The contact owns a 2004 Honda Accord. The contact stated that while attempting to make a right turn, the air bags deployed independently. No warning lights illuminated. A dealer or independent mechanic was not contacted. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer or an independent mechanic. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact's fiancé sustained injuries to the face, left eye, causing her to have a black eye, and her chest and the contact sustained injures to left side of his face and his left hand. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The contact was relating the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number:  18V268000 (AIR BAGS); however, the VIN was not included in the recall. The approximate failure mileage was 147,486.

Mechanic states that driver buckle is causing error message concerning air bag deployment on driver side, says belt buckle should be replaced so connectivity will be re-established, to enable air bag deployment. I would think this would be a safety recall, if this is the case.

Air bag light continues to stay on even after having the recall of the wiring harness replaced. Went to the dealership and had the air bag inflater recall fixed on April 1,2021 the light came on and continued to stay on. On 5/24/2024 I serviced my vehicle at Honda of Cleveland and they stated I had an air bag code stating that my driver side airbag sensor is bad but because they fixed the recall in 2007 they said the air bag itself is faulty but not covered under recall. Just needing this documented in case an incident occurs and the air bag is faulty as indicated by the dealership.

UNKNOWN - I have a 2004 Honda Accord which indicates an airbag issue. The seat belt buckles but the light stays on. Many 2004 Accords were in a recall over SRS but my VIN did not show as part of the recall. The dealer says the seat sensor is bad but they are not making the part any longer. What should I do. I guess the maker should replace with a new system.

The contact stated that she had looked down at her lap when she was struck she said the impact caused her to hit the steering wheel with her face. The contact stated that she was rendered unconscious. The contact stated that when she regained consciousness the police and emergency technicians were on scene. The driver of the other vehicle had fled the scene. The contact stated that the air bags had not been deployed. The contact stated that the police had filed a report. The contact stated that the damage to the rear end of her vehicle was so severe that the vehicle had to be towed to an impound lot. The contact was transported to an ER where she was diagnosed with a traumatic brain injury, she had suffered a broken nose and whiplash to her neck. The contact stated that her vision had been impaired and she was losing her sight. The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The contact's insurance provider had declared the vehicle a total loss. The failure mileage was approximately 133,000.

My 2 door (coupe) has yet to be recalled for the exploding airbag. The sedan was recalled a long time ago. Undoubtedly the airbags are the same in both cars. Why no recall for the coupe? My guess is that the NHSTA applies separate statistical tests to the coupe and sedan as a matter of course--even if it makes no sense when both use the same part. Because so few coupes were made, the statistical threshold for exploding airbags was never reached to trigger a recall. Am I driving a timebomb? Will my death be the one to trigger a recall? The contact related the failure to having had the driver's side air bag replaced under NHTSA Campaign Number: 15V320000 (Air Bags). The contact stated that the air bag warning light remained illuminated continually. Additionally, the contact stated that the horn, cruise control, and the passenger’s side air bag sensor had also failed to operate as needed. The contact had taken the vehicle to a local dealer; however, the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. On Wednesday, JULY 27, 2022, I was riding on the highway and the left side curtain airbag exploded. There was no other vehicles involved, no accident. My left curtain airbag is hanging out my window and I need to get it repaired ASAP and it's affecting my seatbelt in the driver's seat. I need to know if my make and model has a recall for 2004 Honda Accord. For now, I have the curtain pinned to the roof of the car. The airbag just exploded and now there is a red sign on my dashboard with the seatbelt emblem and showing the airbag on the steering wheel.

