FUEL SENSORS AFFECTING PROPER READ OUT ON FUEL GAUGE. WINDOW AN DOOR LOCK SWITCHES ON DRIVER SIDE DOOR DOES NOT WORK PROPERLY. WORKS WHEN IT WANTS TO. FINDINGS BY AAA: ABS BAD HAD TO BE REPLACED 1056$ AND REALIGNMENT. 2. EXHAUST MANIFOLD AND PIPE REPLACEMENT 400. AT LEES THAN 1/4 TANK OF FUEL THE GAS GAUGE IS CLOSE, AFTER REFUELING, THE FUEL GAUGE GOES WAY PAST FULL AND WILL STAY LIKE THAT UNTIL FUEL IS BELOW 1/4 TANK. LAST TIME THE TRUCK TOOK 19.85 GALLONS IN A 20 GALLON TANK UNTIL IT STARTED WORKING CORRECTLY AGAIN. ONE TANK IT WORKED FINE AND NEXT FILL UP IT WAS WAY BEYOND FULL AGAIN. AT THE SAME TIME WHEN FUEL GAUGE IS WRONG, THE SPEEDOMETER WILL BE OFF. MANY TIMES FREEZING AT 35MPH WHILE TRAVELING 65MPH. AFTER MANY RESETS OF IGNITION, THE SPEEDOMETER WILL COME BACK. ALSO WHEN ALL OF THIS IS HAPPENING WITH THE SPEEDOMETER AND FUEL GAUGE, THE RADIO HAS NO AUDIO. EVERY NOW AND AGAIN, THE RADIO WILL COME BACK AND WORK ON ONE SPEAKER. MOST OF THE TIME IT IS OUT. SEEMS THAT THE FUEL GAUGE READS EMPTY EVEN AFTER I FILL IT UP. IT WILL CHIME, ILLUMINATE THE LOW FUEL LIGHT AND READ --- FOR RANGE LEFT TILL EMPTY. THIS HAS BEEN A KNOWN ISSUE. AFTER YOU DRIVE AND USE ABOUT 5 GALLONS IT WILL THEN GO FROM F TO E EVERY FEW MINUTES AND THEN THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON WITH CODE P0463. THIS HAS BEEN A KNOWN ISSUE. GM STATED THAT THEY DID SEND OUT AT ONE TIME A OFFER TO PAY HALF OF THE ASSOCIATED COST IF WE CHOSE TO FIX THIS AND IT WAS ONLY AVAILABLE FOR A SHORT TIME. I WAS DEPLOYED OVERSEAS AT THE TIME SO I NEVER GOT THAT MAIL AND I WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN ABLE TO DO ANYTHING AT THAT POINT IN TIME ANYWAY, HOWEVER THEY COULD HAVE ALLOWED ME TO DO IT UPON MY RETURN, NOPE!!! THEY SAID THAT THERE IS NOTHING THAT CAN BE DONE NOW, AND IT IS VIEWED ON A CASE BY CASE BASIS. THEY TOLD ME TO SEE THEIR LIAISON AT MY LOCAL DEALERSHIP, HE WILL THEN CALL THE GM REP. IT HAS NOW BEEN OVER A WEEK AND STILL NO REPLY. WHEN I CALLED GM BACK ON MY OWN, IT SEEMS THEY CLOSED MY CASE BUT DID NOT HAVE A REASON WHY IT WAS CLOSED AND I WAS PLACED FROM ONE SUPERVISOR TO ANOTHER. I HAVE REPAIRED OR REPLACED SO MANY THING ON THIS SUV IN EXCESS OF 7K ALREADY ITS NOT FUNNY.( POWER PEDAL RELAY, AND MODULE, SELF LEVELING SUSPENSION, AC CONTROL HEAD, FAN CLUTCH MOTOR, AC ACCUMULATOR, ENTIRE FUSE BLOCK, ENTIRE SHORT BLOCK OF ENGINE AND HALF THE TOP END.)NOW THE HEAT AND AC SYSTEM ARE GIVING ME ISSUES WITH THE ACTUATOR DOOR AS WELL AS THE CONTROL BOX WHERE NO AIR COMES THRU THE DASH VENTS ONLY THE FLOOR AND GMC STATED THAT IS A KNOWN PROBLEM THAT HAS AFFECTED MANY BUT THAT THERE IS NO RECALL ON THAT EITHER. MY PERSONAL SITUATION ONLY APPLIES THE 10 YEARS. *TR I TALK TO GMS AND GMC IN TURN SAYS I HAVE DEAL WITH THE LOCAL DEALER AND LOCAL DEALER SAYS GMC MUST AUTHORIZED THE REPAIR. I FURTHER INVESTIGATE THE ISSUE THAT THERE ARE MANY SIMILAR SITUATIONS AND GMC KNOWS THAT IT'S A DEFECTIVE PART. I THINK IT IS IN DANGER IF I FORGET TO GAS UP MY CAR.

