TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 GMC SIERRA 3500. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 40 MPH, THE BRAKES WERE ENGAGED AND THE VEHICLE FAILED TO STOP. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT HE HAD TO ENGAGE THE EMERGENCY BRAKE IN ORDER FOR THE VEHICLE TO STOP. ALSO, THE CONTACT STATED THAT AFTER INSPECTING THE VEHICLE HE NOTICED OIL LEAKING. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE BRAKE LINES NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE WHO DID NOT OFFER ANY ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 42,000. UPDATED 10/24/12 *CN UPDATED 11/08/12

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 GMC SIERRA 2500 HD. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE POWER STEERING WOULD SEIZE AND THE VEHICLE WOULD HESITATE TO STOP WHEN THE BRAKES WERE DEPRESSED. IN ADDITION, THE TRANSMISSION, WINDSHIELD WIPERS, CRUISE CONTROL, AND THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO REPLACED THE TRANSMISSION, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURES, BUT DENIED ANY ASSISTANCE WITH REPAIRS TO THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT FURTHER REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 29 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 100,000.

FRAME AND CROSS MEMBERS AS WELL AS CONTROL ARMS ARE ALL RUSTED. MADE COMPLAINT WITH GMC THEY HAD ME BRING TO A DEALER TO TELL ME THIS IS NORMAL RUSTING. TWO OF MY RELATIVES HAVE THE SAME YEAR TRUCK BUT ARE NOT EXPERIENCING THIS ISSUE AND WE ALL LIVE IN THE SAME AREA DRIVE SAME ROADS. *KB

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 GMC SIERRA 2500 HD DIESEL. THE CONTACT STATED THAT ON APRIL 19, 2010 WHEN PULLING OUT OF THE GARAGE AT 2 MPH, THE BRAKES AND STEERING SUDDENLY STOPPED FUNCTION. THERE WERE NO WARNING LIGHTS ILLUMINATED THAT INDICATED THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. WHEN THE CONTACT TURNED OFF THE VEHICLE AND RESTARTED IT, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY ACCELERATED. THE CONTACT DEPRESSED THE EMERGENCY BRAKE PEDAL AND THE VEHICLE STOPPED; IT WAS TOWED TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALERSHIP WHERE IT WAS BEING REPAIRED AT THE TIME OF THE COMPLAINT. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT HIS VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN ANY RELATED RECALLS. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE APPROXIMATELY 38,000. EXTRA EFFORT WAS REQUIRED TO STOP WHICH INCREASED THE STOPPING DISTANCE. THE ABS FUSE WAS REMOVED BASED ON ADVICE BY A MECHANIC. AFTER REMOVAL OF THE FUSE, THE PROBLEM STOPPED; WHEN THE FUSE WAS REINSTALLED, THE PROBLEM RETURNED. THE VEHICLE WAS TKANE TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALERSHIP WHO INFORMED HIM THAT THE BRAKES WERE FUNCTIONING NORMALLY. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE AT THE TIME OF THE COMPLAINT.

FOR ALMOST A YEAR NOW THE BRAKES "DROP OUT" OR ESSENTIALLY QUIT SLOWING THE TRUCK BELOW 10 MPH. EXTRA EFFORT IS REQUIRED TO STOP. THIS HAS CAUSED NUMEROUS NEAR MISS REAR END COLLISIONS. WHEN TOWING AN 8000 POUND TRAILER THIS IS A SIGNIFICANT SAFETY HAZARD. I REMOVED THE ABS BRAKE FUSE ON THE ADVICE OF A TECH AND THE PROBLEM STOPPED IMMEDIATELY. WITH THE FUSE REINSTALLED THE PROBLEM RETURNS. *TR

