DIM LIGHTS ARE FLICKERING NOT WANTING TO STAY ON

ABOUT 4 YEARS I NOTICED MY LOW BEAM HEADLIGHTS SOMETIMES WOULD NOT WORK AT NIGHT, FORCING ME TO DRIVE WITH MY HIGH BEAMS ON, BLINDING OTHER MOTORISTS. THIS WAS REPORTED TO THE DEALER'S SERVICE MANAGER AND HE SAID IT MAY COST $500 TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE. I COULD NOT AFFORD THIS EXPENDITURE. I TRY TO AVOID DRIVING AT NIGHT AND ONLY RECENTLY I HAD TO DRIVE AT NIGHT AND AGAIN MY LOW BEAMS WOULD NOT WORK, FORCING ME TO AGAIN DRIVE WITH MY HIGH BEAMS ON. MY FIANC DID A GOOGLE SEARCH AND LEARNED THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THIS FUSE/RELAY. WE LEARNED WE COULD PULL OUT THE HIGH BEAM FUSE/RELAY WHICH IS IDENTICAL TO THE LOW BEAM AND SWITCH THEM. UPON DOING SO, THE LOW BEAMS ONCE AGAIN WORKED.

A WHILE BACK, WE NOTICED WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE INTERSTATE AT NIGHT THAT OUR LIGHTS SEEMED TO BE FLICKERING (LOW BEAMS). IT WOULD DO IT OCCASIONALLY, BUT WE NEVER KNEW WHEN IT WOULD HAPPEN. SINCE THEN, WE HAVE HAD THE LIGHTS GO COMPLETELY OUT WHILE DRIVING, AND HAD TO TURN THE FOG LAMPS ON TO HAVE HEADLIGHTS OF ANY SORT. TONIGHT, THE LIGHTS WENT OUT, AND I PULLED INTO MY DRIVEWAY AND WAS GOING TO HAVE MY HUSBAND COME OUT AND SEE WHAT WAS GOING ON IF HE COULD. WHILE I SAT THERE WITH THE CAR RUNNING AND IN PARK, AFTER ABOUT 3 MINUTES, THEY CAME BACK ON. I HAVE READ THAT THERE WAS A RECALL ON THE LIGHT MODULAR FOR 2006+ ENVOYS, BUT MINE IS A 2005, AND HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM THAT I HEARD THE RECALL WAS FOR. I HAVE ALSO HEARD THAT THE 2005 TRAILBLAZERS WERE INCLUDED IN THE RECALL, BUT NOT THE ENVOYS????

THE LOW BEAM HEADLIGHTS WENT OUT WHILE DRIVING 50MPH ON A HIGHWAY BECAUSE A RELAY IN THE FUSE BOX OVERHEATED AND MELTED THE FUSE BOX. I KNOW THERE IS ALREADY A RECALL ON THE TRAILBLAZER FROM THE SAME YEAR BECAUSE THEY ARE THE SAME CAR BUT THERE IS NOT ONE FOR THE ENVOY.

THIS IS THE SAME GM PART THAT IS BEING RECALLED IN OTHER GM VEHICLES. GM PART # 15016745. SO WHY HAS IT NOT BEEN RECALLED IN 05 . ON ONE OCCASION WHILE DRIVING ON A TWO LANE HIGHWAY AY NIGHT THE LIGHTS WENT OUT COMPLETELY FOR A FEW SECONDS. I WAS SO SCARED WSS REALLY GLAD FOR NO ONE BEHIND ME OR ON COMING TRAFFIC. ON ANOTHER OCCASSION I HAD TO PULL OVER ON CITY STREET AS MY LIGHTS WERE GOING ON AND OFF AND I COULD SEE THE CAR AHEAD WAS A COP AND I DIDNT WANT HIM TO THINK I WAS FLASHING FOR HELP ESPECIALLY AT 2 IN THE MORNING. IVE ALSO HAD TO EXIT THE FREEWAY BECAUSE MY LIGHTS STARTED GOING ON AND OFF AND ON AND WASNT SURE IF THEY WOULD JUST GO OUT COMPLETELY WHILE I WAS DRIVING AND SINCE IT WAS NIGHT TIME I DIDNT WANT TO TAKE THE CHANCE OF CAUSING AN ACCIDENT AND HURTING SOMEONE ELSE OR MYSELF. READING NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS THAT COMPARE TO MINE THE FUEL GAUGE, OIL GAUGES, AIR CONDITIONER ARE ALL MALFUNCTIONING IN MY CAR AND I'M VERY UPSET BECAUSE ALL OF THIS SHOULD HAVE BEEN RECALLED. I PURCHASED MY CAR BRAND NEW IN 2005 AND I WILL NEVER BUY A GMC CAR AGAIN FOR THIS REASON IT'S ONE THING TO RECALL REPAIR PARTS THAT WERE BROKEN THAT TO REPAIR MALFUNCTION PARTS. VERY DISAPPOINTED. IN SHORT MY GAUGES DON'T WORK, MY AIR CONDITIONER ONLY WORKS ON ONE SIDE AND NOW MY HEADLIGHTS LOW BEAN DON'T WORK. GMC NEEDS TO RECALL AND REPAIR.

