I am experiencing episodic loss of power steering assist without warning. This lasts for several seconds then power steering is restored. "StabiliTrak” message may be displayed during the event. On one occasion my radio also went off when my power steering failed. On one occasion my vehicle died shortly after losing power steering which almost resulted in me having a motor vehicle accident. I reported the problem to the GMC dealership and have scheduled the next available appointment to have it serviced.
Rack and pinion went out and installed a new oem remanufactured one from GM directly. The dealership programmed it but it is facing the same issues for the steering going out at low speeds. The recall was already performed but on the old part. GM Program # N172085440 In the parking lot it goes out and I was driving and slowing down for a turn when the steering went out for 3 seconds going 15 mph then returned.

Power steering was going in and out then all of a sudden completely went out.
Electrical glitches happen at both, low speeds and while on the roadway. My steering wheel tightens up and I get a message on the dashboard “Stabilitrak” and another one “assisted steering reduced, drive with care”. My vehicle even shut off on me after pulling in to a parking space after turning steering wheel completely to one side
I know this is a well known issue with these trucks. Have had issues with power steering not working at low speeds which they claim it’s do to low voltage. This has happened numerous times and then on May 3rd I went to back into my driveway off a busy state route with hills on each end of the road. Put my hazard lights on let three vehicles pass and then I turned the wheel and gave it gas soon as the truck got into the middle of the road it shut off. Everything stopped working no hazard lights for about 10seconds and then I had to put the truck into park turn ignition key off and then back on to restart the truck. Again this is all do to low voltage from what everyone else has said with the same issue. There are no warnings what so every even the voltage meter is fine and the truck doesn’t hesitate at all it’s like someone disconnected the battery. I’m sure there is a way for GM to reprogram the pc for the voltage drop. At least have something like radio go out or ac, heat other than the engine and entire electrical shutting off. Something like this is going to get someone killed and GM should be held accountable for these problems.

Upon investigation, the contact discovered NHTSA Campaign Number: 17V414000 (Steering) which was linked to the failure. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer where the contact was informed that the vehicle was previously repaired under the recall and that the vehicle was no longer under recall. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was unknown.
At slow speeds, multiple times, I have had the truck completely have an electrical failure and the engine shut off. I have replaced the negative battery cable and ensured all connections are good. This has happened on streets when turning and in parking lots. When this happens all of the screens in the truck flicker and the service stabilitrack light comes on and then everything goes out, to include the engine. Myself, my family, and other drivers have been out at risk when the truck completely shuts off on a street. The dealership has not been able to give me an answer. There are many forums online where the 2014-2018 year models of this and similar GM vehicles have had the same problem. We need a specific fix for this before someone gets seriously injured or killed.

NHTSA Campaign Number: 14V246000 Q1- my steering column is faulty and it is on the verge of collapse. Q2- every time I hit a pot hole my truck loses control for a second and it has gotten progressively worse. The car sways from left to right without me moving the steering wheel. Q3- I’ve been having suspension problems that have become worse and worse after being told I’m having suspension problems. I fix what I am suggested too and the problems have worsened. Q4 yes it has been inspected and the issue has been overlooked. Q5 if I try to drive the truck again it will fail, I changed my rotors at the beginning of last month and the two front side rotors have been warped and replaced as of Saturday. I drove my truck just fine until tonight I began losing control of it two times. My brakes are beginning to fail. My brand new rotors have been ruined in less than two days. That’s 4 new rotors in a month. When I arrived at home I opened the hood and applied a very small amount of pressure on the steering columns shaft and it had a lot of play. I added a little more pressure and it moves a lot it felt like I could’ve taken it apart with my hands if I really tried. I’m pretty sure I shouldn’t be able to move the steering column shaft with only my hands if the truck is off.
GM has a recall on 2014 GMC Sierra 1500 pick up trucks. This recall if for sudden loss of power assist steering which increases the risk of a crash. I own a 2014 GMC 1500 and it is not included in this recall. My truck is doing exactly what the recall states. first time I lost steering for a second where I could not turn the wheel. Second time it happened the truck had traction control lights come on and the engine quit. Both GM and a local dealer states my truck does not have this recall. Recall on brakes says it's fixed. My brakes fail alot suspension chunks all the time and steering feels like tire is falling off
The truck started making a grinding noise when turning steering wheel left and right. I took the truck to local GM dealer/mechanic for inspection. It was diagnosed as a failing steering rack and recommended replacing the steering rack. A failed steering rack can cause partial or complete loss of steering and potential vehicle accident. As of this time, GMC cannot provide a replacement steering rack and there is no estimated availability timeline.
Power steering assist temporarily goes out while making turns. Lasts for a few seconds then power steering is restored. However, the contact stated that the rack was installed at the time the vehicle was purchased in 2014. The contact stated that the recall remedy failed to fix the vehicle. The contact stated while attempting to reverse, the vehicle lost power steering functionality. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the power steering control module, the steering gear, and tie rod needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. At low speeds my power steering will cut out. Today I almost hit a guy at a gas station when my steering went dead and got stiff for a second then came back. After some research I see over a million trucks were recalled for this.

