On steering wheel where the GMC logo is . Melted/Melting from underneath. Some type of clear color gooey. Have been told it is seal for airbag. Also none of the chimes are not working at all example * seat belts, door,blinkers,dashboard chimes *dummy lights*,along with Bose stereo. Last issues are REAR VIEW MIRROR... KEEPS FALLING OFF. have taken to dealership SEVERAL TIMES! Now they are saying that I need to contact my auto insurance provider to put in claims.
The driver side window control caught fire, while the vehicle was sitting overnight. It was sitting by itself without reason to catch fire, but it did burn inside the driver side door.
Unknown All the cluster panels quite working. RPM, Speed, Oil, Water, Gas shows always empty. Danger because have to guess my speed and never know if I have enough gas, oil, or water in my car. Also sometimes when I shut off my car I cannot get the key out of the steering column. Cannot leave my car without my keys.
The contact owned a 2005 GMC Envoy. The contact stated while driving approximately 60 MPH the entire dashboard illuminated and needles on gauges had begun to move independently. The contact heard an abnormal "popping" sound from the front end of the vehicle and gray smoke was emitted from under the hood, the vehicle stalled. The contact was able to pull off of the roadway and placed the vehicle into park (P) with difficulty. The contact exited the vehicle and moved away towards the rear end. The contact stated that she noticed flames under the vehicle located at the front end. The contact stated that within 3 minutes of observing the flames under the vehicle, the entire front end became engulfed by flames. The police and fire department arrived on the scene. The contact stated that the fire department used a chemical to extinguish the flames, the contact stated that the flames had burned not only the front end and front tires but the front part of the passenger cabin including the seats. The contact stated that the highway patrol wrote a report and had been informed by the fire department that the fire appeared to have been caused by the electrical system. The vehicle was towed to an impound lot. The manufacturer had not been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.
I purchased my vehicle in oct of 2021 in Nov 2021 is when my car started failing my car started to lose power also started smoking from the lower passenger side no warning lights came on besides the oil warning light since Nov 2021 my car has been losing power it only goes up to about 40 m.p.h I have been smelling fuel coming from some where my tail and license plate light and back driver side inside car light stopped working the engine light turns on and off the steering wheel makes the car lose a little bit of power when I turn the wheel or when I roll up and down the windows or adjust my seat my ac does not work the back ac turns on by it's self to the heater does not work when I have it turned all the way to the 5 I hear clicking knocking noises in the back passenger side of the car my fuel injectors had puddles of oil in them the car gets really hot and blows hot air the engine is always hot the seatbelt lights are constantly flashing my check engine light as of today flashes on and off and the car jumps also my car caught on fire under the hood where the O2 sensor is started smoking than caught on fire.
All the gages have stopped working correctly. They do not report proper information to driver . The electrical wiring to the rear wiper, license plate lights and rear hatch stopped working. The most dangerous thing is the ABS brake system dash lights and bell comes on every time the car is driven and the brake pedal goes to the floor when trying to stop.
WHILE DRIVING IN A 40 MPH ZONE I GLANCED AT THE SPEEDOMETER AND IT READ 70 MPH! I IMMEDIATELY APPLIED THE BRAKES TO SLOW THE VEHICLE DOWN BEFORE I REALIZED THAT THE SPEEDOMETER INDICATION WAS INACCURATE. UPON COMING TO A COMPLETE STOP THE SPEEDOMETER INDICATED 40 MPH. THIS HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES BEFORE RESUMING NORMAL OPERATION. SINCE THEN I HAVE NOTICED THE GAUGE "STICKING" WHEN LETTING OFF OF THE GAS PEDAL. THIS IS CREATING AN UN-SAFE CONDITION FOR MYSELF AS WELL AS THE OCCUPANTS OF THIS VEHICLE. I DO NOT KNOW WHEN THE SPEED INDICATION IS TRULY ACCURATE. I HAVE SINCE LEARNED THAT THIS IS A COMMON DEFECT ON THIS VEHICLE AS WELL AS OTHER GM MODELS MADE DURING THIS TIME FRAME. THERE SHOULD DEFINITELY BE A RECALL ON THIS PROBLEM BEFORE AN ACCIDENT OCCURS.

THE GAS GAUGE STAYS ON EMPTY WHEN THERE IS A FULL TANK OF GAS. THERE REAR WINDSHIELD WIPER COMES ON BY ITSELF. THE RADIO PLAYS LIKE IT IS IN A TIN BOX. EVERY SO OFTEN IT WILL PLAY NORMAL. BUT MOST OF THE TIME IT DOESN'T. THIS HAPPENS WHEN IT IS MOVING OR IN PARK.

