April 2025, Vacuum Pump went out meaning lost breaks going 60 miles per hour down the road after engine light came on. Left me and two children stranded 2 hours from home with no way to get back except a tow. Now September 2025 Cam Shafts are out as well as Vacuum Pump. Stranded boyfriend and I two hours away again. Now metal in oil and warranty is not willing to cover it due to the vacuum pump going out. Made a post on Facebook and got lots of feedback on how their newer terrains have done the same things. Work in insurance and have people car pertaining to their terrains wondering if we cover engine replacements. There is major issues with these vehicle. Mine only has 107,000 miles on it and I have 12,000 left to pay. The motor is shot and dealership wants to “flush” the metal out of the engine. Very frustrated, I put 12,000 out of my college fund to have a reliable vehicle for my two kids and now this is all I have. A car that doesn’t run. I called warranty and the man I talked to even said that they get a lot of calls for these cars needing to be fixed. I am at a loss on what to do now. The below information about the incident is for the most recent one happening in September. I know that this sounds like a warranty and dealership issue but I guaranty if you send something out to terrain owners they will report major issues that they have had. Leaving them stuck in loans and no where to go.

Difficulty with power assistive braking when traveling at low speeds

Jul 14, 2025

Component Affected: Service Brakes, Hydraulic – Brake Vacuum Pump Summary of the Problem: I am reporting a serious safety issue involving the brake vacuum pump on my 2018 GMC Terrain. The brake pump failed catastrophically ("blew up"), resulting in a sudden loss of braking power. This occurred without warning and posed a significant risk to my safety and others on the road. We were traveling to vacation in Florida and thankfully had just gotten off the interstate. Details: The failure caused the brake pedal to become extremely hard to press, and the vehicle required a much longer distance to stop. We experienced no brake at the brake booster and a blown vacuum pump is due to a faulty vacuum pump which is a known issue for this model. Fortunately, no accident occurred, but the situation could have easily led to a collision. A certified mechanic confirmed that the brake vacuum pump exploded and needs to be replaced. I have incurred significant out-of-pocket repair costs due to this issue. We had to uber to our vacation room, get Walmart Plus to have groceries delivered to our room. We had to have Uber Eats deliver other supplies. We have had to walk to various places for dinner and entertainment because Avis and Budget had no vehicles available to rent and Enterprise was closed as we arrived on Saturday afternoon. I have checked for recalls and service bulletins using my VIN, but none are currently listed for this specific issue, despite similar problems being reported in other GM vehicles. Request: I urge the NHTSA to investigate this issue further. The failure of a critical braking component without warning is a serious safety concern. I believe this may be part of a broader pattern of brake system failures in GM vehicles and should be addressed through a recall or safety campaign. Also, the estimate for the repair is $2,500 so any reimbursement would be greatly appreciated. We just received this estimate but I can provide it at a later date.

My car started experiencing a strange problem while braking on June 15. I released the parking brake leaving my parents driveway. I coasted backwards (as usual), and when I pressed the brake the car didn't stop as expected and the brake pedal was very hard to press. It eventually stopped. I put into park, then put the emergency brake on, then released all and tried again and encountered the same issue, that it was very very slow to stop and the brake pedal was hard to push in. I got home, parked the car - tested the reverse brake on flat surface and didn't notice the issue. The next day, the problem started happening with the front brake as well and an error code popped up that said 'check brake assist' which I've never seen before. I brought it to my local mechanic, who took a look and said that it's a vacuum pump failure, and the result is a lot of metal shards were released into the engine when the vacuum pump failed. My mechanic recommended I take to a GMC dealer for further evaluation. I looked up the recall on this issue, and see that it impacts a lot cars, including the 2017 GMC terrain, but not my 2018 GMC terrain. I am going to take it to the GMC dealer but I'm afraid I won't be able to afford the repair, and it doesn't seem like there was anything I could have done to prevent this from happening.

