Shift to park message has appeared again and the engine will not cut off. First happened in Feb 2020, mileage was 31,143. Took to Dealer and new wiring harness was installed. Had to take back to dealer April 2020 for same problem; shifter assembly was replaced at that time. Shift to park message came back on August 2023. Took back to Dealer and shifter harness replaced again and jumper harness was installed. Mileage was 52,993. Shift to park message has once again appeared, December 2025. Having to put car in park and push engine on/off button numerous times before engine will finally shut off.....sometimes having to unhook battery in order to kill the engine. This will be the fourth time we have had the same recurring issue repaired. My husband read through over half the 352 registered complaints and at least three fourths of them were all about the SHIFT TO PARK problem! As a female, I don't feel safe driving my Acadia not knowing if the engine will cut off or if it's actually in park or if the car will roll. Why can't GM fix this issue!!!!!! They should definitely be held accountable instead of ignoring the complaints!

The contact owns a 2018 GMC Acadia. The contact stated that after shifting to the park(P), there was an audible warning alarm activated, and the message "Shift to Park" was displayed, and the vehicle failed to immediately turn off. After restarting the vehicle and jiggling the gear shifter, the failure was corrected. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer, who diagnosed the vehicle and determined that the gear shifter assembly was faulty and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired, but while picking up her daughter from school, the gear shifter was shifted into park(P), and moments later, the vehicle started rolling backwards. The contact had to activate the parking brake to stop the vehicle. The vehicle was later towed back to the dealer. The cause of the failure was not yet determined. The manufacturer was not notified of the failures. The failure mileage was 120,000.

Shifting to park and vehicle stating the vehicle is not in park, won't let me turn the vehicle off. Transmission going out, brought to many shops letting me know that the transmission is not working properly but won't give an engine light if anything is wrong with vehicle, Wont show on readers what is wrong with vehicle. Electrical, Doors will automatically lock and unlock most times lock and locks me in the vehicle having me have to climb through the windows and having to leave my windows open or locks me out the vehicle and can only get in by climbing in the trunk. Testing has been done and brought to GM to figure out the issue, and they replace the computer in it but still has the problem. I have had shops tell me these are all huge issues that needs to have a recall because my vehicle is not the only GMC Acadia that does all this. How is any of this safe for me and my kids.

"Shift to park" warning error when vehicle is in park. Although I have heard there was a recall, I am not seeing any when I've entered my vin #. The issue has happened multiple times over the last 6 months

May 18, 2025

For the past two weeks, when the Acadia is put into park and the engine is turned off, the warning bell chimes nonstop and a dashboard message appears to put the vehicle into park even though it is already in park. The vehicle needs to be restarted and then put into drive or reverse and then back into park. With irregularity it may or may not work. Sometimes the car must be turned on and off 5 or 6 times before it recognizes that the transmission is truly in park.

All of this has been going on for a while but it's gotten to the point of dangerous. The Shift to Park keeps coming on preventing me from shutting the vehicle off even though it's, in fact, in Park. Then, "Steering Assist Reduced Drive With Care" keeps coming on. This will come on and off. Preventing the engine from heating up like it needs to be. Then the transmission keeps slipping. Was nearly rear-ended on the highway with my child in the car when it decided to start driving really rough and wouldn't allow me to shift to the next gear. This is also an ongoing issue. Another time I was almost hit in the side when this randomly happened on crossing the highway. This is absolutely absurd! I have had MUCH older vehicles without all these issues with many many more miles! I can't count the amount of times this has caused us serious hazards not to mention almost costing me my JOB! Interestingly enough, the same year/make/model has been recalled for the exact same issues yet for whatever reason GMC says MY model "was not affected by the recall". Funny how it's having the EXACT same issues as the ones on the recall list! GMC needs to fix this before they cause people to die! I'm a healthcare worker and this is disgusting!

While I was driving the vehicle started jerking and not changing gears. Several times it almost caused an accident with me and my son in the car. I turned the car on/off and restarted it at the red light, the exact same thing happens. Lucky a GMC dealer ship was near by. I was able to get there still jerking and not changing gears. No warning signs appear during this whole time. No prior issues with the transmission. Once I made it to the dealship then engine like came on. Really now! The dealer checked vehicle and stated the transmission is gone out. I was flabbergasted, almost $10,000 had to be replaced.

Vehicle shudders and jerks while accelerating. This caused a scary incident while driving on ice.

Dec 3, 2024

11/22/24 shift to park issue appeared. Happens constantly. I just bought car on 10/26/2024. I know by looking up shift to park issues there was a recall on 2017 an 2018 cars.

Oct 28, 2024

My wife was taking the children to school when she arrived she placed the car into park and attempted to shut off the vehicle. Once the power button was depressed a beep was heard and the dash said shift to park. She had to turn the are on and off multiple times. I contacted gm and they said there is a defective pin in the shift controls but this issue is not covered by a recall.

The contact owns a 2018 GMC Acadia. The contact stated that the vehicle failed to start and restart daily and required to be jumpstarted. Additionally, while the transmission was shifted into park(P), the "Shift to Park" message was displayed, and the vehicle failed to turn off, causing the battery to become drained. Roadside Assistance was able to jumpstart the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to AutoZone and Firestone, where the battery and alternator were tested; however, the cause of the failure could not be determined. The contact purchased a battery jump starter to jumpstart the vehicle. The vehicle was then taken to Pep Boys, where the alternator, battery, and starter were all tested, and it was determined that the engine switch had failed. Pep Boys advised the contact to take the vehicle to the dealer for a diagnosis. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and advised the contact to file a complaint with the NHTSA Hotline. The failure mileage was 81,737.

