Headlights on this vehicle, since purchased, have not cast enough light in order to see in unlit backroads, or extrememly dim areas. I have to drive with my brights on constantly, in order to get enough light thrown onto the road, for the left and right sides, as well as the front. These were not working well since purchase. I took my child to a friends house in rural PA, and I literally could NOT SEE THE street signs, let alone far enough down the road. I nearly hit a stone wall.. My eyes keep asking to see more, but truck does not produce enough headlight. I even went to the eye doctor, after that situation, thinking it was my vision dimming, but was told I have 20/20. There needs to be a formal recall. I am not the only one complaining about these HORRIBLE projection headlights. To replace these headlights would cost over 1000K, out of pocket, which is not something I should have to fix. I am complaining now, because with the light getting darker earlier, am noticing how lousy driving at night really is.. and honestly, being BLINDED by oncoming LED's , without having proper headlights on my truck in order to see when blinded, really [XXX]. Lack of illumination of headlights straight ahead. No light shines to the sides of the vehicle making it difficult to see left or right when negotiating a turn at night. I have put new bulbs in both sides the best money can buy at CarQuest with no improvement. The headlight lenses are not dirty or fogged over. It appears to be a design problem, and I have seen other people with this model truck complain about the same thing on some blogs. I contacted GM directly looking for information I can get on a possible upgrade, and they have offered not solution. I have had this issue with this vehicle since buying it used 4.28.2018
Headlights are so dim because of the plastic cover that is made into the OEM headlight assembly. The plastic apparently had no UV protectant and the plastic has turned dingey yellow and clouded where it's affected the light output from the vehicle
Lights are too dim to drive at night. Bulbs have been replaced with 6 different styles but the lights are too dim. Bright lights shine too high to be useful. Spoke with numerous people who have had the same problem.
The stock headlights both low and high beams provide poor lighting at night. The headlights provide a poor beam pattern making it incredibly difficult to see more than 100 ft in front of you while driving down dark roads. And even more difficult in light storm conditions both rain and snow. The high beams aim too high when used and don't show enough of the road in front of you but rather the tops of tree's or other objects instead of the road. The low beams don't provide much light on the sides of the road as well and at times feel more like they're just fog lights with the amount of light that is put out. These incidents happen anywhere from low speeds up to highway speeds. I have noticed this issue since purchasing it used and have seen multiple similar complaints online.
This vehicle has poor headlight performance. I changed the bulbs to no avail. There is no way this 2015 GMC passes vehicle state inspections if they really look. There is very little power to the lights, even on the high-beams. After some quick research - GM has a service bulletin PIT5374 that addresses this very issue. But the dealerships are using this safety defect as a way to generate service volume. Requiring a $170.00 diagnosis to identify a problem they already know exists.
The headlights are very poor. Can hardly see at night. They're no better when on high beams.
The contact owns a 2015 GMC Sierra 1500. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the transmission failed to operate as designed causing the vehicle to sputter and not properly accelerate. Also, the digital speedometer display would not display properly due to a faulty radio. Additionally, the driver’s side headlight failed to properly illuminate due to moisture build-up inside the headlight assembly. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer who was unable to duplicate the failure. There was no service performed on the vehicle. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 1,000.