Brake booster went out and lost all braking ability on interstate doing 65 mph in spring of 2022 - had brake booster and exhaust cam replaced and April 20 2025 same break and same effect - no braking ability at interstate speed - extremely dangerous situation

Feb 18, 2025

Brake vacuum pump failed causing engine damage. Camshaft on national back order. Vehicle has been in repair shop for 1.5 months waiting on part. No ETA. There has been recall for similar vehicles with same issue, failure, damage. But not for this VIN. It’s the same failure with same damage. How is this not a recall for this VIN?

Jan 23, 2025

I was slowing down to turn and I couldn't push my brake pedal down it completely locked up. If I wasn't already slowing down I would've hit a power pole and potentially lost my life. My ABS light never came on and it's still not on. After I got parked and shut my car off the check engine light came on.

Dec 31, 2024

Faulty Brake Vacuum Pump triggered my brake to get stuck while I was driving ended on the side of the express way to avoid traffic and prevent a crash.

I got my car out of the shop a week ago for my brakes the car was in the shop for a month and this past weekend my car is doing the same exact thing a week later I was on I 75 also hit a semi truck

Dec 11, 2024

I have a 2018 Terrain SLT. On 11/20/24, I was headed home from my commute to work driving my terrain with all the confidence in the world because I hadn't had any major issue with it. In 5pm stop and go traffic I decided on another route to my son's school to pick him up from practice. As the light at the end of the bridge turned red, I proceeded to stop, and my brake pedal was as stiff as stone. Going across that bridge I was literally standing up on the brake pedal with my back and shoulder against the roof of the truck for support trying to stop. As I came close to the cars that had already stopped I contemplated jumping out of the car but I decided to keep at it. It was God and God alone that cleared a shoulder for me to be able to pull over. I was petrified!! No signs, no brake noises, no hesitations, nothing! No warning lights on the dash, no alerts, NOTHING! Brakes were just gone! The mechanic said the vacuum pump had exploded and it was a known issue with terrains and that there was a bulletin regarding this. Pieces of the metal from the exploded vacuum pump were found inside of the engine. The mechanic was upset about the event and said to notify GM, something needed to be done about it. He gave me the vacuum pump to show the GM service center and he said one of the mechanics took pics of the metal in the engine. I called GM and was told to bring it in to a GM service shop so that they could check it out, but at my expense because the manufacturer warranty had expired. I AM SO UPSET WITH GM!! I have anxiety every time I go to press the brake! Panic attacks thinking about the possibility of this happening with my kids/elderly parents in tow. Thank God for covering me and all the drivers and their families that could have been hurt. Thank God my son/elderly parents weren't in the car! The fact that this is a known issue and it hasn't been addressed is heartbreaking. GM should do the right thing and recall these trucks, asap.

Dec 2, 2024

The vacuum pump exploded and I lost power braking ability while going approx. 40mph. If I hadn't pressed down hard on the brakes to slow down, in less than 2 minutes I would have ended up in Lake Michigan, as I was heading east toward the on ramp for [XXX]. The problem has been confirmed by European US Auto here in Chicago, and I have photos. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

Oct 4, 2024

While driving the vehicle the vacuum pump failed and caused the camshaft to seize and physically break which caused the break peddle to become hard and breaking the vehicle was limited and almost nonexistent, which caused an extremely dangerous situation on the highway.

Sep 26, 2024

In 2022 and now in sept of 2024 my entire braking system has failed. Cause you a complete in abilty to stop the vehicle. Upon this failure without any warning peice of the braking system connected to the engine shoots shrapnel into my engine and causes the cam to be destroyed. Now I can't get my car back because of a shortage on this part.

Aug 23, 2024

Brake pump keeps going changed in the last 2 week and over in the last 2 yrs 3xs and burning oil.brakes get hard while driving which is dangerous.

