BRAKE LINE FAILED AND NOW NOTICED ALL BRAKE LINES ARE RUSTED ABOUT 2 FEET FROM THE ABS WHERE THEY MEET AT TO ROUTE DOWN TO THE FRAME RAILS. *TR

I WAS JUST GETTING READY TO LEAVE THE CAR WASH. I PRESSED THE BRAKE PADAL TO PUT THE TRUCK IN GEAR, A SECOND LATER THE PADAL WENT TO THE FLOOR, THOUGHT IT WAS AIR IN THE LINE. TRIED A FEW MORE TIMES THEN GOT OUT OF THE TRUCK TO LOOK FOR THE LEAK, FOUND (STEEL LINE) DRIVERS SIDE RUSTED. HAD TRUCK TOWED TO SHOP, AS I COULD NOT DRIVE IT. THEY FOUND HEAVY RUST ON ALL BRAKE LINES IN THE FRONT, THE CONTROL ARMS ALSO HAVE HEAVY RUST. THANK GOD I WAS NOT IN TRAFFIC AS I AM SURE I WOULD HAVE CRASHED. THE SHOP IS REPLACING ALL FRONT BRAKE LINES AND ARE GOING TO INSPECT ALL OTHER LINES IE: ALL BRAKE LINES TO BACK, ALL FUEL LINES. PARKING BRAKE FAILED AS WELL. HOW DID THIS TRUCK PASS NYS INSPECTION? MY 1999 GMC JIMMY SUV JUST STARTED HAVING A PROBLEM WITH THE ABS BRAKING SYSTEM. THIS IS POSING A SAFETY HAZARD BECAUSE IT LENGTHENS THE TIME IT TAKES FOR US TO STOP. THERE WAS AN INITIAL RECALL FROM GM ON THIS HOWEVER IT IS FOR EVERY MAKE AND MODEL SUV EXCEPT JIMMY. I WONDER IF IT IS BECAUSE THE JIMMY IS THE MOST POPULAR MODEL AND GM WANTS TO SAVE MONEY? I WANT SAFETY. THIS IS MY WIFE'S TRUCK AND SHE DRIVES MY 4 YEAR OLD AND 6 YEAR OLD IN THIS SUV WHICH HAS DIFFICULTY STOPPING DUE TO THE ABS PROBLEM. WE CAN NOT AFFORD TO HAVE THIS FIXED. I WANT TO KNOW WHY THE 1999 JIMMY IS NOT PART OF THE RECALL? *NM
THERE ARE SEVERAL RECALLS OUT ON MY MODEL OF VEHICLE IN WHICH MY VEHICLE HAS THE SAME SYMPTOMS BUT WHEN I RUN A CHECK ON THE YEAR VIN IT COMES BACK WITH NO RECALLS. HOW CAN I MAKE SURE THAT MY REPAIRS SHOULD BE COVERED UNDER THE RECALLS. *JB

1999 GMC JIMMY EXHIBITS EXACTLY THE SAME AUTOMATIC BRAKING SYSTEM DEFECT AS NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 05V379000, MFG'S REPORT DATE: AUG 29,2005. MY VIN NUMBER [XXX] CURRENTLY NOT COVERED. VEHICLE ABS SYSTEM ACTIVATES AT LOW SPEED ON DRY PAVEMENT CAUSING INCREASED STOPPING DISTANCES. ABS SYSTEM OFTEN ENGAGES EVEN THOUGH MY FOOT IS NOT ON THE BRAKE PEDAL. HAS ALMOST CAUSED NUMEROUS ACCIDENTS. I OWN A 1999 GMC JIMMY THAT HAS HAD A HISTORY OF BRAKE PROBLEMS SINCE PURCHASE. IN AUGUST OF 2005 WE EXPERIENCED "PULSATION" OF THE BRAKES. OUR MECHANIC TOLD US THAT THE ABS SYSTEM SENSOR IS ACTIVATING A LOW SPEEDS. WHEN WE TRY TO STOP IT ACTIVATES AND CAUSES INCREASED STOPPING DISTANCE. I SEE THAT THERE IS A RECALL ON 1999-2002 GMC TRUCKS AND SUV EXCEPT JIMMY'S. I FIND IT HARD TO BELIEVE THAT THIS IS NOT HAPPENING TO OTHER JIMMY'S. THIS PROBLEM IS VERY DANGEROUS. I AM GOING TO SEE IF THE DEALER/GM WILL PAY FOR IT. I SURE HOPE SO. I BET THAT GM DID NOT RECALL THE JIMMY BECAUSE IT SOLD THE MOST OF THAT VEHICLE !*JB
WHEN BRAKING FROM ANY SPEED THE VEHICLE STARTED TO SHAKE/VIBRATE.*JB THE CONSUMER WAS TOLD THAT THE ROTORS ARE RUSTED. VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED AND CONSUMER DISSATISFIED WITH PRICE OF SERVICE. *TC

A FEW WEEKS AGO, MY ABS LIGHT KEPT COMING ON, AND ON MY WAY TO TAKE IT IN FOR A CHECK UP, THE BRAKES FELT AS IF THEY WERE GOING TO FAIL. I LEFT THE 1999 GMC JIMMY IN THE GARAGE FOR SEVERAL DAYS FOR REPAIR.THEY REPLACED THE ABS, AND WITHIN 20 MILES OF THE GARAGE, THE ABS LIGHT CAME ON AGAIN. I AGAIN SCHEDULED AN APPT TO HAVE THIS REPAIRED. THE GARAGE, ONCE AGAIN, REPLACED THE ABS. WITHIN 20 MILES, THE ABS LIGHT CAME ONE FOR THE 3RD TIME. IT WAS REPLACED FOR A THIRD TIME. THE LIGHT IS NOW ON AGAIN, AND SOMETIMES MY BREAKS FEEL AS IF THEY ARE GOING TO FAIL. I STILL HAVE THE PROBLEM, AS WELL AS THE PARTS REPLACED, AND I HAVE SPENT SEVERAL HUNDRED DOLLARS. THE CONSUMER STATED THAT THE BRAKES WENT TO THE FLOOR WHEN ATTEMPTIMG TO STOP, THE CONSUMER PUMPED THE BRAKES AND THEY ENGAGED AND THE TRUCK FINALLY STOPPED. *YH
THE BRAKES PULSATE FROM DELAMINATING RUST ON BOTH FRONT ROTORS, BOTH FRONT ROTORS WERE REPLACED (6-22-00)BUT THE PROBLEM REAPPEARED, THE SECOND TIME ALL ROTORS AND PADS WERE REPLACED (11-6-00). NLM
PROBLEM WITH VEHICLE IS INTERMITTENT MALFUNCTION OF ABS SYSTEM. WHEN MAKING EMERGENCY STOPS, BRAKES GIVE WAY AND INCREASE STOPPING DISTANCE. THIS HAPPENS AT LOW SPEEDS MAINLY AND HAS BEEN A PROBLEM WITH THESE VEHICLES IN PAST RECALLS THAT DO NOT COVER MY YEAR.
