TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 GMC YUKON XL. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE APPROACHING AN INTERSECTION, THE ABS WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED AND THE VEHICLE VIBRATED AS THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED. THE VEHICLE DID NOT STOP WHEN THE BRAKES WERE APPLIED AND WAS IN THE INTERSECTION BEFORE IT FINALLY STOPPED. THE BRAKING ISSUES PERSISTED AS THE VEHICLE WAS CONTINUOUSLY DRIVEN. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHO STATED THAT THE ELECTRONIC BRAKE CONTROL MODULE HAD FAILED AND WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER WHO OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 156,000.

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 GMC YUKON XL. THE CONTACT REFERENCED NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 05V379000 (SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC:ANTILOCK) BECAUSE HER VEHICLE IS EXPERIENCING THE SAME ISSUES. THE ABS INDICATOR ILLUMINATES AND MAKES A LOUD NOISE WHEN DRIVING AND WHEN THE VEHICLE IS STOPPED. THE ABS ACTIVATION ALSO MAKES STOPPING THE VEHICLE VERY DIFFICULT. THE DEALER ADVISED THE CONTACT TO DEFUSE THE FUSE WHERE THE ABS INDICATOR IS LOCATED IN ORDER TO STOP THE NOISE WHILE THE ENGINE IS RUNNING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER AND THEY STATED THAT THE REPAIR WOULD COST $1,100. THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER AND THEY INSTRUCTED THE DEALER TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE AT 50% OF THE COST; HOWEVER, THE DEALER REFUSED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 80,000.

AS A RESULT, THE VEHICLE LUNGES FORWARD BEFORE COMING TO A COMPLETE STOP. THE DEALER REPLACED THE ANTILOCK SPEED SENSOR AND THE FRONT HUB ASSEMBLY AT THE COST OF $600. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 GMC YUKON XL. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE ABS WAS FAILING AND THE ANTILOCK BRAKING PUMP CONTINUOUSLY RUNS. HE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER AND THEY INFORMED HIM THAT THE PAD-CIRCUIT BOARD WAS FAILING AND CAUSED THE PUMP TO RUN AT HIGH SPEEDS. THIS COULD LEAD TO OVERHEAT AND A POSSIBLE FIRE. THE FAILURE OCCURS AFTER DRIVING THE VEHICLE AT ANY SPEED. WHEN THE ENGINE WAS SHUT OFF, IT MADE A HIGH PITCHED MOTOR NOISE. HE SEARCHED AND DISCOVERED NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 05V379000 (SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC:ANTILOCK). THE RECALL ONLY APPLIES TO CERTAIN STATES AND HIS VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED. EVENTS LEADING UP TO THE FAILURE: 2002 YUKON 73,000 MILES. NO PREVIOUS EVENTS LEADING UP TO THE PROBLEM. FAILURE/CONSEQUENCES: 2002 YUKON: I STARTED MY CAR AND ABS LIGHT STAYED ON. WHILE DRIVING, I COULD FEEL AN ABNORMAL VIBRATION THROUGHOUT MY CAR. (WITH MY TWO SMALL CHILDREN, WE PULLED OFF TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD ON THE RIGHT OF WAY. I CUT OFF MY CAR (REMOVED KEY OUT OF IGNITION) AND THE CAR SOUNDED LIKE IT WAS STILL ON. CORRECT THE PROBLEM: I CALLED MY GMC DEALER IN AUSTIN TEXAS WHERE I HAD PURCHASED THE VEHICLE AND THE SERVICE MANAGER TOLD ME THAT HE HAS SEEN MANY INCIDENTS SUCH AS THIS. HE INDICATED THAT IF I LEFT THE ABS MOTOR RUNNING, THAT MY BATTERY WOULD DIE AND/OR THE MOTOR WOULD RUIN. SO, HE INSTRUCTED ME TO RAISE THE HOOD AND REMOVE THE 60AMP ABS FUSE. BY DOING SO, THE VIBRATION/MOTOR STOPPED. HE SAID TO BRING IT INTO THE GARAGE FOR SERVICE. HIS INITIAL GUESS WAS THAT IT WAS THE ABS MODULE OR EBCM NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. BECAUSE MY VEHICLE WAS NO LONGER IN WARRANTY, HE ESTIMATED THAT IT COULD COST ANYWHERE BETWEEN $1100.00-1900.00 DOLLARS. I HAVE DONE RESEARCH ON THE INTERNET AND THERE ARE MANY 1999-2004 GM SUVS AND TRUCKS WHICH HAVE EXPERIENCED THIS PROBLEM. I AM REQUESTING THAT A RECALL BE PLACED FOR THESE MODULES. *TR

