Just after merging from I-65 North to 264 East at 65 mph in Louisville KY on November 14th, the display indicated to "press start" and the engine stalled. I was only able to get the vehicle about 3 inches off of the left side of the yellow line before running out of inertia. I was stuck there for 2 hours while waiting for a tow truck. The first truck could not lift my vehicle because with the engine off, the electric shifter would not move out of park. A second tow truck was called with dolly's and then a 3rd tow truck was required to block traffic. During this 2 hour period several cars swerved left of the yellow line and I was in fear for my life. The traffic was so heavy that I was trapped between the concrete median wall and the left lane. I called 911 to ask for a safety vehicle to shield me from traffic, but they never arrived as promised.

I had a lifter fail which is a well known problem for these GM engines. The lifter caused the cam shaft to be damaged because of the lobes being shaved off. Now I’m being told that it will be over $10,000 fix a 3 year old truck.

70mph with cruise control on, truck shifted from drive to neutral uncomanded. There were no indications of the issue before it happened. The dealer has the truck and I havent heard back from them yet. From my limited research, this is a common problem for these trucks.

Driving home with kids from snowboarding and check engine light comes on. “Power reduced, drive carefully” well I’m in 4 wheel drive the roads aren’t great and I have my kids in the truck. We were safe. Now? I am nearly getting ran off the road there aren’t any exits from the freeway. Kids are terrified. Able to limp home all the while with crying kids. Hook up scanner and it’s p1098. A little research tells me it’s a coolant control valve. Which is known problem from gmc so much so that the company issued an extended warranty to cover. No recall? No just let people experience this event across the country in a truck that is billed as safe and reliable by the company that sells them. This is a complete joke. The part is on national backorder because the problem is so prevalent. So now I have a truck that is inoperable. 52k miles and it’s a 2022. Someone needs to investigate this company as soon as possible.

Dec 17, 2025

Transmission self destructed at 68,000 miles. Had to have it replaced at GMC dealership at a cost of over $7,000. GMC did not offer any coverage of the cost.

Dec 16, 2025

Purchased this vehicle used with having 34k miles. Currently has 37k. Powertrain is still under warranty. I will be taking it in to have looked at. The truck has already been in for rear main seal failure and the dealership failed to investigate the transmission issue as far as I know. The issue is with the transmission and shifting, specifically going into second gear. While going into second gear the truck feels like it is in neutral for a couple seconds then ultimately gets its 2nd gear. This appears to only happen after the truck has been sitting off for some time. Between a few hours and overnight. The biggest concern for me was when this happened as I pulled out into the road and was left without propulsion for a brief moment with oncoming traffic. If driving in snow I feel like once the gear grabs, would likely cause a spin-out in front of traffic. This is a serious safety concern. There are no warning lamps or messages on the dash for this issue. This is a 2022 GMC Sierra Limited Elevation crew cab 2.7L V4 with turbo.

Dec 15, 2025

My truck went into "limp" mode and had very little power. It was towed to the dealership where they diagnosed the issue as a bad solenoid causing the engine misfires. The solenoid was replaced, but the issue was not fixed. Now the dealership is stating the engine has bent lifters and the repairs will not be covered under the ongoing massive engine recall. The vehicle had the pico test on 9/17 and it "passed", but less than 3k miles later and the engine failed. This is a clear safety issue and well known by NHTSA and GM. Now I'm negotiating with the dealership to cover repairs and my truck has been gone nearly a month.

I was accelerating from a stop light at green. The RMP's revved up, truck jerked, and it would not shift or accelerate. I was almost rear ended on a busy street. There was not warning light prior. The service light then came on. I pulled over, turned the truck off. I turned it back on and put it in drive. It shifted to 30 mph, jerked, and would not shift. The message on the dash states it is in limited power, in limp mode. The GMC app states there is a Transmission system issue detected. My mechanic stated the control module is bad and needs replaced. I called GMC and they stated it is out of warranty by 4795 miles. Having a vehicle that will not accelerate on a busy street is dangerous. It is a 2022 with low miles. I limped it to my work office 2 miles away and called family to get me. I live 50 miles from work.

When putting the truck in reverse it did not go, then suddenly squealed the tires and engaged reverse. This happened 2 days in a row. On the 3rd day, it would not go into reverse at all and had to be pushed in neutral from a parking space to be able to drive forward. At that time, it was at first jerky but did go forward. Subsequently, I did not drive it until my appointment with the dealership and I was able to put it in reverse.