In the process of making a right turn my power steering suddenly quit working causing my vehicle to cross over into oncoming traffic. There was an eighteen wheeler that had to make a lane change to avoid a collision. At this time I had a warning light come on stating a problem with the power steering. I was able to slowly drive the vehicle to a local repair shop. The shop had to reprogram the steering module. I know my model had a safety recall for that very issue and I had it repaired at a GMC dealer in 2017. Apparently the problem still exists and I called GMC Corporate and was told that my vehicle had been repaired and was to old for any assistance. I now have no confidence in my vehicle knowing that this problem could occur at any time.

Whenever driving I get a message stating that I need to service my trailer brake system. This is most likely due to cheap wiring installed by the manufacture. This has been going on for over a couple of months. Just recently, I was making a slow turn and my vehicle shut off on me and I lost control of my brakes and steering and all power to the vehicle which is a huge safety concern and I am unsure if they are related or not

Driving at certain speeds the truck will just shut off while trying to turn or merge onto the highway. The electronic steering draws to much voltage on the vehicle and it just dies turning and braking after that is a very serious safety hazard and should be looked into I’m a mechanic myself and I’ve replaced grounds done everything I can and still nothing has fixed the issue
We have been told that the recall #17V414 has been completed on our vehicle. However, we have only owned this pickup a little over a year and now the power steering has gone out again. it is throwing a code U0131 which says it is lost communication with power steering control module. We have been told that the power steering module needs to be replaced. I would like to delve into how many people have had to replace this (which is a very EXPENSIVE repair). I truly feel this is still a defect and GMC should own this problem. Thank you for your time.
I was driving on the freeway going about 70 miles a hours lost steering assist about 2 to 3 second. I was driving straight road If was driving in a turn would of lost control maybe hit other cars. Please help with this this.

When you push on the break the vehicle’s power shuts down. Yes it is available for inspection upon request. When steering wheel is turned it dies. After this happens stabilizer light comes on and power steering assist comes on. No inspection has been done called dealership and they said the recall from 2014 had already been done. This is a very serious issue when driving in traffic and I do not want to be in or cause an accident
I had made a appointment to get the recalls resolved at the dealership and I made appointment and everything and they call to confirm thru out the week and then when I showed up they said they couldn’t fix it cause it was a branded title and they didn’t even offer me any other way of fixing it .

