THE INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER GAUGES DON'T ALWAYS WORK. WE WERE ON FREEWAY WHEN WE NOTICED SPEEDOMETER HAD FAILED AS WELL AS FUEL GAUGE , TEMP GAUGE ALL GAUGES INOPERATIVE. THIS IS THIRD TIME CLUSTER PANEL IS BEING REPLACED; FIRST TWO UNDER WARRANTY THIRD TIME WE HAD TO PAY $204.

LOUD NOISE FROM ENGINE SERVICE TECHNICIAN REPORTED THE EXHAUST MANIFOLD BOLTS HAS BROKEN TO CALL A WHITE SMOKE FROM THE MOTOR. EVERYTHING HAPPENED WITH CONSIDER TO BE LOW MILEAGE IN TALKING TO GM THEY DON'T CARE BECAUSE ENOUGH REPORT HAS NOT BEEN MADE.

SINCE OWNING THE TRUCK, WHICH IS NOT VERY LONG, I HAVE HAD THE POWER SEATS READJUST THEMSELVES, BY THEM SELVES, AND IT FELT LIKE IT WAS CRUSHING ME. MY TRUCK IS A WORK TRUCK DRIVEN BY AN EMPLOYEE, I HAVE JUST RECENTLY BECOME AWARE OF A CONDITION REGARDING THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER, WHEREIN THE WHOLE PANEL DOES NOT WORK, I WAS ADVISED BY THE EMPLOYEE THAT THIS HAPPENED QUITE SOME TIME AGO, BUT WAS NEVER MADE AWARE. I CONTACTED GMC BUT APPARENTLY, BECAUSE THIS IS CONSIDERED A SPECIAL POLICY RECALL (ONLY IF SOMEONE COMPLAINS - AND WITHIN A SPECIFIED TIME PERIOD 7 YRS OR 80,000 MILES) THEY WILL NOT REPAIR THIS DEFECT. I NEVER RECEIVED A NOTICE, NOR WAS I AWARE OF THE PROBLEM WITHIN THAT TIME PERIOD. I WAS FURTHER INFORMED BY MY WORKER THAT AT THE TIME THE PANEL WENT OUT, THE FAN FOR THE HEATER/AIR CONDITION UNIT APPEARED TO SMOKE AND NOW IT DOES NOT WORK. HERE AGAIN, I HAVE NOT RECEIVED ANY RECALL NOTICES FOR THIS DEFECT EITHER. FINALLY, IN MY ATTEMPTS TO GET THE CLUSTER REPAIRED, I HAVE BEEN INFORMED THAT THERE IS A RECALL ON THE HYDRO BOOST ACCUMULATOR... I HAVE NOT ONCE RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE ON THIS VEHICLE AND I PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE NEW. MY VEHICLE HAS 101,000 MILES ON IT. YOU WOULD THINK THAT A VEHICLE OF THIS NATURE WOULD LAST LONGER THAN 100,000. BUT APPARENTLY NOT... RECEIVED A CONDITIONAL LETTER FROM GM STATING THAT MY VEHICLE MY EXPERIENCE A CONDITION RESULTING FROM CORROSION THAT MAY EFFECT THE RELAY RESISTOR MODULE AND WIRE CONNECTOR FOR THE HEATER/HVAC FAN MOTOR. THE LETTER STATES THAT THE WIRE AND/OR RESISTOR COULD OVERHEAT. THIS MAY BE ACCOMPANIED BY A BURNING SMELL OR SMOKE. I HAVE FIRST HAND KNOWLEDGE THAT A CO-WORKERS TRUCK CAUGHT FIRE ON JULY 26, 2011 DO TO THIS SPECIFIC PROBLEM. SEVERAL PEOPLE HAVE COMPLAINED VIA THE INTERNET ABOUT FIRE DAMAGE FROM THIS CONDITION. I HAVE TALKED TO GENERAL MOTORS ABOUT THIS ISSUE AND THEY FAILED TO REACT. MY CO-WORKER DID NOT HAVE ANY SYMPTOMS PRIOR TO HIS VEHICLE CATCHING FIRE UNDER HIS DASH THAT TOTALED HIS TRUCK. I AM CONCERNED THAT MY TRUCK WILL CATCH FIRE WITHOUT NOTICE AND AS A RESULT POTENTIALLY BURN DOWN MY HOUSE. WHENEVER SOMEONE DESCRIBES A SYMPTOM AS A BURNING SMELL OR SMOKE IT IS POTENTIALLY TO LATE TO FIX THE ISSUE AND COULD CAUSE BODILY HARM OR DEATH. *KB
THE SPEEDOMETER UNEXPECTEDLY STOPPED WORKING ON MY 2004 GMC SIERRA 2500 HD AS I WAS DRIVING DOWN I-4. IT WAS REGISTERING 65MPH ONE MINUTE, THEN THE NEXT 0 MPH. THIS ORIGINALLY HAPPENED APPROXIMATELY 1 1/2 YEARS AGO. I CONTACTED MY DEALER WHERE I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE. T THAT TIME, I HAD APPROXIMATELY 69000 MILES ON THE VEHICLE. HE TOLD ME TO TRY AND RESTARTING IT AND IT SHOULD START WORKING RIGHT AGAIN. WHICH IT DID. IT HAS CONTINUED TO ACT UP SINCE AND IS BECOMING MORE FREQUENT. THE DEALER NOW TELLS ME THAT ITS IS THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER AND NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. THIS IS A HAZARD AS WHEN IT STOPS WORKING, I HAVE KNOW IDEA AS TO MY SPEED. IT IS MY UNDERSTANDING THAT THIS IS A KNOW PROBLEM BY GM AND THEY OFFERED A EXTENDED FIX OPTION, BUT DID NOT NOTIFY GM OWNERS OF THIS HAZARD. *TR

