The contact owns a 2003 Honda Accord. The contact stated that while the vehicle was parked and occupied, the contact started the vehicle, and the vehicle shut off independently. The “Maintenance Required” message was displayed. The contact stated there was smoke coming from the hood of the vehicle, and several minutes later, the smoke dissipated. The contact stated that a technician from the Auto Care Department at Walmart inspected the vehicle and informed the contact that the positive and negative battery terminals were burned and damaged, as well as a wire near the engine. The technician from Walmart used a diagnostic machine to diagnose the vehicle however, the result was unknown. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 238,000.

Odometer Fraud. The contact purchased a 2003 Honda Accord. It was discovered that there was a mileage discrepancy. The vehicle was a private sale. At the time of purchase, the vehicle mileage was 156,000, and at the time of registration, it was discovered that the mileage was 337,000.

The contact owns a 2003 Honda Accord. The contact stated that there were several mechanical failures with the vehicle. The contact stated that there was a failure with the ignition switch, and the key could not be removed from the cylinder, and the shift lever failed to shift into drive(D), park(P), or into reverse(R). The contact stated that while the vehicle was in drive(D), the drive(D) indicator was flashing. Additionally, the contact had been having a failure of the power steering assist. The contact stated that the steering wheel was difficult to turn to the left or to the right. The contact was unaware of any warning lights during the power steering failure. The contact stated that the power steering failure was recurring. There was also a failure with the transmission. The contact stated that after being able to shift to drive(D), and depressing the accelerator pedal, the vehicle hesitated before responding. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the vehicle was shaking abnormally and hesitating. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact had not taken the vehicle to a local dealer or independent mechanic to be diagnosed or repaired. The contact researched online and found several recalls related to the failures. The manufacturer was informed of the failure, and the contact was advised that two previous recall repairs were completed for the air bags and the ignition, but the VIN was no longer under recall. The failure mileage was approximately 230,000.

My key will not go into the ignition. It also starts to get hot. The steering column also starts to get hot. It also periodically smells like something is burning. The dealership wants to charge me $140 to look at it. I don't have the money. I have not been able to have anybody look at it because I don't have the money. This first happened back in February of 2023 but I got worse around June 1, 2023

Doors locked from inside and cannot get out unless I put my window down. Safety issue. Second time I replaced my door since I was in a car accident a few years ago. Same problem came back again after replacing the door handle it used to work for years at the driver side until recently. Also doors are unable to unlock from the switch.

TAKATA RECALL: MY SON WAS DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE AT OVER 60 MPH WHEN THE SIDE AIRBAG (DRIVER SIDE) SPONTANEOUSLY DEPLOYED. IT SLAMMED INTO HIS LEFT ARM WITH EXTREME FORCE,KNOCKING HIM TOWARD THE PASSENGER DOOR MAKING HIM SWERVE IN FRONT OF AN 18 WHEELER. THE PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG THEN DEPLOYED AND AS HE WAS TRYING TO PULL OFF THE INTERSTATE THE PASSENGER FRONT AIR BAG DEPLOYED. HE WAS ABLE TO STOP IN THE AREA BETWEEN THE ON RAMP AND THE INTERSTATE, AS HE EXITED THE VEHICLE THE DRIVER FRONT AIRBAG DEPLOYED. MAY 2016 THE AIRBAGS AND IGNITION RECALL REPAIRS WERE DONE. AFTER INCIDENT DEALERSHIP RAN DIAGNOSTICS AND SAID ALL HE COULD SEE WAS THAT THERE WAS A PROBLEM WITH THE SRS UNIT. HE ASKED US IF WE HAD MADE ANY ELECTRICAL MODIFICATIONS (WHICH WE HAVEN'T) I ASKED HIM IF THAT PART HAD BEEN CHECKED OR REPLACED DURING THE RECALL AND HE SAID THAT WASN'T PART OF THE RECALL. HE SAID WE SHOULD CALL HONDA CUSTOMER SERVICE. UPON FURTHER INVESTIGATION I LEARNED THERE HAVE BEEN RECALLS ON THE REPLACEMENTS BECAUSE OF MOISTURE BEING INTRODUCED DURING MANUFACTURING.ALSO THERE HAVE BEEN PROBLEMS WITH CORROSION AND MALFUNCTION OF THE SRS UNITS DUE TO EXTREME TEMPERATURES AND HIGH HUMIDITY. AT THE TIME OF THE INCIDENT THE HEAT INDEX WAS 110 AND THE HUMIDITY WAS EXTREMELY HIGH. ARKANSAS IS LOCATED IN THE SECOND OF THREE PRIORITY REGIONS FOR THE SRS RECALL.ALSO WHILE RESEARCHING SPONTANEOUS AIRBAG DEPLOYMENT CAUSES, I LEARNED THAT THE SRS UNIT MOISTURE PROBLEM AND THE DEGRADATION OF ACCELERANT FROM MOISTURE CAN NOT ONLY CAUSE THE AIRBAGS TO NOT DEPLOY ON IMPACT, BUT ALSO CAUSE THEM TO DEPLOY WITH NO IMPACT. THIS INFORMATION SHOULD BE INCLUDED IN THE RECALL INFORMATION AND HONDA SHOULD EXPAND THE SRS RECALL. WE ARE LUCKY LIVES WERE NOT LOST IN THIS INCIDENT, BUT THAT MAY NOT BE THE CASE THE NEXT TIME THIS HAPPENS.

