We have 2011 GMC Terrain. We bought it used so we have only had it a couple years. We noticed it seemed to be using a little more oil but then we were told to keep watch on it. My husband did. Then one day while I was driving it I thought I had heard a faint clicking noise. I said that car isn’t going anywhere until it’s fixed. Little did we know it wouldn’t ever start again. We didn’t know about a so call recall or not a recall. Still until we had to have it towed in to be fixed, I heard it mentioned. By then the car was repaired at our expense of $8000+. We are retired and don’t have or didn’t have money for that repair. The only reason we had a little money was because my husband got paid for back (lump sum) payment just a couple of days before this. We still owe on the car. Without it we only have an old 2001GMC SIERRA 1500. We live paycheck to paycheck. I called one of GMC’s phone numbers today and I was told if we didn’t have it done at a GMC FACILITY we get NO reimbursement. I cried. My husband is a real stickler when it comes to our vehicles and maintenance and logs and also keeps receipts.Please tell me there is some to help us.

SUV gets a slow down warning and it stops shuts off , it’s happened several times now I’m scared!!you wait few minutes it turns back on , mechanic said this a complain about this vehicle all the time , it has not been repaired I’m disabled with no money , I was on the highway and thank God I was on the slow lane if not I would have been killed by an eighteen wheeler. GMC is waiting for someone to die and probably address this issue
Two of the valves failed and the dealership told me it was likely due to a manufacturer’s defect.
Engine Failure: Timing chain had excessive slack causing guide to be sheared off. Timing chain guide bolt was completely stripped requiring both the timing chain and cylinder head to be replaced. continuous excessive oil issues burns and uses 3-5 quarts of oil every week to 2 weeks causing engine issues slow acceleration lurching and chugging issues with engine won’t downshift or upshift correctly transmission seizing issues have spent 1000s of dollars trying to fix this issue and mechanic has said it’s just a commen issues with this make and model and year range just have to keep pouring oil in each week which is costly and eventually will cause my engine and transmission to fail.
My car wouldn’t start, later found out it was due to timing chain issue which ended up blowing up my engine. I live 40 minutes from work and am consistently driving on the interstate for at least an hour a day. GM said there’s nothing they can do even though there’s been class action lawsuits for the engine. My car has also had oil consumption problems. I bought my car in March of 2022. The engine blew up by November 2022. I barely got my car back in September 2023. After the engine replacement, still wouldn’t turn on, over heated immediately when I did get it back. After paying $7440 for the engine replacement I had to fork over snother $650 to replace the fuel pump control module, and an engine control unit. My car overheated AGAIN just 2 weeks ago!!!!

I have spoken with many mechanics and they state that this car has issues with oil consumption This model vehicle has been reported to have a major oil consumption issues. The oil is dissolved within the engine.
My teenage daughter was driving vehicle home as she was approaching a traffic light Our 2011 GMC Terrain just turned off by itself leaving my daughter strand it in a middle of the road.I had to towed vehicle home called a mechanic to come inspect what had happened just to find out that my vehicle Timing chain had given out just like that. Vehicle was running good didn’t show any symptoms and just like that with no prior warnings it stop working. This vehicle put my daughters life in danger by living her stranded on the middle of a very busy transit road.

