2024 GMC CANYON Exterior Lighting Problems

The dealer did not fix the recall item on my truck as posted here. The dealers service department confirmed with me on multiple occasions that the recall was not fixed as annotated, but since the dealer was paid for the recall (because it was posted to the system) I am still on a waiting list for them to coordinate how to do the recall work (that was already paid for, what?). I would just like the recall work to be completed on my truck and the notification corrected on your database that the work was not done when input, editing to correct the date of service

While addressing the Headlamp Flicker recall N242468880 another problem was caused. The Drivers side headlamp is always on high-beam There is no way to turn it off. I have had two incidents where oncoming traffic has crossed the double yellow line. The dealer states that the entire headlight mist be replaced and it is on backorder with no expected date of availability. This 2024 GMC Canyon is blinding oncoming traffic and is a risk to myself, my passengers, and oncoming traffic. I have a case open with GM and it has accomplished nothing. GM case number 9-14098737984

When the right turn signal cancels after completing a right turn, the left turn signal activates, flashing 3 times. This appears to be the result of a defective design with the turn signal level. The dealer has acknowledged the problem and has stated that there is a bulletin from GM from several months ago which does not provide any resolution to the issue. This is a safety issue since the turn signals are not operating correctly, which could confuse other drivers.

When the right hand turn signal is cancelled following a right hand turn, the left turn signal flashes to indicate a lane change. This would falsely indicate intention of changing lanes.

Where to begin... As I bought my first truck, literally within 10 days after buying the GMC Canyon 2024, the car is shaking uncontrollably on the highway... 35 MPH max speed, extremely dangerous situation, 8 AM on a busy Watterson Expressway in Louisville, KY. I was so scared I was going to crash and potentially get hurt or worse. They told me "they had never seen this happen to a Canyon before" which is obviously a lie. The car was serviced for 21 calendar days, and now my lights are spotty and I can't drive my car at night. I got this truck [XXX]. There was no communication on when it was to be ready. There are issues with a lot of minor things as well like the navigation systems. I have logged every call with the Dealership, Courtesy Buick GMC in Louisville as well as summarized every point of contact, and with very spotty responses and the manager, Frank, wont respond to my emails and was extremely uncooperative as I asked to trade it in as I was genuinely concerned about my safety and he told me absolutely not. Turn signal not working properly and GM has not issued a solution to dealerships. Issue: When you use your turn signal to change lanes or turn onto a new street, the turn signal will flash to let drivers know. However, when you turn off your turn signal manually or the truck turns off the turn signal automatically when you turn the corner, instead of the turn signal stopping, it starts flash in the opposite direction by itself and eventually stops. This can be confusing for drivers and could result in an accident if someone thinks you are signalling and then go in a different direction.

i have had this truck 3 months and already had software problems and now I had to drive to Hammond LA after dark and the headlights were blinking, going up and down. I was passing an 18 wheeler and the light beam went up and i almost went under the 18 wheeler. God was with me for sure.. i have not received any info on the recall and went by the dealership where I bought it and they sAid I would have to wait until I get a notice in the mail. so now I cannot drive at night and I need to. what is a person suppose to do?

When I make a right turn, after completing it, my left turn signal flashes three times. This is very confusing to other drivers around me and I’m concerned could cause an accident. This has been occurring since I purchased the vehicle. The dealership advised that the headlight flicker repair would likely fix it, but it did not.

After investigating the failure, the contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V673000 (Exterior Lighting); but the vehicle had already been repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 5,000.

The contact owns a 2024 GMC Canyon. The contact stated that while driving at undisclosed speeds, the headlights were flickering. There were no warning lights illuminated. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V673000 (Exterior Lighting); however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The local dealer was contacted. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The failure mileage was approximately 100. Parts distribution disconnect.

The turn signal is activating in the opposite direction. After completing a 90 degree right hand turn, when the turn signal deactivates it will turn on the left turn indicator for 3-5 seconds. This only happens when making right hand turns and I have been able to replicate it on multiple occasions. My concern is that other people will see the indicator and assume that I intend to change lanes when my intention is to continue straightforward. This could cause someone to move in front of me or turn into my lane of travel. I just purchased the vehicle a week and a half ago. I plan on making an appointment with the dealership within the next week to have the issue evaluated. This was first noticed about 1 week after taking ownership. I purchased the vehicle on September 13, and noticed the issue on September 20.

