Transmission Hard shifts 1-2 or 2-3 Delayed engagement into Drive/Reverse Shudder at 30–60 mph Slipping under light throttle Clunk when stopping The risk I've described to the dealer is that the hard shifts at stop and go in heavy traffic situations could cause and accident. Yes the issue has been confirmed at the dealer and they replaced the transmission. That did not resolve the issue. It has not been inspected. No warnings.

Driving in town going 20mph and the truck shut down not allowing for braking or gas and the steering locked up. Placed the vehicle in neutral, shut the truck off and turned it back. Was able to continue driving. Attempted to have the dealership we bought it from run a diagnostic and the battery was replaced but it continues to shut down at random times. Took the truck to a local auto shop after this happened again, another diagnostic was run, I am waiting the report to confirm what was done.

In November 2023, my lifters collapsed and I had multiple bent pushrods on my vehicle due to the active fuel management system, leading me to become stalled in my vehicle on the middle of the road with no way of getting off the roadway safely. I have had multiple issues with this vehicle, and know many other who have as well. I had been compliant with all routine and preventative maintenance to this point, and I know that this will lead to injuries or fatalities due to these issues that GM is aware of, yet will not do anything to rectify the situation.

To whom this may concern, This gmc truck with the 6.2 has had constant engine issues regarding the lifters failure causing the engine to destroy itself internally I’ve had to get it repaired every 3 Months on average there’s also a class action lawsuit that applies only to the 2025-2020 years however they are the exact same engine in the 2017. The transmission is not in sync with the motor having a late take off or sounds like the gears are grinding between shifting

I had to replace my transmission at 71902 miles. I complained to Flow GMC dealership over seven times about the Vibration , jerking, shaking and shuddering. Most of the time when I carried they said they can not duplicate the problem. On Feb. 05, 2025 I was driving and stopped at a stop light when I pulled off the vehicle started vibrating, shaking and had a hard jerk. I thought someone had ran in the back of me but that was not the case . I had it pulled in to Flow GMC they checked it out and said the transmission need to be replaced. I had it replaced at the dealership. I had to pay $7782 to get a new transmission. I read were they being are all on some GMC models. I want to know why the 2017 GMC has not been recalled.

When shifting down to a low gear at an abrupt stop the transmission will hit hard causing vehicle to brake harder and has almost gotten in accidents because it seems to push itself a bit.

Original issue started at about 60K miles regarding hard shifts and clunking with acceleration with my 2017 Sierra 6 speed transmission. I had it inspected by the dealer when I purchased it, told it was normal for this model. Had it inspected by independent shops, told that this is a known issue, but not fixable without a new transmission. At 90K miles, began experiencing a whining sound while idling. Told it is in the torque converter/transmission housing but I could not afford the thousands of dollars for replacement/inspection. I had the transmission fluid serviced and changed as recommended with the dextran ATF that GM recommends in the manual both at 60K miles, and again at 100K miles as recommended. I also drive the vehicle reasonably, yet still at 130K miles had the transmission and converter fail. With no warning, no check engine lights or vehicle codes. Even after I lost 5th and 6th gear, there were no warnings or alert in my truck and despite the transmission giving out while on the highway. I feel this is a huge safety concern with both GM torque converter and transmission issues being known, as well as my vehicle not giving any warnings before, during, or after my transmission failing. I have had the warning lights checked as well, I’m told they are fully functioning when tested, so for some reason there seems to be an inherent issue with the truck’s warning system.

I see you are investigating GM on their 2019 to newer vehicles with the v-8 motors over the active fuel management stuff causing motors to blow, I’ve got a 2017 gmc with 5.3 with 30,000 miles and have issues with it over that mess. Just wondering why vehicles back to 2015 aren’t included in it that have that active fuel management stuff that are having problems? Thanks

Transmission went out as I was pulling into traffic, no warning lights on dash and no issues until this incident and had it towed to the dealership where I was told it would be $6600 to replace the transmission and that it was completely in operable. My truck is a 2017 with 53816 actual miles. Called gm company and they will not help with repairs at all.

