Grille deflector was torn off the vehicle while driving at highway speeds.
I was driving down the interstate going 64mph and my grill deflector flew off. Then a piece of the bracket flew up and landed on the hood about 7-10 miles afterwards.
Just purchased 2022 GMC Sierra elevation with 25,000 miles on it. The undercarriage is completely rusted and makes a terrible ticking noise. I have read that there is recalls and issues with this on a lot of of the trucks.
After completion of a recall fix by the dealer for the grill while driving the front grill deflector detached striking the front hood and top of the cab before flying behind my vehicle barely missing a following vehicle and settling alongside the road. I pulled over, inspected the front of my vehicle to assure it was safely drivable. Once I removed loose pieces I returned and retrieved the top grill from the roadside then drove directly to the dealer who completed the recall fix. They have ordered a full grill for replacement. The recall fix/repair failed within day of completion. GM Program # N242490120 Status Complete NHTSA 25V060 Date Issued: 2025-02-06 Description General Motors has decided that a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety may exist in certain 2022 model year GMC Sierra 1500 vehicles equipped with chrome front grille deflectors. One or more of the attachments that hold the front upper grille deflector in place may fracture over time. If all eight attachment points break, the deflector may detach from the vehicle while driving. Safety Risk Description If a front grille deflector detaches unexpectedly while driving, there is increased risk of a crash. Repair Description Dealers will reinforce or repair all attachment points on the chrome front grille deflector. Recall Completed 2025-08-21
Recall Number N242490120 was performed in April 2025 at: Rivard Buick GMC, Tampa, Florida, Phone # 813-620-6500 The Grille was inspected and repaired with adhesive to reinforce the plastic tabs to the grille so it would not detach and cause a safety issue when driving. This recall was performed before we purchased the vehicle and we are located in Oklahoma City, OK. The vehicle has been listed for sale at our car dealership in Oklahoma City and had to have multiple Warranty Repairs at GMC/Chevy over the summer. We Sold the vehicle on [XXX] to a customer: [XXX] and he was driving the vehicle and the Grille detached and fell off the vehicle while driving. The Grille hit his hood and windshield and caused damage. He could have had an accident when the grille detached from the front of the vehicle. We dropped the vehicle off at Bob Howard GMC on 8/26/25 and they said since the recall has been performed that it is not covered and nothing they can do about fixing it under Recall or Warranty. We reached out to GMC Customer Service 1800 # and they told us the same thing, and we would have to repair it out of pocket. I find this extremely unprofessional and avoiding taking care of the issue that should have been taken care of the first time. The part is faulty and part of the Recall to be repaired or replaced properly so this hazardous part does not cause a problem while driving and that is exactly what happened even after having the recall taken care of at GMC. We at La Raza Motors Inc. have inspected the vehicle/Grille and upon discovering the previous recall/repair that was performed at Rivard Buick GMC in Tampa, Florida, the Grille was not properly repaired and not up to standard. This part should have been replaced instead of repaired. [XXX] retrieved the broken/detached Grille after it detached to see what had happened and we have pictures. No police report was made at the time of the incident. No lights or warnings were on at the time of the incident. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT
The front upper grille deflector/hood bulge flew off randomly while driving. No signs of it previously detaching or anything. Just came off.
GMC Sierra 1500 Front Upper Top Grille Molding Trim randomly flew off at highway speed. Hit the windshield and the vehicle behind me. No warning
March 28, 2025: A recall (NHTSA Recall No. : 25V-060) service for the front upper grille deflector was performed. August 7, 2025: The front upper grille deflector flew off my truck while I was driving on the interstate, despite the recent recall service. The failure of a recall repair is particularly alarming and a serious safety hazard.
The contact owns a 2022 GMC Sierra 1500. The contact stated that while driving 60 MPH on the highway, the front grill detached. No warning light was illuminated prior to or during the failure. While driving on [XXX] from Houston to San Antonio the front Grille spontaneously flew off from my hood and hit my windshield. Grille damaged the hood but no known damage to shield. This was very frightening while on a highway because it almost caused me to crash as it triggered my PTSD from the blast and led me to swerve. Fortunately I regained vehicle control and avoided other damage to others. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
Multiple times today my tailgate dropped randomly without my knowledge. With the tailgate randomly dropping, and no warning lamps, messages, or other symptoms, it puts others at risk due to the potential for the contents of the truck bed to fall out into traffic causing damage or bodily injury to others on the road. During my research on what could cause this to occur, I was made aware of a recall of this same make, model, and year vehicle. The description of the reason for the recall was exactly what I experienced with my vehicle. I immediately attempted to confirm that my vehicle was listed on the recall by entering by VIN online. I discovered that there was not an active recall on my specific vehicle, so I contacted the nearest GMC dealership. After speaking with the service tech, he confirmed that my symptoms was exactly what the dealership had addressed with other vehicles that were on the recall list. He confirmed that my VIN was not included, yet the recall did have the same make, model, and year. I will be making an appointment at my dealership to repair this at my expense since it is not covered on the recall.