I bought this vehicle and NHTSA made GM release an extended warranty on this vehicle for excessive loss of engine oil. In 2019 I had to take this vehicle and pay several thousand dollars for the pistons to be replaced in my engine because I was 1 year past the extended warranty. Now 3 years after spending thousands of dollars through a certified GM store I am having the same problem excessive loss of engine oil. I have zero leaks and I have to put oil in my engine every other day. If I do not by the end of the week I will have an empty engine.
Ok so my 2011 GMC terrain just went over 150,000 miles I bought this vehicle used from a dealership not knowing that there was a big lawsuit or that GMC continuted making this make and model knowing that it had a oil usage problem. So mmm mmm with that being said let's start with my vehicle uses oil, my vehicle idles high low and always rough at times, my service stabilitrak flashes, my motor sounds like a HEMI kock knock knock instead of a 2.4, doesn't matter where I'm at or where I'm going I let off of the gas and my car dies.... Let me clarify on that last one me and my 9 year old daughter we're headed home today let off the gas to go around a curve and a hill and you guesswd it my 2011 GMC TERRAIN died I lost all control and all power had no power steering and no brakes... I just thank Jesus I wasn't speeding and that there was no oncoming traffic cuz I don't think me nor my 9 year old would have made it out ok. So thanks to whatever faulty motor engine or power train GMC has with this make and model putting people's safety and lives in danger due to these issues and only choosing certain VINS eligible instead of all VINS from 2011 GMC TERRAINS in my opinion is just choosing which owners survive because this make and model is dangerous to whoever drives it and to whoever meets it on the highway.
My wife and I on an Interstate Highway when the Check Engine light came on and the vehicle started slowing down. The message "Engine Power Reduced" came up on the dashboard display. My wife was driving and started pulling off the highway. As we left the driving surface, the car cut off. After a few minutes, the vehicle restarted and we drove home (about 12 miles). We took the vehicle to a mechanic who told us the oil was low. No low oil or low oil pressure lights had illuminated before this incident. He also stated that the timing chain would have to be changed and that this was a recurring problem on the GMC Terrain. I have not had any work done to the vehicle as yet. GMC should have a recall for this problem as I have seen many reports on the internet since it happened to us dating back over ten years.
2011 GMC Terrain SLT The engine blew do to timing Chain breaking and it tore up the injectors as i was looking it up there where lots of people with the same problem and when it blew i was on the Highway and almost wrecked. We put new engine. After putting the engine in the transmission seems like every gear you put it in is like neutral and reeding up on other complaints people are having the same problems it only has 80,000 miles No lights came on or Warnings

2011 GMC TERRAIN. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARD TO ENGINE FAILURE. THE CONSUMER STATED THAT THE ENGINE SEIZED. AT THAT TIME, THE VEHICLE WAS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. THE CONSUMER TRADED THE VEHICLE IN AT A LOSS OF NEARLY 5,000.00. THE CONSUMER REQUESTED TO BE COMPENSATED FOR LOSS DUE TO DISCOVERING A CLASS ACTION SUIT FOR THE FAILURE.
Was driving the car and all of a sudden a bunch of lights came on the dash called the dealership where I got it from to get fix and they said sorry they can’t help and then have blocked my number from communication. I can’t drive my car so I don’t know what to do at this point
Was driving home from work had a half tank of gas no lights or anything came on, car just shut off was not able to start it from that point. I spoke with car lot to whom I'm making payments with and not able to get anything done with the vehicle. Now I've lost my job and I'm about to be homeless due to this mechanic problem on this vehicle.
In March of 2019. My 2011 GMC Terrain shut down while I was driving. No warning lights, sounds or any prior problems to indicate that the engine was no longer going to function. It was a miracle I wasn't driving on a multiple highway, which could have resulted in a serious multiple collision with catastrophic results. I had the vehicle towed to a mechanic shop. The engine due to internal oil consumption was replaced. For two and a half years I consistently had required oil changes. Then the exact thing happened again. In December 2021; my 2011 GMC Terrain completely shut down while driving.I again had to have it towed to the same mechanics, and was told the exact same problem occurred internal consumption of burning oil causing timing chain failure. So I had to have yet another engine replaced in this vehicle making it engine #4 in the exact same vehicle. That was completed in Feb. 2022 And I am currently having to go back to the lube place, and have them add one and a half to two quarts of oil every two weeks. Because it is consuming oil.!!!!!! I am filing a complaint because this to be addressed in having a recall; too get these vehicles off the road. A liability civil suit. A refund for my engine repairs. This vehicle is worthless!!!!! I can't even ethically sell or trade it in. Thank you Engine was replaced.

The 2.4l ecotec motor has had so many complaints not only for gmc terrain but also the Chevy equinox. The motor just stops and lose everything while driving! I was in traffic and it stop almost causing an accountant God I wasn't hurt! Now I have this car with a blown motor because it's a no tolerance motor. We spend so much money on these vehicles and spend so much to keep them safe for driving on the road and yet when it comes to the company cutting corners to save money they don't get faulted for putting faulty equipment in these vehicles. I have a 2011 terrain and I bought it in 2019 for 9000 and drove it a month before the motor blew it has less then 100000 miles on it and for me to get a new motor it's another 5000. I just don't understand why if the equipment is faulty and so many complaints have been posted about the same issue why it's not being recalled or why we can't get the company to give us new motors or a new car! We are expected to pay insurance registration inspections test every year and pay for the normal wear on the vehicles to make sure they are safe but they can't recall faulty parts! I foster children and can't afford to make expensive purchases that weren't caused by neglect on my part
Engine has had High Oil consumption for years I been changing oil every 1500 to 2000 miles, My GMC dealer nor did GMC inform me that there is an issue with this vehicle even when i had an extended warranty and the car has been in for service many times at my local dealership for it. now it will cost as much as a new engine to fix. GMC needs to make there products better and honor there mistakes,