Diving my 2017 GMC SIERRA 1500 down the road and all of a sudden it had a big bang in motor, luckily only going 35 miles an hour. Had a slight tick in engine which I had gotten after most recent service visit, and had scheduled to take back to dealer. When I had checked it with a scanner, it only showed a P0700/P0711 code which was for transmission, otherwise no other lights or codes until that day when check engine light came on. Immediately stopped driving and pulled in parking lot and had car towed to dealer that day, [XXX]. They had called me back on [XXX], and said that they had to go further into engine for diagnosis, for extra charges. They called back next day and said that there was a camshaft failure that led to bent rod and metal in engine. Only fix was to replace engine. I then went and talked to them about cost and cause of failure, which is what I previously have stated. I then put in a call to GMC CUSTOMER CARE about the issue, and what they could do to help with issue, because no engine should fail with that few miles on it. Stated also that I had bought vehicle used with factory warranty still on it , and had all service since done at a GMC DEALERSHIP, and that they had all my records. And also, that the previous owner more than likely had all service done at a GMC dealership since it was all under warranty at the time. My service request with them is number [XXX]. My basis is on TSB Bulletin No: 20-NA-142 and Bulletin No: 15-06-01-002M . Which shows that GMC Corporation was aware of issues. At moment I am awaiting response from GMC. I have been experiencing trasmission problems. The vehicle jerks, shutters and makes numerous thumping sounds during acceleration as well as at certain constant speeds. It frequently make a lound clunking sound when first put in drive and beginning to move. On January 16, 2025, I took the truck to Rubideaux GMC, 351 W Dalton Ave, Hayden ID 83835, for inspection. I was told that the torque converter "was shot" and that the transmission fluid was scorched and there metal shavings in the transmission filter. The service manager informed me that I needed a new transmission at a cost of $7,000. the dealer told me that they will have to find a remanufactured replacement which by their description are in short supply. I went to an independent shop in the area and was quoted a similar price. The employee also advised me of a class action law suite that was in process for 2016-2020 GM trucks and SUV's and passenger cars equipped with the model 8L transmission with the same problem. Several suits are under way including, [XXX] et al v GM, I find this situation especially concerning given the very gentle treatment Ive given this vehicle since I purchased it new. The truck only has 63,000 miles on it and I have never towed anything with this vehicle nor carried any load of more than a couple oh hundred pounds in the bed of the truck. What component failed? Transmission. The transmission is still in the truck pending available replacement. How was your safety put at risk? The transmission could fail while driving causing a lack of vehicle control. Has the problem been reproduced by a dealer? Yes it was confirmed by the dealership listed above. Has vehicle been inspected by the manufacturer, police, or insurance? It has been inspected by a licensed GMC dealer. Where there any warning lamps, messages or other symptons.....? No INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

Vehicle torque converter broke internally at 76000 miles while on the highway, causing vehicle immobile while traveling at 55 mph. Almost rear ended trying to get off highway safely. Torque converter failure caused transmission to have to be rebuilt at a cost of $4,700. After doing some research it is a very common and defective problem with trucks using 6l80 transmission.

My complaint number 11461471 , I made this complaint on 04/20/2022 about my 2017 GMC Sierra 1500.my truck is have the same problems that the GMC trucks recalled. As I stated when I filed my complaint with NHTSA and GMC. I carried my truck back to the dealership 7 times and complained about the problem. Once my warranty expired no one want to talk about the problem with the transmission. I started having problems in September 2017 my truck had 6,949 miles. I have paperwork every time I carried it to gmc dealership. NHTSA need to look at the problem with the 2017 Sierra too.

The automatic transmission occasionally slips and slams hard into gear between first and second gears, causing the truck to lunge forward when attempting to stop. This could potentially cause the truck to hit another person or vehicle when attempting to stop. This problem was immediately observed upon receiving the new truck in 2017 and is ocurring more frequently over time. The problem was reported to and taken in to the GMC dealer. They advised that they were unable to reproduce the problem during their time with the truck. There have been no safety incidents thus far. No warning lamps or messages have been displayed on the dashboard.

8 speed transmission shudder reported by GMC for my model. My truck has 35,500 miles and has the shudder posted in a technical service bulletin by GM. The supposed fix is x 20 quart fluid flush, new filter, and flash the computer. GM will not cover under any warranty as they say this is a “fluid change” even though the manual says this fluid should not be changed until 72,000 miles. The dealerships act like they are just hearing about this which is a total lie. They were told over a year ago if they had any new on lot to change the transmission fluid to mobile one synthetic before selling them. This should be a recall as GM knew this was an issue during manufacture. This is a $1200 repair that should be covered by GM.

#1 While merging onto the highway, the vehicle began to shake violently and have a sudden lose of power due to a misfire on cylinder 6 and 4. I was unable to merge onto the highway as the vehicle would not accelerate almost causing me to be hit from behind. I was able to get the vehicle off to the shoulder to avoid an accident as it was barely able to stay running and the CEL was flashing. The failed parts (AFM lifters/push rods and VLOM) have been removed from the engine and saved for review. #2 My family's safety was put at risk as the vehicle had a sudden lose of acceleration while trying to merge on the highway almost causing us to be hit from behind. #3 I spoke with my local GMC dealer and explained the situation and diagnosis that I have completed on the vehicle. That wanted me to pay out of pocket to tow the vehicle in and would not cover anything as the vehicle is barley out of powertrain warranty (72695 miles). I have been an engineer in the automotive industry for almost 10 years and can properly diagnose a vehicle and the issue it has. Trouble codes were provided along with pictures and videos as evidence. I understand when something is a safety issue and needs to be addressed as this is a common issue with GM 5.3l and 6.2l engines. I then spoke to GM corporate (Mandy, case# 9-12424996557) and once again they wanted me to pay for everything out of pocket even though this is clearly a safety concern with their product and the diagnosis had already been completed. This vehicle has all the maintenance records since it rolled off the showroom floor, proving that the failure is not related to neglect or poor maintenance of the vehicle. There is very clearly a design issue or manufacturing issue on this components. #4 Components are available for inspection by mfg. #5 There were not warning lights or any other indicators prior to the failure. Oil pressure was at 40PSI and engine temp was ~200F. All within the normal operating windows of the vehicle.