Hello, I wish to report this injury / incident with the failure of the power running boards on my 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 Denali Limited. There are no warning Lamps on the vehicle. The truck is regularly serviced and inspected. The truck recently had a multi-point inspection at the dealer. The power running boards started to come out after I opened my door, as I stepped down, the steps retracted and went back in causing me to fall hard on the ground and smash my knees. Driver and passenger sides are now acting up, even with the truck parked and locked, passenger side wants to go in and out on its own and sometimes extends to the tire. As I researched this problem, I found out that others have had similar issues with the same vehicles that have these power running boards. I removed the fuse now to prevent further injuries.
The contact owns a 2022 GMC Sierra 1500. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 25V060000 (Structure); however, the part to do the recall repair was unavailable. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was determined that the chrome front grille deflectors needed to be replaced. The dealer confirmed that parts were not yet available. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. The contact had not experienced a failure. Parts distribution disconnect.
The grill piece that is recalled flew off while I was driving on the highway on March 14th. I called the dealership that day to get my truck in but could not be seen until April 21st. After having the vehicle at the dealership they said the part to replace is backorder with no ETA of when it will be available.
Tailgate comes unlatched and tailgate came down multiple times in motion and parked. Safety concerns loosing cargo and causing accidents. My vehicle is not included in the recall and dealer cannot help only repair for 146.80. I feel that my vehicle should be included to the already existing recall and reimbursement for repair.
Top section of front grill (directly below the hood) broke and came up while driving down the highway with no prior indication or damage.
Paint is chipping on the body of truck. Door panels and more.
Complete engine failure. Replaced engine in February of 2024. Multiple transmission issues. Grill completely peeling off.
Driving at highway speed the upper part of the front grill assembly detached at the hood, hitting the windshield on the drivers side causing the windshield to shatter in front of the driver. The piece flew back and hit the car behind me. This would have been an accident with a less experienced driver
The contact owns a 2022 GMC Sierra 1500. The contact stated while driving approximately 75 MPH, the front chrome grille deflector erroneously detached from the vehicle and ejected over the hood of the vehicle striking the front windshield before nearly hitting another moving vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer who informed the contact of NHTSA Campaign Number: 25V060000 (STRUCTURE). The contact stated that the vehicle had experienced the failure listed in the recall. The manufacturer was not yet contacted. The failure mileage was 39,541.

The front chrome grill on my Sierra 1500 SLT has begun to detach, and there is currently a recall for this specific component on my vehicle. I took my truck to GMC Covert Bee Cave to get this recall and 1 other recall fixed, but GM does not have a remedy for grill. Not only does this pose a safety risk to myself, but I use my truck as a source of income by renting it out on Turo, and Turo has unlisted my truck from the app indefinitely or until this remedy is resolved. The paperwork I received from the dealership confirms GM has no remedy for the recall, and they sent me on my way without even offering a replacement vehicle. My truck is available for inspecting if you would like to see it. My safety and others safety is at risk if this recall does not receive a remedy or if GM does not give me a replacement vehicle in the meantime. No warning lights or any other systems can notify me if the grill is going to detach all the way, and I will not be able to have this source of income from Turo without the ability to have my truck relisted.
I was driving on [XXX] in Louisiana and the front grille fin break free, struck my windshield and then landed in the middle of the Interstate. Thankfully no one struck it behind me. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
Front grill upper trim piece ripped off after strong wind gust while driving at highway speed. Grill flew up and hit windshield causing small glass chip. This event occurred on 2/13/25 and this item is now a known GM recall for this vehicle which was issued on 2/11/25.
While driving on the highway my front grill upper molding flew off and hit my hood and windshield. It ended up landing in the middle of the highway and other vehicles running it over.
Driving at highway speeds 60 mph. The upper grille (as GMC calls it) came off of the truck, hit my windshield and the car behind me also hit it. This is a known GM problem and they are not issuing a recall on this. We are lucky the car behind me didn't suffer any damage nor swerve to miss the flying piece of my vehicle. This is a huge safety concern that needs to be addressed. A quick google search will reveal many other people having this same issue. Some stating damage to their vehicle as a result.