My car is burning oil between oil changes. Oil changed regularly every 3,000 miles for the past 11 years. Worried about motor blowing up and being stranded somewhere due to the oil consumption.Oil life still showing 42% on panel and burnt oil on the crossing part on oil stick only.. Contacted Dealership about a Class Action Settlement which I was unaware of cause I didn't get a notice of settlement it was to late and expired..told me my warranty for this was over and they couldn't help me unless I pay 3,500.00 for new piston's. No warning light nor messages, car over heated and engine smoking..Had to put more oil in to get by..6 months ago when it all started.

I have owned this car for a little over year and have had nothing but issues. The car started on fire with an electrical issues once, the car has just stopped running on me multiple times while I was driving, almost causing a wreck. The engine goes through Oil like crazy. I've had it back to the dealership multiple times and never get a fix. I believe this vehicle is a true lemon.
The timing chain is run by oil pressure. This engine burns so much oil that I have put in 6quarts in 1 month. If not continually checking and adding oil the vehicle stalls in traffic.
The original Engine blew a piston rod and cracked my engine in the middle of the freeway , had to have vehicle towed to a shop and whole engine replaced with a new one. This could have caused a huge accident or even caught fire. I had no previous issue or light on the engine prior to this happening. Oil had been changer regularly , Tune ups, and any additional required maintenance, The Manufacturer has not wanted to take any responsibility or assist in compensating any of the cost . I have been fighting this for well over 2 years

The vehicle was repaired however the failure persisted. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and informed the contact that the vehicle was not included in a recall. The contact was referred to the dealer for assistance and a case was opened. The approximate failure mileage was 170,000.

Purchased this vehicle in November 2020 and 7 months later was coming home from a trip, there was a ticking noise got louder and faster and then a pop. Took vehicle to a mechanic spun bearings and rods and crankcase was completely dry There were no leaks or evidence of oil These vehicles are known to have excessive oil consumption. I believe that the blown engine was a direct result of oil consumption
Vehicle has been burning up to 3 quarts of oil every 1,500 miles. This has been an ongoing issue for years. In 2020 a GM dealer serviced/repaired the vehicle to correct the issue; the vehicle only had approximately 60,000 miles at the time. The issue returned around 20,000 miles after the repair. Neither an instrument panel light nor a OBDII code appears when the oil is low. When the oil is low the vehicle stalls when making a turn and also jitters and jerks while idling. I am put in a dangerous situation when the vehicle stalls (especially on the freeway service roads).
Timing chain either broke or jumped track while driving and car shut off while vehicle was in motion. Had to have it towed home and will not start ever since. I hear alot of complaint with this type of motor with oil use and timing with results of destroying engine completely and not having money to fix after paying alot of money for this vehicle. GM needs to take responsibility for their faulty 2.4l ecotec motor and issue a recall to those affected by this faulty engine. I was driving a busy street in my home town when the car just shut off while in motion. Lost all power to the vehicle and could have crashed or been hit or worse been seriously injured or fatally injured. Please take responsibility and fix the problems created by faulty equipment! I had purchased from used lot and broke down same month I bought it and has been sitting outside my house ever since over a year
The engine locked up while driving on the interstate rendering it inoperable and undrivable. There were no warning signs (ie. leaks, noises, overheating, etc.). The vehicle now needs an entirely new or used engine and is unrepairable.
Service stabilitrak pops up, engine goes into reduced power mode. Third time happening and dealership has done nothing to fix it besides charge me money. Car has 96k miles at this point and I’ve spent more money to fix it than it’s worth.

MY VEHICLE HAD BEEN HAVING TO COMMON OIL CONSUMPTION MEANING I CHECKED THE OIL EVERY TIME I GOT FUEL. THIS LAST TIME I WENT TO CHECK THE OIL LEVEL THE DIPSTICK WAS UNDER SO MUCH PRESSURE IT SHOT TWENTY FEET INTO THE AIR WHEN THE HOOD OPENED. I THEN DROVE THE VEHICLE FROM THE GAS STATION BACK HOME AND THIS TIME TOOK THE OIL FILL CAP OFF AND WHEN I TURNED THE CAP A QUARTER TURN IT BLEW OFF INTO THE AIR FOLLOWED BY BURNING HOT OIL DROPLETS AND STEAM. WHEN I RUN THE VEHICLE FOR ANY AMOUNT OF TIME THE OIL DRAIN BACK SYSTEM BUILDS MORE PRESSURE THEN THE COOLING SYSTEM EVENTUALLY CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO STALL UNDER LOAD SUCH AS WHEN TAKING OFF FROM A STOP. WHEN THE VEHICLE DOES STALL IT WILL TAKE FROM 2-10 MINUETS TO RESTART.

