My engine started making a clicking noise like a playing card in a bicycle spokes. Was able to drive and make it to dealership and they determined that my engine crankshaft had to much end play and they needed to replace the engine. They had my truck approximately 2 weeks, did not provide me a loaner, nor any reimbursement for being without my truck during this time. My truck was still under the factory bumper to bumper warranty at the time.
Cylinder failed right after I had the 6.2 engine recalled. Failed on a 1200 mile daily trip through winter conditions in Utah.
I own a 2023 GMC Sierra 1500 (Black Widow Edition). The Truck has only 23000 miles on it. I experienced an Idle engine warning mid driving, and oil hot warning. It did Shutdown the engine of the vehicle and as I was trying to merge safely to the right lane and right side of the way the steering became very hard which put me and 3 of my employees in danger. After parking safely, I did call onstar and they ended up towing the truck while we waited for hours in the dark and cold temperature to get a ride. State police and Mdot did not show up even though we called them multiple times. This was a nightmare.
ECM - Engine System code P0700 and TCM - Transmission System code U0073. The truck went in to first gear and wouldn't go over 5 MPH on the highway. The dealer is saying it can't be replicated but it's happened multiple times to the vehicle in the past week. The truck was taken to the dealership and inspected but they claim nothing is wrong. The check engine light came on as well as the aforementioned codes.
While stopped at traffic signal, vehicle suddenly stops running. Restarted vehicle and had to feather the throttle to keep it running. Engine began to run normally so I continued driving. When I reached approximately 35 mph, a loud rattling noise started and experienced a severe loss of power. Fortunately I was able to safely get out of the traffic lanes to the side of the roadway. I inspected the vehicle, no oil leaks, no coolant or transmission leaks. No warning indicators on the dash. Oil pressure normal. Temperature normal. I limped the vehicle home to be towed to dealer. Approximately 2 months ago this vehicle passed the recall inspection and had the recommended oil change. There was a previous warranty repair performed on a stuck exhaust valve in the #8 cylinder. The vehicle was also brought in to the dealer for suddenly cutting off while driving approximately 50 mph. Again I was able to pull off safely. The vehicle then started normally and I proceeded to drive. The dealer inspected the vehicle and could not replicate the issue, and found no electrical or mechanical trouble codes. There were absolutely no warning indications prior to each of these events.
The check engine light is illuminated. Diagnostic information from the OnStar system indicates a fault within the engine cooling system. The engine cooling fan remains engaged continuously, suggesting a possible malfunction with the cooling system components or related sensors.
In the past few months this truck has been worked on twice. First was the valve body and now it is the coolant control valve. These things have caused my truck to completely slow down or shut down without warning.
On August 17, 2025 while traveling north on the Garden State Parkway in New Jersey, my vehicle suffered a catastrophic engine failure without warning. Fortunately, I was able to get off the roadway without incident. This is the SECOND time this has occurred in the past 4 months. (1st NHTSA Complaint 04/18/2025 #11655375) This second engine failure occurred with less than 6000 miles, and only about 3 months of driving. As of this report, the vehicle has not been repaired.
The contact owns a 2023 GMC Sierra 1500. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the check engine warning light illuminated and the vehicle started running abnormally rough, promptly the contact to discontinue driving the vehicle. The message “Service Traction Control” was displayed, and the ABS warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, but it had not yet been diagnosed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 20,000.

To All Concerned, I scheduled my vehicle for routine maintenance, but more importantly, I scheduled my check engine light indicator logo to be activated. Following the maintenance and testing of my engine, the dealership informed me that my vehicle passed. For that matter, they put me right back on the road for the check engine light to come on the following morning, and it's still on and off as it pleases. During these very dangerous and extreme manmade and natural disasters GMC seems to think I will have peace of mind because they added an additional 5000 miles to the warranty. What good is that gonna do when for: 1. We arent safe… every scenario you can imagine. 2. Can't travel anywhere in confidence in my vehicle, because they hope I don't breakdown. 3. They gamble with my and other safe driver lives trying to save money. Our vehicles are two-ton vessels capable of creating all kinds of mess. 4. I bet if I don't pay GMC coming for their property so expect the same in return. 5. You can't make this right because my vehicle just tg the dealership two days ago. Please get to the bottom of this a save me the time, aggregation, and hassle of someone trying to convince me I'm fine… well Im not. The recall is showing complete in May 2025 but oil and filter plus new oil cap not changed or replaced. I bought the truck on June 25, 2025 from Enterprise Car Sales and was not informed about the engine of this truck was on a recall lised but have been completed. I feel unsafe driving this truck now.
Truck is starting to feel/act different. There is shaking at acceleration and deceleration. Idling is starting to fluctuate more at stop. Hoping to get this in for inspection. Dealer cannot do so with incomplete recall note on the vehicle.
Accelerating on highway and felt like the engine stalled. Coasted to a stop and the engine would not restart. There was no way to get the truck into neutral so it had to be drug onto a flat bed tow truck.
50000 miles. Getting a P1098 code for a cooling issue. Truck goes into limp mode without warning and will overheat.
Per my dealership, there is chaffing in the main wiring harness of the vehicle and the entire harness needs to be replaced. On recall N222391510, for Sierra's of the same year, the harness had to be replaced as well.
The engine failed while pulling my camper over a mountain pass. This resulted in me being stranded along side the highway with the vehicle impeding traffic. The area the vehicle broke down had no cell phone service to call for help. This engine was a replacement engine and failed with only 20,000 miles. This vehicle is effected by the recent recall the GM issued on all 6.2L engines. The were not indications the engine was going to fail.
After 1-year to date of the first time the engine seized up in 2024 and was replaced with another motor. Then around father's day weekend I went to accelerate on highway and it studder and service symbols for traction control and ESC service popped up. It shook and vibrated while running. The same dealership shop that replaced it last year stated that rods and such have failed. After not resetting the mileage on the dash board for the miles on the truck or extending the warranty on the AT4 2023 model I was skeptical as it ran rough to begin with. I was told that everything is as should be when talking to them in Jan/Feb 2025. Now we're here at the shop AGAIN. the Mechanic at the dealership the first time stated that he mentioned to the manufacturer that the issues he is seeing is tied to the motor and oil transferring and he is not surprised there are the issues but the manufacturer shrugged it off. So, after having the vehicle in my possession for 2 years, I'm having the motor replaced twice in one calendar year and without a vehicle combined and counting 2.5+ months. GMC knew about the issues and decided not to address them. I loved the truck but there were too many issues and it was my first GMC and will be my LAST. I WAS a big Chevy guy most of my life.. Now I'm considering a RAM..
Driving on the highway under normal driving condition, my check engine light came on and said service transmission. This then put the truck into "limp mode" and I was stuck going 60mph in a 75mph zone. Dealership scanned and found that the coolant sensor control flow valve is faulty. This part is in such demand for these vehicles that it is unknown when the part will be in.
Engine code P1098 indicating failure of Cooling Control Valve (CCV) at 2.5 years old, 49k miles. Display on dash indicates acceleration reduced warning, fan in engine bay running at high level while actual temperature reads normal.