THE TRUCK DASH LIGHTS, MEDIA SCREEN AND HEADLIGHTS ALL DIM OR FLICKER AS A TICKING OR POPPING NOISE IS HEARD BEHIND THE DASH MUCH LIKE AN ARCHING ELECTRICAL WIRE. MOST OF THE TIME WHEN THESE SCENARIOS HAPPEN THE DISPLAY ON THE DRIVERS DISPLAY SCREEN READS STABILTRAK WARNING. ALSO WHEN THE PROBLEM OCCURS WHILE TURNING AND BRAKING AT LOW SPEEDS THE TRUCK WILL COMPLETELY LOSE POWER AND POWER STEERING AS WELL AS ASSISTED BRAKING. ONCE THE TRUCK COMES TO A STOP THE IGNITION, AND ALL ELECTRICAL SYSTEMS ARE COMPLETELY UNRESPONSIVE LIKE THE BATTERY IS DEAD. IN ORDER TO START THE TRUCK AGAIN, I HAVE TO GET OUT OF THE TRUCK, OPEN THE ENGINE HOOD AND OSCILLATE BOTH THE NEGATIVE AND POSITIVE BATTERY CABLES. MOST OF THE TIME THE TRUCK WILL START UP AFTER DOING THIS. SOMETIMES I HAVE TO USE BOOSTER CABLES TO GET IT TO START. NEITHER THE CABLES OR THE TERMINAL CONNECTORS ARE LOOSE AS THEY HAVE BEEN INSPECTED BY A DEALER SERVICE TECH AND A LOCAL MECHANIC.

IN FACT, THERE HAS BEEN OCCASION WHEN IT APPEARED TO ME THAT THE STEERING WHEEL APPEARED TO SOMEWHAT STICK OR BRIEFLY FREEZE, AGAIN IN THIS LEFT A HARD LEFT TURN AT A SLOW SPEED. I TOOK THIS VEHICLE TO THE LOCAL GM DEALER TODAY, THE SERVICE MANAGER EVIDENCED THE SAME ISSUE; ALTHOUGH, HE DID NOT KNOW WHAT IS CAUSING THE PROBLEM SUGGESTING THAT I RETURN THE VEHICLE FOR THEIR SERVICE AND REVIEW OVER A DAY WHEN I CAN LEAVE THE VEHICLE WITH THEM.

ON 2 OCCASIONS ( THANKFULLY IN A PARKING LOT AWAY FROM TRAFFIC) THE VEHICLE DIED AFTER THESE MESSAGES AND WOULD NOT RESTART, NO SYSTEMS WOULD RESPOND TO TURNING THE KEY FOR SEVERAL CYCLES. BOTH TIMES THIS HAS HAPPENED I ALSO RECEIVED AN ANTI-THEFT MESSAGE AS WELL. I KNOW THERE IS A RECALL ISSUED FOR THIS BUT GM IS NOT LISTING MY VIN AS AN AFFECTED VEHICLE. THE TRUCK SHUTS OFF WHILE DRIVING WHICH DISABLES THE POWER STEERING, ENGINE AND POWER BRAKING. THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEMS SEEMS TO REBOOT AND TURN BACK ON AFTER A SECOND OR TWO. THIS ALSO HAPPENS OCCASIONALLY WHILE DRIVING AT SLOWER SPEEDS AND TURNING THE STEERING WHEEL OR AFTER HITTING THE TURN SIGNAL. I HAVE HAD THE ENTIRE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM AND ENGINE SHUT OFF WHILE DOING 50MPH ON THE HIGH JUST BECAUSE I TURNED MY TURN SIGNAL ON. THIS HAPPENS EVERY 4 WEEKS OR SO. YOU CAN TELL IT IS ABOUT TO HAPPEN WHEN THE HEADLIGHTS START DEEMING WHEN TAPPING THE BRAKES OR USING THE TURN SIGNAL. IT USUALLY HAPPENS WHEN THE TRUCK IS IN MOTION. IT HAS HAPPENED IN ALL TEMPERATURES. AFTER IT HAPPENS THE CONSOLE STATES "STABLITRAK IS DISABLED".

