1992 HONDA ACCORD. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO ENGINE PROBLEMS. *LD THE CONSUMER STATED THE VEHICLE HAD MULTIPLE FAILURES AND STALLED WHILE BEING DRIVEN. THE CONSUMER STATED THE FUEL SYSTEM, ABS SYSTEM, ENGINE, POWER STEERING, AND ELECTRICAL SYSTEM FAILED. THE CONSUMER STATED THE RECALL REPAIRS NEED TO BE COMPLETED. *JS
THE CAR WILL NOT GO INTO DRIVE. IT MAKES A HORRIBLE NOISE LIKE SOMETHING IS FALLING OUT UNDER THE HOOD AND WILL GO INTO REVERSE AND ALL OTHE GEARS BUT NOT DRIVE.

I AM THE SECOND OWNER OF THE 1992 HONDA ACCORD. I HAVE EXPERIENCED AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION FAILURE ON THIS VEHICLE THAT WILL GENERALLY REQUIRE OVERHAUL OR REPLACEMENT OF THE TRANSMISSION. AFTER SEVERAL ON-LINE RESEARCHES ON HONDA ACCORDS 1990 TO DATE, I FIND NUMEROUS PROBLEMS, I.E., ACCELERATION FAILURE. WHEN ENGINE GETS HOT, THE CAR HAS ACCELERATION FAILURE. EVEN FURTHER RESEARCH REVEALS ?CERTIFIED TRANSMISSION MECHANICS REVEALED THAT THIS KNOWN PREMATURE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION FAILURE IS DUE TO AN ENGINEERING DESIGN FLAW. IN ADDITION, ?THIS DESIGN FLAW CONSISTS OF THE HONDA ACCORD AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION NOT HAVING OUTSIDE ACCESS TO THE METAL SCREEN INTERNAL TRANSMISSION FILTER WHICH BECOMES CLOGGED WITH GUNK AND METAL SHAVINGS, THUS STARVING THE TRANSMISSION, WHICH CAUSES OVERHEATING, AND FURTHER DETERIORATION AND PREMATURE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION FAILURE.? THERE IS NO WAY TO GAIN ACCESS TO THE METAL AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION FILTER BECAUSE THERE IS NO TRANSMISSION PAN TO UNBOLT AND ALLOW ACCESS. COMPLETE DISASSEMBLE OF THE TRANSMISSION IS REQUIRED. THIS SERIOUS TRANSMISSION PROBLEM WILL BE REPORTED TO THE U.S. GOVERNMENT NATIONAL HIGHWAY TRAFFIC SAFETY ADMINISTRATION (NHTSA) DECLARING THE TRANSMISSION PROBLEM IS A MAJOR SAFETY HAZARD. *TR

THE CAR IS GOT SOME ELECTRICAL SHORTS IN THE WIRE MY MAINTENANCE SAID, AND NOW IT HAS A PROBLEM SHIFTING INTO ALL THE GEARS, IT STALLS WHEN YOU GO TO TAKE OFF, IT DON'T SEEM LIKE IT HAS ANY POWER BEHIND IT. IT HAPPENS EVERY TIME YOU GO TO TAKE OFF IT STALLS. *TR
A FAULTY TRANSMISSION CONTROL UNIT, CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO AT RANDOM SHIFT IN TO AN IMPROPER GEAR OR INTO NEUTRAL AT OR DURING TAKE OFF FROM STOP. THIS RESULTED IN LOSS OF POWER WHEN TRYING TO JOIN TRAFFIC, OR ONCE ALREADY IN TRAFFIC. TCU WOULD ALSO FAIL TO LOCK OR UNLOCK T/C WHEN IT WAS DESIGNED TO. ON ONE OCCASION THE TCU LOCKED THE T/C AT A STOP LIGHT, STALLING THE ENGINE IN TRAFFIC. TCU FAILED TO ALERT THE DRIVER OF A PROBLEM THROUGH THE D4 OR CHECK ENGINE LAMPS, AND PRODUCED NON EXISTENT CODES WHEN PUT INTO DIAGNOSTIC MODE. *TR

D4 LIGHT COMES ON AND STAYS ON FOR 10 MINUTES. TRANSMISSION HUNTS FOR GEARS AT CRUISING SPEEDS WITHOUT WARNING, OFTEN LANDING NO GEAR, CAUSING A SCARY SCENARIO. A WEB SEARCH REVEALED THOUSANDS OF COMPLAINTS BY 1989 TO 1993 OWNERS OF THAT MODEL HONDA ACCORD WHO ARE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM. IT IS SUPPOSEDLY A FAILURE OF THE TRANSMISSION COMPUTER. HONDA DEALERS HAVE NO SAFETY OR MAINTENANCE RECALL/BULLETIN ON THIS ISSUE. THEY OFFER TO REPLACE THE TCM (GUESS THAT IS THE COMPUTER) FOR $570.00 PLUS LABOR! SEVERAL HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS OF THESE YEARS' MODELS WERE SOLD AND ARE ON THE ROAD. IF A COMPUTER FAILURE PUTS THE DRIVER AND THE TRAFFIC AT DANGER BECAUSE THE CAR CHOOSES A DIFFERENT GEAR OR NO GEAR, THE MANUFACTURER SHOULD FIX THE DAMAGED COMPUTER COMPONENT OR WHATEVER THE FAILED COMPONENT. SINCE SUCH SHEER NUMBERS ARE INVOLVED THE NHTSA SHOULD INVESTIGATE THE MATTER INDEPENDENTLY. *JB

AT 25MPH, THE TRANSMISSION SUDDENLY DISENGAGED, AND I DRIFTED TO A STOP. THE TRANSMISSION WOULD NOT ENGAGE IN ANY GEAR. THE CAR ONLY HAD 71,000 MILES ON IT.
VEHICLE WAS PLACED IN PARK AFTER DRIVING. DID NOT HOLD VEHICLE, AND VEHICLE ROLLED IN TO A LAWN. CAUSE UNKNOWN. *AK
