I LOST BRAKING ON MY 2001 GMC YUKON 4 WD TWICE DURING THE LAST MONTH, FIRST TIME I HAD 3 BRAKE LINES REPLACED THAT HAD FAILED DUE TO CORROSTON, THEN A WEEK LATER ANOTHER BRAKE LINE FAILED WHILE I WAS TOWING A BOAT. I HAD TO DOWN SHIFT TO PREVENT A CRASH. I HAVE SPEND OVER $1500 REPLACING ABS SENSORS, BRAKE LINES, ROTORS AND EMERGENCY BRAKE PARTS, ALL FAILED FROM CORRISION. NOTHING BUT BRAKE PROBLEMS WITH THIS YUKON WITH ONLY 36K MILES .IN THE REPAIR SHOP NOW.

PARKING BRAKE FAILURE EVERY YEAR FOR THE PAST 3 YEARS. YUKON XL WILL NOT PASS STATE INSPECTION DUE TO PARKING BRAKE FAILURE. HAVE REPLACED REAR ROTORS DUE TO PARKING BRAKE SHOE MALFUNCTION. REAR BRAKE SHOE DOES NOT DISENGAGE AND WEARS PREMATURELY CAUSING PARKING BRAKE FAILURE AND ROTOR DAMAGE EVERY YEAR THAT STATE INSPECTION IS REQUIRED. *JB

UPON MOVING TO HOUSTON, I HAD AN INSPECTION PERFORMED ON MY 2001 GMC YUKON. IT WAS FOUND THAT THE PARKING BRAKE HAD BECOME ENGAGED, EVEN THOUGH I DO NOT EVEN USE IT, AND DESTROYED MY REAR LEFT ROTOR, BRAKE PADS, AND EMERGENCY BRAKE PADS. IN ADDITION TO REPLACING THE ROTOR AND ALL BRAKE PADS ON THE REAR LEFT, I ALSO HAD TO HAVE THE BRAKE PADS ON THE RIGHT REAR REPLACED AS WELL. I HAVE BEEN DRIVING FOR AN UNKNOWN AMOUNT OF TIME WITH NO REAR BRAKE PADS OR EMERGENCY BRAKE. IN OTHER WORDS, HAD I PARKED MY CAR ON AN INCLINE AND USED THE PARKING BRAKE, IT WOULD NOT HOLD MY CAR. I ALSO HAD NO REAR BRAKES IF MY FRONT BRAKES HAD FAILED. I HAVE READ FORUMS ONLINE AND HAVE DISCOVERED THIS TO BE A PROBLEM WITH SEVERAL OTHER 2001 YUKON OWNERS. I BOUGHT THE CAR NEW IN 2001 AND HAVE HAD NO NEED FOR MY PARKING BRAKE. THE TOTAL DAMAGES WERE OVER $500 AND THERE IS NO GUARANTEE THIS WILL NOT HAPPEN AGAIN AS THERE IS NO INDICATION WHEN AND IF THE PARKING BRAKE ACTIVATES ITSELF. THE INDICATOR LIGHT DOES NOT COME ON AND THE PARKING BRAKE IS FULLY DISENGAGED. *JB

PARKING BRAKE WILL NOT HOLD. VEHICLE WILL ROLL BACK WITH THE BRAKE FULLY APPLIED. VEHICLE HAS 35000 MILES. BRAKE HAS BEEN USED ONLY ABOUT 10 TIMES OVER THE LIFE OF THE VEHICLE. DEALER STATES THE BRAKE CANNOT BE ADJUSTED. THIS IS A SERIOUS DEFECT. *JB

THE CONSUMER EXPERIENCED VARIOUS STEERING, SUSPENSION AND TRANSFER CASE PROBLEMS WITH HER 2001 GMC YUKON. *NM THE CIGARETTE LIGHTER WAS HANGING OUT. THE DEALER REPLACED THE HOUSING AND ELEMENT. THE PARKING BRAKE SHOES WERE REPLACED. TEFLON GREASE WAS INSTALLED ON DRIVESHAFT TO ALLEVIATE THE BUMPINESS IN THE REAR. LICENSE PLATE LIGHT FOGGED UP. THE DEALER REPLACED THE LAMP. THE DRIVESHAFT WAS REPLACED ALONG WITH THE YOKE AT THE REAR U-JOINT. THE CONSUMER HEARD A CLUNKING NOISE WHEN PUTTING THE VEHICLE IN REVERSE. THE DEALER DETERMINED THAT THE TRANSFER CASE CHAIN HAD STRETCHED. THE DEALER R AND R THE TRANSFER CASE AND REPLACED THE CHAIN. *NM

DT: 2001 GMC YUKON. THERE WAS A RECALL #05042, FOR THE PARKING BRAKE, HOWEVER THE RECALL DID PERTAIN TO THE CONSUMERS VEHICLE. THE PARKING BRAKE DID NOT WORK. THIS STARTED APPROXIMATELY MAY 25, 2002. THE BRAKES DRAGGED AND EVENTUALLY WORE OUT BECAUSE OF A SPRING THAT WAS NOT WORKING PROPERLY WHEN THE PARKING BRAKE WAS RELEASED. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN IN TO BE SERVICED FOR THIS PROBLEM, BUT WAS DIAGNOSED BY AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. *JB UPDATED 1/4/2006 - *NM

PARKING BRAKE DID NOT HOLD. 1 ROTOR WAS BAD AND PARKING BRAKE SHOES WERE BAD. EVEN AFTER REPAIR, PARKING BRAKE GOES ALL THE WAY TO FLOOR. I BELIEVE BRAKE SHOES WERE DEFECTIVE WHEN VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED. THIS IS POOR ENGINEERING ON GM'S PART. I THINK I SHOULD BE REIMBURSED FULLY FOR REPAIRS ON PARKING BRAKE. SINCE THERE WAS A SERVICE BULLETIN TO DEALERS, I THINK THE CUSTOMER SHOULD HAVE BEEN ADVISED. THIS WAS VERY UNSAFE. WE HAD TO PAY $439.47 FOR SOMETHING THAT SHOULD NOT HAVE HAPPENED. THIS WAS ON 2001 GMC YUKON.

