The headlights are dangerously dim, can't drive the vehicle comfortably at night. There seems to be no solution for fixing them. A TSB has been issued concerning this, but does little to address fixing the problem.

Back up lights and Tail light problems My Back up lights turn on when the headlights are turned on and do not shut off unless the headlights are off. Also, recently, the rear tail lights were burning out early and would last only two weeks. The source of the problem seems to be in the fuse box. There is no short in the system. It appears to be in the fuse box of the 2014 GMC Sierra 1500. Bulbs were replaced and burned out quickly. Replacement parts are expensive and this problem exists on other Chevrolet and GMC trucks.

The contact owns a 2014 GMC Sierra 1500. The contact stated while driving 50 MPH, the passenger’s side headlight became inoperable. The contact stated that several unknown warning lights flashed on the instrument panel. The contact pulled over to inspect the vehicle and discovered that the water pump had failed. Despite the failure, the contact managed to drive the vehicle home. The next day upon starting the vehicle, the check engine warning light illuminated and both engine fans began to run at full capacity. The contact called the dealer and made an appointment for a diagnostic test. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 160,000.

I CAN BARELY SEE ONE CAR LENGTH AHEAD OF ME WHEN DRIVING AT NIGHT, WHICH IS PROHIBITING ME FROM USING MY PICK-UP FOR NIGHT TIME DRIVING. THIS IS RIDICULOUS TO HAVE SPENT SUCH A LARGE SUM OF MONEY FOR A VEHICLE AND NOT BE ABLE TO SEE DRIVING AT NIGHT. THERE SHOULD BE A MANDATORY RECALL OF THIS VEHICLE AND THE HEADLIGHT SYSTEM.

2014 GMC SIERRA 1500 4WD ~75K MILES. SOMETIMES WHEN I ROLL UP MY WINDOWS OR USE MY BLINKER AND IT SHUTS OFF CRUISE CONTROL (HWY). AND SOMETIMES WHEN I HIT MY BREAKS MY HEADLIGHTS WILL DIM (HWY, CITY STREETS, PARKING LOTS). WHEN I'M TURNING SLOWLY (IN PARKING LOTS) THE STEELING WILL OCCASIONALLY LOCK UP AND ONCE IT LOST POWER ENTIRELY. MY BATTERY WAS TESTED AT BIGO AND SAID IT WAS FINE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO CHARLIE'S CHEVROLET (877-688-4621, LOCATED AT 1412 U S 202, WINTHROP, ME 04364) WHERE THE TECHNICIAN RECOMMENDED A DIAGNOSTIC TEST. THE TEST WAS NOT PERFORMED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND STATED THAT THE VEHICLE PERFORMED AS DESIGNED. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED TO TAKE THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE CONTACT UPGRADED TO HID BULBS ON HIS OWN, WHICH OFFERED BETTER LIGHTING THAN THE ORIGINAL BULBS. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 20,000.

WHILE DRIVING DOWN A RESIDENTIAL STREET APPROACHING A STOP SIGN INTERSECTION I MERGED INTO THE CENTER OF ST TO PASS A TRASHCAN AND IN THE PROCESS OF RETURNING TO MY CORRECT POSITION ON THE ROAD I SUDDENLY HAD NO STEERING. PANICKING FROM THE LOSS I PRESSED MY BRAKES AN ATTEMPT TO BRING VEHICLE TO A STOP BUT WAS UNSUCCESSFUL BECAUSE THE TIRES BEGAN A SLIDE ONCE NOTICING THE TRACTION LOSS I PROCEEDED TO RELEASE BRAKES AND REAPPLY IN HOPES OF GAINING TRACTION THE BRIEF RELIEF FROM BRAKES CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO REGAIN TRACTION AND WHILE I STILL HAVE NO CONTROL OVER STEERING, THE VEHICLE JERKS TOWARDS THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE ROAD AND THE BRAKES BEING REAPPLIED THE VEHICLE CONTINUES TO SLIDE OFF PAVEMENT MAKING CONTACT WITH STOP SIGN AND TELEPHONE POLE.