Vehicle when being placed into park utilizing the gear shifter begins to say “vehicle not in park” when the vehicle is in park. This happens almost every time the vehicle is placed into park. In order to clear that notification, you have to put the vehicle in drive and park multiple times and hope that the computer recognizes the vehicle in park to unlock the doors and shut the vehicle off.

Aug 1, 2024 Crash

On July 26, 2024, I was driving my 2018 Acadia, with my cruise control set to 48 in a 45 MHP zone. Nearing a bad curve, I sneezed. When this happened, I tapped the brakes to disengage the cruise control, my passengers side tires exited the road and with both hands on the wheel I tried to slowly bring my tires back to the road. However, I was unable to gain control and totaled the vehicle. A witness stated that she heard a loud pop coming from the vehicle before the wreck happened. I later learned from my insurance that the vehicle had a Recall 17V516000 on it and I was never made aware of it. I believe that this was a factor in me not being able to control the vehicle.

Jul 29, 2024

I purchased my 2018 GMC Acadia in 2021. Two days after I purchased the "Shift to Park" error occurred. I contacted the dealer and they said that yes these cars are not recognizing they are indeed in park. After several phone calls back and forth they agreed to repair. Well now 3 years later it began to show the Shift to Park error once again. I looked up to see if they had recalled yet and GM has recalled on SOME vehicles but not sure why others like mine are excluded. I would assume this is a safety issue since the car cannot recognize its in park. I am also not returning to the dealership for repair since I don't believe it was repaired to begin with or the replacement parts are also defective. This seems to be that it will be an ongoing issue and additional costs to me every time this issue comes up.

Jul 9, 2024

I have increasing issues over the last several months, most especially this last week or so, with the SHIFT TO PARK. Every time I place it in park the dashboard says SHIFT TO PARK and bings at me continuously. I try turning the vehicle off and on again numerous times and have to place in reverse and park again a few times before it "clicks" into park and allows me to leave the vehicle. I know my year and model are part of a recall for this issue, there are class action lawsuits about it as well as Lemon Law incidents in numerous states. I have called GMC and received no help, I asked to escalate it to a manager, I was told that would happen within 24-48 hrs yet no manager ever called me. I was left to place a complaint with the Better Business Bureau and a GMC "scripted" representative called me and told me that MY vehicle has not been recalled, yet my model and year has been -- this makes zero sense since MY vehicle is having the recalled issue. I asked again to escalate it, a supervisor is supposed to call me within 2hrs (July 9th at 4:10pm EST) but emphasized that the supervisor will also tell me that GMC will NOT pay for my recall because my VIN has not been recalled. This is how they get away with not paying for the vehicles issues. HOW is my vehicle now NOT part of their recall when it's a known issue and my vehicle IS having this issue?? I drive 2 toddlers around, my grandchildren, and now I have this issue on a vehicle that is barely a few years old and I've only owned for 3 years. Again, my YEAR & MODEL vehicle has known issues with this SHIFT TO PARK and GMC is refusing to remedy it.

Jul 3, 2024

The transmission was failing to shift and jerking me forward in the vehicle. The check engine light came on. I was on the highway going at high speeds. Also, my vehicles Internet connection dropped. I pulled off the highway and turned off my vehicle. While starting my vehicle again and attempting to go into reverse, it would not reverse and it would not drive forward . It would just rev the RPMs. My vehicle has been sitting at the dealer for two weeks. They have not looked at it yet. The police were not called as there was not an accident, thankfully. The warning light came on as the vehicle was failing.

Jul 2, 2024

When I park the car it beeps and displays on the dash to please park the car. Even if I have it on park. Won't allow me to turn it off. Finally turned it off. Turned it back on. And it done it agian..

The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle briefly accelerated and decelerated erratically, after which the vehicle inadvertently lost motive power. The contact was able to pull to the shoulder of the roadway, where the vehicle was able to restart, but the failure persisted, and the vehicle was unable to accelerate above 20 MPH. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic, who diagnosed a failure with the transmission. The contact was informed that the transmission needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 120,000.

SHIFT TO PARK - I originally thought I was turning the car off too quickly. I would put the car in park and hit the button. Then I would get an error message (with Loud beeping) "SHIFT TO PARK." The car will not turn off completely or stop beeping until i turn it back on, and shift into drive and back into park. This last week the problem has escalated and keeps giving me the error message. I have had to leave my car with loud beeping and unlocked. I am driving with a battery charger hoping I will not have to use it. I am shocked this is NOT a recall.

Apr 19, 2024

I have this 2018 Acadia where all of a sudden, at random, the radiator fan runs on high constantly, the AC stops blowing cold air, the thermostat gauge on the dash drops to the C, and the Power Assist is reduced and pops up as a message on the dash as well. Sounds like this may be a common problem among Acadia's. It resets at random and everything appears to be normal for a while. In addition, there are no check engine lights and no codes to check. I have had this happening for over a year and had a dealership service the car but never said mentioned it as a problem. So now that it's out of warranty my and has more frequent occurrences now I''m more aware but now it's out of warranty. It comes up on an Acadia Forum as a common issue. Nov 1, 2023

I am communicating concerns about my 2018 GMC Acadia. I continue to have problems with the Park/shift to park. I have had this problem consistently escalating this year. It was occurring 2 or 3 times per month, now it is occurring weekly. I cannot turn off the vehicle when placed in park. I went to the dealer (FC Kerbeck) in New Jersey, where I was told I had to pay for this problem $515. This seems to be a manufacturer flaw. I think this is a recall part. This is not my responsibility, I did not do anything to my vehicle for this consistent problem. This “shift to park” is dangerous, as it can lock you in your vehicle.

Oct 11, 2023

Power steering reduces and the temperature gage wont work and the fan is extremely loud so it decreases the steering and increases the fan so it can cool down the engine. Others have submitted a recall form for this same problem

Oct 11, 2023

Vehicle shifts hard from 1st and while driving when getting up to speed from 2nd gear and 3rd, etc. Happens every time it's driven.

Aug 1, 2023

After being driving vehicle will not shift into park. When shifter is moved into park position vehicle is not recognizing this and will continue to move. Gear shifter has to be wiggled around for vehicle to finally get into park or at all. Safety concerns - if vehicle is not in park mode vehicle can roll away or continue to move causing damage or injury to persons or property. Online research indicates this is a nationwide problem and there are several lawsuits against gmc concerning this issue. All instances seem to be associated with the Acadia.

Jul 24, 2023

Numerous occurences especially recently of shift vehicle to park when vehicle has been parked, turned off and already shifted into park position. Several occurrences where almost every time within 24 hours I use my cruise control and air conditioner at the same time my check engine light will come on as well as the stability trac indicator which then causes my air conditioner not to work and inability to start the vehicle due to having a check engine light on.

The contact owns a 2018 GMC Acadia. The contact stated that while parking the vehicle, the transmission was shifted into park(P) however, the "Shift to Park" message was displayed after the contact pressed the Auto Start/Stop button. The contact had to depress the brake pedal while pushing the Auto Start/Stop button to turn the vehicle back on and then shift the transmission from drive(D) to Park(P) approximately 3-4 times before the failure was corrected. The dealer was made aware of the failure; however, the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact stated that the dealer had previously replaced the gear shift assembly; however, the failure recurred. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 47,211.

We own a 2018 GMC Acadia Denali. Upon shifting the vehicle into park, we cannot turn off the engine. The vehicle gives us a "Shift to Park" message on the instrument panel. As a result, we are unable to shut off our engine and, to avoid the battery running out, are forced to attempt to move the shift lever in and out of "Park" to get the car to detect that the shift lever is in fact in ‘Park.’”

Mar 28, 2023

I shift the car into park but the vehicle tells me the car is not in park and won't shut off. GM charged me $656.00 to replace the switch and harness.

Mar 7, 2023

Erroneous error code on heads up that car not in park. Appears to be in park, error code can be reset by activation/deactivation of trigger switch on shift lever. Provides unclear message if car is or is not in park, vagueness makes me question vehicle park status overall. Issue was very intermittent in 2022, frequency of erroneous error code increasing now happens 1 out of 5 times when shifting to park.

Mar 3, 2023

2018 Acadia will display “Shift to park” warning along with an audible warning when the vehicle is shut off. This happens even though the PRNDL display is in the “Park” position each time. If I try to exit the vehicle, the audible warning continues (apparently indefinitely). This began at an odometer of about 59,200. Initially, the situation could be corrected by restarting the car and shifting in and out of Park or depressing the shift knob several times. Within a couple of hundred miles, it became consistent and eventually could not be corrected as described above. Unfortunately, this is not covered under warranty. I began driving for a few months without the shift knob, simply depressing the plunger on the shift rod coming up from the transmission. Doing this, the warning rarely occurs and, if it does, it’s easily corrected with one or two presses of the plunger. Some modifications of the shift knob have allowed the knob to be used with results similar to driving without the knob. I hope there will be a software update (deployed over OnStar) to use the PRNDL information and eliminate this failed system.

Shift to park issue. Vehicle appears to be in park but message appears. You have to continuously wiggle shifter and shut car off and off until it registers it is in park. I have no way of knowing if vehicle is truly in park or not. For safety reasons I cannot park in an incline due to concerns the vehicle will roll backwards. Several TBS bulletins have been issued by GMC on this known issue and they deny any responsibility of fixing the situation with a recall. The NHTSA needs to step in and investigate and require GMC to remedy this dangerous defect

CAR DOES NOT GO INTO PARK AND WILL NOT SHUT OFF. says shift to park when this happens the car does not shut off correctly and must be restarted and jiggle shifter to turn off. this seems to be a well known problem and is on many years of Acadia

Jan 18, 2023

When I put the car in park, I get the message "Shift to Park". It does not do it every time but it is happening more and more. I have to wiggle the gearshift or restart the car and shift to neutral to try it again. I am wondering about the safety issue and will the vehicle roll if I am not able to get the message to go away? I have researched this and it is happening on a lot of vehicles.

The contact owns a 2018 GMC Acadia. The contact stated that on three separate occasions while driving at undisclosed speeds, the gears inadvertently shifted from second gear to third gear and then to neutral. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer on three separate occasions where the failure could not be duplicated. The vehicle was then taken back a fourth time where it was diagnosed and determined that the transmission needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 87,000.

I purchased vehicle in 2018 and by 2019 it started showing a message that said error Shift need to park but I was parked and gear in parking mode .I reported to dealer but said they couldn't help me since my warranty was over due to my job I drive alot so I was over the mileage. So they itbwouldnt be covered since then it goes off and on same message and now I can't get off car until it goes off because I'm afraid to let go of brake if the parking gear don't work. I reported to dealer in time to get assistance but they just brushed it off blamed me for the mileage Maybe causing it but I see here I'm not the only one complaining about message "Shift".

