YESTERDAY I STARTED MY VEHICLE AND TURNED ON THE A/C. THE A/C BLOWER WAS BLOWING AT THE HIGHEST SETTING REGARDLESS OF THE CONTROL SETTING. I TURNED THE A/C OFF AND THE BLOWER REMAINED ON. I TURNED THE IGNITION OFF AND THE BLOWER CONTINUED TO RUN. THE BLOWER CONTINUED TO RUN FOR APPROXIMATELY 8 MINUTES WHILE MY HUSBAND RESEARCHED ONLINE HOW TO GET IT TO STOP. THE BLOWER DID NOT STOP RUNNING UNTIL MY HUSBAND REMOVED THE FUSE. IF MY HUSBAND WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN WITH ME THE BLOWER WOULD HAVE CONTINUOUSLY RAN, CAUSING IT TO OVERHEAT, AND POSSIBLY CAUSING A FIRE. ALSO, WE HAVE DIGITAL GEAR LIGHTS ON OUR DASH. THOSE LIGHTS STARTED PERIODICALLY DIMMING SEVERAL YEARS AGO AND HAVE SINCE GONE OUT COMPLETELY, OTHER THAN THE SELDOM RANDOM OCCASION, SO WE CAN NO LONGER READ WHAT GEAR THE VEHICLE IS IN. WE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP WHERE IT WAS PURCHASED AND ASKED WHAT THE CAUSE WAS AND HOW TO REPAIR IT. WE WERE TOLD THE COMPLETE INSTRUMENT CONTROL PANEL CLUSTER WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED AT THE COST OF $350 FOR THE PANEL ALONE. AFTER DOING SOME RESEARCH OF MY OWN, I HAVE COME TO FIND OUT THIS SEEMS TO BE A VERY COMMON PROBLEM. NOT KNOWING WHAT GEAR YOU ARE IN IS DEFINITELY A SAFETY ISSUE THAT NEEDS TO BE HANDLED BY GM. *TR

THIS BASIC INCIDENT HAS OCCURRED APPROXIMATELY TEN TIMES. THE 4WD CONTROL MODULE MALFUNCTIONS AT RANDOM. THE VEHICLE MESSAGE CENTER WILL DISPLAY "SERVICE 4WD," AND A CLICKING SOUND CAN BE HEARD AS THE LIGHTS ON THE TRANSFER CASE CONTROL PANEL SWITCH ON AND OFF, SWITCHING THE VEHICLE IN AND OUT OF GEAR. SEVERAL TIMES THIS HAS HAPPENED IN SUCH A WAY THAT THE TRUCK SHIFTED INTO 4LO AT MODERATE SPEED. ONCE, THE VEHICLE STALLED IN AN INTERSECTION WITH THE ABRUPT SHIFT. I AM CONVINCED THAT THIS IS A SYSTEMATIC ISSUE WITH GM 4WD TRUCKS, BUT IT IS IN NO WAY BEING ADDRESSED. IT IS AN EXTREME SAFETY HAZARD WHEN A 5400 LB. VEHICLE SUDDENLY SHIFTS INTO LOW RANGE OR NEUTRAL WITHOUT ADVANCE WARNING. A SIMPLE INTERNET SEARCH SHOWS THAT THIS HAS HAPPENED TO MANY OTHER GM VEHICLE OWNERS. THE ONLY REMEDY SEEMS TO BE REMOVING THE RELAY TO CUT POWER TO THE MODULE, THUS RENDERING THIS "MIGHTY" 4X4 A 2WD SLED. THIS IS A SAFETY HAZARD OF THE HIGHEST ORDER! I CANNOT SAY ENOUGH NEGATIVE THINGS ABOUT THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM OF THIS VEHICLE IN PARTICULAR AND THE BUILD QUALITY IN GENERAL. IT DESTROYS TIRES, IT IS A PLEASANT SURPRISE WHEN SOMETHING WORKS AS IT SHOULD, AND I HAD TO REPLACE THE "HEAVY DUTY" TRANSMISSION AT 120K WHEN THE POWER BANDS CATASTROPHICALLY FAILED. FOR SHAME, GENERAL MOTORS! I WILL NEVER AGAIN PURCHASE ANOTHER OF YOUR SHODDY VEHICLES. *TR