MY HUSBAND AND I WERE DRIVING ON HIGHWAY 1 JUST PAST MONTARA BEACH. IT WAS AROUND 7:30 PM AND ALREADY DARK. WE WERE GOING APPROXIMATELY 45 MPH WHEN ALL OF A SUDDEN, BOTH HEADLIGHTS SHUT OFF ON ITS OWN. WE WERE APPROACHING AN EXTREMELY CURVY STRETCH OF ROAD ALONG OCEAN CLIFFS AND THERE WAS NOWHERE TO PULL OVER. THE SYMBOL ON THE DASH WAS LIT UP SAYING THAT OUR LIGHTS WERE ON (EVEN THOUGH THEY WEREN'T). THANKFULLY THERE WAS A CAR IN FRONT OF US AND ONE BEHIND US THAT GAVE US ENOUGH LIGHT AND TIME TO REACT WHICH MEANT WE DIDN'T HAVE TO JAM ON OUR BRAKES AND HOPE FOR THE BEST. WE TRIED THE HIGH BEAMS WHICH ALSO DID NOT WORK. AFTER TURNING KNOBS AND PRESSING BUTTONS (WHILE DRIVING) TO GET SOME ILLUMINATION, WE FINALLY WERE ABLE TO TURN ON THE FOG LIGHTS WHICH WAS ENOUGH TO GET US SOMEWHERE SAFE. THIS IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS AND SHOULD NEVER HAPPEN TO ANYONE. WITHOUT THE HEADLIGHTS FROM THE CAR IN FRONT OF US AND BEHIND US, THIS COULD HAVE ENDED VERY BADLY, POSSIBLY EVEN FATAL. WE WERE NEVER ABLE TO GET THE HEADLIGHTS BACK ON AND PLAN ON BRINGING THE TRUCK TO A LOCAL GMC DEALER TOMORROW. UNFORTUNATELY, EVEN IF WE GET IT FIXED, WE WILL BE WORRIED EVERY TIME WE DRIVE IT AT NIGHT KNOWING THAT THIS COULD HAVE ENDED SO MUCH WORSE. WE HAVEN'T EVEN PUT 1000 MILES ON IT SINCE WE PURCHASED IT.

DURING DRIVING, THE STABILITY SENSORS WOULD GO OFF AND SHOW UP STATING STABILITY TURNED OFF, OR POWER STEERING TURNED OFF. THE VOLTAGE ON VEHICLE WOULD SUDDENLY DROP FROM 15 TO 9 AND THEN BACK UP. THIS WILL USUALLY TURN OFF THE INTERIOR LIGHTS AND ELECTRONICS. I HAVE DISCUSSED THIS WITH OTHER 2014 SIERRA AND SILVERADO OWNERS AND THEY ALL ADVISED THIS WAS OCCURING ON THEIR VEHICLES. THERE IS A GROUND WIRE THAT WAS NOT PROPERLY INSTALLED UNDER THE DASH WHICH CAUSES HIGH RESISTANCE MATERIAL TO CAUSE ELECTRICAL ISSUES. DURING ONE OF MY DRIVES TO WORK GOING 60 MPH, THE ELECTRICAL COMPONENTS SHUT OFF AND CAUSED THE ENGINE TO STOP RUNNING. I WAS ABLE TO PULL OVER WHILE COASTING ON NO POWER AND RESTART THE VEHICLE AND IT WOULD CONTINUE TO GO. THERE HAVE BEEN TIMES WHERE THE STEERING WHEEL WOULD JERK WHILE STATIONARY AS WELL. AFTER MANY FORUM DISCUSSION THIS ALL RELATED BACK TO THE GROUND WIRE NOT BEING PROPERLY INSTALLED BY THE MANUFACTURER.

SECOND TRIP TO THE DEALER THEY ADJUSTED HEADLIGHT UP TO HIGH END OF SPEC. STILL NOT BRIGHT. I'M TO THE POINT OF INSTALLING AN AFTER MARKET HID KIT.