THE CONTACT HAD TO LEAVE THE KEY IN THE IGNITION WITH THE ENGINE RUNNING. ONE HOUR LATER, THE KEY WAS RELEASED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER, BUT THE PART WAS NOT AVAILABLE FOR THE REPAIR. A FEW HOURS LATER, THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE VEHICLE COULD NOT BE SERVICED DUE TO ITS AGE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER AGREED WITH THE DEALER. MY 2003 HONDA ACCORD LX CRASHED ON 10/01/2016 ABOUT 18 MONTHS AFTER I HAD MY AIRBAG SERVICED AT A LOCAL HONDA DEALER 4/7/2015. WHEN I GOT MY CAR BACK FROM THE DEALER, THE DRIVER DOOR HAD NO POWER AND COULD NOT BE OPENED REMOTELY OR WITH THE POWER LOCK CONTROL ON THE DRIVER DOOR. MORE IMPORTANTLY, NO SAFETY SIGNALS CAME ON WHEN THE CAR STARTED. I CALLED THE DEALER AND THEY TOLD ME I HAD TO PAY $80 TO HAVE IT CHECKED; I THEN CALLED AMERICAN HONDA CUSTOMER SERVICE, WHO ONLY DOCUMENTED THE COMPLAINT AND TOOK NO ACTION TO REMEDY MECHANICAL MISTAKE BY HONDA DEALER. I WAS DRIVING ON A DOWNHILL CURVE ON A WET ROAD AFTER A RAIN. WHEN I SAW A SLOWER CAR AHEAD OF ME, I GENTLY APPLIED THE BRAKE TO MAINTAIN A CONSTANT FOLLOWING DISTANCE. THE CAR DRIFTED TO THE LEFT TOWARD ONCOMING TRAFFIC. BUT WHEN I TRIED STEER TO GET BACK TO THE RIGHT LANE AND TRIED TO PRESS ON THE BRAKE, IT LOCKED UP, THEN THE CAR WENT INTO NEUTRAL AND I HAD NO BRAKE AND STEERING RESISTANCE WAS COMPLETELY LAX. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO VEHICLE FACTORY INSTALLED RADIO, COMPONENTS AND BACK LIGHT DEFECT ISSUES. *SMD CONSUMER SENT ADDITIONAL CORRESPONDENCE. *SMD THE CONSUMER STATED RECENTLY, THE CD PLAYER WOULD NOT FUNCTION PROPERLY AND MOST IMPORTANTLY, THE RADIO BEGAN TO MALFUNCTION AND DRAIN THE BATTERY. THE RADIO WOULD FLASH ON AND OFF WHILE BOTH THE RADIO, ALL COMPONENTS AND VEHICLE WERE TURNED OFF AND THE KEY OUT OF THE IGNITION. AFTER SITTING OVERNIGHT, THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT START THE NEXT MORNING. ON TWO OCCASIONS AFTER DRIVING, THE CONSUMER SHUT THE VEHICLE OFF FOR FIVE MINUTES AND IT WOULD NOT RE-START. THE CONSUMER STATED THE VEHICLE WOULD STALL AND IT WAS ALL BECAUSE OF THE DEFECTIVE RADIO. A MECHANIC INFORMED THE CONSUMER, THEY HAD RECENTLY COME ACROSS NUMEROUS 2003-2007 VEHICLE WITH THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM. IT WAS AROUND 12PM AND TRAFFIC WAS MODERATE TO HEAVY. CARS BEHIND ME WERE FORCED TO SLOW AT A SIGNIFICANT RATE, LUCKILY A PILE UP DID NOT OCCUR AS THE LIKELIHOOD OF SUCH A ACCIDENT WAS EXTREMELY POSSIBLE WITH ONE DRIVER NOT FULLY PRESENT I DON'T WANT TO IMAGINE THE POSSIBILITIES. I WAS ABLE TO SEMI SLIDE CAR