In November 2023, my lifters collapsed and I had multiple bent pushrods on my vehicle due to the active fuel management system, leading me to become stalled in my vehicle on the middle of the road with no way of getting off the roadway safely. I have had multiple issues with this vehicle, and know many other who have as well. I had been compliant with all routine and preventative maintenance to this point, and I know that this will lead to injuries or fatalities due to these issues that GM is aware of, yet will not do anything to rectify the situation.
To whom this may concern, This gmc truck with the 6.2 has had constant engine issues regarding the lifters failure causing the engine to destroy itself internally I’ve had to get it repaired every 3 Months on average there’s also a class action lawsuit that applies only to the 2025-2020 years however they are the exact same engine in the 2017. The transmission is not in sync with the motor having a late take off or sounds like the gears are grinding between shifting
Gear slipping since I’ve had the truck. Replaced parts of motor, new transmission installed and still gear slipping entering the second gear. A big jolt happens every time I accelerate and when I slow down about the 10 mph mark it jolts again. Spent well over $10,000 on major truck repairs. I just don’t understand how this truck has 0 recalls. My truck is similar to all of the v8 Sierras of that year and I strongly feel it should have been recalled due to the gears slipping and not enough power.
i have 2017 gmc sierra 1500 6.2l engine i have maintain my service on this vehicle and now facing a complete engine failure due to the poor design of the engine by gmc. i have spoken with alot people and dealer mechnics and they all agree gmc and chvrolet know that this is a bad design but refuse to acept responsiblity for it. there are tousands of people with this same issue we cant fight this on our own we need your help please.
Lifters and rollers failed. Vehicle is at a repair facility and it has been confirmed that the rollers on the cam seized causing metal shavings to build up in the oil. No symptoms or warning lights showed up before the problem was identified.
My truck is currently experiencing the connecting rod and/or crankshaft engine components that may have manufacturing defects that has lead to engine damage and engine failure. My truck is currently being looked at a shop for this exact issue. GM recently recalled more than 597,000 vehicles due to engine failures, according to you, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The recall however only lists vehicles within the years of 2021-2024. My vehicle has the same engine 6.2L V8 gas as the recall and I don't find it a coincidence that I have the same EXACT engine experiencing the same EXACT issue! I attempted to speak to GM but they just kept saying my vehicle is not listed on the recall and refuse to investigate this. I included my conversation with them.
Vehicle went into limp mode. 36 check engine codes popped up all related to cam shaft and lifter issues. Vehicle was taken to a shop and it has been determined that the passenger side lifters and rollers have sized due to the active fuel management system. This is the L86 GM 6.2 liter motor, that has developed the same issues that the L87 motor is being investigated for. There where no tail tail signs or check engine lights that were on prior the the lifter failure.
first we had coil issues then it turned out to be the lifters now we are being told we need a new 6.2l v8 engine.
The contact owns a 2017 GMC Sierra 1500. The contact stated that on four separate occasions while driving at highway speeds, the vehicle shut off with the check engine warning light illuminated. The contact stated that after each failure, the vehicle was towed to a dealer and the contact was informed each time that the failure was related to the active fuel management system. The manufacturer was notified of the failure after the first failure and the contact was informed that the repair would be covered under warranty. The contact stated that each time that the vehicle was towed to a dealer, the lifters and pushrods were replaced under warranty; however, the failure returned almost a month after each repair. After the most recent failure, the dealer pushed the manufacturer to replace the engine. The vehicle was repaired; however, the contact expressed a fear of driving the vehicle due to the repeated failures. The failure mileage was approximately 60,000.

#6 cylinder AFM lifter failure. Inspected by a technician.
