THE METALLIC BRAKE LINE TUBING RUPTURED CAUSING BRAKE FAILURE WHILE TRAVELING 50 MPH ON A DOWNGRADE. THE METAL LINE ABOVE THE REAR AXLE, PASSENGER SIDE, CORRODED THROUGH AND SPEWED BRAKE FLUID ALL OVER. THE CORROSION POINT IS ABOUT 7-10 INCHES FORWARD OF THE JUNCTION WHERE THE BRAKE LINE TRANSITIONS TO RUBBER HOSE THAT GOES TO THE REAR AXLE JUNCTION. THERE IS ALSO AN UNUSUAL AMOUNT OF CORROSION ON THE GAS FUEL FILTER FITTINGS LOCATED JUST FORWARD OF THE GASOLINE TANK. I WAS ABLE TO SLOW AND STOP BY DOWNSHIFTING AND USING THE EMERGENCY BRAKE. BRAKE LINES SHOULD NOT CORRODE AND FAIL IN ANY CLIMATE ON A 9 YEAR OLD TRUCK! THEY SHOULD NOT CORRODE PERIOD. *TR

BOTH THE DRIVER SIDE AND REAR BRAKE LINES, BECAUSE OF RUST, BURST AT THE SAME TIME. IT WAS LUCKY THE CAR WAS NOT ON THE ROAD.I HAVE REPLACED ALL THE LINES AND HAD TO REPLACE THE FRONT CALIPERS BECAUSE THE BLEEDING NIPPLED WERE COMPLETELY GONE DUE TO RUST. THE REAR CALIPERS WERE IN GOOD SHAPE.OVER THE COURSE OF OWNERSHIP, I HAVE HAD TO FORCEFULLY REMOVE THE TIRES FROM THE HUB BECAUSE THEY WERE RUSTED TO THE HUB. AGAIN I WAS LUCKY THAT I DID THIS WORK AT HOME AND WOULD HAVE BEEN IN SERIOUS TROUBLE HAD I BEEN FORCED TO CHANGE TIRES DUE TO A FLAT. HYDRAULIC BRAKE LINE CORROSION: THE BRAKE LINES BECAME SO CORRODED THAT I WAS LOSING APPROXIMATELY 16 OZ.OF FLUID EVERY 1000 MILES.THE CORROSION WAS SO BAD THAT THE BLEEDERS ON THE FRONT CALIPERS HAD RUSTED OFF AND HAD TO BE REPLACED AS WELL AS ALL OF THE BRAKE LINES.THIS RESULTED IN A REPAIR BILL OF $701.31.ONLY TIME WILL TELL WHEN THE REMAINING LINES AND CALIPERS WILL NEED REPLACING.ONLY A FEW WEEKS AGO THE SERVICE MGR. AT THIS LOCATION TOLD ME I PROBABLY HAD THE BEST LOOKING 2002 GMC PICK-UP IN THE U.S. SO NEGLECT IS NOT AT FAULT HERE.

STEPPED ON THE BRAKE TO PUT THE TRUCK IN GEAR WHEN IT WAS NOTICED THAT THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR! BACKED UP, PULLED FORWARD, THERE WERE NO BRAKES! VEHICLE WAS CAREFULLY DRIVEN HOME USING BACK ROADS AND TRANSMISSION BRAKING ALONG WITH LIMITED PEDAL BRAKING. BRAKE LIGHT CAME ON JUST BEFORE ARRIVING AT HOME, 10 MILES DOWN THE ROAD. THE TRUCK IS PRESENTLY IN AN INDEPENDENT REPAIR FACILITY. ALL METAL BRAKE LINES ARE TO BE REPLACED AT SIGNIFICANT COST TO ME. UPON INSPECTION IT IS APPARENT THAT THE BRAKE LINES ARE MORE OF SUBSTANDARD MATERIAL. ALL METAL LINES SHOW EXCESSIVE CORROSION AND DETERIORATION FOR A VEHICLE OF THIS AGE AND MILEAGE. THE TRUCK IS MY WIFE'S AND WAS RARELY DRIVEN DURING WINTER MONTHS.