When I park my 2018 GMC Acadia, my infotainment screen states the following warning: "SWIFT TO PARK", but I have already put my car in PARK. This warning started appearing around 28,000 miles; my currect mileage on my Acadia is 28,379 miles. I have checked if there are any recalls on this issue, but found none, but this issue started appearing in the 2017 models

Car won’t go into park though I’ve shifted to park. Car starts beeping and displays “SHIFT TO PARK!” even though the vehicle is shut off and gear shifter is in park position. I took to dealership, they stated, “gmc NEEDS to recall this, we have to repair every single GMC Acadia we sell with unfortunately the same defective parts” it’s a $500 fix. I just use my parking break everytime I park now.

Jul 18, 2022

The GMC Acadia displays a "shift to park" error. The truck is in park (or appears to be) and the truck says it is not and will not allow it to be turned off. This is a common error with the truck and GMC is refusing to take responsibility and this can cause a fatal error if the truck is not in park and rolls away.

The shift leaver when putting in park has an error code that the vehicle is not in park when it shows it is. The dealer said this is a common problem and replaced the shift leavers wire harness for 600.00. When this happens there is no way to turn the veh power off and it rolls a little before it engages.

I own a 2018 GMC Acadia and sometimes after shifting the vehicle into park and turning it off I get a message that says "shift into park" even though it is in park. This happens intermittently and but it is a bit of a pain when it does. I have to either jiggle the shifter or start the car up again and shift into park again. I just called the GMC dealer where I purchase the vehicle new, Mark Porter in Pomeroy, OH, and they said there is a bulletin from GMC on it and the fix is to replace the shifter harness which would cost me around $300. And they said if that doesn't fix the problem the next step would be to replace the shifter which would cost me another $500. In looking online it seems to be happening to a lot of 2018 GMC Acadia's and am wondering why there is no recall on it.

Shift to park error when turning off vehicle, which would not allow the engine to shut off. Had to have shifter and harness replaced.

Jun 8, 2022

In 2019 my GMC Acadia had the “shift to park” issue in which my vehicle would not shut off and I would have to repeatedly start and shift the gear shift before it would shut off. The problem was “fixed” at the dealership in June 2019. In May 2022, the “shift to park” issue started again. At the dealership now and was informed that since the vehicle is out of warranty, I would be responsible for repairs this time. This is a safety issue that GMC is well aware and should not happen to begin with let alone after repairs. In no way am I going to be held responsible for repairs that obviously were done with either defective parts or parts that were limited to only 3 years without my knowledge. If I knew I would have to do the same repair in 3 years and I would be responsible for it, I would have argued for better parts to begin with. GMC needs to know that this is a real problem that needs to be dealt with immediately.

“Action required Shift to Park” indicator comes on when trying to park vehicle. Vehicle does not recognize that it is in park. Vehicle will continue to move a short distance before recognizing that it has been placed in park and then comes to an abrupt stop. Vehicle sometimes has to be shifted between drive and park several times before it will recognize that it is in park.

The contact was then informed that only one of the rotors needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired however, the failure persisted. The contact also stated that upon attempting to park the vehicle, the shift to park warning message would illuminate on the instrument panel. WHEN I PUT MY CAR IN PARK AND TURN OFF IT WILL RANDOMLY SAY "SHIFT TO PARK" IT STARTED DOING THIS IN AUG OR SEPT 2019 THE CAR WAS UNDER WARRANTY AND I BROUGHT IT TO A DEALER TO "FIX". FAST FORWARD APRIL 2021 IT STARTED TO SAY SHIFT TO PARK AGAIN AND CAR IS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY. CALLED DIFFERENT DEALERS EVEN THE ONE I BROUGHT THE CAR TO FIX PROBLEM (THAT WAS A JOKE), THEY KNOW ITS A PROBLEM AND SAYING SINCE THAT PART GOT FIXED IN 2019 WITH A BAD PART AND NOW THERE IS A A NEWER FIX THAT SHOULD WORK BETTER, BUT I WILL HAVE TO PAY FOR DIAGNOSTIC TEST AND PART AGAIN. AGAIN THEY KNOW IT IS A PROBLEM WITH THESE CARS AND IT NEEDS TO BE RECALLED. WHEN I PRESSED THE START/STOP BUTTON, THE BUTTON'S AMBER WARNING LIGHT CAME ON, AN AUDIBLE WARNING BEGAN SOUNDING AND ALL INSTRUMENT LIGHTS STAYED ON. WHEN I LOOKED AT THE DRIVER'S DISPLAY, IT STATED, "SHIFT TO PARK". (THE SHIFT LEVER WAS ALREADY IN THE PARK POSITION. I COULD NOT SHUT THE VEHICLE DOWN AND COULD NOT LEAVE THE VEHICLE IN THAT CONDITION. I CONTINUED TO MOVE THE SHIFT LEVER FROM DRIVE TO PARK AND AFTER 8-10 SHIFTS, THE VEHICLE FINALLY RECOGNIZED THAT IT WAS IN PARK. THEN, THE START/STOP BUTTON FUNCTIONED CORRECTLY. UPON INVESTIGATION, I FOUND THAT THIS IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM WITH 2017-2018 GMC ACADIAS (THERE IS EVEN A CLASS ACTION LAW SUIT PENDING). SOME OWNERS EVEN REPORT THEIR VEHICLES ROLLING WHEN IN THIS CONDITION. AS OF THIS DATE (5/19/2020) GM HAS NOT RECOGNIZED THIS AS A DESIGN PROBLEM AND HAS NOT ISSUED A RECALL. THIS IS OBVIOUSLY A DESIGN ISSUE SINCE IT HAPPENS WITHIN AND OUT OF THE 3YR/36,000 MILE WARRANTY. IF IT HAPPENS AT 36,500 MILES THE VEHICLE OWNER IS OUT OF LUCK! WARNING MESSAGE SAYS "SHIFT TO PARK". MESSAGE DOES NOT GO OFF UNTIL YOU TURN CAR ON AND OFF SEVERAL TIMES; PUTTING THE CAR IN REVERSE, THEN DRIVE; THEN SHIFTING BETWEEN GEARS BACK AND FORTH. MAY TAKE 20 MINUTES TO GET THE MESSAGE LIGHT TO GO OFF. GMC HAS TRIED REPLACING GEAR SHIFT, PART OF GEAR TOP. AFTER 5 ATTEMPTS IN TRYING TO FIX THE ISSUE, MY CAR SITS AT THE DEALERSHIP FOR AN ADDITONAL 4 WEEKS WAITING FOR A HARNESS FIX (WHICH THERE IS NO PART FOR). THE CAR ALWAYS ROLLS BACKWARDS WHEN THE MESSAGE FINALLY GOES OFF. THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE. IS THE CAR REALLY IN PARK?