ALTHOUGH THIS DOESN'T APPEAR TO BE A SAFETY ISSUE PER SE, ITS A MANUFACTURING DEFECT WITH THE VEHICLE THAT GMC HAS RECOGNIZED HOWEVER THEY CONTINUE TO PUT STIPULATIONS AROUND VEHICLES THAT HAVE THIS ISSUE THAT THEY ARE WILLING TO FIX. FOR EXAMPLE, THE VEHICLE MUST BE UNDER 10YRS OF AGE OR UNDER 120,000 MILES WHICHEVER COMES FIRST. THIS IS RIDICULOUS. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 GMC ENVOY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHEN DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE FUEL LEVEL GAUGE WOULD FLUCTUATE ABNORMALLY AND THE CONTACT WAS UNAWARE OF THE EXACT LEVEL OF GASOLINE IN THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT ALSO NOTICED THAT THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING LIGHT WAS ILLUMINATED FOR SOME TIME. IN ADDITION, THE SPEEDOMETER ALSO FAILED. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN INSPECTED BY A DEALER OR AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT THEY WOULD COVER FIFTY PERCENT OF THE REPAIR COSTS. I RECEIVED A LETTER FROM GMC APPROXIMATELY A YEAR AGO STATING THAT THERE WAS A RECALL TO THE FUEL GAUGE ON MY VEHICLE. I DIDN'T THINK ANYTHING OF IT SINCE I HAD NOT EXPERIENCED THE ISSUE AND THE LETTER STATED NOT TO TAKE IT TO THE DEALER UNLESS YOU CURRENTLY HAD THE PROBLEM. AS OF A WEEK AGO THE FUEL GAUGE STOPPED WORKING. I FUELED UP UNTIL THE TANK WAS FULL AND THE GAUGE READS AS IF THE TANK IS EMPTY AND THE LOW FUEL LIGHT IS ON. IN ADDITION THE SPEEDOMETER HAS IS HAVING ISSUES NOW AS WELL. IT STICKS AT HIGHWAY SPEED AND THEN JUST GOES TO ZERO AND STAYS THERE. IF IT WEREN'T FOR MY GPS I WOULD HAVE NO CLUE WHAT RATE OF SPEED I AM TRAVELING. I HAVE CONTACTED GMC CUSTOMER SERVICE AS WELL AS THE DEALERSHIP AND THE REPAIR FOR THE FUEL GAUGE WILL COST ME $240 WITH GMC PAYING THE OTHER HALF. IT SEEMS TO ME THAT THEY WERE AWARE THAT THERE WAS AN ISSUE BEFORE I DID SO WHY AM I NOW STUCK WITH THE REPAIR BILLS? WHY WAS THIS NOT FIXED BEFORE THE VEHICLE WAS SOLD TO ME SINCE I PURCHASED IT USED FROM THE DEALERSHIP? SOMETHING SHOULD BE DONE ABOUT THIS.I SHOULD NOT BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE FOR GMC'S ERRORS! IN ADDITION THERE ARE RECALLS ON THE OTHER GMC MODELS FOR THE CLUSTER GAUGE THAT AFFECTS THE SPEEDOMETER. THE ENVOY WAS NOT INCLUDED BECAUSE THERE WERE NOT A SUFFICIENT NUMBER OF COMPLAINTS. DEFECTIVE FUEL PUMP/FUEL SENSOR/ELECTRONIC GAS GAUGE; FLICKERING/DIMMING HEADLIGHTS; FREEZING/INABILITY TO CONTROL DRIVER'S SIDE SEAT AND CONTROLS. 