Sep 24, 2025

Constant engine issues. Cams, lifters, now needs new motor. Motor apparently unavailable.

Sep 8, 2025

Initially experienced hard clunking sound when transmission shifting between 35-40 mph. I took in for service and dealership replaced EGR sensor. The problem was not resolved with this fix. I took the vehicle back for service and the dealership then did a software/system reset. I then drove my truck with towing a trailer to San Diego and upon exiting the freeway, the back tires locked up causing a screeching of the tires which caused my vehicle to swerve. I felt as though this could have caused an accident. Shortly after, the engine light came on and my vehicle went into “limp mode”. A dealership in San Diego then told me that the valve body plate would need to be replaced. According to the internet this seems to be an ongoing issue with this year’s vehicle, yet no recall has been issued by GM. I understand GM has issues a special warranty coverage #N242454441 providing extended warranty for control valve issues. I’ve been told my VIN is not included for this special warranty when it is the exact same issue.

Transmission fail to shift. Have to stop, restart truck to get it to shift causing safety issue. Warning lighted eventually came on.

Aug 30, 2025

My truck is under the national recall from GMC for the 6.2L engine problems. I even received the recall notice from GMC stating this. This truck has been in and out of the shop for engine problems things I took delivery of it in 2022. The latest was in April of 2025 and while it was in the repair service at the dealership, the national recall came out. During that time the dealership tried to tell me the problem was with my exhaust system so I was not covered under the recall. I knew they were not being truthful so I refused to take possession of the truck as I new it had all the symptoms that GMC was describing in my recall notice. My truck sat at the dealership for almost 5 months and last week they force me to take possession of my truck my taking back my "loaner vehicle". They stated "my truck passed the required inspection", which I knew they were being dishonest, but was forced to take the truck back anyway. Three days after taking possession I was on the interstate doing 60 mph and the engine totally seized up and almost caused an accident from the vehicles behind me running into me because of the sudden decrease in speed. I was able to safely pull over and had to get towed back to the dealership. This incident is beyond just a engine recall now because they new my truck was not safe to drive and forced me to take back my truck. Im just thankful I was driving and not my wife, or having my two grandchildren in the truck with me. To make mtters worse in this scenerio, this truck is actually my replacement truck because my 2021 truck had to be taken back per the Lemon Law in 2022, so this will now be truck #2 being Lemon Law and my original truck loan isnt even paid off. I have all of the various engine repair paperwork on this truck dating back to 2022.

Aug 13, 2025

Transmission shutters and won’t engage into reverse when hot, rear backup camera intermittently won’t display on screen just get a picture of a camera on dash screen. Happens multiple times dealer charged me for diagnostics but didn’t even drive the vehicle to get hot.

Transmission keeps shifting hard and stud stuttering at low speeds

Aug 5, 2025

My daughter and I drove to town to run some errands, we live twenty-three minutes away and take the freeway. Speed limit on that specific section of the freeway (I80) is 80mph. As I was taking the on-ramp to enter traffic, My GMC started shifted very hard and losing power. The vehicle was sputtering and making strange sounds. I was unable to exceed 60mph due to excessive vibrations/shaking the vehicle. Steering was starting to be difficult at the same time I noticed Oil Pressure Gauge slowly dropping on instrument panel below 25psi. I had to pull over immediately. oil pressure remained lower than normal, verified Oil was filled to manufactures specifications (changed June 30, 2025). Returned the vehicle to my place of residence as safe and slow as I possibly could and parked it as it is a major safety concern.

Jul 29, 2025

The contact owns a 2022 GMC Sierra 1500. The contact stated while driving 60 MPH, the vehicle stalled. The message "hot oil" was displayed on the screen. The contact was able to coast to the side of the road where the vehicle failed to restart. The vehicle was towed to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the engine had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The contact later received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 25V274000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING). The contact stated that on a separate occasion, while the vehicle was idling, the vehicle vibrate abnormally. In addition, the transmission unexpectedly downshifted. The message to be careful when passing, and the message to use both hands while driving were displayed. The contact stated that most recently an alarm was coming from the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that a fan had failed and needed to be replaced. The contact was unsure if the vehicle was repaired. The failure was a recurring failure. The contact was concerned about the safety of the vehicle while driving. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 37,000.