1 OUT OF 2 TIMES A DAY WHEN I PUT THE VEHICLE IN PARK IT GIVES ME A WARNING TO SHIFT TO PARK ON THE ELECTRONIC DASH. EVEN THOUGH THE SHIFT IS SITTING IN THE PARK POSITION. SO I HAVE TO RESTART THE CAR, TAKE IT OUT OF PARK AND SHIFT BACK TO PARK MULTIPLE TIMES BEFORE THE WARNING GOES AWAY. THIS WARNING PREVENTS THE CAR FROM COMPLETELY SHUTTING DOWN

VEHICLE ENGINE WAS RUNNING WHEN I CAME TO A STOP AND SHIFTED TO PARK. I RECEIVED AN ERROR INDICATING "ACTION REQUIRED - SHIFT TO PARK." I DID NOT LET OFF OF THE BRAKE PEDAL BECAUSE I WAS UNSURE IF THE VEHICLE HAD ACTUALLY SHIFTED INTO PARK. WITH THE BRAKE PEDAL APPLIED, I ATTEMPTED TO SHIFT TO NEUTRAL AND DRIVE, THEN SHIFT BACK TO PARK, AND RECEIVED THE SAME ERROR. WITH MY FOOT STILL ON THE BRAKE, I TURNED THE IGNITION OFF, BUT THE ELECTRONICS WOULD NOT POWER OFF AND THE ERROR CONTINUOUSLY DISPLAYED ON THE DASH. I STARTED THE ENGINE AND REPEATED THIS PROCESS MULTIPLE TIMES WITH THE BRAKE PRESSED BEFORE CHANGING GEARS AGAIN, SHIFTING INTO PARK, THEN APPLYING THE ELECTRONIC PARKING BRAKE WITH THE ENGINE RUNNING. IT WAS ONLY THEN THAT I TURNED MY ENGINE OFF AGAIN, AND THE ERROR FINALLY NO LONGER DISPLAYED. SINCE THE ERROR WAS NO LONGER DISPLAYING, I COULD ONLY HOPE THAT MY VEHICLE WAS ACTUALLY IN PARK, BUT FELT REASSURED THAT THE ELECTRONIC PARKING BRAKE WAS ENGAGED. PLEASE INVESTIGATE THIS SAFETY CONCERN THAT SEEMS TO BE AFFECTING MANY OF THESE VEHICLES.

AFTER SHIFTING MY ACADIA INTO PARK AND SHUTTING IT OFF, "SHIFT TO PARK" WARNING COMES US SOUNDING AN ALARM THAT WON'T GO OFF UNLESS I START THE CAR AND SHIFT IN AND OUT OF PARK SEVERAL TIMES. IT GETS HARDER TO GET THE WARNING TO GO AWAY EACH TIME I DRIVE IT. I HAVE HAD TO RESULT TO NOT DRIVING IT TO AVOID THE BATTERY DRAINING OR HAVING TO UNHOOK THE BATTERY. THE CAR ONLY HAS 19000 MILES SO THE DEALER IS WILLING TO REPLACE IT BUT THERE ARE NO PARTS AVAILABLE. ALSO, OTHERS HAVE MENTIONED THAT THE PROBLEM RETURNS EVEN AFTER THE REPAIR.

WE HAVE AN ISSUE WITH THE GEAR SHIFT, SINCE THREE WEEKS AGO WE CAN'T TURN OFF THE ENGINE AS A NORMAL PROCEDURE BECAUSE THE SENSOR OF THE GEAR SHIFT DOESN'T DETECT THE SHIFT IS IN 'P' PARKING, WE CONTINUALLY RECEIVE A MESSAGE FROM THE SCREEN. 'PUT YOUR SHIFT IN 'P', BUT IN THIS PRECISE MOMENT THE SHIFT WAS IN PARKING MODE, SO WE CAN'T TURN OF THE ENGINE. WE RECEIVE A NOTIFICATION FROM THE MECHANICAL WORKSHOP THAT THE ISSUE COULD BE THE ELECTRICAL HARNESS, BUT THEY DOESN'T GIVE US WHEN COULD BE CHANGED, SO RIGHT NOW WE HAVE MORE THAN TWO WEEKS WITHOUT USE THE VEHICLE, THEY DO NOT RECEIVE A OFFICIAL FEEDBACK FOR THE PLANT YET.