WHY IS MY VEHICLE NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL WHEN EVERYTHING IS THE SAME AS OTHER RECALLED VEHICLES ?? I WAS DRIVING ON THE PARKWAY WHEN I NOTICED A BURNING SMELL WITH NOWHERE TO PULL OVER FOR A FEW MILES IN GREAT PANIC WITH CARS GOING PAST ME AT 65 MPH PLUS AS I WAS BEING CAUTIOUS TO GET TO AN EXIT SO I COULD FIGURE OUT WHAT THE PROBLEM WAS. IT WAS THE DOOR SWITCH SO I LIFTED IT OUT OF THE DOOR AND UNPLUGGED IT SO I COULD CONTINUE MY TRIP. SCARY SITUATION . PLUS MY MECHANIC CAN'T GET THE ANSWER IF JUST REPLACING THE SWITCH WILL MAKE IT WORK OR DOES IT NEED PROGRAMMED INTO THE COMPUTER ?

I'VE HAD MY 2005 ENVOY FOR A LITTLE OVER A YEAR AND HAD MY HEADLIGHTS FLASH ON AND OFF WHILE DRIVING ON THE ROAD AND FREWAY. ON ONE OCCASION WHILE DRIVING ON A TWO LANE HIGHWAY AY NIGHT THE LIGHTS WENT OUT COMPLETELY FOR A FEW SECONDS. I WAS SO SCARED WSS REALLY GLAD FOR NO ONE BEHIND ME OR ON COMING TRAFFIC. ON ANOTHER OCCASSION I HAD TO PULL OVER ON CITY STREET AS MY LIGHTS WERE GOING ON AND OFF AND I COULD SEE THE CAR AHEAD WAS A COP AND I DIDNT WANT HIM TO THINK I WAS FLASHING FOR HELP ESPECIALLY AT 2 IN THE MORNING. IVE ALSO HAD TO EXIT THE FREEWAY BECAUSE MY LIGHTS STARTED GOING ON AND OFF AND ON AND WASNT SURE IF THEY WOULD JUST GO OUT COMPLETELY WHILE I WAS DRIVING AND SINCE IT WAS NIGHT TIME I DIDNT WANT TO TAKE THE CHANCE OF CAUSING AN ACCIDENT AND HURTING SOMEONE ELSE OR MYSELF. I PURCHASED MY CAR BRAND NEW IN 2005 AND I WILL NEVER BUY A GMC CAR AGAIN FOR THIS REASON IT'S ONE THING TO RECALL REPAIR PARTS THAT WERE BROKEN THAT TO REPAIR MALFUNCTION PARTS. VERY DISAPPOINTED. I HAVE STARTED TO USE A GPS SYSTEM WHEN I DRIVE TO SHOW MY SPEED.
I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY AFTER DARK AND MY LOW BEAMS COMPLETELY WENT OUT. I COULD ONLY GET MY HIGH BEAMS TO WORK. CURRENTLY ONLY ONE LOW BEAM IS WORKING AND THE OTHER WILL NOT WORK EVEN AFTER CHANGING THE BULB OR THE FUSE. I BELIEVE THIS IS A HUGE SAFETY CONCERN ESPECIALLY HAVING A YOUNG CHILD. IT WAS VERY SCARY GOING DOWN THE ROAD AT NIGHT AND HAVE YOUR LIGHTS COMPLETELY JUST GO OUT. I HAVE NOTICED THAT THERE ARE ISSUES WITH 06-07 ENVOYS BUT I WANTED GM TO BE MADE AWARE THAT 2005 MODELS HAVE BEEN AFFECTED AS WELL.