Jul 25, 2024

The vacuum pump gears for the brake assist was shattered and metal parts were sent into the engine. I lost power brakes and was lucky to be able to stop the suv. The car was towed to a GMC dealer where it was diagnosed with a damaged exhaust cam, a shattered vacuum pump and metal pieces in the motor. Cost to fix $3200. This is a 2018 GMC Terrain with 112000 miles on it. I had a powertrane plus warrenty that was still valid but they refused to pay for anything. They claimed the vacuum pump caused the problem and it was not the engines fault. There were no warning check engine lights before this happened.

Jun 12, 2024

Vacuum pump is in the shop now being replaced for the 7th time in almost 6 years. The previous one was replaced in September 2023. You get no warning signs, then all of a sudden you can barely press down on the brake pedal. This started within the 1st year of purchase.

May 16, 2024

I was driving down the highway between 65 and 70 MPH. The semi-truck in front of me almost missed his turn and stopped quickly to make a 90 degree turn off the highway. I went to slow my vehicle appropriately, and my brakes did not respond. I had no warning that my brakes were compromised. I quickly used the downshift button to use my engine to slow me down and I crashed my vehicle off the road into the sagebrush (luckily no trees and there wasn't a dramatic drop off). At that time, after my vehicle came to a stop, I received a warning on my dash that stated "service brake assist". I looked up the issue on my phone to see what may have happened, and read that GMC had a recall for this very issue. I contacted the dealership and they indicated that they were aware that the 2018 GMC Terrain has this issue, but it was not included in the recall. I am traumatized by this incident. I am a very experienced driver, but I had bought this vehicle for my daughter, had she been driving, this would have been a catastrophic accident. I have nightmares about if this had failed when approaching a crosswalk or in a school zone. If GMC is aware of the problem, and they had a full recall on this on other models with this same problem, why aren't they fixing the Terrain, why are they waiting for a fatality. It is unacceptable, dangerous, and I don't even want to know what the cost is going to be to repair the vehicle. I am thankful it wasn't much worse.

May 13, 2024

Safety was put at risk when brakes went out without warning, and unable to use emergency brake at that time. Car was serviced for over $1700, with the mechanics stating that the piece “blew up.”

May 7, 2024

The brakes stop working, they get really stiff and locks in the middle of the highway, very hard to stop and almost caused an accident, it is not the first time, the vehicle was serviced by an authorized mechanic and the problem had been resolved until today, the brakes locked and almost caused me to loose control of the vehicles brake system.

Apr 4, 2024

While driving on the interstate the brakes all the sudden stopped working. I was able to stop the vehicle by pulling over to the shoulder of the road. I received a warning saying service brake assist and a check engine light after the brakes went out. The vehicle later shut off and is no start with no warning codes. I am currently towing the vehicle to a mechanic. Several people claim to have the same issue online stating that it is an issue with the brake vacuum booster shearing off in the exhaust cam which then causes major damage to the engine. It appears the same issue exists with several other GMC models that were already recalled

Apr 4, 2024

We were driving back from vacation and while on I-95 the brakes went out. The check engine light came on and the service brake assist light came on. My husband was able to pull off to the side of the road but if it weren’t for already starting to slow down due to an accident we were approaching this could have been much worse. When the brakes went out my husband could hardly press the brake peddle. After researching this appears to be a known issue amongst GM vehicles. It appears to be the vacuum pump that went out. There is an open recall for certain models of GM but not all. This was such a dangerous situation. We literally could have died. This should be a recall for all models as Terrains appear to be largely affected as well from this issue.

