The contact owns a 2004 Honda Accord. The contact stated while driving approximately 30 MPH, the SRS air bag warning light started blinking off and on. The contact related the failure to having had the driver's side air bag replaced under NHTSA Campaign Number: 15V320000 (Air Bags). The contact stated that the air bag warning light remained illuminated continually. Additionally, the contact stated that the horn, cruise control, and the passenger’s side air bag sensor had also failed to operate as needed. The contact had taken the vehicle to a local dealer; however, the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 405,000.

WHILE DRIVING MY CAR AT 60 MPH ON CRUISE CONTROL, IT SUDDENLY STARTED INCREASING SPEED. THEN I NOTICED THAT THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WAS PRESSED TO THE FLOOR OF MY CAR. THEN I BEGAN TO USE THE BRAKES TO TRY AND CONTROL THE SPEED, BUT THEY DID NOT FUNCTION WELL AT ALL. FINALLY AFTER STRUGGLING IN ON THIS RURAL ROAD, I WAS ABLE TO SLOW IT DOWN, I CALLED 911, THEN I JUST USED THE EMERGENCY BRAKE TO STOP IT BECAUSE I DIDN'T KNOW WHAT ELSE TO DO. ALTHOUGH THIS WAS A TERRIFYING EXPERIENCE, IT COULD HAVE BEEN TRAGIC IF HAD NOT BEEN IN A RURAL AREA WITH VERY LITTLE TRAFFIC. UP TO THAT POINT, THIS CAR HAD BEEN IN EXCELLENT CONDITION LOW MAINTENANCE AND REALLY GOOD CAR, BUT THAT DAY IT WAS SMOKING AND I THOUGHT IT WOULD CATCH FIRE. LASTLY, THE REPAIRS COST $696 WHICH IS MUCH MORE THAN I HAD EVER PAID FOR THIS CAR

I'M DRIVING 427 SOUTH (TORONTO) LATE EVENING, AND I APPROACH SOMEONE WHO IS DRIVING 80 KM/HR, SO I DECIDE TO OVERTAKE THE CAR. I CHANGE A LANE, ACCELERATE FOR COUPLE SECONDS, AND WHEN I RELEASE A GAS PEDAL, MY CAR DOESN'T SLOW DOWN, IT CONTINUES TO ACCELERATE ON ITS OWN, AND ENGINE IS RUNNING VIOLENTLY, IT REACHES MAX RPMS (I THINK IT'S 5000 RPMS), AND THAN A COMPUTER DROPS RPMS DOWN. SO, NOTHING IS PRESSING A GAS PEDAL, AND THE ENGINE PULLING LIKE CRAZY, CAR IS ACCELERATING, AND HIGHWAY IS OVER IN 5 SECONDS. I TOUCH A GAS PEDAL - IT IS SOFT, BUT IT'S SPRINGING BACK WHEN I RELEASE IT, AND THERE IS NO A BOTTLE OR A CARPET STUCK IN BETWEEN, I CHECK CRUSE CONTROL - IT IS NOT ON, SO I PRESS BRAKES AND TRY TO SLOW DOWN THE CAR WITH BRAKES WHICH IS NOT EASY BECAUSE THE ENGINE IS STILL RUNNING ON MAX RPMS AND PULLING A CAR, YOU CAN FEEL IT. SO, I STOP EVENTUALLY AT THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND SHUT DOWN THE ENGINE. THE NEXT DAY I CHECKED UNDER THE HOOD FOR THE PROBLEM, AND I DISCOVERED THE NEXT. THERE IS A PART OF A CAR CALLED A THROTTLE, THAT REGULATES AIR INTAKE IN THE ENGINE, AND THIS WAY SPEED OF ENGINE IS REGULATED TOO. THE THROTTLE IS REGULATED BY TWO CABLES. ONE CABLE (NOT A WIRE) GOES FROM A GAS PEDAL, AND IT'S ATTACHED TO A METAL BRACKET ON A THROTTLE. ANOTHER CABLE (NOT A WIRE) GOES FROM CRUISE CONTROL, AND IT'S ATTACHED TO A PLASTIC BRACKET ON A THROTTLE. SO, PLASTIC DETERIORATED OVER TIME, AND CRUISE CONTROL CABLE BROKE OFF AND JAMMED THE THROTTLE ON THE MAX OPENING WHEN I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY. I THINK HONDA HAS TO DO A RECALL TO FIX THIS SITUATION BECAUSE IT IS A SAFETY ISSUE. WHEN SOMETHING BRAKES IN YOUR CAR AND YOU CANNOT START A CAR, OR WHEN SOMETHING STARTS SQUEAKING OR RATTLING, AND YOU HAVE TIME TO GO TO A MECHANIC TO FIX IT - IT'S ONE STORY, BUT WHEN YOU DRIVE AND YOU CAR ACCELERATES ON IT'S OWN - IT'S A DIFFERENT STORY.