I was driving home from work on the highway, when the top part of the front grill broke off and flew up hitting the windshield. It caused me to abruptly swerve into the other lane of the highway. Luckily there was nobody in the other lane. The part could of also hit another car that was behind me. Going on line, I see this is quite common issue for 2022 GMC trucks and it occurs on the same conditions, driving down the highway. I suggest a recall to get this fixed.
I was on the interstate going 60-70 mph and I noticed that my front upper trim of the grille was flapping and then just flew off my grille
While driving on the interstate at 75 mph, the top trim from my grill flew off unprovoked hitting my windshield and roof of the truck. Luckily there wasn't anyone behind us but the noise definitely spooked myself and the passenger not knowing what just hit the windshield. I took it into the dealer from who I purchased the truck and told the entire grill must be replaced for a whopping $1571.26 not covered under warranty. The truck only has 24000 miles on it and cost near $80K. Thanks GMC!! Scorned customer.
Entering a freeway and getting up to speed, the moulding between my grille and hood flew off. I was not able to recover it, therefore it has not been inspected by anyone. Luckily, this happened at night when there were very few drivers on the road, but had it happened during a busy time, it is likely that piece would have hit another vehicle(s). It has been reported as a problem on many forums. This happened without warning and there were no warnings after it occurred.
Driving on the highway, the upper grill molding on the leading edge of the hood broke off and came up and hit the windshield and top of the cab. Upon further research online, this seems to be a pretty common occurrence on sierras with the at4 trim package. I was told by the dealership that extended warranty does not cover this and I would have to order an entire new grille, over $1000
Trim piece of chromed plastic on the front of the hood broke off and flew over the truck while traveling at 65mph. Fortunately no vehicles were close behind, but it could have damaged a following vehicle and/or caused them to swerve to avoid. This part is obviously a defective assembly. Photo available
As I was traveling down the interstate at about 70 mph the front upper grille moulding flew off and almost hit the vehicle behind me. The clips that held this on the vehicle are very weak and this is happening to many of the same vehicles. Had I hit a car behind me there could have been significant damage, and luckily there was not a motorcyclist behind me. I did not hear any rattling or have any damage to the vehicle, this is simply a manufacturer's issue.
While driving approximately 70mph down the freeway the upper grille assembly snapped off and went airborne, it struck the passenger side of my windshield putting 2 large scratches on my windshield. It then hit the roof of the vehicle and continued over my vehicle. Upon inspection the guard is held on by extremely thin clips and all clips sheared in almost identical spots. This creates a huge safety hazard for motorists behind the Vehicle that could be struck by the flying piece.
While driving down the highway, then without any warning the front upper lip of truck grille flew off randomly. The broken piece shattered windshield and caused damage to body of vehicle. Reported to dealer, but they said I must have hit something to cause the damage. I did not hit anything. I was simply driving down the highway. This was a failure of the truck.
Upper molding of grille flew off while driving. Seems to be a common problem amongst 2022 Models of AT4
The contact owns a 2022 GMC Sierra 1500. The contact stated while driving 65 MPH, the radiator grille detached from the front on the vehicle. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer or independent mechanic to be inspected or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but offered no assistance. The approximate failure mileage was 50,000.
Mileage: 50,000
Upper trim piece of grill broke off while traveling down roar at 60mph. Part struck my windshield and flew over cab of vehicle and impacted the vehicle traveling behind me. Could've caused a much more serious accident!
Upper trim on front grille fly off while driving. All clips were broken, very thin plastic. This piece of trim nearly hit the vehicle behind me while driving 45-50mph. I've noticed there are many owners experiencing the same issue. The trim piece is separate from the grille but GM will only sell the full grille replacement. The upper piece needs to be redesigned for safety purposes and replaced on all similar models.
While driving home from work, on the highway. Travelling 68 mph. The upper moulding on the front grille blew off, struck my windshield and landed on the highway behind me. Vehicles behind me had to swerve and slow as a result. I waited for a safe time to pull over and turn around to go back and retrieve the piece. Once retrieved, I could see the plastic clips had broken. Some are still missing. Wry dangerous situation, luckily it was not dark outside, otherwise I imagine other vehicles behind me may not have seen it, could have caused a bad accident.
Top Grill piece attached to hood blew off in the wind.