SHIFT TO PARK NOTICE. WHEN ATTEMPTING TO TURN OFF VEHICLE AND SHIFTED INTO PARK, VEHICLE WILL GIVE A WARNING THAT VEHICLE IS NOT IN PARK. AT THIS POINT I HAVE NO IDEA IF THE VEHICLE IS IN PARK OR NOT. NOT SURE IF I AM JUST RECEIVING A FAULTY NOTICE OR IS THE VEHICLE NOT IN PARK AND COULD ROLL CAUSING INJURY! THIS IS NOT A SAFE VEHICLE. GMC UNABLE TO REPAIR DUE TO NOT HAVING THE PART AVAILABLE. THIS MAY HAPPEN FOR TWO OR THREE TIMES. IT HAS HAPPENED THAT I HAVE HAD TO TURN MY CAR OFF AND BACK ON UP TO SEVEN TIMES BEFORE IT REGISTERED AS IN PARK.

WHEN TURNING OFF THE VEHICLE, A WARNING MESSAGE COMES ON SAYING "SHIFT TO PARK" EVEN THOUGH THE VEHICLE IS IN PARK. THE SHIFTER READS PARK AND SO DOES THE DASH. VEHICLE IS UNABLE TO BE COMPLETELY TURNED OFF OR LOCKED WITH THIS MESSAGE APPEARING. IT REQUIRES TURNING VEHICLE ON AND OFF, MOVING SHIFTER IN AND OUT OF PARK, JIGGLING SHIFTER BUTTONS, ETC. THIS CAN TAKE ONE TRY OR MULTIPLE TRIES. I JUST HAD THIS FIXED BY THE DEALERSHIP (REPLACED SHIFT CONTROL) AND WAS DISAPPOINTED TO FIND THAT THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE, AFFECTING MANY VEHICLES AND IT IS STILL THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE VEHICLE OWNER TO PAY FOR THE EXPENSE IF THE BUMPER TO BUMPER WARRANTY IS EXPIRED. THE SHIFTER RUNS THE POWER TRAIN! WHY IS THIS NOT UNDER THE POWER TRAIN WARRANTY AND WHY IS THIS NOT A RECALL? NOW, IN RESEARCHING, I'M SEEING THAT MANY HAVE HAD IT HAPPEN AGAIN AFTER THE ISSUE HAS BEEN "FIXED". DEALER TECH NOTES TSB 19-NA-206 IN HIS REPORT.

WHEN SHUTTING THE ACADIA OFF IT PROMPTS A MESSAGE SAYING MUST BE IN PARK. IT IS IN PARK BUT COMPUTER IS NOT RECOGNIZING IT. THIS FORCES YOU TO LEAVE CAR RUNNING. IF YOU DONT THEN YOUR BATTERY WILL GO DEAD. WHEN SPEAKING TO LOCAL DEALERSHIP THEY ARE AWARE OF ISSUE BUT DONT KNOW ANYTHING TO RESOLVE IT. CUSTOMERS SHOULDN'T HAVE TO PAY FOR THIS SINCE IT'S A SAFETY ISSUE.

WHEN PUTTING MY VEHICLE IN PARK AND PRESSING THE ENGINE OFF BUTTON, I GET AN ERROR MESSAGE "SHIFT TO PARK", AND THE VEHICLE BEEPS AND WILL NOT TURN OFF THE ELECTRICAL, BUT THE CAR IS ALREADY IN PARK. I AM UNABLE TO TURN OFF MY VEHICLE COMPLETELY. I HAVE TO PRESS START AGAIN AND PUT THE CAR IN REVERSE AND BACK TO PARK, SOMETIMES MULTIPLE TIMES IN ORDER FOR THE VEHICLE TO REGISTER THAT IS IN PARK AND ALLOW ME TO SHUT OFF MY VEHICLE COMPLETELY. I AM CONCERNED THAT THE VEHICLE MAY NOT ACTUALLY BE IN PARK WHEN I PUT IT IN PARK. I DO NOT WANT IT TO ROLL DOWN A HILL AND I WANT TO BE ABLE TO TURN OFF MY CAR WITHOUT BEING CONCERNED IT WILL CONTINUE TO RUN ELECTRICAL AND KILL MY BATTERY.

FIRST OF ALL, THIS ISSUE IS BEING REPORTED BY HUNDREDS IF NOT THOUSANDS OF GMC ACADIA OWNERS. I RECEIVED THE "SHIFT TO PARK" MESSAGE MONTHS AGO WHILE IT STILL WAS UNDER THE 36,000 MILE WARRANTY AND THEN IT WENT AWAY UNTIL LAST WEEK. I GOT A "SHIFT TO PARK" MESSAGE WHEN I TURNED THE VEHICLE OFF EVEN THOUGH THE GEAR WAS IN THE SHIFT POSITION. THIS CAUSED A NUMBER OF SECONDARY ISSUES THAT ARE NOW COMPROMISING THE SAFETY OF THE VEHICLE. ONCE I AM ABLE TO TURN THE VEHICLE BACK ON AFTER IT DRAINS OR KILLS THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM, I AM GETTING A NUMBER OF ISSUES. HOWEVER, THE ONES THAT CONCERN ME THE MOST ARE THE ROLLS EVEN THOUGH THE VEHICLE IS IN PARK, LOSS OF POWER STEERING, LOSS OF AWD, LOSS OF STABILITRACK, LOSS OF ABS, BRAKING SYSTEM ERROR AND POWER SURGES. THESE ARE THE MOST CONCERNING BUT I AM ALSO HAVING ISSUES WITH MY DASHBOARD, NAVIGATION, AND VEHICLE INSTRUMENTS. I CALLED THE GMC DEALER WHO HAD NO PROBLEM TELLING ME THE GEAR SHIFT BOX NEEDED TO BE REPLACED, NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY AND THEY HAD NO IDEA WHEN THEY CAN FIX IT BECAUSE IT WAS ON A NATIONAL BACK ORDER. WHAT REALLY DISTURBS ME IS THAT THERE ARE LAWSUITS GOING ON DEALING WITH THIS PARTICULAR ISSUE AND THAT LITERALLY IT COMPROMISES THE SAFETY OF THE VEHICLE AND NEITHER GMC OR THE NHTSA HAVE ACTED ON THIS. I WAS DRIVING TODAY AND REALIZED HOW DANGEROUS IT WAS TO OPERATE A VEHICLE UNDER THESE CONDITIONS. YOU CAN LITERALLY BE DRIVING AND THE VEHICLE HAVE A POWER SURGE WHICH MAKES YOU LOSE CONTROL CAUSED BY A MALFUNCTION IN THE GEAR SHIFT BOX. I AM ASSUMING THAT NO ONE WILL DUE ANYTHING UNTIL SEVERAL PEOPLE ARE EITHER KILLED OR SERIOUSLY INJURED. THIS ISSUES HAS BEEN REPORTED ON MODELS GOING BACK TO 2017 AND HERE WE ARE IN 2019 AND STILL HAVE THE ISSUE. PLEASE HELP US, THIS ISSUE IS HAPPENING TO THOUSANDS OF DRIVERS AND IT IS NOT BEING ADDRESSED BY THE NHTSA OR GMC. PLEASE RECALL OR STOP SELLING