Diving my 2017 GMC SIERRA 1500 down the road and all of a sudden it had a big bang in motor, luckily only going 35 miles an hour. Had a slight tick in engine which I had gotten after most recent service visit, and had scheduled to take back to dealer. When I had checked it with a scanner, it only showed a P0700/P0711 code which was for transmission, otherwise no other lights or codes until that day when check engine light came on. Immediately stopped driving and pulled in parking lot and had car towed to dealer that day, [XXX]. They had called me back on [XXX], and said that they had to go further into engine for diagnosis, for extra charges. They called back next day and said that there was a camshaft failure that led to bent rod and metal in engine. Only fix was to replace engine. I then went and talked to them about cost and cause of failure, which is what I previously have stated. I then put in a call to GMC CUSTOMER CARE about the issue, and what they could do to help with issue, because no engine should fail with that few miles on it. Stated also that I had bought vehicle used with factory warranty still on it , and had all service since done at a GMC DEALERSHIP, and that they had all my records. And also, that the previous owner more than likely had all service done at a GMC dealership since it was all under warranty at the time. My service request with them is number [XXX]. My basis is on TSB Bulletin No: 20-NA-142 and Bulletin No: 15-06-01-002M . Which shows that GMC Corporation was aware of issues. At moment I am awaiting response from GMC. On Friday, December 6, 2024, my “check engine light” illuminated on my 2017 GMC Sierra pickup. The engine is the gasoline version of the 5.3 liter. I took my truck to Brogden Buick/GMC in Olathe, KS. They informed me the trouble code was 219a, indicating there was a problem with the fuel/air ratio. On Monday, December 9, 2024, I was contacted and informed the fuel injectors needed to be replaced at a cost of approx. $2700. Based upon research I’ve conducted GM’s fuel injectors have been a service concern since approximately 2014. Service bulletin DCS5097 (N182198000-Special Coverage Engine Fuel Injector) was issued on July 26, 2019 that included my engine configuration. However, this particular bulletin does not appear to cover my Kansas based vehicle. I just had my vehicle at Brogden for a previous check engine light two weeks ago. This required replacing the fuel cell pressure sensor at just over $700. These repairs seem to be related. I’m reading that 2023 and 2024 Chevrolet and GMC trucks are also having fuel injector issues. This seems to be an ongoing problem that GM does not appear to be appropriately addressing. My truck is relatively low mileage with only 58,786 miles. It has never towed, is garage kept and is maintained in a pristine condition. I’ve never experienced fuel injector issues any any previously owned vehicle .
When driving the truck sometimes all the gauges start to go out and go back and forth all the dash lights go on an the whole truck goes to low power an only goes about 10miles per hour you pull over and let it cool down for about 20to30 minutes and can start the truck and drive off again took it’ to the dealer for a plug in and he said no code is showing up and can not help me its been doing this for 1and a half years
lifter going bad
The contact owns a 2017 GMC Sierra 1500. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the vehicle unintendedly decelerated. The vehicle hesitated and was shaking abnormally while accelerating. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the engine had failed due to the pistons misfiring and then collapsing. The contact was informed that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and a case was opened. The failure mileage was approximately 99,000.

My vehicle has on two separate occasions experienced a failure where the steering locks up, the engine shuts down, and the dash displays warnings about stabilitrac and trailer wiring. The vehicle has had random electrical glitches for some time, but they have escalated to a safety issue. In doing research, my issues sound very similar to those issues which resulted in a recall to earlier vehicles of the same generation, on report 17V-414. Googling the issue also points to insufficient grounding at the battery and / or the G218 grounding connection.
The contact owns a 2017 GMC Sierra 1500. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, there was an abnormal sound coming from underneath the vehicle, after which the vehicle lost motive power. The contact was able to continue driving to the destination. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who diagnosed a failure with the torque converter. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure reoccurred 2-months later. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 76,000.

#1 While merging onto the highway, the vehicle began to shake violently and have a sudden lose of power due to a misfire on cylinder 6 and 4. I was unable to merge onto the highway as the vehicle would not accelerate almost causing me to be hit from behind. I was able to get the vehicle off to the shoulder to avoid an accident as it was barely able to stay running and the CEL was flashing. The failed parts (AFM lifters/push rods and VLOM) have been removed from the engine and saved for review. #2 My family's safety was put at risk as the vehicle had a sudden lose of acceleration while trying to merge on the highway almost causing us to be hit from behind. #3 I spoke with my local GMC dealer and explained the situation and diagnosis that I have completed on the vehicle. That wanted me to pay out of pocket to tow the vehicle in and would not cover anything as the vehicle is barley out of powertrain warranty (72695 miles). I have been an engineer in the automotive industry for almost 10 years and can properly diagnose a vehicle and the issue it has. Trouble codes were provided along with pictures and videos as evidence. I understand when something is a safety issue and needs to be addressed as this is a common issue with GM 5.3l and 6.2l engines. I then spoke to GM corporate (Mandy, case# 9-12424996557) and once again they wanted me to pay for everything out of pocket even though this is clearly a safety concern with their product and the diagnosis had already been completed. This vehicle has all the maintenance records since it rolled off the showroom floor, proving that the failure is not related to neglect or poor maintenance of the vehicle. There is very clearly a design issue or manufacturing issue on this components. #4 Components are available for inspection by mfg. #5 There were not warning lights or any other indicators prior to the failure. Oil pressure was at 40PSI and engine temp was ~200F. All within the normal operating windows of the vehicle.