Mar 31, 2024

While driving truck around 55mph with family in vehicle and tried to make a stop in a traffic light, notice truck had a hard brake pedal and did not stop, luckily I (Parent) around [XXX] of age was able to divert around and put on neutral until truck stoped in side of road. After a while of looking around and checking truck for system errors or lights there was no indication not warnings. i was able to move truck to a near by location and asked a mechanic to go look at it. Mechanic notice oil coming out of brake vacuum pump and took out part and mentioned that the pump had broken in pieces inside engine block and might need a replacement. Truck is still on shop and waiting for our decision to fix. At this point my family is so scared of this truck and don't even want to talk about the incident. Me as a parent is very concern on all this new vehicles that are suppose to be more reliable and better protection than older vehicles , i feel more protected in my 90’s truck. I hope this gets enough attention to at least save someone's life. Thanks in advance, [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

Vacuum pump failure which leads to total engine repair

Mar 3, 2024

I was driving and my brakes seized up. Could not apply pressure at all. This could have caused serious injury to myself and my daughter as we were driving alone 3 hours from home. I was able to get into a parking lot but now my car won't start.

Jan 18, 2024

My vehicle keeps showing “service brake assist” and “service TSC” lights. I was on a hill and the auto-start was engaged, as well as hill assist. When I let off the brake pedal slightly to get the car to come out of auto-start, the car acted like it completely shut off (radio went black and lost power) and the car just started rolling backwards quickly. If there was a vehicle behind me it would’ve %100 caused an accident. My wife and child ride in this car every day and this is the second time I’ve had serious issues with this car. The first time I was driving down the interstate and the brake vaccuum pump went out and I lost all brakes, I had to put all 180lbs of my weight on the brake pedal to get it to stop.

Jan 15, 2024

Vehicle brakes went completely hard and vehicle would not stop. There was no warning signs, no lights on the dash and vehicle was driving on highway normally. Upon taking a highway exit, I could not stop the vehicle, completely unexpectedly. Upon further research it is a very common problem that needs to be addressed. My 3 kids and wife were in the vehicle when it happened, and this is actually the second time it has happened. The first time it happened we could not stop the vehicle at all to turn onto the road I live on, could barely push the brake pedal and coast to a stop. The repair last time it happened was the camshaft driven brake booster vacuum pump, and it has failed again after 20,000 miles. This is a serious manufacturer defect that has almost killed my family twice now.

Dec 3, 2023

While driving down the road at approximately 55 mph, came up to an intersection, 4 Lane I was in the right lane to go straight, there was a right turn lane next to me. I applied the brakes, pedal was really stiff and very slow to respond, I was able to edge over into the turn lane cutting people off and just barely missing the vehicles in front of me. It took 5 car lengths to stop my vehicle. When I finally was able to get the vehicle fully stopped I was almost in the paths of the crossing traffic.. when the light turned green I was able to slowly cross the intersection looking for a safe place to pull over. Immediately crossing the intersection the Service Brake Assist notification appeared, about another half mile the vehicle informed me of loss of power and that it was reducing engine power (limp mode). I was able to find a gas station parking lot to put it. When I opened the hood I noticed quite a bit of engine oil located under where the brake assist pump was located. I had lost about 1.5 quarts of oil. I refilled that. The next day I returned with a tow dolly. The vehicle was started just long enough to load and unload it at home. We pulled the vacuum pump where upon inspection it was noticed that the part has exploded and so far we are still missing some pieces that may be inside the engine. This is a known and documented problem of this part and should have a safety recall issued. . I still owe over twenty eight thousand on this vehicle and it has only 109,000 miles on it. I hope we can find all the pieces and that the engine wasn't fately harmed. GMC needs to make this right, a lot of people could have been harmed.

The contact owns a 2018 GMC Terrain. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 35 MPH going over a hill, the brake pedal was depressed but was firm and failed to depress as needed. The engine power reduced message was displayed and flashed on and then off. The brake assist warning light was illuminated. The service transmission message was displayed. The contact continued to depress the brake pedal until the vehicle responded as needed. The driver was able to pull into a parking lot, and the vehicle rolled to a stop. While driving, the engine misfired. Additionally, the vehicle failed to fully shutoff. The vehicle was towed to the local dealer, where it was diagnosed that the brakes had locked up and that the vacuum pump needed to be replaced. The contact was also informed that the cam shaft had fractured inside the engine. Additionally, the fuel injector, fuel line, and fuel pump needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 19V645000 (Service Brakes, Hydraulic) and 23V013000 (Fuel System, Gasoline). The manufacturer was contacted, and the contact was informed that the VIN was under recall. The failure mileage was approximately 30,000.