Engine defect where engine can fail during travel. There is no known solution or proper notice given to me of any kind.
Recall N252494000 GM has known about this issue since January (at least) and issued a recall in April. The attached form indicates they are recalling my vehicle but they are unable to repair it. This reduces my value and potentially leads to serious accident and serious injuries. How can GM get away with this? It is a BIG DEAL for a customer to have their vehicle recalled for safety issues like this but not have the manufacturer come out with a fix? What are we as customers to do? Wait until we or someone we love are injured or killed? Please, act quickly! Perhaps a full value buyback offer? Or actually replace the engines that they already know are defective. Changing the oil viscosity as indicated at various online sites DOES NOT FIX THE PROBLEM. Please advise what recourse I should seek. Thank you very much!
The original engine in my 2023 GMC Sierra 1500 (6.2L L87) failed in November 2023 at only 2,872 miles. The dealership diagnosed engine knocking and discovered a damaged thrust bearing and crankshaft with metal debris throughout. The engine was replaced under warranty. In April 2025, GM issued Safety Recall N252494001 for the same engine model due to connecting rod and/or crankshaft manufacturing defects. According to GM’s bulletin, engine failure can result in sudden loss of propulsion and increase the risk of a crash. Despite already experiencing this failure and being within the affected model year and engine range, I have been told the recall remedy is not available to me because the campaign applies only to dealer inventory vehicles, and my recall status remains "Recall Incomplete: Remedy Not Yet Available." I requested a safety inspection of the replacement engine, but GM has refused, citing the incomplete status. When I escalated to GMC Customer Care, I was told they could not confirm whether my truck is safe or unsafe to drive. This is after already being stranded once with a family vehicle that cost nearly $80,000. I frequently drive with my family and feel I am being left at risk. GM appears to be prioritizing unsold vehicles while leaving current owners without support or assurance. The current engine has not yet failed, but I have no confidence it is safe, especially as it may include the same defective components described in the recall.
while traveling at 45 mph, vehicle starting jerking violently and lost most power. the engine began rattling very bad and extreme noises came from engine compartment.
While driving vehicle I received a message on the dashboard, "Reduced acceleration, drive with caution" and then the check engine light came on. Took the vehicle to local Autozone to get code read and was told "P1028" was the error code. Schedule an appointment with local GMC dealership for diagnosis. After three days dealership told me that the technician has diagnosed my truck with faulty "Engine Coolant Control Valve". I was told the part is backordered with no ETA. Asked for a loaner vehicle while truck is waiting repair and was told there was nothing available. When asked about what I should do transportation, dealership told me I could come pick up the truck and drive it until part arrived but I would need to watch for further engine issues as the engine could overheat. How do you tell a customer to just continue driving a vehicle with a known issue. Additional fear is what if additional harm is caused and because I drove the vehicle with a known issue they won't cover the cost of repair? This all seems fishy and unfair as a consumer.
The coolant control valve needs to be replaced. My estimated time to get the truck back is 1-2months. This appears to be a common problem. And its not covered under warranty
On June 1 my 2023 gmc sierra 1500 6.2 began making a grinding and knocking sound on the engine no previous warning or symptoms. I believe it's a problem related to the engine recall so on June 2nd I took my vehicle to the dealership Brown Chevrolet of Eagle Pass TX where I was told that it would be about two weeks for them to get to it.
The engine cooling control valve malfunctioned while driving and limited acceleration making it hard to move out of the way of driving traffic. The dealer has confirmed all is this and inspected and they are unable to get the part to replace it because of a national bank order. No warning lights until part failure.
Engine misfire, bringing vehicle to low speed. Safety was a main concern, while I was on a highway and could not maintain a flowable speed with other vehicles. The problem was confirmed by the dealer on 4/25/25 milage 77681, repaired. Then happen again on 5/9/15 milage 79091, repaired and confirmed again by a different dealer. There were no pre-warnings, once it happen all warnings went on.
Coolant bypass valve went out. The safety was questionable as the truck reduced speed rapidly makes the cars behind at risk. The problem is constant because my truck is not the only one in the shop for it. Only the dealership has inspected the truck. I bought my truck used so not sure if it appeared before I bought it but I only had my truck a week before it was in the shop. Waning lights came on and would only go off with a code reader/clearer.
Engine failed. We had just passed a semi truck when the engine lost all power. Problem was confirmed by Hart Motors (the delearship the pickup was purchased from). Vehicle was inspected by the dealership. No warnig lights or any symptoms pior to the engine failing.
Truck lost all power while towing a trailer driving on the highway. Got it over to the side of highway and lost all power and wouldn't start after parking. Dealership jad truck for over 6 weeks and replaced the motor and would not reset the milage due to manufacturer not allowing it. Since then my rods have a knocking noise occuring while vehicle is running and doesn't sound normal. Rubs rough since the engine replacement.
Engine failure at highway speed. My wife and I were driving approximately 65 miles per hour when suddenly my vehicle engine RPMs shot up but I lost all engine power and the truck became inoperable. Stranded out of state. No loaner or safe alternative transportation offered. No repair timeline provided. GM Case #: 9-15084178121. GM Customer Care provided no help whatsoever.
We were lied to by Sandy Sansing Chevrolet in Pensacola Florida. We bought a 2023 GMC 1500 SLT 6.2 liter engine (L87 V8 gas powered engine. We were told that there was nothing wrong with it and it was a previous owner that owned it. When in fact it was sold at auction! There were no problems or issues when in fact they new about serious issues and problems. GMC was able to listen to my issue and recall. And offered no solutions. I have grandchildren and my wife and I are Veterans. I’m [XXX] and my wife and I were both beside ourselves and scared of being in a accident every time we get in. We are both petrified while driving. My local GMC dealership has no remedy! We’re stuck with a truck that and who knows how long it takes for a NEW ENGINE! I just left the gas station from getting a beverage, I got onto the interstate and had gone roughly about 3 miles before setting super cruise a few minutes after that the interstate takes a turn to the left with an exit on the right. Slightly right as I was just getting into the turn my engine shutoff and or died making my truck uncontrollable causing me to drive off the interstate into some small trees between the exit and the interstate. I was not injured and no other vehicles were involved. My truck is currently at the insurances storage yard and they care claiming it to be totaled. I have contacted GM and filled a claim however they are saying they aren’t responsible because the insurance company has my truck. I feel like regardless of who has my vehicle the manufacturer should be responsible if the issue pertains to a specific recall that has already been issued 2 weeks after my accident. I have contacted several lawyers but since I wasn’t injured they aren’t interested in taking my case. My concern is I’m getting screwed over financially because my truck was only a year old and now my insurance is going to be crazy expensive when the manufacturer should be the one taking responsibility for this and not myself.
Driving on hwy at 60 mph on regular day going home and trucks all off sudden started rattling and engine knocking very loud , engine started crashing loosing power , has to merge to side of road and call tow truck
The 6.2 liter engine spun the #1 and #3 crankshaft bearings. This was confirmed by the selling dealership, Guess Motors, who performed the engine teardown. This complete engine failure was not foretold by any warnings whatsoever. I was able to drive vehicle to the dealership before it stopped running. The dealership has ordered a replacement entire engine from GM however no delivery date has been received and this occurred on 04-04-2025. On 04-24-2025 GM issued recall # N252494001 on this engine configuration.