I Was hit extremely hard by a semi truck on the driver side of my car when the semi was making a small right turn in the middle lane on Race Street my little car became wedged almost underneath the shield and roof slightly began to get crushed but the AIRBAGS never deployed,when I heard the cracking of the shield i looked back at my children who are and still to this day are terrified! the back tires of the semi is staring them in the face I immediately squeezed out of my seat belt it wouldn't unlock at this point my car is being pulled back and forth from the driver of the semi keeps trying to widening his turn while I'm blowing the crap out of the my horn he still doesn't realize he hit me yet, maybe because his dog is all over the passenger side from him jerking the semi back and forth I grabbed my children and jumped out I was literally stuck between a traffic poll and a nightmare just glad to be Alive (((((AIRBAGS))))never deployed always had problems with this car the water pump the door locks,heater wouldn't shut off,only had the vehicle for a few months to say the least and it broke down a few weeks after purchasing it when I tried reaching the dealership who sold me the car I could never could get an answer

MY AIRBAG LIGHT ON THE DASHBOARD HAS STAYED ON ALL OF THE TIME SINCE 2008. NOT SURE OF EXACT DATE. AIRBAG LIGHT GOES OFF ON OCCASION BUT MOST OF THE TIME THE AIRBAG LIGHT STAYS ON. I'VE NEVER GOT A RECALL NOTICE ON THIS ISSUE. I'VE CHECKED MY VIN WHEN THERE'S A RECALL ON AIRBAGS FOR MY YEAR 2004 HONDA ACCORD EX AND IT NEVER SHOWS THAT MY 2004 HONDA ACCORD EX HAS A RECALL ISSUE WITH AIRBAGS. MY AIRBAG COMES ON WHEN I START UP THE VEHICLE, SITTING STILL OR DRIVING ON THE ROADWAY. I'VE ALSO NOTICED THAT SOMETIMES WHEN I'M DRIVING THE SHOULDER SEAT BELT ON THE DRIVER SIDE WILL LOCK UP ON ME CONSTANTLY. I'M AFRAID THE SHOULDER BELTS GOING TO LOCK UP ON ME WHILE DRIVING AND CAUSE ME TO HAVE AN ACCIDENT BECAUSE I'M BEING HELD TIGHT AGAINST THE SEAT BELT.

THE SRS LIGHT OF MY CAR COME ON AND GOES OFF ALL THE TIME. SOMETIMES WHEN I AM DRIVING, SUDDENLY WILL TURN ON FOR A WHILE. I USUALLY PULL OVER AND TURN OFF THE ENGINEER AND TURN IT ON BACK AND WAIT A FEW. THIS HAPPENS CONSTANTLY, AND I HAVE READ THE MANUAL, THIS HAS TO DO WITH THE FRONT AIR BAGS, AND ACCORDING TO THE MANUAL BOOK CAN BE 'AN ALERT TO A POTENTIAL AIRBAGS, SIDE CURTAIN AIRBAGS, FRONT SEAT BELT TENSIONERS OR THE DRIVER'S SEAT POSITION SENSOR AND THE FRONT PASSENGER'S WEIGHT SENSORS' WE HAVE CHECK IT ALL THE TIME AND IT JUST GOES ON ALL THE TIME AS IT COMES OFF ALL THE TIME. I HAVE GOTTEN TO A POINT THAT CONCERNS ME A LOT.

THE MECHANIC LINKED THE FAILURE TO A POSSIBLE RECALL BASED ON A SERVICE BULLETIN THE MECHANIC DISCOVERED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V700000 (AIR BAGS). NO FURTHER ASSISTANCE WAS OFFERED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.