The vehicle, since it's purchase, has a persistant flickering occuring with the entire headlight when the main headlights are on. The problem doesn't seem to be an issue when the DRLs are only being used. The vehicle was taken back to the dealership to be looked at but when they discussed the issue with the GM even they couldn't figure it out. This can pose a serious safety issue if the lights go out all together at night on a dark roadway.

Headlights flicker every few minutes when on. Can be distracting to driver and other cars on the road at night. Seems to be an issue for several people with these new 2024 trucks but GM has no fix yet.

Headlights flicker about once every minute. it gives the impression that i am using my brights for oncoming traffic and has caused other drivers to "flash" their brights at me and i get flashed after passing other vehicles. I am concerned that at one point the "flicker" will just shut off and leave me totally in the dark driving country roads. i drive mostly on rural highways. it would be impossible to drive without lights. Also the flicker is causing other drivers to potentially "road rage". I took this to the dealer last month. GM has not come up with a fix and has told the dealer not to do anything at this time. problem has occurred since deliver in early June

Headlights flicker constantly. While being extremely distracting and unsafe while driving, it also causes other driver to think I’m flashing them. This leads them to flashing their high beams at me when oncoming and pulling over to let me pass when in front of me. Also, after I complete a right turn, my left signal flashes 3-4 times. I brought it to the dealership and they said they suspect a “software glitch” but that GM hasn’t determined a cause or solution yet. It appears to affect models built in May/June 2024 and on. I was also told that the display screen in the truck can be/may become affected, which is the only way to control the lights in the vehicle. They could not provide me with a loaner or replacement and said to keep driving the vehicle as-is until GM can come up with a fix, despite repeatedly agreeing with how unsafe it is. I have filed a report with GM as well. I was told to “make noise and maybe they’d get it fixed sooner.”

Headlights flickering while driving. And it is quite noticable and distracting to other drivers. I feel this could cause accidents. I have been flashed by upcoming drivers due to them thinking I turned on my bright lights. And this is constant at 2 to 5 minute intervals. The dealer can't fix cause GMC doesn't know how to fix. And neither GMC or the dealer is going to contact me when there is a fix. The dealer said call every 2 weeks and they will check on line for any updates for the problem.

Headlights intermittently flicker when on sitting still or driving. This happens from a couple of times a minute, up to 5 or 8 times a minute. Other drivers are flashing their high beams at me because of this flaw. I can see a road rage incident occurring because of the issue.

The Headlights flicker, mostly noticeable at night. They do not remain a steady beam of illumination. This is a major distraction and noticeable by other drivers as well as I have been asked not so kindly by another driver, why I keep flashing my lights at them. I noticed within a day or so of receiving my new 2024 GMC Cayon that the headlights would randomly flicker. No specific pattern or time interval just random. When I was finally able to get the truck in to the dealership for service, they reviewed the issue and called me the following day to inform me that couldn't repair it. Seems that GMC is aware and they currently have no fix since all headlights they have in stock potentially have the same issue. It seems obvious to me that driving at night with headlights that will not stay on is a huge safety issue and needless to say I do not want to cause an accident or get cited for an issue the manufacturer has no repair for. Leaving my only vehicle parked at home till a fix is found is not an option either.

Constant headlight flickering. Lights sometimes shut off totally. Almost caused (2) accidents due to this safety issue! Why will the NTSB not make GM file a recall for this issue? Does someone need to be killed first? Do your job and make GM do theirs!

My headlights keep flickering immerdiently, it doesn't matter if they are on auto or manually. I called the dealership I purchased it from and they said there is nothing they can do until they receive a resolution from GMC. This poses a safety hazard at night. Not only that, people keep thinking I am flashing my lights at them.

When On, the normal beam headlights randomly flicker off and back on very quickly. This occurs when headlight control is in "Auto" or "Manual On". Its periodicity varies. The flicker is so fast that driver visibility is not impacted much at this time. However, on coming vehicles and vehicle in front of my truck are getting lights flickered at them. This can lead to confusion, annoyance and road rage. The primary impact is getting brights flashed towards me, which does inhibit my vision for a time.