First GMC had my car 6 weeks for a problem with the coolant control valve which failed making the truck underivable. They couldn't fix it due to not being able to get the part with a national backorder. After a few weeks having the truck back I started having erratic bucking and shifting problems and once again the engine light came on and then truck went into limp mode. Felt like the truck got stuck in one gear and was dangerous to drive. I felt unsafe operating it even to limp back to the dealer. The incident with transmission happened at high speed on interstate 95. Kinda scary. They have told me they can't fix my truck for a minimum of 6-8 weeks, but I was told that would be a miracle. So service told me probably be 10-12 weeks if they can't get the parts. If they can!
I was driving down the highway on cruise control and all of the sudden i heard a squeal, banging noise with no power to accelerate so i pulled over to the side of the road and the engine said low oil pressure and shut down and would not restart. Multiple vehicles swerved to avoid hitting my vehicle creating a safety incident with possible injury and death. No symptoms prior to the failure and vehicle was maintained according to GMC specifications at the dealer with oil changes and tire rotations. Dealer has confirmed engine needs to be replaced but after several weeks they say they are unable to replace the engine because no parts are available and no estimated repair date. This is completely unacceptable and not a timely repair. I am without a truck and still paying for the loan of the truck with interest through GM financial.
I was with my two kids about to go on the highway as I accelerated at the speed of the 60 mph the truck completely shuts down I managed to move to the right shoulder my miraculously had to wait for a tow truck for 3 hours. Got truck towed to the dealership they told me it needed an engine and its back order took them 4 weeks to get ot done 2 days later check engine light came back on I was told only a misfire. I was without my truck for another 2 weeks. All this happened back in January of 2025
While driving on the interstate at approximately 80 mph the engine sounded like it started revving to its max and then it lost power and would not go anymore so I had to try and get to the side of the highway before the momentum stopped. There was no warning lights, indications, or recall notices that this was going to happen. And then had to wait about 2 hours for a tow truck on the side of the interstate. Then the dealership said my engine was seized up and they put a new motor in which took about 2 weeks and they wouldn't give me a loaner vehicle so my husband had to drive approx 3 hours to pick up me and my daughter. I no longer have my invoice that the dealership gave me after the repairs were performed. So after that I was leary of that happening again and traded the vehicle and took a huge loss in trade value not too long after the incident.
The contact owns a 2023 GMC Sierra 1500. The contact stated that upon starting the vehicle, there was an abnormal ticking sound coming from the engine. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact discovered that the VIN was included in NHTSA Campaign Number: 25V274000 (Engine, Engine and Engine Cooling); however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The local dealer was made aware of the issue and confirmed that parts were not yet available. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The failure. mileage was approximately 100. VIN tool confirms parts not available.

Multiple occasions where the dash lights up while driving, the vehicle will slow down to 40 miles per hour while driving and notes on the dash the truck acceleration will be reduced. It has almost caused accidents while I’ve been driving on the interstate. The truck will jerk and shake and jolt. Multiple sensors have been replaced including drive shaft, crank shaft components and cooling valve components. I’ve also been complained about burning smells and my engine started smoking recently which caused my family to evacuate the vehicle. I believe my vehicle has same issues as the other recall on GMC Sierra 2021-2024 with engine issues
Had an engine seizure with no warning. The event occurred on 03/22/2025. The vehicle has been in the dealership since then, with no line of sight to a replacement engine. The vehicle had barely over 15k miles. When the engine seized, it went to neutral, there was not power stirring and no breaks. I was fortunate that it was in a residential area, and my speed was below 30 miles an hour when it happened. The dealer is going to replace the motor when they get it, but it sounds like the engine is back ordered, as this exact issue has been happening to multiple vehicles. Like I said, there were no warning lamps, or messages; the engine just stopped working.
While driving the vehicle the vehicle stopped, and engine seized. I could not move the vehicle out of neutral nor restart the vehicle to get out of the road. It was towed to our local dealership's service department on 2/16/25 and has been there since. They are stating the vehicle needs a new engine and the engine is on backorder. OF COURSE! This seems to be an ongoing issue with the 6.2L V8 engine for GMC vehicles.
We were driving to dinner on March 28, 2025, when our 2023 GMC Sierra truck with just over 22,000 miles started making a clanking sound with major hesitation while trying to accelerate. At highway speeds, the truck lost nearly all power. We made it to the dealership, which was closer than home. Upon pulling in the parking lot, the truck died and we were unable to start it. The truck was actively losing power on the freeway and hesitating, we were fearful it would die on the freeway in 6 pm traffic. On March 29, 2025, we spoke with a service manager who said it sounded like the motor was blown. On April 2nd, Autonation GMC Corpus Christi South confirmed the oil pan was full of metal shavings and they were ordering a new motor. Upon asking for an estimation of how long we would be without our vehicle, the service advisor said he wasn’t taking it out of the bay and we should have it back by April 15. The check engine light did not come on until 1/4 mile from exiting the highway. On April 12, 2025, we texted the service advisor to make sure the truck would be ready on April 15, 2025. He responded that the motor still hadn’t come in and he would let us know when it did. On April 17, 2025, I escalated his from the service advisor to the service manager for Autonation. I was informed the motor had not been ordered, but he would order it and have the motor broken down to meet GM’s requirement. April 24, 2025, motor has been ordered, but no ETA or location of the motor.
GM needs to look at the excessive failures on their Engine Coolant Control Valve on the 3.0 Duramax Diesel engines. Mine failed at under 35K miles and it looks to be weeks or months before a part is available.
While my husband was driving on the NJ Turnpike at 65 mph, his truck just shut off!! . This was very dangerous, he had to try to get over from the left lane, all the way to the shoulder and park the truck. How has this not been taken care of yet? This needs to be looked into, he could have been in an accident. GMC is aware of this problem but has not recalled these trucks. Please make this known to the public, this is very dangerous!! To add insult to injury, we now are told that we have to pay to replace the engine and the truck is less than 2 years old. How is that right? The warranty is out (60k miles warranty) because my husbands drives a lot of highway miles (80k on truck) to and from work so they say it will cost us $9,000 dollars to replace. Since we still have payments on our truck, we have no choice but to get it repaired. Knowing this is an issue and it should be recalled, this is wrong! I am concerned this will happen again, if they replace it with the same engine. Please help!