2018 GMC ACADIA VIN [XXX] MY CAR HAS 41,000 MILES. WHEN I PARK AND TRY TO SHUT MY CAR OFF A MESSAGE POPS UP THAT SAYS "SHIFT TO PARK". IT WILL NOT ALLOW ME TO SHUT MY CAR OFF BECAUSE IT DOES NOT IDENTIFY THAT IT IS IN FACT IN PARK. TODAY IT TOOK ME 15 MINUTES OF TURNING MY CAR OFF AND ON AND SHIFTING IN AND OUT OF PARK TO GET IT OFF. TWO DAYS AGO MY CAR STARTED TO ROLL BACKWARDS AS IF IT WERE IN NEUTRAL. GMC ACADIA WILL NOT REGISTER WHEN THE DRIVER SHIFTS THE GEARS INTO PARK. AN ERROR MESSAGE 'SHIFT TO PARK' IS SHOWN ON THE DASHBOARD EVEN THOUGH THE GEAR IS IN PARK. THE DRIVER IS UNABLE TO TURN THE CAR OFF BECAUSE OF THE ERROR MESSAGE. IT TAKES SEVERAL TURNS OF SWITCHING THE CAR ON AND OFF AND FLIPPING THROUGH ALL THE GEARS IN ORDER FOR THE MESSAGE TO DISAPPEAR SO THAT THE CAR TURNS OFF. THE CAR WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER ON JUNE 26 FOR REPAIRS AND HAS BEEN SITTING THERE OVER A MONTH BECAUSE THEY ARE UNABLE TO CORRECT THE ISSUE.

WHILE STATIONARY, INSTRUMENTS SHOW A SHIFT TO PARK MESSAGE, EVEN THOUGH THE CAR WAS IN PARK. ACADIA WOULD NOT FULLY TURN OFF UNTIL THIS MESSAGE IS NOT PRESENT. AFTER PARKING, MY ACADIA WOULD NOT SHUT OFF COMPLETELY. A MESSAGE CAME ON THE DASH, 'ACTION REQUIRED, SHIFT TO PARK'. A CONSTANT CHIME WAS SOUNDING ALSO. I RESTARTED THE CAR, SHIFTED OUT OF PARK, BACK INTO PARK, TRIED TO SHUT OFF AGAIN...SAME THING....4X'S!!! I WENT RIGHT OVER TO THE DEALER WHERE I BOUGHT MY CAR AND EXPLAINED WHAT WAS HAPPENING ( COULDN'T SHUT OFF THERE EITHER). SERVICE MANAGER KNEW IMMEDIATELY WHAT THE PROBLEM WAS BUT SAYS THE PART (GEAR SHIFT) IS ON BACKORDER AND HAS NO IDEA FOR HOW LONG!!! WHAT??? WHY ISN'T THIS A RECALL? I'VE READ QUITE A FEW OF THIS SAME COMPLAINT SO I CAN'T UNDERSTAND HOW THIS ISN'T A RECALL ALREADY ESPECIALLY IF THE GEAR SHIFT REQUIRED TO FIX THE PROBLEM IS ON BACKORDER, IT'S OBVIOUSLY A BIGGER ISSUE THEN 1 OR 2. SO FOR NOW , I JUST HAVE TO WAIT AND 'KEEP PLAYING WITH THE GEAR SHIFTER UNTIL IT GOES OFF' AS I WAS TOLD UNTIL THE PART COMES IN! HOW CRAZY IS THIS

