I was driving on interstate and thank God I got off the exit and vehicle suddenly cut off. An indicator came on stating to push start to restart vehicle while the vehicle shifted to Neutral on its own. Then a Low oil pressure sign came up on dashboard. I tried push start again and nothing happened. Lucky by this time I was just off the exit so I was able to come to a stop and shift to Park. I tried push start again and the dashboard just went dark and started making a clicking noise. After some time around 1 min I tried again and it did crank up and I was able to try and get as close the the edge as possible but still in a two lane road on the bridge of an off ramp. I say thank God because 30 seconds sooner I was going around 60mph with my 4 month old in the backseat. Lucky I got to the exit when this happened. From the research I have done apparently this happens a lot to this model I have 2024 GMC Yukon Denali XL. I had a recall for this issues supposedly fixed back in October 2025. Things could of been much worse. Also this all happen coming from just having an oil change done at the dealer. Literally leaving the dealership going home. The dealership loaned me a vehicle they say for 3 days for free after that I may have to pay because it may not be covered by GM which is ridiculous. The vehicle is at the dealer and I will be waiting to hear there analysis.
Vehicle was operating on the interstate with cruise control activated. Time was approximately 9:15pm. Weather was fair with temperatures in the lower 60's. Speed was approximately 73mph. Without any audible or warning light notifications the engine stalled and all exterior lighting, power assisted braking and steering was lost. The emergency flashers were immediately activated to warn vehicles in nearby proximity of our emergency status. I tried to restart the engine(the transmission was showing to be in N)with no success. During the attempt to restart, the exterior lighting was restored. With the path of travel now visible, I was able to slow the vehicle to a safe speed and exit from the roadway onto the shoulder. Upon stopping, the vehicle was placed into P and OnStar was notified of the event. We remained in the vehicle until one of our friends was able to take us home. Onstar contacted AAA to remove the vehicle to the nearest GM dealership.

I am filing this complaint regarding GM Recall N252494000 (NHTSA Campaign Number 25V274) for my 2024 GMC Yukon XL (VIN: [XXX] ). The issue involves a serious engine defect related to the crankshaft and/or connecting rods, which can result in catastrophic engine failure and loss of propulsion while driving—a clear and dangerous safety risk. I first became concerned when early reports of this issue began circulating publicly. As a father of young children, I became increasingly uneasy that my vehicle could potentially fail while in operation. Receiving GM’s formal recall letter only validated my growing concern for my family’s well-being. It’s deeply frustrating and unsettling. The notice states that parts to repair or replace the engine are not currently available, and offers no clear timeframe for when a remedy will be provided. I feel like we are being strung along while forced to continue using a vehicle that may become unsafe at any moment. This delay is unacceptable. There has been no offer of a loaner vehicle, no proactive communication from the dealer, and no assurance from GM that they are prioritizing driver safety over logistics. I am requesting that NHTSA investigate whether GM is doing enough to provide timely remedies to affected customers. I also urge you to consider whether interim solutions (such as alternative transportation or more aggressive recall execution) should be mandated. Thank you for your attention to this matter. The engine seized on us. It only has 18,000 miles on it. This could have caused a serious accident! There was no warning, no indication, it just died and would not restart. We had to have it towed over an hour to get to our closest dealer (and don't get me started on how they treated me!). We were stopped at a stop sign at the intersection and it just died. Thankfully we weren't driving down the highway or in the middle of traffic, we just ended up blocking people from using our lane for quite sometime. The cops were called for traffic control, but no police report was filed.
Engine started making noise no codes no alarms pulled off hwy had to have it towed to dealership. Service told us needed to replace engine had no time frame on when vehicle would be returned.
Engine oil consumption, low oil every 3000 miles
My vehicle stalled while driving on a busy highway & I had no option but to pull over, which left me & my family in a very dangerous position. Had to remove my daughter's wheelchair onto a tow truck as the vehicle had no power to use the hoist for her powerchair. Again, on the side of a busy road! Towed the vehicle to a GM dealership, who stated there was catastrophic engine failure & the engine had to be replaced. Had no way to transport my daughter until I got a new engine since her hoist was stuck at the dealership.