On [XXX] I was traveling at highway speed south on [XXX] . I was driving my 2023 GM [XXX] The truck had 36,199 miles at the time of the incident. The engine is a 6.2 L EcoTec3 V8. While traveling at highway speed, without any warning, the engine shut down. The shift indicator displayed the vehicle being in neutral. When I tried to shift back into gear, a dashboard display stated "The current conditions are not suited for shifting." Fortunately I was able to coast onto the center median, off the traveled protion of the roadway without incident. I contacted the New Jersey State Police. They sent a tow operator to my location, and I was towed to Lester Glenn Buick-GMC in Tom's River, NJ The next day a representative from the service department informed me the vehicle suffered a catastrophic engine failure. The engine completely seized and the vehicle would need a complete engine replacement. The reason for the engine seizure has not been determined as of this time. While driving on a mountain highway pulling a light duty trailer coasting downhill, the truck went into Nuetral and lost all power. There was no warning lights or messages prior to failure. The display showed "Unable to shift under current conditions". Luckily I was in the right lane and had enough momentum to be able to coast into a breakdown lane on a slight grade with my trailer. The electronics still worked, but the engine would no longer turn over or shift into gear. Had the vehicle towed to the dealer I bought it from and the tech said the engine will need to be replaced. I was lucky this did not cause a catastrophic failure while driving at highway speeds and was able to bring the vehicle (and trailer) to a stop safely. There is already an open investigation against this problem on the NHTSA website, and the claims look very similar to my experience.
My 2023 GMC Sierra 1500 AT4X with 25,000 miles equipped with the 6.2L V8 engine, has experienced engine issues and total failure. Dave Sinclair a GM dealer in St. Louis Missouri indicated that bearing failure and lower lifter defects led to engine seizure, engine failure and block damage. This resulting in the need for a new/ replacement engine. I brought my GMC into Dave Sinclair service center on 2-11-2025 due to engine knocking and loss of power, then on [XXX] experienced complete engine failure and total breakdown on [XXX] resulting in traffic risks and issues. No warning lamps or messages. I routinely have the vehicle maintained at Dave Sinclair per their recommend mileage/time. As of 4-18-2025 I've not receive a replacement engine. Engine has seized twice, completely shutting down without electrical power or brakes. The vehicle also shut down in an intersection (no power, brakes, flashers). I was able to pull to the side on the 2 engine seizures but not during the electrical shutdown at the intersection in the turn lane. The engine was replaced the first time by Quality GMC in Albuquerque, NM. The 2nd engine is being replaced by Diamond GMC in Palmdale, CA. Warning lamps on the 1st engine seizure was tire pressure warning. The electrical shutdown was forward collision warning, emergency braking, etc. The 2nd engine seizure said something about engine needed to be restarted.
Engine failed and it is available for inspection upon request The engine started coasting down a major highway and it put myself and others on the road at risk. The dealer has confirmed that this 6.2 L engine has been giving the dealership problems with these GMCs. The vehicle has only been inspected by the Dealership. The Warning Message stated that I needed to restart the engine; however, you can't do that on a major highway due to pressing the break. The vehicle was already on; however, the engine was not connected. No other symptoms were happening prior to the incident. The engine trouble appears only at this incident.
Was going up a hill and all of the sudden the engine stopped, the truck coasted to the edge of the road. A message came on saying 'Press start to reset engine.' Doing so did nothing. The truck ended up having to be towed to a dealer. They were not able to turn the engine over by hand and ended up diagnosing the engine as a seized from a failed bearing. They ended up replacing the entire engine with a new identical one. They have not been able to tell me if the new engine is in the same engine group that I could experience the same thing a second time.
While towing my boat to the Florida Keys, I encountered a series of mechanical issues on Interstate 75. The engine’s exhaust became excessively loud, causing the engine to abruptly shut off. Despite successfully maneuvering into the safety lane, I was unable to restart the engine. I promptly contacted the dealership, which dispatched a tow truck to my location. However, the tow truck driver was unable to put the vehicle in neutral gear. Subsequently, I reached out to GMC, which informed me that the tow truck required a flatbed for transportation. I waited another two hours for a flatbed truck to tow the vehicle to the dealership. A few days later, I received notification that my engine had seized, necessitating an engine replacement. The dealership informed me that the 6.2-liter engine was experiencing a national backorder. I had purchased this used vehicle less than a month prior and had not yet made my initial payment. Consequently, I find myself without a vehicle. The dealership has been unable to provide an accurate timeline for the repair to be completed.
Complete engine failure while driving at highway speeds which put me and my family in dangerous risk of injury or death. The dealer confirmed the engine failure and needs engine replacement. The engine failed with no warning which only had 8700 miles.
4-5-25 Going 65 mph truck shut off for no reason. Dash message stated “press button to restart” I managed to pull over on side of road and place in park and restarted. Drove home and Chevy dealer service was closed. 4-7-25 Called in morning to get truck into service. 4-8-25 Service advisor called and stated No dash lights no codes . I explained that it was scary to have truck shutoff with no reason.i also stated that truck lurches and auto stop sounds wierd. Dealership Said tech was going to investigate further. I got a call next day 4-9-25 Service advisor said the main bearings bad and tech recreated problem and that motor was blown and need to order new from Michigan . Service advisor said he ordered engine and that it was known issue and covered under warranty. I asked how long he would have truck and he stated NO ETA. Truck engine seized during tech driving to reproduce my issue.
Turned onto highway. Got up to about 60 miles per hour. After a couple minutes the truck lost all power. Was pressing gas and noticed speed declining. Looked at dash and noticed rpm decreasing. All lights were off in the dash. I let the truck coast to the edge of the highway. Attempted to jump start and replace battery and nothing happened. Had it towed to a mechanic who said the motor was seized up.
My wife and I were traveling westbound on [XXX] just outside of Durkee Oregon, when while going up a hill with Cruse set to 72, the truck began to slow down drastically. When I looked down I was then going 60 and showing down fast. I was able to get to the side of the road and then the truck stopped, it shut off. At that point the truck has not be back on. It would not turn on and Onstar reported that there is an issue with the Engine and transmission. No warning lights came on until we stopped. Then the Engine light was on and the truck said that it was overheating but the oil temps were normal. I feel lucky that there was not much traffic. My wife and I were on the side of the road for 2 hours at dusk and in the dark with 65+ MPH traffic zooming by. Also had a impossible time tracking down a rental call just to continue to my wife's grandmother's funeral service. I was driving on the interstate when my vehicle’s display indicated that I needed to press start and that is when I noticed the engine was not running. I had to quickly pull over moving three car lanes all while coasting and I came to a stop. I tried multiple times to restart but the engine would not restart. I still had electrical power and turned on my hazard lights and called for a tow truck.

Driving at night on non-marked rural road at approximately 40 mph when the motor quit. I was going slight downslope and didn’t know until the Push button to start message came up. I coasted to a stop in the road and when push button to restart the lights went out and no movement of engine. Even though the lights came back on when button was pushed again nothing seemed to respond. Emergency flashers and radio did work. Transmission selector would not go to neutral to allow movement from the road. I called wrecker service and set in the truck for about a hour waiting and nervous about someone hitting me from behind as it was a dangerous spot just around a corner. The wrecker could not get the truck in neutral after several attempts ended up dragging the truck to get it loaded. Since I was within a mile from my home and it was midnight on Saturday I had him take it to my home. Monday I called Thompson GMC and wrecker came took it in to the dealership in Springfield MO. Tuesday 8:30 am I received a text from service saying that it was going to have to have a new motor as it was completely full of metal shavings. The replacement 6.2 engines were on backorder and they didn’t know when they could expect them. I was shocked as I had not had any trouble and really liked my truck to this point. I tried to get dealership to trade for another truck but they didn’t seem to want to wait for the engine either and would not give much for trade on a 18 month old truck. Obviously, this is a frustrating position as the truck is a huge part of my life. In the last few days I have found that GM has known of the problem for some time and they don’t have a remedy for me to recover my investment in their faulty product. I saw on internet where NHTSA had more than a 1000 complaints so I decided to add mine. You can bet that their are many many more that have been repaired before the motors went on backorder that are not reported. GM needs to step up NOW!