The vehicle would shudder when trying to accelerate. I almost was hit by a semi truck trying to merge onto the freeway. Made an appointment with the mechanic then a couple days later I was at a stop sign and the vehicle would not accelerate at all. I placed in park the tried shifting back into drive and still nothing. I had to turn the vehicle on and off twice before I was able to shift it in drive an it actully would accelerate. Even then it would shudder and not accelerate fully. Very dangerous. Just hit 100k miles. GMC Certified Mechanic said the transmission is shot and needs to be replaced. Cost to replace over $6,000.00 Bought the truck in 2020 for $35,500 and just paid it off.

Experienced hard shifting in my transmission a couple before it all of the sudden it made a thing noise and didn’t want to move forward to easy. Babied it home and by then it was whining and whistling all the time. I Quit driving it immediately and had it towed. Being only a 2017 I can’t believe this happened. Plus I had a 2014 prior to this and I had the same issue but traded it off before it went all the way out. After going to social media I am finding out that so many people with mid to late model 2000s have had this same issue, even family. Plus I was told by 2 different transmission places this is very common in these with Chevy and GMC model trucks. How could this be going on? I am assuming because people don’t know to report. Being on disability and a fixed income this took a hit to my bank account, actually a home equity loan.

I purchased the vehicle in November or December 2022. Since then I’ve had problems with my transmission. The torque converter was replaced 2 times, it’s been in the shop 5-6 times and nothing fixed under the warranty when I purchased it. Finally the dealer I purchased from said they won’t take the vehicle back and won’t spend any more money on fixing the truck. Now it has become on my dime to figure it out since I gave up trying to have a shop diagnose and fix it. The last shop said I would have to pay to have the transmission removed and possibly have the valve body replaced since the dealer I purchased it from gave the second shop one chance to get it right. The transmission downshifts hard and clunks since the first day of purchase. Makes a weird wining noise still til this day. I have spoken with the owners of the dealership and they did not seem to care about my problem.

Transmission temperature sensor has failed. It is available for internal inspection within the transmission pan. Safety has not been in issue, but, apparently it can cause hard shifting when the sensor starts to go bad. You can also easily tell when the sensor is going bad by watching your trans fluid temp needle. It will erratically bounce up and down, sometimes slightly and other times it's big jumps, so you will not be able to tell if the transmission is overheating or running at normal operating temperature. The problem has been confirmed by a local service center. The vehicle/component has not been inspected. There has not been any problems prior to this issue. The check engine light came on 1/24/24 in the evening time. Check engine codes are P0711 & P0700. This is a known issue between 2015-2018 GM vehicle equipped with the 6.2L & 8-speed transmission. There is/was a special warranty number, #N192291660, that qualifies with the 2016 models.

I was driving my truck home from work, when all the sudden the car at a stop sign lurch forward, with the brake applied and was not moving, or I would have hit the car in front of me. Upon, the green light, truck started to shift and go faster, while making a whining noise, at only 26 miles per hour, then, the vehicle, tried to speed up with nothing engaging, and came to a complete stop very aggressively and abruptly, while in traffic, I almost was hit from the sudden stop. Getting to the side of the road, the truck wouldn’t move anymore, and except in rear gear. Called OnStar service and vehicle was towed to the closest GM dealership, about a mile from my house. This was on a Saturday evening, On Monday, the dealer service agent called me, had already diagnosed the problem as a failed 6L80 GM transmission, this was at 930am, asked if I wanted it repaired I said yes. The dealer called back at 3pm that same day and said the transmission had already been repaired. Which to me is a bit surprising as it needed a new transmission, which should take longer. Glad it was fixed so fast. The cost was to be around 6700 dollars. From my knowledge this is a known issue with these transmissions. My concern, is that I could have been in an accident from a known defect in manufacturing that GM knew about and did nothing to address.

My 2017 GMC Sierra 1500 Denali started shaking violently and the rpm gage began bouncing 1/4 to 1/2 inch in a very short amount of time. I ran a maintenance facility in Europe with 317 local national and 25 U.S. employees. Two of my brother-in-laws, and one of my nephews are mechanics. Two run their own auto repair facilities. All three reported having to replace torque converters on multiple gmc/chevrolet 1500 trucks. Many at somewhere between 40 and 60 thousand miles. If this is such a systematic problem, and from the number of vehicles they have had to repair it is, why hasn't a recall been issued. Second, in most cases dealerships first charge excessively for replacing the transmission fluid (approximately $900) and then end up replacing the torque converter. The owner has to pay for the transfluid replacement out of pocket because it is considered maintenance instead of replacing the torque converter at company expense...especially if you purchased and extended warranty through a third party. If this is recalled, owners should be reimbursed if they had to pay for it themselves and they should be required to replace the transmission fluid filter as a part of the repair,

Truck all a sudden developed a Lifter noise under the hood and the check engine light came on Friday, September 8th. I checked the oil and oil pressure which was ok. Saturday morning 9/9 I notice some loss of power pulling out on Highway. I took the truck immediately to a friend who is a retired GM Master Mechanic. He coded P0300 and P0306 with 158 miss fires. The following Monday on September 11th I took the truck to Clift GMC in Adrian, MI. They confirmed a Lifter failure and bent Push Rod on Cylinder six. on my 5.3L engine. Since I have learned the AFM System on these engines is driving Lifter Failures. I was lucky my Camshaft was not harmed. My truck had 84,945 miles on it and is six years old. GM offered no, zero assistance. The Dealer could only state this is a well known issue which they see frequently offer a extended Power Train Warranty at a cost of $1600 t $2000 dollars. How is a Extended Warranty a solution to a poor Engine Design? Help!