Unloaded my Denali at huge loss with 30,000 miles because gm wouldn’t fix recall after many times in shop, broke down on freeway, and need to travel to Canada on business. Canada won’t allow vehicles with open safety recalls to enter country even though im pretty sure engine was MADE in Canada. Gm corporate office told me there’s nothing they can do. While in shop for 4 days of testing i watched vehicle on app, never started, moved, just put out back for 4 days then told absolutely nothing. Just wanted fair trade in for diesel. Truck looked identical to brand new on lot, 10/10 except engine recall. Gm promised to reimburse rental fees when broke down a week or so, submitted documents to Gm, nothing recieved. Bought ram instead for obvious reasons. Is there a lemon law, class action, agency etc that can help compensate for losses? The public should be warned!

A 2022 Sierra 1500 had a catastrophic engine failure while driving. The vehicle was unstable and came to rest. The issue has been confirmed base on the recall notice. The vehicle has been sitting at the dealer for three months waiting for GM to 'Open' the recall on this vehicle. Customer Service has been contacted on several occasions but the recall is still not opened.

Jul 21, 2025

Purchase a used 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 Denali with a 3.0L diesel at around 42,000 miles. Drove it for about 1,500 miles before I started noticing unusual shifting with the transmission which became more noticeable with time. At around 44,000 miles, the truck had two hard shifts going 35-40 MPH on a flat round and put itself into limp mode. Turned off and on the truck multiple times, the engine light always stayed on but the symptoms would come and go. Either way the truck always went back into limp mode after a few miles. I did a quick scan and it came out with a P0700 and P0746 code. I limped it to the dealer and was told that it was a bad valve body which is apparently on back order with no ETA and they can’t tell me when I will get my truck back.

The contact owns a 2022 GMC Sierra 1500. The contact stated that after shifting to drive (D) and depressing the accelerator pedal, the vehicle failed to respond as intended. The contact shifted to park(P) and attempted to turn off the vehicle; however, the vehicle failed to turn off. The contact stated after several attempts, the vehicle turned off; however, the contact was unable to restart the vehicle. The contact stated that the "Service Engine" warning light was illuminated. The contact had the vehicle towed to a dealer. The contact stated that the tow truck driver was unable to shift the vehicle to neutral(N) to winch the vehicle onto the flat bed. The dealer had not yet diagnosed the vehicle. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 17,000.

While driving on streets and freeways the truck will shift hard and then loss of acceleration and into limp mode. Lights all on dash go crazy like brakes, 4WD, fuel gauge and check engine light. It has done it 8 times now and has been in the shop 5 times with same issue. Major safety issue while driving 70 mile hour then governs it at 55-62 mile per hour.

Jul 14, 2025

The contact owns a 2022 GMC Sierra 1500. The contact stated while driving 25-30 MPH, the transmission shifted hard while depressing the accelerator pedal. The contact stated that while driving 75 MPH with the cruise control activated, the vehicle hesitated with the message "Service Transmission Immediately" displayed. The vehicle stalled and the contact coasted the vehicle off to the shoulder of the highway. Due to the failure, the vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic. While speaking with a relative that owned a similar vehicle, the contact was informed of NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V797000 (Power Train); however, the VIN was not included in the recall. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and confirmed that the vehicle was not under recall; the contact was referred to the NHTSA Hotline to report the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 100,200.

While traveling at highway speeds in a very congested and busy segment near Virginia Beach Virginia the truck began shifting erratically and suddenly lost power which required me to cross two lanes of traffic 30 miles an hour below the speed limit to get to the shoulder. Cars were swerving everywhere to miss us with this sudden loss of power and speed. The truck has been towed and now at the dealer where it has been diagnosed with a stuck/failed pressure control solenoid and the valve body must be replaced which is apparently on back order due to the high number of failures on the GM 10speed transmissions. Such a sudden loss of power and the reduced power mode of the software made the situation extremely dangerous at highway speeds in congested traffic. Something should be done quickly to get these vehicles off the road until a suitable fix is resolved as someone is going to get killed.

