TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 GMC SIERRA 1500. WHILE REVERSING THE VEHICLE, THE BRAKE PEDAL BECAME STUCK TO THE FLOORBOARD. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO ENGAGE THE EMERGENCY BRAKE TO STOP THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AND FOUND THAT ALL THE BRAKE LINES WERE CORRODED, WHICH CAUSED THE BRAKE FLUID TO LEAK. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO BOWSER AUTOMOTIVE (132-168 NORTH LEWIS RUN ROAD, WEST MIFFLIN, PA 15236, (412) 469-2100) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT ALL THE BRAKE LINES WERE SEVERELY CORRODED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 75,000.

WHILE DRIVING HOME, SOMEONE PULLED OUT IN FRONT OF ME. I APPLIED THE BRAKES AND THE PEDAL WENT STRAIGHT TO THE FLOOR. I MANAGED TO AVOID A COLLISION AND MADE IT HOME AS THIS HAPPENED LUCKILY AROUND THE CORNER FROM MY HOUSE. I LOOKED FOR THE PROBLEM, IT DIDN'T TAKE LONG AS UNDER THE HOOD THE FRAME WAS COVERED WITH BRAKE FLUID. I WAS AMAZED TO FIND THAT ONE OF THE METAL BRAKE LINE HAD RUSTED THROUGH AND THE OTHERS DON'T LOOK TO BE IN VERY GOOD CONDITION. NEEDLESS TO SAY I WILL BE REPLACING ALL THE BRAKE LINES WITH STAINLESS STEEL LINES (A COST OF $350.00). I CAN'T IMAGINE WHY STAINLESS STEEL LINES ARE NOT ORIGINAL EQUIPMENT. RUST SEEMS TO BE A PROBLEM WITH THIS VEHICLE NOT ONLY THE BRAKE LINES BUT ALSO PARTS OF THE SUSPENSION.

I MADE AN ATTEMPT AT MY LOCAL GMC DEALER TO REMEDY THIS CONTINUING PROBLEM. HOWEVER, I WAS INFORMED THAT GENERAL MOTORS WOULD ONLY MAKE ONE ATTEMPT TO REMEDY ISSUE AND THAT I ALREADY HAD USED THAT. THE DEALER REPRESENTATIVE STATED THAT I COULD PULL THE FUSE ON THE ABS AND THE VEHICLE WOULD PERFORM STOPPING WITHOUT THE AID OF ABS AND WOULD STOP NORMALLY IN DRY ENVIRONMENT, WITHOUT THE ASSISTANCE OF ANTI LOCK BRAKES. I FEEL THIS IS A DESIGN PROBLEM AND IS A TREMENDOUS SAFETY ISSUE. I DID TAKE VEHICLE TO ANOTHER MECHANIC WHO DROVE VEHICLE IN HIS PARKING LOT AND THE PROBLEM OCCURRED TO HIM ALMOST CAUSING A CRASH IN HIS LOT. *JB

THE CONTACT HAD TO UTILIZE THE EMERGENCY BRAKE IN ORDER TO STOP THE VEHICLE. AFTER THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED, THE CONTACT DISCOVERED THAT BRAKE FLUIDS WERE LEAKING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL MECHANIC WHO INSPECTED THE BRAKES AND BRAKE LINES AND FOUND THAT THE BRAKE LINE SYSTEM WAS RUSTED. THE MECHANIC STATED THAT ALL FOUR BRAKE LINES WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE WHO ADVISED THAT THE BRAKE FAILURE WAS CAUSED BY NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR. THE MANUFACTURER THEN ADVISED THAT A REPRESENTATIVE WOULD RETURN THE CONTACT'S CALL AT A LATER DATE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 114,000.