PURCHASED A 2011 GMC TERRAIN IN MAY WITH 94K MILES. W?HEN CHANGE OIIL LIGHT CAME ON, TOOK TO A GMC DEALER TO HAVE IT SERVICED. DROVE IT HOME ABOUT 50 MILES, PARKED IN GARAGE AND 4 DAYS LATER STARTED IT. ENGINE MADE A WEIRD NOISE SO I TURNED IT OFF. WOULD NOT START AGAIN AND HAD IT TOWED TO A LOCAL GARAGE WHO TELLS ME THE TIMING CHAIN BROKE AND BENT ALL THE VALVE STEMS AND DAMAGED THE HEADS. THE VEHICLE IS FINANCED SO I'M MAKING PAYMENTS ON A WORTHLESS SUV THAT NOW NEEDS A NEW ENGINE AT A COST OF ABOUT 7500.00.

ON 08/05/2020 I WAS SOLD THIS VEHICLE WITH A CRACKED MANIFOLD. UPON REPLACEMENT OF THE MANIFOLD IT WAS DISCOVERED THAT TWO MANIFOLD BOLTS WERE SEARED ON THE ENGINE BLOCK SIDE. AFTER CONSULTING MY MECHANIC AND ANOTHER, I WAS ADVISED THAT 1) TO REPAIR THE ENGINE HAS TO BE LIFTED AS THE SPACE BETWEEN THE FIREWALL AND THE ENGINE IS TOO SMALL TO MAKE REPAIRS WITHOUT LIFTING THE ENGINE ( MANUFACTURE DEFECT) . FURTHER, IT WAS ADVISED TO ME THAT COMPLETELY SEALING THE MANIFOLD COULD LEAD TO A FIRE IN THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER BECAUSE ' THESE ENGINES RUN HOT'. AS I EXPRESSED THAT THIS VEHICLES 'ANTIFREEZE' LEVEL IS NOT STABLE AS I HAVE EXPERIENCED WITH OTHER VEHICLES. THERE IS SUPPOSED TO BE AN OIL LIGHT SIGNIFYING LOW OIL WHICH DID NOT GO OFF AS WELL AS DOING 3 OIL CONSUMPTION TESTS MANDATED BY GM IN ORDER FOR THEM TO DO ANY REPAIRS. IN JANUARY 2020, I GOT A NOTICE FROM GMC ABOUT THE SETTLEMENT OF A LAWSUIT REGARDING VEHICLE OIL CONSUMPTION. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO MY LOCAL GMC AND THE MANAGER READ THE "NOTICE OF APPROVAL OF CLASS ACTION SETTLEMENT AND CLAIM FORM" THAT WAS SENT TO ME. THE LAWSUIT REQUIRES GMC TO PAY FOR REPAIRS OR REIMBURSE CUSTOMERS FOR THE REPAIRS. MY VEHICLE HAD NOT HAD THE NECESSARY REPAIRS DONE TO IT, SO THE MANAGER INSTRUCTED ME TO APPROVE THE NECESSARY REPAIRS AND PAY FOR THEM OUT OF POCKET BECAUSE GMC WOULD REIMBURSE ME. THE REPAIRS WERE COMPLETED ON FEBRUARY 7, 2020. I FOLLOWED ALL THE GUIDELINES PROVIDED TO ME BY GMC IN ORDER TO GET THE REIMBURSEMENT. I MAILED DOCUMENTS TO THEM A WEEK AFTER THE REPAIRS WERE COMPLETED, MONTHS BEFORE THE DEADLINE OF MAY 16, 2020. AFTER WAITING OVER A MONTH AND NOT GETTING REIMBURSED, I CALLED GMC CUSTOMER SERVICES (1-866-790-5600) ON APRIL 11, 2020. I WAS INFORMED BY GMC CUSTOMER SERVICE TO EXPECT A REIMBURSEMENT CHECK FOR REPAIRS AND RENTAL CAR FEES WITHIN TWO WEEKS. AFTER NOT RECEIVING THE REIMBURSEMENT, I CALLED AGAIN IN JUNE AND JULY 2020 AND GIVEN THE SAME INFORMATION-WAIT. THIS CONTINUED THROUGHOUT THE SUMMER. THE DELAY WAS BLAMED ON COVID-19. I CALLED AGAIN IN LATE SEPTEMBER 2020, AND THEY INSTRUCTED ME TO EMAIL ALL THE DOCUMENTS AND THAT THE CHECK WOULD ARRIVE IN TWO WEEKS. ON SEPTEMBER 30, 2020, I EMAILED ALL THE DOCUMENTS TO GMC. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THEY MAY CONSIDER PAYING 10% OF THE TOTAL REPAIR COST. THE VEHICLE WAS CURRENTLY AT THE INDEPENDENT MECHANIC AND HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. I RECEIVED MY TRUCK BACK ON JANUARY 25TH, 2016 AFTER BEING TOLD IT WAS FIXED. ONCE MY FREE OIL CHANGES WERE UP IN MARCH OF 2016, I EITHER TOOK MY TRUCK FOR OIL CHANGES OR MY UNCLE, GRANDFATHER OR MYSELF CONDUCTED THE OIL CHANGES (YOU WILL SEE THE RECEIPTS ON THIS). AFTER SOME TIME I STARTED TO USE OIL AGAIN, MORE THAN NORMAL. WHEN I INQUIRED WITH ROGERS CHEVROLET I WAS TOLD THAT MY TRUCK SHOULD BE FINE BECAUSE THEY ALREADY REPLACED THE PISTONS AND RINGS AND THAT MY ENGINE IS JUST GOING TO BURN OIL BECAUSE THE WAY GM BUILT THE MOTOR AND TO KEEP EXTRA OIL ON HAND. WELL ON 01/30/2019 I WAS ON THE HIGHWAY DOING AROUND 75MPH WHEN MY ENGINE FAILED. I ALMOST WAS IN AN ACCIDENT ON THE 3 LANE HIGHWAY! I WAS ADVISED TO HAVE IT TOWED TO A NEARBY DEALER IN WHICH I DID. I WAS INFORMED THAT THE PISTONS BLEW THROUGH THE BOTTOM OF THE MOTOR, AND THEN I WAS ADVISED TO PROVIDE RECEIPTS IN WHICH I DID, AND NOW I AM BEING TOLD THE SPECIAL WARRANTY IS EXPIRED IN WHICH IT IS NOT I AM ONLY AT 109,000 MILES AND IT WAS LAST SERVICED FOR THIS SPECIAL WARRANTY IN 2016, THEREFORE, IT SHOULD BE COVERED UNTIL THE 120,000 MILES LIKE INDICATED ON THE WARRANTY BULLETIN. THIS ISSUE IS VERY DANGEROUS AND FATALITIES ARE GOING TO HAPPEN IF THIS DOESN'T GET ADDRESSED AND FIXED PROPERLY. I RECEIVED A LETTER IN AUGUST OF 2015 SAYING TO BRING MY VEHICLE IN IF MY CAR WAS EFFECTED AS LONG AS IT WAS IN THE 7 YEARS 6 MONTHS AND LESS THAN 120K MILES.IN AUGUST 2016 I STARTED TO SMELL OIL BURNING IN MY CAR AND BLACK OIL LEAKING OUT OF THE ENGINE. AFTER MY RESEARCH THIS WAS THE BEGINNING STAGES OF THIS RECALL. I CALLED, GMC JAMES RIVARD AND MENTIONED THIS RECALL ASKING THEM TO FIX IT. THERE WAS ONLY AT 98K MILES AND IT HAD BEEN LESS THAN 7 YEARS. THEY LATER SAID THEY HAD TO REPLACE A CAP THAT WORE OUT, BUT CHARGED ME 129. I REALIZED THEY HAD TOOK ADVANTAGE OF ME BY CHARGING ME SIMPLY FOR CLEANING UP THE OIL AND PUTTING MORE IN. NOTHING ON THE RECIEPT MENTIONS A REPLACEMENT CAP. THROUGH THE YEARS MY HUSBAND AND I STARTED TO NOTICED MORE ISSUES, STABILTRAK WARNINGS, LOW ACCELERATION, OIL CHANGES NOT LASTING MORE THEN 2.5 TO 3 MONTHS. WE CALLED IN AUGUST 2018 AND WAS TOLD I COULD BRING IT IN, BUT WOULD HAVE TO PAY THE 125 IF THEY DECIDED IT WAS NOT THE RECALL. THIS WAS THE ISSUE PREVIOUSLY! SINCE WE'VE PAID OFF THE CAR IN SEPTEMBER 2018, WE HAVE EXPERIENCED THE CAR STOPPING IN WHILE IN DRIVE WHEN PRESSING THE BREAK, 'LOW ENGINE POWER' WARNINGS, ALONG WITH THE STABILTRAK WARNINGS, AND FREQUENTLY WANTS TO STOP WHEN MAKING HARD LEFT OR RIGHT TURNS ON STREETS. WE TOOK TO A LOCAL MECHANIC LAST WEEK AND WAS INFORMED THE CARS OIL WAS COMPLETELY (GONE FOR THE 3RD TIME, THE OIL LIFE IN MY CAR WAS AT 27%). WITH SEVERAL OTHERS, THEY INFORMED THIS COULD BE DUE TO PISTON RINGS BEING WORN OUT. I IMMEDIATELY RECALLED THE INCIDENT IN 2016 AND CALLED THE GMC RECALL CENTER. I TOWED THE CAR TO MY MECHANIC AND DESCRIBED WHAT HAPPENED. HE TOLD ME THAT THEIR WAS AN INTERNAL ENGINE FAILURE THAT CAUSED THE TIMING BELT TO BREAK. I CALLED MY INSURANCE AND THEY HAD A FIELD ADJUSTER LOOK AT THE VEHICLE AND HE NOR THE MECHANIC COULD FIGURE OUT WHY OR HOW THIS HAPPENED ON SUCH A WELL MAINTAINED VEHICLE. THEY BOTH STATED THAT THERE IS NO WAY THAT I SHOULD HAVE HAD 2 MAJOR SYSTEM FAILURES (I JUST REPLACED THE TRANSMISSION) WITH THE CURRENT VEHICLE MILEAGE. I CALLED GMC AND THEY WILL NOT SO ANYTHING TO HELP ME. THEIR ONLY SOLUTION IS FOR ME TO TOW IT TO A GMC DEALERSHIP AND THEY WILL LOOK AT IT. I COULD'VE DIED IN THIS CAR, I STILL OWE ON THIS CAR AND THEY WON'T HELP ME.

