THE SPEEDOMETER HAS BEEN AN ONGOING PROBLEM, WITH IT NOT WORKING PROPERLY. IT WILL GO OUT OF WACK WHILE DRIVING, AND YOU DO NOT KNOW WHAT YOUR SPEED IS WHEN IT DROPS PAST THE 120 MPH RANGE, THEN WHEN VEHICLE IS STOPPED, IT MAY READ 60 OR 70 MPH RANGE. PEOPLE ARE MAKING COMPLAINTS ALL OVER ABOUT THIS AS WELL AS THE GAS GAUGE DOING THE SAME THING. GMC DEALER STATES THAT THERE ARE NO RECALLS ON THESE PROBLEMS. THESE ARE SAFETY RELATED PROBLEMS, AND NEED TO BE RECALLED. I HAVE AN EXTENDED WARRANTY ON MY VEHICLE (STILL IN FORCE), WITH A $100 DEDUCTIBLE, BUT WHY SHOULD THE WARRANTY COMPANY PAY FOR THIS, IF IT IS A PROBLEM WITH GM (MANY MAKES AND MODELS, NOT JUST MINE). I ALSO KNOW FOR FACT, WHAT THE PROBLEM IS, AND THAT IS THESE GAUGES HAVE "STEPPER MOTORS", THAT CONTROL THE "NEEDLE" THAT SHOWS SPEED, FUEL, RPM, ECT, AND THE STEPPER MOTORS ARE THE DEFECTIVE PART. WHEN THE STEPPER MOTORS ARE REPLACED, THEY HAVE A NEW PART NUMBER, AS THE DEFECTIVE ONES HAVE THE OLD PART NUMBER. ALL GM DEALERS ARE AWARE OF THIS, YET REFUSE TO REPLACE AT THERE COST. IF THE OEM EQUIPMENT WAS FINE, THEN WHY ARE THE REPLACEMENTS DIFFERENT AND WITH A NEW PART NUMBER. MY GMC DEALER SHIP, WON'T EVEN REPLACE THE STEPPER MOTORS, AND WANT TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER. THIS AGAIN IS A SAFETY ISSUE, AND A MONEY ISSUE, AS I KNOW FIRST HAND AFTER RECEIVING A $165 SPEEDING TICKET, NOT KNOWING HOW FAST I WAS GOING WITH NO TRAFFIC AROUND. THE GAS GAUGE MAY READ HALF A TANK, AND THEN YOU STALL OUT ON THE FREEWAY, AND GET REAR ENDED, WHICH AT THOSE SPEEDS, HOPE YOU OR THE PERSON THAT REAR ENDS YOU SURVIVE! NOT TO MENTION AN INSURANCE CLAIM (AUTO AND/OR BI CLAIM), AND/OR A POSSIBLE DEATH. BY THE WAY, I AM AN AUTO INSURANCE ADJUSTER BY TRADE, AND HAVE BEEN FOR 34 YEARS. ONE INCIDENT WHERE THE DOOR MALFUNCTIONED IN A POSITION WHERE THE DOOR CAME COMPLETELY OFF THREE OF THE LATCHES AND THE DOOR WAS ONLY BEING HELD ON BY THE NON-ELECTRONIC LATCH, THE DOOR FELL INTO MY ARMS AND I HAD TO HOLD THE DOOR UP AND MANUALLY PLACE IT INTO POSITION SO I COULD GET IT TO CLOSE. HAD I NOT CAUGHT THE DOOR, IT WOULD HAVE FALLEN TO THE GROUND. IT WOULD HAVE BEEN DAMAGED. IT COULD HAVE BEEN POSSIBLE THAT THE DOOR FELL OUT ONTO ME, CAUSING INJURY. ON OCTOBER 1ST, 2011 THE DOOR CAME OPEN WHILE SITTING AT A RED LIGHT, AS THE VEHICLE PULLED AWAY AT A GREEN LIGHT THE DOOR FLUNG OPEN IN A TAILGATE FASHION(TRUCKBED STYLE) AND SLAMMED AGAINST THE STOPS CAUSING THE WINDOW TO SHATTER ON THE ROAD. PRIOR TO THIS HAPPENING, WE WERE LOADING GROCERIES INTO THE BACK WITH THE DOOR OPENED IN THE SWING DOOR FASHION( TO THE SIDE) WHEN WE ATTEMPTED TO CLOSE THE DOOR, IT JUST BOUNCED BACK AND DID NOT SECURE. WE KEPT TRYING TO SECURE THE DOOR AND FINALLY THE DOOR SECURED, BUT IT WOULD ONLY SECURE WITH ONE ELECTRONIC LATCH AND THE MANUAL LATCH, THE TOP LEFT LATCH WOULD NOT CLOSE. IT SHOWED AJAR ON THE DASH. AS STATED ABOVE WHEN WE PULLED AWAY AT A GREEN LIGHT, THE DOOR FLUNG OPEN LIKE A TRUCK BED STYLE WITH THE WINDOW UP. THE DOOR IS NOT DESIGNED TO OPEN TRUCKBED STYLE WITH THE WINDOW UP, THE WINDOW NEEDS TO BE IN THE OPEN POSITION BEFORE IT WILL OPEN TRUCK BED STYLE. EVEN IF YOU WERE TO ACTIVATE THE TRUCKBED LATCH OPENER, THE DOOR WOULD SENSE THAT THE WINDOW WAS UP AND DEFAULT TO THE SIDE SWING METHOD. DRIVING ON INTERSTATE 91 SOUTH, GLANCED DOWN TO SEE MY SPEEDOMETER INDICATED I WAS TRAVELING 75 MILES PERHOUR LET OFF THE ACCELERATOR TO DECREASE SPEED WHEN I REALIZED THE VEHICLE BEHIND MINE HAD TO PULL AROUND MY VEHICLE TO AVOID HITTING MINE IN THE REAR. SEVERAL MILES LATER I DISCOVERED MY SPEEDOMETER INDICATED I WAS TRAVELING 120MPH ALTHOUGH KEEPING UP WITH TRAFFIC. AS I PULLED OF HIGHWAY AND HIT MY BRAKES THE SPEEDOMETER DECREASED IN SPEED, ALTHOUGH WHEN AT A COMPLETE STOP SPEEDOMETER INDICATED I WAS TRAVELING 30 MPH.