While driving my truck shut off and went into neutral. Truck restarted after cranking for a long time. Did the same thing within a mile and then started making knocking noises, turned off and would not restart. Completely dead on the road. Truck was towed to nearest dealership.
The motor quit while traveling on the highway. There were no warning signs. No noises, lights, smoke, smell, etc. It just quit. I was able to steer closer to the side of the road while it coasted to a stop, but it was difficult. After the vehicle coasted to a stop and it would not restart. The electronics appeared to work (radio, signals, lights) but found that they would not turn off. It has been confirmed that the engine has completely failed by the dealer. No traffic was affected, but it could have been.
While driving home from work, my engine, with only 20k miles on it, started to make noise. I immediately got off the highway at the next exit and as soon as I came to a stop the engine noise got even louder and the vehicle shut off. Was able to barely get it started but managed to get it off the road before it died again. Had it towed to my GMC dealership and have been advised that the engine is done and needs to be replaced. Seems to be a very common occurrence on GM vehicles with the 6.2 engine. Won’t have the truck back for minimum 6 weeks but still have to continue to make my $1000 payment for a truck with no working motor due to factory issues.
GM 6.2L Engine shifted itself into neutral and shut down while my wife was alone driving 65mph on [XXX] in Tucson Arizona. No error messages or check engine signal, Vehicle Information Center advised pull over and push Start Button. Vehicle would not initially restart but did start within 5 minutes and my wife was able to limp along the 1/4 mile to the next off ramp to get off the highway. I was driving my truck on I-65 around 75mph and the engine just shut down. I had to maneuver the vehicle out of traffic onto the side of the interstate. It would not restart. I had it towed to my dealership and they told I experienced total engine failure. It was caused by internal bearing failure
While driving on highway, during rush hour at [XXX], in the center lane of the highway the engine turned itself off and stopped running. Was traveling with traffic, approximately 70-75 mph, engine turned off the truck started deaccelerating rapidly. Was able to change to the right lane and pull over on to the side of the highway. Truck rolled roughly 100 yards and then stopped. The dashboard lights were on and gave the appearance the truck was running, but it was not. Could not restart the vehicle. I had my 6.2 engine replaced at 26,000 miles and the transmission rebuilt. The engine was contaminated with metal shavings and the transmission rebuilt for internal defects. Was driving down the interstate at 70mph with cruise control on. The vehicle lunged forward and soon after a reduce power message appeared in the messages. I was able to avoid any incident with other vehicles and exited the highway with the motor was making loud noises. I parked the vehicle and called for roadside assistance. The vehicle had to be towed to the dealer, and I found out that the 6.2 liter V8 motor has metal in the oil and the entire engine needed to be replaced. The thrust bearing failed and required a full engine replacement. The vehicle has approximately 21,000 on it and is still under warranty, but it is a 3-6 month wait to get a replacement engine. I have searched the internet and found that there are many vehicles that are having similar issues with the 6.2 L V8 GM motor. It has been slightly over a month since the incident and have not received any updates.
With out any warning the truck stop running at stoplight an would not start back up. We could not move the truck out of the road and blocked traffic for almost 1 hour waiting for the tow truck and getting it loaded on the tow truck (truck would not go in to neutral). The truck is now at the Dealer and they are saying that the engine seized up and will need replaced.
On Saturday March 1st I was driving East on I-10 in Florida when my trucks engine lost power. I managed to get over onto the shoulder of the road and got out of the flow of traffic. Very scared I was going to get hit before I could get off the interstate. Motor was making a terrible noise like the lifters let go. I was beside the interstate for about 3 hours trying to find a tow truck to come get me and the truck off the side of the interstate. I had the truck towed for about 60 mile to get it back home to the dealership. The truck has 26,000 miles on it and the dealership told me the motor was no good and that there is metal pieces in the oil pan. 2 weeks have past by and they can't tell me when they will receive a replacement motor. I own a 2023 GMC Sierra 1500 Denali Ultimate. The truck had about 19k miles on it when the engine seized while driving on the highway late at night in January. This was extremely dangerous as I was going 55mph over a bridge and lost the engine. I was stranded on an exit ramp unable to move. It was cold that week so it was 5 degrees. Onstar informed me that since the truck could not be shifted into Neutral that it would need dollies and a flat bed. They said they could get to me at 8am which was 9 hours from when the truck broke down. It was 5 degrees out and I had no heat sitting on the highway. I ended up calling a local tow company and they were able to get to me but I had to wait 3 hours. The truck was towed to the deal and they confirmed that the engine seized (it is a known problem) and it needs a new motor. They said there is a big back log of engines because many have this issue. I still have not provided a timeline for the truck to be repaired.
During travel of the highway, the motor suddenly lost power and shut down with no warning lights or symptoms prior. Although I was able to get to the side of the road, the electronic shifter does NOT allow the vehicle to be put into Neutral. This is a known GM issue. I left my house & was driving my truck down the highway for about 2.5 miles. All of a sudden the engine locked up & the battery went dead. I barely coasted off the opposite side of the road where the closest side road is & a semi pasted shortly after. I felt very lucky my truck made it off on the side road instead being run over by the semi truck. I then had to call a weaker & have it towed to the local dealership that services GMC trucks. After 4 days I finally got the worst news, the truck needs a new 6.2 engine. My 2023 GMC Sierra AT4 with 38k miles had an engine that locked up & I was flabbergasted. I started searching this issue on the internet & couldn’t believe how common this is & nothing has been done about this. I would assume a recall from GM would be appropriate considering the sheer number of 6.2 liters engines having issues over & over. This is absolutely unacceptable. I could have been seriously injured or even worse killed by the negligence of GM on this issue. I get it, GM made a mistake with this 6.2 engine and it’s going to cost a lot of money but my research tells me this appears to have been happening for a few years. As I sit here today my truck is sitting in a dealer lot with a busted engine & a new one is on backorder. I am currently driving a dealer “loaner” Chevy trailerblazer. It could be weeks or months before I finally get word on another 6.2 engine replacement from GM. I own a small farm and do not have a truck to haul hay or feed for horses. Can the National highway administration please help me? I thought I was buying a dependable 2023 GMC sierra 1500 AT4 & instead bought a lemon. Apparently hundreds of thousands of other 6.2 liter engines like mine are a HUGE safety hazard & should be recalled. This seems like an open & shut case & after reading into the matter I can’t believe Gov. organizations like the National Highway safety administration has not did more and let GMs 6.2 liter engine contine on. What’s left to investigate?
i was driving on the highway and the truck just shut off and rear wheel locked up almost caused me to wreck the truck. got truck pulled to side of the road finally after steering got real tight and very hard to steer to side of road. truck would not even try to start and engine warning light popped up on dash. i had to get truck towed for $243 to turner gmc in new holland, the dealership said it was a known issue since they had 2 trucks in their shop with the 6.2 L engines getting replaced. this was a very scary moment for me and now i have nothing to drive out money from towing and dealer told me it could be a few months before i get truck back. now i will have to pay for a truck that dont run at all.
