TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 GMC ENVOY. WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY, THE EXHAUST MANIFOLD FRACTURED AND THE HEAT FROM THE EXHAUST MANIFOLD DAMAGED THE FRAME OF THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FAILURE CAUSED SEVERE RUST AND CORROSION. IN ADDITION, THE CONTACT STATED THAT THERE WERE HOLES IN THE FRAME. A DEALER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THE FAILURE WAS NOT SAFETY RELATED AND THERE WERE NO RECALLS ON THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 136,000.

IN ADDITION, THERE WAS A MALFUNCTION WITH THE HEADLIGHTS REMAINING "ON" WHEN DEACTIVATED. THE FAILURE OCCURRED INTERMITTENT. THE FAN CLUTCH FAILED UNEXPECTEDLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR INSPECTION. THE FAN CLUTCH WAS REPLACED. THE CONTACT HAD CONCERN OF THE SAFETY RISK INVOLVED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 50,000. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 57,000.

I PURCHASED A USED 2004 GMC ENVOY SLT, WITH AN EXTENDED WARRANTY FROM GRAND PRIX AUTO GROUP, HICKSVILLE, NY IN AUGUST 2008. SOON AFTER PURCHASING THE CAR IT STALLED WHILE WE WERE AT A RED LIGHT. IMMEDIATELY BROUGHT THE TRUCK BACK TO THE DEALER AND THEY SAID THEY FIXED IT, MAY I MENTION IT NEVER STOPPED STALLING. THEN THE SPEEDOMETER BROKE AGAIN. IT CONSTANTLY SAYS I'M TRAVELING 120 MILES AN HOUR. ONCE AGAIN, BROUGHT IT BACK TO THE DEALER, THEY TELL ME I NEED TO GO TO A GMC DEALER, I DO, THEY REPLACE THE INFORMATION CLUSTER AND SPEEDOMETER, HAD TO PAY A $ 300.00 DEDUCTIBLE. THIS WAS IN MARCH 2009. DRIVING THE OTHER DAY OCTOBER 2009 AND THE SPEEDOMETER ONCE AGAIN SAYS 120. GET PULLED OVER, GET A TICKET FOR A BROKEN SPEEDOMETER. THE OFFICER WAS AWARE I WAS NOT TRAVELING AT THAT SPEED, AND EVEN WHEN I TRIED TO EXPLAIN, WANTED TO HEAR NONE OF IT. THERE WERE NO DAMAGES TO THE VEHICLES OR THE OCCUPANTS. HE PULLED OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND NOTICED SMOKE SUDDENLY APPEARING FROM THE FRONT END OF THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS COMPLETELY DESTROYED AND TOWED TO A COLLISION CENTER. THE INSURANCE COMPANY WAS NOTIFIED; HOWEVER, THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE HAS NOT YET BEEN DETERMINED. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN. A FIRE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS COMPLETELY DESTROYED. THE CONTACT HAS PICTURES OF THE VEHICLE AFTER THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER PROVIDED NO ASSISTANCE. I WAS DRIVING IN TOWN AND MY SPEEDOMETER STOPPED WORKING AT 0. THE OIL GAUGE IS NOT WORKING, PEGGED OUT AT THE MAX AND MY ENGINE LIGHT IS NOW CONSTANTLY ON. THESE EVENTS, PARTICULARLY THE SPEEDOMETER NOT WORKING, IS A MAJOR SAFETY HAZARD. NOT DRIVING AT CONTROLLABLE SPEEDS CAN LEAD TO AN ACCIDENT AND DEATH. THE PARTS AND LABOR TO FIX THIS PROBLEM IS $550. WHILE RESEARCHING THIS PROBLEM ON THE INTERNET, I'VE FOUND OUT THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH GMC'S IN THIS YEAR. THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL WITH THE CLUSTER UNIT ON 2004 GMC ENVOYS. GMC SHOULD TRY TO PREVENT DEATHS THAT THEIR PRODUCTS MAY CREATE. *TR

