The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 25V27400 (Engine and Engine Cooling); however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The local dealer was contacted and initially confirmed that parts were not yet available. The contact received notification that the parts for the recall repair were available. Upon arrival to the dealer, the contact was informed that the recall repair would be an oil change with thicker, higher viscosity oil. The contact expressed concerns that the failure might occur because the engine was not replaced. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. The contact had not experienced a failure.

The contact owns a 2023 GMC Sierra 1500. The contact stated while driving at various speeds, the vehicle experienced a loss of motive power. The contact shifted to neutral(N) and was able to restart the vehicle. Additionally, the contact stated that while driving 55 MPH and pulling an unloaded trailer, the vehicle suddenly stalled. A message advising the contact to shift to neutral(N) and to attempt to start the vehicle was displayed; however, the vehicle failed to restart as intended. The contact was still able to use the power brakes and the power steering, which allowed the contact to pull over in a safe area. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the presence of copper filings in the oil had caused the engine to run roughly.