1* PURCHASED MARCH 2018 (ACADIA DENALI) SINCE AUGUST 2018 IN MOTION WHEN I ACCELERATE IT SOUNDS LIKE A LOUD LAWNMOWER & CRACKLING SOUND IN REAR MUFFLER AREA. TOOK IT CHEVY PLACE IN GLENPOOL, OK. THEY COULDN'T FIND ANYTHING. 2* ON 2 OCCASSIONS, IN MOTION, THE CAR ACCELERATED WITH A LOUD NOISE & AS IF IT WERE GETTING POWER & NOT MOVING THEN JERKS & SPEEDS UP ABOUT 15MPH FASTER & I COULDN'T STOP IT. I KEPT SLAMMING ON MY BREAKS, BUT THE BREAK WOULD ONLY GO IN SO FAR. I WAS FRIGHTENED WITH MY 2 YOUNG BOYS IN CAR SCREAMING. IT'S LIKE RIDING A HORSE & IT TAKES OFF & YOU CAN'T CONTROL IT. 3* ON ABOUT 8 OR 9 OCCASSIONS STATIONARY I GET OUT OF MY CAR & IT MAKES A REALLY LOUD ANNOYING SOUND LIKE A MACHINE/ROBOT POWERING DOWN. MY KIDS ALWAYS SAY, IT'S GOING TO BLOW UP 4* THE MOST ANNOYING, FOR PAST MONTH...STATIONARY, EVERY SINGLE DAY & TIME I TURN MY IGNITION OFF. IT HAS LOUD BEEPING SOUND & CHECK REAR SEAT FLASHING ON SCREEN THEN SHIFT INTO PARK FLASHES. THIS OCCURS EVERY SINGLE TIME I TURN MY CAR OFF. SOMETIMES I HAVE TO JUST LET IT GO ON ALL DAY BECAUSE I CAN'T GET IT STOP. I TURN CAR ON & OFF SHIFT BACK & FORTH & IT STILL WILL NOT GO OFF. SOMETIMES IT DOES AFTER LONG PERIODS OF TIME. I DON'T HAVE TIME TO STRUGGLE WITH GETTING A CAR INTO PARK EVERY SINGLE TIME I TURN MY IGNITION OFF. I HAVE TO BEAT IT FORWARD HARD WITH MY HAND TO THE POINT MY WRIST IS BRUISED. NOW I HAVE TO USE MY FOOT TO KICK GEAR SHIFTER INTO PARK. I'M AFRAID T'S GOING TO ROLL OUT & OR DOWN AND HIT SOMETHING, SOMEONE OR EVEN ONE OF MY CHILDREN. WHICH WOULD NOT BE GOOD. I'VE SEEN SEVERAL OF SAME COMPLAINTS. THIS REALLY NEEDS TO BE INVESTIGATED & RECALLED ASAP. MY ELDERLY MOTHER HAD TO CALL MY BROTHER TO ANOTHER PART OF TOWN TO BEAT THE GEAR SHIFT INTO PARK. THIS CAR WAS BRAND NEW & I SHOULDN'T HAVE ANY OF THE ABOVE MENTIONED ISSUES. IT'S FRUSTRATING THINKING GMC WAS TOP OF THE LINE & IT'S NOT.

I FINANCED THIS VEHICLE IN MAY 2018 THROUGH A GMC DEALERSHIP. IT IS JANUARY 2019 I STARTED GETTING ALERTS ONCE I PUT MY CAR IN PARK AND TURNED THE MOTOR OFF. THE WARNING ALERTS STATED ON THE DASHBOARD "ACTION REQUIRED -SHIFT TO PARK-" EVEN THOUGH IT IS IS PARK. THE ALERT IS LOUD AND WILL NOT GO OFF. I HAVE TO START THE CAR AGAIN AND ADJUST THE GEAR SHIFT A FEW TIMES BY MOVING IT TO DRIVE, NEUTRAL OR REVERSE BEFORE THE VEHICLE RECOGNIZES THAT IT IS IS PARK AND THE ALERT LEAVES THE SCREEN AND THE SOUND GOES OFF. SOMETIMES IT TAKES A FEW MOMENTS OF MOVING THE GEAR SHIFT BEFORE I AM ABLE TO LEAVE THE VEHICLE. THIS IS HIGHLY INCONVENIENT ESPECIALLY WHEN YOU ARE IN A HURRY TO LEAVE THE VEHICLE. I AM EXTREMELY FRUSTRATED BECAUSE THIS IS A BRAND NEW VEHICLE. I CONTACTED THE DEALER AND THEY IMMEDIATELY ASKED ME WAS THE CAR STILL UNDER 36,000 MILES. THANKFULLY IT IS. I ENTERED MY VIN NUMBER IN THIS DATABASE AND NO RECALLS HAVE CAME UP FOR MY MODEL ODDLY. BUT FOR A DIFFERENT MODEL OF THE GMA ACADIA 2018 THERE IS 2 RECALLS. IRONICALLY, THE SAME COMPLAINT HAS BEEN REPORTED.

WHEN I PUT THE IN PARK, IT DOES NOT RECOGNIZE THAT THE VEHICLE IS ALREADY ENGAGED. THE CONSOLE DISPLAYS TELLS ME TO PUT VEHICLE IN PARK AND BEEPS. I HAVE TO KEEP MOVING THE GEAR SHIFT FROM REVERSE TO NEUTRAL TO PARK SEVERAL TIMES BEFORE IT RECOGNIZES THE VEHICLE IN ENGAGED IN PARK. THIS HAS BEEN HAPPENING ABOUT 8 MONTHS OR SO. I HAVE MENTIONED IT TO THE DEALER AND THEY TELL ME THEIR ARE NO RECALLS FOR MY PROBLEM, NOT EVEN RECOGNIZING MY PROBLEM WITH THE VEHICLE.

Jul 7, 2018

WHEN YOU PUT THE SHIFTER IN PARK IT DOES NOT RECOGNIZE & CABIN ALARM STARTS TO BEEP. THE VEHICLE WILL ALSO LEAVE ITS HEADLIGHTS ON OVERNIGHT & DRAIN YOUR BATTERY. TOOK TO DEALER AND THEY COULDN'T DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT. IT'S BEEN 2 WEEKS AND NO LETTER OF RESOLUTION FROM MANUFACTURER AS THE DEALER SAID.