UPON FURTHER ASSESSMENT AT MY HOUSE STATIONARY TURNING THE WHEEL REACTIVATED THE PROBLEMS AND IT WAS ALSO NOTICED THAT THE LIGHTS WOULD FLICKER AND GO DIM ALONG WITH THE DASHBOARD LIGHTS. LOOKED UP SOME RECALLS AND SAW SOME RECALLS ON 2014 GMC SIERRA WITH LOSS IN POWER STEERING, HOWEVER MY VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THAT. I HAVE A BRAKE RECALL THAT I WILL BE SERVICING AND HOPEFULLY THAT MIGHT SOLVE THIS DANGEROUS ELECTRICAL PROBLEM.

IT ONLY APPLIED TO 2014 MODELS OF BOTH CHEVROLET SILVERADO LD AND GMC SIERRA LD VEHICLES, WHEREAS MY VEHICLE IS A 2014 GMC SIERRA LTD. THEY ADVISED THAT A GMC DEALER COULD "REPROGRAM THE EPS MODULE SOFTWARE", BUT THE COST WOULD COME OUT OF MY POCKET AND THEY WOULDN'T ACKNOWLEDGE ANY FAULT OR RECALL ISSUE. MY CONCERN IS OBVIOUSLY THE FACT I HAVE KIDS AND TRANSPORT THEM TO AND FROM SCHOOL AND SPORTING EVENTS. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO GMC TO REPAIR ON 9/21/2018. MY STEERING HAD ALREADY HAD A RECALL IN 2017 IN WHICH THEY DID A SOFTWARE UPDATE. ONE YEAR, 9/11/2018, LATER, I LOST THE ABILITY TO STEER. THE SERVICE ADVISOR STATED THEY HAD ANOTHER CUSTOMER IN THE WEEK BEFORE WITH THE SAME ISSUE. HE ALSO STATED THEY HAD RECEIVED AN INTERNAL MEMO ABOUT THE ISSUE AND THE FIX WAS CHANGING OUT THE BATTERY CABLES. THEY CHARGED ME OVER $800 FOR THIS REPAIR. BASED ON THE INFORMATION I WAS GIVEN ABOUT THE INTERNAL MEMO AND THE OTHER CUSTOMER WITH THE SAME ISSUE, I FEEL THIS SHOULD BE A RECALL. I CONTACTED GMC ABOUT MY CONCERNS; THE COST OF THE REPAIR AND THE DANGEROUS SITUATION OF LOSING STEERING. ANNABELLE WITH GMC BASICALLY SAID THERE WERE A LOT MORE DANGEROUS ISSUES REPORTED. IT SEEMS THE VEHICLE ISSUE HAS TO RESULT IN AN ACCIDENT OR DEATH BEFORE THEY WILL TAKE IT SERIOUSLY.

SOMETIMES, AFTER A FEW MINUTES THE TRUCK COMES BACK TO NORMAL. THIS HAS HAPPENED TO ME FOR LIKE 10 TIMES IN A PERIOD OF LIKE 15 MONTHS. I HAVE TAKEN TO THE DEALER LIKE 6 TIMES AND THEY HAVEN'T FOUND THE PROBLEM. THEY HAVE CHANGE SOME WIRES FROM THE BATTERY. THEY HAVE REPROGRAM THE SOFTWARE AND NOTHING I STILL HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM. THE TRUCK DIES AT ANY MOMENT. ALL OF THIS HAPPEN WHEN I AM DRIVING THE TRUCK MOST OF THE TIMES AT LOW SPEED AND WHILE TURNING TO THE LEFT OR RIGHT EXCEPT LIKE TWO TIMES THAT OCCURRED WHILE I WAS DRIVING IN THE HIGHWAY. THE MECHANICS IN THE DEALER HAVE DONE ALL KIND OF DIAGNOSTIC THAT THEY HAVE BUT THEY COULD NOT DUPLICATED THE PROBLEM SO THE ANSWER THAT I GET EVERY TIME IS THAT EVERY IS FINE AND THAT THEY COULDN'T DUPLICATED THE PROBLEM.