As I was driving down the highway, the top piece of the grill flew off, went airborne, and almost struck the vehicle behind me. When I got home, I looked to see what caused this to happen. The piece was secured by flimsy plastic clips which had broken off. This is a complete manufacturing defect which is on GMC Sierra 1500s years 2022 to present and needs to be recalled. It's happening to a huge number of people based on the reports on Facebook groups.
Upper grille trim piece flew off.
I was driving on the highway at approximately 65mph and the upper top moulding suddenly broke off, flew across my truck hitting my windshield, before landing in traffic. I had not had any previous damage to my truck prior to this incident. I am concerned this is a widespread issue that is creating an undue burden on the owners and potentially create unsafe conditions to nearby vehicles/pedestrians. I took my truck to the dealership as I have a warranty, but they refused to cover the cost of replacement.
I was driving down the highway at approximately 60 mph, and the upper front trim from above the grill flew off, struck, and cracked my windshield. Based on my research, this is a very common problem and a serious safety concern for drivers of 2022-2024 GMC Sierras. It is also a safety issue to the general public for anyone traveling or walking near this vehicle when this condition occurs. There was also an article published on gmauthority website about this common issue as well as multiple Reddit posts and GM Forums.
The upper molding the the grille broke off while driving at high speed and likely caused issues for following cars. After researching the issue, this is a common problem with owners of this model. It is $1,500 to get replaced.
As I was driving down the road the front upper lip of my grill blew off and hit my windshield and then flew into car behind me. Looked online and this is a very common theme with GMC built in 2021 & 2022.
Grille trim piece came detached while driving on freeway damaging hood. Could have flown off and hit another vehicle. Took truck to dealership and it was replaced under warranty. Seems to be a known defect, lots of other people with same issue on Reddit.
On October 10 about 9am driving out of town on vacation for not reason at all my 2022 Sierra 1500 front upper lip of my grille broke off on freeway and we could not find it.
Driving down the road at 60 mph, the front upper grill piece just came off, flew up into the windshield and then over the cab of the truck and landed in the street. This is a known defect on these trucks and has happened in 100's of cases. When it happens it makes you react as if you had hit something with the truck, if there had been anyone behind me it could have also caused damage or made them react badly to something flying thru the air. When it happened to me I was prepared for it since I had read online of it happening to so many people. The cause is that its build with really flimsy, very thin tabs that just cant hold up to the wind speed and use needed for being mounted in the front of the vehicle.
Front upper grill trim piece flew off truck causing a safety hazard for myself and others behind me. Flimsy tabs had broken and wind ripped the trim off.
Upper bumper flew off driving on the highway
The upper trim piece of the grille broke off while driving down the road the other day. The piece flew up onto the window creating a distraction to myself and the vehicles behind me. The problem can not be reproduced by the dealership as its broken in pieces on the side of the road. Based on internet research this is a common occurrence. The vehicle has not been inspected by others There where no warning signs, messages or symptoms of the problem prior to the failure of the grille.
Driving down the road and a large section of my grill came flying off the truck, hitting my windshield and the car being me. I pulled over as soon as it happened and the car that was hit kept going and did not stop. After a search on the internet it has brought up serval cases of this happening to other owners. This would of killed a motorcycle driver if he was behind me. We need action. [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
The upper front grill molding flew off the vehicle while moving and the parts are available for inspection. Please see uploaded photos. The safety of motorcyclist and other vehicles following me were put at risk of being hit by a 24 inch wide piece of the upper front grill at high speed that flew off the vehicle while traveling on the highway without warning. The problem has been confirmed and reported by numerous vehicle owners like mine posted in online forms that I have attached to the upload files section of this correspondence. The vehicle was inspected for repairs by the manufactures dealership representative and a repair invoice has been uploaded. There were no warnings prior to the failure of the upper grill molding being dislodged from the front grill while the vehicle was moving.
While driving in the highway at 60 mph, the top of the front grille flew off, hit the hood, and impacted the windshield before flying off to the passenger side of the vehicle. It impacted multiple locations on the passenger side of the vehicle as it flew off. Nothing hit the grille at the time it flew off. We were driving on a busy highway. Thankfully, the cars behind us were at a safe distance. If there were a motorcycle or another vehicle, it could have seriously injured someone or caused them to swerve their vehicle. Researching this online, multiple owners of the same vehicle have experienced the same issue. Many experiencing it when traveling at highway speeds. It seems like the thin plastic tabs that attach the top grille piece to the front of the vehicle are not strong enough to hold it. No damage had been done to the grille prior to the incident. I always use a touchless car wash, so it wasn’t loosened by that. I haven't contacted insurance or filed a police report. I'm hopeful the damage will be covered under the manufacturer warrant.
I was driving down the interstate when the top trim panel of my grille flew off my truck. The piece flew into the traffic behind me, and fortunately, no one was injured. If there was a motorcycle behind me, the rider could have been severely injured or killed. The piece that flew off is located just above the grille and below the front edge of the hood. Multiple people have reported the same issue with their trucks. This morning, the parts department at my dealership confirmed that I was not the only customer to present this problem. There is nothing to warn of the problem before this piece flies into traffic.
A large part of the grill on the front of my truck but broke off on it's own while I was driving. The part is called the Upper Grill Molding Part number 20863. It's about the size of a ski (5.5 ft long and 6 inches wide). It flew off and almost hit the car traveling behind me. They had to swerve off the road to avoid hitting it and almost got into an accident. After inspecting the part and how it is supposed to attach to the grill, it is apparent that is was very cheapy installed with flimsy plastic mounts and minimal glue. My truck only had 19,000 miles on it when this happened. I took it to the GMC dealer and they said the entire grill would have to be replaced because they don't sell that part separately. I researched this issue online and found thousands of other cases with the same scenario happening. This manufacturer's defect should be recalled as it poses a severe safety risk to pedestrians and other vehicles.
A large trim piece at the top of my grill flew off while driving 70+ on the highway. I have personally seen roughly 100 testimonies with picture proof on various fb pages of others with the same vehicle experiencing the same thing. This is a known issue for the 2022-2023 model years, GM has apparently corrected the issue for the 24+ model years.
I was driving on the highway around 70-75 mph and the upper moulding on the grille flew off and hit the windshield
I was driving down the highway at 65 when the upper front hood molding flew off and bounced off my windshield. There were motorcycles behind me but none were hit. After researching on [XXX] , many others have had the same thing happen. This could have broken my windshield, or worse, hit a motorcyclist behind me causing a wreck. It has not been inspected but reported by many others on GMC forums. There was no warning whatsoever. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

Problem #1: initially reported issue with check engine light coming on when driving in rain or getting vehicle washed. Research shows grounding issues. Dealership replaced BCM but problem persists. Reported problem again but no actions are being taken
While commuting on a US Hwy the front upper grill came off the vehicle flying into the windshield and surrounding traffic. Research online shows that this occurrence happens with the same vehicle with different owners. This is a life safety issue that also is not being repaired by the manufacturer.
When traveling out of town on the interstate approximately 70/75mph. Part of our hood/trimming deluged scraping our hood and nearly Colliding with two other vehicles. Not something that is common and seems to me a manufacture defect that GM is trying to wipe their hands of and I will not stand for that. I have been trying for about a month to get GM to repair this odd phenomenon. However they continue to give me the complete run around. It’s been absolutely impossible to get a hold of anybody the dealership will not help me. I keep receiving email from Gm saying they attempted to make contact but, I did not answer my phone. I have my phone on me at all times I have received no voicemails from them. I write and called them back. I haven’t received a return call/voicemails, or email. GM originally refer me back to the dealership when the dealership will not help me. They originally said they will order the part. I have to pay for the part and they will pay for labor. They contacted me when they had the part in hand supposedly. I sat at the dealership for three hours today for them to tell me that part was not correct and that they can’t cover it and that I would need to cover it , I am tired of the games and I want my vehicle fixed. I have been left with no choice but to file complaint.
Tailgate randomly opened while in park. This is a problem for multiple reasons. When hauling a travel trailer when you put the truck in park the tailgate falls into the jack denting the tailgate and scratching the paint. On some trailers it would be possible for the tailgate to fall onto the jack switches causing the jack to go down unexpectedly. The only way to get the trailer off is not put the truck in Park which isn’t safe at all! The truck rolls in neutral if the parking brake isn’t on. You should be able to put the truck in park and not worry about the tailgate. I called GM a few months ago when this first happened and then it stopped until it rained this weekend while camping. I told them at the time I didn’t want it falling when I started hauling the camper. They said at the time that a dealer would have to look at it and did say there isn’t a recall on this truck like on the HD trucks so is essence I basically have to hope it does it while at the dealership so they will believe me as my word doesn’t mean anything. In my case after the switch is dry it doesn’t do it. Now I have video recording as it is memorial day and pretty hard to get it into the dealer when they are closed just to have it with fine there.
Multifunction tail gate opens while driving, opens when going over speed bumps, opens going over small bumps and opens while driving down the highway. I brought the vehicle to the GMC dealer, they replaced an electrical switch on the tail gate. This did not fix the problem, I called the dealer and they told me GMC does not have a repair for this new issue. This is a brand new truck that is under factory warrant, the truck has 10000 miles on it. If I ever have a load in the bed it may fall out onto the road or highway.
On January 20th 2024 I was cleaning heavy dirt and mud off of my truck, after leaving the car wash and driving about 20 miles, once I parked my tailgate started to open over and over on its own. This happened again on March 4th 2024 after cleaning off a lot of dirt from my vehicle the tailgate opened on its own while my truck was parked in the garage. It opened into the garage door, when I left I did not know it was open, so when I opened the garage door the hinges on the garage door scraped and dented the tailgate as it opened. I had not pressed any buttons inside the truck, outside of the truck, or pressed the tailgate open buttons on the key fob. After intense car washes it has opened on its own each time.
On Feb. 27, 2024 approx. 04:15 left for gym and work. When arrived at gym and began to park, I put truck in reverse to check back line and noticed I was looking at my license plate. I then put into park and got out of truck and shut tailgate. Thinking not much about it, I must've touched the button the night before and hit a bump on way into work. Since I have a toneau cover, it fits pretty tight and I typically have to pull it down by hand. I heard about recall that day after I got to work from co workers. Checked my VIN, but did not come up as one of the tailgate recalls. March 7, 2024- Left again for gym and work approximately same time in AM. As I was driving into gym and work, another car coming up close behind me wanted to pass. The car then suddenly backed off to a considerable distance. As I got to gym and put in reverse to check my back line, I noticed I was looking at my license plate again. I know that I did not touch a button either on FAB or tailgate. because I park in garage and leave FAB in a secure place where it can not be pressed. If tailgate was down in my garage, it would have stopped garage door from opening and/or damaged my garage door. In either instances, I did not get a sensor alarm going off on my dash for "tailgate down", If its even equipped with that alarm.
While unlocked, passenger doors go through unlocking phase, door locks click, parking lights flash and tail gate comes open. Along with this, an electric motor sound comes from underneath the vehicle (pre start fuel pressurization sequence?) that goes on and on, doors locked, or unlocked, that, left unchecked, drains the battery. Must be hooked to battery recharger round the clock.
I purchase my 2022 Denali 1500 crew cab Brand New. After a few weeks of ownership. My mulitpro tailgate would open on its own. I had taken my truck to the nearest Gmc dealer to have it looked at. They said they could not find anything wrong with it. A few month later the exact thing happen to me with my wife in the truck. Again i'm back at the dealer and they could not detect the problem. So i left and headed home. I had to take a trip to Pennsylvania and after driving with my enclosed car hauler attach. The tailgate drop open striking my trailer level wheel , putting a dent in my tailgate/ Took it back to Gmc in Alcoa Tn and again no issue or fix was provider. Still Having issues with my Multipro Tailgate opening on its own.
Tailgate occasionally self deploys. 1 incident resulted in damage to the tailgate while towing a trailer.
Tailgate inadvertently opens. There is no visual or audible alarm to inform me the rear tailgate is open. This is a Denali package truck. I have lost items, coolers, small folding tables among small items without warning. Most of the time I was traveling on a highway. Could cause accidents, injury to others as well as I have lost my belongings. I have had the dealership as well as 2 requests with GM customer service with no corrective results. The trucks tailgate will show an open display warning but only when top tailgate is down/open. If the whole tailgate is down/open there is no visual warning on dash. I believe there was an error in placement of open tailgate sensor when truck was produced. 2023 models have correct sensor placement and visual dash warning. The 2022 was a new redesign doe the Sierra class truck and there was a mistake where the open tailgate sensor was placed. I went to GMC virtual site and the 2023 model examined by GMC employee on visual check shows on complete tail gate down/open the same dash visual tail gate open alarm I see on my 2022 when only the top part of whole tailgate is open. My Dealership and GMC customer service have been involved for the past year. I have been reimbursed by GMC for my losses but problem still exists.
Vehicle does not have a notification via chime or message stating the rear tailgate is open. There is a button on the dash that can open the tailgate when the vehicle is stopped at an intersection, this can be inadvertently pressed without the driver knowing, causing the vehicle to drop any cargo when accelerating or leaving the intersection. This can lead to serious injury or to any vehicle behind it. Many owners have already reported losing cargo such as tool boxes, paint cans and groceries spilling throughout intersections.