WHILE APPLYING THE EMERGENCY BRAKES. THE BRAKE FAILED TO HOLD. THE DRIVER NOTICED WHILE DRIVING,THE BRAKE LIGHT APPEARED ON THE DASHBOARD AND REMAINED ON. THE CONSUMER DROVE TO THE DEALER FOR AM INSPECTION. THE MECHANIC INFORMED THE CONSUMER THAT THE SENSOR FOR THE EMERGENCY BRAKE, AND THE MASTER CYLINDER NEEDED TO BE REPLACEMED. MY 2001 GMC YUKON WITH 4-WHEEL DISC BRAKES FAILED STATE INSPECTION DUE TO WORN OUT (NON-FUNCTIONING) EMERGENCY BRAKES. I HAVE ONLY USED THEM FOR PARKING ABOUT 10 TIMES & NEVER FOR EMERGENCY STOPPING. THE DEALER WHO REPAIRED THEM, TOLD ME THAT DUE TO A CLIP DESIGN PROBLEM, THEY TYPICALLY WORE OUT WITHOUT USE, RIGHT AFTER THE TRUCK WAS PURCHASED. THE LININGS WOULD NOT REMAIN STRAIGHT & WOULD WEAR PREMATURELY. THEY CHARGED ME FOR SOME OF THE REPAIR ($100) BUT IT SEEMS THAT IT SHOULD BE COVERED AS A RECALL. *AK

THE VIN NUMBER IS [XXX] ON FEBRUARY 12, 2002, AT 9AM I HAD AN APPOINTMENT AT CLYDE REVORD TO HAVE MY OIL CHANGED AND MY EMERGENCY BRAKE ADJUSTED ON MY 2001 GMC YUKON XL WITH 22400 MILES. AFTER CHANGING THE OIL THE SERVICE WRITER TOLD ME THAT THE EMERGENCY BRAKE COULD NOT BE ADJUSTED BECAUSE IT HAD BEEN WORN DOWN DUE TO THE FACT IT HAD BEEN LEFT ON. I PROCEEDED TO TELL THEM THAT IT HAD NOT BEEN LEFT ON. AT THAT POINT THE MECHANIC CHIMED IN AND STATED THAT HE COULD PROVE THAT IT WAS LEFT ON. HE TOOK ME OUT TO THE SHOP AND POINTED OUT THAT THERE WAS A LOT OF BRAKE DUST INDICATING IT HAD BEEN LEFT ON. HE THEN STATED HOWEVER THAT HE PERSONALLY HAS SEEN A LOT OF THESE IN FOR THE SAME PROBLEM. OF COURSE WHAT THAT MEANT WAS THAT THEY WERE NOT WILLING TO COVER IT UNDER WARRANTY. I CONTACTED GMC AND THEY CALLED THE DEALER AND THROUGH THEIR CORRESPONDENCE THEY DETERMINED THAT DUE TO THE FACT THAT THERE ARE NO SERVICE BULLETINS AND NO ACTIVE RECALLS AND BY WHAT THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT AT CLYDE REVORD TOLD THEM ! THAT THEY COULD NOT COVER IT UNDER WARRANTY. I DID SOME INVESTIGATING OF MY OWN BY CALLING SPEEDWAY CHEVROLET, THE SERVICE WRITER THERE TOLD ME THAT INDEED THERE IS AN ISSUE OF THE EMERGENCY BRAKES BEING OVER TIGHTENED FROM THE FACTORY AND THAT HE PERSONALLY HAS SEEN 40 OR SO VEHICLES IN FOR THE SAME ISSUE AND THAT HIS OWN VEHICLE IS BEING SERVICED FOR THE SAME THING. I THEN CALLED CLYDE REVORD BACK AND SPOKE WITH FRANK THE SERVICE MANAGER. HE STATED THAT HE HAS NO EVIDENCE OF THERE BEING A PROBLEM WITH THE EMERGENCY BRAKE AND HE DIDN'T KNOW WHERE SPEEDWAY CHEVROLET WAS GETTING THEIR INFO AND THAT "THAT'S A BUNCH OF BOLOGNA" HE ALSO STATED THAT CONTRARY TO THERE POLICY OF PROVIDING EXCELLENT CUSTOMER SERVICE THAT THEY WERE NOT WILLING TO HELP ME OR COVER THIS ISSUE UNDER WARRANTY. I THEN CONTACTED SMOKEY POINT PONTIAC GMC AND THEY TOO HAVE SEEN ISSUES WITH THESE EMERGENCY BRAKES AND SET UP AN APPOINTMENT TO HAVE IT REPAIRED UNDER WARRANTY ON FEBRUARY 25, 2002.