AS I WAS DRIVING THE VEHICLE, THE DASHBOARD LIT UP AND THE ODOMETER AND ALL THE INFORMATION SYSTEMS WENT TO ZERO. THIS HAS HAPPENED OFTEN OVER THE YEARS. I TOOK IT TO TWO GMC CAR DEALERSHIPS AND THE FIRST ONE SAID IT WAS THE KILL SWITCH INSTALLED BY A BUY HERE PAY HERE DEALERSHIP. THE KILL SWITCH WAS REMOVED AND THE DASHBOARD CONTINUED TO FLICKER. THEN THE CAR WOULD NOT START, I TOOK IT TO ANOTHER DEALERSHIP AND WAS TOLD THEY COULDN'T FIND ANYTHING. THE CAR BEGAN TO TRIBBLE, AGAIN I TOOK IT IN AND WAS TOLD THAT I NEEDED TO CLEAN THE FUEL INJECTION SYSTEM. I DID THAT AND BOUGHT A BATTERY BUT THAT DIDN'T HELP. THE TOW DRIVER SAID IT SEEMS TO BE SOMETHING ELECTRICAL BUT THE CAR DEALERSHIP CAN'T FIND A SOLUTION. HAVE YOU HAD THIS COMPLAINT BEFORE? NOT TO CONFUSE THE COMPLAINT, I HAVE SEVERAL ISSUES. 1. DASHBOARD LIGHTS UP AND THE INFORMATION PANELS SHUT DOWN (ALL ARE AT ZERO) 2. THE ODOMETER GOES TO ZERO AND THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER IS BLACK 3. THIS IS A RECURRING PROBLEM WITH NOT JUST MY VEHICLE, BUT AFTER A VERY SIMPLE WEB SEARCH A VAST NUMBER OF THESE GMC ENVOY VEHICLES. WHEN TRAVELING NORMALLY THE SPEEDOMETER DECIDES TO EITHER DROP ITS SPEED BY 20-30 MPH OR RAISE IT EVEN AS HIGH AS 120MPH. WHEN TRAVELING IN THE CITY OR HWY WHERE THE SPEED LIMIT ZONES VARY RATHER FREQUENTLY AND IN HEAVY TRAFFIC, THE DRIVER NATURALLY REACTS TO THE NEEDLE UNAWARE THAT THE SPEEDOMETER IS ACTUALLY FAULTY. I HAVE THEREFORE BRAKED HARD TO REDUCE MY SPEED WHEN IN FACT I WAS GOING THE SPEED LIMIT. THAT CAN RESULT IN AN INSTANT TO A REAR END CRASH BASED ON NORMAL REACTIONS. GM OBVIOUSLY ARE AWARE OF THIS ISSUE AS THERE ARE MULTIPLE ON LINE COMPLAINTS FOR THIS SAME ISSUE AND INDEED THEY ISSUED A RECALL FOR SIMILAR GM TRUCKS. THEY HOWEVER CONTINUE TO IGNORE THE ENVOY PROBLEM AND LEAVE THE OWNERS "LIVE OR DIE" WITH THE PROBLEM. HOW THIS CANNOT BE CONSIDERED A HIGH PRIORITY SAFETY ISSUE IS A MYSTERY TO ME. EVEN 10 MPH VARIATIONS IN HEAVY TRAFFIC MEAN POTENTIAL ACCIDENTS FROM BUMPER HUGGING DRIVERS BEHIND. THIS ISSUE IS MORE COMMON IN THE EXTREME COLD WEATHER AND THUS I AM OF THE OPINION THAT THERE IS A DEFINITE TESTING VALIDATION PROBLEM. *TR

HEADLIGHTS, WIPERS & DIRECTIONS WERE STILL FUNCTIONAL. I ONLY HAD A MILE TO DRIVE TO GET HOME. PARKED VEHICLE IN GARAGE AND SHUT OFF....ONLY TO DISCOVER THAT POWER LOCKS HAD FAILED AND I WAS LOCKED IN CAR, POWER WINDOWS WERE ALSO OUT! REMOVED KEY FROM IGNITION AND FORTUNATELY THE REMOTE KEY FOB UNLOCKED THE DOOR. HAD THIS BEEN AN EMERGENCY SITUATION, I WOULD HAVE NO WAY TO EXIT THE CAR NOR WOULD ANY PASSENGERS. ANYONE ELSE HAVING THIS PROBLEM? I CONTACTED DEALER TO APPRIZE THEM OF THIS NEW PROBLEM AND WAS ADVISED THAT IF IT'S INTERMITTENT THEY WOULD HAVE PROBLEMS FIXING IT. I RECEIVED A LETTER FROM GMC APPROXIMATELY A YEAR AGO STATING THAT THERE WAS