Tensioner issues keeps breaking the timing chain. . Replaced twice at own cost. Fuel pump/ loss of power while driving. Back up camera doesn't work sometimes. Screen goes black. If key is left in the ignition it starts itself. If you try to use a car charger for a phone the AC shuts off and a "systems error" message pops up. This happens alot. It's an ongoing issue since I bought the car in Feburary this year.

I have a 2014 GMC Terrain with less than 70k miles on the vehicle. I took the truck to the mechanic and was advised the power belts were no good. Why is this? The truck has no mileage on it basically for a 2014, I have a 2011 Chevy with more miles than this truck and its power belts are fine. The Mechanic also advised me within the last 3 years, his shop in Cecil County MD has changed over 125 Power Belts on the 2014 GMC Terrain AWD (V6), same vehicle that I have.

On October 13, 2023, I was driving on the highway when my 2014 GMC Terrain power was reduced. Suddenly, the engine light came on and car began throttling. Second, an error message appeared on my dashboard indicating “ engine power is reduced.” Then it stopped in the middle of the highway. I was able to restart my vehicle and drove it to a nearby mechanic shop. The mechanic said the problem was my timing chain and that my vehicle was not drivable. I left my vehicle at the mechanic shop because it was the weekend and It needed it to be towed to the dealership. On Monday, October 16, 2023, I had my vehicle towed to Buick Classic Service Center. After waiting for two days, I received a call from the service center stating that my 2014 GMC Terrain timing chain and pressure gas pump was the cause of the problem - with my vehicle. After, reading other owners similar complaints ; why is there not a recall to address this problem? Now, I am stuck without a vehicle and the company has no idea how long it will take to get the parts needed to fix my vehicle. I was told that the timing chain and a tension is on back order due to the employees of GMC being are on strike.

The contact owns a 2014 GMC Terrain. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle stalled with the check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the timing chain was faulty. The failure caused the engine to consume an excessive amount of engine oil. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 97,000.

Have a 2014 GMC Terrain SLT AWD. Just rolled 81,000 miles. Heard some catching in what I thought was front left tire while turning right. Almost sounded like wire wrapped up. Looked under car didn’t see anything. Continued to drive and began to hear really loud grinding noise. Could smell the car getting hot. Get it to body shop and they have identified the transfer case was blown out for unknown reason. No fluid and gears are just walking around. Caught it before it locked up. Needs new transfer case, when we can even get one. Looking at about $2500 in repairs. Of course just out of extended warranty. This appears to be a common problem and needs to be addressed by GM!

The contact owns a 2014 GMC Terrain. The contact stated while driving 75 MPH, an abnormal popping sound was coming from the vehicle. There was no warning light illuminated. As the noise continued, the vehicle began to hesitate and jerk upon the depression of the accelerator pedal. Despite the failures, the contact was able to drive the vehicle to the dealer where they diagnosed the vehicle with a catastrophic transmission failure. The contact was provided an estimate for a new transmission. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and offered financial assistance for the cost of a new transmission. The contact then spoke with a service director who offered no financial assistance and informed him that he was unaware of when the parts for a new transmission would be available. The vehicle remained in the possession of the dealer and was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 83,000. The contact has stated that the vehicle was repaired by the dealer.

I need my whole engine replaced due, to common oil issues with the vehicle. Thus, it has caused Fuel propulsion issues, and engine trains breaking.

Aug 29, 2021

on line it said that this vehicle was having problems with the timing chain which could break when driving causing damage to motor or worse yet loss of control. I had it to garage and they said the ticking noise is the timing chain. Is gmc recalling the vehicles for this?