THE CAR WAS VIOLENTLY SHAKING AND THE DRIVER SHUT IT OFF. IT WAS TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP. THE DEALERSHIP RECEIVED ONE CODE FOR THE THROTTLE SENSOR POSITIONER. THE CODE WAS RESET AND A LOOSE CONNECTION WAS DIAGNOSED AS THE FAULT AND RETURNED TO OWNER. FIVE DAYS LATER THE CAR WAS STARTED IN THE GARAGE. UPON STARTUP IT STARTED AGAIN TO SHAKE VIOLENTLY. THE CAR WAS PUT IN REVERSE AND BEGAN TO SHAKE VIOLENTLY AND THE DRIVER RECEIVED A STABILITRAK WARNING LIGHT. THE CAR WAS SHUT OFF AND WAS AGAIN TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP. THE DEALERSHIP FOUND TWO CODES CRANK POSITION SENSOR AND MISFIRE. THE CAR WAS DRIVEN FIVE MILES WITH NO ISSUES. THE DEALERSHIP CANNOT LOCATE THE ROOT CAUSE OF THE PROBLEM. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO ENGINE PROBLEMS AND SEVERAL OTHER ISSUES WITH VEHICLE. *SMD THE CONSUMER STATED THE DISTRICT MANAGER OF GM REFUSED TO ALLOW THE DEALER TO CHECK THE ECM/ECU AND OTHER APPROPRIATE SYSTEMS, TO MAKE SURE ALL THE ENGINE SETTINGS WERE AS THEY SHOULD BE, SINCE HE EXPERIENCED SEVERAL STRANGE EVENTS, SUCH AS THE SHIFTER HANGING IN D SOMETIMES AS HE TRIED TO MOVE TO PARK, VERY LOW MPG FOR SEVERAL DAYS 24-25 MPG, WHEN HE USUALLY GOT 28-33 MPG. THE OIL PERCENT METER USED TO BE AT 95%. THE ENGINE WOULD REV TO 7K-8K RPM WHEN THE FIRST STARTED AND HELD 2-3 SECONDS. SOMETIMES THE ENGINE REVVED TO 1600-1800 RPM AND THE VEHICLE WOULD ALMOST STALL, AND SOMETIMES THE MALFUNCTION INDICATOR LIGHT WOULD ILLUMINATE ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. SOON AFTER, THE FAN BELT BEGAN TO SQUEAL. THE SQUEALING BEGAN, WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS STARTED OR WHEN DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS WITH THE AC ON, AND GOING UP SOME SLOPPED HIGHWAYS, ROADS AND STREETS. THE DEALER REPLACED THE BELT. IN THE SUMMER OF 2011, WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS STARTED THE ENGINE WOULD MAKE A CHATTERING-TAPPING METAL-TO-METAL SOUND, AS IT THERE WERE NO OIL IN THE ENGINE. THE PROBLEM WOULD OCCUR WITH A COLD OR HOT ENGINE. THE PROBLEM STOPPED AFTER P0011 ERROR SOLENOID WAS REPLACED.