The vehicle would shudder when trying to accelerate. I almost was hit by a semi truck trying to merge onto the freeway. Made an appointment with the mechanic then a couple days later I was at a stop sign and the vehicle would not accelerate at all. I placed in park the tried shifting back into drive and still nothing. I had to turn the vehicle on and off twice before I was able to shift it in drive an it actully would accelerate. Even then it would shudder and not accelerate fully. Very dangerous. Just hit 100k miles. GMC Certified Mechanic said the transmission is shot and needs to be replaced. Cost to replace over $6,000.00 Bought the truck in 2020 for $35,500 and just paid it off.
My 2017 GMC Sierra 1500 Denali started shaking violently and the rpm gage began bouncing 1/4 to 1/2 inch in a very short amount of time. I ran a maintenance facility in Europe with 317 local national and 25 U.S. employees. Two of my brother-in-laws, and one of my nephews are mechanics. Two run their own auto repair facilities. All three reported having to replace torque converters on multiple gmc/chevrolet 1500 trucks. Many at somewhere between 40 and 60 thousand miles. If this is such a systematic problem, and from the number of vehicles they have had to repair it is, why hasn't a recall been issued. Second, in most cases dealerships first charge excessively for replacing the transmission fluid (approximately $900) and then end up replacing the torque converter. The owner has to pay for the transfluid replacement out of pocket because it is considered maintenance instead of replacing the torque converter at company expense...especially if you purchased and extended warranty through a third party. If this is recalled, owners should be reimbursed if they had to pay for it themselves and they should be required to replace the transmission fluid filter as a part of the repair,
I took my 2017 GMC Sierra 1500 SLE in to my local dealer because the engine was misfiring and there was a loud ticking noise coming from the engine. There was a sudden onset of loss of power, sluggish acceleration and shuttering. The dealership technicians did their diagnostics and found "cyl 1 miss fire removed valve cover and rocker arm found cyl 1 intake push rod bent replaced cyl 1 rocker arm push rods and all driver side lifters re[placed v loam resealed all 8 injectors cleared code miss fire is cured." This is a known GM issue as pursuant to service bulletin 15-06-01-002L. Upon further research from other complaints it was reveled to be caused by KNOWN defective or sub-par components being continually installed in GM vehicles. GM has knowledge of this issue and should take ownership of their shawty and deceptive work practices.
Service Trailer Brake System. This has happened in the past 3 Times, in which the local GMC Dealership has made me pay for New Batteries and other Fuel system issues. Dealership stated that this shows up because of a bad battery.
The contact owns a 2017 GMC Sierra 1500. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the vehicle jerked and stalled with the check engine warning light illuminated. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that there were no recalls on the VIN related to the failure. The contact was referred to the dealer for assistance. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The failure mileage was unknown.
At 48k miles with all service maintenance performed by GM dealer I experienced a ticking noise and loss of engine power. The vehicle was taken to dealership and I was told it was a lifter problem with no explanation of how or why this has happened. I was without a vehicle for 3 weeks. I picked up the vehicle and was told the vehicle was repaired only to still find the vehicle had hesitation while driving and still had a ticking noise in the engine. I returned the vehicle and am now told the engine needs to be replaced. I was also told that I am responsible for the cost of repairs. I found a class action has been filed against GM for this issue. I have been told that GM does not have a recall issued yet I was told at the dealership they have seen this happen and GM has a Service Technician report on how to fix this issue. At this time my vehicle is sitting at the dealership awaiting a response from GM to see if they will take any responsibility. My truck has been at the dealership since August 7, 2023. I have paid almost $2k and was told I would owe an additional $9300. to replace the engine. I do not have paperwork from the dealership to show service work performed. The dealership has not closed out my ticket however I have paid almost $2k for work performed. The dealership said that they matched the cost I have spent but I have no record of their costs.