2002 YUKON W/ABS LIGHT ON AND SOME KIND OF MOTOR RUNNING EVEN IF MY VEHICLE IS OFF. THE NEXT MORNING MY BATTERY WAS DEAD. I TOOK IT TO A DEALERSHIP WHO TOLD ME THAT I NEEDED A NEW ABS MODULE/PUMP AND IT WOULD COST BETWEEN $950 TO $1,200 TO FIX. THEY DISCONNECTED THE MOTOR TO KEEP FROM RUNNING AND DRAINING MY BATTERY. I HAVE NOT HAD ANY PROBLEMS WITH MY BRAKES, THEY ARE FINE. BRAKES WERE INSPECTED AND PASSED INSPECTION. CALLED GMC RECALL LINE AND WAS TOLD THERE WAS NO RECALL FOR 2002 YUKONS IN TEXAS. *JB

ABS LIGHT CAME ON; DROVE A FEW DAYS AFTER THAT. WHILE DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 7 MILES PER HOUR, I TRIED TO STOP FOR A LIGHT AND NEARLY HIT CAR IN FRONT OF ME. BRAKES RUMBLED TO A HALT, FORTUNATELY. TOOK CAR TO BRAKE CHECK, HAD TO HAVE BOLTS ON HUB BEARING REPLACED. CONTACTED GMC TO HELP SHARE IN COST OF REPAIR, AS THERE HAS BEEN A RECALL (2002 GMC YUKON RECALL ID FROM NHTSA: 05V379000 ) IN CERTAIN "SALT BELT STATES", DUE TO CORROSION. DT*: THE CONTACT STATED IN NOVEMBER WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR ROUTINE SERVICE, THE DEALERSHIP NOTICED THE REAR ROTORS WERE HITTING THE INSIDE OF THE BACKING PLATES INSIDE THE HUB. ALSO, THE ROTORS WERE RUSTED. THE FRONT END WAS ALSO OBSERVED TO BE SHAKING. THE DEALERSHIP DETERMINED THE SHAKING WAS NORMAL 4X4 CHARACTERISTICS; HOWEVER THE DEALERSHIP INSTALLED A LUBE KIT THAT GOES ON THE STEERING COLUMN UNDERNEATH THE HOOD. THE SHAKING RETURNED AND THE DEALERSHIP INFORMED THE CONTACT THE LUBE KIT WAS NO LONGER A REMEDY FOR THIS SHAKING PROBLEM. THERE WAS NOT ANOTHER REMEDY OFFERED.

CONSUMER'S VEHICLE FOLLOWED A SCHOOL BUS, NO CHILDREN WERE ON THE BUS. AROUND 7:50 AM THE BUS STOPPED FOR RED LIGHT. SPEED WAS APPROXIMATELY 20-25 MPH. AS THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS PUSHED DOWN THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO SLOW DOWN, BUT IT DID NOT SLOW AS QUICKLY AS NORMAL. THE ABS ENGAGED, BUT THE VEHICLE CONTINUED TO PROCEED FORWARD. THERE WAS PLENTY OF ROOM AND TIME THAT THE VEHICLE SHOULD HAVE STOPPED BUT IT DID NOT. THE VEHICLE BUMPED THE REAR OF THE BUS, PUSHING IN THE BUMPER OF VEHICLE. THIS INCIDENT FOLLOWED THE PATTERN SET FORTH IN NHTSA RECALL 05V379000 ON AUGUST 29 2005. HOWEVER, ON NOVEMBER 18, 2005 THE LOCAL DEALER PERFORMED THE PROCEDURE THAT GMC RECOMMENDED TO CORRECT THIS PROBLEM, BUT I FEEL THAT THE VEHICLE STILL FAILED IN THIS INCIDENT.*AK