READING MANY OTHER SIMILAR COMPLAINTS, IT SEEMS STATISTICALLY IMPROBABLE THAT SO MANY AIRBAG PROBLEMS WOULD OCCUR WITHOUT EXISTENCE OF SYSTEMIC PROBLEM SIMILAR TO MY 2005 ACCORD, WHICH WAS RECALLED. PLEASE ENFORCE SIMILAR SAFETY CONCERN IN THESE SERIES THAT USE SAME AIRBAG PARTS. UNTIL THEN, HONDA WILL NOT INVESTIGATE WITHOUT COSTLY DIAGNOSIS FEE AND AMBIGUOUS EXPENSIVE REPAIR RECOMMENDATIONS. MY 2004 HONDA PILOT HAD A RECALL FOR SOMETHING NOT WORKING PROPERLY IN THE AIRBAG SYSTEM. SINCE RECEIVING THE RECALL NOTIFICATION ABOUT THE 2004 HONDA PILOT'S AIRBAG, THE AIRBAG WARNING LIGHT IN MY 2004 HONDA ACCORD LIT UP ON AUGUST 28, 2019 AND HAS STAYED LIT SINCE THE FIRST TIME IT LIT UP. MY 2004 HONDA PILOT DID NOT HAVE ITS AIRBAG WARNING LIGHT COME ON AND IT DID HAVE A DEFECT. I ASKED THE DEALERSHIP ABOUT AN AIRBAG SYSTEM RECALL ON THE 2004 HONDA ACCORDS. THEY SAID IT DID NOT HAVE ONE AND WOULD NOT CHECK WHY MY 2004 HONDA ACCORD AIRBAG WARNING LIGHT HAS LIT UP WITHOUT ME PAYING A $99 FEE. THESE CARS WERE MADE DURING THE SAME TIME PERIOD. THESE MODELS HAVE BOTH HAD PREVIOUS PROBLEMS WITH THE AIRBAG OR PART OF ITS SYSTEM. I DO NOT WANT TO DIE FROM A FAULTY PART HONDA PUT INTO MY VEHICLE BECAUSE THE RECALL HAS NOT BEEN PROCESSED FOR THAT VEHICLE YET. I AM TELLING YOU THIS IN WRITING SO MY FAMILY HAS GROUNDS TO SUE IF I AM HURT BY A PART YOU KNOW IS FAULTY AND HAVE NOT RECALLED IT IN A TIMELY MANNER AS YOU KNOW YOU NEED TO DO. WHILE DRIVING ON 787 IN ALBANY N.Y. MY 2004 HONDA ACCORD LOCKED UP IN THE FRONT END AND SEEMED TO SLAM BACK INTO DRIVE I HAD ALL OF MY CHILDREN AND MY HUSBAND IN THE CAR AT THE TIME OF THE INCIDENT WE ALL WERE JERKED FORWARD DUE TO THE SUDDEN LOCK UP WE WERE ABLE TO GET IT HOME AND REALIZED THAT TRANSMISSION FLUID WAS POURING OUT WE INSPECTED OURSELVES AND TOOK THE TRANSMISSION PAN OFF TO FIND WHAT APPEARED TO BE THICK METAL CHUNKS/GEARS INSIDE MY TRANSMISSION PAN AND NOW WILL NOT HOLD FLUID. LUCKILY NO ONE WAS HURT BUT THIS COULD HAVE POTENTIALLY BEEN DEADLY.

THE HONDA ADVISOR REFERRED ME TO HONDA CUSTOMER SUPPORT SINCE THE VEHICLE HAD NEVER BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT. I CALLED HONDA CUSTOMER SERVICE AND THEY REFUSED TO ASSUME RESPONSIBILITY FOR SUCH AN IMPORTANT SAFETY COMPONENT.

I WAS IN A PARKING GARAGE AND PULLING INTO A PARKING SPOT. I WAS WITHIN 2 FEET OF THE CONCRETE WALL AND FOOT OVER BREAK WHEN MY CAR ACCELERATED WITH ENOUGH FORCE TO DEPLOY THE AIRBAG AND PUSH THE FRAME INTO THE RADIATOR. IT HAPPENED SO FAST, I TRIED TO BRAKE BUT IT WAS OVER WITHIN SECONDS. I COULD NOT HAVE BEEN GOING MORE THAN 2MPH OR LESS AS I DID NOT EVEN HAVE FOOT ON GAS.