On 9/3/23 I was travelling down interstate 94 in Illinois when all of a sudden my check engine light came on. Not knowing what the issue was, but knowing that the car still seemed to be OK and I was only a few miles from home I decided to drive home and figure out the issue from there. At this point I had no idea that the brakes had completely locked up. Once I realized what was happening I did my best to slow the vehicle down by decelerating, frantically pumping on the locked up brakes, and then finally slowing enough to take an exit and roll in to a gas station. Frankly, it was the most terrifying moment of my life travelling 70 MPH without the ability to stop. Upon inspection, the independent service tech informed us that the vacuum pump had exploded (yes, exploded) and that he had never seen anything like it, especially in a car with less than 70,000 miles. What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? The vacuum pump failed and unfortunately it completely exploded so there were only a few pieces left inside of the engine. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? My brakes locked up completely on the interstate, with my family in the car, and I was unable to stop. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? Yes. The independent service center where I currently have the vehicle has confirmed, and spoken with GM. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? No, GMC refuses to do anything about it even though there is a prior recall for the same part on other GMC vehicles during the same time frame. I'm told it's the exact same part. Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? Yes, roughly 1 minute prior to the breaks locking up the "check engine" light came on.

Jul 31, 2023

Driving on highway and all of a sudden I could not break - the car breaks failed to operate - had to slowdown by it self and pull to a McDonalds, I had the loss of effective braking with no warning whatsoever. We found out that the Break Booster Pump was destroyed without any warning from the electronics of the SUV.

Jul 28, 2023

Last year this time brakes went out at 50 mph power brake module imploded from inside out. The part was on national back order. Second incident car stopped immediately while traveling 40 mph no warnings or anything both incidents could of been horrible . Not sure on second incident the issue yet car is in shop. Both incidents are safety concerns for myself and others. Driving at average speeds and something malfunctioning is a great concern of mine. I contacted GMC no one to talk too just chat and the person on the other side told me it was no concern of theirs all was dumbfounded by the conversation but until I said I was putting on social media and bringing to everyone attention her entire tune changed in regards to part and service. So I researched locally and luckily I found the part they had one left and I was told by dealer that it is an issue on these vehicles. Both safety incidents have been within a year of each other 2022 and 2023

Jul 19, 2023

The vacuum pump started leaking and the car was parked immediately. When The pump was pulled out to be replaced, the reason for the leak was identified. The vacuum pump had busted into small pieces which are now in the engine.

The contact owns a 2018 GMC Terrain. The contact stated while driving 45 MPH, the check engine warning light illuminated. The contact stated while making a left turn the brake pedal was depressed but failed to stop the vehicle. The contact was able to continue driving without proper braking response to her residence. The contact stated she used the parking brake to fully stop the vehicle. The contact's husband took the vehicle to the local dealer, where it was diagnosed with needing an unknown pipe and vacuum pump to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer had not been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 79,000.

Driving home from our local town 4/15/2023, the brake pedal became to hard to push down. Check engine light came on as I got to my driveway, and that is 1 mile from the main road. My kids were scared to tears as was my girlfriend. Run a scan and dtc p0557. Come to find the vacuum pump on the top drivers side of motor is the part that is bad it broke inside the valve cover. Looking up the issue and find out it is a known problem and no recall. I have kept the parts and all receipts for the repairs, I have to do myself cause the repairs are way to much for me to pay out of pocket. This is a serious issue for this car and year and GMC needs to address the issue. Why has nothing been done yet??? I am making payments on this car with no warranty for the car so I'm stuck fixing the car. But GMC knows that this is a problem and does nothing?!? I remember when American cars were good cars what happened to that time ?? And what happened to company's being responsible for the product they put out to customers? Guess that time is gone, I won't buy another American car again, unless it's a old Detroit built car.