On the highway, the engine suddenly stopped working. Everything turned black. While driving, the screen turned back on but the motor did not start again. I pressed the breaks and the start button to turn the engine back on, while still driving on the highway. It turned back on but then stopped again before I had time to pull to the side of the road. I had brought the car for service to the same dealership about a week prior to the incident. At that time, I told the dealer that the motor was making subtle weird noises. They serviced the car and gave it back to me stating that everything was ok and that nothing showed on their computer. When I picked up the car after the shutting off incident, I was told that their system showed prior issues but that nothing needed to be done since it was not detecting any problem at the time of pick up. About a week after I picked up my truck (after the shutting off issue was supposed to have been taken care of), I returned because I was still noticing the noise. While on a test drive with a GM mechanic, the motor suddenly started making very loud clicking and squeaking noises. He told me to stop right away. The manager at the dealership told me I would get a new motor because there was a recuring issue with the GM 6.2l. After a week, he said only some parts would be changed and that GM would not replace the whole motor. I told him I did not feel safe driving the truck and he said GM decides what to replace not me. I read online that the motor and all oil filters, ducts etc need to be replaced to avoid debris and future problems. No warning light ever went on. Terrifying experience.
purchased a 2023 GMC Denali, 1500 on January 12, 2025. after about a week,Started to hear knocking ticking noises took the truck to the dealership with 20,362 miles . dealership diagnosed that the lifters on the driver side went bad dealership replace driver side bank , picked up my truck drove it a little over 500 miles and still heard knocking ticking noises. Send it back to the dealership and dropped it off dealership told me they would keep me an update on it.Emailed called have absolutely no idea what’s going on with my truck. The dealership did mention of a possible engine replacement. But did not confirm after many attempts. Trying to attempt to contact the dealership emails phone calls still no answer. Called General Motors. They informed me the dealership ordered a new engine for replacement. That definitely worried me and I asked for a vehicle replacement or refund General motors, declined my request. Now I am not so confident in my truck what else could go wrong since the engine is going to be replaced? What about the transmission? Could it affect it? I don’t know> The damage was significant in order for the engine to be replaced you just don’t replace an engine just because, there was no light indications that something was going wrong with my truck. I’m glad I wasn’t driving far when I was hearing these noises coming from the engine because the engine could have seized left me stranded who knows could have crashed if the engine came to abrupt stop because of the engine failure. I purchased this truck January 12, 2025 . The total of time that I have had my truck since January 12 has been 15 days. today is February 6 on Friday, February 7. My truck has been in the shop literally 30 days exactly. Still no update on when it will be ready. This is so frustrating and such a big inconvenience.
At 9,100 miles my 2023 pickup truck experienced engine failure. It was inspected by dealership in the town where truck was purchased and it is determined that it will need a new engine due to "bearing failure". This occurred 2/24/25. No indicators or warning messages appeared.

The engine has blown for the 6.2L V8 Denali with 31,300 miles. I was told that this is happening on several of these engines. They told me it would be 3-4 months for repair as the engines are on backorder. I am not able to use a truck that I have purchased and am paying on.

Driving truck at highway speed and went to pass a group of slower vehicles on my right. I increased speed to 75 mph and the engine stopped and I had no acceleration. Engine would not shift into Neutral and would not restart. I coasted off to an exit ramp and the truck stopped in the middle of it blocking traffic for about an hour. Highway Patrol was on site to help direct traffic through the intersection of the off ramp and side road. We sat for approximately an hour before a tow truck could get us out of the intersection. The truck transmission was locked tight and the tow truck had to put the back wheel on skates to move it. I had to pay $175.00 to this tow truck company to move me approximately 200 yards to a local restaurant where we waited for the GMC provided tow service to arrive. GMC provided tow truck would only tow to nearest dealership which was in Weimer, TX. At the time of failure there was no warning. The truck just shut down making loud wining noises since the transmission was still in gear. This was an extremely stressful event and I was worried that someone was going to strike us at highway speed from the rear. Traffic was heavy that day on [XXX] heading [XXX] towards San Antonio and most left lane speeds were 75-80 mph and bumper to bumper traffic. The GMC Dealer in Weimer was very professional and inspected the engine on Dec 2nd notifying me that is was a total failure and would need to be replaced under warranty. The dealer had a new engine in hand within a few days and the truck was repaired with two weeks. I had a couple other issues with the OnStar system and the wireless after I picked up the truck and drive it home. I returned it to the dealer and proper parts were ordered to replace a bad control module that had failed during the engine failure. It took some additional time on my own after this was replaced to get my OnStar account back up and running correctly. This truck also had "tailgate drop" issues that the dealer fixed. 1) [XXX] - Was driving on the interstate at 65 - 70 mph when the truck suddenly shut off and shifted to neutral. I was in the far left lane and had to coast thru 2 lanes of high speed traffic to the right shoulder before the truck stopped coasting. Once I coasted to a stop on the right shoulder of the interstate, I tried to crank the truck up a couple of times and it finally cranked and I proceeded on to my destination. When I reached my destination and was attempting to park, the truck shut off again and would not crank after that. I then called roadside assistance to send a wrecker and take it to my local GMC dealer in Montgomery, Alabama. 2) My safety and others was put at risk when the truck, without warning, shut off and lost power while driving at 65-70 mph in heavy interstate traffic causing the truck to suddenly decrease speed and having to maneuver through traffic , without power, while coasting to the side of the road. 3) [XXX] - The service department at Mullinax GMC in Montgomery, Alabama called me about a week later to say the engine had "LOCKED UP" and that they had contacted GMC to begin the process of getting it fixed. They indicated that this was not uncommon with this model truck, and that it happens sometimes. 4) There were absolutely no warning lamps, messages, sounds or any other symptoms of the problem prior to the engine failure. I have a 2023 6.2L V8 GMC AT4. I have ~ 27,000 miles on the truck. On 2/1/2025, I was driving down the interstate going 78 mph and I lost all power to the truck. This was a MAJOR safety issue because I could only "coast" to a stop. I fortunately was able to get to the emergency lane and call a tow truck. I put others at risk because I had no choice but to move over. I had my truck towed to Brookfield Buick GMC dealership. Because I had no power, I had no HEAT. I sat for 1.5 hours before a tow truck could come to me. I was freezing because it was 20 degrees outside. The dealership told me that I had massive engine failure "seizure", which will require a NEW engine. I had no warning lamps or messages prior to the failure. This was a BIG safety issue and I'm fortunate I didn't get injured.