Like so many others, I have persistent transmission or drive train problems in my 2017 GMC Sierra. This has been documented on multiple visits and test drives with the dealer where I purchased the vehicle and to another GMC dealer. The first occurrence was after about 4,000 miles. A loud clunk sound occasionally occurs while shifting thru low gears and the transmission shifts very hard. To the point that the transmission hesitates between gears and then jerks me back into the seat. The selling dealer has witnessed this and tried various repairs (supposedly flushed and replaced the fluid, supposedly replaced an unknown computer component, etc). None of this helped. Now the transmission also hesitates and seems to slip during a downshift thru the low gears. The selling dealer finally told me "nothing is wrong with this truck, so don't bring it back again". I assured them that I would never be back, especially when I'm in the market for a new truck. GM should take note of this, also. Online websites show many posts of owners having this issue. And neither the dealers nor GM are even acknowledging a problem, let alone offering a solution. Unfortunately for me and many others, the value of this vehicle is impacted by so many complaints, no action by NHTSA and questionable practices by GM and their dealers. Buyers beware!!! The transmission in this truck is junk and you won't receive any assistance from GM or its dealers. The only hope for owners of this truck is for NHTSA to step up, launch an investigation and require a recall. This a known issue to owners of this truck, GM, its dealers and the NHTSA. It's time for all of them to step up and do what's right for consumers.

I have persistent transmission problems documented on multiple dealer visits where I purchased the vehicle. The first one was after 6000 miles. A large clunk sound and vibration occurred after shifting gears in the 30 mph range. The dealer told me this was a know issue related to the transmission manufacturer lubricant conflicting with the GMC transmission fluid. They did a flush and replace and for a time period it settled down. I have 56,000 miles now and the latest complaint I made was when nearing a stop at 5-10 mph the transmission did a massive clink. I had two others in the vehicle that observed this over 20 times. I immediately scheduled a service to look at this. After 4 hours they told me nothing is wrong. Since then the transmission has a light clunk shifting at low speed so I wonder if they lied and flushed the fluid. They said no metal was in the fluid. Online websites show many posts of owners hanging this issue. I was never shown a bulletin on any reported issues and would like to see every one related to the 8 speed transmission. My standard powertain warranty has expired after 5 years. I fear the value of this vehicle is impacted by so many complaint, no action by NTSB, and questionable practices by two GM dealers that serviced my vehicle. I would like to see a recall as this isn’t just my issue. I would like to see what investigation NTSB has done on this topic. I have printed service re odds for each I have complained about the transmission and now believe the dealer was aware of the issue and GM bulletins coached them how to tell me there is no issue. The last statement made was also odd, the service advisor told me that the clink is because the transmission sometimes goes from 3rd to 1st and skips second gear. I was charged to have them look for a problem and if this a known issue to both GM and the NTSB shame on you both.

Truck has 67,000 miles and has been in the dealer 3 times for transmission issues. First was the shutter. Then harsh jerking downshifts. They flushed transmission and filled with new fluid under warranty and after 1,000 miles light on again for transmission fluid temperature sensor. And now they want $800 to replace this issue. There was a recall on the 16 model for the same issue with the wiring. About to cut loss and file lemon law. Had the truck for less then 2 years and put 15,000 miles on it

Cold start after vehicle sits for a while vehicle shark bites and stutters. When you try and drive vehicle before it’s been warmed up significantly. It’s a safety concern because it feels very danger and could cause an accident. Alamo At caused my truck to stall out the other day with my children in it and a large accident. Dealership is dismissed my concern and says it’s normal gmc defects that I have to deal with. I will sue GMC if I have to.

When I'm coming to a stop and the vehicle starts downshifting, the last shift feels like the tranny is going to fall out. Forceful jerk and clunking noise. It's sporadic. One week it's almost every day, one week it seems fine. The dealership said they have heard this a lot and laughed when they told me the manufacturer has told them it's normal. It's definitely not normal.

I'm having issues with my transmission/torque converter on my 2017 GMC Sierra SLT 6.2L which cause a heavy shutter and/or shake while driving. I have scheduled a follow up appointment for 11/22/21 after my vehicle was just in on 11/15/21. I currently have less than 57,000 miles on this vehicle. These issues create abnormal vibrations and shuttering under normal driving conditions which can adversely affect control of the vehicle. Furthermore, these issues affect acceleration and deceleration.

Within a couple of days after purchasing the vehicle new I noticed a vibration or shudder when the transmission shifted. Also, the truck would slam into gear almost like being hit in the back end, and on a few occasions while driving on the highway the truck would just downshift by itself thereby causing the engine RPM's to rev above 5,000. It has been to the dealer four times, transmission has been re-calibrated, the new and improved fluid flush and these problems still exist. The truck has just under 60K miles and has started downshifting on a regular basis causing the engine to rev. How long is that going to last before the engine blows or causes permanent damage?