Jan 3, 2023

I was coming to a stop with my vehicle and the brakes would not work. I carefully got my car home and to a shop. It was determined that the break booster pump broke which caused metal parts to go into the engine. Now my engine is blown! Bought my car brand new in 2018 and kept up with regular vehicle maintenance has 90k miles.

Oct 14, 2022

Brakes go to floor an brake peddle starts to vibrate, (lost of brakes ) Brake assist light comes on. Vehicle has 27000 miles . Problem started at 6000 miles an was brought to GMC service centers 3 times for same issue. They replaced 3 different parts at a total cost of1600 dollars. Brake system is being replaced one part at a time at my expense, GMC has no clue what problem is. Will not admit there is an issue? Just got vehicle back for 3rd time an 3rd new part .

Sep 12, 2022

Vehicle stuck in emergency assist mood. Without warning I couldn't slow down/stop without putting alot of my weight on the brake breaks were so hard to press down.

Sep 6, 2022

When trying to brake, brake pedal became extremely hard to push and Repair brake assist notification and check engine light came on

Sep 4, 2022

Vacuum pump went out brakes hard to push and I know gmc had a recall for this issue on other vehicles as well previously.

Aug 29, 2022

Brake has to be pushed all the way down HARD to stop, brake assist warning comes up. I’ve had the car for less than 2 years and it’s way too new for anything to go out. Undriveable unless it’s fixed.

Aug 1, 2022

While getting off the interstate, the brakes failed with no prior warning, or issues. The brake pedal became extremely difficult to depress and stopping distance was greatly increased. Could not come to a complete stop without using the emergency brake. We drove home (about 2 miles from the interstate exit) and about a half mile after the brake failure, a "service brake assist" light illuminated. Vehicle was towed to dealership the next morning. The problem was the vacuum pump exploded and caused vacuum to the brake booster to be lost, making the pedal difficult to push. Luckily this happened at 11pm and there was nobody in front of us, there definitely would have been a collision.

Jun 3, 2022

6/3/22 I went to the grocery store which is on a four lane road. When I left the store I had no brakes. On a four lane stop and go road. The was no warning just nothing peddle to the floor and now check engine light is on. I am reading this same problem repeatedly. I love this car but this is a serious hazard and needs to be addressed. We are all driving around practically rear ending people. I was an inch from the guy in front of me thank God the light changed as I was coming up on him or I would have hit him.

May 31, 2022

I was driving out of town (2 hrs from home) with my 2 small children and my mother, when I tried to slow to come to a stop my breaks did not work and I almost rear ended someone. It was sudden, there were no signs that my breaks were going to mess up. When I tried to look up recalls, there were none for my vehicle BUT there were MANY statements of people who drove gmc or gm vehicles that had the same issue with the vacuum boost for the brakes around 50k miles where the breaks just quit or were hard to use. It seems to be a common issue and is VERY unsafe. I cannot afford to fix the issue and I don't feel as though I should have to if other terrains have been recalled, except mine which I do not understand.

The contact owns a 2018 GMC Terrain. The contact stated that while her husband was driving 50 MPH, the brake pedal was depressed and went to the floorboard. The service brake assist warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer nor independent mechanic to be diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 69,000.

The brakes are extremely hard to engage while driving. All 4 rotors are pitted with less than 30k miles. Doing some online research this is a common problem and should be addressed. I just did my first set of brakes at 100,000 miles on my truck.

Oct 17, 2021

The vehicle experienced a sudden loss of braking and displayed a “brake assist “ fault message. The check engine light has illuminated. The sudden loss of braking was in a residential neighborhood traveling at 35 mph. I was turning during the loss of braking and was able to narrowly avoid collision with the cars at the intersection because I could not slow to a safe speed. The fault codes have not been read by the dealership yet nor has the repair been completed.