TAKATA RECALL: I HAD AN ACCIDENT IN WHICH MY HONDA ACCORD HIT A TREE AT ABOUT 40 MPH AFTER SLIDING OFF OF THE HIGHWAY DUE TO ICE AND THE DRIVER SIDE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY! THE HOOD WAS BLOWN OFF AND THERE WAS ENGINE DAMAGE, BUT THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. THE AIR BAGS WERE RECENTLY REPLACED BY BROWN'S HONDA IN ARLINGTON DUE TO THE "TAKATA RECALL". THEY CLEARLY EITHER DIDN'T REPLACE THEM OR DIDN'T INSTALL THEM CORRECTLY.

MY DAUGHTER WAS DRIVING MY 2004 HONDA ACCORD AND WAS TRAVELING AT ABOUT 30 MPH. SHE HAD MY 12 YR OLD IN THE PASSENGER SEAT AND GOT TOO CLOSE TO THE EDGE OF A ROAD THAT DIDN'T HAVE A SHOULDER. IT PULLED THE TIRES OFF AND SHE OVERCOMPENSATED SWERVING BACK ONTO THE ROAD. THERE WAS ANOTHER CAR COMING SO SHE SWERVED BACK TOWARDS THE DITCH AND HIT A POWER POLE HEAD ON. THE AIRBAG ON DRIVERS SIDE DEPLOYED BUT SLOWLY AND WITH VERY LITTLE FORCE AT ALL. MY DAUGHTER DESCRIBED IT AS FALLING OUT AND BARELY INFLATING. HOWEVER, THE OTHER DAUGHTER'S AIRBAG SHOT OUT HARD AND FAST AND CAUSED HER TO BREAK A BONE IN HER RT DOMINANT HAND. SHE HAD TO HAVE SURGERY ON THAT KNUCKLE/FINGER USING THREE PINS. THEY HAD TO EVENTUALLY GO BACK AND DO SURGERY TO REMOVE THEM SINCE THEY BURIED UNDER THE SKIN. I WAS COMPLETELY UNAWARE THAT THERE WAS A RECALL ON THE AIRBAGS SINCE I WASN'T THE ORIGINAL OWNER OF THE CAR.

A SECOND 2004 HONDA ACCORD, THAT I PURCHASED THE SAME YEAR FROM THE SAME DEALERSHIP AND LATER SOLD, IS ON THE RECALL LIST, WHICH ADDS TO MY VALID CONCERNS THAT HONDA'S RECALL LIST IS NOT COMPLETE OR ACCURATE, ESPECIALLY CONSIDERING HONDA HAS CONTINUED TO ADD NEW VIN NUMBERS TO THE RECALL LIST OVER THE PAST YEAR. ALTHOUGH I CALLED HONDA'S RECALL HOTLINE, THEY FAILED TO SHOW ANY CONCERN FOR MY PERSONAL SAFETY AND REFUSED TO REPLACE MY AIRBAGS. HONDA HAS CAUSED MANY SENSELESS DEATHS BY REFUSING TO ADEQUATELY AND PROMPTLY ADDRESS THE AIRBAGS DEFECTS IN ITS CARS, AND IT IS UNFATHOMABLE TO ME THAT THEY WOULD CONTINUE ON THEIR COURSE OF DEADLY APATHY.