MY WIFE HAS ON DIFFERENT OCCASIONS ON THE FREEWAY APPLIED THE BRAKES QUICKLY AND THE PEDAL WENT DOWN TO THE FLOOR, THANK GOD THERE WAS AN EMERGENCY LANE WHERE SHE SWERVED OUT TO. IT HAS ALSO HAPPENED TO ME. WE ARE TOLD THAT YOU DO NOT PUMP THE BRAKES ON AN ABS BRAKING SYSTEM, WELL MY WIFE CAME HOME AND TOLD ME BY PUMPING THE PEDAL THE BRAKES SEEM TO STOP A LITTLE BETTER. NOW WHAT DO YOU THINK THAT IS TELLING YOU??? I HAVE BEEN IN THE AUTOMOTIVE BUSINESS FOR OVER 40 YEARS, AND HAVE NEVER HAD A PROBLEM LIKE THIS. THEY HAVE YET TO FIX THE PROBLEM BECAUSE THEY SAY THERE IS NOTHING WRONG, AND SINCE THE VEHICLE DID NOT COME IN ON A HOOK AND OR WAS NOT IN A ACCIDENT THEY WOULD NOT DO ANYTHING. WHILE DRIVING MY 2002 YUKON XL, THERE IS YELLOW LIGHT APPEARED ON THE I/P CLUSTER MESSAGE CENTER. "SERVICE 4WD" AND WHEN GENTLY APPLY/PRESSING ON THE BRAKE PEDAL, THE IS SOME KIND OF LOUD MECHANISM NOISE IN THE FRONT WHEEL DRIVER SIDE, AND PREVENT THE BRAKE PEDAL FROM COMING DOWN. THREE TIMES THAT I ALMOST REAR END OTHER VEHICLES. TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP TO GET IT FIXED, THE COST WAS $2212.93 FOR FIXING BRAKE SYSTEM FAILURE INCLUDING ANTI BRAKE SYSTEM AND 4WHEEL DRIVE. DEALER RECOMMENDED TO A REPORT TO NHTSA.

I HAVE A 2002 GMC YUKON XL. I BOUGHT THE VEHICLE BRAND NEW IN JUNE OF 2002. AT 376 MILES MY BRAKE SYSTEM LOCKED UP. I HAVE CONTINUED TO HAVE THIS PROBLEM EVER SINCE. AS YOUR DRIVING THE BRAKES APPLY AND YOU LOOSE CONTROL OF YOUR STEERING. THIS PROBLEM DOES NOT OCCUR ALL THE TIME, BUT DOES HAPPEN. THEY HAVE REPLACED MY MASTER CYLINDER, POWER BOOSTER, AND ALL 4 ROTORS. THIS PROBLEM IS STILL NOT FIXED AND BECAUSE THE DEALERSHIP CAN NOT GET IT TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM WHILE THEY ARE DRIVING IT, THEY SAY THERE IS NOTHING ELSE THEY CAN DO. I AM FILING THIS COMPLAINT BECAUSE I FEAR FOR MY SAFETY. THE LAST TIME IT HAPPENED ON 9/11/03 IT WAS TOWED TO THE NEAREST DEALERSHIP, THEY HAVE INFORMED ME THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO. THE BRAKE LINE (A METAL ROD, NOT HOSE) BROKE OFF, ON AN ICE MOUNTAIN ROAD ON DECEMBER 23, 2002. THE CAR WAS BRAND NEW WITH 9800 MILES ON IT AND THERE MY THREE CHILDREN AGES 3, 3, AND 5 WERE IN THE CAR. WE WERE TOWED DOWN THE MOUNTAIN FOR 60 MILES. GENERAL MOTORS FIXED THE BRAKE LINE AND TOOK OVER TWO MONTHS TO GET BACK TO ME WITH A $55.00 REIMBURSEMENT FOR THE CAR RENTAL. THIS COULD HAVE BEEN CATASTROPHIC FOR MY FAMILY.