GM has known issues, which I'm sure the NHTSA is aware of. This involves transmission in 2015-2019 model trucks, both GMC and Chevrolet, among other GM vehicles. In my research there have been no less than 13 TSB's issues by GM trying to rectify these issues. The latest TSB states that a new blend of transmission fluid is the fix. In my instance the transmission started shifting hard with less than 30K miles. Took to dealership and they reprogrammed the transmission control module. Fixed the issue for a while but then started back after about 10K miles. In Feb. 2020 with 60K miles a transmission temperature sensor failed on the transmission. I took it in to replace sensor and as a result they had to change the fluid at which time they told me they replaced it with the new recommended fluid. Now at 94K miles it has started producing the hard shuddering at certain speeds. This is the main problem the fluid change is supposed to fix. Well guess what. It does fix it. I'm now scheduled to take it back in on Monday 8-9-21 to have the torque converter replaced. The company I work for has about 12 of these model GMC trucks and 7 of them have had to go back in to fix this same issue. Some of them multiple times. I'm out of warranty and these repairs are not cheap. The biggest safety issue is the tranny could fail at any point going down the road and leave me with no drivetrain and potentially get hit. In my 40 years of driving and owning 20 vehicles between me, my wife and 3 kids I have never had a tranny fail. This is the first and GM has know about this issue for years. They need to be made to fix these issues and replace all transmission that are having issues and repay me the money I've already paid and the money I'll have to pay next week. This is ridiculous that NHTSA has not gotten involved enough to force GM to correct this. You need to force the hand of GM to make this right. You know of the problems, now get it fixed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Extreme hard shift from 1 to 2 regardless of power input. Also, sputtering after mantiaining speed (rpms jumping up and down, you can feel the power input increase or decrease). This also happens using cruise control. After researching, this is a major complaint on this vehicle.

AFTER COMING TO A COMPLETE STOP AT TRAFFIC STOP LIGHT TRUCK'S TRANSMISSION MADE A LOUD "CLUNK" SOUND. WHEN ATTEMPTING TO ACCELERATE ON THE GREEN LIGHT TRUCK, INITIALLY WOULD NOT MOVE THEN IT LERCHED FORWARD BUT WOULD NOT SHIFT OUT OF FIRST GEAR. PULLED OFF MAIN ROAD AND INTO A PARKING LOT WHERE I SHIFTED TRUCK INTO PARK AND TURNED OFF THE ENGINE. AFTER WAITING A COUPLE OF MINUTES I RESTARTED THE TRUCK, SHIFTED INTO DRIVE AND PULLED BACK ONTO THE STREET, BUT THE TRUCK STILL WOULD NOT SHIFT OUT OF FIRST GEAR.

ON FRIDAY NOVEMBER 6TH WE WERE ON OUR WAY HOME COMING DOWN 1960 EAST WHEN WE STARTED TO HEAR A NOISE COMING FROM THE TRUCK. WE COULD HEAR IT LOUD AND CLEAR BECAUSE THE A/C IS ALSO OUT SO WE HAVE BEEN HAVING TO LEAVE THE WINDOWS DOWN. IT SOUNDED LIKE AN OLD ELECTRIC FAN RUNNING. THEN SHORTLY AFTER THE TRUCK STARTED TO JERK HARD IT FELT LIKE WE HAD JUST BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT. THE TRUCK WOULD NOT SHIFT GEARS AND WE WERE IN THE MIDDLE OF A VERY BUSY 1960 LUCKY WE WERE CLOSE TO HOME AND WHERE ABLE TO MAKE IT THERE AFTER MULTIPLE ATTEMPTS TO GET THE TRUCK GOING. MY HUSBAND HAS SOME KNOWLEDGE OF CARS AND REALIZED IT WAS THE TRANSMISSION. THIS IS A FAIRLY NEW VEHICLE. HOW CAN IT HAVE SUCH A MAJOR PROBLEM? WHEN DOING SOME RESEARCH APPARENTLY THIS IS PROBLEM THAT GM IS AWARE OF AND HAVE DONE NOTHING TO FIX. AS I MENTIONED BEFORE THE A/C CONDENSER HAS A MAJOR LEAK AND THIS IS ALSO A PROBLEM OF GM VEHICLES. BASICALLY WE BOUGHT A BRAND NEW LEMON. I'M THANKFUL WE WERE NOT ON THE FREEWAY WHEN THIS HAPPENED IT COULD HAVE BEEN MUCH WORSE OUTCOME. FOR NOW WE ARE WITH OUT A VEHICLE AND CAN NOT AFFORD TO REPLACE THE TRANSMISSION.

THE VEHICLE FIRST STARTED VIBRATING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS WHILE STILL UNDER WARRANTY (~15K MILES) - I TOOK IT INTO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY SAID IT WAS JUST OUT OF ALIGNMENT - ALIGNED AND ROTATED TIRES. THIS SEEMED TO IMPROVE THINGS FOR A FEW MONTHS UNTIL THE VIBRATION WAS BACK TO THE UNTOLERABLE STATE - UPON TAKING TO ANOTHER SERVICE STATION, THEY BLAMED THE TIRES (UNEVEN WEAR) AND I PAID FOR ALL NEW TIRES - ONLY FOR THE VIBRATION TO RETURN AFTER ANOTHER FEW MONTHS. I NEXT TOOK IT A 3RD SERVICE STATION AND THEY ARE CLAIMING A BEND WHEEL THAT WONT FULLY BALANCE. AFTER RESEARCHING, I NOW SEE THAT THIS IS A VERY COMMON ISSUE WITH A FAULTY DRIVETRAIN, BUT GMC IS NOT ACKNOWLEDGING THE ISSUE?? HOW DO I BECOME PART OF A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT IN ORDER TO GET THIS ISSUE FIXED PROPERLY?

