I BELIEVE THAT THERE MAY BE POOR VIBRATIONAL DESIGN OR QUALITY CONTROL FOR THE LEFT FOOT SHIFTER LINKAGE THAT CONNECTS TO THE TRANSMISSION. I WAS GOING UPHILL AND NOTICED THE BIKE LOSE SPEED WHEN SHIFTING TO 4TH AND 5TH GEAR. AFTER A COUPLE OF HILLS, AS I WAS GOING DOWNHILL THE SHIFTER WOULD NOT DOWNSHIFT. I PULLED OVER AND SAW THAT THE BOLT WAS ALMOST OUT OF THE SHIFTER LINKAGE AND THAT THE FASTENERS WERE NOWHERE TO BE FOUND. POSSIBLY POORLY TORQUED OR NOT ENOUGH VIBRATIONAL PROTECTION. HAPPENED AROUND 70 MILES ON BIKE. BIKE IS BEING TRANSPORTED TO SHOP TOMORROW

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2015 HARLEY-DAVIDSON XG750. WHILE DRIVING AT 5 MPH, THE MOTORCYCLE PERFORMED AS IF IT WOULD STALL. THE VEHICLE UNEXPECTEDLY ACCELERATED AND CAUSED THE CONTACT TO LOSE CONTROL AND CRASH INTO A CEMENT MEDIAN. A POLICE REPORT WAS NOT FILED. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED INJURIES TO THE LEFT FOREARM AND LEFT LEG, A CONTUSION TO THE RIGHT SHIN AND KNUCKLE, AND LEFT WRIST DISLOCATION THAT REQUIRED MEDICAL ATTENTION. THE MOTORCYCLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER AFTER THE CRASH. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 826.

AFTER ABOUT 100 MILES ON TANK OF GAS THE BIKE STARTED TO BUCK FROM TAKE OFF AND UNTIL SECOND GEAR WAS APPLIED. THIS HAS HAPPENED ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS AROUND THE SAME AMOUNT OF MILEAGE AND FUEL LIGHT WAS NOT ON EITHER TIME. WHEN FILL UP WITH GAS IT ONLY TAKES 2 GALLONS AT MOST MEANING STILL HAD 1.5 GALLONS LEFT.

MOTORCYCLE LAGGED AND LEAPED ACCELERATING FROM A STOP WHILE LOW ON FUEL - THIS PROBLEM WAS SAID TO BE REMEDIED AFTER BRINGING IT UP WITH A DEALER AND THEY INSTALLED A NEW FUEL PUMP... HOWEVER THE PROBLEM SEEMS TO HAVE RETURNED. ACCELERATION SEEMS TO STUTTER THEN RETURN AT FULL FORCE IN A SPLIT SECOND, CAUSING LOSS OF TRACTION AND STEERING. CANNOT STRESS ENOUGH HOW DANGEROUS THIS IS DRIVING IN AN URBAN ENVIRONMENT.

FROM A COMPLETE STOP, I ACCELERATED SLOWLY DOWN MY GRAVEL DRIVEWAY TOWARD THE PUBLIC STREET. AS I ACCELERATED AND LEANED LEFT SLIGHTLY TO FOLLOW THE PATH OF THE DRIVEWAY, THE MOTORCYCLE STALLED MOMENTARILY AND THEN IMMEDIATELY ACCELERATED RAPIDLY. I GRABBED THE FRONT BRAKE AND PRESSED DOWN ON THE REAR BRAKE SIMULTANEOUSLY AND THE BIKE SLID AND LAID DOWN. AFTER RECOVERING AND ASSESSING THE SITUATION, I RODE CAUTIOUSLY ON THE PUBLIC STREET TO THE NEAREST GAS STATION AND TOPPED UP THE TANK. AFTER RIDING SEVERAL MILES AND UPON COMING TO A COMPLETE STOP AT A STOP LIGHT, I ATTEMPTED TO ACCELERATE AT THE INTERSECTION AND THE BIKE AGAIN STALLED MOMENTARILY AND THEN ACCELERATED RAPIDLY. THE SAME STALLING OCCURRED MULTIPLE TIMES AT THE SAME AND MULTIPLE SUCCESSIVE INTERSECTIONS. AT NO TIME DID THE LOW FUEL INDICATOR APPEAR LIT ON THE BIKE. AT LAST FAILURE, THE BIKE HAD ROUGHLY ONE-HALF TANK OF FUEL. AT 88 MILES ON THE ODOMETER, MY HUSBAND RODE THE BIKE TO THE DEALER ON 5/23/2015 TO HAVE IT INSPECTED. THERE WERE 95 MILES ON THE ODOMETER WHEN HE DELIVERED THE BIKE TO THE DEALER. THE SERVICE MANAGER AT THE DEALER IMPLIED THERE WAS SIMPLY A LACK OF FUEL IN THE TANK. AFTER HAVING THE BIKE FOR SEVERAL DAYS, THE SERVICE MANAGER CONFIRMED THEY WERE ABLE TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM WHILE RIDING THE BIKE. THEY'VE HAD THE BIKE FOR NEARLY 4 WEEKS; 2 WEEKS LONGER THAN I HAD THE BIKE. THE SERVICE PERSONNEL HAVE SINCE INDICATED THEY WON'T HAVE PARTS TO RESOLVE THE ISSUE UNTIL AT LEAST THE THIRD WEEK OF JULY, 2015; OTHER DEALERS ASSERT AUGUST. THE BIKE WAS PURCHASED ON MAY 9TH, 2015 AND HAD BEEN RIDDEN TWICE BY ME BEFORE IT WAS RETURNED FOR WARRANTY REPAIR. INITIALLY, THE DEALER SERVICE PERSONNEL ASSERTED THE REPAIRS WEREN'T LIKELY TO BE COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. THEY'VE NOT YET CONFIRMED THAT POSITION. MY HUSBAND'S IDENTICAL MOTORCYCLE HAS THE SAME ISSUE. THE BIKE IS UNSAFE. *TR

