The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that there was high resistance in the front driver's side air bag due to the air bag connector failure. The dealer diagnosed that the air bag needed to be replaced. The vehicle was then taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the air bag was defective and needed to be replaced. The contact associated the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 20V026000 (Air Bags). The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that they could not assist as the VIN was not included. The failure mileage was approximately 155,000.

MY VEHICLE WAS IN THE LEFT TURN LANE WAITING FOR THE LIGHT TO TURN GREEN. I WENT AND DIDNT REALIZE THE FAR RIGHT LANE WAS FOR PARKING ONLY ON A 1 WAY STREET LEFT HEADED EAST IT WAS A 1 WAY WITH 2 LANES MOVING FORWARD A 1 LANE NEXT TO THE CURB WHERE VEHICLES PARK IN FRONT OF THERE RESIDENTS. I SLAMMED INTO THE BACK OF THE PARKED WHITE CHEVY TRUCK. MY VEHICLE CAME TO A SUDDEN STOP FORCING MY BODY FORWARD TOWARDS THE WINDSHIELD. MY SEATBELT ONLY RESTRAINED MY BODY SO FAR SO I USED MY FOOT TO APPLY THE BRAKE. MY CARS PASSENGER SIDE AIR BAG DID DEPLOY BUT THE DRIVERS SIDE DID NOT. MY VEHICLE NEEDED TO BE TOWED BECAUSE IT WAS NOT DRIVABLE. I THEN LATER HAD A FRIEND DRIVE ME TO THE EMERGENCY ROOM. I DIDNT WANT TO GO BY AMBULANCE DUE TO PANDEMIC IN PLACE. ABOUT 2 TO 3 WEEKS LATER I RECIEVED THE RECALL LETTER IN MY MAILBOX. SINCE THE ACCIDENT I HAVE BEEN UNABLE TO WORK OR EVEN DAILY FUNCTIONS. I HAVE A CRUSHED HEEL AND UNABLE TO WALK. SEVER PAIN AND SWELLING. MY LIFE HAS COMPLETELY CHANGED.

I WAS DRIVING AT A VERY SLOW SPEED OF 15 MPH ON 11/21/14. I TAPPED A CURB IN A PARKING LOT AND THE AIRBAGS DEPLOYED. AN OFFICER WAS CALLED TO THE SCENE AND WAS ALSO SURPRISED THAT THE AIRBAGS DEPLOYED WITHOUT ANY FRONT-END DAMAGE OR WITH SUCH A SLIGHT IMPACT. A MECHANIC ALSO VERIFIED THAT THERE WAS NO UNDER-CARRIAGE DAMAGE AND WAS ALSO PUZZLED AS TO WHY THIS HAPPENED. WE CONTACTED HONDA OF AMERICA WHO WAS NOT ONLY RUDE BUT WAS NOT THE LEAST BIT HELPFUL. WE ARE HOPING FOR SOME ASSISTANCE, ESPECIALLY IN LIGHT OF THE VAST RECALL OF THE TAKATA AIRBAGS WHICH IS WHAT WE HAVE. DUE TO THE AGE OF OUR CAR, WE DROPPED THE COLLISION COVERAGE AND THE AIRBAGS WERE CONSIDERED TO BE COVERED UNDER COLLISION. THIS CAR'S AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT HAS BEEN ON FOR AWHILE. THIS EXACT MAKE/MODEL/YEAR HAVE BEEN PART OF A VERY LARGE RECALL BUT THIS SPECIFIC CAR'S VIN WASN'T LISTED AS PART OF IT. I CONTACTED HONDA MORE THAN THREE WEEKS AGO AND WAS ASSIGNED A RECALL CASE MANAGER. THE CASE MANAGER SAID THEY WOULD ADD THIS VIN TO THE AIRBAG RECALL. I'VE LEFT AT LEAST THREE FOLLOW-UP MESSAGES WITH THE CASE MANAGER SINCE THAT TIME. THE VIN IS STILL NOT APPEARING IN DATABASE. WE'VE BEEN UNABLE TO DRIVE CAR FOR WEEKS AS A RESULT OF SAFETY CONCERNS. THERE HAVE BEEN WIDELY PUBLICIZED NEWS REPORTS OF PEOPLE BEING SERIOUSLY INJURED FROM HONDA'S FAULTY AIRBAGS. I OWN A 4 CYLINDER 4 DOOR 1999 HONDA ACCORD LX. THE SRS LIGHT CAME ON WITHOUT REASON IN JUNE OF 2009. I HAVE TAKEN THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER 5 TIMES. EACH TIME THEY RUN A DIAGNOSTIC TEST. THE LIGHT WILL THEN TURN OFF WITHOUT ILLUMINATING THE CAUSE. SHORTLY AFTER PICKING THE CAR UP FROM THE DEALER, THE LIGHT WILL TURN BACK ON. THE AIRBAGS WILL NOT DEPLOY AS LONG AS THE LIGHT IS ON. I BOUGHT A HONDA BECAUSE OF THE SAFETY FEATURES. IT MAKES NO SENSE THAT THEY HAVE A WARRANTY ON THE SEATBELTS BUT NOT THE AIRBAGS. THE AIRBAGS HAVE NEVER BEEN USED. THE DEALER SAYS THAT THE ONLY WAY TO FIX IT IS REPLACE THE AIRBAGS. THIS WILL COST CLOSE TO $1000. I CAN'T AFFORD THAT. EVEN IF I CHOOSE TO START REPLACING THE UNIT, IT WON'T GUARANTEE THAT THE PROBLEM WILL BE SOLVED. THEY DON'T KNOW THE REASON THAT THE SRS LIGHT KEEPS COMING ON.