HONDA STATES IN THEIR SEAT BELT LIMITED WARRANTY: TIME PERIOD: THIS WARRANTY CONTINUES FOR THE USEFUL LIFE OF THE VEHICLE WARRANTY COVERAGE: HONDA WILL REPAIR OR REPLACE, AT ITS OPTION, ANY HONDA SEAT BELT COMPONENT THAT FAILS TO FUNCTION PROPERLY DURING NORMAL USE. THIS INCLUDES ALL PARTS AND LABOR CHARGES. MY HONDA DEALER (FAIRFAX HONDA 703-934-8500) INFORMED ME THAT THIS WASN'T UNDER WARRANTY BECAUSE THE COMPONENT NEEDING REPAIR WAS AN ELECTRICAL COMPONENT. FURTHERMORE, BECAUSE OF THIS DEFECTIVE COMPONENT, THE AIR BAG SYSTEM WILL FAIL TO DEPLOY PROPERLY IN AN ACCIDENT. I FOLLOWED ALL HONDA'S DIRECTIONS TO THE LETTER AND WAS GIVEN AN APPOINTMENT TIME AND PLACE FOR THE WORK. WHEN I SHOWED UP AT THE DEALERSHIP, OURISMAN HONDA BETHESDA MD FOR THE WORK TO BE DONE THE DEALER SAID HONDA HAD SET UP A WEBSITE, HANDED OUT APPOINTMENTS AND PROMISED CUSTOMERS THAT THE WORK WOULD TAKE A HALF AN HOUR, WITHOUT THEIR KNOWLEDGE. THEY SAID THE PARTS WERE BACK ORDERED BUT THEY WOULD CALL AND LET ME KNOW WHEN THEY WERE AVAILABLE. ON 11/22/14 JIM MCNATT REPLACED MY DRIVER SIDE AIRBAG BUT THEY TOLD ME THE PASSENGER SIDE WAS STILL ON BACK ORDER. THEY SAID THEY WOULD CALL ME WHEN IT CAME IN. ON 2/6/15 I RECEIVED THE OFFICIAL SAFETY RECALL NOTICE IN THE MAIL AND ON 2/7/15 I RECEIVED A VOICEMAIL FROM AMERICAN HONDA REGARDING THE RECALL. ON 2/6/15 I CALLED JIM MCNATT ADVISING THEM OF THE NOTICE I RECEIVED AND ASKED IF THE PASSENGER AIRBAG PART, THE ONE REQUESTED ON 10/28/14, WAS AVAILABLE. I EXPRESSED MY CONCERNS THAT IT?S BEEN ALMOST THREE MONTHS AND NO-ONE FROM JIM MCNATT HAS CONTACTED ME REGARDING THE BACK ORDERED PART. THE SERVICE ADVISER TOLD ME HE SCHEDULED AN APPOINTMENT FOR ME ON 2/25/15 TO REPLACE THE PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG. THIS WOULD AT A MINIMUM GIVE HIM A REMINDER TO CALL ME BEFORE 2/25/15 IF THE PART WAS STILL NOT AVAILABLE. THE SRS LIGHT OF MY 04 HONDA ACCORD HAS BEEN ON SINCE LATE 2011. SINCE IT'S A LONG DRIVE, I ADJUSTED THE POSITION OF MY DRIVER'S SEAT TO MAKE MYSELF COMFORTABLE. SOMEHOW, THE SRS LIGHT STARTED TO TURN ON AND IT HAS BEEN ON EVER SINCE, INDICATING THE AIRBAG MIGHT BE DEACTIVATED. I RESEARCHED ONLINE AND REALIZED IT'S A WELL-KNOWN ISSUE RELATED TO DRIVER'S SEAT POSITION SENSOR HARNESS. HONDA ANNOUNCED A SAFETY RECALL BACK IN JANUARY 2007 TO FIX THIS ISSUE FOR SOME VEHICLES OF CERTAIN MODELS. THE MODEL I HAVE WAS INCLUDED IN THE RECALL BUT NOT THE PARTICULAR VEHICLE I HAVE. I CONTACTED HONDA FOR EXPLANATION AND THEY INSISTED IT BE MY OWN RESPONSIBILITY