Headlights intermittently flicker. It causes other drivers to focus on my vehicle. It also cause me to focus on the issue more than actually driving the vehicle. It could cause issues with road rage. To my knowledge GM is aware.

The headlights will flicker for a split second every 1-5 minutes, affecting both headlamps. While this issue does not make the car unusable, it is not expected of a brand new vehicle and could be interpreted by other drivers as aggressive signaling that leads to potential road rage escalations.

Vehicle headlights flicker on/ off momentarily at random when travelling at night. The flickering is NOT the automatic high beam function. When flickering occurs vehicles ahead may believe the lights are being flashed at them. GM issued a repair order to replace headlights but has since stopped performing replacement because problem has not been solved.

My GMC Canyon has an issue with flickering of the headlights at night, which sometimes results in one side or the other going completely out. I'm part of several Canyon forums, and this seems to be an issue with most 2024 Canyons. The flicker is more of an annoyance, as I can still see, but I do believe it blinds oncoming drivers when it happens, as they flash me. Obviously headlights going completely out is another issue. I have not had both go out at the same time, but many others have. The flicker happens every time my headlights are on. The total outage has only happened once. I did contact the dealership where I purchased this, and they said this is a known issue with no resolution yet. They sent me TSB #PIT6203, which states there is a known issue with the "issue internal to the LED controller that is part of the headlamp assembly". This TSB initially had a fix of replacing the headlight assemblies, but was updated in July to instruct dealers not to do that, as it doesn't fix the issue.

The headlights when turned on flash/flicker from while driving at night. I see they have service bulletin but this is hazard as it temp brights other drivers as well as causing a weird issue while driving.

The headlight assemblies has a random blinking, flashing, flicker, on/off problem. This causes people to think I am either flashing them or blinking my light at them. Major safety concern!! GM is aware of this issue and does not have a fix. I requested a different vehicle to drive until they fix this safety issue and was denied.

My headlights flicker. The issue is problematic because other drivers think I'm flashing my lights at them. There are no warnings on the dash the vehicle is brand new. I took it home last friday. It creates a driver distraction and is unsafe. I took the vehicle back to the dealer and they advised a software update was coming. When? My problem is not resolved.

Headlights blinking/flickering every 5 seconds to 45 seconds in between.

The headlights in front of truck are doing a flicker here and there. It is happening by itself, during normal operation. It kind of looks like I'm flashing my high beams when it happens. People may think I'm flashing my high beams at them when I'm not. I think other people are having the same issue with this GMC truck. I have not contacted GM waiting to see if they will publish something, since it seems like they are now aware of the issue?

The headlights flicker off and on every 30 seconds or so while driving or stationary. This occurs no matter what setting the headlight are in. Other drivers think I am flashing my lights at them and have responded negatively by brake checking me in traffic, flashing their high beams at me when oncoming etc. I am worried that the lights may flicker off and stay off while driving at night. The dealer has recreated the problem but still has no fix. My truck has been in the dealer's shop since mid July.

The issue involves the headlight assemblies flickering frequently. The whole headlight assembly will randomly turn off and on, one at a time typically. It will cause temporary loss of sight down road at night. I have also noticed other motorists flash their brights at me thinking that's what the flicker was, so it's causing disruptions to other drivers as well. GM is aware of the issue but has no fix in place and no timeframe for the fix.

This is a new truck, with less than 500 miles, and no warning lights are issued.

Headlights have intermittent lighting failure resulting in brief flashes/blinking of the lights. There are multiple complaints and this is known by GMC, but there is no current resolution.

Headlights flicker (on/off) very rapidly, independent of each other, at random times.

Headlights have an intermittent flicker that happens every 2 to 3 minutes. This flicker is a complete shutdown of the headlight for a fraction of a second, but long enough to notice and have other people in other vehicles notice as well. It is repeatable, and has been repeated by the dealer. It puts my safety at risk. Dealer stated and produced a bulletin that states they are aware of the problem, but do not have a fix for it yet. Bulletin is PIT6203A.