INTO BREAKDOWN LANE SAFELY ENOUGH AND AAA CAME 1 HOUR LATTER AS THEY LISTED MY CALL A PRIORITY CALL.. I HAD CAR TOWED TO HOME TOWN AND MECHANIC WENT THROUGH CAR IN ITS ENTIRETY TO DISCOVER THAT TRANSMISSION NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MECHANIC TOLD ME THAT THERE WAS A TORQUE CONVERTER THAT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. AFTER DOING ADDITIONAL RESEARCH I FOUND THAT OTHER HONDA OWNERS HAD THIS SAME ISSUE. MY CAR RUMBLES WHEN DRIVING THROUGH RESIDENTIAL AREAS. I CHECKED THE INTERNET, YOUTUBE.COM, MANY OWNERS OF THE SAME MAKE, MODEL & YEAR HAVE THE SAME ISSUES AND PROBLEMS, EVEN THE HONDA CHAT ROOM HELP SITE. I THOUGHT THIS IS AN ISOLATED PROBLEM, BUT IT'S NOT, IF THERE IS SOME WAYS THAT YOUR COMPANY COULD DO SOMETHING ABOUT THIS MATTER/ISSUE CONCERNING THE MANUFACTURER'S (HONDA) DEFECT ISSUE, PLEASE LET US KNOW, WE DON'T WANT TO SHOULDER TO EXPENSES ON THEIR BEHALF. THIS ISSUE HAS OCCURRED SINCE 2008, BUT THOUGHT IT WAS SOMETHING THE DEALERSHIP SERVICE DEPARTMENT DID. THE ISSUE PERIODICALLY OCCURS, BUT DOES CAUSE ME TO STARTLE WHILE DRIVING. IT HAPPENED AGAIN ON YESTERDAY WHILE DRIVING AND PRESSING THE ON AND BUTTON ON THE CONTROL PANEL DID NOT WORK AS USUAL. I HAD TO TURN THE ENGINE OFF TO STOP THE ISSUE. I WENT TO PUT THE KEY IN TO START MY VEHICLE AND THE KEY TOTALLY FELL APART IN MY HAND. IT WAS DARK AND I HAD NO WAY TO START MY CAR. THERE IS A KNOWN PROBLEM WITH THE HONDA ACCORDS 2003-2007 WHERE ONE OF THE COMPONENTS OF THE PRINTED CIRCUIT BOARD ( PCB) WHICH CONTROLS THE CENTER AUDIO CONSOLE FAILS AND THEN THE WHOLE AUDIO CONSOLE GOES DARK. SO WHEN YOU ARE DRIVING THE CAR, YOU CANNOT SEE ANY BUTTON OR KNOB ON THE CENTER CONSOLE. IT'S ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO CHANGE THE HEAT / COOL , THE FAN SPEED OR ANY FUNCTION THAT IS CONTROLLED BY THE COUNTER CONSOLE. HONDA INITIALLY SENT OUT A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN AND THEY EXTENDED THE WARRANTY ON THE AUDIO CONSOLE TO 7 YEARS /100, 000 MILES. BUT THE PROBLEM STILL EXISTS IN A LARGE NUMBER OF CARS. THIS IS NOT LIKE A TRANSMISSION OR A BRAKE ISSUE WHICH CAN WEAR DOWN OVER A NUMBER OF YEARS. THIS IS A PROBLEM WITH THE ELECTRONICS ON THE CAR AND SHOULD BE ESCALATED TO A RECALL. THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS PROBLEM AS THE CONSOLE LIGHTING DOES COMPLETELY DARK AND THE DRIVER CANNOT SEE OR LOCATE ANY CONTROLS WITHIN THE CAR. THIS CAN CAUSE SERIOUS PROBLEM WHEN DRIVING AND SHOULD BE ADDRESSED IMMEDIATELY. HONDA HAS ISSUES A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN NUMBER 04-027. THIS BULLETIN