1/4 OF FRONT INSTRUMENT PANEL LIGHTS OUT; DRIVERS SIDE SEAT CONTROL LIGHTING 1/4 OUT; CHECK ENGINE LIGHT AND LOW FUEL LIGHT ON CONTINUOUSLY SINCE 1997. TIE RODS BOTH REPLACED AS WELL AS BOTH FRONT SWAY BARS. IMMEDIATELY FOLLOWING VEHICLE PURCHASE, CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WOULD CONTINUOUSLY GO OFF. I WOULD CALL ONSTAR AT WHICH POINT I WAS TOLD TO TAKE CAR IN FOR REPAIR W/I 7-10 DAYS (OFTEN TOLD A PROBLEM W/POWERTRAIN OR TRANSMISSION) . AT DEALERS SERVICE DEPT, TOLD OVER AND OVER AGAIN AFTER TONS OF WORRY, CONCERN AND TIME SPENT, THAT ELECTRICAL SYSTEM ON THIS CAR TENDS TO TRIP/TRIGGER CHECK ENGINE LIGHT AND THEY WOULD JUST RESET IT SO AFTER AWHILE, I BEGAN TO DISREGARD THE LIGHT AS I WAS IN THE DEALERSHIP ALMOST WEEKLY. APPROX 2 YRS AFTER PURCHASE, FILLED UP GAS TANK AND FUEL LIGHT SHOWED "LOW FUEL". WENT BACK UP TO FULL, DROPPED TO 1/2 AND BACK TO EMPTY. WENT BACK TO FULL AFTER CAR WAS TURNED OFF AND CONTINUED TO DO THIS. AFTER ABOUT 2 WEEKS, CONSTANTLY STAYS AT EMPTY. CALLED REPAIR SHOP AND WAS TOLD APPROX $700-800 TO DROP TANK AND REPLACE FUEL SENSOR WHICH I COULD NOT AFFORD AND BEGAN TO TRACK ODOMETER AND REFILL TANK AFTER 200 MILES DRIVEN AFTER FILL UP. HAVE BEEN DOING THIS FOR 5 YEARS. JAN 29,2011, I GO FOR EMISSION TEST. FAIL D/T LOW FUEL AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHT BEING ON. GO TO MECHANIC, APPROX $950 REPAIR. I HAVE HAD A PROBLEM IN THE PAST WITH THE FUEL GAUGE READING EMPTY CONTINUOUSLY AS I HAVE READ FROM MANY OTHER COMPLAINTS. RECENTLY I EXPERIENCED A PROBLEM WITH THE OIL PRESSURE GAUGE. AT FIRST THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT APPEARED INTERMITTENTLY AND THEN THE OIL PRESSURE GAUGE DROPPED TO ZERO, AT WHICH TIME THE MESSAGE IN ON THE LCD READING SAID "STOP ENGINE" AND "OIL PRESSURE LOW". I IMMEDIATELY WENT TO MY GAS STATION AND CHECKED THE OIL, WHICH WAS ONLY DOWN A 1/4 TANK. MY MECHANIC STOPPED THE CAR AND STARTED IT AGAIN AND THE OIL PRESSURE GAUGE RESET ITSELF BUT ONCE I STARTED TO DRIVE THE CAR AGAIN, THE OIL PRESSURE DROPPED. MY MECHANIC BELIEVES IT IS ANOTHER SENSOR PROBLEM LIKE THE FUEL SENSOR BUT IS NOT COMPLETELY SURE. I ONLY STARTED WITH THIS ISSUE TODAY BUT IT IS MORE WORRISOME TO ME THAN KEEPING TRACK OF HOW MUCH GAS SHOULD BE IN MY TANK. I AM CURIOUS TO KNOW IF OTHERS HAVE STARTED TO EXPERIENCE THIS PROBLEM. I WAS GETTING MY TANK FILLED WITH GAS AND THE FUEL GAUGE NEEDLE PEGGED OUT PAST FULL, THEN BOUNCED DOWN TO EMPTY. IT DID THIS THREE TIMES THEN WENT BACK TO FULL. SINCE THEN IT HAS CONTINUED TO BOUNCE AROUND. THE ONLY WAY WE KNEW IF WE HAD ENOUGH GAS WAS TO FILL IT AND USE THE TRIP METER. THE FUEL GAUGE HAS CEASED TO MOVE AT ALL SINCE APRIL 2011. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT HAS BEEN ON CONTINUOUSLY AS WELL SINCE THE INCIDENT. I LOVE THE VEHICLE BUT IT IS A MAJOR PAIN TO KEEP TRACK OF THE FUEL WHEN 3 PEOPLE IN THE HOUSEHOLD RELY ON IT. INSTRUMENT PANEL FUEL LEVEL INDICATOR SHOWS INCORRECTLY. AT FIRST IT WOULD SHOW HALF TANK OR MORE WHEN IN FACT THERE WAS LESS GAS. NOW THE FUEL LEVEL INDICATOR SHOWS EMPTY AT ALL TIMES. I NOTICED THAT WHEN I FILLED UP THE TANK THE LIGHT CAME ON AS IF THE TANK WAS EMPTY. I ACTUALLY STOPPED WHEN I WAS PULLING OUT OF THE GAS STATION AND LOOKED AT MY RECEIPT AND QUESTIONED THE ATTENDANT. THE TANK WAS FULL. NEXT, I DECIDED TO BUY AN ENVOY SLT V6 2005 WITH 27KMILES IN 2008, WHICH I HAVE UNTIL TODAY AND I LOVE SO MUCH. SMOOTH DRIVE, COMFORTABLE, POWERFUL, GREAT LOOKING, SPACIOUS AND GREAT ENGINE. WELL I WAIT FOR MORE THAN 3 MONTHS FILLING OUT THE TANK AND TRACKING THE MILEAGE. 2 WEEKS AGO I RECEIVED A LETTER FROM GMC WITH MY VIN NUMBER STANDING THAT THIS IS A PROBLEM THAT THEY FIND OUT AND THEY ARE WILLING TO PAY 50% OF THE COST. I DID CALL THEM IN FACT TO KNOW THE AUTHENTICITY OF THE LETTER AND THEY CONFIRM THE ISSUE RECOMMENDING TO TAKE TO THE DEALER. I DID, AND THIS PROBLEM HAS A COST EQUIVALENT OF ALMOST A THOUSAND, WHICH WITH 50% OF DISCOUNT WITH THE LETTER WILL BE CLOSE TO FIVE HUNDRED. GMC IS AVOIDING HAVING THIS PAID 100% SINCE IT'S A RECOGNIZED AND IT SHOULD BE A RECALL. I REFUSE TO PAY FOR SOMETHING THAT IT'S A MANUFACTURING DEFECT PART. SERVICE MANAGER SAID THESE FUEL GAUGES ALWAYS GO OUT ON ENVOYS AND THE COST TO REPAIR WAS $578.00 (PLUS TAX) - I CHOKED AND DID NOT GET REPAIRED. 3 MONTHS LATER AFTER TRYING TO OPERATE THE VEHICLE WITHOUT THE FUEL GAUGE - IT BECAME A NIGHTMARE TO KNOW IF WE HAD GAS IN THE VEHICLE OR NOT, I TOOK IT TO AN INDEPENDENT REPAIR SHOP AND THEY SAID "WE SEE THIS FUEL GAUGE PROBLEM ALL THE TIME ON THE ENVOYS"... THEY SAID THE GMC PARTS WERE A RIP-OFF AND EXPENSIVE, THEY WOULD HAVE TO USE GMC PARTS FOR THE FUEL GAUGE AND THEY QUOTED $408.00 (PLUS TAX) FOR THE REPAIR. THE SERVICE MANAGER FOR THE REPAIR SHOP SAID HE COULD NOT UNDERSTAND WHY THEY HAVE NOT HAD A RECALL ON THIS SINCE THEY HAVE SEEN HUNDREDS OF GMC'S WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. HE SAID WE MAY WANT TO WAIT ON THE REPAIR TO SEE IF GM HAS A RECALL. ON AUGUST 30, I RECEIVED A WRITTEN NOTIFICATION FROM GMC STATING AN ISSUE WITH ENVOYS AND THE FUEL LEVEL SENSOR FAILURE PROBLEM; HOWEVER, GMC STATED THEY WOULD ONLY COVER 50% OF THE COST OF REPAIR. AFTER HAVING THE CLUSTER PANEL REPAIRED, MY GAS GAUGE HAS STOPPED WORKING AND I AM TOLD THAT THE ENTIRE TANK HAS TO BE REMOVED FOR REPAIR AND THAT THERE HAS NOT BEEN A RECALL ON THIS ISSUE EITHER. THE WINDOW AND DOOR LOCK SYSTEM ON THE FRONT PASSENGER DOOR ALSO IS NON-OPERATIONAL. THIS VEHICLE SEEMS TO HAVE SEVERAL MINOR ELECTRICAL ISSUES BUT I AM MOST DISTURBED BY THE FACT THAT AFTER SPENDING THE MONEY TO HAVE THE CLUSTER PANEL FIXED MY GAS GAUGE IS STILL NOT WORKING PROPERLY.

