Wipers stop working
My defrost system doesn't work. As I drive down the road my windshield fogs up andni can't get it to un fog at all or fast enough. Almost caused me to have an accident before Christmas
The defroster/ radio control/ heating area stopped working. Upon visiting a mechanic was told they never seen this or heard of this happening before and quoted me over $1,000.00 dollars to fix stating that due to Federal Law they have to give an estimate but this problem not being in their system they came up with an estimate based on parts and labor. Upon searching online I found a recall for this issue dating back to 2009 recall number was 09V489000 but was never informed about this and while looking up my car it’s not listed but being a safety issue should still be current which it is not.
As i went to drive my terrain we bought back in June or July. But for the absolute first time we needed to use the defrost/defogger button last week on OCTOBER 20, 2022 and it wouldn't work. No lights came on to say it was defaulty. It also started to make our radio screen flicker when i tried to turn defrost on and it's continuously flickering and defrost doesn't engage on front windshield at all won't even melt snow or help defog when it's been raining or it's cold out. I almost wrecked my terrain due to this problem. Now on my instrument panel says camshaft/crankshaft sensor says service stabilitrack and something about my AWD System. All these happened within a week from trying to use my defrost. Also my instrument panel where it shows how fast i go flickers and it flickers on the RPM side as well. Noone has touched or looked it over since i have owned my 2010 terrain. Everything was just fine up till i pushed my defrost button and then all the other stuff happened

THE LINK BALL SOCKET BROKE IN THE WIPER TRANSMISSION ASSEMBLY CAUSING THE WIPERS TO STOP WORKING WHILE DRIVING IN A HARD RAIN ON THE INTERSTATE. GM HAS A SPECIAL COVERAGE SERVICE ON THIS KNOWN PROBLEM BUT IT HAS A LIMITED DATE AND MILEAGE ON THE COVERAGE. SPECIAL COVERAGE ADJUSTMENT N192266180 WIPER TRANSMISSION ARM LINKAGE FAILURE. THE LETTER NOTIFYING CUSTOMERS OF THIS PROBLEM WERE NOT SENT OUT UNTIL AFTER JANUARY 6, 2020. THAT ALLOWS LESS THAN A FEW MONTHS FOR THE PROBLEM TO BE INSPECTED AND FIXED. I DID NOT RECEIVE A LETTER AS OF JULY 20, 2020. THE REPAIR IS ABOUT $300.

ONE NIGHT MY DAUGHTER WAS DRIVING ON A COUNTRY TWO LANE ROAD DURING A HEAVY RAIN STORM WHEN THE WIPERS SUDDENLY STOPPED IN THE STRAIGHT UP POSITION ALMOST OFF THE WINDSHIELD. IT IS ONLY BY GOD THAT SHE WAS NOT INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT BECAUSE SHE HAD ZERO VISIBILITY. A SCARY SITUATION BECAUSE SHE WAS MEETING TRAFFIC AND BEHIND HER WAS AN 18 WHEELER BIG TRUCK AND OTHER VARIOUS VEHICLES. AS AN ADDED ISSUE SHE HAD NO PHONE RECEPTION TO CALL FOR HELP, DANGEROUSLY SITTING, BARELY OFF THE ROAD, ON THE 'SMALL' SHOULDER OF THAT TWO LANE ROAD AS A YOUNG WOMAN WITH NO HELP IN A HEAVY RAINSTORM. SHE HAD TO SIT AND WAIT UNTIL THE RAIN STOPPED TO PROCEED TO A SAFE AREA, FORTUNATELY WITHOUT AN INCIDENT, THANK GOD. UPON INSPECTION IT WAS NOTED THAT THE FAILURE OF THE WIPER SYSTEM WAS RELATED TO THE PLASTIC GROMMET COMING APART FROM THE METAL BALL IN WHICH IT WAS ATTACHED. POOR DESIGN SHOULD BE NOTED IN THAT THIS ATTACHMENT IS UPSIDE DOWN. A CONSTANT WEAR IS GOING TO TAKE PLACE BEING A PLASTIC GROMMET SURROUNDING A METAL BALL IN THE UPSIDE DOWN POSITION ALLOWING WATER AND DIRT TO ENTER THE JOINT FURTHER INCITING THE POSSIBILITY OF A DISLODGING IN THE FUTURE. YOU NEVER KNOW WHEN OR WHERE THIS WILL HAPPEN, OR WHAT SITUATION YOU MIGHT BE IN, FURTHER PROMOTING THE POSSIBILITY FOR AN ACCIDENT AND SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH. THANKFULLY GOD GUIDED MY DAUGHTER TO GET OFF THE ROAD AND KEPT HER SAFE. DRIVING AT 50 MPH IN POURING RAIN THE WINDSHIELD WIPER DETACHED AND GOT STUCK ON DRIVERSIDE OUTSIDE OF THE WINDSHIELD WHILE ON HIGH SPEED. I HAD TO LEAN OUT MY DRIVER SIDE WINDOW TO SEE A SPOT I COULD SAFETLY PULL OVER. AFTER I DISLODGE DRIVER SIDE WINDOW WIPER BLADE THEY STILL WOULDN'T MOVE. MOTOR RUNS, BUT WIPER BLADES DON'T MOVE NOW.

THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS IN MY 2010 GMC TERRAIN MALFUNCTIONED (STOPPED WORKING) WHILE DRIVING IN HEAVY RAIN AND TRAFFIC ON A HIGHWAY. DURING THE DOWNPOUR AND TRAVELING AT APPROXIMATELY 45MPH, I SWITCHED MY WIPERS TO 'HIGH SPEED' AND IMMEDIATELY THE WIPERS HALTED IN THE UPPER LEFT POSITION, FAILING TO MOVE FROM THAT POINT. I EXPERIENCED A COMPLETE LACK OF VISIBILITY AND HAD TO MANEUVER IN BETWEEN CARS TO GET SAFELY TO THE SHOULDER. I AM VERY LUCKY THIS DID NOT RESULT IN INJURY AND/OR A WRECK. FROM THAT POINT, I NEEDED TO WAIT UNTIL THE RAIN STOPPED AS HIGH SPEED CARS PASSED ME ON THE SHOULDER, GIVEN MY WIPERS WOULD NOT MOVE - DESPITE THE BATTERY/ENGINE/CAR RUNNING APPROPRIATELY OTHERWISE. FROM INTERNET RESEARCH, IT APPEARS THIS IS A COMMON (AND VERY DANGEROUS) PROBLEM, WHERE THE PLASTIC SOCKET (OR LINKAGE) OF THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS DETACHES IN HIGH VELOCITY. THIS PART SHOULD BE RECALLED - AS IT HAS BEEN IN CANADA.

THE WIPER FAILURE WAS DUE TO THE WIPER TRANSMISSION LINK BALL SEPARATING FROM ITS SOCKET. IT SEEMS TO BE THE IDENTICAL FAILURE COVERED BY THE GM RECALL ON 2013 GMC TERRAIN AND CHEVROLET EQUINOX CROSSOVERS(NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 16V582000). GM'S RECALL SHOULD INCLUDE 2010S AS WELL!

TO ADD TO THE PROBLEM YOU CAN'T JUST REPLACE THE BUSHINGS, YOU HAVE TO REPLACE THE WHOLE LINKAGE WHICH IS $125! SINCE WE DO NOT WANT TO PAY LABOR COSTS WE ARE TRYING TO REPLACE THE LINKAGE OURSELF. I WAS DRIVING IN A HEAVY RAINSTORM AT NIGHT AT APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH. SUDDENLY, THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS STOPPED MOVING. I HAD NO VISIBILITY OUT MY FRONT WINDSHIELD, AS A SHEET OF WATER LAY ON THE GLASS, WITH THE GLARE WORSENED BY THE HEADLIGHTS OF ONCOMING VEHICLES. I WAS ON A NARROW STATE ROAD WITH NO SHOULDERS (A GUARDRAIL ON ONE SIDE, MATURE TREES ON THE OTHER), WITH NO SAFE PLACE TO PULL OVER. THE WIPERS WOULD NOT OPERATE IN ANY SETTING (HIGH, LOW, INTERMITTENT). THE NEXT DAY, DURING THE DAYLIGHT, I OBSERVED THAT I COULD MANUALLY 'FREEWHEEL' THE WIPER ARMS. WHILE I COULD HEAR THE WINDSHIELD MOTOR TURNING, THE WIPER ARMS THEMSELVES APPEARED TO BE NO LONGER LINKED/TETHERED TO THE WIPER MOTOR. TWO DAYS LATER, THE GMC DEALER INFORMED ME THAT MY "WIPER TRANSMISSION WAS BROKEN". WHILE THE REPAIR COST ME $372, MY BIGGER CONCERN IS THAT THIS INCIDENT EASILY FALLS WITHIN THE TOP 3 MOST HORRIFYING EXPERIENCES OF MY LIFE....DRIVING ALONE, AT NIGHT, IN THE RAIN, AND SUDDENLY A CATASTROPHIC FAILURE OF BOTH WIPERS, LEAVING ME UNABLE TO SEE OUT MY FRONT WINDSHIELD, WITH ONCOMING TRAFFIC AND NOWHERE TO PULL OFF THE ROAD. *TR

WHEN YOU SHUT THE VEHICLE OFF YOU CAN READILY HEAR A KNOCKING SOUND FROM THE DASH FOR SEVERAL MINUTES. THE RADIO ALSO SHUT OFF ALONG WITH ALL THE RADIO ILLUMINATION INITIAL PROBLEM DATE: DEC 27, 2015. THE INABILITY TO DEFROST IS A CONTINUING PROBLEM TO PRESENT TIME.