Truck started to jerk if driven over 20 mph. Before this the dashboard (electric) notification showed truck heating up but the temperature gage was not reading any overheating. Prior to this the whole electrical system in the truck started to mess up. The radio changed channels without actually changing the radio channels. Unable to connect the Bluetooth because it calls my phone contacts at random. Had to get a new transmission that cost 5,000 and this was recent. The truck is still jerking but is drivable over 20 mph.
hard shift when taking off and excessive burning of oil
Misfire with code PO300, Ticketing from engine at higher RPM/lose power and seems to be misfiring. Check engine light would blink and then shut off. Four rockers found to be bent push rod. - Replaced right and left side lifters and guides. Replaced Vlom and 1 push rod. Dealer diagnose and repair. Lifter failure due to engine switching from V8 to V4. Very expensive and very common problem with this type of engine. Truck is young with only 74,000 miles on it. Had to replace the transmission at 70,000 also.
Over some time we had noticed a chirping / pulsating sound when starting the engine after it was fully cooled down. Cold start. This sound over the last few months has been increasingly getting worse. We asked our dealer to check things over and determine what could be the issue on a regular service visit for oil change. They could not find a reason but said a service visit with a full line mechanic would be needed to diagnose the issue. We did our own closer look and diagnosing just where the sound and smell of oil fumes or gases were coming from and found the Left side (drivers) rear / back cylinder exhaust manifold bolts to be broken off and gone. There are a total of 5 studs and the rear two had failed and gave away to now allow the exhaust manifold to leak exhaust fumes that are obvious in the cab at startup. This is a pretty major failure and safety problem we feel that GM needs to take action on and correct.
As I am driving the truck I notice that as the accelerator is pressed the truck does not respond as it should. I have taken this to a service repair shop and they have stated it is a ongoing issue with these vehicles. So I have taken it upon myself to look online and sure enough OTHERS have also states the same things.
The contact owns a 2017 GMC Sierra 1500. The contact stated while driving 55 MPH, the vehicle began to shift hard, started shuddering, and lost electrical power. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact was able to push the vehicle to the side of the road with assistance. The contact was able to restart the vehicle however, the vehicle was shifting hard and was shuddering while driving. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer where it was diagnosed that the main power cord had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure persisted. The vehicle was taken to a second dealer; Fresno Buick GMC (5515 N Blackstone Ave, Fresno, CA 93710) where it was diagnosed that the transmission torque converter and the engine mounts needed to be replaced. Additionally, the dealer diagnosed that the coolant reservoir had failed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure through email. The failure mileage was approximately 56,000.

Greetings, he has a complaint from our consumers in the United Arab Emirates to the agent, and he is using incorrect oils in the atmosphere and nature of the region
The contact owns a 2017 GMC Sierra 1500. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the vehicle would hesitate and jerk upon acceleration without warning. The contact also stated that while driving at an unknown speed, the vehicle stalled with the check engine warning light illuminated on the instrument panel. The contact had taken the vehicle to a dealer and was informed that there was a service bulletin that was linked to the failure. Moisture could enter the vehicle through the headlights and cause the electrical and transmission failures the contact was experiencing. The contact was given an estimate for the repair. The contact then called Tameron Buick GMC (27161 US-98, Daphne, AL 36526) and it was stated that they were unaware of such a failure. The manufacturer had yet to be notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 12,000.