2002 GMC SIERRA 1500 LOW SPEED ABS FAILURE. CURRENTLY UNDER RECALL # 05V37900 AND GM RECALL 05-068. AFTER RECALL WAS PERFORMED THE ABS IS STILL FAILING AND THIS VEHICLE WILL NOT STOP WHEN UNDER 5 MPH. THE TRUE FAILURE MODE IS NOT THE ABS SENSOR CORRODING, IT IS THE WHEEL BEARING HAVING EXTREME WEAR AND IT RENDERS THE HALL EFFECT SIGNAL THAT THE SENSOR READS BAD. DETAILS: AT 50K MILES I HAD THE SAME LOW SPEED ABS FAILURE. THE TRUCK WAS OUT OF WARRANTY AT THIS TIME AND I HAD TO PURCHASE GENUINE GM REPLACEMENT PARTS AND REPLACE BOTH FRONT WHEEL BEARING AND SENSORS ON MY OWN DIME. THIS FIXED THE FIRST ABS FAILURE. THEN THE RECALL CAME OUT FOR JUST THE WHEEL SENSOR, NOT THE BEARING. NOW 12K MILES LATER (TRUCK HAS 66K MILES) THE DRIVER SIDE WHEEL BEARING IS NOW SO SLOPPY THAT THE ABS SENSOR WILL NOT READ THE HALL EFFECT. THIS CAUSES THE LOW SPEED ABS FAILURE MODE AGAIN. I HAVE PULLED THE ABS FUSE UNDER THE HOOD SO THAT THE LOW SPEED FAILURES STOP, BUT NOW THE TRUCK HAS NON FUNCTIONING ABS. LASTLY, AFTER 12K MILES ON THE REPLACEMENT GM BEARINGS THERE IS SO MUCH SLOP IN THE BEARING THAT THE DEALER HAS SUGGESTED THAT I SHOULD NOT DRIVE THIS VEHICLE DUE TO SAFETY REASONS. THE DRIVER SIDE WHEEL IS CLOSE TO FALLING OFF THE VEHICLE. I CONTACTED GM CUSTOMER SERVICE AT 1-800 GMC TRUCK BY THE RECOMMENDATION OF MY DEALER AND GM CUSTOMER SERVICE IS HAS YET TO CONTACT THE DEALER FOR RESOLUTION IN THIS MATTER. MY ONLY CHOICE IT TO REPLACE THE WHEEL BEARING AT MY OWN COST AND I HAVE ALREADY DONE THAT ONCE 12K MILES AGO ONLY TO HAVE THE FAILURE OCCUR AGAIN. I WILL HAVE TO CONTINUE REPLACING THE WHEEL BEARINGS FOR THE REMAINDER OF THIS VEHICLES SERVICE LIFE TO MAINTAIN A VEHICLE THAT CAN SAFELY TRANSPORT MY FAMILY. I TOOK THE TRUCK IN TO BE FIX, HOWEVER, I AM STILL HAVING TROUBLE WITH THE BRAKES- (I BELIEVE IT IS WITH THE FRONT WHEEL SPEED SENSOR -THIS IS HOW IT WAS LISTED ON THE RECALL PAPER). THEY SEEM TO FAIL MORE UNDER DAMP/MOIST/SLIPPERY CONDITIONS. WHEN I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP TO TELL THEM THAT THE TRUCK WAS STILL HAVING PROBLEMS AFTER THEY HAD WORKED ON THE BRAKES THEIR RESPONSE WAS "DEAL WITH IT". I AM SORRY BUT I CANNOT JUST DEAL WITH BRAKES THAT YOU CANNOT TRUST. WHAT KIND OF HELP CAN I GET WITH THIS. THEY HAVE WORKED ON THE BRAKES FOUR TIMES....AND THEY ARE STILL NOT GOOD. PULLING THE FUSE DISABLES THE SYSTEM SO I'M NOW DRIVING WITHOUT ANTI-LOCK BRAKES. CERTAINLY BETTER THAN THE ALTERNATIVE. 3 - CORRECTIVE MEASURES AND AVAILABILITY OF PARTS I BROUGHT THE VEHICLE IN FOR SERVICE TO PATRICK GMC IN ROCHESTER, NY. PAID $85.73 TO HAVE IT DIAGNOSED. THEY INDICATED BOTH FRONT SPEED SENSORS WERE BAD AND BOTH HUB ASSEMBLIES WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED AT A COST OF $432 PER SIDE PLUS TAX. THE SENSOR ITSELF IS NOT AVAILABLE - IT MUST BE PURCHASED WITH AN ENTIRE HUB ASSEMBLY. I DID NOT HAVE THE WORK DONE AND CONTINUE TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE WITH THE ABS FUSE PULLED. WHILE DRIVING IN THE CITY WHILE IT WAS RAINING AT 10 MPH, THE VEHICLE IN FRONT OF THE CONSUMER STOPPED AND THE CONSUMERS BRAKES FAILED AND HIT THE VEHICLE IN FRONT. *AK (4/24/05) WHILE IN THE RAIN THE CONSUMER HAD COME OFF OF THE INTERSTATE GOING 20 MPH AND THE BRAKES FAILED AGAIN. THE VEHICLE WAS REGULARLY SERVICED BY THE DEALER. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER ON 4/28/05. THE DEALER REPORTED THAT THE VEHICLE NEEDED FRONT AND REAR PADS, THE FRONT ROTORS NEED MACHINING, THE REAR ROTORS NEEDED REPLACING , AND FOUR WHEEL CALIPERS NEEDED TO BE SERVICED. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE PADS WERE 70% WORN. THE CONSUMER STATED THAT THE REAR BRAKES HAVE PAD SQUEAKERS BUT THEY COULD NOT BE HEARD. THE ANTI LOCK BRAKES ON A 2002 GMC SIERRA EXTENDED CAB PICKUP TURN ON (WHEN THEY NORMALLY SHOULD NOT - DRY STOPPING CONDITIONS) AT LOW SPEED STOPS <10 MPH. WHEN THEY CAME ON THEY WOULD MAKE STOPPING THE VEHICLE VERY DIFFICULT. THE LAST TIME THE TRUCK COULD NOT BE STOPPED AT A STOP SIGN AND WENT INTO A BUSY INTERSECTION, LUCKILY WITH OUT AN ACCIDENT. TO PREVENT THE PROBLEM OVER THE LAST SIX MONTHS I HAVE HAD THE FUSE FOR THE ANTI LOCK BRAKES REMOVED TO DISABLE THE ANTI LOCK FEATURE COMPLETLEY.