A RECALL TO THE FUEL GAUGE ON MY VEHICLE. I DIDN'T THINK ANYTHING OF IT SINCE I HAD NOT EXPERIENCED THE ISSUE AND THE LETTER STATED NOT TO TAKE IT TO THE DEALER UNLESS YOU CURRENTLY HAD THE PROBLEM. AS OF A WEEK AGO THE FUEL GAUGE STOPPED WORKING. I FUELED UP UNTIL THE TANK WAS FULL AND THE GAUGE READS AS IF THE TANK IS EMPTY AND THE LOW FUEL LIGHT IS ON. IN ADDITION THE SPEEDOMETER HAS IS HAVING ISSUES NOW AS WELL. IT STICKS AT HIGHWAY SPEED AND THEN JUST GOES TO ZERO AND STAYS THERE. APPROX 2 YRS AFTER PURCHASE, FILLED UP GAS TANK AND FUEL LIGHT SHOWED "LOW FUEL". WENT BACK UP TO FULL, DROPPED TO 1/2 AND BACK TO EMPTY. MY MECHANIC STOPPED THE CAR AND STARTED IT AGAIN AND THE OIL PRESSURE GAUGE RESET ITSELF BUT ONCE I STARTED TO DRIVE THE CAR AGAIN, THE OIL PRESSURE DROPPED. MY MECHANIC BELIEVES IT IS ANOTHER SENSOR PROBLEM LIKE THE FUEL SENSOR BUT IS NOT COMPLETELY SURE. I WAS GETTING MY TANK FILLED WITH GAS AND THE FUEL GAUGE NEEDLE PEGGED OUT PAST FULL, THEN BOUNCED DOWN TO EMPTY. IT DID THIS THREE TIMES THEN WENT BACK TO FULL. SINCE THEN IT HAS CONTINUED TO BOUNCE AROUND. THE ONLY WAY WE KNEW IF WE HAD ENOUGH GAS WAS TO FILL IT AND USE THE TRIP METER. THE FUEL GAUGE HAS CEASED TO MOVE AT ALL SINCE APRIL 2011. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT HAS BEEN ON CONTINUOUSLY AS WELL SINCE THE INCIDENT. I LOVE THE VEHICLE BUT IT IS A MAJOR PAIN TO KEEP TRACK OF THE FUEL WHEN 3 PEOPLE IN THE HOUSEHOLD RELY ON IT. I LOOKED ONLINE TO SEE IF THERE WAS A RECALL, ONLY TO LEARN THIS IS A COMMON COMPLAINT AND NOTHING IS BEING DONE ABOUT IT. I PRICED A NEW CLUSTER AND IT WAS OVER $500. THEY SAID THE GMC PARTS WERE A RIP-OFF AND EXPENSIVE, THEY WOULD HAVE TO USE GMC PARTS FOR THE FUEL GAUGE AND THEY QUOTED $408.00 (PLUS TAX) FOR THE REPAIR. ON AUGUST 30, I RECEIVED A WRITTEN NOTIFICATION FROM GMC STATING AN ISSUE WITH ENVOYS AND THE FUEL LEVEL SENSOR FAILURE PROBLEM; HOWEVER, GMC STATED THEY WOULD ONLY COVER 50% OF THE COST OF REPAIR. I PURCHASED THIS CAR USED WITH APPROXIMATELY 24,000 MILES IN 2006. WITHIN A YEAR OF PURCHASING THE CAR THE CLUSTER PANEL (GAUGES) STOPPED WORKING. UPON RESTARTING THE VEHICLE IN THE MORNING THE SPEEDOMETER STILL REGISTERED 20 MPH AND UPON ACCELERATION THE SPEEDOMETER FLUCTUATED FINALLY SETTLING AT 80MPH. WE WERE UNABLE TO TELL HOW FAST WE REALLY ARE TRAVELING BECAUSE THE SPEEDOMETER IS WACKO. STOPPING AND TURNING OFF THE VEHICLE DOES NOT HELP. THE SPEEDOMETER DOES NOT RESET TO ZERO IT IS NOW STUCK AT 80MPH. OUR LOCAL GM DEALER ADVISED THAT NO RECALL HAS BEEN ISSUED BUT AN EXTENDED WARRANTY TO 75,000 MILES WAS OFFERED ON THE VEHICLE FOR THIS PARTICULAR PROBLEM. I HAVE A 2005 GMC ENVOY. I HAVE HAD SEVERAL ISSUES WITH THE IGNITION SWITCH, THE FUEL GAUGE SENSOR, AND THE REAR HATCH. I HAVE REPLACED THE IGNITION SWITCH FOUR TIMES, PURCHASED A NEW BATTERY, AND