Jun 1, 2021

The "Service Brake Assist" issue in other 2018 GMC SUVs is happening in the 2018 GMC Terrain, but it is not part of the recall. Our brakes became EXTREMELY difficult to press right as we were turning onto the on ramp of an expressway. Thankfully we were smart enough to pull over and not get on the highway. Had we done so, I may not have been here to type this complaint. The brakes be come extremely difficult to press and that message shows. Dealership is going to charge me $400 to replace a vacuum pump - they were not interested in the information I have around this issue in other GMC SUVs since it isn't a formal recall on the Terrain. I could have died yesterday due to this braking issue. I've owned this car for 3 months.

THESE WARNINGS WERE ASSOCIATED WITH BRAKE FAILURE IN GM SUV'S AND PICKUPS AND WERE SUBJECT TO A RECALL. NO SUCH RECALL EXISTS FOR THE TERRAIN. I PURCHASED A BRAND NEW 2018 GMC TERRAIN (VIN NO. [XXX]) TWO YEARS AGO. THE VEHICLE HAS APPROXIMATELY 50,000 MILES ON IT. ON AUGUST 6, 2020, MY HUSBAND AND I WERE TRAVELING WITH OUR 2-YEAR-OLD SON TO ATTEND AN OUT-OF-STATE FUNERAL. TRAVELING AROUND 75 MPH ON THE HIGHWAY, THE BRAKES FAILED US. THE PEDAL BECAME ENTIRELY STIFF MAKING IT NEARLY IMPOSSIBLE TO SLOW DOWN AND STOP. IT TOOK CONSIDERABLE FORCE TO BRING THE VEHICLE TO A STOP. REMIND YOU, I WAS TRAVELING WITH MY 2-YEAR-OLD SON. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6). *TR

MY 2018 TERRAIN HAS 51138 MILES. WHILE DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE MY BRAKE SYSTEM LOCKED AND I WAS UNABLE TO STOP. I HAD TO COAST TO A SAFE SPEED AND PULL MY PARK BRAKE TO COME TO A STOP. BECAUSE MY BUMPER TO BUMPER WARRANTY IS OUT THE DEALERSHIP IS CHARGING ME. THE VACUUM PUMP IS OUT. EVEN THE TECHNICIAN ACKNOWLEDGED THE PART WAS DEFECTIVE AND ACKNOWLEDGED IT HAPPENED REALLY EARLY ON IN MY VEHICLES MILEAGE BUT IS STILL SAYING IT IS MY COST TO REPLACE. I ASKED REPEATEDLY FOR THE PART NUMBER SO I COULD COMPARE THAT PART NUMBER TO THE PART THAT WAS RECALLED ON THE 2018 GMC TRUCKS AND THE DEALERSHIP AND GM REFUSED TO GIVE ME THE PART NUMBER. *TR

BOUGHT BRAND NEW. AT 14,000 MILES ALL 4 ROTORS ARE PITTED WITH GROOVES. DEALER TOOK THEM APART AND FOUND NOTHING THAT COULD CAUSE IT. SAID THEY WERE "WEATHERED". TOOK IT TO 2 OTHER PLACES AND SAID IT WAS A MANUFACTURE DEFECT. DEALER WONT REPLACE BECAUSE BUMPER TO BUMPER WONT COVER IT. ITS A DEFECT DIDNT NOTICE UNTIL ANOTHER DEALER DID THE OIL CHANGE. THE DEALER IN FEBRUARY SAID THEY WERENT LIKE THAT IN FEBRUARY.

I GOT A DIAGNOSTIC ALERT: SERVICE THE ENGING AND TRANSMISSION SYSTEM IN YOUR 2018 TERRAIN WITHIN 7 DAYS. THE CODE WAS P050F. I HAVE A LITTLE OVER 10,000 MILES ON HERE.