The car has made a high pitched metallic rattle on cold start ever since I received it. I have taken it into the dealership multiple times for this and have had the lifters in the engine replaced but they never addressed the other noise, which I have video evidence of. The car died at 24,740 miles on the odometer in the middle of a highway in the middle of nowhere. The vehicle started to feel like it was braking on acceleration, there were no warning lights. The vehicle just lost acceleration power and I had to coast to the shoulder. Luckily I had time to pull over without interference from other traffic. Once on the side of the road I tried to crank the car again and a very loud metallic sound happened that sounded like I threw a wrench in a fan. The car lost electrical power very shortly after. I called onstar for help and she asked if I could shift the car into neutral which I could not. They had problems finding anyone that wasn’t hours out that could come tow my car and suggested that I try to find an alternate method of transportation since a wrecker service probably wouldn’t transport my entire family. Uber was not around to get me, Lyft was not around to get me and there was no taxi service. I had to rely on the local fire department to rescue us as it was hours with myself, my two children and my dog on the side of the road in 90F heat. Once at the dealership they confirmed it was indeed a catastrophic engine failure and I am currently waiting months for a back ordered engine with a rental I’m paying partially out of pocket for, in a car that’s entirely way too small for my family with no ETA on the engine in sight. I know multiple people personally who this has also happened to, same exact scenario and same exact engine just different model years.
1) The engine began making unusual noises. I had the vehicle towed to the dealer. It is currently at Zimbrick Eastside in Madison Wisconsin. 2) The problem was noticed prior to my family being put at risk only because I noticed the noise happening while we were parked. 3) The problem has been confirmed. The dealer is doing a complete engine replacement. However, as of today, it has been at their location for over 30 days. 4) To my knowledge the vehicle has not been inspected by the manufacturer or any other 3rd party representatives. As of today, there has been no correspondence between myself and the manufacturer. 5) There were no warning lights, messages or symptoms prior to the problem. The problem first occurred on Saturday [XXX]. The vehicle has 19462 miles and we are the first owners. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
V8 6.2L ENGINE on [XXX] at approximately [XXX] exactly 10 months after purchasing the Denali at 9,484 miles my Denali started to make loud noises and when we got to the stop light [XXX] and [XXX] in Long Beach California the Denali started to shake violently and ultimately shut down in the middle of the road. My daughter and I were traveling on the way home from the doctor’s office and when Denali shut down, I called AAA, and they advised me to call 911 since Denali locked up in park and could not get it in neutral to push the truck to the side of the road. This was very dangerous as vehicles were speeding past us. We stayed in the vehicle until an officer arrived. Then about 15mins later the tow truck arrived and made the area safe with cones and flashing lights. I did put my hazard lights on but in the middle of the day it was very hard to see. AAA was able to disengage the parking to neutral as he mentioned that he just towed another Denali off the road. This is a huge concern for my family and me. I didn’t get to see how he did it because I was with my daughter safe in the Tow Truck. AAA then towed the truck to Penske GMC in Cerrito Auto Square and arrived at 1:48pm. Service advisor then said to leave at garage door and will assess the vehicle tomorrow morning. Albert, the Service advisor, proceeded with giving me paperwork for the Denali and an Enterprise rental car that was located across the street. We had to walk because the shuttle was down (another concern). Albert the service advisor called me the next day [XXX] and advised that the first auto technician suggested the motor seized up. I was advised to wait until the Engine Specialist assessed the motor. Albert the service advisor calls me March 5,2025 @ 11:15am and Engine Specialist did confirm that the motor did seize up and will need a new one. The motor will take approximately 2 weeks to arrive and 3 days to install. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
The engine had a bearing fail causing the engine to knock and make loud noises. The engine has been replaced and is at GMC corporate investigation center. GMC installed another engine that is also doing the same thing 150 miles after it was replaced. My families safety was put at risk because the motor could have locked up or exploded with us in the car causing a crash or possible fatality. Yes the problem was found at the dealer and caused them to investigate which is when they found the failing bearing. Yes, GMC corporation has the failed components and identified the engine needs replaced. They have yet to comment on the second engine that needs replaced. There are no warning lights to identify this issue, The lack of notification from GMC could cause drivers to be hurt by not knowing their car is failing.