THE HEADLAMPS ON MY VEHICLE HAVE BEEN VERY POOR, BOTH IN LOW AND HIGH BEAM POSITIONS EVER SINCE I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE. THINKING THAT THEIR MUST BE SOMETHING WRONG WITH THE EXISTING HEADLAMPS, I PURCHASED THE REPLACEMENT BULBS AND THERE WERE NO IMPROVEMENTS. WHEN DRIVING AT NIGHT I HAVE TO STAY ON LOW BEAM WITH THE FOG LIGHTS ON JUST TO HELP TO SEE. I CAN'T USE MY HIGH BEAMS AT ALL BECAUSE THE LIGHTING IS SO POOR. GMC IS AWARE OF THEIR HEADLAMP ISSUES ON THE 2014 AND 15 MODELS BUT NOTHING IS BEING DONE ABOUT IT TO MY KNOWLEDGE. WITHOUT SPENDING $500-$1000 TO CHANGE THEM OVER TO LED, IS THERE ANYTHING THAT I CAN DO TO IMPROVE THIS SITUATION?
THE 3RD BRAKE LIGHT ALLOWED RAIN TO ENTER THE CAB OF TRUCK.(GASKET FAILED) HEADLINER, CARPET ON FLOOR, INSULATION ALL RUINED. DIAGNOSED BY A "WATER DOCTOR" AT THE DEALER WHERE TRUCK WAS PURCHASED. THE FLOOR ON THE PASSENGER FRONT WAS SOAKED, HEADLINER IS STAINED. I REMOVED ALL SEATS, CARPET, INSULATION AND THE SMELL IS STILL THERE. CALLED GMC TO TRY TO GET ASSISTANCE ON REPAIRS. TRUCK IS OUT OF FACTORY WARRANTY. GMC OFFERED $585 LEAVING A BALANCE OF $1300 TO BE PAID BY ME TO REPLACE THE HEADLINER. HOW IS IT THAT THE 3RD BRAKE LIGHT ALLOWS RAIN TO ENTER THE CAB OF THE VEHICLE. ITEMIZED ESTIMATE FROM DEALER TO REPLACE AND PUT TRUCK BACK TOGETHER IS $4500-$5000. MONEY THAT I DON'T HAVE. THIS IS A POOR DESIGN. DID NOT KNOW/REALIZE THAT A GASKET WOULD FAIL AND ALLOW WATER TO LEAK INSIDE. THE TRUCK IS PARKED IN OUR DRIVEWAY OR ON THE STREET. I DO NOT HAVE A GARAGE. I STARTED TAKING THE SEATS AND CARPET OUT THE LAST WEEK OF DECEMBER 2020. OVER THE NEXT FEW WEEKS INSULATION WAS REMOVED. THE MOLDY/MUSTY SMELL REMAINS. GMC WAS CONTACTED APPROXIMATELY THE LAST OF JANUARY OR THE FIRST WEEK OF FEBRUARY 2021. I AM STILL IN TALKS WITH THEM. AARON, CASE MANAGER AT GMC WITH WHOM I HAVE BEEN DEALING. HE IS TRYING TO FIGURE OUT SOMEWAY TO GIVE ME ASSISTANCE IN GETTING MY TRUCK BACK TOGETHER. I DON'T KNOW HOW LONG IT HAS BEEN LEAKING BEFORE I STARTED SMELLING THE MUSTY ODOR.

THE CONTACT STATED THAT HE REPLACED THE BULBS TWICE WITH LED BULBS HOWEVER, THE FAILURE PERSISTED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER AND WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 28,202. CONSUMER STATED VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DEFECTIVE DRIVING LIGHT. WHILE DRIVING HOME THE OTHER NIGHT BOTH HEADLIGHTS FAILED AT THE SAME TIME. LOST BOTH HIGH BEAM AND LOW BEAM. TRIED EVERYTHING TO GET THEM ON WITH NO LUCK. INTERMENT PANEL SHOWED THAT THEY WERE STILL ON. THIS WAS VERY SCARY AND DANGEROUS AS I HAS TRAVELING ON A MAJOR HIGHWAY. LUCKILY I HAD FOG LIGHT TO GIVE ME SOME LIGHT TO GT OFF THE HIGHWAY SAFELY.

WHILE THE HEAD LIGHTS AND FOG LIGHTS ARE ON, THE RIGHT HEAD AND FOG LIGHTS ARE DIM BUT THE LEFT HEAD AND FOG LIGHTS ARE BRIGHT. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE HEADLAMPS WERE EXTREMELY DIM. THE CONTACT STATED THAT HE PULLED OFF OF THE ROADWAY SEVERAL TIMES DUE TO THE HEADLAMP FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO LONE STAR CHEVROLET (18900 NORTHWEST FREEWAY, HOUSTON, TX 770650, AND WAS DIAGNOSED. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE VEHICLE OPERATED AS INTENDED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT WAS THEN INFORMED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS OUTSIDE OF THE 36,000 MILE WARRANTY. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 106,000.