2005 GMC SIERRA K2500 PICKUP TRUCK. PROBLEM - BRAKES FADE WHEN COMING TO A COMPLETE STOP. BRAKES WORK FINE UNTIL VEHICLE SLOWS TO 5-10MPH AT WHICH TIME BRAKE PEDAL LOSES PRESSURE - UNEXPECTEDLY INCREASES STOPPING DISTANCE BY 10-15 FEET CREATING HAZARDOUS CONDITION. ATTEMPTED RESOLUTION - REPLACED ALL FOUR BRAKE ROTORS AND PADS AT OWN EXPENSE. PROBLEM STILL EXISTS. WENT TO DEALERAND DISCOVERED THAT THIS IS APPARENTLY A COMMON PROBLEM RELATED TO THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SENSORS LOCATED IN EACH WHEEL ASSEMBLY. THEY CLAIM THIS BRAKING SYSTEM FAILURE IS DUE TO NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR AND NOT A MANUFACTURERS DEFECT OR FAULTY DESIGN... MY PROBLEM IS THIS - IF THE DEALER (AND, BY EXTENSION, THE MANUFACTURER) KNOWS THAT THE BRAKE SYSTEM IS GOING TO START FAILING AFTER A FEW YEARS OF OPERATION, THEN HOW IS THIS DUE TO NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR AND NOT A DESIGN DEFECT??? THIS IS CLEARLY AN EXAMPLE OF A MANUFACTURER PUTTING OUT A PRODUCT THAT THEY KNOW WILL FAIL IN TIME AND, THUS, CREATE A HAZARDOUS SAFETY CONDITION. *TR

DEALER THEN REPLACED THE STEERING GEAR WITH NO CORRECTION OF PROBLEM. AT A STANDSTILL, TURNING THE STEERING WHEEL ABOUT 3/4 TURN RESULTS IN COMPLETE LOSS OF STEERING ASSIST AND SOMETIMES BRAKE BOOST, PLUS EXCESSIVE PUMP NOISE. DEALER IS NOW TRYING TO TELL ME THIS IS NORMAL. THERE IS A TECHNICAL BULLETIN ON THIS PROBLEM. GM HAS INSTRUCTED DEALERS NOT TO REPLACE THE POWER STEERING PUMP. AS THEY HAVE RECEIVED TOO MANY PUMPS UNDER WARRANTY THAT APPEAR TO HAVE NO PROBLEM. DRIVING THE VEHICLE AT 1200 RPM AND STEERING RIGHT OR LEFT WILL GENERATE A GROANING NOISE THAT DROWNS CONVERSATION IN THE CAB AND AT TIMES RESULTS IN REDUCED OR FAILED BRAKE BOOST. THE SAME LOUD GROANING NOISE OCCURS WHEN SLOWING THE VEHICLE FROM HIGHWAY SPEEDS WITHOUT ANY TURNING OF THE STEERING WHEEL, AS THE ENGINE RPM FALLS THROUGH THE 1200 RPM RANGE. SOUNDS LIKE A HYDRAULIC SYSTEM WITH AIR IN THE SYSTEM, LOW FLUID OR BEING PUSH TO OVER-CAPACITY. GM IS NOT BEING RESPONSIVE TO THE EXCESSIVE NUMBER OF CUSTOMER COMPLAINTS. I KNOW OTHERS WITH THE SAME PROBLEM ON SEVERAL YEARS OF 2500HD DURAMAX TRUCKS. IT IS NOT AT ALL DIFFICULT TO FIND OTHERS WITH THIS EXACT SAME COMPLAINT. THE NOISE APPEARS TO BE AN UNDER CAPACITY HYDRAULIC SYSTEM FOR POWER STEERING AND BRAKE BOOST. GM IS EITHER IGNORING THE PROBLEM OR HOPING THE PROBLEM TRUCKS WILL EXPIRE WARRANTY. MORE OWNERS NEED TO COMPLAIN AND FORCE A RECALL TO REPAIR THIS DEFECT IN DESIGN. CONTRARY TO MY DEALER'S ASSERTION, THIS IS NOT NORMAL.