I started my truck on [XXX] and after driving less than 3 miles the check engine light came on and then light for traction control needs service came on. I stopped and notice engine was idling weird. So I called dealer and they recommended I bring in. I proceeded to drive but could not drive over 40 mph as the engine would not idle past that and started hearing clicking noises. I slowly get the vehicle into service at McKinney GMC Buick in McKinney, TX. Two days later I get a call stating that engine needs to be replaced due to bearing failure and excessive metal in oil and oil filter. Which damaged the engine and is not repairable. The service center informed that this is common with my 6.2 L V8 and there are four other trucks same issues. The engine is on back order and don't know when I will be able to get my vehicle back. This appears to be a known issue for GMC and they are not telling people who could be in danger on road at any moment without warning. Complete engine failure while driving on interstate. Vehicle went into neutral. After rolling to a stop on highway. Vehicle would not go into gear. Tow was unable to put vehicle into saftey mode and had to drag vehicle onto tow bed. At dealership techs were also unable to get vehicle to turn on or go into gear. Dealer advised the engine was complete seized. This happened while traveling on the highway there was no warning or signs of something being wrong. Vehicle simply lost all power and went into neutral while traveling 70mph with 37k on the odometer.

While driving on the interstate, my vehicle started losing speed. I pulled over to the shoulder of the interstate and put in neutral so I could coast further to the exit ramp where I would be in a safer location. My vehicle has 14037 miles on the odometer and has now gone through 2 engines. It has always been serviced by GM.
While idling, I noticed a knocking sound. Dealership found that rockers on both banks not rotating from lifter failure. Dealership replaced both lifter banks. Luckily this was caught early and was corrected for engine failure.

I was driving my 2023 GMC Sierra pickup (26,634 miles) while towing a trailer. I also had three of my children with me. I was in the fast lane doing approximately 65 miles per hour when the vehicle suddenly started to lose power. The Low Oil Pressure light came on the engine started to make a banging sound. Then the vehicle said to turn it off. We immediately started working our way across three lanes of very busy traffic to get to the side of the road. We were almost hit by several semi-trucks and barely made it to the side of the road as the engine turned off. We could not get the truck to start again. It also would not go into neutral. We were in a very dangerous position due to semi-trucks going by us at a very high rate of speed. I had to call a friend to come get my children because I was fearful, we were going to be hit. An officer luckily came by and assisted us. The engine was replaced with a remanufactured engine by the dealer. The technician who worked on the truck said that the bearings failed causing the engine to fail.
During a drive home from dinner, my truck engine completely turned off. I was driving around 25 mph at the time. Car when into neutral and I pulled to the side of the road. Tried to restart the truck, but couldn't not. I had to have the car towed to a dealer. Just got confirmation that my I need a new engine. Then I found that the NHTSA is investigating GMC for this very reason, so I thought I'd file a complaint. * My truck is currently at the dealership, so it is not available for inspection. * While I didn't feel my safety was at risk, If I was driving on a major highway, I may have felt differently. * Yes, problem has been confirmed by a dealership. * Vehicle has not been inspected by anyone other than the dealer. * The check engine light came on at the beginning of the drive, engine failed ~10 min later.
The truck has 12k miles on it and a week ago a bearing rod in the engine failed without warning. An engine should not have significant issues like this after only 12k miles of use. The truck is now with Williams Buick GMC in Charlotte, NC and waiting for a replacement engine.
My truck without warning the motor seized and stranded me in the side of a major route. This happened while driving 55mph and lost power and coasted to side of road.
I was driving my pickup to my farm. I was on a 4 lane divided highway, when i pulled into the left turning lane my pickup just randomly said "press Start/Stop button" so I stupidly did. The vehicle then shutoff or was already shutoff, I am not sure. There was no warning sign, dash lights, or weird engine noises. I would later learn the engine just blew up. The vehicle would not refire and I was forced to sit in the turning lane for 5 hours waiting for a tow truck. The highway was very busy and vehicles were buzzing past me constantly. Not a safe place to be at all! I could not get the vehicle into neutral or remove the parking brake. Multiple highway patrol officers stopped to help me and try to get the vehicle into neutral so we could pull it off the side of the highway to no avail. I crawled underneath the vehicle and disconnected the drive shaft, but then had no way of removing the parking brake. After many hours of waiting a tow truck showed up and my 1 year old pickup was drug onto it skidding the rear tires. The engine had around 12,000 miles. The vehicle went to a GM dealership for 4 weeks and got a new engine installed.
On [XXX], in the middle of a 600 mile road trip from Idaho to Southern Nevada, the engine failed in our 2023 GMC Sierra with just 23,060 miles on the odometer. We stopped for fuel and upon restarting the engine to continue on our trip, the engine was making a harsh metal on metal knocking. We called for a tow instead of driving further. The truck was towed 242 miles to the nearest dealership (GM Roadside refused to do the tow since it was 42 miles outside of their limit) by our AAA membership. The dealership in Las Vegas took 5-1/2 weeks to look at the truck to determine what had failed. They pulled the oil pan and found that the rod bearings for the #1 and #2 rods had failed. If we had continued on, the rods would have seized and would have lost power to the brakes and steering. It's been nearly three months now, and we have no resolution from GM. They have agreed to a "repurchase" on the truck, but we have not been able to get any details on the buy-back for over three weeks. We are still waiting. Going down beltway at 80mph on November 18 2024 the vehicle lost engine power. I had to drift vehicle across 3 lanes to shoulder and called tow truck to take to dealership. The dealership informed me that the engine had went bad and needed to be replaced. The vehicle had 63k miles on it and was out of warranty and they want me to pay 4k to replace.
THERE WAS NOISE IN THE ENGINE AREA AND AFTER TRUCK STALLED
I was driving along the freeway with my family of five. There were no warning lamps. There was an odd noise for about 10 seconds, and then the engine completely seized/locked up. I lost all ability to use the engine. I was able to come across three lanes of traffic, thankfully, without hitting anything without the ability to accelerate. GMC dealership inspected the car the next day. The engine is completely seized up. They are replacing the entire engine, but it has been a month without my car. They still do not have the parts available. We are fortunate. There were no other cars around us and I was able to steer to the Berm Across three lanes. This could’ve caused a catastrophic accident for my family.
Truck acted like it would not start several times in a day. Had battery replaced and it still did not fix the issue. Was told by dealership I would need to bring in and let them look at it. Was going to delearship and noticed a llight knocking in my engine then all of a sudden lost power. Was able to coast out of traffic and onto a curb. Truck would not start or even try, yet every light and such still worked. Had taken to dealership and this morning was told it was the engine.
While I was driving, the dash screen read "Press start button" and suddenly the vehicle loss engine power and I had to veer to the far right lane. Luckily the cars around me swerved away. I had initially called OnStar, but when the police arrived they told me I couldn't wait for Onstar as I was impeding traffic so they called a local tow truck and they towed it to my house. From my house, OnStar towed it to the GMC dealership. The dealership stated the engine has locked up and needs a whole new engine replacement.