WHEN EXITING FROM ONE HIGHWAY TO ANOTHER IN HEAVY TRAFFIC WERE BREAKING WAS REQUIRED, MY TRUCKS POWER STEERING AND POWER BRAKES HAD COMPLETELY GONE OUT. I WAS ON A STRAIGHT TRACK FOR A HIGHWAY PATROL WHO WAS STANDING OUTSIDE HIS VEHICLE ALONG WITH ANOTHER MOTORIST. AFTER FIGHTING TO STEER THE TRUCK WHILE TRYING TO BRAKE TO AVOID HITTING OTHER MOTORISTS I REALIZED THAT THE TRUCK HAD ALSO DIED. SHOOK UP AND SCARED I STARTED THE TRUCK AND BEGAN TO DRIVE AWAY WITH THE OFFICER YELLING WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU DOING. THE TRUCK HAS DONE THIS SEVERAL TIMES. THREE OF WHICH ALMOST RESULTED IN AN ACCIDENT. IT HAS BEEN IN THE DEALERSHIP WERE THEY TOLD ME IT WAS A HIGH RESISTANCE IN THE NEGATIVE BATTERY CABLE WHICH WAS REPLACED AND RESULTED IN NO CHANGE.

I TOOK THE VEHICLE IN THREE TIMES TO A DEALER OF GMC'S AND THEY DON'T HAVE A SOLUTION. THEY SAID THEY REALIZE THE PROBLEM BUT HANDS ARE TIED BECAUSE I THINK IF THEY START TO FIX IT A CAN OF WORMS WILL BE OPENED UP AND COST THE COMPANY. HOW MANY COMPLAINTS MUST YOU HAVE?

2015 GMC SIERRA SLE / 60K MILES / PROJECTOR HEADLIGHTS...NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS FROM NUMEROUS OTHERS, I'M IN THE SAME BOAT. ILLUMINATION IN GENERAL, DRIVING IN RURAL AREAS, DRIVING IN INCLEMENT WEATHER, MAKING TURNS (SIDE STREETS), ETC., IS HORRIBLE, UNSAFE, NERVE-RACKING AND TROUBLESOME. SURE, THE HEADLIGHTS LOOK SNAZZY, BUT PERFORM ABOUT AS WELL AS MY LAWN TRACTOR'S HEADLIGHTS. I SEE THERE'S A TSB REGARDING THE SITUATION AND, MUCH TO MY DISMAY, I HAVE TO PAY FOR SAID PARTS/LABOR TO CORRECT AN OBVIOUS DESIGN FLAW/SNAFU. AM I CRAZY FOR THINKING THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE? EVEN MORE SHOCKING, IT APPEARS THE BCM REPROGRAMMING (MARGINAL RESULTS) AND LAMP REPLACEMENT IS PROBLEMATIC (INCREASED VOLTAGE TO A BULB/LAMP SHORTENS ITS LIFE CONSIDERABLY). A VEHICLE THAT COSTS 30-40-50K SHOULD NOT HAVE GARBAGE TECHNOLOGY. ON THE PLUS SIDE, AT 48 YEARS YOUNG, MY VISION REMAINS 20/20 AND I DO NOT REQUIRE VISION CORRECTION. THE WIFE, MY 2 KIDS (OF DRIVING AGE) AND MY NEIGHBOR CONCUR - THESE HEADLIGHTS SUCK. I LOVE EVERYTHING ELSE ABOUT THE VEHICLE, BUT IT LOOKS LIKE INSTEAD OF SPENDING $200 FOR THE TSB, I'LL TRY MY LUCK WITH AFTERMARKET REPLACEMENTS FOR $300. VIA MULTIPLE ONLINE VEHICLE FORUMS, MOST WHO'VE GONE THE ROUTE OF TSB ARE MARGINALLY IMPRESSED AND EVERYONE ELECTING TO GO WITH AFTERMARKET IS COMPLETELY SATISFIED...THAT ALONE SHINES A SPOTLIGHT ON THE LACK OF VISIBILITY BOTH THE NHTSA AND GM ARE PROVIDING THE CONSUMER. MAYBE INSTEAD OF PAYING SUITS MILLIONS PER YEAR TO PRODUCE SUBPAR VEHICLES, GM SHOULD DO THE RIGHT THING AND FOCUS ON WHAT MATTERS MOST -- THE PAYING CUSTOMER. YEAH, WE HAVE A BETTER SHOT WITH THE NHTSA HOLDING GM ACCOUNTABLE AND FORCE THEM INTO A RECALL (CORRECTING THE PROBLEM PROPERLY, NOT A WILLY NILLY REPROGRAM AND BULB REPLACEMENT).