I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY AFTER DARK AND MY LOW BEAMS COMPLETELY WENT OUT. I COULD ONLY GET MY HIGH BEAMS TO WORK. CURRENTLY ONLY ONE LOW BEAM IS WORKING AND THE OTHER WILL NOT WORK EVEN AFTER CHANGING THE BULB OR THE FUSE. I BELIEVE THIS IS A HUGE SAFETY CONCERN ESPECIALLY HAVING A YOUNG CHILD. IT WAS VERY SCARY GOING DOWN THE ROAD AT NIGHT AND HAVE YOUR LIGHTS COMPLETELY JUST GO OUT. I HAVE NOTICED THAT THERE ARE ISSUES WITH 06-07 ENVOYS BUT I WANTED GM TO BE MADE AWARE THAT 2005 MODELS HAVE BEEN AFFECTED AS WELL.

MY LIGHTS ARE AUTOMATIC AND I JUST ASSUMED THAT I HAD BUMPED A BUTTON AND ACCIDENTALLY TURNED THEM OFF, SO I STARTED TURNING THE SWITCH TO TURN THEM ON AND IT WASN'T WORKING. I ALMOST DROVE OFF THE ROAD SEVERAL TIMES TRYING TO GET SOME LIGHT ON. I THEN HIT A SECTION WHERE TREE LINED CURVED SECTION THAT WAS PRETTY DARK. THERE HAD BEEN NO SHOULDER OR ANYWHERE TO PULL OVER THERE OR FOR SEVERAL MILES. I COULD GET BIGHTS LIGHTS, BUT NO DIM. I ENDED UP DRIVING WITH MY FOG LIGHTS, UNKNOWINGLY AT THE TIME. WE HAD JUST REPLACE THE BULBS 5 MONTHS BEFORE BUT WE TRIED NEW BULBS AND FUSES TO SEE IF THIS WOULD FIX THE PROBLEM. UNFORTUNATELY, IT DIDN'T. AS I WAS DRIVING THE VEHICLE, THE DASHBOARD LIT UP AND THE ODOMETER AND ALL THE INFORMATION SYSTEMS WENT TO ZERO. THIS HAS HAPPENED OFTEN OVER THE YEARS. I TOOK IT TO TWO GMC CAR DEALERSHIPS AND THE FIRST ONE SAID IT WAS THE KILL SWITCH INSTALLED BY A BUY HERE PAY HERE DEALERSHIP. THE KILL SWITCH WAS REMOVED AND THE DASHBOARD CONTINUED TO FLICKER. THEN THE CAR WOULD NOT START, I TOOK IT TO ANOTHER DEALERSHIP AND WAS TOLD THEY COULDN'T FIND ANYTHING. THE CAR BEGAN TO TRIBBLE, AGAIN I TOOK IT IN AND WAS TOLD THAT I NEEDED TO CLEAN THE FUEL INJECTION SYSTEM. I DID THAT AND BOUGHT A BATTERY BUT THAT DIDN'T HELP. THE TOW DRIVER SAID IT SEEMS TO BE SOMETHING ELECTRICAL BUT THE CAR DEALERSHIP CAN'T FIND A SOLUTION. HAVE YOU HAD THIS COMPLAINT BEFORE? NOT TO CONFUSE THE COMPLAINT, I HAVE SEVERAL ISSUES. 1. TURNED ALL POWER DRAW OFF EXCEPT MY LOW BEAMS. NEEDLE KEPT SWINGING AND LIGHTS KEPT FLASHING. WAS 6 MILES FROM HOME. I MADE IT. THERE WAS A DISCHARGE TO MY SYSTEM INSTEAD OF CONTINUEING TO CHARGE. TOOK TO DEALER. NOTHING FOUND. 11-6-2012 IT HAPPENED AGAIN. HAS HAPPENED INBETWEEN ALSO. VERY INTERMITTANT. HAD BATTTERY & ALTERNATOR CHECKED AT LEAST 3 TIMES. ALWAYS GOOD. AFTER INCIDENTS, WORKS FINE UNTIL NEXT TIME. NEVER HAPPENED IN SUMMER. ALWAYS WHEN COOLER WEATHER. NOW THAT IT IS DECEMBER, AFRAID TO DRIVE AFTER DARK. THERE MUST A BULLENTIN OR RECALL??? SPORADIC FAILURE OF SPEEDOMETER - REGISTERS CORRECTLY ONE MOMENT, OR MAY READ 30 MPH OR 0 MPG WHEN KEEPING WITH THE FLOW OF TRAFFIC ON THE INTERSTATE. WHILE THIS DOES NOT OCCUR EACH TRIP, IT DOES OCCUR SEVERAL TIMES EACH WEEK. FUEL