IN THE PROOF THAT HONDA KNOWS ABOUT THE PROBLEM. THE EXTENDED WARRANTY THAT HONDA HAS OFFERED IS OF NO USE BECAUSE A LOT OF PEOPLE WHO HAVE THIS PROBLEM ARE OUT OF THE WARRANTY TERMS ( 7 YEARS // 100,000 MILES) THIS SHOULD BE A RECALL ITEM AND THE NATIONAL HIGHWAY SAFETY INSTITUTE SHOULD FORCE HONDA TO REPAIR THIS COMPONENT IN THE CAR IRRESPECTIVE OF THE MILES OR THE NUMBER OF YEARS. MY 2003 HONDA ACCORD EX DISPLAY LIGHT FOR THE AUDIO/HVAC WENT OUT. THIS IS A REAL PROBLEM BECAUSE IT IS DIFFICULT TO SELECT THE DEFROST/AIR CONDITIONER/RADIO SETTINGS THAT YOU NEED, AND CAN CAUSE A REAL SAFETY HAZARD WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD. HONDA REALIZES THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THEIR PRINTED CIRCUIT BOARD AS THEY HAVE EXTENDED THE WARRANTY ON THIS PART TO 7 YRS/100,000 MILES. HOWEVER, IT IS OBVIOUSLY STILL A PROBLEM AFTER 100,000 MILES AS MINE HAS RECENTLY WENT OUT. SINCE THE PURCHASE I'VE EXPERIENCED CONTINUAL TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS. UPON SPEAKING WITH THE DEALERSHIP I WAS ASSURED ALL WAS FINE. YOU CAN IMAGINE MY SURPRISE WHEN I RECEIVED NOTICE OF THE TRANSMISSION RECALL (NHTSA 04V176000). UPON REPAIR, IN SEPTEMBER 2004, I DID NOT NOTICE REPAIR IMPROVEMENT, AND CONTINUED TO DETECT THE ROUGH GRIND OF TRANSMISSION SHIFT AND A WHINING SOUND. IN 2009 I EXPERIENCED A CATASTROPHIC TRANSMISSION FAILURE TO WHICH I HAD SOUGHT REPAIR. IN DECEMBER 2010 I EXPERIENCED ANOTHER TRANSMISSION FAILURE. I HAVE JUST NOW EXPERIENCED MY 3RD TRANSMISSION FAILURE, JULY 2011. MY POWER STEERING PUMP HAD ALWAYS HAD A FAINT WHINE, BUT HONDA SERVICES NEVER IDENTIFIED IT AS CONCERNING. THE PROBLEM PROGRESSIVELY BECAME WORSE UNTIL HONDA FINALLY SUGGESTED A REPAIR, BUT INFORMED ME THAT THE COMPONENT WAS THEN OUT OF WARRANTY AND WOULD BE A COSTLY REPAIR. I DECIDED TO DELAY REPAIR UNTIL JUNE 2011. AC PROBLEMS MANIFESTED IN SEPTEMBER 2005 AND REQUIRED REPLACEMENT IN APRIL 2008. I FIRST NOTICED ISSUES WITH MY AUTO TRANNY IN MY ACCORD EX V6 AT AROUND 50K MILES. THEY HAD JUST INSTALLED SOME JET FOR THE RECALL FOR HARD SHIFTING FOR THIS CAR. AT ABOUT 80K I NOTICED IT GETTING WORSE, SO I TOLD MY MECHANIC AND HE CHANGED THE TRANNY OIL FOR ME. IT SEEMED TO SHIFT A LITTLE BETTER AND THIS WAS ONLY FROM 2-3 GEAR THAT IT WOULD REV UP TO ABOUT 5K AND THEN JERK THE CAR TO GET INTO 3RD. IT'S VERY EMBARRASSING AND I'M AFRAID IT'S GOING TO LOCK UP ON ME ON THE FREEWAY. I SAW THAT CALIFORNIA FILED A SUIT AGAINST HONDA AND HONDA SETTLED. EVERY STATE SHOULD BE FILING A SUIT - I'D BE FIRST IN LINE! MY 2003 HONDA ACCORD EX HAS HAD AN ONGOING PROBLEM OF THE