THIS VEHICLE WILL HESITATE WHEN ACCELERATING FROM A FULL STOP AND THEN FEEL AS IF IT IS ABOUT TO STALL THEN SURGE. THE PATTERN MAY REPEAT SEVERAL TIMES OVER SEVERAL SECONDS BEFORE THERE IS CONSISTENT FULL POWER. IT HAPPENES WHEN THERE IS ABOUT 85-90 MILES DRIVEN ON A FULL TANK. I WAS ALMOST REAR-ENDED SEVERAL TIMES RECENTLY SINCE THE DRIVER BEHIND ME REASONABLY EXPECTED THAT I WOULD BE ABLE TO MAINTAIN ACCELERATION AWAY FROM THE STOP. FURTHERMORE, IT IS NEARLY IMPOSSIBLE TO MAINTAIN CONTROL OF A TURN FROM A STOP WHEN THE BIKE IS HESITATING AND SURGING THROUGHOUT THE TURN. THIS IS AN EXTREMELY DANGEROUS SITUATION, ESPECIALLY SINCE I AM A RELATIVELY NEW RIDER. HD APPEARS TO BE SPECIFICALLY TARGETING NEW DRIVERS WITH THIS BIKE, MAKING IT EVEN MORE DISTURBING AND LIKELY TO CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. MY HUSBAND, WHO IS AN EXPERIENCED RIDER, DROVE THE BIKE AND HAD THE EXACT SAME EXPERIENCE. FILLING THE GAS TANK RESOLVED THE PROBLEM. I AM EXTREMELY NERVOUS TO DRIVE THIS BIKE WITH THE POTENTIAL FOR THIS PROBLEM TO RETURN. (I BELIEVE THIS IS SIMILAR TO WHAT IS CURRENTLY BEING INVESTIGATED UNDER NHTSA ACTION NUMBER: PE15015).

WHEN ACCELERATING AWAY FROM A TRAFFIC LIGHT, THE BIKE HESITATED, THEN DUMPED ALL ITS POWER INTO THE ACTION, RESULTING IN A "LAG-LEAP" EFFECT. IT'S DONE IT 2-3 TIMES SINCE THE INITIAL INSTANCE.

MOTORCYCLE LURCHES AND CHOKES WHEN IN 1ST AND 2ND GEAR LEAVING A STOP LIGHT. TANK WAS A LITTLE MORE THAN HALF FULL. FILLED UP TANK AND IT STOPPED THE ISSUE. GAS TANK IS NOT EMPTY ENOUGH TO CAUSE LOW GAS INDICATOR TO COME ON SO UNAWARE WHEN THE LURCHING WILL HAPPEN. I HAVE NOT NOTIFIED HARLEY YET BECAUSE IT IS SUNDAY AND I WILL HAVE TO WAIT TIL TUESDAY TO CONTACT THE DEALER. *TR