AROUND 17.000 MILES, THE NOISE HAD GOTTEN WORSE AND THEY WERE ABLE TO LOCATE IT AND REPLACED THE STEERING BOX AS WELL AS THE RACK AND PINION STEERING. AGAIN, A LITTLE AFTER 30,000 MILES THE NOISE WAS BACK BUT INTERMITTENT. THE DEALERSHIP DID NOT HEAR IT AND SAID THE STEERING WAS FINE. YESTERDAY, WITH 40,000 MILES, THE DEALERSHIP SAID THE STEERING GEAR BOX NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AGAIN AS SOMETHING IS BINDING INSIDE ON THE REPLACEMENT STEERING BOX. GM IS DENYING THIS ISSUE YET MY RESEARCH SHOWS MANY PEOPLE WITH THE 2014 GMC SIERRA HAVE OR HAVE HAD THIS PROBLEM. THE ONE TECHNICIAN EVEN TOLD ME HIS STEERING GEAR BOX ON HIS 2014 1500 SIERRA HAD THE SAME PROBLEM AND COMPLEY FAILED. MY RESEARCH SHOWS THAT THIS ELECTRONIC GEAR BOX WAS INTRODUCED IN 2014 AND CHANGED FOR A DIFFERENT STEERING BOX IN 2015 MODELS. AN APPARENT ACKNOWLEDGMENT OF THE PROBLEM.

NOT 24 HOURS AFTER I GET MY TRUCK BACK FOR THE 2ND TIME MY POWER STEERING GOES OUT AGAIN DRIVING DOWN CITY STREET. BRINGING MY TRUCK IN FOR THE 3RD TIME FOR THE SAME ISSUE, THE DEALERSHIP NOW SAYS I HAVE TO PAY THEM $142.00 FOR THEM TO DIAGNOSE WHAT'S WRONG WITH MY TRUCK. I TOOK THE TRUCK FOR A FULL DIAGNOSTIC AT A LOCAL ELECTRIC REPAIR SHOP, FOR $170.00. THE TECH FOUND NOTHING AFTER HOOKING MY TRUCK TO HIS COMPUTER. THE DAY I RETRIEVED MY TRUCK FROM THE ELECTRICAL SHOP, I STOPPED IN WALMART FOR GROCERIES. MY KEY FOB WOULD NOT LOCK OR UNLOCK MY DOORS. I MANUALLY UNLOCKED THE TRUCK TO DETERMINE THAT THE TRUCK WOULD NOT START AT ALL. NO PANEL/ INTERIOR LIGHTS, NO RESPONSE IN IGNITION,NO AUTOMATIC UNLOCKING, THE TRUCK WAS COMPLETELY DEAD. ROADSIDE SERVICE CAME TO TOW IT, AND THE TRUCK WAS JUMPSTARTED FROM HIS BATTERY PACK. THE KEY FOB BEGAN TO WORK, UNLOCKING,ETC. I TOWED THE TRUCK HOME. I HAVE VIN CHECKED MY TRUCK AND THERE ARE NONE BUT I BELIEVE MY VEHICULAR FAILURE REFERS TO GM PART 573 SAFETY RECALL 17V-414 REGARDING THE LOSS OF EPS. A SECONDARY RECALL WHICH MAY APPLY IS GM# 14V26000 RE STEERING LINKAGES, TIE ROD ASSEMBLY.AS THE "STEER ASSIST' ALERT WAS WHAT I SAW. I HAVE THE WORK INVOICE FROM THE ELECTRICAL SHOP, IF NEEDED.