I FILLED MY GAS TANK UP TO FULL AROUND 2 MONTHS AGO. AFTER I WAS DONE, I STARTED THE VEHICLE, AND NOTICED THE GAUGE DIPPED TO EMPTY AND SHOWED THAT I WAS LOW ON FUEL. I WENT IN AND HAD THE ATTENDANT VERIFY THAT INDEED I DID HAVE GAS DISPENSED INTO MY TANK. THE GAUGE CONTINUED TO FLUCTUATE FOR THE NEXT FEW DAYS, AND EVER SINCE HAS SHOWN EMPTY TO 1/4 OR 3/8 OF A TANK, NEVER SHOWING THE SAME READING FOR MORE THAN A FEW MINUTES AT A TIME. I HAVE A FAMILY AND DO WORRY FOR THEIR SAFETY. THERE IS NO WAY OF KNOWING TRULY HOW MUCH GAS IS IN THERE AT ANY GIVEN MOMENT, AND THE COST IS WAY TO STEEP TO REPAIR. I HAVE SPOKEN TO MULTIPLE GM DEALERS AND CUSTOMER SERVICE REPS, AND HAVE FOUND THAT THEY LIKE TO PRETEND THAT THIS HAS NEVER HAPPENED TO ANYONE BEFORE. VERY UNCOOPERATIVE. FAULTY FUEL GAUGE. AFTER FILLING UP TANK WITH GAS, FUEL GAUGE READS EMPTY. AFTER SOME DRIVING, FUEL GAUGE INDICATES A CHANGING LEVEL OF FUEL WITH THE RANGE INDICATOR FLUCTUATING FROM 0 TO ~114 MILES LEFT. USUALLY GAUGE READS 0 REGARDLESS OF HOW MUCH FUEL IS IN THE TANK, BUT SOMETIMES IT WILL INDICATE A HIGHER READING THAN WHAT THE TANK ACTUALLY HOLDS. THIS ISSUE HAS CAUSED 1 INCIDENT WHERE THE VEHICLE RAN OUT OF FUEL WHILE THE GAUGE INDICATED THERE WAS STILL FUEL IN THE TANK. I BELIEVE THE PROBLEM TO BE WITH THE SENDING UNIT ON THE GAS TANK.

MY HUSBAND FILLED THE ENVOY WITH GAS, AND WHEN WE DROVE OFF WE NOTICED THE GAS GAUGE WAS READING EMPTY. WE THOUGHT THAT MAYBE THE PUMP WAS DEFECTIVE AND WE HADN'T ACTUALLY PUMPED GAS, SO WE DROVE A FEW MILES DOWN THE ROAD TO ANOTHER GAS STATION TO SEE IF WE COULD GET MORE GAS. WE WERE ONLY ABLE TO PUMP LESS THAN A GALLON, SO WE FIGURED OUT THE GAUGE WASN'T READING CORRECTLY. AFTER DRIVING ABOUT 45 MINUTES THE GAUGE SLOWLY MOVED FROM EMPTY TO HALF FULL, WOULD DROP BACK TO EMPTY AT RANDOM POINTS (SOMETIMES WHILE STOPPED, SOMETIMES WHILE DRIVING). EVER SINCE THIS TIME OUR GAUGE HAS FLUCTUATED WILDLY, READING EMPTY THE MAJORITY OF THE TIME, BUT OCCASIONALLY MOVING ABOUT FROM A QUARTER FULL TO HALF THEN BACK TO EMPTY. IN JULY OF 2009, MY FUEL GAUGE STOPPED WORKING, IT WAS READING EMPTY ALL THE TIME. EVEN AFTER A FILL UP. I WENT TO THE DEALER AND THEY