THE HEADLIGHTS ON THIS TRUCK ARE THE WORST PERFORMING LIGHTS I HAVE EVER USED. THEY EMIT A VERY POOR AMOUNT OF LIGHT MAKING IT DIFFICULT TO SEE AT NIGHT AND BARELY ABLE TO SEE AT NIGHT IF IT IS RAINING. I HAVE ALMOST BEEN IN SEVERAL ACCIDENTS AT NIGHT BECAUSE OF THE POOR LIGHTING. I HAVE HAD THE UPGRADE DONE BY GM AND THAT DID NOT MAKE THESE LIGHTS MUCH BETTER AND DEFINITELY DID NOT MAKE IT SAFER TO DRIVE AT NIGHT. THE HEADLIGHTS ARE SO DIM I DOUBT IT WOULD BE ANY LESS SAFE TO DRIVE AROUND WITH THEM OFF. I JUST PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE, AND MY FIRST TIME DRIVING AT NIGHT I HAD TO PARK, GET OUT OF THE VEHICLE AND CHECK TO SEE IF THE LIGHT BULBS WERE BURNED OUT. THE BULBS WERE NOT BURNED OUT, BUT THEY ALSO DO NOT FUNCTION AS HEADLIGHTS BECAUSE THEY LITERALLY ILLUMINATE NOTHING. I CAN SEE THE SHADOW OF MY TRUCK IN FRONT OF ME IN OTHER VEHICLES HEADLIGHTS AS THEY PASS ME. IF AN OBJECT, AN ANIMAL, OR A PERSON WERE IN THE ROAD IN FRONT OF ME I DOUBT I WOULD BE ABLE TO SEE THEM BEFORE IT WAS TOO LATE. I BELIEVE A SIERRA EQUIPPED WITH THESE HEADLIGHTS WILL LIKELY BE INVOLVED IN A COLLISION WITH SERIOUS INJURY, PROPERTY DAMAGE, OR EVEN DEATH. I CAN ONLY PRAY AND HOPE THAT I'M NOT ONE OF THEM. I PURCHASED THIS TRUCK NEW IN OCTOBER, 2014. MY RESEARCH PRIOR TO PURCHASE SHOWED A NUMBER OF COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE HEADLIGHTS, BUT I DID NOT THINK THERE WERE ENOUGH COMPLAINTS FOR ME TO BE CONCERNED. I WAS WRONG. I LIVE IN A RURAL AREA AND THE HEADLIGHTS ARE DEFINITELY INADEQUATE ON THE LOW BEAM SETTING. THE MECHANICAL SHUTTER DESIGN PRODUCES A VERY SHARP BEAM CUTOFF AT ABOUT THE LEVEL OF THE HOOD, MAKING IT SEEM LIKE YOU ARE SITTING IN A DARKENED AREA ABOVE A BOWL OF LIGHT. THE PROJECTOR HEADLIGHTS PROVIDE LITTLE, IF ANY, ILLUMINATION OF OBJECTS ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. I USE THE FOG/DRIVING LIGHTS CONTINUALLY ON THE TRUCK OR I WOULD NOT FEEL COMFORTABLE DRIVING IT WITH LOW BEAMS IN UNLIT AREAS. FOR THE SAKE OF COMPARISON, I HAVE ATTACHED TWO IMAGES TAKEN ON TWO CONSECUTIVE MORNINGS AT APPROXIMATELY THE SAME LOCATION ON MY DRIVEWAY. THE TRUCK PICTURE WAS TAKEN APPROXIMATELY TEN MINUTES LATER THAN THE CAR PICTURE (BOTH WERE APPROXIMATELY 6:45 A.M.). NOTE THERE IS A SLIGHT PERSPECTIVE SHIFT DUE TO THE HEIGHT DIFFERENCE IN THE VEHICLES AND THE DRIVING/FOG LIGHTS WERE NOT ON ON EITHER VEHICLE WHEN THE PICTURE WAS TAKEN. NOTE THE 25-YEAR OLD TECHNOLOGY SEALED BEAM HEADLIGHTS SHOW THE FENCE POSTS AT THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE VEHICLE WHERE THE GMC'S HEADLIGHTS SHOW A DARK VOID. IT HONESTLY FEELS LIKE YOU ARE DRIVING THROUGH A TUNNEL OF LIGHT IN THE TRUCK. YOU HAVE NO HOPE OF SEEING ANY OBJECTS ON EITHER SIDE OF THE ROAD. THERE IS A TSB ON THIS ISSUE THAT RECOMMENDS REPLACING THE BULBS AND REPROGRAMMING THE BCM. MY TRUCK HAS NOT HAD THIS PERFORMED BECAUSE THE DEALERSHIP DID NOT HAVE THE BULBS IN STOCK WHEN I ASKED ABOUT IT. THERE IS SOME DEBATE ON MESSAGE BOARDS REGARDING WHETHER OR NOT THE UPDATE OFFERS ANY BENEFITS. ADDITIONALLY, THE NEW BULBS ALLEGEDLY HAVE A SIGNIFICANTLY SHORTENED LIFE OVER THE ORIGINALS AND THEY CAN BE DIFFICULT TO LOCATE WHEN NEEDED.