The headlights flicker on and off frequently (every minute to two minutes). This put my safety at risk for not being able to see the road clear and causing a acident. It puts other drivers safety at risk because they get flashing lights pointed at their windshield and can cause and accident. It is also a safety risk because other drivers assume the flickering is being done by me the driver on purpose and I am concerned it will start road rage or another driver to escalate thinking I am road raging at them. Dealer is aware of the problem. No warning lamps. Started with 40 miles on the truck.

This truck was purchased brand new on [XXX]. Noticed lights are intermittently flickering (every 2-4 minutes) when driving at night on [XXX]. We took vehicle in to dealership (Jessup Automotive) on 8/23/24 where is was purchased and work order stated, "Engineering is aware of this concern and is working towards a resolution. It is no longer recommended to replace the headlamp assemblies as it has been found that the issue is present in the replacements currently stocked at CCA. This PI will be updated when this direction changes." Other vehicles think you are blinking your lights at them. We took a video. Also, there are other vehicles of people having same issue on [XXX] . The vehicle has been inspected by dealership. We are taking to another GMC to get second opinion. No warning lamps, messages or other symptoms before the failure. Owners on the website mentioned that changing the headlight assembly worked. They stated change module or headlights did not work. This problem has been going on at least since since May 2024. We have paid $40,000 for a truck that we are worried about driving at night. Waiting for call back from GMC now who we called on August 23, 2024 in which they stated they would call back within two business day. I have video, however it won't attach. The headlights keep flickering. Oncoming traffic thinks I am flashing them for some reason. It’s very unsafe to drive this vehicle at night due to this issue. I would like the issue fixed asap.

Purchased vehicle 8/3/2024 and on way home experienced headlights were flickering. The problem continued and is so bad approaching vehicles will flash their bright headlights at my truck. At a 4 way stop other vehicles think I’m flashing them to go. This flickering makes it impossible to drive safely at night. It’s not only a distraction to me but other drivers as well. I brought the vehicle back to the GMC dealer and was told they were aware of the problem and have no solution to correct it. This is an unsafe vehicle to drive at night and is a distraction to other drivers. The only response from GM is they are aware of the problem.

Headlights flicker once every couple of minutes or so. This could very well indicate me flashing someone to turn or go in front of me. I have seen multiple internet threads of this same issue happening to 2024 GMC Canyon owners. The car has 500 miles on it and I've noticed it since I've had the vehicle. No warning signs or anything. Seems like it is computer related.

The headlights flicker when driving at night. Every minute they turn of and back on quickly. The cars in front think I am flashing them and they pull over to the side or slow down. This started at 200 miles.

Headlights frequently flickering. Flickering varies from 30 seconds to 5 minutes in between. Very random and unpredictable. Service department at the dealership was able to replicate the issue. They found a bulletin, PIT6203 that said to replace the headlights, so they ordered new ones. After three weeks I called the dealer and they said GM cancelled the order because replacing the headlights did not resolve the issue. Headlights flickering has caused other drivers to flash their lights at me. Concerned that other drivers may see my lights flicker and assume I’m giving them to go ahead causing them to pull in front of me causing an accident. Additionally there is a concern my lights completely going out while driving.

Since new headlights have flicker. Took to dealership, they stated that this is a known problem with the 2024 headlights and they have no repair and gave the truck back. NO DATE OF REPAIR PROMISED OR IMPLIED. The headlights are not just an immediate danger on for driver in truck but on coming traffic. I have been pulled over for "flashing" a police officer, flip off from other drivers that think I am flashing them. Please help the entire 2024 canyon population as this is a common problem.

Headlamps flickering. At first the automatic high beams were causing an issue so I turned that off then it was the headlamps while running normal continue to flicker while driving.

The contact owns a 2024 GMC Canyon. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the front headlights were flickering intermittently. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where the failure was acknowledged; however, the contact was informed that mechanics were not authorized by the manufacturer to repair the vehicle. The manufacturer was also notified of the failure but offered no assistance. Upon investigation, the contact discovered Technical Service Bulletin: PIT6103A; which was linked to the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 50.

Headlights flickering/blinking every 1-3 minutes intervals when on. This bothers oncoming traffic.

