COMPLETE BRAKE FAILURE WHEN TWO METAL LINES RUPTURED CAUSING A LOSS OF HYDRAULIC PRESSURE IN BOTH CIRCUITS DURING A HARD STOP. ABS HAD NOT ACTIVATED. THE BRAKING TOOK PLACE AT LOW SPEED WHEN A CAR AHEAD STOPPED SUDDENLY PEDAL SANK TO THE FLOOR, AND THE CABLE-ACTIVATED PARKING BRAKE WAS THEN USED TO AVOID A COLLISION AND GET THE TRUCK TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD.

BRAKE ROTOR AND PAD KIT PURCHASED FROM ROCK AUTO WAS THE WRONG DIMENSION AND THEY REFUSED TO ACCEPT THE IMPROPER FIT, THE FOLLOWING RESPONSE FROM ROCK AUTO: :[XXX] I HAVE RECEIVED A REPLY FROM THE MANUFACTURER CONFIRMING THAT PART NUMBER KOE 1970, THE ROTORS YOU RECEIVED, ARE THE CORRECT ROTORS FOR A 1999 GMC YUKON 5.7L V8 WITH 4WD AND 6 LUG WHEELS. THE PART NUMBER FOR THESE ROTORS SHOULD BE AR8609XPR. IF THIS IS NOT THE NUMBER STAMPED ON THE ROTOR YOU RECEIVED, YOU MAY HAVE RECEIVED A MIS-BOXED PART. IF THAT IS THE CASE, PLEASE RESPOND WITH THE NUMBER THAT IS STAMPED ON THE ROTOR YOU RECEIVED. IF THIS NUMBER MATCHES THE ROTORS YOU RECEIVED, YOU CAN SIMPLY FOLLOW THE RETURN INSTRUCTIONS I HAVE EMAILED TO YOU. IN THIS CASE WE WOULD BE UNABLE TO REFUND YOU THE ORIGINAL SHIPPING, BUT WE WILL COVER THE RETURN SHIPPING IN THE FORM OF A SHIPPING LABEL. A NEIGHBOR TOOK THE PROTECTIVE PANEL OFF OF THE FRONT UNDERCARRIAGE AND FOUND BRAKE FLUID LEAKING FROM THE TUBING. THE TRUCK IS SCHEDULED TO GO TO THE REPAIR SHOP TOMORROW TO FIX THIS. *TR

(REAR BRAKE LINE RUPTURE) MY WIFE WAS ON HER WAY TO WORK WHEN SHE APPLIED THE BRAKES THE BRAKE WARNING LIGHT CAME ON. THE PEDAL BECAME REAL SOFT AS IF THE VEHICLE WASN'T GOING TO STOP. AFTER RETURNING HOME, UPON INVESTIGATION THE BRAKE MASTER CYLINDER WAS ALMOST EMPTY. I FOUND BRAKE FLUID COMING OUT OF A BADLY CORRODED BRAKE LINE JUST BEHIND THE FUEL TANK. THIS COULD HAVE BEEN A VERY BAD SITUATION. WE ARE THE SECOND OWNERS ON THIS VEHICLE, PURCHASED IN 2001. WE HAVE ALWAYS KEPT IT MAINTAINED AND CLEAN, INCLUDING CAR WASHES AFTER SNOW STORMS TO REMOVE ROAD SALT AND SAND. THIS SHOULD NOT BE HAPPENING ON AN 11 YEAR OLD VEHICLE, THANKFULLY THIS DIDN'T RESULT IN AN ACCIDENT. I HAVE ALSO NOTICED THE FUEL LINES HAVE CORROSION AT EVER MOUNTING LOCATION. CONSUMER'S 1999 GMC YUKON IS EXPERIENCING PROBLEM RELATED TO CAMPAIGN NUMBER 05V379000. *NJ THE CONSUMER STATED HE HAS BEEN EXPERIENCING PROBLEMS WITH THE ABS FOR THE PAST 10 YEARS. THE SENSORS WERE REPLACED TWICE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING AND THEY STATED THAT THE FAILURE WAS RELATED TO THE ABS SENSOR. THE VIN WAS EXCLUDED FROM NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 05V379000 (SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC:ANTILOCK;CONTROL UNIT/MODULE), ALTHOUGH THE FAILURES WERE IDENTICAL. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURES AND THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 95,000. I CHECK ON THE INTERNET BEFORE SCHEDULING THE REPAIR AND FOUND A RECALL ON THIS ISSUE WITH THE VEHICLE. WHEN CALLING TO MAKE AN APPOINTMENT FOR REPAIR I WAS NOTIFIED THAT MY VEHICLE WOULD NOT BE COVERED UNDER THE RECALL. NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER IS 05V379000. I HAVE HAD MY VEHICLE REPAIRED AND CALLED GMC AT 1-866-996-9463 AND WAS TOLD THAT I WOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR THE REPAIR MYSELF. GM RECALL # 05068 FOR THIS SAFETY ISSUE. THIS RECALL PERTAINS TO CERTAIN PICKUP TRUCKS AND SUV'S BETWEEN 1999 AND 2002 AND FAILING ABS AT SLOW SPEEDS WHICH CAUSES THE BRAKES TO PULSATE AND TO NOT WORK CORRECTLY. THE RECALL COVERED MOST OF THE NE STATES (SALT BELT) AND WAS CAUSED BY CORROSION. THE ABS LOW SPEED SENSOR'S WOULD MALFUNCTION AND CAUSE THE ABS TO ACTIVATE AND THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT STOP (AS IF SLIPPING). I OWN A 1999 GMC YUKON WITH 70K MILES AND THE ABS SENSORS ARE SHOT. I CALLED GM, THEY TOLD ME TO CONTACT A LOCAL DEALER, WHEN I DID, THE DEALER SAID THEY WOULD TALK TO THE GM REP. FINAL ANSWER FROM GM ...SINCE MY VIN WAS NOT PART OF THE RECALL, THEY WILL DO NOTHING. THEY WANT $300 TO FIX MY 99 YUKON, THE SAME PROBLEM THEY WOULD FIX FOR FREE IF IT WERE A 1999 SIERRA K1500 TRUCK OR A 2000 YUKON, BOTH VEHICLES USING THE SAME ABS SENSORS. MY 1999 GMC YUKON IS A K1500 (AS STATED ON THE ORIGINAL STICKER) AND THAT VEHICLE IS COVERED BY THE RECALL AS WELL AS THE 2000 YUKON. I HAVE CHECKED AND THE REPLACEMENT SENSORS ARE THE SAME FOR MY 99 YUKON AS THEY ARE FOR THE 99 K1500 AND THE 2000 YUKON. GM DEALER SAID TO ME, "WELL YOU TRUCK IS OUT OF WARRANTY". DT: THE CONTACT OWNS 1999 GMC YUKON. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THERE WAS A RECALL ON THIS MODEL/MAKE AND YEAR. BUT THIS VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL DUE TO VIN. THE CONSUMER HAS CONTACTED THE MANUFACTURER REGARDING THIS ISSUE. THE CONSUMER STATES WHILE APPLYING THE BRAKES, 9 OUT OF 10 TIMES IT FELT AS THOUGH IT KEPT STOPPING, BUT DID NOT COMPLETELY STOP. A LOCAL MECHANIC STATED IT WAS A PROBLEM WITH THE ABS SYSTEM. THE MECHANIC INSPECTED THE VEHICLE THOROUGHLY THEN REPLACED THE REAR BRAKE PADS. THE ABS LIGHT DID NOT ILLUMINATE, INDICATING A PROBLEM WITH THE BRAKING SYSTEM.*AK