A NEW STARTER, AS WELL AS A FUEL SENSOR. I STILL HAVE INTERMITTENT ISSUES WITH MY CAR NOT STARTING FOR NO APPARENT REASON AND STALLING OUT WHILE DRIVING AND ESPECIALLY WHEN DECELERATING. NOW, THE BATTERY GAUGE HAS BEGUN TO MALFUNCTION. THE BATTERY CHARGE RANGES FROM THE LOWEST TO THE HIGHEST WITH NO REAL RHYME OR REASON. IT IS APPARENT BY READING ON THE INTERNET FORUMS THAT THIS IS A MAJOR PRODUCT DEFECT AS IT HAPPENS TO MANY, MANY GMC OWNERS, ESPECIALLY 2002-2005 ENVOY OWNERS. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT KEPT COMING ON AND I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER FOR REPAIR AND WAS TOLD "IT'S OK. FORGET IT." ON 01-09-2009 WHILE TRAVELING ON TEXAS HIGHWAY 60, I HAD THE CRUISE CONTROL SET FOR 70 MPH. TRAFFIC WAS NORMAL BUT CONTINUALLY PASSED ME AS IF I WAS GOING SLOWER. I PULLED OVER AT A CONVENIENCE STORE AND PARKED THE VEHICLE. THE SPEEDOMETER REGISTERED 45 MPH IN PARK. I CONTINUED HOME GAUGING SPEED BY THE OTHER TRAFFIC. THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED. ON 01-14-2009, MY WIFE AND DAUGHTER WERE IN THE VEHICLE RETURNING FROM SCHOOL. THE SPEEDOMETER APPEARED TO BE WORKING. AT APPROXIMATELY 3:00 PM WHILE DRIVING HOME, THE ELECTRIC DOOR LOCKS BEGAN TO LOCK AND UNLOCK THEMSELVES. AT THE SAME TIME, THE A/C WENT TO MAXIMUM HEAT AND HIGH BLOWER. MY WIFE STOPPED THE VEHICLE AND PUT IT IN PARK. THE SIDE CURTAIN AIR BAGS DEPLOYED, STRIKING MY DAUGHTER IN THE LEFT TEMPLE RESULTING IN A MILD CONCUSSION. ONSTAR NOTIFIED THE POLICE OF A COLLISION. I CONTACTED THE DEALER WHO REFERRED ME TO GMC CUSTOMER ASSISTANCE. THE AGENT TOLD ME THAT THIS KIND OF THING HAPPENS WHEN TRAVELING TOO FAST AND TURNING TOO SHARP. AN INVESTIGATOR WAS DISPATCHED TO GATHER COMPUTER INFORMATION AND DETERMINE IF THERE HAD BEEN A COLLISION. HIS RESULTS WERE THERE WAS NO COLLISION AND THE BAGS DEPLOYED PER COMMAND FROM THE VEHICLE CONTROL SYSTEM BASED ON THE VEHICLE TRAVELING 20 MPH AND TURNING TOO SHARP. THE VEHICLE WAS ACTUALLY TRAVELING 20 MPH ON A RESIDENTIAL STREET IN A STRAIGHT LINE. TURNING RIGHT WOULD HAVE RESULTED IN GOING THROUGH A FENCE AND LEFT WOULD HAVE PUT THE VEHICLE IN A PARK. GMC REFUSED TO INVESTIGATE THE DISCREPANCIES BETWEEN THE COMPUTER AND THE DRIVER'S ACCOUNT FURTHER. I CONTACTED A LOCAL GM DEALER WHO HAS AS MUCH CONCERN ABOUT THIS INCIDENT AS I DO. I PURCHASED A 2005 GMC ENVOY IN SEPTEMBER 2005. IN THE PAST YEAR (SINCE JANUARY 2007, AT LEAST), I HAVE EXPERIENCED SEVERAL PROBLEMS WITH MY VEHICLE. THE FIRST PROBLEM IS WITH THE HEADLIGHTS. EVERYTIME I HAVE DRIVEN THE VEHICLE THE HEADLIGHTS APPEAR TO DIM/FLICKER AND THEN RETURN TO NORMAL. THIS HAS RESULTED IN ONCOMING VEHICLES TURNING THEIR BRIGHT LIGHTS ON ME THINKING MY BRIGHTS ARE ON WHEN IN REALITY MY HEADLIGHTS ARE DIMMING AND THEN RETURNING TO NORMAL. THE SECOND PROBLEM CONCERNS THE PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG. ANYTIME A CERTAIN WEIGHT LIMIT IS MET OR EXCEEDED THE AIRBAG SENSOR IS SUPPOSED TO SWITCH TO ON, BUT THERE HAVE BEEN SEVERAL OCCASIONS WHEN SOMEONE WAS SITTING IN THE PASSENGER SEAT AND THE AIRBAG SENSOR HASN'T RECOGNIZED IT. THIRD PROBLEM, DRIVER SIDE POWER SEAT FAILURE. THERE HAVE BEEN SEVERAL INSTANCES WHEN I HAVE TRIED TO MOVE THE DRIVER SEAT FORWARD, BUT NOTHING HAPPENED. THE MOTOR SOUNDED LIKE IT WAS GRINDING AND WANTED TO MOVE, BUT THE SEAT WOULD NOT MOVE FORWARD OR BACKWARD. THE MOST EXTREME PROBLEM TO DATE HAS BEEN WITH THE VEHICLE COMPLETELY SHUTTING OFF WITHOUT WARNING WHILE IN THE MIDDLE OF DRIVING AND THEN NOT STARTING OR EVEN TURNING OVER AT ALL. EVERY SINGLE DAY FOR, AT LEAST, THE LAST MONTH WHEN I GO TO START THE VEHICLE IT FAILS TO START AND IT TAKES A MINIMUM OF 1 HOUR TO GET IT STARTED. ONE INSTANCE IN PARTICULAR WHEN THE VEHICLE SHUT OFF WITHOUT WARNING WAS WHILE MY WIFE AND I WERE ON THE FREEWAY. WITHOUT WARNING THE VEHICLE SHUT DOWN AND WE WERE FORCED TO PULL ONTO THE SHOULDER. WE SAT THERE FOR ALMOST AN HOUR IN TEMPERATURES OF 13 DEGREES TRYING TO GET THE VEHICLE RESTARTED. THE FUEL NECK HAD BEEN REPLACED TWICE DUE TO A DESIGN CHANGE. THE SEAL AROUND THE LICENSES PLACE HOLDER CAME LOOSE AND HAD TO BE REPLACED. THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS SQUEAKING, THE CONTACT TOOK VEHICLE FOR SERVICE ON THREE OCCASIONS, AND REPLACED THE SERPENTINE BELT TWICE, AN AIRBAG SENSOR, THE REAR WIPER ARM, THE OXYGEN SENSOR TWICE ,THE FIRST TIME AT 7000 MILES. THERE WERE CRUISE CONTROL FAILURES, WHEN THE CONTACT TRIED TO ACCELERATE IT HESITATED AND THEN SURGED. THE WEATHER STRIPPING ON THE REAR DOORS HAS BEEN REPAIRED THREE TIMES. THE ABS WOULD SKIP ON A BUMPY ROAD AND WOULD NOT ENGAGE. AT ONE POINT THE CONTACT COULD SMELL FUEL IN THE PASSENGER COMPARTMENT AND VEHICLE HAD VERY POOR GAS MILEAGE, THE DEALER STATED THAT THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE VEHICLE, BUT AIR VALVE BECAME STUCK AND WOULD NOT CLOSE. THE REAR DOOR HINGES SQUEAKED. THIS WINTER IT WON'T GO TO FULL VOLTAGE UNTIL A MINUTE ELAPSED AFTER THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN STARTED. I HAVE AN '05 GMC ENVOY SLT. I'VE ONLY OWNED IT SIX MONTHS, SINCE NOV '05. I'VE DEALT WITH FLICKERING HEADLIGHTS AND DASH LIGHTS UNTIL JUST A COUPLE OF MONTHS AGO. I HAD THAT ISSUE LOOKED AT WHILE INSTALLING STEP RAILS. I WAS TOLD THIS WAS A TYPICAL ISSUE WITH ENVOYS AND THEY ONLY NEEDED TO 'TIGHTEN' SOME BOLTS. WHEN I INITIALLY MENTIONED THE PROBLEM I ALSO COMMENTED THAT I WOULD GET THE 'SHOCK' OF MY LIFE WHILE EXITING THE ENVOY AND ASKED IF IT COULD BE A GROUNDING ISSUE BUT THEY SAID NO. ANYWAY. THE PROBLEM WAS SOLVED FOR A FEW DAYS BUT IT STARTED ALL OVER AGAIN AND IT GETS WORSE AS TIME GOES ON. BEFORE I TOOK IT IN THE FIRST TIME IT WAS SO BAD I COULD FEEL THE ENGINE SURGE IN UNISON WITH THE FLICKERING OF THE HEADLIGHTS AND DASH LIGHTS. I FEEL THIS COULD BE AN EXTREME SAFETY ISSUE SINCE IT INVOLVES THE HEADLIGHTS AND IT MORE NOTICEABLE IN THE DARK HOURS. *JB