THE BULBS IN THE TAIL LIGHTS CORRODE IN PLACE DUE TO EXCESS ROAD GRIME (SALT, SAND, ETC.) BEING SPLASHED UP ON THEM. THIS CAUSES THEM TO BURN OUT PREMATURELY AND REMOVAL IS IMPOSSIBLE DUE TO THE CORROSION OF THE BULB INTO THE SOCKET. THIS RESULTS IN HAVING TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE WIRING HARNESS. ACCORDING TO MY LOCAL GMC DEALERSHIP (WEST HERR), THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM THAT GM ISN'T COVERING. SO, I HAD TO PAY FOR A NEW WIRING HARNESS OUT OF POCKET IN ORDER TO REPLACE ONE OF THE TAIL LIGHT BULBS.

THE STOCK FACTORY HEAD LAMPS/BULBS ARE VERY DIM AND DO NOT LIGHT UP THE SIDE OF THE ROAD OR VERY FAR DOWN THE ROAD AND THE LIGHTS HAVE A VERY SHARP CUT OFF LINE.

THE FAILURE WAS MORE PREVALENT DURING INCLEMENT WEATHER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND DID NOT OFFER ANOTHER OEM LIGHT FIXTURE WITH A HIGHER VOLUME OF LIGHTING. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND DID NOT ASSIST. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 1,000.

NIGHT TIME VISION IS COMPROMISED DUE TO POOR HEADLIGHT ILLUMINATION, MOST NOTABLE IN AREAS OF LOW AMBIENT LIGHTING OR RAIN. THIS HAS BEEN PRESENT SINCE PURCHASED NEW. TRUCK HEADLIGHT BULBS WERE UPDATED UNDER GENERAL MOTORS SERVICE BULLETIN PIT5374B AT LOCAL GMC DEALER WHERE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED. CHARGE FOR THIS UPDATE WAS $149.21. WHILE I DO NOT HOLD THE DEALER RESPONSIBLE FOR THIS CHARGE, I DO FEEL THE SUBSTANDARD LIGHTS SHOULD BE CONSIDERED A MANDATORY SAFETY ISSUE AND DEALT WITH AS SUCH

GM ISSUED A TSB BUT NO RECALL FOR PEOPLE WHO COMPLAINED ABOUT THE HEADLIGHTS.I PURCHASED AT 37K SO AM BEYOND THE 3YR/36K. I AM LOOKING INTO AFTER MARKET FIXES FOR THE PROBLEM. I WAS TOLD THE PROBLEM WAS FIXED IN THE 2016 MODELS.
UNSAFE HEAD LIGHTS AND THE SUPPOSED UPDATED HEADLIGHT ARE ONLY GOOD FOR 12 MONTHS OR 12,000 MILES.. THE REPLACEMENTS HAVE BOTH BURNED OUT ALREADY AT $50 EACH.

HEADLIGHTS ARE INADEQUATE ON HIGH OR LOW BEAMS. IT SEEMS THAT THE LIGHT IS FOCUSED INTO TWO NARROW BEAMS IN AN EFFORT TO MAKE UP FOR THE LOW LUMEN LEVEL OF THE LED BULBS. THESE NARROW BEAMS DON'T LIGHT UP ENOUGH OF WHAT IS IN FRONT OF YOU FOR NIGHT DRIVING. I HAVE TO USE MY FOG LAMPS TO TURN ONTO STREETS WITHOUT STREET LIGHTS ON THE CORNER. THE RECIRCULATING SWITCH FOR THE VENTILATION SYSTEM WILL NOT EVEN REDUCE THE AMOUNT OF OUTSIDE AIR COMING INTO THE CABIN, MUCH LESS OCCLUDE IT. NOT GOOD IN 5 O:CLOCK TRAFFIC OR WHEN YOUR BEHIND A DIESEL BURNER. THE DEALERSHIP ACTS LIKE THEY ARE CLUELESS AND SAY EVERYTHING IS WORKING AS IT SHOULD. AFTER READING THIS FORM WITH SO MANY HEADLIGHT COMPLAINTS, I ASKED IF THEY HAD EVER GOTTEN ANY COMPLAINTS LIKE MINE AND THEY DENIED THAT THEY EVER HAVE; AND THEY DID IT WITH A STRAIGHT FACE!