THE SAME ISSUE AS GM SERVICE BULLETIN PI1513F (RADIATOR LEAK) HAS HAPPENED ON MY 2017 GMC SIERRA. THIS SERVICE BULLETIN CURRENTLY COVERS 2014 - 2016 MODELS AND NEEDS TO BE EXTENDED TO COVER 2017 MODELS (AND POSSIBLY 2018). THIS ISSUE IS A RADIATOR THAT LEAKS ON THE PASSENGER OR DRIVERS SIDE ON THE WALL BETWEEN THE COOLING FINS AND THE END OF THE RADIATOR. *TR

OUR TRUCK IS LESS THAN THREE YEARS OLD WITH APPROXIMATELY 69000 MILES. THE TRANSMISSION JUST STARTED SLIPPING OUT OF THE BLUE WHILE DRIVING THRU A NEIGHBORHOOD. WHILE IN DRIVE IT WOULD MOVE BUT ONCE ACCELERATING IT WOULD REV UP AND NOT CHANGE GEARS. THIS HAPPENED WITHOUT WARNING, WITHOUT AN ENGINE OR WARNING LIGHT. WE DO ALL THE NECESSARY REGULAR MAINTENANCE. IN ADDITION TWO YEARS AGO WHILE THE TRUCK WAS A YEAR OLD, THE BRAKES WENT OUT WHILE DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE. I GUESS IT WAS THE BRAKE VACUUM PUMP OR WHATEVER THAT DIDN'T ALLOW THE BRAKE PEDDLE TO BE PRESSED WHICH PROVIDED ME WITH NO BRAKES. AGAIN WITH ABSOLUTELY NO WARNING! THIS LATER BECAME RECALL ISSUE BUT NOT BEFORE IT HAD ALREADY HAPPENED TO ME! I UNDERSTAND THERE IS A CLASS ACTION LAW SUIT AGAINST GMC FOR TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS AND I WOULD CONSIDER BEING A PART OF THIS. THIS IS A 50;000$ AND RELATIVELY NEW TRUCK, THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE! THE DEALER NOW WANTS OVER 4000$ FOR REPAIRS. *TR

MY RADIATOR HAS DEVELOPED A LEAK AND COOLANT IS ESCAPING WHEN ENGINE IS HOT. THE ISSUE APPEARS TO BE VERY SIMILAR TO THE INCIDENTS WITH THE 2014-15 MODEL YEAR ISSUE. THE PROBLEM WAS DIAGNOSED TO BE A LEAKING RADIATOR NEAR THE TOP RIGHT SIDE BY AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED IN JANUARY 2017, SINCE THE PURCHASE OF THE VEHICLE, I HAVE HAD THE TRUCK IN THE SHOP ON 6 OCCASIONS. THE VEHICLE HAS HAD 5 INJECTORS REPLACED AND THE UPPER OIL PAN GASKET HAS BEEN REPLACED TWICE. GMC IS STALLING ME AND NOT WANTING TO PURCHASE THE VEHICLE BACK UNDER THE BUY BACK PROGRAM COMMONLY CALLED THE LEMON LAW. THE VEHICLE HAS AN EXTENDED WARRANTY AND I HAVE BEEN CHARGED A CO-PAY WITH THE REPAIRS ON THE VEHICLE. THE ISSUES STARTED AFTER THE 30000 MILE SERVICE.

1. THE TRANSMISSION SHIFTS EXTREMELY ROUGH FROM 1ST TO 2ND GEAR IN PARKING LOTS AT A SLOW SPEED AND ON NORMAL HIGHWAY OR STREET DRIVING AND EXPERIENCES THE SAME THING WHILE SLOWING DOWN TO STOP 2. THE ENGINE HAS RECENTLY BEEN HAVING A AWKWARD SHAKE TO IT WHILE IN IDEAL AFTER IT HAS BEEN RUNNING AND WARM 3. WHILE BACKING UP AND TURNING THE WHEEL, THE FRONT SUSPENSION WILL LET OUT A LOUD CLUNK SOUND AND THE SOUND WILL RETURN WHEN TURNING THE WHEELS BACK FORWARD AFTER PUTTING IT INTO DRIVE.
THE VEHICLE WHICH HAS UNDER SEVEN HUNDRED MILES ON IT DOES THE FOLLOWING: WHEN I TRY TO ACCELERATE THE VEHICLE STARTS TO MISFIRE, STARTS TO CHUG AND JERK, IT STARTS TO HESITATE AND BECOMES ROUGH. WHEN I CALLED GMC SERVICE DEPARTMENT I WAS TOLD THERE WAS A CODE FOR THIS PROBLEM #PIP5457B BUT THAT CURRENTLY THERE IS NO KNOWN REASON AND NO KNOWN REPAIR AND NO KNOWN COMPUTER CODE TO REPAIR THE PROBLEM. I TRIED TO MERGE ONTO THE INTERSTATE HIGHWAY AND NEEDED TO SPEED UP BUT THE TRUCK STARTED TO LURCH; I NEARLY GOT REAR ENDED. I CAN'T DRIVE UP A HILL IN THE CITY OR ON THE INTERSTATE AND KEEP UP WITH THE FLOW OF TRAFFIC BECAUSE THE TRANSMISSION STARTS TO SPUTTER. MY WIFE AND I ARE AFRAID TO DRIVE THIS VEHICLE. WE JUST PAID NEARLY $49,000 FOR THIS GMC SIERRA 2017 AND ONLY OWNED IT FOR ONE WEEK WHEN THIS STARTED TO HAPPEN. IT DOES THIS ALL THE TIME. VERY DANGEROUS!