THE BASIC DESIGN OF THE HEADLIGHTS DOES NOT ALLOW FOR A SUFFICIENT LEVEL OF LIGHTING TO SAFELY OPERATE THE VEHICLE AT NIGHT. CANNOT SEE ANYWHERE NEAR THE DISTANCE REQUIRED TO DRIVE SAFELY AT POSTED LIMITS AND NON-EXISTENT SIDE LIGHTING. 2 NEAR MISSES WITH DEER GRAZING ON SIDE OF ROAD AS PROOF. I SPENT THE MONEY FOR GOOD AUXILIARY DRIVING LIGHTS AND A LIGHT BAR TO PUT THEM ON BUT ARE ONLY USEFUL WITH NO ONCOMING TRAFFIC. CURRENT REPLACEMENT BULBS/BCM REPROGRAM CAUSE LIMITED IMPROVEMENT WITH SIGNIFICANT INCREASE IN BULB FAILURE FREQUENCY. 2016 REDESIGN ELIMINATED THESE LIGHTS AND RETROFIT TO 2014/15 HARDWARE IS AVAILABLE. THE THIRD TIME BACK THE BULBS WERE REPLACED PER A BULLETIN AND BCM REPROGRAMMED. STILL NO IMPROVEMENT ESPECIALLY ON THE RIGHT SIDE. THE FOURTH TIME I HAD MY INTELLIGENCE INSULTED WHEN THE SERVICE ADVISER TOLD ME IT WAS BECAUSE THE GARAGE DOOR HE SHONE THEM ON WAS DIRTIER ON THE RIGHT SIDE. THE FIFTH TIME BACK THE PARTS MANAGER HAD ORDERED A NEW BULB FOR THE RIGHT SIDE AND WAS CONSEQUENTLY REPLACED A SECOND TIME. I WROTE A CERTIFIED LETTER THEN TO GM CUSTOMER SERVICE AND WAS CONTACTED BY MARK 1-866-522-0300 EXT.#5921569. HE SAID I WAS SUPPOSED TO TAKE THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP AND LEAVE IT SO THEY COULD DRIVE IT AT NITE. I DID THAT AND IT WAS DRIVEN BY PAUL AND UPON CONTACTING HIM THIS AM HE TOLD ME THE LOW BEAMS WERE ABSOLUTELY TERRIBLE AND OVERALL THE HEADLIGHTS ON THE TRUCK WERE AS LOUSY AS ALL THE 2014 AND 15 TRUCKS ARE. UPON PICKING THE TRUCK UP THIS AFTERNOON THE SAME REDICULIS SERVICE ADVISOR (WALLY) TOLD ME THAT HE DIDN'T DRIVE IT AND PAUL DID AND TOLD HIM THERE WAS NO PROBLEM WITH THE LIGHTS. WHO IS THE LIAR? ISINCERELY BELIEVE IT IS WALLY BECAUSE HE IS BOUND AND DETERMINED NOT TO FIX IT. THE HIGH BEAMS ON THIS VEHICLE ARE WHAT THE LOW BEAMS SHOULD BE. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE AND A $53000 TRUCK SHOULD HAVE SAFE HEADLIGHTS. ON LOW BEAM THERE IS A BLACK CURTAIN ONLY A FEW FEET FROM THE HOOD AND GOING DOWNHILL THAT BLACK IS ALMOST AT THE END OF THE HOOD. I HAVE OVER THE PAST 18 MONTHS TALKED TO FOUR GM REPS AT THE CUSTOMER SERVICE CENTER, WITH THE THIRD ONE TELLING SHE WOULD MAKE ARRANGEMENTS TO REPLACE THE LIGHT SYSTEM WITH THE 2016 SYSTEM. SHE CALLED THE DEALER SETTING IT UP AND THEN NEVER FOLLOWED THROUGH.