OUR TRUCK IS LESS THAN THREE YEARS OLD WITH APPROXIMATELY 69000 MILES. THE TRANSMISSION JUST STARTED SLIPPING OUT OF THE BLUE WHILE DRIVING THRU A NEIGHBORHOOD. WHILE IN DRIVE IT WOULD MOVE BUT ONCE ACCELERATING IT WOULD REV UP AND NOT CHANGE GEARS. THIS HAPPENED WITHOUT WARNING, WITHOUT AN ENGINE OR WARNING LIGHT. WE DO ALL THE NECESSARY REGULAR MAINTENANCE. IN ADDITION TWO YEARS AGO WHILE THE TRUCK WAS A YEAR OLD, THE BRAKES WENT OUT WHILE DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE. I GUESS IT WAS THE BRAKE VACUUM PUMP OR WHATEVER THAT DIDN'T ALLOW THE BRAKE PEDDLE TO BE PRESSED WHICH PROVIDED ME WITH NO BRAKES. AGAIN WITH ABSOLUTELY NO WARNING! THIS LATER BECAME RECALL ISSUE BUT NOT BEFORE IT HAD ALREADY HAPPENED TO ME! I UNDERSTAND THERE IS A CLASS ACTION LAW SUIT AGAINST GMC FOR TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS AND I WOULD CONSIDER BEING A PART OF THIS. THIS IS A 50;000$ AND RELATIVELY NEW TRUCK, THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE! THE DEALER NOW WANTS OVER 4000$ FOR REPAIRS. *TR

TRANSMISSION HAS BEEN WORKED ON 3 TIME. IT SEEMS TO GET WORSE. DELEARS SAYS THE 8 SPEED TRANSMISSION HAS MANY ISSUES BUT GM DOES NOT HAVE A FIX. THESE 8 SPEED TRANSMISSIONS WILL END UP KILLING FOLK.. THIS STUFF HAPPENS ON A DAILY BASIS

MY TRUCK SHIFTS VERY HARD BETWEEN GEARS, ESPECIALLY 1ST TO 2ND. FEELS LIKE GETTING REAR ENDED SOMETIMES. IT ALSO HESITATES DAILY WHEN BACKING OUT OF MY DRIVEWAY AND PUTTING IT FROM REVERSE TO DRIVE. YOU DON'T KNOW WHEN IT WILL ACTUALLY ENGAGE MAKING IT DANGEROUS WHEN PULLING OUT INTO THE STREET. ITS DEFINITELY AN ISSUE WITH THE TRANSMISSION BUT NO FIXES OFFERED FROM DEALER YET.

"HAVE TAKEN MY 2017 GMC SIERRA INTO THE DEALERSHIP TWICE FOR TRANSMISSION ISSUES, THE LAST TIME WAS A MONTH AGO. BOTH TIMES I WAS TOLD THAT THERE WASN'T ANYTHING WRONG BUT THAT THE TRANSMISSION SOFTWARE WAS 'RE-FLASHED' AND THAT THE TRANSMISSION WOULD HAVE TO 'RE-LEARN MY DRIVING HABITS'. MY TRUCK IS STILL HAVING PROBLEMS. WHILE UPSHIFTING FROM 1ST TO 2ND GEAR, THE TRANSMISSION SOMETIMES HESITATES BEFORE IT ENGAGES AND THEN CAUSES THE TRUCK TO LUNGE FORWARD WITH A HUGE SLAM. WHILE DOWNSHIFTING FROM 2ND TO 1ST GEAR, THE TRANSMISSION WILL MAKE A VERY NOTICEABLE 'CLUNK'. I'M ABOUT TO TAKE IT BACK A 3RD TIME. THIS IS EXTREMELY FRUSTRATING MY BOUGHT MY TRUCK LESS THAN 2 YEARS AGO AND IT ONLY HAS 25,000 MILES."

TRANSMISSION SHIFT FROM 1ST GEAR. THERE IS A PROBLEM IN THE GEAR SHIFT FROM 1ST TO 2ND IT SLAMS THE TRANSMISSION WHEN YOU STOP AND START. THERE IS A HEATER IN THE TRANSMISSION THAT PUTS EXTRA DEGRADATION ON THE OIL CAUSING IT TO NEED REPLACEMENT VERY EARLY. DEALER KNOWS OF THE ISSUE BUT HAS NO FIX FOR IT ONLY STATED THEY NOTED THE FILE IN CASE IT FAILS. UNACCEPATABLE FOR A 55,000. PLEASE LOOK INTO THIS.