Around 76k miles the vehicle started to stall, the engine completely stopped while in drive. The vehicle was burning oil and had terrible gas milage prior to stalling incidents. The first time it stalled was at an intersection with a traffic light, when we went to slow down the engine completely shut down. My infant daughter was in the car with me and it was terrifying. We would have been hit had the light not been turning red. After that we recognized that it typically stalled after starting the car and attempting to accelerate. At times it happened when pulling out of a parking lot onto a busy street and I would loose engine power. This was extremely scary due to not being able to get out of the way of oncoming traffic. I had to put my flashers on and roll to the side of the road where I could restart the car. The engine ran really loud and rough when the issue first started and even after repairs the engine is still loud when first starting from cold. After time the issue persisted and I noticed that after the first start and stall if I revved the engined hard it did not stall a second or third time. Prior to that there were times the vehicle stalled 2-3 times after first start. The first time I took it to a garage (79k) there was a check engine light on and they diagnosed a sensor that needed to be changed. The problem persisted after the sensor was changed. I contacted another local garage who said there are known engine issues with this make and model and they wouldn't touch it and suggested taking it to the dealer. The dealer said they are familiar with this issue and the engine needed to be rebuilt for $4500. This was quite a shock given the car only had 88k miles on it at the time we contacted the dealer. After the dealer repairs the engine no longer stalls. Recalls on this model only go through 2013. The date on my radio resets to October 13, 2013 when the battery is disconnected so it seems this issue is persisting in models not included in the lawsuit.

Car is burning oil excessively and the timing chain is loose putting the vehicle is reduced power mode. The timing chain was replaced at 40,000 miles and now it needs to be replaced again and the car only has 87,000 miles. I bought it with 70,000 miles on it. Someone needs to do a recall on these engines

I AM HAVING AN ISSUE WITH THE OIL IS BURNING AND IT IS CAUSING OTHER COMPONENTS TO GO BAD ON MY CAR LIKE THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER . AND IT IS BURNING OUT AND I HAVE TO CONTINUE TO PUT OIL IN THE CAR... I HAVE RESEARCH AND I SEE THAT ALL THESE MODELS IS HAVING ISSUES WITH THE BURNING OF THE OIL. *TR

MY 2014 TERRAIN STALLED OUT AT A STOP SIGN. I RESTARTED THE TRUCK AND WAS IT MADE A NOISE AS THOUGH SOMETHING WAS WRONG WITH A BELT. I WENT AROUND THE BLOCK AND IT STALLED OUT 3 MORE TIMES. I BACKED IT INTO MY DRIVEWAY AND NOTICED ALL OF THE OIL ON THE GROUND. I HAD THE TRUCK PUT ON A FLATBED AND TOWED TO THE DEALER. ACCORDING TO THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT, THE REAR MASTER SEAL BLEW. SOMEHOW, AS EXPLAINED TO ME, WATER GETS INTO THE ENGINE AND FREEZES. THIS CAUSES PRESSURE AND THAT IS THE CAUSE OF THE DAMAGE. MY TERRAIN TURNED 5 YRS OLD ON 11/21/19 WITH ONLY 50,249 MILES. I AM VERY DISAPPOINTED. I HAVE ALWAYS OWNED A GM VEHICLE AND HAVE NEVER HAD A PROBLEM UNTIL NOW. THE WARRANTY DOES NOT COVER SINCE IT IS 5 YRS OLD AND I AM OUT $3,000 FOR REPAIRS. I DON'T EVEN HAVE THE TRUCK PAID OFF YET. THERE HAS NOT BEEN A RECALL OR POLICY/WARRANTY WAIVER.

2014 GMC TERRAIN WITH 66,000 MILES STALLING OUT WHEN SLOWING/STOPPING, LOW ACCELERATION, LOUD ENGINE. DEALER SAYS OIL IS LOW WHEN IT WAS JUST REPLACED 2 MONTHS (2,700 MILES) AGO. CANNOT DETERMINE WHY VEHICLE IS CONSUMING MORE OIL THAN WHAT GM ALLOWS.

1) BRAKES HAVE ALWAYS RUBBED & GRABBED REALLY HARD WHEN APPLIED. ALMOST LIKE THEY ARE DEFECTIVE ROTORS. HARD TO STOP FAST. I NOTICE THEY RECALLED A LOT OF THEIR BRAKES, BUT NOT MINE. 2). TRANSMISSION JERKS & SHIFTS VERY VIOLENTLY @ 16 & 17 MILES PER HOUR. SEEMS TO SLIP & NOT SHIFT @ THAT SPEED REALLY ROUGH. HAS ALWAYS DONE THIS. 3) SOMETIMES THE COLLISION ALERT GOES OFF & THERE IS NOTHING AROUND I LIVE IN THE COUNTRY & HAVE NO TRAFFIC IT WILL JUST GO OFF SCARES THE CRAP OUT OF YOU & STARTLES ME. I SAW ANOTHER PERSON HAD THIS HAPPEN ALSO ALL SITUATIONS ARE IN MOTION WHILE DRIVING. BIGGEST CONCERNS ARE THE TRANSMISSION & BRAKES. 4) OKAY SEATS ARE SUPPOSED TO BE LEATHER HOWEVER, THEY WENT CHEAPY ON THE SIDES. IT CRACKED & CONTINUES TO CRACK & TEAR BECAUSE THE SIDES ARE VINYL. THIS STARTED TO HAPPEN @ APPROXIMATELY 3,000 MILES. I ONLY HAVE 32,000 MILES ON IT. I DON'T DRIVE MUCH.