ACCESSORY LIGHTS GOING OUT THAT CONTROL THE RADIO AND HVAC CONTROLS. IT IS ACTUALLY A TRANSISTOR ON THE PRINTED CIRCUIT BOARD BLOWING THAT CONTROLS THE CONSOLES LIGHTING. HONDA KNOWS ABOUT THE ISSUE AND HAS PUT OUT AN EXTENDED WARRANTY ABOUT THIS FOR 7 YEARS OR 105,000 MILES, WHICHEVER COMES FIRST. IF THE WARRANTY IS OUT, THE COST TO FIX IT THROUGH THE DEALERSHIP IS $700-900, NOT SOMETHING MANY PEOPLE THESE DAYS CAN AFFORD, AND BECAUSE THEY CAN'T AFFORD IT, THEIR SAFETY IS DECREASED. THIS PROBLEM HAS BEEN OCCURRING INTERMITTENTLY FOR 2.5 YEARS, HAS NEVER MANIFESTED ITSELF WHILE AT THE DEALER. IT ALL STARTED WITH THE YELLOW TRACTION CONTROL TRIANGLE LIGHTING UP, RIGHT AFTER WE BOUGHT THE CAR. NO SYMPTOMS, JUST SOLID NON-BLINKING LIGHT ON DASH. DEALER HAD NO SOLUTION. THE PROBLEM GOT WORSE WHEN MY WIFE NOTICED THAT THE CAR'S TRANSMISSION SEEMED TO "BOG DOWN". I NEVER EXPERIENCED IT, JUST MY WIFE. DEALER SAID THIS WAS JUST THE TRACTION CONTROL KICKING IN, NO SOLUTION. LAST JULY, 4 HOURS FROM HOME, THE CAR SUDDENLY BOGGED DOWN ON ME, I IMMEDIATELY LOOKED DOWN AT THE DASH... THE CAR WAS TRAVELING 70 MPH, THE SPEEDOMETER WAS DEAD, THE ENGINE WAS DEAD, I HAPPENED TO BE AT AN EXIT RAMP, SO I COASTED OFF THE INTERSTATE TO A STOP. I CALLED THE DEALER IN THE NEAREST CITY, AND THEY SAID TO RESTART THE CAR, I DID, AND IT RAN. I TOOK THE CAR TO AUTO ZONE WHERE THEY SAID THE CODE WAS "SPEED CONTROL SENSOR/SHORT". DEALER CHECKED IT, AND SAID THERE WAS NO PROBLEM WITH SENSOR. THEY BLAMED IT ON HAVING TOO MUCH TRANSMISSION FLUID IN THE TRANSMISSION. A FEW TIMES SINCE JULY, THE CAR HAS MYSTERIOUSLY GONE DEAD IN TRAFFIC, NOTABLY WHILE IN THE TURN LANE. 2 WEEKS AGO, THE RED BRAKE LIGHT STARTED COMING ON. AN ISOLATED AND SEPARATE ISSUE I THINK. IT RESTARTED ITSELF AS SOON AS THE TURN INDICATOR WAS RELEASED IF MOVING FAST ON ROAD. WHILE LOOPING AROUND THE AIRPORT TERMINAL, IT STALLED SEVERAL TIMES AS I TESTED TO SEE IF THE TURN SIGNAL STILL KILLED IT, HAVING TO SHIFT TO NEUTRAL AND RESTART, AS THE CAR WAS IDLING WHEN IT STALLED THIS TIME. RECENTLY THE BACK LIGHT ON THE RADIO/HVAC/CLOCK PANEL WENT OUT. AFTER CHECKING ALL FUSES IT WAS DETERMINED NOT TO BE A BLOWN FUSE. SERVICE ADVISOR/MECHANIC INFORMED ME THAT IT WOULD COST BETWEEN $200-$400 TO FIX AND THAT THE RADIO UNIT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THIS LED ME TO CONDUCT MY OWN RESEARCH AND WAS SURPRISED AND DISAPPOINTED TO FIND THAT THIS HAS BEEN AND CONTINUES TO BE A COMMON PROBLEM ON NEWER MODELS OF HONDA ACCORDS ('03 AND NEWER). I ALSO LEARNED FROM NUMEROUS OTHER OWNERS THAT THEY'D RECEIVED THE RUNAROUND FROM THE CAR DEALERSHIP