THE AIR BAGS DEPLOYED. THE DRIVER SUSTAINED INJURIES TO THE RIBS AND HAD A LOT OF INTERNAL BRUISING, INCLUDING LACERATIONS FROM THE AIR BAG DEPLOYMENT. THE INJURIES REQUIRED MEDICAL ATTENTION. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED AND TOWED TO A TOW LOT. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 39,655.

4 CYLINDER AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION STARTED SLIPPING DURING ACCELERATION FROM A COMPLETE STOP. TRANSMISSION WOULD CAUSE THE CAR TO HER FORWARD WHEN BREAKING AND AFTER COMING TO A COMPLETE STOP. THE TRANSMISSION COMPLETELY FAILED AT JUST OVER 54,000 MILES AND WILL NOT UPSHIFT. THE CAR WILL ONLY GO ABOUT 20 MPH, WHEN THE ACCELERATOR IS ENGAGED, IT ONLY REVS UP THE ENGINE AND THE VEHICLE REDLINES, THE TRANSMISSION WILL NOT SHIFT INTO A HIGHER GEAR.

THIS HAPPENED AS I TRIED TO ACCELERATE TO MERGE ONTO ANOTHER FREEWAY. IT SEEMED AS THOUGH THE CAR WAS STUCK IN NEUTRAL WHICH IT WAS NOT. THIS WAS VERY DANGEROUS BECAUSE AS OTHER VEHICLES WERE TRAVELING AT HIGH SPEEDS MY CAR NEARLY CAME TO A HALT ON THE FREEWAY. LUCKILY, I PRAYED MY WAY INTO GEAR AND IT WORKED. IT WAS QUITE SCARY SINCE I WAS TRAVELING WITH MY CHILD I EASILY COULD OF BEEN REAR ENDED. NO SENSOR LIGHTS TURNED ON, THERE WERE NO WARNING LIGHTS. MY CAR HAS BEEN SERVICED ROUTINELY AND 2 DAYS LATER IT HAPPENED AGAIN. IT IS NOW AT THE DEALERSHIP. WHEN I READ UP ON THE PROBLEM IT SEEMS TO BE COMMON. ON ONE SITE I SAW OVER 200 COMPLAINTS FOR THE SAME COMPLAINTS AND SAME MAKE OF THE CAR. I CAN ONLY IMAGINE HOW MANY MORE COMPLAINTS THERE HAVE BEEN. MY 2004 HONDA ACCORD V6 TRANSMISSION DECIDED TO DIE ON SATURDAY NOVEMBER THE 15TH. I WAS DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE WHEN I REALIZED THE RPM'S WERE GOING UP, BUT I WASN'T GETTING ANY ACCELERATION. I PULLED OVER TO CHECK MY TRANSMISSION FLUID, OIL AND ETC. EVERYTHING WAS GOOD. SO I START BACK ON THE ROAD TRYING TO MAKE IT TO MY DESTINATION. THE NEXT THING I KNOW I HEARD WHAT SOUNDED LIKE A CHAIN BREAKING OFF AND THE CAR JUMPED BACK LIKE I WAS GEARING DOWN REALLY LOW. I HIT MY HEAD ON THE STEERING WHEEL AND BLACKED OUT FOR A MINUTE. THANKFULLY I HAD SOMEONE WITH ME AND THEY GRABBED THE STEERING WHEEL AND DIRECTED US OFF THE INTERSTATE. WE LIFTED THE HOOD ONCE AGAIN AND COULD SMELL SOMETHING BURNT. WE WERE ABLE TO GET IT TO A MECHANIC WHO SAID THE TRANSMISSION HAD FAILED. WE HAD NO ISSUES PRIOR TO THE DATE THE TRANSMISSION FAILED. I'M EXTREMELY UPSET BY THIS. THE CAR HAD BEEN