PANICKING FROM THE LOSS I PRESSED MY BRAKES AN ATTEMPT TO BRING VEHICLE TO A STOP BUT WAS UNSUCCESSFUL BECAUSE THE TIRES BEGAN A SLIDE ONCE NOTICING THE TRACTION LOSS I PROCEEDED TO RELEASE BRAKES AND REAPPLY IN HOPES OF GAINING TRACTION THE BRIEF RELIEF FROM BRAKES CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO REGAIN TRACTION AND WHILE I STILL HAVE NO CONTROL OVER STEERING, THE VEHICLE JERKS TOWARDS THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE ROAD AND THE BRAKES BEING REAPPLIED THE VEHICLE CONTINUES TO SLIDE OFF PAVEMENT MAKING CONTACT WITH STOP SIGN AND TELEPHONE POLE.
DURING DRIVING, THE STABILITY SENSORS WOULD GO OFF AND SHOW UP STATING STABILITY TURNED OFF, OR POWER STEERING TURNED OFF. THE VOLTAGE ON VEHICLE WOULD SUDDENLY DROP FROM 15 TO 9 AND THEN BACK UP. THIS WILL USUALLY TURN OFF THE INTERIOR LIGHTS AND ELECTRONICS. I HAVE DISCUSSED THIS WITH OTHER 2014 SIERRA AND SILVERADO OWNERS AND THEY ALL ADVISED THIS WAS OCCURING ON THEIR VEHICLES. THERE IS A GROUND WIRE THAT WAS NOT PROPERLY INSTALLED UNDER THE DASH WHICH CAUSES HIGH RESISTANCE MATERIAL TO CAUSE ELECTRICAL ISSUES. ON OR ABOUT 4 APRIL, 2017 I EXPERIENCED AN ALARM WHILE DRIVING MY 2014 GMC SIERRA. WHILE TRAVELING BETWEEN CONROE TX AND PLANO TX, I RECEIVED A WARNING STEERING STABILITY. THE ALARM CLEARED SO I CHECKED MY OWNERS MANUAL AND IT SAID TO TAKE IT TO A DEALER IF IT DIDN'T CLEAR. I USED ONSTAR AND HAD A DIAGNOSIS DONE ON THE TRUCK. THEY REPORTED NO PROBLEMS. THE NEXT DAY THE TRUCK SHUT DOWN, IN THE MIDDLE OF MAKING A U TURN. MY DAUGHTER THOUGHT SHE HAD KNOCKED IT OUT OF GEAR BUT COULDN'T GET IT TO START UNTIL SHE TURNED IT OFF AND BACK ON. THE SAME THING HAPPENED AGAIN (THIS TIME TO MY WIFE) TURNING INTO A PARKING LOT. SHE TOOK IT TO A GMC DEALER TO HAVE IT CHECKED OUT. THEY FOUND A BROKEN GEAR IN THE ELECTRONIC POWER ASSIST ASSEMBLY. WE HEARD THAT OUR VEHICLE HAD A RECALL # 17276, FOR PROBLEM WITH THE STEERING. I THEN TOOK IT TO THE DEALER WHERE I BOUGHT THE TRUCK AND HAD THE COMPUTER UPDATED TO PREVENT THE PROBLEM. I THEN ASK FOR A REIMBURSEMENT FOR HAVING TO HAVE THE STEERING MODULE AND NEGATIVE BATTERY CABLE REPLACED. I CONTEND THAT, AT THE TIME, THE CAUSE OF THE STEERING PROBLEM CAUSING THE TRUCK TO DIE. WHEN I ASK A TECHNICIAN AT MCKINNEY IF THE RECALL WAS FOR THE PROBLEM, HE SAID: NO THAT IS JUST TO CHANGE AN ERROR IN THE COMPUTER. BACK IN APRIL, THE ONLY THING THEY COULD DO TO POSSIBLY PREVENT THE STALLING WAS TO LOOK FOR SOMETHING LIKE A POWER PROBLEM. GOT A STEERING STABILITY INDICATION WHILE DRIVING ACROSS A BUMPY STRIP ON THE HIGHWAY. LATER, I WOULD GET THE INDICATOR, AND WHEN I DID A HARD TURN, I.E. 90 DEGREES, THE ENGINE WOULD DIE. THE DEALERSHIP ISOLATED THE PROBLEM TO A BROKEN GEAR IN THE ELECTRIC POWER ASSIST, AND REPLACED THE NEGATIVE POWER CABLE ON THE BATTERY. THE COST OF THE REPAIR WOULD HAVE BEEN ABOUT $3600.00, BUT GM PAID ABOUT 75%. IT WAS RECOMMENDED THAT I REPLACE THE NEGATIVE CABLE EVERY 50,000 MILES BY ONE OF THE TECHNICIANS. ANOTHER PROBLEM OCCURRED ABOUT A YEAR AGO CONCERNING THE VAPOR RECOVERY SYSTEM. I GOT A CHECK ENGINE WARNING, TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AND FOUND THAT THE WHOLE SYSTEM WAS COMPLETELY COATED WITH FINE DUST. THEY REPLACED THE VAPOR COLLECTION CANISTER AND ASSOCIATED TUBES AND FILTERS AT A COST OF ABOUT $800.00. GM PICKED UP ABOUT 50%. I LATER CHANGED THE LOCATION OF THE VAPOR COLLECTION TUBE FROM THE (VERY DUSTY) WHEEL WELL, TO UNDER THE HOOD WHERE IT WAS PROTECTED FROM THE DUST. I DON'T BELIEVE EITHER OF THESE PROBLEMS TO BE LACK OF PREVENTIVE MAINTENANCE, BECAUSE NEITHER APPEAR TO BE ABLE TO BE CHECKED OR APPEAR ON REGULAR MAINTENANCE. THE VEHICLE TURNED OFF WHILE MAKING A TURN AT SLOW SPEEDS, AND THE WARNING LIGHT CAME ON AT DRIVING SPEEDS. RELOCATING THE INTAKE ON THE VAPOR RECOVERY SYSTEM APPEARS TO HAVE CURED OR DELAYED THE ONSET OF THE PROBLEM. (I ALSO REMOVE AND BLOW OUT THE FILTER AND THE INTAKE TUBE AT LEAST ONCE A YEAR.)