TOLD ME THAT THE FUEL SENSOR WAS NOT WORKING ANY MORE. THEY WOULD HAVE TO DROP THE FUEL TANK AND REPLACE THE SENSOR. THE DEALER STATED THAT IT WASN'T NECESSARY TO FIX. SO I HAVE BEEN GETTING GAS EVERY 300 MILES. TODAY I TOOK THE CAR IN FOR A OIL CHANGE AND WAS TOLD THAT THE FUEL SENSOR PROBLEM WAS PUTTING A STRAIN ON MY COMPUTER FOR THE CAR. THE COMPUTER CONTROLS EVERYTHING IN THE CAR. I AM THE OWNER OF A 2005 GMC ENVOY. ON AUGUST 20, 2010, I TOOK MY CAR TO FILL UP PRIOR TO TAKING A TRIP FROM MARYLAND TO VIRGINIA. ONCE I FILLED UP, GOT IN THE CAR AND TURNED ON THE IGNITION, THE GAS GAUGE DID NOT MOVE FROM EMPTY TO FULL. AS I CONTINUED TO DRIVE (SOMEWHERE AROUND 60 MILES) THE GAS GAUGE MOVED TO 1/2,THEN A 1/4 TANK. IT HAS BEEN ALL DOWNHILL SINCE. I TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALER ON 10/25/10 (MILEAGE WAS AT 77263) AND WAS TOLD THAT IT WOULD COST OVER $1000 TO REPAIR THE SENSOR WHICH THEY ARE STATING AS THE ISSUE. BEING OUT OF WARRANTY AT THIS POINT, I HAVE NOT HAD IT REPAIRED AS I CANNOT AFFORD THIS TYPE OF EXPENSE. I BASICALLY DRIVE ESTIMATING MY MILEAGE AFTER EVERY FILL UP WHICH IS VERY DANGEROUS. THE FUEL GAUGE IS INOPERABLE DUE TO THE FAILURE OF THE FUEL SENDING UNIT. THIS IS A COMMON ISSUE IN THE 2004 -2007 GMC ENVOY, CHEVY TRAILBLAZERS AND BUICK RANIER. I KNOW AT LEAST 4 OTHER PEOPLE WHO HAVE EXPERIENCED THIS ISSUE. THE DEALER STATES THAT THIS IS NOT A CLASS ACTION ISSUE BUT TO MANY COMMENTS ARE ON THE INTERNET. THE VEHICLE WILL STALL AT INTERSECTIONS AND PARKING LOTS WHEN PROCEEDING THROUGH THE INTERSECTION AFTER BEING STOPPED. I CONTACTED GM CUSTOMER SERVICE AND THEY STATED THAT THIS IS NOT A RECALL ISSUE WITH THE GM PRODUCTS. GM SHOULD BE RECALL ALL VEHICLES AND REPLACE THE FUEL SENDING UNITS AT NO CHARGE OR A REDUCED CHARGE(COST OF PART OR LABOR WHICHEVER IS THE LEAST COST TO THE OWNER). THE GOVERNMENT HAS BAILED THEM OUT NOW IT IS TIME FOR GM TO DO THE RIGHT THING. ALSO THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER STOPPED WORKING CORRECTLY ALSO AND THIS RESULTED IN SPEEDING TICKETS. I HAVE REPLACED WITH A REMANUFACTURED INSTRUMENT CLUSTER AT THE COST OF $150.00 VS $600.00 WITH THE LOCAL GM DEALER.