THE HIGH BEAM HEADLIGHTS, AS INSTALLED FROM THE FACTORY AND PROPERLY ADJUSTED, ARE INADEQUATE FOR DRIVING ON DARK COUNTRY ROADS AT NIGHT, IN THE ABSENCE OF AMBIENT LIGHTING FROM STREET AND YARD LIGHTS. THE LIGHT IS CAST WELL DOWN THE ROAD, BUT THERE IS TOO LITTLE LIGHT SPREAD TO THE SHOULDERS OF THE ROAD, MAKING PEDESTRIANS AND ANIMALS DIFFICULT TO SEE IF THEY ARE NOT DIRECTLY IN THE ROADWAY. I LIVE IN A RURAL AREA WITH MANY PEACH ORCHARDS AND PASTURES, THEREFORE THERE ARE OFTEN FEW, IF ANY, STREET OR YARD LIGHTS TO PROVIDE ANY AMBIENT LIGHTING. ALSO, MANY OF THE ROADS IN THE AREA HAVE NEITHER PAINTED LINES NOR REFLECTORS TO HELP MARK THE PATH OF TRAVEL AT NIGHT. IF THERE ARE HILLS AND CURVES, THE LIGHT PATTERN AND OUTPUT OF THE FACTORY INSTALLED LIGHTS ON MY 2014 GMC SIERRA MAKE IT DIFFICULT TO DISTINGUISH UNMARKED PAVEMENT FROM THE GRASS ON THE SHOULDERS OF THE ROAD. THE PROJECTOR BEAM HEADLIGHTS ON MY 2 YEAR OLD GMC SIERRA ARE, AND HAVE BEEN, NOTICEABLY DIM TO THE POINT OF BEING A SAFETY CONCERN. IT'S AS IF TRYING TO DRIVE AT NIGHT WHILE WEARING DARK SUNGLASSES. IN ADDITION TO BEING DIM, THERE'S ALSO THE PROBLEM OF SIDE ILLUMINATION. I CAN SEE SOME OF THE ROAD AHEAD, BUT CAN'T SEE THE DITCHES ON EITHER SIDE OF THE ROAD. I CONSIDER THIS LACK OF SIDE ILLUMINATION TO ALSO BE A SAFETY ISSUE, ESPECIALLY WHEN NEGOTIATING TURNS OR CURVES. USING HIGH BEAMS OFFERS LITTLE, IF ANY IMPROVEMENT. THE HIGH BEAMS ONLY SEEM TO SHINE HIGHER (TREE TOP HEIGHT), BUT OFFER NO REAL INCREASE IN EITHER SIDE ILLUMINATION OR ACTUAL BRIGHTNESS. THE "EYE LIDS" LIFT, BUT POOR ILLUMINATION REMAINS UNCHANGED. ABOUT THE ONLY OPTION IS FOR ME TO DRIVE WITH THE FOG LIGHTS ON. USING FOG LIGHTS AT LEAST GIVES A BIT MORE SIDE ILLUMINATION, BUT STILL DOES NOTHING TO ASSIST WITH "DOWN THE ROAD" ILLUMINATION. I'VE BEEN SURPRISED AT SUCH POOR LIGHTING BEING INSTALLED ON AN OTHERWISE GREAT TRUCK. THESE PROJECTOR BEAM HEADLIGHTS WERE SUPPOSEDLY OFFERED AS PART OF PREMIUM PACKAGES. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO VEHICLE HEADLIGHTS DESIGN PROBLEMS. *SMD THE CONSUMER STATED HE DISCOVERED THE HEADLIGHTS ONLY HAD ONE BULB, WHICH MEANT THE HIGH AND LOW BEAMS HAD TO BE ADJUSTED AS ONE UNIT. HE EXITED THE VEHICLE AND MEASURED THE DISTANCE FROM THE VEHICLE TO WHERE THE VISIBILITY ENDED. THE DISTANCE WAS 130 FEET ON BOTH SIDES OF THE ROAD. ALSO, ON A TURN OF 90 OR 120 DEGREES, THERE WAS NO SIDE LIGHTING WHICH MEANT HE HAD TO SLOW DOWN TO A CRAWL IN