INCIDENT DATE: FRONT CABIN / IN DASH FIRE 11/25/2011 AT 5:20PM VEHICLE: 2005 GMC YUKON XL SLT WITH APPROXIMATELY 120K MILES VEHICLE WAS PARKED IN DRIVEWAY; HAD JUST BEEN DRIVEN HOWEVER THE ENGINE WAS OFF; 15-30 MINUTES LATER HEARD LOUD BANG AND GLASS BREAKING; FRONT CABIN OF THE VEHICLE WAS ENGULFED IN FLAMES; OPENED DOORS AND SPRAYED WATER ON UNTIL FIRE DEPARTMENT GOT THERE. INSURANCE COMPANY HAS REQUESTED THAT THE VEHICLE REMAIN AT PLACE OF INCIDENT UNTIL ADJUSTER CAN INVESTIGATE. FIRE DEPARTMENT BEST ASSUMPTION AT THIS POINT IS THAT THIS WAS AN ELECTRICAL FIRE THAT STARTED SOMEWHERE IN THE DASH BETWEEN THE FRONT CENTER CONSOLE AND THE STEERING COLUMN. WE ARE THE ORIGINAL OWNER; BOUGHT THE VEHICLE NEW; NO AFTERMARKET OPTIONS; OTHER THAN TIRES AND BRAKES, ALL ORIGINAL MFTR EQUIPMENT, ALL WARRANTY WORK DONE AT GMC DEALERSHIP. WE HAVE EXTENSIVE DOCUMENTATION WITH GMC FOR ALL WARRANTY ISSUES SINCE IT WAS PURCHASED MANY OF WHICH HAVE BEEN ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS. EXAMPLES ARE STEERING COLUMN ELECTRONICS, PASSENGER A/C BLOWING HOT AIR DUE TO ELECTRICAL, RADIO / CD PLAYER OVER HEATING REPLACED 2 TIMES, DVD PLAYER REPLACED NUMEROUS TIMES, SPORADIC INCIDENTS WHERE DVD AND DASH COMPONENTS WOULD JUST STOP WORKING REQUIRING THE VEHICLE TO BE TURNED COMPLETELY OFF THEN BACK ON FOR IT TO WORK; FUEL GAUGE SHOWING EMPTY WHEN THE TANK WAS FULL - CAR HAD TO BE TURNED OFF, KEY OUT, RESTART TO CORRECT; ELECTRONIC FUEL PUMP ISSUES - REPLACED; LOAD LEVELING ELECTRICAL COMPONENT REPLACED; ELECTRONIC SHIFTING COMPONENTS ON TRANSMISSION; ELECTRONIC WINDOW SWITCH, ETC... *TR

2005 GMC YUKON XL SPEEDOMETER READING ERRATIC, NOW DOESN'T WORK AT ALL - NEEDLE HANGS DOWN PAST 120 MPH. APPEARS THAT THE STEPPER MOTOR THAT DRIVES THE SPEEDOMETER GAUGE HAS FAILED. I BELIEVE THIS HAS BEEN RECALLED FOR MODEL YEARS BEFORE 2005, BUT NOT FOR THIS MODEL YEAR. DEALER SAYS THAT THE ENTIRE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. *TR

WHEN DRIVING THE SPEEDOMETER NEEDLE WILL ONLY GO UP. IT WILL NOT COME BACK DOWN. SO EVERY TIME YOU STOP IT WILL ADD TO YOUR SPEED. I WAS DOING 50MPH AND IT SAID I WAS DOING 120MPH. IT FINALLY PEGGED AT THE HIGHEST SPEED IT WOULD GO AND WOULD NOT MOVE. I HAD IT FIXED AT THE DEALERSHIP, WHICH COST ME $600. I FOUND OUT THERE WAS A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT ABOUT THIS. I FILLED OUT MY CLAIM FORM AND WAS TOLD BY GMC THAT IT WAS ONLY A RECALL ON CERTAIN VIN NUMBERS FOR MY 2005. THAT MINE WAS NOT INCLUDED FOR THE REFUND. AND THAT I HAD THE NEW VERSION OF THE SPEEDOMETER THAT WAS FIXED. OBVIOUSLY, THE NEW ONE THEY USED DIDN'T WORK EITHER BECAUSE I HAD THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM AS THE 2003-2004 MODELS. *TR

WHILE DRIVING THE SPEEDOMETER WILL STOP DESCENDING AT A SPEED AND WHEN THE DRIVER ACCELERATES, THE NEEDLE WILL RESPOND AS THOUGH THE STICKING POINT WERE THE SPEED OF DECELERATION AND CONTINUE RISING FROM THERE UNTIL THE NEEDLE IS OVER PAST THE LAST LISTED SPEED ON THE FACE OF THE IPC. IT OCCURS ABOUT ONCE EVERY TWO WEEKS AND WHEN IT OCCURS IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO KNOW WHAT THE SPEED OF THE VEHICLE IS. SO FAR, IT IS POSSIBLE TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM BY LETTING THE VEHICLE SIT, SOMETIMES OVERNIGHT IS NECESSARY, AND START THE VEHICLE AND THEN SHUT IT OFF. THIS DROPS THE SPEEDOMETER NEEDLE ABOUT 5MPH. THE DRIVER MUST CONTINUE TO DO THIS UNTIL THE NEEDLE HAS GONE FROM THE BLACK FACE OF THE IPC TO THE ZERO MARK ON THE PANEL. *TR