VEHICLE WITH ONLY 75,00 MILES, RUNS ROUGH AND STALLS, WENT TO DEALER AND THEY SAY DUE TO LOW OIL AT SOME POINT THE TIMING CHAIN HAS STRETCHED AND NEEDS REPLACED ALONG WITH SENSORS AND ACTUATORS. TIMING CHAIN AND ASSOCIATED PARTS REPLACED TO THE TUNE OF $1715.00. I CHECK THE OIL AND THE DEALERSHIP HAS BEEN CHANGING IT. THIS LOOKS TO BE A FACTORY DEFECT. I HAVE SENT A LETTER TO GM FOR RESOLUTION AS WELL.

MY 2014 GMC TERRAIN HAS STALLED ON ME 11 TIMES. I CANNOT MAKE ANY RHYME OR REASON OUT OF IT. IT WILL STALL AFTER A 10 MILE DRIVE, IT WILL STALL AFTER A 2 MILES DRIVE. THE STALLS SEEM TO HAPPEN WHEN I AM COMING FROM A STOP, LIKE WHEN I STOP TO PUT MY CAR IN REVERSE TO BACK INTO MY GARAGE. OR WHEN I STOP AT A LIGHT OR STOP SIGN. EACH TIME THE CAR STARTS AGAIN, BUT RIDES REALLY ROUGHLY. AT STOP SIGNS AND STOP LIGHTS I FEEL THE CAR START TO TREMOR, SO I PUT THE CAR IN NEUTRAL AND CROSS MY FINGERS. I NEED TO KEEP MY FOOT ON THE GAS TO KEEP IT RUNNING. THIS IS JUST UNSAFE TO DRIVE A CAR LIKE THIS. THIS STARTED ABOUT 6 WEEKS AGO, AND NOW IT HAPPENED 3 TIMES THIS PAST WEEKEND.

I'VE TOOK IT TO CAR SHOP AND THEY SAID IT'S BURNING OIL. I HAVE TO GET OIL CHANGES EVERY 2500 MILES, AND IT'S LOW AFTER 2 WEEKS. I'VE CONSTANTLY ADDING OIL AND CHECK IT BETWEEN OIL CHANGES. THIS IS MY FIRST GMC AND I'M NOT TOO HAPPY ABOUT THIS ISSUE I'M HAVING. 104561 MILEAGE AND ENGINE LIGHT JUST CAME ON THIS WEEK. I'M VERY SCARE AND I CAN'T AFFORD ANOTHER ENGINE. IT'S TICKING LOUD AND MAKES NOISE WHEN I ACCELERATE. I ONLY WORK LESS THAN 5 MILES FROM HOME AND THIS IS JUST CRAZY.

VEHICLE VIOLENTLY SHIFTS IN LOW SPEED GEAR SHIFTING OUT OF FIRST AND SECOND GEARS. THIS OCCURS IN BOTH WARM AND COLD TEMPERATURES. ALWAYS WHEN SHIFTING AT LOWER SPEEDS UNDER 20 MPH. THIS HAS BEEN A REPEATED ISSUE WITH THE VEHICLE.