SOME MONTHS BACK THE GAS GAUGE STATED SHOWING GAS READINGS WAY BEYOND FULL.IT WOULD STAY THAT WAY FOR SOME TIME BEFORE GOING BACK TO NORMAL THAN IT WOULD FAIL AGAIN. LAST WEEK THE SPEEDOMETER GAUGE WENT BEYOND THE 120 MILE READING AND CONTINUES TO SHOW HIGH SPEEDS -EVEN WHEN IM PARKED. THE OIL PRESSURE GAUGE ALSO MALFUNCTIONED. THE CONTACT PREVIOUSLY REPLACED BOTH DRIVER AND PASSENGER SIDE CARRIER BEARINGS THAT ARE ASSOCIATED WITH THE FOUR WHEEL DRIVE. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO ELEVATE THE VEHICLE AND MOVE THE WHEEL ABOUT A HALF INCH IN BOTH DIRECTIONS. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN INSPECTED WHEN THE COMPLAINT WAS FILED. THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER BUT WAS OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE CONTACT CONFIRMED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS A 2005 MODEL PRODUCED IN 2004; HOWEVER, THE VIN DISPLAYED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS A 2004. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 150,000. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 70,000.

THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED FOR THE MALFUNCTION. THERE WAS A RECALL ON THE 2006-2009 GMC SIERRA MODELS, THE NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER WAS 10V24000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM). THE CONTACT EXPERIENCED THE IDENTICAL FAILURES AS MENTIONED IN THE RECALL DEFECT. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 60,000.

WE THOUGHT WE WERE ENTERING THE FREEWAY AT 60, WHILE IN FACT WE WERE GOING 20. WE ALMOST GOT RAMMED BY A TRUCK. IT IS ILLEGAL TO GO 20 ON AN INTERSTATE. THIS REQUIRED SPEEDOMETER CLUSTER REPLACEMENT COSTING $529. GM REFUSED ANY COVERAGE OF THE COST. I SUGGESTED THEY COVER HALF THE CLUSTER PART, $175. THEIR CUSTOMER SERVICE SAID, "NO." IF THERE IS A SAFETY ISSUE, THIS WOULD BE IT! I UNDERSTAND THERE ARE SEVERAL LAWSUITS REGARDING THESE SPEEDOMETERS. OUR VIN IS ON THEIR "SILENT RECALL" LIST. NATIONAL HIGHWAY SAFETY TRAFFIC ADMINISTRATION SHOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR ISSUING OPEN ENDED RECALLS FOR SAFETY ITEMS SUCH AS THESE. THE MISSION IS TO PROTECT THE PUBLIC? *TR