THE FUEL TANK LEVEL SENSOR IS DEFECTIVE AND COULD RESULT IN A SUBJECT VEHICLE RUNNING OUT OF FUEL, STALL, AND BEING REAR ENDED BY ANOTHER VEHICLE. THE FUEL LEVEL SENDING UNIT HAS A VARIABLE RESISTOR ATTACHED TO A FLOAT INSIDE THE FUEL TANK. AS YOU USE FUEL, THE FLOAT CHANGES POSITION (DOWNWARDS) CAUSING THE VARIABLE RESISTOR TO CHANGE VALUE. THE CHANGE IN RESISTANCE CAUSES A CHANGE IN THE VOLTAGE SENT TO THE FUEL GAGE. MY P0463 ERROR IS SAYING THAT THE VARIABLE RESISTOR IS SHOWING HIGH INPUT, INSTEAD OF A TYPICAL SMALL VALUE. THIS MEANS THAT THE VARIABLE RESISTOR OR SOMETHING ELSE INSIDE THE SENDER UNIT IS CAUSING THE ECM TO "SEE" AN INVALID VOLTAGE ON THE FUEL GAGE CIRCUIT. IF THE VOLTAGE IS TOO HIGH THEN THE RESISTANCE IS TOO HIGH. POSSIBLY A BAD CONNECTION BETWEEN THE ECU AND THE SENDER OR A GROUNDING PROBLEM.

I'M HAVING THE SAME ISSUE WITH THE FUEL GAUGE ON MY 2005 GMC ENVOY. I CAN REGISTER 1/4 A TANK BUT THE MINUTE I FILL, THE GAUGE DROPS BELOW EMPTY AND THE FUEL LIGHT COMES ON. FOR THE LAST FEW MONTHS MY 2005 GMC ENVOY DENALI HAS HAD REPEATED PROBLEMS WITH THE FUEL GAUGE. AFTER RE-FUELING THE VEHICLE, THE GAUGE WILL GO TO EMPTY AND ILLUMINATE THE EMPTY TANK WARNING LIGHT. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ALSO COMES ON. WITHIN A FEW MILES THE FUEL GAUGE WILL BEGIN TO FLUCTUATE WILDLY FOR A PERIOD OF TIME, MAKING IT IMPOSSIBLE TO KNOW HOW MUCH GAS IS IN IT. THE FUEL GAUGE SOMETIMES BEGINS TO OPERATE AGAIN AFTER THE CAR HAS BEEN DRIVEN FOR A FEW DAYS. CAR HAS BECOME UNSAFE BECAUSE IT IS DIFFICULT TO DETERMINE HOW MUCH FUEL IS IN IT AND EMPTY TANK SENSOR "CRIES WOLF." WHILE THIS DOES NOT OCCUR EACH TRIP, IT DOES OCCUR SEVERAL TIMES EACH WEEK. FUEL GAUGE MALFUNCTION - READS ONE-HALF TANK AT 179 MILES; 20 MILES LATER READS ONE-QUARTER TANK. ISSUES "FUEL LEVEL LOW" WARNING AFTER REFUELING AND FOR NEXT 3 TO 4 TIMES VEHICLE IS STARTED HEADLIGHTS DIM BRIEFLY WHEN ACCELERATOR IS RELEASED. FREQUENT NEED TO REPLACE EXTERIOR LAMPS THE PROBLEMS FIRST MANIFEST IN THE NEED TO REPEATEDLY CHANGE BRAKE AND TAILLIGHT BULBS, AND THE DIMMING OF THE HEADLIGHTS, WHICH CONTINUES. THEN, SPORADICALLY, THE SPEEDOMETER STOPPED FUNCTIONING, OR ONLY REGISTERED A FRACTION OF THE SPEED THE VEHICLE WAS TRAVELING. AFTER THAT, AT START UP, THE "FUEL LEVEL LOW" WARNING, WHICH ACTIVATES WHEN THE VEHICLE DETERMINES IT HAS FUEL TO TRAVEL 40 ADDITIONAL MILES, STARTED TO CHIME WHEN THERE WAS MORE THAN ONE-HALF TANK OF FUEL. THE WARNING ALSO NOW ISSUES WHENEVER THE VEHICLE IS REFUELED. THE POTENTIAL FAILURE OF THE EXTERIOR LIGHTING SYSTEM PRESENTS A CLEAR HAZARD TO THE OCCUPANTS OF THE VEHICLE AND OTHERS - THE DRIVER WOULDN'T BE ABLE TO SEE WHERE HE IS GOING, AND OTHER DRIVERS WOULDN'T BE ABLE TO SEE THE VEHICLE HEADING TOWARD THEM. THE FUEL SYSTEM ISSUES COULD LEAD TO UNEXPECTEDLY RUNNING OUT OF FUEL, CREATING THE POTENTIAL FOR A DISABLED VEHICLE