OIL CONSUMPTION TESTING BEGAN 6/12 A WEEK LATER CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME OUT. BROUGHT MY TERRAIN BACK TO GMC FOR THEM TO TELL ME THAT THE TIMING CHAIN NEEDS TO BE REPLACED DUE TO THE OIL CONSUMPTION PROBLEMS. HAVING SEVERAL PROBLEMS SINCE SUCH AS JERKING, AND STALLING THAT I DID EXPRESS TO GMC OVER THE PAST COUPLE WEEKS, WHICH IS DUE TO THE EXCESSIVE OIL CONSUMPTION. STILL WAITING TO HEAR FROM THE GMC TO GET MY SUV FIXED ALMOST 40 PLUS DAYS LATER

I JUST HIT 105K ON MY VEHICLE AND THE INTAKE CAMSHAFT POSITION TIMING IS CAUSING MY SUV TO SHUT OFF WHILE STOPPED. I WAS PULLED HALFWAY INTO A MAJOR HIGHWAY WHEN THE LIGHT TURNED GREEN I WENT TO TAKE OFF AND THE ENGINE DIED. I TRIED TO SEE IF THERE WAS MAYBE A RECALL BUT I DID NOT FIND ONE FOR MY VIN NUMBER. ANYONE ELSE'S CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COMING ON AND THROWING THIS CODE?

I ALSO NOTICE THAT WHEN DRIVING AT NIGHT THAT THE HEAD LIGHTS ARE NOT MADE TO SEE STREET NAME SIGNS I HAVE TO USE THE HIGH BEAMS TO SEE IF I HAVE THE RIGHT STREET WHEN LOOKING FOR THE PLACE I HAVE TO GO.

IN OCTOBER 2015, I WAS DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE IN A RURAL AREA, AND ACCELERATED TO PASS ANOTHER VEHICLE. MY PASSING SPEED WAS APPROXIMATELY 80 MPH. I MERGED BACK INTO THE RIGHT LANE AFTER PASSING, AND LET MY FOOT OFF THE GAS. CRUISE CONTROL WAS NOT ENGAGED. THE CAR CONTINUED AT THE PASSING SPEED, AND STARTED TO INCREASE IN SPEED. I WAITED A FEW SECONDS TO SEE WHAT WOULD HAPPEN BEFORE TAKING EVASIVE ACTION; AS THERE WERE NO OTHER CARS ON THE HIGHWAY AT THIS POINT. FOR 4-5 SECONDS THIS CONTINUED. I TAPPED THE BRAKE AND NO CHANGE WAS DETECTED. I THEN TAPPED THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL; AND THE SPEED DISENGAGED. VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO DEALER; DIAGNOSTIC WAS RUN AND THEY COULD NOT DETECT A PROBLEM. DEALER WAS OF THE OPINION THAT THIS EVENT HAD SOMETHING TO DO WITH THE DRIVE TRAIN, THEY DROVE THE CAR BUT WERE UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. THIS ALL SEEMED TO INDICATE THAT CRUISE CONTROL WAS ON; HOWEVER I AM SURE IT WAS NOT.

DRIVER HAD STOPPED AT STOP SIGN ON THE EXIT RAMP AND AS SHE BEGAN TO ACCELERATE TO CROSSOVER TO APPROPRIATE LANE THE CAR STALLED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD, REDUCED ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON, AND CHECK STABILITY LIGHT LIT. THIS WAS IN A VERY DANGEROUS LOCATION AS THE SIDE ROAD THE DRIVER WAS LOCATED WAS AT THE BOTTOM OF A HILL, SO ONCOMING TRAFFIC WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN ABLE TO STOP AND IT WOULD HAVE BEEN A T-BONE HIT FOR THE DRIVER AND HEAD ON FOR THE ONCOMING VEHICLE. THE CAR SLOWLY (VERY, VERY SLOWLY) MOVED FORWARD ENOUGH TO FINALLY GET ACROSS STREET AND TO A SAFE PLACE. ALTHOUGH NO ACCIDENTS OR INJURIES OCCURRED, IT WAS BY THE GRACE OF GOD THAT NO TRAFFIC WAS COMING OVER THE HILL. THIS HAD THE POTENTIAL AND HAS THE POTENTIAL OF BEING A DEADLY PROBLEM IF IT OCCURS AGAIN OR IF ANOTHER VEHICLE HAS THE SAME ISSUE. IMMEDIATELY HAD TOW TRUCK PICK UP CAR AND TAKE TO GMC DEALERSHIP. I AM AWAITING THE RESULTS FROM THE DEALERSHIP. MY WORK REQUIRES A LOT OF TRAVEL AND NOW I DO NOT FEEL SAFE IN THIS CAR WITH THIS ISSUE (WHICH AFTER RESEARCH TODAY SEEMS TO HAPPEN A LOT IN GMC VEHICLES. ) *TR