I purchased my new GMC Yukon XL in October 2024. In February, with about 9,000 miles on it, I was approaching a highway intersection and beginning to brake. My vehicle put itself into Neutral, and then shut off -- while I was still moving. No dash lights came on, except for a message stating that I needed to press the brake and restart my vehicle. I took my vehicle into the dealership where I purchased it and they kept it for 8 days. They were unable to reproduce the issue and didn't do anything to mitigate the problem except for doing a "radio update" and adding lubricant to a window track. I was told I have to wait until it happens again and try to record it.
Total engine failure at 12,307 miles without warning. The engine turned off while driving on the Interstate - a message appeared on the instrument panel that said "Press start". We coasted to the shoulder and the car was towed to the dealership where the diagnosis was a failed L87 V8 engine. I'm aware of 3 others with the same engine (2024 Denali, 2024 Escalade, 2024, Silverado) that have also experienced this issue. After some research, this appears to be under review by the the NHTSA. This was a dangerous situation with an engine failure at highway speeds, at night, on an unlit well-traveled Interstate with 4 children in the vehicle. The dealership stated that my repair is behind 2 vehicles awaiting the same engine replacement.
We are a military family and were stationed in Fort Wainwright, Alaska in 2024. We had orders to move our household and all logistics (ferry tickets, lodging, etc...) were in place to depart on [XXX]. Following our first incident of engine failure with a 2023 Yukon Denali (VIN: [XXX] ) on [XXX], we were forced to trade in the vehicle and purchase a 2024 Yukon Denali XL. On [XXX], my husband and I packed our three daughters and loaded the 2024 Yukon Denali XL (VIN [XXX] ) for a two-week Christmas vacation with our extended families. Just outside Collinsville, Alabama the vehicle automatically shifted into neutral where my husband lost control of the accelerator pedal. Thankfully, we were in the right lane and safely navigated to the shoulder. Had we been in the far-left lane of this busy interstate, our family’s safety would have been at significant risk. Once parked, the vehicle never started again. We waited a few hours for a tow truck and family to collect us and all our belongings. It snowed most of the day and was very cold and while waiting for assistance, our car battery died. The vehicle was towed to Royal GMC in Vestavia Hills, Alabama and diagnosed with engine failure requiring complete engine replacement. General Motors replaced the engine since the vehicle was under warranty; however, after two engine failures I do not trust that this won't happen again. I fear for my family's safety. Vehicle was traveling down the freeway at 70 mph when suddenly the motor stopped running and it shifted automatically into neutral. We had to coast the car off of the freeway to the side of the road and stop. One stopped the motor no longer would start and we had to call a tow truck to get towed to the dealership. Dealership has stated that the motor will be need to be replaced. Wheel samples were taken and results were excessive metals found in the oil. Dealer noted likely it was a bearing issue that failed in caused the motor to fail. A complete engine replacement will be required from the dealership
Two weeks ago, while driving on the highway, our Yukon suddenly quit accelerating and flipped into neutral. We had to quickly pull over to the left shoulder with our entire family. We put the vehicle into park and tried to restart, which it wouldn’t do. We ended up having to call OnStar and having it towed to the nearest dealer. They “repaired it,” yet a week later, the same thing happened while pulling up to a stop light. This time we were 4 hours from home and on a weekend. While waiting for a tow truck, the police towed it to an impound lot. Lots of money, time and red tape to get it out of the impound lot to the nearest dealer to have it looked at. It’s been there almost a week and all I’ve heard is that it’s most likely the motor but they still haven’t confirmed.