VEHICLE WAS PARKED ON ICY DRIVEWAY (5 DEGREE ANGLE). IN PARK. VEHICLE WAS FOUND AT THE BOTTOM OF DRIVEWAY AGAINST A TREE. THE WHEELS WERE TURNING AND NOT SKIDDING AS PROVEN BY TREADS IN THE SNOW. I BELIEVE ONE OF THE REAR TIRES MAY HAVE SLIPPED AND SOMEHOW THE OPPOSITE DISENGAGED AND ALLOWED IT TO CONTINUE BACKWARDS. THIS HAPPENED WITH MY 2002 GMC SIERRA. THE EXPLANATION I WAS GIVEN IS THE DIFFERENTIAL SENSES A SLIP AND THE OTHER SIDE ENGAGES ALLOWING IT TO TURN BUT IF THERE IS A SLOPE THE VEHICLE WEIGHT ALLOWS IT TO KEEP ROLLING DOWN HILL. IF SOMEONE IS BEHIND THE VEHICLE THEY COULD BE INJURED OR PINNED BETWEEN ANOTHER OBJECT. YOU CAN PARK ONE ON AN ICY DRIVE AND NUDGE IT AND IT WILL BEGIN ROLLING BACKWARDS. THERE SHOULD BE A PRONOUNCED WARNING OF THIS OR AN ENGINEERING SOLUTION

I HAVE HAD SEVERAL INSTANCES WHERE YOU PUSH THE ACCELERATOR AND YOU START TO GO AND THEN IT JUST STOPS MOVING LIKE THE TRANSMISSION HAS DISENGAGED. STARTED TO TURN INTO ONCOMING TRAFFIC THIS MORNING AND HAD TO STOP AS AS IT DID THIS AND I WAS GOING TO GET HIT!!! IT DOES IT A LOT, FIRST TIME I WOULD HAVE BEEN HIT!!! GM SAYS THEY KNOW IT'S A PROBLEM, AT SHOP NOW AGAIN FOR IT! GOING TO GET SOMEONE KILLED!!!!

I HAD THE ROTORS REPLACED ON MY NEW TRUCK AT 6000 MILES AND PAID FOR REPAIRS OUT OF POCKET. I CONTINUED TO HEAR BRAKE NOISE. ON MY WAY TO THE DEALERSHIP ON THE WEEKEND I WAS SCHEDULED TO HAVE THE BRAKE NOISE INVESTIGATED AND TO HAVE AN OIL CHANGE DONE, I HAD CATASTROPHIC BRAKE FAILURE. A VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME MADE A LANE CHANGE INTO MY LANE AND THEN SLAMMED ON THE BRAKES IN FRONT OF MY VEHICLE AT A GREEN LIGHT COMING TO A COMPLETE STOP FROM 40 MPH TO 0 IN THE MIDDLE OF THE INTERSECTION. A CAR HAD PULLED OUT IN FRONT OF HIM CHANGING LANES FROM THE LEFT LANE TO RIGHT. I MASHED THE BRAKE PEDAL TO STOP IMMEDIATELY AND MY BRAKES WENT SOFT AND TO THE FLOOR ON THE SECOND PUSH. WHEN I WASN'T STOPPING. I SLAMMED MY EMERGENCY BRAKE WITH MY LEFT FOOT AND INJURED A FEW TOES ON MY LEFT FOOT TRYING TO STOP BEFORE MY VEHICLE. MY VEHICLE DID NOT COME TO A COMPLETE STOP. INSTEAD, MY VEHICLE SKIDDED AND LIGHTLY TAPPED THE VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME DOING MINOR BUMPER DAMAGE TO BOTH OF OUR VEHICLES. HOWEVER THERE WAS A TOYOTA TRUCK BEHIND ME, AND STRUCK MY VEHICLE DIRECTLY WHILE I WAS AT A STAND STILL, WHILE THE DRIVER WAS DOING OVER 70 MPH WHEN HE COLLIDED WITH MY SIERRA. MY SIERRA HAS THE PIN OR PART OF THE CALIPER THAT MOVES THE BRAKE PADS, COMPLETELY PUSHED THE PISTON INTO THE ROTOR. THE VEHICLE HAS HAD BRAKE ISSUES SINCE I PAID TO HAVE THE BRAKES AND ROTORS REPLACED AT 6000 MILES. I HAVE RECORDS OF THE INCIDENT AND THE BRAKE FAILURE FROM A MECHANIC AND AUTO BODY SHOP DOCUMENTING THE COMPLETE FAILURE OF THE BRAKES. DIRECTLY AFTER THE BRAKES WERE REPLACED WITHIN ANOTHER 8000 MILES THE BRAKE BOOSTER ON THE VEHICLE WENT BAD AND WAS REPLACED AS WELL.

1. THE TRANSMISSION SHIFTS EXTREMELY ROUGH FROM 1ST TO 2ND GEAR IN PARKING LOTS AT A SLOW SPEED AND ON NORMAL HIGHWAY OR STREET DRIVING AND EXPERIENCES THE SAME THING WHILE SLOWING DOWN TO STOP 2. THE ENGINE HAS RECENTLY BEEN HAVING A AWKWARD SHAKE TO IT WHILE IN IDEAL AFTER IT HAS BEEN RUNNING AND WARM 3. WHILE BACKING UP AND TURNING THE WHEEL, THE FRONT SUSPENSION WILL LET OUT A LOUD CLUNK SOUND AND THE SOUND WILL RETURN WHEN TURNING THE WHEELS BACK FORWARD AFTER PUTTING IT INTO DRIVE.