AS I ENTERED AN INTERSECTION IN 1ST GEAR, THE MOTORCYCLE FAILED TO ACCELERATE AND THEN SURGED FORWARD. I HAD JUST GOTTEN MY MOTORCYCLE ENDORSEMENT AND HAD VERY LITTLE RIDING EXPERIENCE. FORTUNATELY, I WAS ABLE TO MAINTAIN CONTROL OF THE MOTORCYCLE. ANOTHER INCIDENT HAPPENED SOON AFTER AS I WAS TAKING A RIGHT HAND CURVE. I WAS IN SECOND GEAR AND SLOWED AS I APPROACHED THE RIGHT HAND CURVE. I ATTEMPTED TO ACCELERATE THROUGH THE CURVE AND THE MOTORCYCLE LAGGED AND THEN SUDDENLY LEAPED FORWARD, CAUSING ME TO FISHTAIL AND ALMOST RUN OFF OF THE ROAD. FORTUNATELY, I WAS ABLE TO MAINTAIN CONTROL AND PREVENT A CRASH. ON 1/7/2015, THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN TO THE DEALER WITH APPROXIMATELY 120 MILES ON IT FOR AN INSPECTION OF THE PROBLEM. THE DEALER TOLD ME THAT THEY WERE ABLE TO REPRODUCE THE PROBLEM; HOWEVER, I WAS MERELY LOW ON FUEL. I TOLD THE DEALER THAT THE LOW FUEL LIGHT INDICATOR NEVER ACTIVATED. THEY FILLED THE TANK WITH GAS AND THE PROBLEM DID NOT REOCCUR. THEY WERE ALSO ABLE TO GET THE LOW FUEL LIGHT INDICATOR TO ACTIVATE AT APPROXIMATELY 0.8 OF A GALLON. THEY ALSO PUT THE VEHICLE ON THE DYNO AND WERE NOT ABLE TO REPRODUCE THE PROBLEM WHEN FUEL WAS PRESENT. THE DEALER TOLD ME TO KEEP A GALLON OF GAS IN THE TANK AT ALL TIMES TO KEEP THE FUEL PUMP WET. ON 4/19/2015, THE VEHICLE EXHIBITED LAG AND LEAP IN FIRST THROUGH FOURTH GEARS AND THE ENGINE DIED MULTIPLE TIMES ON A MAJOR THOROUGHFARE. I WAS UNDER THE IMPRESSION THAT I WAS LOW ON FUEL, SO I TRIED TO MAKE A U-TURN AT AN INTERSECTION INTO A GAS STATION. I WAS UNABLE TO GET THE VEHICLE TO SAFELY ENGAGE IN 1ST GEAR WITHOUT SURGING AND/OR DYING, SO I PUSHED THE BIKE TO THE NEARBY FUEL PUMP. I WAS SHOCKED TO SEE THAT I HAD SUFFICIENT FUEL AND ADDED 1.2 GALLONS TO THE 3.5 GALLON TANK. AFTER FUELING, THE VEHICLE WAS SPUTTERING WHILE IDLING. I DROVE HOME AT LESS THAN 30 MPH LAGGING AND LEAPING THE WHOLE WAY WITH NO CRASH. *TR

AT THE DEALER, I TEST TRIED THE X500. AT THE FIRST STOP SIGN, I ACCELERATED AND THE MOTORCYCLE STALLED. WHEN I DECELERATED, THE GAS IN THE GAS TANK MOVED AND THE BIKE RAN AGAIN. I WENT BACK TO THE DEALER IMMEDIATELY AND REPORTED THE PROBLEM, EXPLAINING WHAT HAD JUST HAPPENED. THEY TOLD ME THAT IT MUST HAVE BEEN THE GOVERNOR. I ASKED FOR THE X750, EVERYTHING WENT PERFECT AND I BOUGHT IT. THE FIRST INCIDENT OCCURRED AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT. I ACCELERATED AND THE BIKE STALLED. ONCE I DECELERATED AND GAS IN THE TANK MOVED AGAIN. I IMMEDIATELY WENT TO GAS STATION AND FILLED THE GAS TANK WITH 2.134 GALLONS AT ONLY 99 MILES. THE SECOND 2ND INCIDENT, SAME ACCELERATE IN A LIGHT TURNING RIGHT CARS BEHIND ME, STALLS AND GET GAS WHEN I SHIFT TO SECOND, SAME IMMEDIATELY GAS STATION, THIS TIME FILL THE GAS TANK WITH 2.469 GALLONS ONLY 190MILES.CAPACITIES SAY, I KNOW YOU HAVE IT: FUEL TANK 3.5 GALLONS, LOW FUEL INDICATOR 0.8 GALLON. I WILL FILL THE TANK EACH 100 MILES UNTIL THEY CHANGE MY GAS TANK WITH COMPARTMENTS INSIDE SO THE GAS DOESN'T GO ALL THE WAY BACK AND THE GAS PUMP CAN SUCK IT. IS REALLY DANGER WITH VEHICLES PUSHING BEHIND MY BACK. I'M AN EXPERT RIDER, HOPE THE ROOKIES DON'T SUFFER AN ACCIDENT. ANOTHER RECALL TO MAKE: WITH THE REAR MIRROR'S YOU ARE NOT ABLE TO SEE THE VEHICLES BEHIND YOU, MY BODY BLOCKS COMPLETE THE REAR VIEW. *TR

WHILE RIDING ON THE FREEWAY I TRIED TO ACCELERATE, I WAS LOWER ON GAS (APPROXIMATELY, 1 - 1.25 GALLON LEFT). THE BIKE ONLY HAS A 3.5 GALLON TANK, AS I ATTEMPTED TO ACCELERATE WHILE PASSING A VEHICLE IN TRAFFIC, THE BIKE LAGGED, NO RESPONSE FOR A QUARTER TO HALF SECOND, AND THEN SUDDENLY IT LEAPED FORWARD AND THEN LAGGED AGAIN. IT CONTINUED TO DO THIS FOR A SECOND OR TWO UNTIL I RELEASED THE THROTTLE AND ACCELERATED VERY SLOWLY. THIS WAS A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION AS I WAS SHARING A LANE TO PASS (AS ALLOWED IN CALIFORNIA), AND THIS HAPPEN LEAVING ME STUCK BETWEEN TWO VEHICLES. THIS HAS HAPPENED MANY TIMES BEFORE, BUT ONLY WHEN I LOW GAS (GAS LIGHT IS ON). *TR