OUR VEHICLE HAS EXPERIENCED THE ROUGH IDLE AND HARD/STALLED SHIFTING SINCE WE BOUGHT IT IN 2011. IT HAS BEEN REVIEWED BY THE DEALERSHIP AND WE WERE TOLD A RECENT RECALL WOULD FIX THE ISSUE. IT DID NOT AND THESE ISSUES HAVE CONTINUED. RECENTLY, THIS ISSUE HAPPENED AGAIN, FOLLOWED BY THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT TURNING ON, FOLLOWED BY (A FEW HOURS LATER) THE ENGINE GOING INTO "REDUCED ENGINE MODE" AND THE ENTIRE VEHICLE SHAKING UNCONTROLLABLY WITH THUMPING NOISES COMING FROM THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS STOPPED AND RESTARTED AND WITHIN A FEW MILES, THIS SAME ISSUE HAPPENED AGAIN, WHICH WAS VERY DIFFICULT TO HANDLE AND VERY UNSAFE FOR TRAVEL IN THE CITY. WE HAD TO GET A TOW TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT AT THE DEALERSHIP WE BOUGHT THIS FROM SAYS THE THROTTLE POSITIONS SENSOR IS DEFECTIVE AND NEEDS REPLACED AS WELL AS THERE IS A MISFIRE IN THE INJECTORS DUE TO CARBON BUILDUP IN THE FUEL LINE. NONE OF THESE REPAIRS ARE COVERED UNDER THE POWER TRAIN WARRANTY, AND THIS VEHICLE ONLY HAS 50,000 MILES ON IT CURRENTLY. UPON RESEARCH OF THESE PART, SYMPTOMS OF THIS PART GOING OUT ARE STALLED SHIFTING OR HARD SHIFTING, AS WELL AS ROUGH IDLING. ANOTHER ISSUE I HAVE HAD IS THAT MANY TIMES THE TRANSMISSION DOESN'T SHIFT PROPERLY & IT REVS UP MORE THAN IT SHOULD BEFORE ACTUALLY SHIFTING & WHEN IT DOES, THERE IS A MAJOR CLUNK. I HAVE OWNED MANY CARS IN MY LIFETIME, THIS CAR ALWAYS ON STARTUP, MAKES A TERRIBLE NOISE AT FIRST WHICH TO ME SOUNDS LIKE IT'S NOT GETTING ANY OIL OR THAT THE BEARINGS HAVE A PROBLEM. ANOTHER ISSUE I HAVE, AS DO ALL OTHER TERRAIN OWNERS, IS THAT THE STICKER ON THE WINDOW FROM GM WHEN BUYING THIS CAR, STATED THAT THIS CAR WOULD GET 23 MPG CITY, & 32 MPG HIGHWAY. MOST ALL MY MILES ARE HIGHWAY MILES, & THE MOST I EVER GET IS 22 MPG. THIS WAS THE MAIN REASON FOR BUYING THIS CAR IN THE FIRST PLACE. I THINK GM SHOULD BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE FOR THIS GROSSLY MIS-REPRESENTATION OF WHAT I WOULD BE GETTING FOR GAS MILEAGE. I AM NOT THAT WEALTHY WHERE I CAN JUST GO OUT & BUY A NEW CAR EVERY YEAR, BUT AM FEARFUL THAT WITH THE CAR STALLING OUT WHENEVER IT FEELS LIKE, THAT I MAY HAVE AN ACCIDENT. I AM ALSO NOT THRILLED WITH THE NOISE IT MAKE WHEN I START IT, & WONDER HOW LONG BEFORE IT DOESN'T RUN. I NOW HAVE 36,000 MILES ON IT WITH THESE ISSUES, MY LAST VEHICLE THAT I TRADED IN FOR THIS HAD 250,000 TROUBLE FREE MILES. GM NEEDS TO BUY THIS BACK, OR LIFETIME WARRANTY ON MOTOR ALONG WITH FREE GAS TO MAKE UP FOR THE 10 MPG I'M NOT GETTING. *TR

