Vehicle brakes stopped working while driving. Dash board lit up and stated system brake failure. Also stated “do not exceed 43mph”
While driving a two lane road the adaptive cruise control detects oncoming traffic and improperly slows down or breaks unnecessarily. Most of the time the vehicle breaks so hard it will jolts me forward in my seat. I fear another car will be behind me and this will cause an accident. I have had my vehicle in the shop two (2) times to repair the issue. The dealership/service department has been able to replicate the issue by having one of their technicians drive the vehicle. The front camera has been replaced twice and I have been told every time they plug a new camera in the trucks interior and exterior lights "go crazy and flash". GM's response to this issue is "set the gap to mid" or simply "shut it off". They refuse to see this as an issue. Doing my research I found that the 2023 GMC Canyons have been recalled due to the same issue. I have brought this information to the sales department. However due to not being able to find this on General Motors website I have been told by the dealership/service department, and owner of the dealership that the information I found on NHTSA is insufficient and they can not go off this information.

Trailer braking and stability control randomly disables. This leaves an unsafe condition when towing any trailers that require a trailer brake controller. Has happened on multiple occasions.
Collision Avoidance comprised of Following Gap and Alarm / Auto Braking does not function. One dealer after two trips and unable to repair stated that GM is working on a new software update and until that is available repair is not possible. No date was provided by dealer or GM customer service as to when this update would be available. Second dealer stated that system was in fact not functioning, and asked me to return in a couple days, so he could research the issue, He knew nothing about a pending update. Both dealers stated that no alarms or codes were present in spite of failure.

On [XXX] I took a trip with family through Ohio from Pennsylvania. While truck was in adaptive cruise control on highway, phantom braking occurred where truck slowed down from 70mph to about 60mph 5 times. No objects or vehicles in front of truck or around truck during the braking. The weather was mostly clear overcast at times with no rain or snow. Concerned if vehicles were behind me during the breaking causing an accident. It was abrupt completely out of the blue when it happened. Took truck into service on 1/8/25 for oil change and braking issue, dealership states there’s no service bulletin for issue. I have not used adaptive cruise control since. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
Adaptive Cruise Control has applied brakes multiple times while cruise has been sent at speeds ranging from 55-75 MPH. Vehicle aggressively slowed down 10-20 MPH then picked up speed. No vehicles in sight ahead of vehicle, aggressively applied braking without warning. Aggressive braking could cause traffic behind vehicle to crash into me while driving at high speeds. Multiple other reports of this happening to other 2023-2024 GMC Canyon owners based on comments on Facebook and Reddit with acknowledgement from the manufacturer that this is a know issue they currently are trying to resolve. Issue not isolated to this vehicle. Vehicle has not been inspected by Manufacturer or problem been reproduced dealership. Vehicle goes in for service next week, meanwhile cruise is not being used as it is a safety hazard. No collision warning or any other warnings experienced with this issue. Issue first happened on day 1 of vehicle ownership and has happened 2-3 other times with one instance of it braking and accelerating 3 times over a 2-3 mile stretch of highway with cruise set at 75MPH with vehicle slowing down to around 55MPH before resuming set speed.
Headlights flicker all the time regardless of speed Radar cruise control will slam on the brakes for no reason even when there's nothing in front of me. (Seems to happen more at night) Blindspot monitoring will randomly turn on for no reason
I was driving with my cruise control set at 77 mph in the fast lane of a four-lane highway. There was no one in front of me for more than 3/4 of a mile. A car in the lane to my right apparently triggered the automatic breaking system to the point it slammed on my brakes, pushed me into the steering wheel, and slowed me all the way to 38 mph in the fast lane of the freeway. The result of this unrequested breaking caused four cars behind me to almost rear end me and pile up. The second event was going down the freeway with the cruise control set at 65 and nobody around me and the car again slammed the brakes on for no apparent reason. At this point I’m afraid to drive the car. I have zero confidence in this vehicle letting me operate the vehicle. I need help.