2024 gmc Yukon with less than 2,000 miles decided not to start one day. Had a tow truck come to the house and pick it up to take to a local shop to get a new battery. Replaced the battery and the battery shop delivered to car back to our house and was totally fine…the next day we went to start it and again the battery was toast. So, got another tow truck to deliver to the dealership and had it checked out, the dealership says there are 12 codes popping up and they can’t figure out why the batteries are not holding at this point. This is a diesel Yukon. We had a 2022 Escalade that the motor went belly up on us 3 times before we bought this diesel Yukon thinking this problem would go away but I guess I was wrong. I will be returning this Yukon to the dealership and doing a buyback. We have been stranded way too many times with these gm vehicles and I’m starting to loose trust with General Motors.
I was driving on the highway and my car signaled a "Low Oil Pressure". I pulled over and checked the oil level which confirmed I had the proper amount of oil in the engine. I turned on engine and began to drive again. Five minutes later I got a warning saying "No Oil. Turn Engine Off" and pulled over immediately. Had the car towed to GMC Beck and Masten Dealership the same day. Next day GMC Beck and Masten dealership ran diagnostics and didn't find any issues other than confirming the computer showed some "communication issues". They reset the computer system and called me and said I was good to go. I picked up my SUV and a mile away from home I notice the oil gauge was almost at zero. As I turned slowly to my street the SUV just stopped moving in the middle of a road while an 18 wheeler was behind me in a construction zone. 18 wheeler had to swerve to the right to prevent hitting me. I had the car towed again. The week after dealership called and said "you will stay in your rental and we are ordering an engine" casually. I called to understand what was going on but had to look in car forums to realize this was bigger than just a glitch in one car.
While accelerating up to 55MPH, the vehicle automatically shifted into neutral without warning. We tried to shift it back into Drive, nothing happened. We pulled off the road to try and shift in a reduced speed and still nothing. We finally came to a stop and tried to shift it into Drive, still nothing. There was an error message: “conditions not correct for shift”. We place vehicle into Park, turned off the engine and tried to restart. The engine wouldn’t turn over. A police officer stopped and tried to jump the battery, nothing. The dashboard and lights turn on, but there was ZERO turn over with the ignition. We continued to try it to no avail. We had a tow company come and unplug the battery to try a system reset, and still nothing. Car was towed with no ability to get it into neutral.
1/14/25 car lost acceleration, power steering, power braking while driving on the interstate. no warning. car switched to neutral and would not be put back into drive and stopped running. eventually restarted and drove towards a safe location with rough shifting for another few miles before the loss of power again and began making loud engine sounds. at this point the car died again and did not restart. this was the first time any check engine or warning light came on.
On [XXX], while traveling from Florida to Kentucky to visit family for the holidays, our Yukon XL began to make a noise that mimicked that of a car going over Rumble strips on the highway. This happened at approximately the Tennessee Kentucky state lines. We stopped the car and contacted OnStar who then ran a remote diagnostic and stated that they could not tell if anything was wrong with our vehicle and recommend seeking out a GMC repair center once we arrived at our destination. The technician at the GMC dealership after evaluating our vehicle told us that there was metal in the oil filter and that the engine would need to be replaced. Our Car was not safe to drive or return to our home over 800 miles away. No warning lights came on in the vehicle to warn us that the car was at risk or failing. We are still without out our car as another engine has not been secured by GM. Our Car is still in Kentucky at the dealership who found the problem and is inoperable. Our car is 9 months old and had only approximately 13,000 miles on it and all service has been completed at a GMC dealership. My wife was driving our 2024 Yukon Denali XL when, without warning or any indications, the engine shut down. She lost power to the car car in the middle of a highway, endangering herself, our children and other drivers on the road. She was unable to restart the car or change the gears. She had to call the police to help and they ordered a tow truck to have the car towed. The car had been in for an oil change 2 days prior at the dealership. We had the car towed there and they confirmed the engine needed to be replaced. Looks like we can add this to the laundry list of other GM trucks with the same issue.