HE LOST ALL ELECTRICAL CIRCUITS, POWER STEERING AND BRAKES. AFTER 45 MINUTES, THE VEHICLE RESTARTED. THE NEXT DAY, THE CONSUMER TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER, WHERE THE MECHANIC FOUND LOOSE PINS ON THE WIRING HARNESS CONNECTORS AT C107 AND C108. THE MECHANIC STATED HE DIDN'T BELIEVE THAT WAS THE CAUSE OF THE VEHICLE STALLING, BUT THEY WERE LOOSE. SINCE, THE FIRST FAILURE, THERE HAVE BEEN 10 MORE FAILURES. THE CONSUMER TOOK THE VEHICLE TO ANOTHER DEALER WHERE IT HAS BEEN SINCE JULY 2, 2009 WITHOUT A SPECIFIC CAUSE BEING FOUND.*JB

VEHICLE DIES FROM TIME TO TIME, AND WILL NOT START FROM 10 TO 45 MINUTES LATER AFTER THE ENGINE DIES. WHEN THIS HAPPENS THERE IS NO ELECTRICAL TO ANY OF THE STARTING CIRCUITS. THE FIRST FAILURE HAPPENED ON AN INTERSTATE HIGHWAY, SPEED SET AT 70 MPH, IN LEFT LANE. POWER STEERING LOST, POWER BRAKING LOST CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE WAS CRITICAL, MEDIAN WAS WOODED SO HAD TO STEER DEAD VEHICLE TO RIGHT LANE AND OFF HIGHWAY. THIS CONDITION HAS HAPPENED 11 TIMES AND THE LAST TWO WERE IN TRAFFIC, WITH THE NEXT TO LAST BEING IN A CURVE ON A 4 LANE UNDIVIDED STATE HIGHWAY AND COMING WITHIN INCHES OF A REAR END COLLISION. THE VEHICLE WAS FOUND TO HAVE LOOSE PINS AT CONNECTOR, BUT THE MECHANIC SAID HE WAS UNSURE THAT THIS WAS THE PROBLEM, THIS WAS AT THE FIRST FAILURE IN 2004. THE LAST TIME IT DIED WAS IN HEAVY TRAFFIC ON DALLAS NORTH TOLLWAY, RESULTING IN DODGING TRAFFIC. THIS VEHICLE IS CURRENTLY IN A LOCAL GM DEALERSHIP REPAIR SHOP AND HAS BEEN THERE FOR CLOSE TO ONE MONTH, WITH NO SURE CAUSE OF FAILURE. GM CUSTOMER ASSISTANCE CENTER SAID THAT THIS WAS THE ONLY GMC K2500 IN THE WORLD WITH THIS REPORTED PROBLEM. THIS VEHICLE FAILS AT VARIOUS TIMES AND DATES. BEGINNING ON 05/09/04 TO 06/28/09 AND WAS PLACED IN THE REPAIR SHOP ON 07/02/09 THIS VEHICLE IS UNSAFE DUE TO LOSS OF ALL POWER ASSIST AND DIFFICULT TO BRAKE AND STEER DURING THIS CONDITION. I HAD RECEIVED NOTICE THAT THEY WOULD REPAIR BUT NOW HAVE TO MANY MILES ON THE VEHICLE. THE CAP ON MILEAGE IS APPROXIMATELY 70K. BOTH MY FATHER AND BROTHER HAVE 2004 CHEVY SILVERADOS 2500HD AND THEY BOTH RECEIVED A LETTER SAYING THAT THERE IS A DEFECT IN THE GAUGE CLUSTER AND BOTH OF THEM HAD THEIR SPEEDOMETERS GO BAD AND CHEVY FIXED THEM. OF COURSE MINE ALSO GOES BAD AND WHEN I TAKE IT TO A GMC DEALER THEY SAY THERE IS NO RECALL OR DEFECT KNOWN AND WILL NOT FIX THE PROBLEM AND NOW I AM DRIVING WITHOUT A WORKING SPEEDOMETER WHEN GMC SHOULD FIX THE DEFECT IN MINE. I KNEW THE CLUSTER MUST HAVE BEEN GOING OUT SOON BECAUSE A MONTH PRIOR THE CLUSTER WOULD RANDOMLY RESET MY TOTAL ENGINE HOURS SO NOW I WILL NEVER EVEN KNOW HOW MANY ENGINE HOURS ON MY TRUCK EVEN WHEN I DO GET IT FIXED. INSTRUMENT CLUSTER MALFUNCTION. TO THE BEST OF MY KNOWLEDGE THE ONLY GAUGES WORKING PROPERLY ARE THE TACHOMETER AND FUEL GAUGE. IT BEGAN WITH INTERMITTENT SPEEDOMETER MALFUNCTION. TOOK IT IN AS WARRANTY WORK BUT THE SERVICE DEPT. COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE ISSUE. AFTER THE WARRANTY EXPIRED THE ISSUE RESURFACED. I ASKED ABOUT ANY RECALLS OR COMPLAINTS REGARDING THE CLUSTER GAUGES MALFUNCTIONING AT EVERY VISIT FOR SERVICE. NO RECALLS OR COMPLAINTS RECEIVED ACCORDING TO THEM. DID SOME RESEARCH ON THE SUBJECT. FOUND A FEW SIMILAR COMPLAINTS IN BLOGS BUT NO ACTION FROM GM. THE PROBLEM BEGAN TO CASCADE AND SOON ALL GAUGES EXCEPT FOR THE TACH AND FUEL BEGAN TO FAIL. NOT FIX AS OF YET. GM HAS A NOTICE OUT ON IT BUT REFUSES TO REPAIR MY TRUCK DUE TO HAVING TOO MANY MILES. THEY EVEN FOUND DOCUMENTATION AT THE DEALERSHIP SERVICE DEPT. FOR THE ORIGINAL SPEEDOMETER MALFUNCTION BUT THEY STATE IT WASN'T A STRONG ENOUGH COMPLAINT. *TR