TO GET THIS DIAGNOSED AND FIXED. MANY HONDA OWNERS INCLUDING MYSELF JUST NEVER RECEIVED ANY RECALL NOTICE THAT WE THINK WE DESERVE. RELATING THIS TO THE RECENT HONDA SCANDAL OF UNDER-REPORTING THE NUMBER OF PEOPLE DIED IN HONDA VEHICLES, IT COULD BE A SIMILAR SCHEME OF PRACTICE OF UNDER ESTIMATING THE NUMBER OF VEHICLES INVOLVED IN THE RECALL. ON JAN 3, 2015, SHE CALLED THE SERVICE DEPT AND WAS PASSED AROUND TO APPROXIMATELY 4-5 DIFFERENT PEOPLE/DEPARTMENTS, NONE OF WHOM ACTED LIKE THEY KNEW WHAT TO DO OR WHO TO TRANSFER HER TO. SHE WAS TOLD TO LEAVE A MESSAGE, WHICH SHE DID, AND SHE WAS STILL NOT CALLED BACK. I THEN CALLED THE SERVICE DEPT AND ASKED FOR THE MANAGER, EXPLAINED WHO I WAS AND WHO I WAS CALLING FOR AND ABOUT AND WAS TOLD THEY HAD NO RECORD OF THE INITIAL REQUEST IN OCT 2014 AND NO RECORD OF ANY PARTS BEING ORDERED. I WAS ASSURED THAT THE REPLACEMENT PART WOULD BE ORDERED IMMEDIATELY AND SHE WOULD BE CONTACTED TO SET UP AN APPT. IT IS NOW FEB 3, 2015 AND WE HAVE NOT HEARD ANYTHING. WE RECEIVED THE 1ST SAFETY RECALL NOTICE REGARDING THE AIRBAG ISSUE IN THE MAIL TODAY AND NOW THERE IS A 2ND RECALL ON THE SAME AIRBAG(S). I AM CONTACTING THE SERVICE DEPT AGAIN TOMORROW, BUT THIS IS TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE, ON BOTH HONDA'S PART AND ON PAT PECK HONDA'S PART. THE FACT THAT TAKATA IS THE ONLY MANUFACTURER OF THIS AIRBAG IS ALSO HIGHLY CONCERNING, BOTH IN THEIR DENIAL TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY AND IN THEIR LACK OF CONCERN. IF THE AIRBAGS AND SEAT BELTS HAD WORKED PROPERLY I BELIEVE MY INJURIES WOULD BE LESS SEVERE AS THEY WOULD HAVE KEPT ME FROM FLYING FORWARD AT IMPACT. THE IMPACT WAS STRONG ENOUGH TO CRACK THE TRANSMISSION CASE, BREAK ONE ENGINE MOUNT, BREAK THE AIR CONDITIONER, DESTROY THE BUMPER AND HOOD AND CAUSE REPAIRABLE DAMAGE TO THE QUARTER PANELS. MY 2004 HONDA ACCORD HAD BEEN LEFT PARKED OVERNIGHT ON OUR DRIVEWAY. AT ABOUT 10:30 IN THE MORNING THE NEXT DAY,12/18/11, I GOT INTO THE CAR, AND WITH MY DOOR STILL WIDE OPEN AND THE CAR IN "PARK", I TURNED ON THE IGNITION AND STARTED THE MOTOR FOR A 2 OR 3 MINUTE WARM-UP. I WAS ON THE DRIVER SEAT AND MY WIFE ON THE PASSENGER SEAT WITH HER DOOR ALSO WIDE OPEN. I WAS TALKING TO MY WIFE WITH MY FACE TURNED TOWARDS HER WHILE THE CAR WARMED UP. AFTER ABOUT TWO MINUTES, I TURNED OFF THE MOTOR AND PULLED OUT THE KEY FROM THE IGNITION SWITCH TO HAND IT TO MY WIFE STILL FACING HER WITH MY LEFT SIDE TOWARDS THE STEERING WHEEL. OUR HOUSE KEY AND THE CAR KEY WERE ON THE SAME