I TOOK MY TRUCK IN FOR AN OIL CHANGE AND THE DEALER TOLD ME THAT MY TRUCK (50,000 MILES) NEEDED NEW FRONT ROTORS BECAUSE MINE WERE "DE-LAMINATED" I ASKED HOW THIS COULD HAPPEN AND THE MECHANIC COULD NOT GIVE ME A CLEAR ANSWER. THE GM ASSISTANCE CENTER TOLD ME THAT THE DEALERSHIP TOLD THEM THE REASON FOR THIS WAS I REFUSED SOME DEALER RECOMMENDED MAINTENANCE, ALTHOUGH THE DEALERSHIP SERVICE MANAGER SAID THAT WAS NOT THE CASE. I SPOKE TO A METALURGIST AND HE STATED THE PROBLEM WAS MOST LIKELY FROM THE MANUFACTURING PROCESS CAUSED BY NOT COOLING THE ROTORS PROPERLY AFTER THE WERE CAST, SINCE BOTH ROTORS ARE ONLY DEFECTIVE ON THE INSIDE FACE. I ALSO OWN A 1990 CHEVY TRUCK WITH 270,000 MILES THAT STILL HAS THE ORIGINAL ROTORS. I AM AFRAID THIS DEFECT COULD CAUSE AN OCCURRENCE OF BRAKE FAILURE AND I AM AFRAID TO DRIVE THE TRUCK UNDER HIGHWAY CONDITIONS. VEHICLE IS A 2002 GMC 6.0L 2500HD SIERRA TRUCK. IT HAS THE GM HYDROBOOST BRAKING SYSTEM (BRAKE ASSIST IS FROM THE POWER STEERING PUMP). THE PRESSURE LINE RUNNING FROM THE BRAKE BOOSTER TO THE STEERING RACK WAS INCORRECTLY ROUTED, RESULTING IN A VERY SHARP BEND IN THE FLEXIBLE PART OF HOSE. THE HOSE CRACKED AT THIS POINT, AND LEAKED SOME. THE FAILURE WAS CAUGHT EARLY, AND THERE WAS NO ACCIDENT OR FIRE. HOWEVER, IF THIS LEAK HAD NOT BEEN NOTICED, AT SOME POINT ALL POWER ASSIST BRAKING AND STEERING COULD HAVE BEEN LOST. I HAVE PICTURES OF THE INCORRECT ROUTING, AND THE OLD HOSE IF NEEDED.*AK

THE PADS NOT PRESSING ON THE ROTORS PROPERLY ALLOW THE ROTOR TO RUST FURTHER DEGRADING THE BRAKE PERFORMANCE AND CAUSES UNEVEN BRAKING AND GREATLY INCREASED STOPPING DISTANCE -- I HAVE HAD TO OVERHAUL THE BRAKES THREE TIMES AND THE REPAIR MECHANIC SAYS ALL GM TRUCKS HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM