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 GMC SIERRA 2500. THE CONTACT WAS WARMING UP HIS VEHICLE WITH A PORTABLE COMPRESSOR HOOKED UP TO THE AUXILIARY POWER IN THE CENTER OF THE DASHBOARD TO INFLATE A TIRE. HE NOTICED SMOKE NEAR THE WINDSHIELD ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE. THE CONTACT UNPLUGGED THE COMPRESSOR, SHUT OFF THE VEHICLE, OPENED THE HOOD, AND DISCONNECTED THE BATTERY. THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE, UNDERNEATH THE DASHBOARD AND THE CABIN WERE ENGULFED IN FLAMES. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT EXTINGUISHED THE FIRE. THERE WERE NO INJURIES. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. EVEN THOUGH THEY ADMIT TO A FAILURE OF THE SYSTEM, SINCE I CANNOT PROVE IT HAPPENED WITHIN THE 70K MILEAGE THEY ARE REFUSING TO REPLACE IT. THIS IS A TREMENDOUS HAZARD AND IS VERY COSTLY TO REPLACE. I OWN A 2004 GMC SIERRA 2500 CREW CAB PICKUP WITH 59,000 MILES. IN THE LAST 4 MONTHS THE SPEEDOMETER HAS BEEN GIVING INCORRECT READINGS, I.E. 70 MPH WHEN STOPPED, 115 WHEN DOING 40 MPH ETC. ON OCCASION, IT EITHER DOESN'T WORK AT ALL, OR THE NEEDLE IS FULLY PEGGED. THERE IS NO WAY TO TELL HOW FAST THIS VEHICLE IS GOING. GMC CUSTOMER SERVICE HAS STATED THAT THEY CAN PROVIDE NO FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE FOR THE $320 REPAIR BECAUSE "THEY CANNOT MAKE A BUSINESS CASE FOR IT." GMC REFUSES TO ACKNOWLEDGE THAT THIS IS A PERVASIVE PROBLEM THROUGHOUT MANY OF THEIR VEHICLES IN THIS MODEL YEAR DESPITE AMPLE DOCUMENTATION OF THE PROBLEM EASILY FOUND AT AUTO REPAIR WEBSITES ON THE INTERNET.