GMC ENVOY SUV (4.2) INLINE 6-CYLINDER. VEHICLE HAS STALLED FIVE TIMES INTERMITTENTLY OVER THE PAST SIX MONTHS. IT STALLS OUT WHEN YOU BEGIN TO STOP OR START TO ACCELERATE FROM A STOP OR JUST WHILE IDLING. LUCKILY IT HASN'T BEEN WHEN I WAS TRYING TO PASS OR MERGE IN TRAFFIC. THE FIRST TIME WAS AROUND 23,000 AND THE SECOND TIME 23,500. THE NEXT OCCURRENCE HAPPENED WHILE IT WAS SITTING IN A PARKING LOT IDLING AND IT DIED AFTER RUNNING FOR 5-8 MINUTES. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AND THEY SAID IT WAS THE THROTTLE BODY THAT NEEDED CLEANING - DONE. SIX WEEKS LATER AND 1500 MILES IT STALLED WHEN I WAS TRYING TO MAKE A U-TURN IN ST. PETERSBURG AND I NEARLY GOT REAR ENDED. DEALER KEPT IT TWO DAYS AND DID NOTHING SINCE THEY COULDN'T DUPLICATE PROBLEM AND COULDN'T GET ANYTHING FROM THE COMPUTER. I TOOK IT BACK TO THE DEALER ON 7/21 FOR REGULAR MAINTENANCE (OIL CHANGE, FUEL FILTER CHANGE, AND A/C REPAIR-BAD CLUTCH). THE DEALER SAID THEY HAD TWO COMPUTER MODULE UPDATES, ONE TO FIX STALLS. THREE DAYS LATER IT STALLED IN JACKSONVILLE TRAFFIC AT A STOP LIGHT. I HAVE TAKEN IT BACK FOR A FOURTH TIME TO THE DEALER AND LEFT FOR A WEEK. DEALER SAID VEHICLE IDLING ROUGH BUT COMPUTER NOT REGISTERING PROBLEM SO NOTHING WAS DONE, AGAIN. I E-MAILED GM AND I HAVE HAD NO REPLY IN TWO WEEKS. I SEE WHERE A PERSON WITH A V8 VERSION IS HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM. THIS IS AN ACCIDENT WAITING TO HAPPEN. *JB

THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN TO THE DEALERSHIP EACH TIME. ON EVERY OCCASION THE GAUGES WERE CLEANED AND THE OXYGEN SENSORS WERE REPLACED. THE PROBLEM PERSISTS.

I BOUGHT MY GMC ENVOY IN JANUARY 2004 FOR APPROX. $42,000. THIS CAR HAS EVERYTHING. AFTER ABOUT 2 MONTHS OF THE PURCHASE, MY GPS WENT OUT AND HAD BEEN FIXED TWICE. MY BRAKES DO NOT ALWAYS WORK --SOMETIMES THEY SLIP ESPECIALLY WHEN I NEED THEM MOST -WHICH IS SCARY. GMC SAID THAT THEY HAVE HEARD ABOUT THIS PROBLEM BEFORE, BUT DID NOTHING TO RESOLVE THE PROBLEM. THE ENGINE STALLS PERIODICALLY. GMC SAID THEY DO NOT KNOW WHY. THE GAS GAUGE AND ODOMETER DO NOT WORK PROPERLY. WHEN I BROUGHT MY VEHICLE INTO NORTH COUNTY GMC DEALERSHIP IN SAN DIEGO FOR REPAIRS I MENTIONED MY GAS GAUGE DID NOT WORK ALONG WITH MANY OF THE OTHER ISSUES. AFTER THEY REPAIRED THE ODOMETER BY REPLACING THE CLUSTER, THE GAS GAUGE STILL DID NOT WORK. EVERY SINGLE TIME THESE PROBLEMS HAPPEN I AM FORCED TO PAY A $100 SERVICE CHARGE JUST SO THEY CAN LOOK AT IT AND BECAUSE I AM IN SALES, I AM ALSO FORCED TO GET A RENTAL CAR. AFTER ALL THIS, I AM STILL QUITE DISPLEASED WITH GMC. I HATE TO SAY IT BUT THEY ARE SUPPOSED TO BE THE BEST AMERICAN CAR ??PROFESSIONAL GRADE?? AND IF THIS IS TRUE I WILL NEVER BUY AN AMERICAN VEHICLE AGAIN. GMC SAID THEY WOULD BE CHECKING ON ALL THESE PROBLEMS AND EVERY SINGLE TIME I PICKED MY ENVOY UP AFTER THEY SUPPOSEDLY FIXED THE PROBLEMS, I FOUND SEVERAL ISSUES STILL UNRESOLVED. FIRST OF ALL MY ODOMETER GAUGE STOPPED OPERATING. IT REMAINED ON ZERO MILES WHILE I WAS DRIVING THE VEHICLE SINCE NOVEMBER 2005. THE WHOLE DASHBOARD CLUSTER HAD TO BE REINSTALLED. SECONDLY; THE SERVICE ENGINE SOON LIGHT BEGAN POPPING ON AND THE ENVOY WAS DRIVING ROUGH. I FOUND OUT FROM A GM DEALER THAT THE CLUTCH FAN FROZE WHICH CAUSED THE WATER PUMP TO BREAK AND THE RADIATOR TO OVER HEAT BURST THE RADIATOR HOSE AND SPEW OUT AND LEAK ALL OF THE WATER AND RADIATOR FLUID FROM THE RADIATOR. THE ENVOY IS NOW NOT DRIVABLE. I HAVE ONLY HAD THIS 2004 ENVOY SINCE NOVEMBER OF 2003. *NM