ORDER TO MAKE A TURN. IN ADDITION, WHEN GOING DOWN HILL, THE VISIBILITY OF THE LIGHTS DECREASED TO ABOUT 20-20 FEET. THE DEALER RAISED THE LIGHTS ABOUT FACTORY SPECS. THE LARGE 8" INTELLILINK RADIO SCREEN IN THIS TRUCK HAS SEPARATE BRIGHTNESS CONTROL FROM THE REST OF THE DASH LIGHTS, INCLUDING THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. DUE TO IT'S SIZE AND COLORED BACKGROUND, THE LCD RADIO SCREEN IS MUCH BRIGHTER THAN THE REST OF THE INTERIOR LIGHTS. THE FACT THAT THE SYSTEM HAS NO NIGHT SCHEME, MEANING IT DOESN'T SHIFT TO A MOSTLY BLACK BACKGROUND AT NIGHT MAKES THIS PROBLEM EVEN WORSE. WHILE IT IS POSSIBLE TO LOWER THE BRIGHTNESS USING A DASH-MOUNTED DIMMER SWITCH, THE DIMMER MUST BE LOWERED TO MINIMUM IN ORDER TO GET THE RADIO SCREEN TO BE A COMFORTABLE BRIGHTNESS LEVEL FOR NIGHT DRIVING. AT THIS POINT, THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER LIGHTS ARE SO DIM AS TO BE EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TO SEE AND AS A RESULT REQUIRE MUCH MORE TIME AND EFFORT TO READ SPEED INFORMATION. THE ONLY WAY TO COMPLETELY TURN OFF THE RADIO SCREEN IS TO GO THROUGH SEVERAL MENUS INTO SETTINGS AND MANUALLY TURN OFF THE SCREEN. NOT ONLY IS THIS A DANGEROUS DISTRACTION WHILE DRIVING BUT IF ANY VEHICLE SETTING SUCH AS RADIO VOLUME, OR HVAC CONTROLS ARE ADJUSTED, THE SCREEN AUTOMATICALLY TURNS BACK ON AND THE PROCESS MUST BE REPEATED. I HAVE CONTACTED GM SEVERAL TIMES ABOUT THIS ISSUE DUE TO ITS DISTRACTING NATURE WHEN DRIVING AT NIGHT AND HAVE BEEN TOLD REPEATEDLY THAT THE SYSTEM IS "OPERATING AS DESIGNED." I FEEL THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE SINCE THE BRIGHT LIGHT IN THE CAB RUINS NIGHT VISION WHILE ALSO DISTRACTING THE DRIVER'S EYES FROM THE ROAD. MY RECOMMENDATION IS FOR A SOFTWARE UPDATE FOR THE INTELLILINK/RADIO SYSTEM TO BE DESIGNED TO ADD A BRIGHTNESS SETTING IN THE SYSTEM MENU TO ALLOW DRIVER'S TO SET THE RADIO SCREEN BRIGHTNESS INDEPENDENTLY OF THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER LIGHTS AND TO ALSO PROGRAM A "NIGHT MODE" COLOR SCHEME THAT WOULD SHIFT FROM THE BLUE ILLUMINATED BACKGROUND USED IN THE DAYTIME TO SOMETHING THAT IS MOSTLY BLACK. *JS