KEY CHAIN AND I WAS HANDING IT TO MY WIFE TO LOCK THE FRONT DOOR OF THE HOUSE. RIGHT AT THAT MOMENT, THE DRIVER SIDE AIRBAG VIOLENTLY EXPLODED WITH FULL FORCE AND WITH A VERY LOUD BANG WHIPPING MY FACE AND MY LEFT EAR. WHATEVER I HAD IN MY HANDS (MY WALLET, A CD AND THE CAR KEYS) WERE ALL BLOWN AWAY AND LANDED OUTSIDE THE CAR AND I WAS COMPLETELY DEAFENED AND DISORIENTED BY THE BLOW AND THE LOUD EXPLOSION. FOR THE NEXT TWO HOURS OR SO, I WAS HURTING IN MY LEFT EAR AND WAS UNABLE TO HEAR ANYTHING WITH THAT EAR. ITS BEEN MORE THAN 24 HOURS SINCE THAT INCIDENT AND MY EAR THOUGH NOT HURTING AS MUCH, STILL HAS SOME RINGING. I REPORTED THE INCIDENT TO THE AMERICAN HONDA MOTOR COMPANY BUT AM VERY DISAPPOINTED WITH THEIR HANDLING OF THIS SITUATION. THEY WANT ME TO HAVE THE CAR TOWED TO A DEALERSHIP AND HAVE IT CHECKED ALL AT MY EXPENSE. THEY REFUSE TO PAY FOR ANY EXPENSES WHATSOEVER THAT I MAY INCUR WITH REGARDS TO THIS INCIDENT INCLUDING MEDICAL CHECK-UP. WHILE DRIVING AT NIGHT ON THE FREEWAY AT 65 MPH, THE PASSENGER SIDE CURTAIN AIRBAGS DEPLOYED WITHOUT EXPLANATION (BOTH THE BAG THAT DEPLOYS THROUGH THE CEILING LINER AND THE BAG THAT DEPLOYS THROUGH THE SIDE OF THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT). DUE TO THE VIOLENCE AND CONFUSION OF THE DEPLOYMENT EXPLOSION, I FIRST THOUGHT THAT THE RIGHT SIDE OF MY VEHICLE MUST HAVE BEEN CRUSHED IN A COLLISION WITH AN UNSEEN SEMI-TRAILER TRUCK. EARS RINGING FROM THE CONCUSSION, I INITIALLY FOUGHT TO CONTROL THE VEHICLE, BUT SOON REALIZED THAT THE TIRES WERE STILL INTACT. AS THE SMOKE CLEARED, I SAW THAT THE NEAREST VEHICLES WERE 100+ YARDS AHEAD OR BEHIND MY VEHICLE. AT THE NEXT EXIT, I INSPECTED THE VEHICLE UNDER A STREET LIGHT. THERE WAS NO APPARENT DAMAGE TO THE EXTERIOR. DURING LATER INSPECTIONS BY AN INSURANCE ADJUSTOR AND THE HONDA DEALERSHIP, NO CAUSE FOR DEPLOYMENT WAS FOUND. THERE WAS NO DAMAGE TO THE UNDERCARRIAGE AND HENCE NO EVIDENCE THAT AN OBJECT HIT THE UNDERCARRIAGE TO TRIGGER THE DEPLOYMENT. THE ONLY EXTERNAL DAMAGE WAS A SMALL GOLF-BALL SIZED DENT IN THE ROOF OVER THE RIGHT CENTER PILLAR. THE DENT WAS APPARENTLY CAUSED BY THE STRONG TORQUE THAT THE DEPLOYING SIDE-CURTAIN AIRBAG APPLIED TO THE WELDED ROOF MOUNT TO WHICH THE AIR BAG PACKAGE BOLTS. HENCE, ALL INTERIOR AND EXTERIOR DAMAGE TO THE VEHICLE (>$3000 USD) WAS CAUSED BY THE FALSE AIR BAG DEPLOYMENT ITSELF. THE INSURANCE COMPANY CONCLUDED THERE WAS NO EVIDENCE OF A COLLISION AND REFUSED TO COVER THE DAMAGES. THE HONDA DEALERSHIP SIMILARLY REFUSED TO COVER THE DAMAGE