THE LACK OF ADEQUATE LATERAL LIGHTING MAKES NIGHT DRIVING EXTREMELY UNSAFE AND NEARLY IMPOSSIBLE TO LOOK FOR ANIMALS OR HUMANS THAT MIGHT BE STEPPING IN FRONT OF THE DRIVER. AFTER RESEARCHING THE PROBLEM ON THE INTERNET, I FOUND A GM TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN (#PIT5374) , WHICH INSTRUCTS THE TECH TO REPLACE BOTH HEADLIGHT BULBS, AND TO INCREASE VOLTAGE TO THE HEADLIGHTS VIA THE BODY CONTROL MODULE. I HAD THE DEALER PERFORM THIS TSB IN JUNE OF 2015, BUT SINCE THE UPGRADE, THE PERFORMANCE OF THE HEADLIGHTS IS ONLY SLIGHTLY BETTER. THE TRUCK IS UNCOMFORTABLE TO DRIVE AT NIGHT, AND ESPECIALLY DANGEROUS TO DRIVE AT NIGHT IN THE RAIN. IN ADDITION, ONE OF THE NEW HEADLIGHT BULBS BLEW LAST WEEK, BUT THE GMC DEALER REPLACED IT UNDER WARRANTY ONCE HE LOCATED A BULB AT ANOTHER DEALERSHIP IN TOWN.

THIS VEHICLE IS UNSAFE TO BE DRIVEN AT ANY SPEED DURING THE DARK. SADLY THE HIGH BEAMS ARE COMPLETELY USELESS AS WELL. THERE IS MORE LIGHT OUTPUT WITH THE LOW BEAMS ON IN CONJUNCTION WITH THE FOG LIGHTS (WHICH ISN'T SAYING MUCH) THAN THERE IS WITH THE HIGH BEAMS ON. DRIVING IS THE RAIN IS EVEN WORSE. YOU CANNOT EVEN TELL THAT THE HEADLIGHTS ARE ON THAT'S HOW BAD THEY ARE. I HAVE COMPLAINED SEVERAL TIMES TO TWO DIFFERENT DEALERS AND GM DIRECTLY AND WAS TOLD "THAT'S JUST HOW THEY ARE AND THERE IS NOTHING THAT CAN BE DONE ABOUT THEM". I WAS GIVEN A 2016 SIERRA AS A LOANER VEHICLE WHILE I HAD MY VEHICLE IN FOR THIS AND SEVERAL OTHER ISSUES AND THE HEADLIGHTS ON THE 2016 VEHICLE THEY LOANED ME ARE A BIG IMPROVEMENT OVER THE 2014-15 LIGHTS. GM SHOULD BE FORCED TO RECALL ALL 2014-15 SIERRAS DUE TO THESE SEVERELY HAZARDOUS HEADLIGHTS AND FORCED TO INSTALL THE LIGHTS THAT COME ON THE 2016-17 SIERRAS.

IT IS JUST NOT SAFE DRIVING THIS TRUCK IN THE COUNTRY AT NIGHT. GM TRIED A BRIGHTER BULB BUT THE IMPROVEMENT WAS VERY MINOR. THE PROBLEM IS THE LENSE AND SHUTTER DESIGN.

ON DIMLY LIT HIGHWAYS, YOU CAN'T SEE IN FRONT ON THE VEHICLE. THE HIGH BEAMS DON'T ILLUMINATE THE ROAD SO IT'S SAFER TO USE THE LOW BEAMS AND HOPE THE 100FT VISIBILITY WILL ALLOW YOU TO SLOW SLIGHTLY BEFORE KILLING WHATEVER HUMAN/ANIMAL/OBSTACLE PRESENTS ITSELF. BOUGHT A NEW 2015 SIERRA IN JAN 2016,AFTER I BOUGHT IT I DROVE FROM NEW BRUNSWICK TO MANITOBA AND IT WAS THE SCARIEST NIGHT DRIVE I HAVE EVER HAD (OVER 30 YEARS OF EXPERIENCE )THE LOW BEAMS WERE DIM AND HAD NO USEFUL LIGHT PATTERN, AND HIGH BEAM JUST LIT UP THE TOPS OF TREES AND SIGNS, DRIVING THROUGH ONTARIO'S TWISTY HWY.I ALMOST WENT OFF THE ROAD MANY TIMES ,DUE TO THE POOR LIGHTS YOU WILL CORNER WITH OUT BEING ABLE TO SEE TILL YOUR STRAIGHT AND THE LIGHT HITS THE ROAD AGAIN. WHEN I ARRIVED IN MANITOBA I TOOK THE TRUCK TO A DEALERSHIP ,WHERE THEY REPLACED MY BULBS ,FLASHED THE BCM AND A LINED THE LIGHTS THE LIGHT IS A LITTLE BETTER BUT STILL NOT SAFE AS THEY STILL DON'T PROJECT MUCH LIGHT PATTERN. I CAN'T SEE STREET SIGNS ONLY THE BOTTOM OF THE POLES. AND HIGHS STILL POINT TO THE SKY WITH NO MORE ROAD LIGHT. RETURNED TO NEW BRUNSWICK AND BROUGHT IT TO THE DEALERSHIP TO HAVE IT LOOKED AT AGAIN,AND THE SUGGEST THE SAME FIX AS WHAT THE MANITOBA DEALER JUST DID. STILL CANNOT DRIVE SAFE AT NIGHT.