2002 GMC SIERRA 1500 5.3 STD CAB SLT WHILE BRAKING AT LOW SPEEDS THE ANTI LOCK BRACKET SYSTEM TRIGGERS CAUSING UNSAFE STOPPING DISTANCES. LUCKILY, I'VE NOT CRASH INTO ANOTHER CAR OR PERSON, BUT CURBS, SHOPPING CARTS AND DITCHES HAVE BEEN RUN INTO DUE TO THE TRUCK NOT STOPPING. THIS HAPPENS WHILE BRAKING UNDER 10MPH AND IT IS RARELY POSSIBLE TO GET THE TRUCK TO NORMALLY BRAKE, OFTEN I HAVE TO KICK THE EMERGENCY BRAKE TO TRY AND SLOW THE TRUCK. WHEN BRAKING THE TRUCKS ABS SYSTEM KICKS IN THE BRAKE PEDAL GOES FROM SOFT AND MUSHY TO EXTREMELY HARD AND YOU CAN'T PRESS THE BRAKE PEDAL. I WEIGH 220PLUS AND WHEN THIS HAPPENS THERE IS REALLY NOTHING YOU CAN DO BESIDES STEER OUT OF HARMS WAY AND KEEP TAPING THE BRAKE PEDAL WAITING FOR THE ABS TO STOP. THIS HAPPENS EVERYDAY I'VE ALREADY HAD CHANGED OUT THE HUBS BEFORE KNOWING OF THIS ISSUE AND NOW I HAVE TO REPLACE THEM AGAIN . I'M EXPECTING TO HAVE TO PAY MORE THAN1000 US DOLLARS FOR POOR DESIGN AND RECALL EFFORTS ON GM. I'VE IN CHICAGO AND SUBURBS FOR THE ENTIRE LIFE OF THE TRUCK. MOMENTS AFTER LEAVING THE DRIVEWAY AT OUR HOME, APPROACHING AN INTERSECTION AT ABOUT 25 MPH, I APPLIED THE BRAKES ON MY 2002 GMC SIERRA, AND THE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. I COULDN'T STOP THE VEHICLE BEFORE GOING THROUGH THE INTERSECTION. FORTUNATELY NO OTHER VEHICLES WERE IN THE INTERSECTION AND NO ACCIDENT OCCURRED. AFTER RETURNING THE VEHICLE TO THE DRIVEWAY I DISCOVERED BRAKE FLUID UNDER THE TRUCK BED AND DRIPPING FROM THE FRAME.I COULD NOT SEE THE SOURCE OF THE LEAK AS IT WAS WELL HIDDEN EITHER IN OR ABOVE THE TRUCK FRAME. I HAD THE VEHICLE BROUGHT BY FLAT BED TRUCK TO A LOCAL AUTO REPAIR GARAGE. THE MECHANICS FOUND THE BRAKE LINES TO BE HEAVILY RUSTED AND ONE HAD RUSTED THROUGH AND FAILED, CAUSING THE EARLIER BRAKE FAILURE. BECAUSE THE BRAKE LINE RUSTING WAS SO HEAVY, ALL THE BRAKE LINES WERE REPLACED. ALSO,, THE TWO FRONT BRAKE CALIPERS WERE REPLACED BECAUSE OF HEAVY RUST. THE RUSTED BRAKE LINES ARE AVAILABLE. THE CONSEQUENCES OF THIS WAS A REPAIR BILL OF $1149.78, AND HAVING MY TRUCK IN THE SHOP FOR SEVERAL DAYS. LUCKILY, NOBODY WAS HURT. IF THIS HAD OCCURRED LATER IN THE DAY IN THE SAME LOCATION IT MAY NOT HAVE TURNED OUT THE SAME. THIS IS THE THIRD MAJOR BRAKE REPAIR DONE ON THIS TRUCK. I AM THE ORIGINAL OWNER. I HAVE HAD TO HAVE THE BRAKE PADS AND ROTORS REPLACED TWICE. BOTH TIMES I WAS TOLD THE ROTORS WERE SO BADLY RUSTED THEY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. DURING THE FIRST SIX YEARS OF OWNING THE VEHICLE IT WAS KEPT IN A GARAGE. IT HAS ALWAYS BEEN WELL TAKEN CARE OF. WITH THIS REPAIR, I HAVE SPENT OVER $3000. THE HUBS ARE A NON WEAR ITEM. POOR ENGINEERING IS THE CULPRIT OF THIS PROBLEM. THE HUBS SHOULD BE REPLACED JUST LIKE THE SENSORS WERE. I WAS ALSO TOLD THAT ON MY GMC TRUCK I CANNOT HAVE THE ANTILOCK BRAKES DEACTIVATED. AS A RESULT, I HAVE TO SPEND THE $1000 TO MAKE MY TRUCK SAFE TO DRIVE. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 GMC SIERRA 1500. WHILE MAKING A RIGHT TURN AT 5 MPH ON A DRY LIMESTONE, THE CONTACT HEARD A NOISE COMING FROM THE VEHICLE. THE NOISE SOUNDED AS IF THE ABS PUMP WAS ACTIVATED. WHEN HE DEPRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL, THE BRAKES FAILED TO RESPOND. THE FAILURE CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO CRASH INTO A WORK TRAILER. THE VEHICLE SUSTAINED FRONT END DAMAGE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER, BUT THEY COULD NOT FIND ANY FAILURES. THE MANUFACTURER SENT AN ENGINEER TO TAKE PICTURES OF THE VEHICLE AND TO RUN A DIAGNOSTIC REPORT. THE MANUFACTURER CALLED THE CONTACT AND STATED THAT THEY WERE UNABLE TO FIND ANY FAILURES AS WELL. THE CONTACT WAS ISSUED CASE NUMBER 71-534915559. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 87,000. THE CONSUMER STATED THAT AN REPRESENTATIVE CAME TO INVESTIGATE AND TOOK PICTURES THAT WERE IN TURN DOWNLOADED TO HIS LAPTOP. TWO WEEKS LATER THE CONSUMER WAS CONTACTED AND STATED THE CRASH WAS AT SUCH A LOW SPEED THE COMPUTER DID NOT RECORD ANYTHING AND GM COULD NOT ASSIST WITH THE REPAIRS. THE CONSUMER STATED TRADED VEHICLE IN DUE TO THE FACT COULD NOT GET ASSISTANCE FROM MANUFACTURER. THE CONSUMER PROVIDED PICTURES AND INFORMATION ON RECALLS PERTAINING TO THE DEFECT. THE VEHICLE WENT THROUGH THE GARAGE WALL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER, AND THEY FOUND FOUR ABS ERROR CODES. THE DEALER REPLACED THE ABS SENSORS ON THE FRONT WHEELS. THERE IS ABNORMAL BRAKE ROTOR DETERIATION AND RUSTING DUE TO POOR MANUFACTURING OR STEEL FORMULAS WHICH RUST ACCERLERATES AND WEARS DOWN THE PADS UNEVENLY. I HAVE WORKED ON BRAKES ON MANY AUTOS AND A FEW TRUCKS I'VE OWNED OVER THE LAST FEW DECADES AND NEVER HAVE SEEN SUCH RUSTING AND SURFACE FLAKING OF THE DISK ROTOR ON MY VIHICLE. I HAD MY DEALER LOOK AT THE ROTORS AND THEY AGREED IT MAY BE A BIT EXCESSIVE. I HAVE TO REPLACE ALL FOUR ROTORS DUE TO POOR QUALITY AND UNREPAIRABLE ROTORS. THE ROTORS LOOK LIKE THEY CAME OFF A 20 YEAR OLD TRUCK....THIS IS A SAFETY AND QUALITY PROBLEM THAT SHOULD BE LOOKED INTO. THANK YOU

DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHEN THE BRAKES WERE DEPRESSED THERE WAS A LOUD GRINDING NOISE. WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS BEING INSPECTED, THE DEALERSHIP NOTICED THE ROTOR HAD A 1" WIDE AND 3" LONG GAUGE IN THE METAL ABOUT "DEEP. THE CONTACT DETERMINED THIS WAS DUE TO POROSITY. THE DEALERSHIP INFORMED THE CONTACT THIS WAS NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR ON THE ROTORS.

THE 2002 WAS IN NEED OF FRONT HUBS SINCE THEY WERE NOT REPLACED WHEN THEY SHOULD HAVE BEEN AT THE TIME THE FRONT DIFFERENTIAL WAS REBUILT. THIS CAUSED THE TRUCK TO HAVE EXCESSIVE FRONT WHEEL FRICTION, AND COMPROMISED THE BRAKING CHARACTERISTICS OF THE TRUCK. IT WAS DIFFICULT TO DRIVE, ESPECIALLY IN SNOW, AND THE FRONT WHEEL FRICTION WOULD VARY BASED ON CHANGES IN SPEED, ROAD CONTOUR, TEMPERATURE, STEERING INPUT, THROTTLE INPUT, AND BRAKE INPUT. WHILE BRAKING THE TRUCK WOULD OFTEN PITCH SEVERELY TO ONE SIDE OR THE OTHER, THE ABS WOULD ACTIVATE ON DRY PAVEMENT. ON ONE OCCASION THE ABS ACTIVATED WHEN MY FOOT WAS OFF THE BRAKE. THE TRUCK WOULD ALSO SWAY FROM SIDE TO SIDE AT HIGHWAY SPEED AS THE FRICTION VARIED FROM SIDE TO SIDE. WHEN THE TRUCK WAS RETURNED TO ME ONCE FROM CULLIGAN GMC, THE POWER STEERING EFFORT HAD INCREASED GREATLY. THE CHARACTERISTICS OF THE REAR LOCKING DIFFERENTIAL HAD BEEN CHANGED. THE TRUCK WAS BACK TO THE DEALER, DAVID CADILLAC, MANY TIMES FOR THE SAME CONCERN WITH THE FRONT DIFFERENTIAL. ON ONE OCCASION THE TRUCK WAS RETURNED TO ME GUSHING GEAR LUBE FROM THE FRONT AXLE, ON ANOTHER IT WAS RETURNED TO ME WITH THE FRONT DIFFERENTIAL EMPTY. I WAS CHARGED FOR A 4 WHEEL ALIGNMENT WHEN ONLY 2 WHEELS CAN BE ALIGNED ON THIS TRUCK. THE WRONG OIL FILTER WAS INSTALLED, THE TRUCK WAS DRIVEN ABUSIVELY BY A DEALER EMPLOYEE (IT WAS RUN BEYOND MECHANICAL LIMITS WHILE COLD AS I STOOD IN THE PARKING LOT), AND WHEN I CALLED THE SERVICE ADVISER AFTER THE TRUCK HAD BEEN IN HIS SHOP FOR OVER A WEEK WITHOUT MY HEARING WHAT IT'S STATUS WAS, THE SERVICE PERSON SCREAMED AT ME ON THE PHONE "WHEN IT IS FINISHED I WILL CALL YOU!!!", AND HE SLAMMED THE PHONE DOWN. *NM
REAR BRAKE FULID AND EMERGENCY LINE IS EXPOSED AND EASILY DAMAGED BY ROAD DEBRIS AND/OR RUBBLE. 2WD C1500 TRUCKS HAVE BRAKE LINES AND CABLES DROOPING DOWN BEYOND BELOW REAR SHOCK ABSORBERS AND ARE EASILY SNAGGED BY ROAD TRASH.*JB CAUSING LOSS OF FULID AND BRAKING ABILITY.