THE PROJECTOR STYLE HEADLIGHTS THIS TRUCK IS EQUIPPED WITH ARE INSUFFICIENT FOR SAFE NIGHT DRIVING WHEN NOT IN A CITY DRIVING CONDITION. THE LOW-BEAMS ARE SATISFACTORY FOR LOWER SPEEDS (IE <45MPH) BUT ARE EXTREMELY EASY TO OUT-DRIVE AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. THE BEAM PATTERN IS ALSO NOT WIDE ENOUGH TO ILLUMINATE ANYTHING OTHER THAN THE AREA DIRECTLY IN FRONT OF THE VEHICLE. THE HIGH BEAMS ARE EVEN WORSE. THE HEADLIGHTS IN THIS TRUCK USE ONE SINGLE FILAMENT BULB FOR EACH HEADLIGHT. WHEN THE HIGH BEAMS ARE TURNED ON, A MECHANICAL SHUTTER OPENS TO ALLOW MORE LIGHT THROUGH THE PROJECTOR LENS. THE LENS IS DESIGNED SUCH THAT THIS ADDITIONAL LIGHT IS AIMED SO HIGH AS TO BE USELESS. PARKED 20FT FROM A WALL, THE CENTER OF THE HIGH BEAM PATTER IS ALREADY SEVERAL FT ABOVE THE BULB LEVEL ON THE WALL. WHEN DRIVING ON A STRAIGHT AND LEVEL ROAD WITH NO TREES, IT IS ACTUALLY IMPOSSIBLE TO EVEN TELL THE HIGH BEAMS ARE ON SINCE THERE IS NO EXTRA BEAM TO ILLUMINATE THE SIDES OF THE ROAD AND THE CENTER BEAM IS POINTED UP INTO THE TREES. *JS

I WOULD LIKE TO ALERT GM THAT THE ILLUMINATION FROM THE HEADLIGHTS ON THE 2014 GMC SIERRA 1500 SLT IS IN MY OPINION, INSUFFICIENT AND DANGEROUS. ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS SINCE PURCHASING MY VEHICLE IN SEPTEMBER 2014, I HAVE HAD TO DOUBLE CHECK TO SEE IF MY HEADLIGHTS WERE ON WHILE DRIVING AT NIGHT. THE PATTERN OF ILLUMINATION EMITTED FROM THE HEADLIGHTS DOES NOT PROVIDE THE VEHICLE OPERATOR WITH AN ADEQUATE AMOUNT OF LIGHTING, ESPECIALLY ON THE SIDES OF THE ROAD TO PREVENT POTENTIAL COLLISIONS WITH BICYCLISTS AND WALKING PEDESTRIANS. WHILE DRIVING FROM ALABAMA TO PENNSYLVANIA IN MY NEW GMC I HAD TO SLOW DOWN TO 15 MPH UNDER THE POSTED LIMIT DUE TO POOR ILLUMINATION OF THE ROAD. THE HIGH BEAM HEADLIGHTS SHINE NO WHERE ON THE ROAD. HIGHWAY DRIVING AT NIGHT WHERE DEAR/VEHICLE COLLISIONS HAPPEN ON A DAILY (OR NIGHTLY) BASIS WITH THE POOR LIGHT OUTPUT OF THE HEADLIGHTS IN THE 2014 SIERRA IS, SIMPLY PUT, TO BE AVOIDED IN MY OPINION AS WELL AS ALL THOSE WHO HAVE RIDDEN WITH ME AT NIGHT. ONE ACTUALLY BELIEVED I WAS JOKING AND ASKED ME TO TURN THE REAL HEADLIGHTS ON, IF THAT SAYS ANYTHING ABOUT WHAT MY COMPLAINT IS ABOUT TODAY. I HAVE AVOIDED NIGHT DRIVING WITH THIS TRUCK IN FAVOR OF A SEDAN EQUIPPED WITH OEM "HIGH INTENSITY DISCHARGE" HEADLIGHTS EVEN THOUGH DEER REPRESENT MORE OF A SIGNIFICANT DANGER DUE TO THE HEIGHT DIFFERENCES BETWEEN THE SEDAN (NISSAN) AND THE PICKUP (14 SIERRA). I DO THIS BECAUSE WITH THE NISSAN'S HID HEADLIGHTS I AM CAPABLE OF SEEING THE DEER (OR PEDESTRIANS, DEBRIS, ETC) FROM AN ADEQUATE ENOUGH DISTANCE THAT ALLOWS ME TO SLOW WAY DOWN OR OTHERWISE ACT ACCORDINGLY. THAT IS NOT AN OPTION WITH THE 2014 GMC SIERRA