OR ITS DRIVER BEING HIT BY ANOTHER. THE STALLING IS NOTED TO BE OCCURRING MORE FREQUENTLY THE LONGER THIS GOES UNREPAIRED. STALLING AT LIGHTS, IN PARKING LOTS AND WHILE BACKING UP PUTS US AT RISK OF BEING HIT BY ANOTHER VEHICLE. ALSO THE INABILITY TO ACCURATELY MONITOR THE AMOUNT OF GAS IN THE VEHICLE PUTS MYSELF AND MY FAMILY AT RISK OF BEING STRANDED WHILE TRAVELING. I HAVE A 2005 GMC ENVOY. THE ENVOY BEGAN EXPERIENCING PROBLEMS AT APPROXIMATELY 58, 000 MILES WHEN THE GAS TANK BEGAN READING EMPTY NO MATTER HOW MUCH GAS WAS IN THE TANK. EVENTUALLY, AFTER MUCH COMPLAINING TO MY LOCAL DEALERSHIP THEY STATED THEY WOULD ONLY REPAIR THE PROBLEM IF I PAID FOR HALF OF THE REPAIRS. I REFUSED. LATER, AT APPROXIMATELY 80,000 MILES, MY SPEEDOMETER BEGAN MALFUNCTIONING. THE SPEEDOMETER WORKS INTERMITTENTLY, JUST RECENTLY IT WAS STUCK AT 120 MPH EVEN IN PARK. NOW, THE BATTERY GAUGE HAS BEGUN TO MALFUNCTION. THE BATTERY CHARGE RANGES FROM THE LOWEST TO THE HIGHEST WITH NO REAL RHYME OR REASON. IT IS APPARENT BY READING ON THE INTERNET FORUMS THAT THIS IS A MAJOR PRODUCT DEFECT AS IT HAPPENS TO MANY, MANY GMC OWNERS, ESPECIALLY 2002-2005 ENVOY OWNERS. I HAVE FILED COMPLAINTS WITH GMC DIRECTLY AND RECEIVED RESPONSES THAT ARE NOT SATISFACTORY. TL*- THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 GMC ENVOY. THE HEADLIGHTS, DASHBOARD, AND TAIL LIGHTS FLASHED RANDOMLY AT ANY SPEED, THIS FAILURE STARTED IN OCTOBER OF 2006. THE WEATHER AND TIME OF DAY WERE NOT FACTORS IN THE FAILURE. THE DEALERSHIP SAID THAT THE FAILURE WAS NORMAL. THERE WERE TSBS FOR THE FAILURE, AS WELL AS FOR SEVERAL OTHERS. THE FUEL NECK HAD BEEN REPLACED TWICE DUE TO A DESIGN CHANGE. THE SEAL AROUND THE LICENSES PLACE HOLDER CAME LOOSE AND HAD TO BE REPLACED. THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS SQUEAKING, THE CONTACT TOOK VEHICLE FOR SERVICE ON THREE OCCASIONS, AND REPLACED THE SERPENTINE BELT TWICE, AN AIRBAG SENSOR, THE REAR WIPER ARM, THE OXYGEN SENSOR TWICE ,THE FIRST TIME AT 7000 MILES. THERE WERE CRUISE CONTROL FAILURES, WHEN THE CONTACT TRIED TO ACCELERATE IT HESITATED AND THEN SURGED. THE WEATHER STRIPPING ON THE REAR DOORS HAS BEEN REPAIRED THREE TIMES. THE ABS WOULD SKIP ON A BUMPY ROAD AND WOULD NOT ENGAGE. AT ONE POINT THE CONTACT COULD SMELL FUEL IN THE PASSENGER COMPARTMENT AND VEHICLE HAD VERY POOR GAS MILEAGE, THE DEALER STATED THAT THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE VEHICLE, BUT AIR VALVE BECAME STUCK AND WOULD NOT CLOSE. THE REAR DOOR HINGES SQUEAKED. THIS WINTER IT WON'T GO TO FULL VOLTAGE UNTIL A MINUTE ELAPSED AFTER THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN STARTED. MY SON WAS KILLED IN A ROLLOVER ACCIDENT ON 4/18/06. HE WAS EJECTED THROUGH THE DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR IN WHICH THE TOP PART OF THE DOOR WAS PULLED AWAY FROM THE ROOF OF THE CAR DURING THE ROLLOVER.
