I was at a stop light and heard a loud noise like a shotgun blast. I felt a concussion hit me in the chest. I thought I had been shot at, then thought I was possibly rear ended but nobody was behind me. I noticed the airbag light was on, the hazards were on and I couldn't shut them off, and the seatbelts were, and still are all locked. But no airbag deployed. There was a smell in the cab that vaguely smelled like a cross between gunpowder and ozone. It's fortunate that I was not at freeway speed.

The contact stated while driving at 65 MPH with his friend in the front passenger's seat, the vehicle crashed into the driver's side of another vehicle that was making a left turn. The air bags failed to deploy. The contact stated that he hit his head against the ceiling, and hit his chest against the steering wheel, which caused him to have tense muscles and nerves. The contact's friend sustained a whiplash and twisted his back. Both the contact and his friend did not receive medical assistance. A police report was filed. The vehicle was towed to the residence of the contact's friend's sister. The dealer and the manufacturer were not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. Takata Recall. The contact owns a 2007 GMC Sierra 1500. The contract stated while driving 20 MPH, the front driver's side air bag deployed with no impact. The contact stated that the battery warning light was illuminated. The contact stated that after the inadvertent deployment, the front passenger side of the vehicle crashed into a barricade. The contact stated that he sustained a concussion; however, no medical attention was sought. A Police report was not filed. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer or independent mechanic to be diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 104,000.

The contact owns a 2007 GMC Sierra 1500. The contact stated that there was a crack on the passenger’s side dashboard close to the air bag housing. The contact stated that there was also a crack on the driver's side above the instrument panel and in the middle of the dashboard. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who informed her that the manufacturer would not be responsible for the dashboard repairs in 2019. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that the cracks have progressed over the years. The contact stated that she received NHTSA Campaign Number: 21V050000 (Air Bags) and the vehicle was taken to Reliable Buick GMC (400 Automall Dr, Roseville, CA 95661) for the recall repair and she was informed that she had to sign a waiver for the dashboard damages in order to replace the air bag. The contact stated that she was informed that there was a possibility of the dashboard cracking during the recall repair. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and a case was opened. The failure mileage was unknown.

The contact stated that after the dealer serviced the front passenger’s side air bag inflator under recall, the passenger’s side air bag warning light failed to illuminate with a passenger seated in the passenger’s seat. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic and diagnosed with a code reader, which showed an incorrect installation of equipment code. The dealer was made aware of the failure and diagnosed the vehicle with Sensing Diagnostic Module (SDM) sensor failure. The dealer informed the contact that the Sensing Diagnostic Control Module needed to be reprogrammed or replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 176,000.

WE HAVE MADE MULTIPLE ATTEMPTS TO HAVE IT REPLACED AT OUR LOCAL DEALERSHIP BUT WE ARE TOLD EACH TIME THAT THE PARTS ARE NOT AVAILABLE. WHILE WE UNDERSTAND THAT THIS IS A MASSIVE RECALL, IT HAS NOW BEEN OVER 3 YEARS WAITING FOR THE REPLACEMENT PART. WE WERE TOLD OUR ONLY OPTION WAS TO CONTACT THE MANUFACTURER OR FILE A COMPLAINT WITH THE NTSB.

EACH TIME I WAS TOLD THAT THEY DID NOT HAVE THE PART, THEREFORE THEY COULD NOT REPLACE THE AIRBAG. BECAUSE I WAS TOLD THEY NEVER RECEIVED THE REPLACEMENT PART, I CONTACTED THE PARTS DEPARTMENT DIRECTLY. I WAS TOLD THAT THEY WERE ABLE TO ORDER THE PART, HOWEVER I WOULD HAVE TO PAY $760.60. IT IS APPARENT THEY DO NOT WANT TO FIX THIS PROBLEM OR ADHERE TO THE RECALL STANDARDS. BECAUSE IT IS A RECALL, THE REPLACEMENT SHOULD COME AT NO COST TO THE CONSUMER. PLEASE HELP AND ADVISE ME IN THE DIRECTION I SHOULD TAKE. I AM AFRAID TO DRIVE MY VEHICLE WITHOUT THE AIRBAGS, WHICH WAS INCLUDED AS A WORKING PART WHEN I ORDERED IT. I HAVE CRACKS ON MY DASHBOARD OF MY TRUCK. BOTH ON THE DRIVERS SIDE AND PASSANGER. I'M AFRAID THAT IF I HAVE AN ACCIDENT THAT PEICES OF THE PLASTIC COULD HARM ME AND MY GRANDCHILD. ALSO COULD THE CRACKS GET BIGGER AND FORM A HOLE IN MY DASH? THAT DOES NOT SEEM VERY SAFE.

CRACKS AROUND AIR BAG IN DASH PASSENGER SIDE, SHARP PLASTIC PARTS COULD INJURE OCCUPANTS IN CASE OF AIR BAG DEPLOYMENT. THIS IS COMMON ON MOST 07 GM PICKUPS. THE DEALERS WILL NOT REPAIR THIS.. THE PLASTIC IS BRITTLE AND HAS SHARP EDGES.

THERE ARE CRACKS ON THE DASHBOARD CONNECTED TO THE AIRBAG. I'M CONCERNED THIS MAY BE A SAFETY HAZARD THAT COULD SEND SHRAPNEL IF AIRBAGS DEPLOY LIKE THE RECENT TAKATA RECALL. IT STARTED WITH ONE SMALL CRACK AND HAS DEVELOPED INTO THREE ACROSS THE DASHBOARD. THE LARGEST AROUND TEN INCHES LONG. THIS SEEMS TO BE A PREVALENT ISSUE WITH THIS AND SIMILAR GM MAKES AND MODELS BUT I DID NOT FIND A RECALL OR SERVICE BULLETIN ON THE ISSUE. I CONTACTED GMC AND THEY DO NOT OFFER ANY ASSISTANCE OUTSIDE OF WARRANTY.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS 2007 GMC SIERRA K1500. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 55 MPH, THE AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE FRONT IMPACT SENSOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE.