AND IT'S PROJECTOR HEADLIGHTS. WHILE THE SIERRA MAY PROVIDE ENOUGH LIGHT OUTPUT TO SUFFICE IN WELL LIT TOWNS AND ON WELL LIT ROADWAYS, IT DOES NOT DO SO ON SECLUDED ROADS WHERE DEER ARE MOST PREVALENT AND IN TURN THE MOST DIFFICULT TO SEE. TURNING THE "BRIGHTS" ON MAKES NO DIFFERENCE TO THE ACTUAL AREAS THAT REPRESENT THE POSSIBLE DANGER ONE MIGHT ENCOUNTER SUCH AS PEDESTRIANS, DEBRIS ON THE ROAD, DEER AS PREVIOUSLY MENTIONED, POORLY LIT VEHICLES, ETC. IT DOES HOWEVER ILLUMINATE THE TREES WHICH MIGHT BE HELPFUL TO SOME BUT NOT TOO ME. I UNDERSTAND GM ATTEMPTING TO SAVE WHERE POSSIBLE, BUT GIVE US THAT NEED BETTER PERFORMING HEADLIGHTS HAVE THE FACTORY OPTION TO UPGRADE THEM TO HID'S, I WOULD HAVE PAID FOR IT, AS WE DID WITH THE NISSAN, AND AS MY BROTHER DID WITH HIS FORD F150, BOTH OF WHICH HAVE OUTSTANDING HEADLIGHT OUTPUT THANKS TO THE HID'S. *TR

WORST HEADLIGHT FOR A NEW VEHICLE. I HAVE OWNED VARIOUS GM TRUCKS FROM 1967 TO 2014. NEVER HAVE I OWNED A TRUCK WITH SUCH WORTHLESS HEADLIGHTS LIKE THE PROJECTOR BEAM HEADLIGHTS ON MY 2014 GMC SIERRA 1500 WITH THE ALL TERRAIN PACKAGE. THE PROJECTOR HEADLIGHT ARE VERY DIM AND DO NOT LIGHT THE ROAD MORE THAN 30 FEET AHEAD. AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS (55-70) THE PROJECTOR HEADLIGHTS ARE ONLY LIGHTING A HALF SECOND AHEAD OF YOU. ADDITIONALLY THERE IS NO LIGHTING TO ILLUMINATE THE SHOLDER AT ALL.. YOU MUST DRIVE FULL TIME WITH THE FOG LAMPS ON TO HAVE A SMALL INCREASE IN LIGHTING. WHEN USING THE HIGH BEAMS THERE IS VERY LITTLE EFFECT ON VISIBILITY. EXTREMELY DISAPOINTED IN THE 2014 GMC SIERRA. AND WILL UNLIKELY PURCHASE ANOTHER GM PRODUCT IN THE FUTURE. AFTER 4 VISITS TO THE DEALERSHIP, THEY HAVE AIMED THE HEADLIGHTS UP TO CAST THE LIGHT OUT FURTHER, BUT THE HIGH BEAMS ARE NOW 30 FEET UP IN THE TREES. THE LIGHT IS VERY, VERY DIM OVERALL. I OWN A 2014 MOSSIMO UTV FOUR WHEELER AND THE LIGHTS ARE BRIGHTER AND HAVE MORE DISTANCE THAN MY $50,000 TRUCK, I ALSO OWN A KIA SOUL, A 2013 FORD FUSION, AND A 2014 CHRYSLER TOWN AND COUNTRY. ALL OF THOSE HEADLIGHTS ARE MUCH BRIGHTER AND GIVE GREAT LIGHT DISPERSION ON BOTH SIDES OF THE ROAD AND ARE BRIGHT. MY HEADLIGHTS ARE LIKE A 3 WAY BULB 70/100/125 WATT.MY OTHER CARS ARE LIKE THE 125 AND THE GMC IS LESS THAN THE 70 WATT SETTING...GOOD COMPARISON. GMC IS USING 1 HIR SINGLE FILAMENT BULB WITH A MECHANICAL FLAPPER FOR LOW BEAM. VERY SORRY SET UP. I LIVE IN TENNESSEE WHERE THE ROADS ARE CROOKED AND HAVE NO SHOULDERS.