SERVICE DEPARTMENTS. HOWEVER, SEVERAL INDICATED THAT AFTER MAKING NUMEROUS CALLS TO HONDA OF AMERICA THE COMPANY AGREED TO PAY FOR THE REPAIR. IT APPEARS TO BE A WIRING PROBLEM, WHICH COULD, IN MY OPINION, LEAD TO MORE SERIOUS PROBLEMS. AS A SINGLE PARENT I PURCHASED THE HONDA FOR MY DAUGHTER, WHO ATTENDS COLLEGE SOME 700 MILES AWAY FROM HOME AND REQUIRES A SAFE AND RELIABLE VEHICLE. SINCE HONDA OF AMERICA IS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM THEY REALLY SHOULD ISSUE A RECALL TO OWNERS. *JB

I SAID, YES AND THE SERVICE ADVISOR FROM HONDA DEALERSHIP WENT ON TO TELL ME THAT I NEEDED MY TRANSMISSION FLUID CHANGED, BRAKE FLUID CHANGED, AND MY ENGINE COOLANT CHANGED. THE TOTAL AMOUNT OF COST CAME TO $500.29 WHICH I THOUGHT I WAS BEING RIPPED OFF. THE HONDA SERVICE ADVISOR ALSO WENT ON TO TELL ME THAT I NEED TO HAVE MY FRONT STRUTS REPLACED BECAUSE THEY ARE BAD. I NOTICED WHEN I WOULD MAKE A RIGHT HAND TURN I WOULD HEAR A SQUEAKY NOISE. HE CONFIRMED THAT IT WAS MY FRONT STRUTS. I ASK THE SERVICE ADVISOR HOW LONG DOES IT NORMALLY TAKE FOR STRUTS TO WEAR OUT HE TOLD ME AROUND 80,000-100,000 MILES WELL MY 2003 HONDA ACCORD EX ONLY HAVE 48,000 MILES ON IT. I'M ASSUMING THAT I PROBABLY STARTED OFF WITH BAD STRUTS IN THE BEGINNING SINCE I HAD MY HONDA ACCORD EX, I HAVE HAD NOTHING BUT PROBLEMS. THE STEREO WORKED - BUT IT IS COMPLETELY DARK - NO LIGHTS. I CALLED HONDA ON 2 OCCASIONS ABOUT IT ( CASE# : N032006-03-08-00025) AND EXPLAINED THE SITUATION TO THEM AND EVEN REPORTED THAT THERE WAS A SERVICE BULLETIN FOR A KNOWN PROBLEM WITH THE 2003 HONDA ACCORDS ( BULLETIN : 04-027 ). HOWEVER, THE HONDA REPRESENTATIVES WERE NOT PARTICULARLY HELPFUL AND WOULD NOT ACKNOWLEDGE THE VALIDITY OF THE SERVICE BULLETIN. ALSO, THEY DID NOT WANT TO ADMIT THAT THERE IS A KNOWN PROBLEM WITH THE 2003 ACCORDS AND BACK LIGHTS ON THE DASHBOARD. I TOOK THE CAR TO A HONDA DEALERSHIP IN WOODSTOCK AND THEY EVENTUALLY REPLACED THE COMPLETE STEREO WITH A RE-FURBISHED ONE WHICH SOLVED THE PROBLEM (AT NO CHARGE) - INITIALLY THE DEALERSHIP DID NOT WANT TO ACKNOWLEDGE THAT THERE WAS A KNOWN PROBLEM WHICH CAUSED THE BACK LIGHTS ON THE DASHBOARD TO GO OUT. LUCKILY, THE CAR WAS STILL UNDER WARRANTY, I FOUND MANY SIMILAR COMPLAINTS ON THE INTERNET WHERE IT ENDED UP COSTING THE OWNERS BETWEEN $400 - $800. *JB