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING UPHILL AT NO PARTICULAR SPEED, THE ENGINE STALLS AND OPERATES AT A REDUCED SPEED. ADDITIONALLY, THE HEADLIGHTS INTERMITTENTLY WORK AT NIGHT AND THE GAS GAUGE PROVIDES AN INCORRECT DISPLAY OF THE PROPER FUEL LEVEL. ALTHOUGH THE VEHICLE WAS SEEN BY A DEALER NUMEROUS TIMES, THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. THE CONSUMER STATED THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM IS FAULTY. I WAS DRIVING HOME FROM WORK ENTERING THE FREEWAY ON RAMP. THE RAMP IS CONTROLLED BY A SIGNAL AND I WAS WAITING MY TURN WHEN THE ENGINE FAILED. I WAS COASTING DOWNHILL INTO ANOTHER CAR WHEN I HIT THE BRAKES AND THERE WERE NO BRAKES. I BUMPED THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME DAMAGING THE FRONT GRILL AND HOOD OF MY CAR. (2005 ENVOY) ABOUT 1 MONTH AGO I NOTICED THAT MY HEADLIGHTS WERE DIMMING WHILE DRIVING AT NIGHT . THIS HAPPENED SPORADICALLY. WHEN THE LIGHTS DIM, THE HEAT SLOWS DOWN AS WELL. THE INTERIOR LIGHTS OCCASIONALLY DIM WHEN THIS HAPPENS, TOO. MY HUSBAND AND I THOUGHT IT MIGHT BE THE BATTERY AND STARTED TO LOOK AT THE BATTERY GAGE, WHILE ONE OF US KEPT AN EYE ON THE LIGHTS. THIS PROBLEM HAS HAPPENED ABOUT 7 TIMES OVER THE LAST MONTH. LAST WEEK IT HAPPENED ABOUT EVERY 2 MINUTES WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD. VERY SCARY, AS I THOUGHT THE TRUCK WAS JUST GOING TO SHUT DOWN. I TOOK THE TRUCK TO MY GM DEALER AND THE MECHANIC SAID THAT THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE TRUCK. THE BATTERY, ALTERNATOR AND WIRES WERE FINE. HE STATED THAT WITH NEW VEHICLES AND EVERYTHING THAT IS RUN IN THEM THIS IS NORMAL. ALTHOUGH HE ALSO STATED THAT HE HAS NEVER SEEN THIS PROBLEM BEFORE. THEIR COMPUTER TOLD THEM THAT NOTHING NEEDED TO BE FIXED. WE HAVE NO AFTERMARKET PRODUCTS IN THE VEHICLE AND THE ONLY THINGS RUNNING WERE THE HEAT AND RADIO. *NM
ON THE NIGHT OF SATURDAY (AT 9 P.M.), DECEMBER 10, 2005, I DROVE MY GMC ENVOY SLT TO MICHAEL'S. WHEN DRIVING THROUGH THE PARKING LOT, MY DAUGHTER AND I HEARD A LOUD GRINDING NOISE FROM THE UNDERSIDE OF THE VEHICLE. WE PARKED THE CAR, TURNED OFF THE ENGINE, THEN TURNED THE VEHICLE ON AGAIN. SEVERAL ICONS THAT HAD NEVER BEEN DISPLAYED ON THE DASHBOARD SCREEN APPEARED, AND MY VEHICLE'S CLOCK REFLECTED 12:00. THE CLOCK WAS SET FOR THE CORRECT TIME INITIALLY, AND NEVER TAMPERED . WE SHOPPED FOR 20 MINUTES AND RETURNED TO THE VEHICLE, STARTED IT UP AND AGAIN SEVERAL ICONS APPEARED. THE CLOCK SAID 12:00 THOUGH IT WAS 9:30 P.M. WE DROVE THROUGH OUR NEIGHBORHOOD VIEWING SOME CHRISTMAS LIGHTS FOR ABOUT 