Jun 26, 2025

I bought the truck 3.5 months ago with 66,000 miles with a recall (reprogramming) on the transmission already done according to the dealer. Then yesterday on 6/25 the truck stuttered then shifted hard. When I got to my destination it didn’t have reverse. But no warning lights. So I drove it to the dealer and before I got there it did it again and sent the truck into a power loss mode this time with a warning light. And would barely finish going up the hill with cars behind me. Now they are saying it needs a transmission but gm is only offering to pay half. Also saying the diesel would be covered but my gas isn’t even though I’m pretty sure they are the same transmission makes no sense. Lastly shouldn’t them offering to pay %50 show that they know they have a problem

Jun 16, 2025

I was on the way to the airport and my vehicle suddenly went into reduced power mode and had trouble shifting into gear. I pulled over, shut off my truck, and turned it back on only to have the problem continue. I was able to turn around and make it home, but the vehicle would then not shift into reverse. We had to push the vehicle so that I could position it in the street. Once we were back from vacation, I took it to a GM Certified Service location (my local Cadillac dealership). After review, they diagnosed a defective valve body and the engine recall. I’ve been informed as of today that my valve body will be $3,000 and GM will not cover it because I have more than 60k miles on the truck (it has 72k). After research, this is a common issue and it is ridiculous that GM will not escalate the issue and help consumers with this clear problem due to their manufacturing and/or design. The vehicle is currently sitting at the dealer waiting for a back ordered valve body and I have had to go out of pocket to rent a vehicle. Every service for the vehicle has been completed at a GM Certified Service location. It is available for inspection immediately, if required.

The contact owns a 2022 GMC Sierra 1500. The contact stated while driving at approximately 65 MPH, the vehicle was losing motive power. The contact stated that the message to “Pull Over" had flashed on the instrument cluster. The contact pulled over and turned off the vehicle. The contact waited for approximately 20 minutes and then restarted the vehicle. The contact was able to resume driving. The contact stated that later the failure reoccurred, with the check engine warning light illuminated. The contact pulled over and had the vehicle towed to a local dealer. The dealer diagnosed the vehicle and determined that a sensor in the transmission had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The contact stated that the failure reoccurred, the vehicle lost motive power, and the check engine warning light illuminated. The contact returned the vehicle to the same dealer who diagnosed the vehicle and determined that the transmission needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired; however, the contact stated that the failure reoccurred. The vehicle was towed back to the same dealer. The dealer had not yet diagnosed the vehicle but advised the contact that the transmission had failed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 31,000.

While driving on the freeway, my truck suddenly experienced a severe and unexpected downshift into first gear at highway speeds. Dashboard warning lights immediately illuminated, indicating multiple system faults. I was able to safely pull over and shift the vehicle into park. However, after doing so, the truck completely refused to engage drive or any other gear. This abrupt and uncommanded downshift posed a serious safety risk, not only to myself but to other drivers, due to the potential for loss of vehicle control. The vehicle had to be towed from the scene. It has now been at the dealership for over two and a half months, with no clear timeline for repair or resolution. This incident raises major concerns about the reliability and safety of the transmission system, particularly under high-speed conditions.

May 30, 2025

The coolant control valve is defective and the part is on back order with GM and dealer can’t tell me when part will be available because General Motors doesn’t know. Dealer has had my vehicle for three weeks and because of GM can’t tell me anything new.

May 28, 2025

While driving on the highway at 75mph, the engine stopped responding to the cruise control speed it was set to. The vehicle started to slowly lose speed and the shifting was not normal causing the engine to rev from below 2000 RPMs to about 3500 RPMs, at this point the engine stopped producing power, the transmission was shifted to Neutral by itself, and the check engine light illuminated. While I was able to move to the shoulder and put my hazard lights on, this could've caused an accident in a more congested area. No one was harmed or any accidents occurred. The truck would no longer start, at this point GMC ONStar was called and they provided a tow truck to the nearest GMC dealership. While waiting for the tow truck, I decided to read the codes for the check engine light, P0016 and P0011 codes were populated. The codes were provided to the dealership. The dealership has since then confirmed the engine is seized and a new one will need to be installed. Model of the engine is the GM 6.2L, which currently has an open recall against it for the crankshaft manufacturing defects.

May 21, 2025

Control Valve Engine Coolant which is a well known issue with back orders taking months for the part and GMC not acknowledging responsibility and having loyal customers pay out of pocket.

May 18, 2025

The engine gave out without warning while driving on the highway at 70 miles per hour on April 11th 2025. Upon towing the vehicle to the local GM dealership, I was told the motor had blown and needed a full replacement. One week after, the recall comes out. I bought the truck used in 2023. I called the dealership I originally bought the truck from to ask about any past problems and was told this same incident happened to the original owner of the vehicle before it hit five thousand miles.

May 17, 2025

Complete transmission failure without warning, resulting in loss of power. Vehicle has been maintained meticulously by the book. There were no warning lights or CEL before or during failure.