Headlights flicker all the time regardless of speed Radar cruise control will slam on the brakes for no reason even when there's nothing in front of me. (Seems to happen more at night) Blindspot monitoring will randomly turn on for no reason

Causes quick moments of darkness and is disorienting when driving at night. No warning lights or signs of damage. This issue has been reported by many other vehicle owners and currently GM has not published a solution. Other vehicle owners reported that dealerships did not resolve the problem after replacing the headlight module and updating firmware. The solution is believed to be to replace the headlight assemble due to bad diodes during manufacturing. Headlights have done this since I bought the car.

The headlight assemblies randomly flicker, and occurs while driving and while parked. It includes the HID headlights and the LED daytime running lights. The dealer has confirmed that the issue exists with this model vehicle; however, there is currently no fix.

The headlights on the truck turn off for a split second and continue to do so randomly. If I had to guess they are turning off and on every 5 minutes. This causes people in front of me to think I am flashing them and the bigger concern is if they were to not turn back on again. The dealer I brought it to said that GM is currently working on a software solution to figure out the problem. Researching this issue online I found that there is a TSB already filed (PIT6203) for this issue and it sounds like there is some success fixing the issue by swapping out the headlights but does not always fix the issue. GM has not come out with an official solution for this widespread issue yet.

Headlight flicker, affects day time running light, low beam, high beam and possibly taillights. Lighter flicker off and on periodically about every 1-2 minutes consistently regardless of driving or parked, and regardless if the lights are switched on automatically or manually. Problem has been continuous since purchase of vehicle 1 month ago.

As I've heard many others report, my Canyon has the headlight flicker problem that seems to be plaguing these vehicles. Driving during the night, the headlights will periodically go out every couple of minutes. It is very brief (less that 0.5 second) but very distracting and cannot be safe for other vehicles on the road.

Headlights are continuously flickering and GM does not have a solution. This is concerning because drivers think I am constantly flashing my lights at them which has resulted in them flashing their brights at me. This could cause an accident, so I am very concerned about driving the truck at night. GM needs to address this immediately before someone is hurt.

The headlights while driving will flicker completely off. This happens during the daylight lights are on and at night when main headlights are on. This is very dangerous and concerning while driving at night when I have to drive on country roads where the headlights are vital. This issue also creates unnecessary confusion with other drivers as they are under impression I'm flashing my lights at them.

Every few minutes the headlights flicker. GM does not have a fix for this currently.

Driver’s and passenger side daytime running lights and headlights flicker off randomly. This creates the potential that the lights may fail while needed at night leaving the driver without forward illumination. It has lead to drivers in front of me thinking I’m flashing my lights at them while following which in turn the driver in front of me slows down excessively in protest of their belief that I am flashing lights at them. I’ve also had oncoming traffic flash their high beams at me believing I activated my high beams at them thereby creating an unnecessary blinding situation. The flashing could be interpreted by either oncoming traffic or a pedestrian that I am yielding the right of way when I actually am not and lead to a motor vehicle accident or a pedestrian being struck or at minimum put at risk.

Been experiencing an intermittent issue. After completing an indicated right hand turn, the vehicle will signal a left turn for 3 blinks. This is a safety issue because the vehicle is signaling a left turn when no turn is intended.

GM looked and confirmed issue but said to not replace any modules or other parts until they can redesign the headlights. Happening on all 2024 GMC Canyons. Issue during daytime driving could lead to road rage. Issue at night is worse obviously because it is very distracting to oncoming and other drivers. Police could think you are trying to warn other drivers of their presence which would lead to a citation but mostly the distraction and irritation to other drivers is going to lead to an accident or worse. GMC needs to recall these Canyons and get a fix immediately.

The vehicle headlights flicker off and on intermittently, sometimes within a few seconds of each occurrence, other times several minutes between flickering off and on. The flickering is distracting to the driver of the vehicle and to other drivers as well as oncoming drivers flash lights back. The dealership has been notified and they are aware of other complaints on 2024 GMC Canyon vehicles. This is a known issue among other owners and apparently GM as the issue has been voiced on social media sites related to the Canyon and on Canyon related group forums.