SINCE THE VEHICLE WAS OUT OF WARRANTY. THE DEALERSHIP FURTHER CLAIMED THAT THE AIR BAG CONTROLLERS DO NOT SAVE THE STATE OF THE SENSORS WHEN A DEPLOYMENT IS TRIGGERED, AND HENCE IT IS NOT POSSIBLE TO DIAGNOSE FAILURES. I WAS DRIVING TO WORK ON 9/21/2010. TRAFFIC WAS COMING TO A STOP AND I BEGAN TO APPLY MY BRAKE. UPON APPLYING BRAKE MY VEHICLE ACCELERATED CAUSING ME TO REAR END ANOTHER VEHICLE. I BELIEVE THAT THE REPAIR SHOULD HAVE BEEN COMPLETED AT NO CHARGE BECAUSE THERE IS AN OUTSTANDING NHTSA RECALL (07V001000) THAT SPECIFICALLY REFERS TO THE SRS INDICATOR AND PROBLEMS WITH THE WIRING HARNESS FOR 2004 HONDA ACCORD MODELS. MY SERVICE REP AT THE DEALERSHIP SAID THAT THE VIN ON MY CAR DID NOT FALL IN THE VIN RANGE FOR THE RECALL, BUT THE DOCUMENTATION FOR NHTSA RECALL 07V001000 DOES NOT SPECIFY A RANGE OF VINS FOR 2004 MODELS, ONLY FOR 2005 MODELS. ON MAY 14, 2008, I BROUGHT MY 2004 HONDA ACCORD EX TO MY LOCAL HONDA DEALER BECAUSE THE SRS (AIRBAG) INDICATOR CAME ON AND REMAINED ON DURING OPERATION. THE DEALER CHARGED ME $263 FOR REPLACING THE WIRING HARNESS UNDER THE DRIVER'S SEAT. I BELIEVE THAT THE REPAIR SHOULD HAVE BEEN COMPLETED AT NO CHARGE BECAUSE THERE IS AN OUTSTANDING NHTSA RECALL (07V001000) THAT SPECIFICALLY REFERS TO THE SRS INDICATOR AND PROBLEMS WITH THE WIRING HARNESS FOR 2004 HONDA ACCORD MODELS. MY SERVICE REP AT THE DEALERSHIP SAID THAT THE VIN ON MY CAR DID NOT FALL IN THE VIN RANGE FOR THE RECALL, BUT THE DOCUMENTATION FOR NHTSA RECALL 07V001000 DOES NOT SPECIFY A RANGE OF VINS FOR 2004 MODELS, ONLY FOR 2005 MODELS. AT THIS POINT, NOTHING HAS BEEN DONE TO REPAIR THE DAMAGES BY HONDA OF AMERICA OR STATE FARM INSURANCE COMPANY DUE TO IT'S RARE CIRCUMSTANCES. HONDA TECHNICIANS AND THEIR DISTRICT MANAGER SAID THEY FOUND NO GOOD REASON FOR DEPLOYMENT. THEY TESTED THE AIRBAG PARTS AFTER THE DEPLOYMENT, AND THEY ARE CURRENTLY STILL FUNCTIONING PROPERLY. THEORIZING, THEY COMMENTED THAT A BOLT MAY HAVE SMACKED UP UNDER THE CAR AND HIT A SENSOR, CREATING A FREQUENCY MIMICKING THE SOUND OF AN IMPACT. ACCORDING TO THE HONDA TECHNICIANS, THESE SIDE AIR BAGS ARE ACTIVATED/ACTUATED ON FREQUENCY SO THE SECOND THEY HEAR A CRUNCH OR GLASS BREAK, THEY SHOOT OUT. HE SAID THAT IF SOMETHING CREATED A SOUND SIMILAR TO THAT OF AN ACCIDENT OR VEHICLE IMPACT, THAT THEY COULD GO OFF. SO, CAR STILL IS NOT REPAIRED, AND HAS BEEN CHECKED BY HONDA AND STATE FARM ADJUSTORS. THE HONDA TECHNICAL DEPARTMENT DEPT. RECOMMENDED REPLACING THE SENSOR IN THE SEAT, HOWEVER, THAT DID NOT RECTIFY THE PROBLEM.