GAUGE MALFUNCTION - READS ONE-HALF TANK AT 179 MILES; 20 MILES LATER READS ONE-QUARTER TANK. ISSUES "FUEL LEVEL LOW" WARNING AFTER REFUELING AND FOR NEXT 3 TO 4 TIMES VEHICLE IS STARTED HEADLIGHTS DIM BRIEFLY WHEN ACCELERATOR IS RELEASED. FREQUENT NEED TO REPLACE EXTERIOR LAMPS THE PROBLEMS FIRST MANIFEST IN THE NEED TO REPEATEDLY CHANGE BRAKE AND TAILLIGHT BULBS, AND THE DIMMING OF THE HEADLIGHTS, WHICH CONTINUES. THEN, SPORADICALLY, THE SPEEDOMETER STOPPED FUNCTIONING, OR ONLY REGISTERED A FRACTION OF THE SPEED THE VEHICLE WAS TRAVELING. AFTER THAT, AT START UP, THE "FUEL LEVEL LOW" WARNING, WHICH ACTIVATES WHEN THE VEHICLE DETERMINES IT HAS FUEL TO TRAVEL 40 ADDITIONAL MILES, STARTED TO CHIME WHEN THERE WAS MORE THAN ONE-HALF TANK OF FUEL. THE WARNING ALSO NOW ISSUES WHENEVER THE VEHICLE IS REFUELED. THE POTENTIAL FAILURE OF THE EXTERIOR LIGHTING SYSTEM PRESENTS A CLEAR HAZARD TO THE OCCUPANTS OF THE VEHICLE AND OTHERS - THE DRIVER WOULDN'T BE ABLE TO SEE WHERE HE IS GOING, AND OTHER DRIVERS WOULDN'T BE ABLE TO SEE THE VEHICLE HEADING TOWARD THEM. THE FUEL SYSTEM ISSUES COULD LEAD TO UNEXPECTEDLY RUNNING OUT OF FUEL, CREATING THE POTENTIAL FOR A DISABLED VEHICLE OR ITS DRIVER BEING HIT BY ANOTHER. IN ADDITION, DEPENDING ON THE CAUSE OF THE MALFUNCTION, THE VEHICLE COULD BE SUSCEPTIBLE TO FIRE. WITHOUT A FUNCTIONING SPEEDOMETER, THE DRIVER CAN EASILY TRAVEL TOO FAST FOR CONDITIONS, OR ENDANGER HIMSELF AND OTHERS IN A CONSTRUCTION ZONE. CAR SWITCHES INTO ALL 4W AND HIGHER BY ITSELF. I HAD BEEN TO A DEALERSHIP 3 TIMES IN ONE YEAR FOR WHICH THEY WERE UNABLE TO FIND THE PROBLEM. NOW MY WARRANTY IS UP. AFTER THAT I TOOK IT TO A TRANSMISSION SHOP WHERE THEY SUPPOSEDLY FIXED THE PROBLEM FOR OVER 800.$ A WEEK LATER IT DID IT AGAIN. NOW I HAVE THE 4WD DISCONNECTED FOR SAFETY REASONS. I WOULD BE DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY AT 60-75 MPH AND IF WOULD SWITCH AND NOT COME OUT NO MATTER WHAT I DO. I HAVE OWNED THIS VEHICLE FOR ALMOST 5 YEARS AND IT HAS DONE THIS THE WHOLE TIME. I AM A SINGLE MOM AND I DRIVE MY 17 AND 7 YEAR OLD AROUND IN THIS CAR. EVEN WITH IT DISCONNECTED IT STILL TRIES TO SWITCH. THERE IS NO SPECIFIC TIME, TEMPERATURE, OR OTHER REASON THIS HAPPENS. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 GMC ENVOY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT HE WAS EXPERIENCING ISSUES WITH THE HEADLIGHTS. WHEN HIS WIFE WOULD DRIVE THE VEHICLE AT 50 MPH, THE HEADLIGHTS WOULD GET DIMMER AND DIMMER AND THEN BRIGHTEN AGAIN. ON ONE OCCASION, THE LIGHTS TURNED OFF COMPLETELY AND HIS WIFE HAD TO DRIVE HOME WITH THE HAZARD LIGHTS FLASHING. THE ISSUE OCCURRED INTERMITTENTLY. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER AT LEAST FOUR TIMES AND THEY CHANGED THE SWITCHES AND RECALIBRATED THE LIGHTS. THE REPAIRS CAUSED OTHER FAILURES; THEREFORE, THEY RECALIBRATED TO THE ORIGINAL LIGHTS. THE DEALER STATED THAT THERE WAS NO REMEDY FOR THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THEY WOULD START A CASE FOR HIM AND CALL HIM BACK. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 41,000 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 23,000. I PURCHASED A 2005 GMC ENVOY IN SEPTEMBER 2005. IN THE PAST YEAR (SINCE JANUARY 2007, AT LEAST), I HAVE EXPERIENCED SEVERAL PROBLEMS WITH MY VEHICLE. THE FIRST PROBLEM IS WITH THE HEADLIGHTS. EVERYTIME I HAVE DRIVEN THE VEHICLE THE HEADLIGHTS APPEAR TO DIM/FLICKER AND THEN RETURN TO NORMAL. THIS HAS RESULTED IN ONCOMING VEHICLES TURNING THEIR BRIGHT LIGHTS ON ME THINKING MY BRIGHTS ARE ON WHEN IN REALITY MY HEADLIGHTS ARE DIMMING AND THEN RETURNING TO NORMAL. THE SECOND PROBLEM CONCERNS THE PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG. ANYTIME A CERTAIN WEIGHT LIMIT IS MET OR EXCEEDED THE AIRBAG SENSOR IS SUPPOSED TO SWITCH TO ON, BUT THERE HAVE BEEN SEVERAL OCCASIONS WHEN SOMEONE WAS SITTING IN THE PASSENGER SEAT AND THE AIRBAG SENSOR HASN'T RECOGNIZED IT. THIRD PROBLEM, DRIVER SIDE POWER SEAT FAILURE. THERE HAVE BEEN SEVERAL INSTANCES WHEN I HAVE TRIED TO MOVE THE DRIVER SEAT FORWARD, BUT NOTHING HAPPENED. THE MOTOR SOUNDED LIKE IT WAS GRINDING AND WANTED TO MOVE, BUT THE SEAT WOULD NOT MOVE FORWARD OR BACKWARD. THE MOST EXTREME PROBLEM TO DATE HAS BEEN WITH THE VEHICLE COMPLETELY SHUTTING OFF WITHOUT WARNING WHILE IN THE MIDDLE OF DRIVING AND THEN NOT STARTING OR EVEN TURNING OVER AT ALL. EVERY SINGLE DAY FOR, AT LEAST, THE LAST MONTH WHEN I GO TO START THE VEHICLE IT FAILS TO START AND IT TAKES A MINIMUM OF 1 HOUR TO GET IT STARTED. ONE INSTANCE IN PARTICULAR WHEN THE VEHICLE SHUT OFF WITHOUT WARNING WAS WHILE MY WIFE AND I WERE ON THE FREEWAY. WITHOUT WARNING THE VEHICLE SHUT DOWN AND WE WERE FORCED TO PULL ONTO THE SHOULDER. WE SAT THERE FOR ALMOST AN HOUR IN TEMPERATURES OF 13 DEGREES TRYING TO GET THE VEHICLE RESTARTED. THERE HAVE BEEN COUNTLESS COMPLAINTS AND REPORTS OF OTHER ENVOY OWNERS EXPERIENCING THESE SAME PROBLEMS. SOME DEALERS HAVE ACTUALLY SAID THAT THESE FAILURES/PROBLEMS ARE NORMAL!!!! WHAT!?!?! THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING BEHIND A POLICE OFFICER, AND WHEN ATTEMPTING TO DECELERATE, THE HIGH BEAMS STARTED BLINKING. THE OFFICER STOPPED HIM AND STATED THAT IT WAS A SAFETY PROBLEM. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO DEALER FOR REPAIR, BUT WAS UNABLE TO PERFORM REPAIRS. AFTER THE VEHICLE LEFT THE SHOP THE FAILURE OCCURRED AT 50 MPH. THE MECHANIC PERFORMED A DIAGNOSTIC, AND FOUND NO FAILURES. THE GMC TECHNICAL SUPPORT REPRESENTATIVE STATED THAT THEY WERE AWARE OF THE FAILURE, BUT DID NOT KNOW HOW TO PERFORM THE REPAIRS.