My 2024 GMC Canyon AT4X picked up on Saturday 8/10/24. First time driving it at night I kept noticing a flickering of the headlights. I confirmed after reading multiple complaints online about the headlight blinking on many GMC forums. I have a video of it and have shown it to the dealership service department. They are ordering a lighting control module for the headlamp assembly. Very concerning that a headlight malfunction with less that 20 miles on the vehicle. And very noticeable at night almost looking like you are flashing your headlight at drivers in front of you.

When driving at night or anytime for that matter, and the low beams are engaged, the whole light housing will momentarily shut off and turn back on. This can cause safety issues, especially since it looks like you are flashing people. It happens randomly and affects both the driver side headlight and passenger side headlight. It will only stop if you turn the entire headlight housing off, or only have the daytime running lights on. I am unable to attach videos. This issue seems to affect 2024 GMC Canyons manufactured after April 2024.

Approximately every minute while driving with the headlights on, they will turn off/flicker for a split-second. This makes it seem like I’m flashing my lights at other vehicles, and also makes the lights turn off while driving for a split second which is distracting. This has happened since the vehicle was purchased new and it happens any time the headlights are turned on.

LED headlamps on both sides of vehicle routinely "flicker" / "blink". The effect is such that oncoming traffic assumes you are "flashing" them or "high beaming" them. Have had several encounters with motorists honking at me or yelling as I pass by. I was also break checked by a vehicle in front of me on the highway when driving at night. These incidents have made driving at night very stressful..... and potentially dangerous. Dealership has been notified and initially stated that they would replace headlamps and ordered those items. I day before my appointment , they cancelled and said that GM was no longer replacing headlamps and was "working on a fix" PIT # 6203A. No time table has been given. This issue is apparently widespread on 2024 Canyons built between March and June of 2024.

Headlights began flickering two days after purchase of vehicle. Infotainment screen that operates the headlights, as there is no physical headlight knobs or buttons, also malfunction and is inoperable. So I can not turn my headlights on or off, they're set to auto and I can not adjust it. Service department at my dealership has been able to replicate my issues and are trying to fix them, but parts availability is an issue. GM has informed me that the parts are delayed with no eta of when they would be available. Issues with the headlights flickering could lead other drivers to think I'm flashing my lights at them as I'm telling them to go ahead and that could cause a wreck. Also with the flickering there is a chance that the lights could completely cut off or go out and if I'm driving at night that would be a very big issue. Hazards include the possible signs of headlight catastrophic failure rendering the driver unable to see the road and surrounding vehicles as well as other drivers being unable to see you that could result in injury or death. Vehicles that are being trailed when the flickering occurs interpret the action as being indicated to rush and make way for the approaching vehicle resulting in road rage actions such as brake checking or other forms of violence that can result in injury or death. Pedestrians may interpret the flicker as the driver yielding to them resulting in the pedestrian entering the path of a moving vehicle resulting in injury or death. Oncoming drivers that are being flashed from the flicker are distracted or blinded in a way that could result in injury or death. Please escalate this safety issue to a formal recall due to severe consequences that could result from the faulty headlamps.

The headlights are malfunctioning where they periodically flicker and there is a loss of lighting. The frequency seems to increase the longer the headlights are on and in use. The loss of lighting during the event increases risks of driving at night and impairing oncoming traffic. Yes, the problem has been confirmed and documented by my dealer, Ideal Buick GMC in Frederick MD Yes, Dealer inspected the problem, replaced parts but the problem still exists. No other indications of failure. Symptoms appeared immediately after taking delivery of vehicle.

The headlights randomly flicker on and off while driving at night. This not only causes a distraction while i'm driving but is also affecting other drivers. Drivers in the other lane keep mistaking the flicker as me turning on my bright lights which is leading other driver to retaliate and either put on their bright lights or flash their brights at me. I also had one instance where a car I was following thought I was continually flashing my head lights at him and he proceeded to get behind me and tailgate me with his bright lights on. Due to the frequency of the issue and the unknown cause I fear that at some point the lights will go out completely while driving at night. The truck has been taken to the dealer an they state they are unable to reproduce however there is an only forum where multiple owners are reporting the same issue.