THE METAL HYDRAULIC BRAKE LINE RUNNING FROM THE MASTER CYLINDER TO THE PASSENGER SIDE FRONT DISC BRAKE ASSEMBLY RUPTURED, CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO LOSE ITS BRAKING POWER WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS BEING DRIVEN. THIS LINE CROSSES THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE AND THEN RUNS ON TOP OF THE FRAME JUST UNDER WHERE THE BATTERY IS LOCATED. AFTER INSPECTING AND FINDING THE HOLE IT WAS VERY APPARENT THAT BATTERY ACID/CORROSION HAD DRIPPED ONTO THE LINE,, CAUSING IT TO BE EATEN AWAY. THE BATTERY IS ORGINAL EQUIPMENT AND MAINTANANCE FREE.

THE FRONT ROTORS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AND VEHICLE WAS UNDER WARRANTY BUT GMC INSIST THAT BRAKES WERE NOT PART OF WARRANTY EVEN THOUGH WHEN I TOOK VEHICLE INTO GMC DEALERSHIP FOR INSPECTION GMC DEALER INFORMED ME THAT IT WAS A KNOWN FACT AT GMC THAT THE ORIGINAL BRAKES ON THE YUKON ONLY LASTED 10,000 TO 17,000 MILES. THIS INFORMATION IS NOT KNOWN TO THE CONSUMER EVEN THOUGH IT IS WIDELY DOCUMENTED WITHIN GMC. THIS IS A KNOWN HAZARD THAT SHOULD BE DISCLOSED AND FIXED VIA A VEHICLE RECALL BY GMC. INSTEAD GMC PUTS THE EXPENSE OF THE REPAIR ON THE CONSUMER WHO IS UNFAIRLY, AND UNREASONABLE CAUGHT OFF GUARDS PAYING UPWARDS OF $35K FOR A NEW 1999 VEHICLE UNAWARE THAT THEY WILL NEED TO SPEND ADDITIONAL MONIES TO REPLACE THE BRAKES EVERY 10,000-17,000 MILES. THE DEALER TOLD ME THAT THE SQUEAKING OF MY BRAKES IS THE ONLY WARNING SIGN THE VEHICLE GIVES THE UNSUSPECTING OWNER THAT THE BRAKES HAVE DETERIORATED. THIS CONDITION IS A SAFETY HAZARD THAT WILL ENDANGER LIVES AND GMC SHOULD STAND BEHIND THEIR VEHICLES AND BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE FOR THE BRAKE REPAIRS NOT THE UNSUSPECTING CONSUMER WHO BOUGHT THE VEHICLE IN GOOD FAITH AND IS NOW "STIFFED WITH A BILL" FOR COSTLY REPAIRS ON A NEW VEHICLE 1999 THAT HAS BY ALL STANDARDS HAS LOW MILEAGE.

THE CLAIM BY THE SERVICE PEOPLE WAS THAT GMC HAS CHANGED OUT THE BRAKE PADS TO A SOFTER COMPOUND AND THEY WILL NOT LAST MORE THAN 20-25000 MILES. THE IMMEDIATENESS OF THE FAILURE ( IE. THE WEAR INDICATORS DID NOT WORK PROPERLY) MAY HAVE BEEN MORE DANGEROUS IF WE WOULD HAVE BEEN IN A HEAVY TRAFFIC AREA.*AK

THE CLAIM BY THE SERVICE PEOPLE WAS THAT GMC HAS CHANGED OUT THE BRAKE PADS TO A SOFTER COMPOUND AND THEY WILL NOT LAST MORE THAN 20-25000 MILES. THE IMMEDIATENESS OF THE FAILURE ( IE.