HAS BEEN THIS WAY FOR OVER 10 DAYS, DEALER CANNOT DIAGNOSE PROBLEM UNTIL THE "SERVICE ENGINE SOON" LIGHT COMES ON, WHICH IT HASN'T. IT IS NEARLY IMPOSSIBLE TO DRIVE AT NIGHT WITH DIM, FLASHING, HEADLIGHTS, AND IS CONFUSING TO OTHER DRIVERS. ALSO, A FAN CAN BE HEARD BLOWING OFF & ON APPROX ONCE EVERY MINUTE, AND THIS IS WITH THE VEHICLE COMPLETELY TURNED OFF AND THE KEY OUT OF THE IGNITION. THIS IS CONSTANT, I'M CONCERNED THE BATTERY WILL BE DEAD AND THE CAR WON'T START, OR THAT THE LIGHTS WILL COMPLETELY GO OUT WHILE I AM DRIVING AT NIGHT. REAR PASSENGER DOOR LOCKS SUDDENLY STOPPED WORKING WITH THE REMOTE AND THE DOOR UNLOCK SWITCH ON THE DRIVER'S DOOR. I HAVE TO CLIMB OVER THE FRONT SEAT INTO THE BACK TO PHYSICALLY UNLOCK THE DOOR TO REMOVE MY CHILDREN FROM THE CAR. *NM

ENGINE WILL SHUT OFF WHEN MAKING A HARD TURN: AFTER STOPPED AT A STOP SIGN, I WAS TRYING TO MAKE A HARD TURN (STEERING WHEEL REACHED THE MAXIMUM TURNING ANGLE) WHEN THE ENGINE SUDDENLY SHUT OFF ITSELF. IT HAPPENED THREE TIMES EITHER TUNING LEFT OR RIGHT (TODAY), BUT ALWAYS AFTER STOPPING AND WITH A HARD TURNING ANGLE. IT IS SUCH A HUGE SAFETY DEFECT WITH ALL THE CARS INFRONT AND BEHIND YOU. NO REPAIR ACTION HAS BEEN TAKEN. THE PROBLEM MAY BE REPRODUCED. 2. TURNING SIGNALS NOT WORKING AFTER EMERGENCY LIGHTS USED: IT HAPPENED TWO TIMES. TURNING SIGNAL LIGHTS (LEFT OR RIGHT) WILL NOT WORK CORRECTLY AFTER THE EMERGENCY LIGHTS WERE IN USE; INSTEAD BOTH LEFT AND RIGHT TURNING LIGHTS WILL FLASH AT THE SAME TIME. IT CAN BE REPRODUCED. NO REPAIR ACTION TAKEN YET. 3. DIFFICULT TURNING AT A HARD TURN WITH 4-WHEEL-DRIVE IS ON: IT IS ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO MAKE A HARD TURN WHEN THE 4-WHELL-DRIVE IS ON. IT HAPPENS EVERY TIME.