I NOTICED THE AMP GAUGE WAS BELOW 12 AS IT SEEMED AS IF THE TRUCK ELECTRICAL SYSTEM WAS UNDERPOWERED. I DROVE TEN MILES HOME AND ALL SYSTEMS RESET BY TURNING TRUCK OFF AND STARTING IT UP AGAIN. STEERING WHEEL SPRINGS/SNAPS (HARD) IN THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION THAT THE WHEEL IS BEING TURNED AND STEERING CONTROL IS LOST. WHEN THIS DOES NOT SHUT THE ENGINE OFF, THE ONLY WAY TO REGAIN STEERING CONTROL IS TO RESTART THE VEHICLE. WHEN THIS DOES CAUSE THE ENGINE TO SHUT OFF THE STEERING IS RESTORED WITH THE RESTART. THE STABILI TRAK INDICATOR APPEARS JUST FOR AN INSTANT ON THE DIC WHEN THIS HAPPENS. NOTE: THIS IS NOT THE 'SERVICE STABILI TRAK' INDICATOR BUT MORE LIKE STABILI TRAK HAS BEEN ACTIVATED INDICATOR. THIS HAPPENED FIRST IN REVERSE WHILE BACKING INTO A PARKING SPOT. (THREE TIMES IN REVERSE). THEN IT STARTED HAPPENING IN DRIVE, TWICE WHILE PULLING OUT FROM A STOP SIGN AND ONCE WHILE DOING 15-20 MPH TURNING ONTO A SIDE STREET. THE 15-20 MPH TURNING INSTANCE CAUSED THE ENGINE TO SHUT OFF, STEERING BECAME NON EXISTENT FOR AN INSTANT AND THEN VERY VERY HEAVY. I CROSSED THE OTHER LANE OF TRAFFIC AND ALMOST LANDED IN THE DITCH. THE TRUCK HAS BEEN AT THE DEALERSHIP TWICE FOR A TOTAL OF 14 DAYS, BOTH TIMES 'CANNOT DUPLICATE' WAS THE RESULT. NO CODES ARE BEING GENERATED FROM THESE INSTANCES. CAUSE IS UNKNOWN. THIS PARTICULAR TIME THERE WAS NO ERROR MESSAGE DISPLAYED THIS TIME. USUALLY I GET A MESSAGE WHICH POPS UP ON THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER FORWARD OF THE STEERING WHEEL THAT SAYS 'SERVICE STABILTRAC' OR 'ACTION REQUIRED, STEERING ASSIST IS REDUCED, DRIVE WITH CARE.' IT SEEMS THERE IS A STEERING MALFUNCTION BECAUSE THIS ISSUE USUALLY OCCURS WHILE MAKING A TURN BUT THE TRUCK HAS HAD THIS SAME ERROR MESSAGE WHILE DRIVING STRAIGHT ON THE HIGHWAY. I AM UNSURE OF WHAT THE PROBLEM IS BUT I DO KNOW IT IS DANGEROUS TO DRIVE THIS VEHICLE UNTIL THE PROBLEM IS RESOLVED. TRUCK VIBRATED NEW WITH 8 MILES WHEN WE FIRST DROVE IT HOME. PINPOINTED SPECIFIC SPEEDS AND RETURNED 9+ TIMES TO DEALERSHIP OVER 7 MONTHS. DEALER NOTED BUT WOULD NOT FOLLOW AT DISTANCE AND SPEED REQUIRED TO WITNESS THE "DOG TRACKING". DEALER TOLD ME THEY WERE CLUELESS AND COME GET THE TRUCK. LOCAL AUTO REPAIR SHOP FOLLOWED ME AND SAID THERE IS DEFINITELY A PROBLEM. FRONT CENTER OF WHEEL TO BACK CENTER OF WHEEL MEASURES 1/2 INCH LESS ON DRIVER SIDE THAN PASSENGER SIDE BUT DEALER SAYS THAT IS NOT A GOOD MEASUREMENT BECAUSE THEIR COMPUTER SAYS EVERYTHING IS FINE. THIS TRUCK VIBRATES AND "DOG TRACKS" AND DEALERSHIP REFUSES TO MAKE PROPER OFFER AND HAS GIVEN UP ON REPAIR ATTEMPTS. I AM PRESENTLY SEEKING HELP FROM A DIFFERENT DEALER.