I WAS IN THE GROCERY STORE. A PAGE CAME OVER THE LOUDSPEAKER STATING THAT THE OWNER OF A GRAY HONDA PARKED IN THE SIDE PARKING LOT SHOULD COME TO THE MANAGER?S OFFICE. AS I WAS PARKED ON THE SIDE, I SPOKE TO THE MANAGER. THE MANAGER AND I WALKED OUT OF THE STORE TOGETHER AND I SAW THAT MY 2003 HONDA ACCORD WAS AT REST IN THE SIDE OF ANOTHER CAR. THE DOOR WAS LOCKED, THE CAR IN REVERSE AND THE EMERGENCY BRAKE ON. I HAD THE KEYS WITH ME IN THE GROCERY STORE. NOT KNOWING HOW THIS COULD HAVE HAPPENED, I FILED A POLICE REPORT ON THE THEORY SOMEONE MAY HAVE TRIED TO STEAL THE CAR AND ALSO TOOK IT TO THE HONDA DEALER TO SEE IF IT WAS A MECHANICAL PROBLEM. THE DEALER COULD NOT "REPLICATE THE PROBLEM" AND AT NO POINT ACKNOWLEDGED THAT THIS WAS HAPPENING IN 1999 - 2002 HONDA VEHICLES. THE ACCIDENT CAUSED MORE THAN $3,000 IN PROPERTY DAMAGE, COST ME MY DEDUCTIBLE,AND INITIATED A RAISE IN MY INSURANCE RATES OF 32% (WHICH AFTER MUCH TIME, INCONVENIENCE, AND $27.00, I APPEALED AND WON). ANY TIME THERE IS A FIRE I WOULD THINK IT WOULD CAUSE A RECALL OF SOME KIND. THEY FEEL THAT THE CAR DID NOT PLAY A ROLE IN THE FIRE BUT THEY ARE UNABLE TO TELL ME WHAT CAUSED IT IN THE FIRST PLACE. MY CONCERN IS YOU NEVER KNOW WHEN THIS IS GOING TO OCCUR LIKE I SAID MY CAR WAS ALREADY A YEAR OLD AND THEN WE HAD AN 04 WITH VERY FEW MILES. I AM GETTING A RUN AROUND FROM THE VERY COMPANY THAT I HAVE WORKED FOR THE LAST 8.5 YEARS. AND AM NOT SURE WHAT TO DO. ONLY THREE DAYS AFTER HAVING PURCHASED A NEW 2003 ACCORD, I NOTICED THAT THE CONSOLE WAS OVERHEATING. WHEN I PUT MY FINGERS UNDER THE CONSOLE, IT WAS SO HOT THAT IT COULD BLISTER SKIN. THERE WAS ALSO A HORRIBLE INTERMITTENT BURNING SMELL. AFTER THE CAR MAKES THIS TERRIBLE BURNING SMELL, I GET A HEADACHE. THIS BURNING SMELL IS AN INDICATION OF AN EXTREMELY DANGEROUS PROBLEM, THAT COULD CAUSE THE VEHICLE TO CATCH ON FIRE. UPON MY SECOND VISIT, THE DEALERSHIP ACKNOWLEDGED THE PROBLEM AND REPLACED THE CONSOLE. ON THE WAY HOME, THE NEW CONSOLE OVERHEATED AGAIN. ALSO, THE HORRIBLE INTERMITTENT BURNING SMELL IS STILL PRESENT. HONDA AMERICA HAS REFUSED TO REPLACE MY VEHICLE OR GIVE ME A REFUND. THE SALES MANAGER AT THE DEALERSHIP, HENDRICK'S HONDA CARS OF HICKORY, HAS GIVEN ME MISINFORMATION ABOUT MY STATE'S LEMON LAW BY TELLING ME THEY ARE ENTITLED TO 10 REPAIR ATTEMPTS WHEN THE NC LEMON LAW SAYS THEY ARE ONLY ENTITLED TO 4. THE DEALERSHIP NOW SAYS THAT THEY ARE TRYING TO REDUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. FURTHER, EVEN THOUGH THREE PEOPLE AT THE DEALERSHIP, INCLUDING A MECHANIC, HAVE WITNESSED THE OVERHEATING AND BURNING SMELL, THE "MASTER MECHANIC" HAS TOLD ME THAT IF SOMETHING WAS BURNING OR OVERHEATING THAT I WOULD HAVE EQUIPMENT FAILURE. THIS IS NOT TRUE AND ANY GOOD MECHANIC SHOULD KNOW THIS. IT APPEARS TO ME THAT THEY ARE TRYING TO DENY THAT THE PROBLEM STILL EXISTS. THE COMPANY CLAIMS THAT NO ONE ELSE HAS REPORTED THIS PROBLEM.