WHILE OPERATING THE VEHICLE IN A SEVERE RAIN STORM THE FRONT WINDSHIELD WIPERS STOPPED WORKING. THIS CREATED AN IMMEDIATE LOSS OF VISIBILITY. AN INVESTIGATION INTO THE PROBLEM REVEALED THAT THE WINDSHIELD WIPER LINKAGE BECAME DISCONNECTED AT THE MOTOR. THE LINKAGE IS CONNECTED WITH A SIMPLE SNAP-IN BALL AND SOCKET JOINT. THE SOCKET PORTION OF THE JOINT ASSEMBLY APPEARS TO BE A NYLON TYPE MATERIAL. IT IS BELIEVED THAT OVER TIME THE SOCKET WORE TO THE POINT THAT THE BALL WAS ABLE TO BECOME DISENGAGED FROM THE SOCKET. THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS WERE OPERATING AT THEIR HIGHEST SETTING WHEN THIS INCIDENT OCCURRED.

DRIVING ON HIGHWAY AT SPEED OF 65 MPH IT SUDDENLY RAINED, I TURNED WIPERS ON THEY GOT STUCK IN MIDDLE OF WINDSHIELD MAKING IT TOTALLY INVISIBLE OF MATTER OF SECONDS. IF I WAS NOT IN CAR ACCIDENT THEN I'M HOPING I NEVER WILL BE. HAD TO QUICKLY OPEN PASSENGER SIDE DOOR TO SEE WHERE I CAN PULL OVER TO THE SIDE. I'M GLAD NO 1 WAS RIGHT BEHIND ME, OTHERWISE THERE WOULD BE UNAVOIDABLE ACCIDENT. THIS PROBLEM IS IN WINTER MOSTLY, AS I WAS DRIVING MY WINDSHIELD BECAME FROSTED, I QUICKLY TURNED ON THE HEAT TO DEFROST IT,BUT MY HEATHER WOULDN'T TURN ON. I PULLED TO THE SIDE TO CHECK WHAT HAPPENED, MY HEATER WOULDN'T TURN ON, IT WAS TURNED ON BUT ONLY COLD AIR WAS COMING OUT OF IT. I TURNED THE CAR OFF AND ON AGAIN, STILL COLD AIR WAS COMING. AFTER TURNING ON AND OFF MY CAR FEW TIMES THE HEAT CAME ON. I WAS ABLE TO DEFROST MY WINDSHIELD AND CONTINUE DRIVING. IT HAPPENED MANY TIMES AFTER THAT TIME, BUT I ALREADY KNEW TO TURN OFF AND ON MY CAR NUMBER OF TIMES WOULD DO THE TRICK, I WASN'T THAT CONCERNED. FROM THAT TIME I REALIZED THAT AS LONG AS IN START MY HEAT TURNS ON AND AS LONG AS IT'S KEPT ON ALL THE TIME, I WOULDN'T HAVE A PROBLEM, ALSO ONCE DRIVING ON HIGHWAY MY WINDSHIELD BECAME FOGGED, REQUIRED ME TO PULL TO THE SIDE AND I HAD TO GET OUT AND CLEAN THE WINDSHIELD GLASS TO GET RID OF FOG. I WASN'T ABLE TO GET RID OF IT ANY OTHER WAY. I USUALLY DON'T DRIVE MUCH ON HIGHWAY SO I WASN'T CONCERNED. WHEN I HAPPENED TO CHECK RECALLS TO MY CAR JUST RECENTLY I NOTICED THAT THERE HAS BEEN A RECALL FOR VISIBILITY/DEFROSTER/DEFOGGER SYSTEM FOR SOME MODELS OF 2010 TERRAIN, BUT IT DIDN'T SHOW A RECALL FOR MY CAR AND. FRONT WINDSHIELD WIPERS STOPPED WORKING. THE WIPER ARM ASSEMBLY BECAME DISCONNECTED FROM THE WIPER MOTOR SO THAT THE WIPERS STOPPED MOVING BACK AND FORTH. THERE WAS IMMEDIATE LOSS OF VISIBILITY DUE TO THE HEAVY RAIN. THE DISCONNECTED WIPER ARMS COULD BE MOVED BACK AND FORTH OVER THE WINDSHIELD BY HAND (STAYING IN TANDEM WITH EACH OTHER) AND THAT IS HOW I KNOW THEY DISCONNECTED FROM THE MOTOR. THE DESIGN OF THIS SYSTEM SHOULD BE MORE FAILSAFE, AND A FAILURE IN THE SYSTEM PRESENTS AN IMMINENT DANGER DUE TO THE LOSS OF VISIBILITY WHILE DRIVING IN THE RAIN. *TR