May 1, 2025

My camshaft failed only 1.8 years into having my brand new truck. GMC dealership repaired it so not sure if they have the part. My truck wouldn’t drive right causing everyone to be at risk. No warnings at all! I take very good care of my truck and the moment a light comes on I get it investigated. This repair was over 15000$ out of my pocket and they had to replace the engine entirely.

May 1, 2025

Power loss at lower gearing speeds and also separator loss of motion when applying gas to make truck move after complete stops. Also blind spot monitoring glitch saying vehicles are beside randomly when no traffic nearby issue to safety by drivability problems and safety components effecting correct monitoring of surroundings.check engine light also has been on more then 2 - 5 times dealer always stating due to sensors in driving components.has been inspected numerous times for similar issues with check engine lights and drive ability issues with loading power random times unsure of where problem exactly resides. Main vehicle for transportation for infant cannot have safety or mechanical issues u resolved but GMC has not corrected this problem at this time and when taking to dealership they asking for charges for inspection of power issues.

Apr 24, 2025

While stopped at a light at a busy intersection the truck wouldn’t drive. There were no prior indications to there be an issue, no noises, no check engine lights. The intersection is a multiple lane route with high speed and traffic with rear end collision possible. The truck was determined to have a blown motor.

On [XXX] while driving 80mph on Westbound [XXX] , just West of the [XXX] exit, my engine simply quit. I was able to navigate it to the side of the highway to avoid traffic. However I could not restart the engine or subsequently get it out of Park gear. I got a notice "Conditions Not Correct for Shift." I was forced to use Onstar to get the truck towed back to the original dealership, Quebedeaux Buick/GMC in Tucson, Arizona. The next day, Monday, I went to the dealership to find out what happened to my truck. They said they would call me with results. They never did. The next day, Tuesday, I still hadn't received a call. I returned to the dealership to ask what had happened. They informed me the engine had thrown a bearing and it would need a total engine replacement. It would take 1-2 months. I'm now on day 4 of not having a vehicle, I've called the dealership every day to try to get a loaner vehicle, and they keep telling me they're working on it. The truck only has 36k miles on it and is still covered by warranty, but I feel like I'm getting the runaround from both the dealership and customer service. I still do not have a loaner vehicle. Engine had already had a full replacement within the first 35,000 miles. Driving down the road at 55 MPH and engine stops completely. Have to coast into a neighborhood. Luckily I was able to get out of the road. Pulled over and turn the truck off. Tried to start it and it never would turn over. Came back an hour later to see if it just needed turn off for a bit and restarted. Tried to start it and it started right up. Drove it around the block and then decided to drive to an auto store to test the battery. Before I could get to the store the truck shut off again while driving in the middle of the busiest road in town during rush hour traffic. Had it towed to the dealership and they said I need an engine replacement. This 6.2 motor is completely unreliable and a hazard to anyone driving it. No warning lights, no indication it was going to fail. I keep up with all my maintenance. I drive under control and at the speed limit and I don't tow anything.

Apr 17, 2025

I had complete engine failure due to rod bearing failure resulting in the engine locking up and leaving me stranded on the road in 20° weather while waiting 2 hours for a tow truck. My safety was in jeopardy when this happened due to the extreme cold and being stuck on the side of a very busy highway. There was no warning and no warning lights on the dash prior to the engine failure. The engine in my truck is the L87 which is GM’s 6.2 liter V8. Once the truck was towed to the dealership they told me it was completely locked up and the needed a complete engine replacement that took over 8 weeks. Dealership told me the seized engine would be sent back to GM so they could inspect it for causes on why the rod bearings failed resulting in the seizure of the engine.

Apr 6, 2025

vehicle shifted strange than reduced power which forced me the pull off the road in a unsafe manner

Apr 1, 2025

Truck died and had to have it towed to the dealership. They called me and told me they engine had seized from from bearing failure.

Mar 20, 2025

I suddenly lost all power in my pickup. I'd try to accelerate and it would just lag and then all of a sudden it would gain power and take off. It wouldn't shift gears and I could not go over 30 mph, as it was running at about 2-3000 rpm. Once I was in a safe spot to stop, it would not shift into manual or reverse.

Mar 18, 2025

The transmission on this vehicle has given me problems. I have had the vehicle in a certified garage many times with complaints of a hard shifting transmission. First Chevrolet told me “it’s normal” but there is nothing normal about jerking so hard it throws a drink from a cup holder. Then I was told I needed a transmission wash. That was about $500 for it to “fix” the problem. Chevrolet told me the transmission was may or may not work and it may only be temporary. In my case it has reduced the hard shifting transmission but it’s still obvious. Now when I drive I remove my foot from the accelerator when it shifts from 1st to 2nd. I also make sure to keep a spill proof lid on my coffee because I never know when the transmission may throw it out of the cup holder.

03/08/2025 While at Interstate speed engine turned off as did the entire vehicle electrical system in the truck. Steering control was maintained (though not power assisted) and brake control was in the same position. Truck was brought to a safe position in the breakdown lane and a re start was attempted to find that engine would not rotate and a number of dash indications were displayed including check engine. No indication of low oil pressure light nor any other warning was displayed prior engine shutdown event were noted. Truck was taken to an independent repair center for evaluation. Initial inspection noted that engine would neither turn via electric starter nor by manual rotation of crank shaft with a socket and breaker bar. Truck may be inspected near owners residence. Safety risk was low due to the low traffic condition of the interstate travelled at the time.

The contact owns a 2022 GMC Sierra 1500. The contact stated that after shifting to park(P) and turning off the vehicle, the message "Shift to Park" remained displayed on the instrument panel, with an audible chime coming from the vehicle. The contact was forced to use the key fob to lock and unlock the doors several times to correct the failure. The dealer was notified of the failure and an appointment was scheduled to have the vehicle repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and provided the contact with a case number. The contact was then referred to the NHTSA Hotline to report the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was unknown.

The contact owns a 2022 GMC Sierra 1500. The contact stated that while her husband was driving 30-35 MPH, the vehicle stalled. No warning lights were illuminated. The contact's husband was able to pull over onto the side of the road. The contact's husband attempted to restart the vehicle, and the vehicle failed to restart. The vehicle was towed to the dealer where it was diagnosed and determined that the engine had seized and needed to be replaced. The contact's husband stated that the tow truck driver could not move the gear shifter into neutral(N) when the vehicle was being towed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vehicle remained at the dealer and had not been driven since. The failure mileage was 81,000.

Engine catastrophic failure while under extended warranty. Engine failed in February of 24 however I had told dealership I was having troubles with Engine and shifting also tires from 1st 11000 miles it also kept reduce power on me and basically shut down 3 times in middle of hwy. The 6.2 engine locked up on the mechanic who was test driving it. Took 3 months

Feb 28, 2025

While driving at 65 mph, the engine locked up, the truck went into neutral, and all power was lost. This occurred with no warning at all. The truck was towed 40 miles to a GMC dealership for repairs. GMC dealership has indicated that the engine is permanently locked up and will have to be replaced. The dealership did not provide any explanation as to why the engine locked up.

Coolant control valve failure (P1098) after 50k service. When this engine code appears the vehicle goes into reduced power mode. While it does this at inopportune time and creates potential for colission with other vehicles such as when merging with traffic. The coolant control valve is a known issue and GM has just recently recalssified it from their powertrain warranty to their much shorter bumper to bumper or emissions warranty without notifity owners of this change. This move directly puts owners and drivers at risk while on the road. GM should be accountable to resolve this problem as failures are across multiples years and are happening to vehicles at all milages with some less than 5k miles. This is an obvious failure on their part and they should be required to rectify the situation.

On or around January 27 2025 my 2022 sierra loss power and shut down at night and dropped to 0 rpm. I was close to the house and got pulled home by relative. When I did get it cranked lifters were tapping which was common in the 6.2 but I drained my oil and filter and saw the glitter look. Truck was still tapping after warmed up. Last night I about got hit at an intersection when same thing happened. I felt a jar, and truck went to zero rpm and loss power. Truck said, put in neutral and try again. When I pushed starter had a click. Then I pushed start again and it started smoking. It burnt my starter up, because engine is seized. I saw where there is an investigation on this and I really hope it goes through because that was a scary moment and it is safety concern. Twice the same thing. But now can’t turn crankshaft, nothing to drive, making payments on a 80,000 truck that is my personal and work vehicle. 92000 miles on my truck and have my oil changed regularly. I’m stuck between rock and hard place, but will be getting it towed to a dealer somewhere. To here I need a 6.2l engine in my sierra slt. 2 year old truck it is stressful. I know im going to here 10,000 $$$ I don’t have.

Engine - catastrophic failure 6.2 liter V8. Vehicle is currently at dealer awaiting full engine replacement. Failure left me stranded waiting for tow to dealer. Problem has been diagnosed as rod and main bearing failure, engine replacement imminent. Vehicle was running perfectly fine all day. Went to take my daughter to basketball practice in evening initially everything was fine, then we heard squeeking, turned around to bring right back home, lost power in intersection, truck stalled. Got restarted check engine light came on and limp mode reduced power activated. Truck towed to dealer and oil pan was pulled. Rob and main bearings have scattered metal throughout the engine. Truck confirmed to need full replacement.

Used my truck to back out of the driveway and wouldn't go into reverse at all. Towed to dealership and said problem was transmission valve body went bad. Dealership said TVB fail all the time in these trucks. They told me that this part is on back order and could be 2 or 3 months to get part in. GM has and known transmission issues . This truck is little over 2 years old and only has 40k on it. I'm hearing that TVB are failing while driving and creating dangerous situations and GM isn't doing anything about . Truck is under PT warranty. I asked what can't GM just put a new transmission in? They say it's not cost effective. So cost is over safety i said!

My 2022 Sierra Denali shows message "Shift To Park" when turning off, even though it has been shifted to park, the dashboard stays lit as well as the radio on. Horn even goes off alerting as if the engine is on and me walking away with the key in my pocket even though engine is off. Have to play with shifter to get it to stop, sometimes turning it back on and off will do trick. Locking it with remote works most of the time but when this happens, I can't use remoteless key access, door just won't lock.

The contact owns a 2022 GMC Sierra 1500. The contact stated while her husband was driving 40-45 MPH, the vehicle experienced reduced engine power and failed to exceed 30 MPH. The driver was able to pull to the side of the road. The driver turned off and restarted the vehicle. The contact stated that upon shifting to reverse(R), the RPM decreased, and the vehicle failed to respond. The driver was able to drive to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the transmission had failed, and there were metal shavings inside the transmission. The dealer determined that the transmission needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that the VIN was not included in a related recall. The manufacturer referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline for the VIN to be added to a recall. The failure mileage was approximately 90,000.

When the truck reaches approximately 50mph it is unable to shift into the next gears and then it's unable to downshift. The transmission will not go into neutral. The truck must be stopped and turned off, sometimes it will need to be restarted 2x before it's able to shift into first gear. The outdoors temperature was approximately 24F, transmission temp was 178F. The truck locked into 7th gear 6x in a row while the transmission was set to normal driving mode. There were no signs of transmission failure until the vehicle reached approximately 50mph, afterwards the check engine light illuminated, a warning stating "reduced acceleration drive with care" and "service transmission now unable to shift soon". The trucks RPMs were approximately 2500rpm while driving 45mph and would not go down because the transmission would not shift up or down.

The transmission failed without warning. The truck jerked several times and wouldn't go forward, eventually stopping, putting the driver at risk of being hit or losing control. There were no warning lights or issues prior to this. It was towed to the dealer who knew immediately that the transmission valve body had failed. He said this is a known problem and in fact there was a service bulletin issued last year by GM. As of now he told us there are 2000 vehicles waiting for this part. The part has been redesigned because GM knew it was faulty. Our truck is still at the dealer waiting for the part after a month. Others have been waiting for months. GM is not allocating the part for current customers but instead putting the majority in new vehicles even though they know there are thousands of vehicles less than 3 years old on the road and putting people in danger! The rest of us are left without a vehicle. You are welcome to inspect our truck at the dealership where it currently sits.

In the past 6 years I have owned 4 GMC 6.2L trucks the first was a 2019 no issues great truck. The second unfortunately had a Short life with another vehicle. In 2023 The third a 2021 Denali 6.2L truck at 34k began using oil and blowing blue smoke out the tailpipes. The dealer started an oil consumption test (like you couldn’t see it happening) so finally at 45k they tore down the engine and found worn out valve guides and scored cylinders. They ordered an engine the engine was installed and it failed in 25 miles come to find out it was not oiling on one bank, A second motor was ordered and installed it failed at start up. At this time it had been months that the truck was down. The dealer took a stand and moved me into a 2022 GMC AT4 with 6.2L with the hopes of removing the issue this truck was the internet sales managers truck that he had recently bought and had 15k on. We made the deal, well at 35k this truck begins consuming oil. The dealer once again starts the oil consumption test process. A couple of months ago. The truck now has 42k or so on it and on my last trip from Atlanta to Fort Walton after the dealer just topped it off 2 1/2 weeks prior to the first 2500 interval of the oil consumption test, the truck burned 1 1/2quarts in less than 2k miles and the oil warning light comes on as we arrive in Fort Walton. I would like a resolution to this, I have invested a lot of money into what should be one of the most reliable trucks on the road and all I hear is GM says it’s not met their threshold of a problem and you should expect to have to add oil to a truck with less than 45k on it and it’s not a problem. It’s already been proven with the 2021 that GM has a problem, I as well as the other 100,000 or so individuals with this same engine and GM knows it’s a problem with the quality of the engine build. GM has a quality issue and knows it but they are not addressing it, just making the consumer jump through hoops and not finding a fix in 5 yr's is bad

The engine failed while driving on the expressway. It is clearly the fault of the Active Fuel Management (AFM) system but GMC will not honor the warranty because I went over 7,500 miles between oil changes. This is a problem because the car stopped operating while driving down the interstate. Manufacturer inspection took place. They looked at the oil filter and saw the metal in the oil filter. No warning lamps, messages or symptoms of any sort prior to the engine failure.

The transmission became inoperable and a message appeared on the display 'Engine Power Is Reduced' in area of the highway where the speed limit is 55 and then the transmission failed completely and left the engine revving at high rpm and not moving the vehicle forward and we rolled to the side of the road to a stop. This was a very dangerous situation as traffic was flying past us and had to move out of the way of our coasting vehicle. It was towed to a GMC dealership about 8 miles away as it is still under warranty. I've read many stories in GM forums about problems with this GM 10 speed transmission in this pickup truck. This needs to be looked into as a potential recall as this problem left us stranded on the side of the road as we had to wait for a ride because we had a dog with wife and I. Currently there is not a transmission recall listed for this vehicle. We were lucky to be in an area where we had cell phone service and relatively close to home, within 10 miles. We have a trip planned for next weekend to go to a couple national parks in Utah and now we don' t have a vehicle to take on this trip to haul out bikes.

While driving my Vehicle down Interstate 20 in Odessa TX the engine locked up and quit running at 70 mph in traffic. The truck is 13 months old with 17,000 miles on it. No warning lamps or alarms prior to the truck just shutting down. It was towed to the nearest GM Dealership and the Maintenance facility was able to diagnose that the motor was locked up. It was towed back to the purchase dealership in Shreveport LA at owner expense of $2,500.

While driving my 2022 Sierra elevation in April of 2023 my check engine light and a reduced power light came on and onstar diagnostics gave me a code of P30B2. Made a service appointment and was told there was an issue with the wiring. Problem was fix so i was told by the dealership, but the check engine light has come on 3 more times for the same reason.

Dec 21, 2022 Crash

Truck was placed in Park on an inclined road. Exiting truck, truck started to roll backwards. I was struck and right foot was run over by Driver's side front tire and knocked down. I was wearing composite toe shoes which enabled me to get up and run after the truck, trying to stop and control the truck a second time. I was hit again and thrown off the side of the road into a briar patch. Truck continued to roll backwards and off the road into the woods. Upon investigation, two separate County Deputy Sheriffs confirmed that the truck. when it came to rest, confirmed the truck was still in the Park position. Truck had to be towed out of a ditch in the woods. I sustained moderate injuries, but thankfully was not catastrophically disabled. This should be investigated thoroughly, so that no other person(s) is injured or dies as a result of this defect.

On 05/28/2022 my family was driving my brand new 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 3.0 Diesel at a rate of 60mph. There was suddenly a loud clunk (transmission) after proceeding a little further and getting speed back to 60mph there was a similar “clunk”… the diesel truck then immediately gained several various check engine / sensor lights all over the dash and went into Limp Mode. Speed slowly decreased from 60mph and finally as we were navigating our final left turn to our destination the truck would not accelerate thru an intersection subjecting our entire family to utter danger of oncoming vehicles. As a last ditch effort to save ourselves I put the truck in reverse and was able to reverse about 2mph. Then proceeded to shut the truck down and turn it back on to get out of the intersection, but the truck would not come out of park. Onstar emergency was contacted to call the police as we were in an extremely dangerous situation. This truck nearly caused our entire family to get in a very bad collision. The truck was stuck in the middle of the intersection for over 2 hours. The police even attempted to help getting the truck out of park , but was unsuccessful. The truck was scanned on site and had various codes including C1555 (x4) U0101 (x2) P25A2 U220F Collision assist light Check engine light Service Traction Control Light Service ESC The truck experienced catastrophic failure at only 319 miles. Day 4 of ownership. This vehicle needs to be investigated if it is failing this early on. There also needs to be a manual release for the parking gear. Truck has no way to be placed in neutral upon failure of the transmission relay.