10 MINUTES. AS I PULLED ONTO OUR DRIVEWAY AND BEGAN BREAKING TO STOP THE VEHICLE AND AND PARK IT OUTSIDE OF OUR GARAGE, IT DID NOT RESPOND TO BREAKING. WHEN I PUSHED THE BRAKE PEDAL DOWN HARDER, THE VEHICLE CONTINUED AT THE SAME SPEED. I SCREAMED THAT WE WERE GOING TO HIT THE GARAGE DOOR, AND AT THAT MOMENT FELT THE VEHICLE ACCELERATE ALTHOUGH I HAD THE BRAKE PEDAL PUSHED DOWN ALL THE WAY. IT SLAMMED THROUGH THE GARAGE DOOR, I QUICKLY SHIFTED INTO PARK AND SHUT OFF THE ENGINE. MY FRONT AND MY DAUGHTER'S FRONT PASSENGER DOOR COULD NOT BE OPENED AND WE SMELLED GAS. MY HUSBAND CALLED 911 AND EMERGENCY VEHICLES RESPONDED. THEY DETERMINED IT SHOULD BE SAFE BUT ASKED THE FURNACE BE TURNED DOWN SO THAT IT WOULD NOT CAUSE ANY COMBUSTION AND TO KEEP THE AREA VENTILATED.. THE GARAGE DOOR WAS TOTALLY DEMOLISHED, AND DRYWALL DAMAGES IN SEVERAL SPOTS. A TECHNICIAN FROM OVERHEAD GARAGE DOORS REMOVED THE REMNANTS OF THE DOOR. MY DAUGHTER'S CAR HAD MINOR PAINT AND DENT DAMAGE AS IT WAS IN THE GARAGE ALREADY. GM'S ROADSIDE TOWING HAULED THE ENVOY ONTO A FLATBED TO TAKE TO THE DEALERSHIP. WE EXPLAINED THE ACCIDENT TO GM WHEN WE CONTACTED THEM FOR ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE. THE VEHICLE IS NOW AT OUR DEALERSHIP, ANDY MOHR, NOBLESVILLE, IN. *NM

DT: CONSUMER OWNS A '05 GMC ENVOY AND HAS DIFFICULTY TOWING A TRAILER WITHIN GM RATES, GM STATES THAT HIS ENVOY CAN TOW A WEIGHT OF 5,800 POUND CAPACITY, HOWEVER HE FEELS THE VEHICLE IS UNABLE TO MANEUVER A TRAVEL TRAILER OF 3,400 POUND CAPACITY. THE CONSUMER HAS BEEN TO THE DEALERSHIP TWICE FOR THIS. THE DEALER STATED THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO. CONSUMER HAS PULLED THE TRAILER WITH OTHER VEHICLES AND IT PULLS FINE BUT WHEN ATTACHED TO THE ENVOY THERE IS A PROBLEM. CONSUMER FEELS IT IS NOT WITH THE SUSPENSION OF THE VEHICLE BUT WITHIN THE ENGINE WHICH IS A V6. WHEN PULLING TRAILER FOR A DISTANCE AS LITTLE AS 2 MILES THE ENGINE HEATS UP, AND HE EXPERIENCES A LOSS OF SPEED AND ENGINE THE BOGS DOWN TO 30 MPH. ENVOY IS EQUIPPED WITH THE 373 AXLE RATIO AND CAN NOT PULL AN ENCLOSED 24FT TRAVEL TRAILER ON IT'S 6 CYLINDER ENGINE. THE 2ND TRIP TO DEALER, THE SERVICE MANAGER DID DUPLICATE THIS PROBLEM AND SUGGESTED THE CONSUMER NEEDED A V8 ENGINE. ALSO, THERE IS A ELECTRICAL PROBLEM THAT ONLY OCCURS WHEN THE ENGINE IS RUNNING. CONSUMER GAVE EXAMPLES OF AUTOMATIC DOOR LOCKS UNLOCKING BY THEMSELVES AND THE ANTI THEFT SYSTEM ENABLING ITSELF RESULTING IN A SHUTDOWN OF THE VEHICLE. TOOK TO DEALER 10 TIMES FOR THIS PROBLEM. DEALER COULD NOT DUPLICATE PROBLEMS. THE DEALER SAID GM WOULD NOT AUTHORIZE REPAIR UNLESS THEY COULD DUPLICATE PROBLEM. HAS CONTACTED GM CUSTOMER SERVICE AT LEAST 100 TIMES FOR THESE ISSUES WITHOUT ANY LUCK. NO REPAIRS OR CORRECTIONS AS A RESULT. CONSUMER IS STILL EXPERIENCING THESE PROBLEMS AS A RESULT. *JB