THE PART BROKE IN HALF AT LOW SPEED WHILE I WAS DRIVING IN A CONSTRUCTION AREA (MY OWN DRIVEWAY BEING INSTALLED) I HIT SOMETHING AND THE METAL CASING OF THE AXLE WHERE IT ATTACHES TO THE FRONT DIFF. BROKE IN HALF. I AM 60 YEARS OLD MY WIFE WAS IN THE TRUCK I WAS GOING SO SLOW THE SPEEDOMETER WAS ON 0. THE DEALER SAID THE PART WAS CRACKED BY THE IMPACT. THIS IS SUPPOSED TO BE A HEAVY DUTY 4X4 P/U, IF I WAS GOING AT 40 MPH OFF ROAD WHAT WOULD HAVE BROKE AND WHAT WOULD HAVE BEEN THE RESULT? I THINK THE METAL OF THE CASING WAS FLAWED AND I AM AFRAID TO KEEP THE TRUCK. THE DEALER SAID THIS ISN'T A WARRANTY ISSUE I HAD TO PUT A CLAIM INTO MY INS. THIS IS NOT ONLY A CONCERN FOR SAFETY BUT FOR FINANCES AS WELL. I PAID $44,000. CASH FOR THIS TRUCK, IT IS THE SIERRA SLT NOT ONLY A 4X4 BUT IT HAS 20" RIMS FOR ADDED HEIGHT. THIS WAS NOT HIT HARD ENOUGH TO CRACK A STEEL CASING. THE TRUCK IS AT A GMC/BUICK DEALER IN MOUNT DORA FL. THEY SAID IT MIGHT TAKE AWHILE TO FIND THE PARTS TO FIX IT. I DO NOT THINK GMC MAKES CHEAP TRUCKS OR DANGEROUS TRUCKS BUT I THINK AFTER THIS GETS FIXED I WILL BE LOOKING INTO TRADING IT. *TR