TOWING A 5900# RV TRAILER WITHIN THE SPECIFIED 7600# TOW WEIGHT CAPACITY, CAUSED THE TRANSMISSION TO OVERHEAT AND FREE SPIN WITHIN 10 MILES OF TRAVEL. TRANSMISSION OVERHEATING OCCURRED WHEN TOWING (285+), WHEN NOT TOWING BUT IN TOW MODE (264), & WHEN DRIVING (241). DEALER AND GMC TECH'S DO NOT HAVE A CORRECTION FOR THE TRANSMISSION OPERATING ABOVE RANGE. V6 ENGINE W 6 SPEED AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION. TRAVELING AT 60MPH. WEATHER TEMPERATURE LOW 80'S. LEAVING THE OWNER IN THE ROAD WITH THEIR RV WAITING FOR 20 MINUTES FOR THE TRANSMISSION TO COOL DOWN SO IT CAN BE MOVED OFF THE ROAD, IS NOT SAFE.

I BOUGHT THIS TRUCK USED WITH 12,918 MILES ON IT, APRIL 2018. WHEN DRIVING(ESPECIALLY ON HIGHWAY), AND CHANGING SPEEDS, TRANSMISSION CLUNKS AND LURCHES-AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION. IT SOUNDS AND FEELS AS IF DRIVE TRAIN WILL FALL OUT. I HAVE TAKEN IT TO DEALER TWICE. THE FIRST TIME, THEY KEPT IT FOR 3 DAYS, THE SECOND TIME, FOR ONE. THE MECHANIC IS ABLE TO REPLICATE THE NOISE/LURCHING, BUT THEY ARE UNABLE TO FIND A CAUSE OR CORRECTION. THEY TELL ME IT IS NOT DANGEROUS, BUT I AM CONCERNED THAT THE NOISE/MOVEMENT, COULD CAUSE MYSELF OR ANOTHER FAMILY MEMBER TO SWERVE OR BRAKE HARD AND CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. THE MECHANIC HAS TRIED "UPDATING THE SOFTWARE" BUT THAT DID NOT FIX IT. SEVERAL OTHER GMC SIERRA OWNERS TELL ME THEY HAVE HAD SAME PROBLEM.

WHEN DRIVING AT SLOW PARKING LOT SPEEDS OR WHEN COMING TO A COMPLETE STOP THE VEHICLE INTERMITTENTLY LUNGES, SURGES OR JOLTS, CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO MOVE FORWARD OR BACKWARDS UNANTICIPATED. SOMETIMES THE JOLT FEELS LIKE ANOTHER VEHICLE HAS HIT THIS VEHICLE FROM THE REAR, AGAIN CAUSING IT TO LUNGE FORWARD.

UNINTENDED ACCELERATION WHEN SLOWING DOWN TO COME TO A STOP THE VEHICLE WILL OCCASIONALLY ENGAGE A LOWER GEAR VERY SUDDENLY AND LURCH FORWARD. THE RESULTING FORCE IS ENOUGH TO OVERPOWER THE BRAKING EFFORT BEING PROVIDED BY THE DRIVER AND THE VEHICLE WILL MOVE FORWARD SEVERAL FEET BEFORE THE DRIVER CAN REACT AND APPLY MORE BRAKING FORCE TO STOP THE VEHICLE. THE ISSUE OCCURS RANDOMLY AND INFREQUENTLY AT VERY SLOW SPEEDS (5-10MPH). THERE HAVE BEEN SEVERAL OCCASIONS WHERE IVE BEEN BRAKING TO STOP AT A STOP LIGHT AND BEEN FORCED INTO THE MIDDLE OF AN INTERSECTION. IM CONCERNED THE ISSUE COULD CAUSE THE VEHICLE TO STRIKE THE CAR IN FRONT OF IT OR A PEDESTRIAN CROSSING IN FRONT OF THE VEHICLE AS IT STOPS FOR A CROSSWALK. MULTIPLE UNSUCCESSFUL REPAIR ATTEMPTS HAVE BEEN MADE BY THE DEALER. I ATTEMPTED TO FORCE THE MANUFACTURER TO BUY THE VEHICLE BACK FROM ME THROUGH THE MASSACHUSETTS LEMON LAW AND SINCE THAT TIME THEY HAVE DENIED THE EXISTENCE OF A PROBLEM. I HAVE SEEN SEVERAL INSTANCES ONLINE WHERE CONSUMERS WITH THE IDENTICAL VEHICLE (ALL WITH THE 8 SPEED TRANSMISSION) COMPLAINED OF THE SAME PROBLEM.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2017 GMC SIERRA 1500. WHILE DRIVING 30 MPH, THE TRANSMISSION FAILED AFTER A COMPLETE STOP. WHEN THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED, THE RPMS INCREASED. WHEN SHIFTING FROM SECOND TO FIRST GEAR, THE TRANSMISSION SHIFTED INTO FIRST GEAR WITH EXTREME FORCE AND CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO ABRUPTLY ACCELERATE. THE CONTACT HAD TO ENGAGE THE BRAKE PEDAL WITH FORCE TO AVOID A CRASH. THE FAILURE WAS EXPERIENCED NUMEROUS TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO WALSH CHEVY BUICK GMC (2330 NORTH BLOOMINGTON STREET, STREATOR, IL, 61364 815-673-4333) WHERE THE TRANSMISSION SYSTEM WAS REPROGRAMMED TWICE AND THE ELECTRONIC CONTROL MODULE WAS REPLACED. HOWEVER, THE FAILURE WAS NOT CORRECTED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 112. UPDATED 08/30/17*LJ *CN