While driving along [XXX] in northern Arkansas the on [XXX] my 2023 GMC Sierra Denali's 6.2 engine suddenly locked up causing us to pull on to the shoulder of the road - nearly causing an accident. The vehicle had 23000 miles on it at the time. We were towing a two horse trailer with one horse aboard. At our expense, we had the vehicle and trailer towed back to St. Louis, MO then to O'Fallon Buick GMC. The dealer replaced the entire engine under warranty with a used rebuilt engine. They have omitted the engine replacement from the vehicle history report in CARFAX. The dealer had handled a number of 6.2 engine failures prior to this one. While driving at about 70 mph, the screens in the vehicle went black and the truck had a complete loss of power. The vehicle inadvertently braked to approximately 30 mph and went into limp mode. The check engine warning light came on and the service power steering warning light, the service transmission warning light, the low tire pressure warning light, and the traction control warning light all illuminated. There were also messages displayed on the instrument panel to Service 4-WD and Reduce Acceleration and Drive with Care.”
I was driving on a rural and narrow 2 lane road with next to no shoulder when my engine started losing power. There were no check engine lights or other indicators of failure until the final 2 seconds. At that point, a message popped up on the dash stating something along the lines that my engine oil was too hot and to idle the engine. 2 seconds later, at 50mph my engine died. That is scary enough, but I was also towing a 5,000lb+ trailer, it was -3F, heavy winds, and I had my 2 dogs with me. Thankfully, I kept my wits about me, remained calm, and made it to the side of the road. As mentioned, there was not much shoulder so this put me in great danger of being hit by careless drivers speeding by. The nearest police officer was an hour away, so I was in quite a predicament. Had this happened to most other people, the narrative would have ended much differently. Come to find out, this is a common issue with these 6.2l engines. So much so, that there is a backorder on the engines due to the high replacement demand. This poses extreme danger not only "in the moment" of failure, but also the environmental dangers/risks users are potentially exposed to, just as I was. This needs to be a recall as this is a substantial and immediate safety issue in my opinion.

The contact used a scanner to scan the vehicle and retrieved diagnostic trouble codes. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and a case was opened. The manufacturer later informed the contact that they could not assist because the dealer stated that the failure could not be replicated. The failure mileage was unknown.
Coolant control valve malfunction Vehicle placed into limp mode while driving with no way to reset. Vehicle taken to dealer and issued verified with part ordered. Multiple dash warning lights and several different limp modes activated prior to vehicle needing to be stopped

Vehicle has been at dealership for a month and showing symptoms sporadically since the first few thousand miles getting increasingly worse over time. Reduced acceleration caus d many unsafe incidences when on the highway.
Coolant control valve failure. The 3.0 Duramax Diesel engine coolant control valve is known for failure. The part is not available and it has no availability time frame from GM. Vehicle goes into reduced acceleration mode hindering driver from being able yo accelerate safely in traffic.

While driving my 2023 GMC Sierra 1500 Denali, 6.2-liter engine on the highway, the engine seized at 22,000 miles. GMC has been working on my truck since 9/7/24 and still no truck. The end state is, I was told by the Service Department that there is a design flaw with the 6.2-liter engine (something with the intakes valves being too large, resulting in the valve bending seizing the engine). I was also told, this dealer had two other trucks there now with the same seized engine. Their plan is to install a new engine with the same design flaw with the hopes it does not happen again. This was an extremely unsafe condition as I was travelling at 65 miles per hour on the highway when the engine seized, luckily, I was able to coast to a large shoulder after almost getting into an accident when it seized going uphill.
Engine goes to limp mode multiple times 3 of which happened getting onto the highway and almost creating an accident due to the reduced acceleration mode. CODe u0656 00 popped up each time. Dealer has yet to rectify due to lack of appointments… making me keep the vehicle saying it’s drivable but each time randomly goes into the reduced acceleration mode every restart. In late February/early March, my GMC Sierra with around 9000 miles had the following to occur on a cold start: check engine light came on as well as the service esc light & traction control light, truck shuddered and shimmied. Took for service on March 4, 2024 with 9774 miles on odometer, where service tech said they couldn't duplicate concern (see attachments: March Service Invoice Pg 1 & 2). Took truck home & same issues kept occurring especially on cold mornings & days. Took the truck back for service on April 1, 2024 with 10895 miles on odometer. Told them to keep it till its fixed & to start it on cold mornings because thats when problem occurs. They had truck till April 12, 2024 and were able to duplicate the concern. Dealer changed the fuel injector (that was not the problem). Service tech finally found the cylinder 8 has a misfire until vehicle gets to operating temperature. They replaced all 8 lifters in bank 2 (right side) & gave me an oil change. This seems to have fixed the problem, but I won't really know until winter 2025. My problem with this lifter issue is that this engine will probably only last for 3 maybe 4 years tops because of all the metal shavings that are roaming around in the engine. This has been a problem with GM engines for some time & GM has yet to fix it or at least take responsibility for their poor engineering. I paid over $70,000 (of which GM made around $17,000) for this truck only to have the engine probably make it for a few years. My last truck I kept for 10 years. I don't see this happening with this truck.
The transmission failed as I as was turning on to a highway. It seemed like it was rapidly shifting between two gears, but I could not accelerate for several seconds and had to immediately pull over into the ditch to avoid a high speed collision. I took it to the shop the next day. The transmission valve body failed, which appears to be a common issue as I've researched incidents like this online. The part was on backorder. Once it arrived at the dealership, the replacement valve body immediately failed again. Now a 3rd valve body is on backorder with no ETA. I've been without my truck for over a month now with no end in site, and I do not have confidence that a 3rd replacement is going to provide a proper and long lasting fix.

RADIO SCREEN HALF OF SCREEN SHUTS OFF. FRONT CRASH SENSORS GO OFF WITH NOTING IN FRONT OF VEHICLE...LOSS OF CAMERAS NO CONNECTION. SOUNDS LIKE A BUG ZAPPER UNDER TRUCK. GM HAS REPROGRAMMED TRUCK NOW 3 TIMES SENT A TECH FROM FACTORY...REPLACED RADIO REPROGRAMMED ALL COMPUTERS AGAIN!! TRUCK HAS BEEN IN THE SHOP THIS TIME FOR OVER 30 DAYS WITH 6200 MILES ON IT THIS IS THE 4TH TIME SINCE I BOUGHT IN JUNE. HAVE A CASE REPRESENTATIVE FROM GM WHO WILL NOT HELP WITH ISSUES JUST KEEPS PUTTING ME OFF. HAVE VIDEOS PICTURES OF ALL THE ISSUES AND HAVE GIVEN TO DEALER AND GM

At just 600 miles, the 2023 GMC Sierra 3.0 Duramax gave out a check engine light. The code reader displayed a P0402. The truck had a very strong fume odor. The truck was taken to service two times. GM engineering made tests on the truck and concluded that the truck needs to be reprogrammed. I have a case number established with GM (case number 9-9217617941). If the program is bad, why release the product to the public? See attached invoice for details. This issue is present on almost all LZ0 GMC trucks based on people I've met in forums. Please help us.