I HAVE AROUND 6 TO 7 MONTH WITH THE VEHICLE AND SINCE DAY ONE IT MADE A WEARD NOISE IN THE ENGINE TRANSMISSION AREA AND THE VEHICLE DOESNT RESPOND AND PERFORM WELL I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND AT FIRST THEY STATED IT WAS SOMETHING WITH THE TRANSMISSION AND THEN THEY STARTED GIVING ME MANYDIFERENT EXCUSES AND THAT IT WAS NORMAL BUT STILL THE SUV WOULDNT RESPOND I CALLED GM AND THEY OPENED A TICKET BUT AFTER THAT THEY SAID THEY COULD NOT DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT IN OTHER WORDS THEY TOLD ME I HAD TO DEAL WITH THE ISSUE. YESTURDAY FEB 26,2019 THE SUV STARTED HAVING WORST PROBLEMS AS TO WHERE IT WOULD NOT RUN MOR THEN 33 MILES A HOUR IT STARTED SHAKING RPMS GOING WILD THE VEHICLE ONLY HAS 5500 MILES ON IT. I DONT KNOW WHAT TO DO OUT OF THIS TIME I HAVE WITH IT THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN MORE TIMED AT THE DEALERSHIP THAN WITH ME

TAKATA RECALL MY COMPLAINT DOES NOT STEM FROM THE DEALERSHIP FIXING THE ISSUE, AS I HAVE NOT BROUGHT THE TRUCK IN YET FOR THE FIX. MY ISSUES LIES IN THE FACT THAT I HAVE TWO YOUNG CHILDREN AGES 3 AND 5 YEARS OLD. I AM NOW STUCK IN A LEASE FOR 3 YEARS KNOWING THE BRAKING SYSTEM IS UNSTABLE. THAT CAUSES ALARMING CONCERN TO ME AND MY WIFE. I DO NOT WANT TO DRIVE THIS CAR WITH MY CHILDREN IN IT AND NOW I HAVE NO CHOICE BUT TO SO FOR THE REMAINDER OF THE LEASE WHICH IS ALMOST 3 YEARS AS I JUST LEASED THE VEHICLE IN JULY. THERE IS NO GUARANTEE THAT THIS CAN'T HAPPEN AGAIN AND I THEREFORE ASK TO BE ABLE TO LEASE ANOTHER VEHICLE AT THE PRICE I AM CURRENTLY PAYING PER MONTH. THE SAFETY OF MY FAMILY IS FIRST AND FOREMOST. UNLESS I RECEIVE A GUARANTEE FROM THE MANUFACTURER THAT THIS WILL NOT HAPPEN AGAIN WITH MY VEHICLE I AM LEFT WITH MORE CONCERNS THAT ONE WHO LEASES A NEW VEHICLE SHOULD BE LEFT WITH.

I PULLED INTO OUR CARPORT. IT FELT LIKE THE CAR JUST "SPED UP AND WENT FASTER AND FASTER." IT HIT THE FRONT OF THE CAR STRAIGHT ON. NO AIRBAGS DEPLOYED NOR DID THE FRONT END COLLISION STOP HAPPEN.

THE FIRST TIME WHILE DRIVING AT 60 MPH, THE VEHICLE INSTRUMENT PANEL WARNING LIGHTS ACTIVATED AND GAUGES FLUCTUATED FOLLOWED BY ACCELERATION, BRAKING AND STEERING MOVEMENT. THEN THE INFORMATION PANEL DISPLAYED STABILITRAK UNAVAILABLE, COLLISION WARNING UNAVAILABLE, LANE CHANGE ALERT UNAVAILABLE AND TRANSMISSION SERVICE. THE CAR THEN STARTED SHIFTING ERRATICALLY. THE 2ND TIME SAME SITUATION WHILE DRIVING 30-40 MPH.