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 GMC TERRAIN. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THERE WAS AN OIL LEAK AND THE VEHICLE SHIFTED ERRATICALLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER SEVERAL TIMES WHERE IT WAS CONFIRMED THAT THERE WAS AN OIL LEAK AND THE THROTTLE BODY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED AND THE TRANSMISSION WAS EVENTUALLY REPLACED BUT BOTH FAILURES RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED ABOUT THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 26,000.

I WAS IN THE DRIVE THRU LINE WITH THE ENGINE RUNNING. WHEN IT WAS TIME TO MOVE FORWARD, I PUT THE TRUCK IN DRIVE AND AS SOON AS MY FOOT HIT THE GAS PEDAL IT STALLED. I STARTED THE ENGINE BACK UP AND TRIED TO DRIVE FORWARD AND THE ENGINE STALLED AGAIN. THIS HAS OCCURRED ABOUT 10 TIMES SINCE I HAVE OWNED THE VEHICLE (IN COLD AND MILD WEATHER). I TOOK IT BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG. *TR

MY TRUCK EXPERIENCED IT'S FIRST PROBLEM IN AUGUST OF 2011. I HAD ONLY HAD MY TRUCK FOR SIX MONTHS. THE TRUCK WAS ENTERING ONTO THE EXPRESSWAY AND AS I WAS PRESSING THE GAS THE TRUCK BEGIN TO STALL. THE REDUCED ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND THE TRUCK DECELERATES AND CUT OFF. WE WERE BLESSED THAT WE WERE ABLE TO GET TO RIGHT SHOULDER OF THE ROAD. WE WAITED ABOUT TEN MINUTES, THE TRUCK FINALLY STARTED AND THE ENGINE LIGHT REMAINED ON. I CONTACTED THE DEALER AND TOOK THE TRUCK IN AS SOON AS I COULD GET AN APPOINTMENT. WAS TOLD THE TRUCK WAS FIXED AND SINCE I HAVE BEEN IN FIVE TIMES FOR THE SAME PROBLEM. THE FACT THAT THE TRUCK DECELERATES WHILE DRIVING ON THE EXPRESSWAY IS ENOUGH THAT I DON'T WANT TO DRIVE THE TRUCK. I HAVE BEEN USING OTHER PEOPLES CARS AND TRUCKS BECAUSE I DON'T WANT TO PUT MINE ON THE EXPRESSWAY OUT OF OWN. IT IS A DEATH TRAP WAITING TO HAPPEN AND ANYONE DRIVING A TERRAIN SHOULD BE MADE AWARE OF THE PROBLEM. THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT DID EVERYTHING POSSIBLE AND HAD TO CONTACT MANUFACTURER ABOUT THE PROBLEM AND THEY COULD NOT NARROW DOWN THE PROBLEM. THEY HAVE REPLACED SO MANY PARTS AT THIS POINT I HAVE LOST TRACK OF THINGS THAT HAVE BEEN REPLACED. THIS TRUCK IS NOT SAFE AND THE PROBLEM IS NOT BEEN RESOLVED. THE CAR STILL IDLES AND SHAKES AND NO ONE PLANS TO FIND OUT WHY AS LONG AS THE ENGINE LIGHT IS NOT ON. NO ONE WANTS TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THIS ISSUE AND IT IS REALLY DISAPPOINTING THAT THE MANUFACTURER WOULD RATHER NOT DEAL WITH THIS PROBLEM AND WAIT FOR A FATALITY TO OCCUR BEFORE LOOKING INTO. YOU WOULD THINK THEY WOULD LEARN FROM TOYOTA AND TAKE CUSTOMERS LIVES SERIOUSLY. WOULD THEY PUT THERE FAMILIES IN THIS TRUCK ? I JUST WANT THEM TO TAKE THE TRUCK BACK BECAUSE I DON'T WANT TO USE MY LIFE AS AN EXAMPLE FOR A DEFECTIVE TRUCK. *TR