MY 2015 GMC SIERRA'S HEADLIGHTS PROVIDE HORRIBLE VISIBILITY AT NIGHT, THE OEM PROJECTOR STYLE HEADLIGHTS INSTALLED IN THIS TRUCK ARE DIM, WEAK AND UNSAFE. I BROUGHT MY SIERRA BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY APPLIED TSB #PIT5374 AND UPGRADED THE HEADLIGHTS WITH THE VOLSA HIR BULBS. THIS UPGRADE PROVIDED A NOMINAL INCREASE IN BRIGHTNESS, BUT THE HEADLIGHTS ARE STILL DIM AND UNSAFE FOR USE WHILE DRIVING ON DARK ROADS OR IN THE RAIN. THE DO NOT PROVIDE ANY ILLUMINATION ON THE SIDE OF THE ROADS, ESPECIALLY ON DARK COUNTRY ROADS WHICH MAKES IT HARD TO SEE WILDLIFE AND OTHER POTENTIAL HAZARDS. THE DESIGN OF THE HEADLIGHTS ON THE 2014/2015 GMC SIERRA ARE SEVERELY DEFICIENT. IT IS MY UNDERSTANDING THAT GMC IS FULLY AWARE OF THIS PROBLEM, SO MUCH SO THAT THEY REDESIGNED THE HEADLIGHTS ON THE 2016 GMC SIERRA WHICH HAS THE SIGNIFICANTLY BETTER HID HEADLIGHTS. I HAVE ALREADY LOGGED A COMPLAINT AND SPOKE WITH REPRESENTATIVES FROM GMC WHO LOOKED INTO MY ISSUE AND THE END RESULT WAS THAT THERE WAS NOTHING ELSE THEY COULD DO.

GM IS OBVIOUSLY AWARE OF THE ISSUE AND PERFORMED A BCM UPDATE TO MY VEHICLE TO MAKE THE LIGHTS BRIGHTER BUT THAT FIX STILL DOESN'T RESOLVE THE ISSUE. 2016 MODEL YEARS HAVE A COMPLETELY DIFFERENT HEADLIGHT ALLOWING THOSE TRUCKS TO SEE MUCH BETTER AT NIGHT WHICH TELLS ME THEY ARE AWARE OF THE LIGHTING ISSUES AND FIXED IT FOR THE 2016 GM TRUCKS.

WHEN MAKING A TURN IN AN UN LIT AREA I CAN'T EVEN SEE WHERE THE SIDE OF THE ROAD ENDS. THESE SO CALLED PROJECTOR TYPE HEADLIGHTS DON'T SEEM TO WORK VERY WELL. I KNOW FOR A FACT THE 2014 AND 2015 HAVE THE SAME SET UP. THE 2016 HAS A WHOLE NEW SET UP WITH HID LIGHTING AND WORK GREAT. THIS TELLS ME THAT GM KNOWS THERE IS A PROBLEM. TOOK IT BACK TO DEALERSHIP FOR THEM TO CHECK, AND THEY INDICATED THAT THIS WAS "NORMAL" AND IT WAS JUST THE "CYLINDER DEACTIVATION" FEATURE PERFORMING AS DESIGNED. I EXPLAINED TO THEM THAT CYLINDER DEACTIVATION ONLY TYPICALLY HAPPENS AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS AND ESPECIALLY NOT FROM A STAND STILL. THEY STUCK BY THEIR STORY AND AGAIN STATED THIS WAS NORMAL. MY SON CAME TO SEE ME AND DROVE MY NEW TRUCK. OF COURSE THE TRUCK HESITATED AND SLIPPED FROM A DEAD START. "WHAT'S WRONG WITH YOUR NEW TRUCK DAD?" HE ASKED. I TOLD HIM IT WAS 'NORMAL AND HE JUST ROLLED HIS EYES. THIS IS NOT NORMAL FOR EVERY SIERRA THAT GMC MAKES WITH THE 5.3 ENGINE AND 6 SPEED TRANSMISSION WOULD DO THIS. I HAVE READ ON NUMEROUS MESSAGE BOARDS AND WEBSITES WHERE THIS IS AN ISSUE AND GM NEEDS TO FIX THE PROBLEM. ALSO, THE HEADLIGHTS ARE EXTREMELY DIM AND ARE BARELY USABLE. THERE IS A SERVICE BULLETIN ON THESE TRUCKS SO THEY ARE STILL BEING SOLD OFF THE LOT AND THEY ARE DANGEROUS. IF YOU WOULD TAKE THE TIME TO DRIVE ONE AT NIGHT YOU MIGHT HAVE A BETTER IDEA OF WHAT PEOPLE ARE TALKING ABOUT. I RECENTLY PURCHASED A 2015 GMC SIERRA K1500 SLT. I SELECTED THE SLT FOR THE PROJECTOR HEADLIGHTS WHICH ARE NOT OFFERED ON THE LOWER TRIMS FOR IMPROVED LIGHTING. HOWEVER, THE HEADLIGHTS HAVE EXTREMELY POOR ILLUMINATION (CANNOT SEE OFF TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, VERY DIM, POOR PROJECTION IN FRONT) IN LOW OR HIGH BEAM. THE HEADLIGHTS ARE THE WORST ON ANY VEHICLE THAT I HAVE OWNED OVER THE PAST 35 YEARS. I ALMOST HIT A DEER ON THE ROAD AT NIGHT, DRIVING 35 MPH, BECAUSE THE DEER COULD NOT BE SEEN IN THE VISIBLE ARC OF THE LOW BEAMS UNTIL TOO LATE. THE DEER WAS STANDING ON THE ROAD FOG LINE. THIS VEHICLE HAS A 2 PHASE(LOW/HIGH BEAM) SINGLE LIGHT THAT IS EXTREMELY WEAK/DIM TO THE POINT WHERE IT IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE AT NIGHT. I CANNOT BELIEVE THAT THE EXISTING LIGHTS ARE ACCEPTABLE AND PASSED WHATEVER STANDARD/REGULATION REQUIRED. AT NIGHT, WITH THE LOW BEAMS YOU GET ABOUT 30-50FT OF LIGHT OUTPUT WHICH EQUATES TO LESS THEN A SECOND OF REACTION TIME WHEN DRIVING. THE HIGH BEAMS SIMPLY LIGHTUP ROAD SIGNS TO THE POINT OF BLINDNESS WITH IT REFLECTION BUT DOES NOT LIGHT UP THE ROAD. I TYPICALLY DON'T WRITE UNLESS I FEEL THIS IS COMPLETELY WRONG. GM WON'T ACKNOWLEDGE ANYTHING BUT IT IS ONLY A MATTER OF TIME BEFORE THERE ARE SERIOUS INJURIES AND/OR DEATH DUE DIRECTLY TO THIS PROBLEM. DURING NIGHT OPERATION WITH THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER ADJUSTED TO PROPER BRIGHTNESS THE CENTER CONSOLE LIGHTS AND MOST NOTABLY, THE INTELLILINK SCREEN ARE DANGEROUSLY BRIGHT. THE INTELLILINK SCREEN DOES NOT HAVE AN INDEPENDENT BRIGHTNESS CONTROL FROM THE DIMMER. WHEN SET TO OFF IN AN ATTEMPT TO MITIGATE THE PROBLEM, THE INTELLILINK SCREEN REACTIVATES WITH SUBSYSTEM ADJUSTMENT, E.G. TEMPERATURE ADJUSTMENT, ABSOLUTELY DESTROYING NIGHT VISION OF THE DRIVER. IF ADJUSTING THE BRIGHTNESS LEVEL TO ACCEPTABLE FOR THE CENTER CONSOLE LIGHTING AND INTELLILINK THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER IS SO DIM THAT IT REQUIRES UNSAFE LEVELS OF DRIVER ATTENTION TO PROCESS THE DIMLY LIT INFORMATION.