TAKEN CARE OF AND MAINTAINED REGULARLY. MY FAMILY IS HONDA ENTHUSIAST AND HAVE NEVER HAD PROBLEMS. THAT IS WHY WE ALWAYS BOUGHT HONDA'S, FOR THEIR RELIABILITY. IT WAS NOT A FLOOR MAT PROBLEM. SHE GOT UP TO 85MPH!! SHE HAD TO DOWN SHIFT (AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION) TO TRY AND SLOW DOWN TO GET OFF THE FREEWAY IN YORBA LINDA, CA. THANKFULLY, SHE GOT OFF SAFELY AND MANAGED TO STOP THE CAR. SHE HAD AAA TOW THE CAR HOME. EVEN THE TOW TRUCK DRIVER COULD NOT GET THE CAR IN NEUTRAL AND SAID HE FELT THE CAR REVVING. SOUNDS JUST LIKE THE TOYOTA INCIDENTS, BUT WAS NOT AWARE OF HONDAS HAVING THIS ISSUE. THIS IS VERY SERIOUS!!! SO VERY GRATEFUL THAT MY DAUGHTER DID NOT GET HURT OR INJURE ANYONE ELSE. UPON ENTERING THE EXPRESSWAY (FROM THE ENTRANCE RAMP), I ENGAGED THE ACCELERATOR (GAS PEDAL) TO TRANSITION INTO EXISTING TRAFFIC. UPON REACHING AN ADEQUATE SPEED, I QUICKLY BEGAN TO APPROACH A CAR IN FRONT OF ME (THIS WAS DURING MORNING RUSH HOUR). I NEEDED TO APPLY A BIT OF PRESSURE TO THE BRAKES TO REACT TO FLOW OF TRAFFIC - AND UPON TAKING MY FOOT OFF THE BRAKE, REALIZED THAT MY CAR WAS STILL ACCELERATING. I QUICKLY REAPPLIED PRESSURE TO THE BRAKES AND TRIED TO USE MY LEFT FOOT TO "UN-JAM" THE ACCELERATOR. I DID NOT LOOK TO SEE WHAT MIGHT HAVE CAUSED THE ACCELERATOR TO STICK, AS I WAS FOCUSED ON THE ROAD IN FRONT OF ME. I THEN APPLIED HEAVY PRESSURE TO THE BRAKES, ENGAGED THE EMERGENCY BRAKE, AND TURNED OFF THE IGNITION. SEPTEMBER: ON THE 15 FWY SOUTH ON A SUNDAY IN SEPTEMBER WITH MY MOTHER AND KIDS GOING AROUND 70MPH IN FAST LANE. CAR THEN LOST POWER INSTANTLY. WENT DOWN TO 40MPH CAR BEGAN TO JERK AND SPUTTER. HAD TO PUT ON HAZARD LIGHT AND GET OFF FWY AS SAFE AS POSSIBLE. VERY DANGEROUS!!!!! STOP AND CALLED AAA. ENGINE CODES READ AGAIN. CODES WERE: PO300, PO3001, PO302, PO303, PO304, PO305, PO306,.P2138. SHUT OFF CAR WAITED 30MINS AND CAR DROVE FINE AND TCS LIGHT WENT OFF, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WENT OFF LATER. TOOK CAR TO HONDA SPECIALIST AND THEY SAID IT WAS THE MISFIRE OF 1ST COIL SPRING. GOT THAT REPLACED ALONG WITH FUEL INJECTION CLEANING AND OIL CHANGE. NOVEMBER-JANUARY: CAR RUNNING SLUGGISH. HONDA DEALER SAYS NOTHING IS WRONG. TAKING OFF SLUGGISH. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT FLASHES ON AND OFF FROM TIME TO TIME. FEB 13TH DRIVING HOME ON 210 FWY EAST AT 8:30P. GOING 70MPH IN 6THE GEAR CRUISING AND CAR INSTANTLY LOOSES POWER AGAIN TO 30 MPH. MAKING CARS SWERVE AROUND ME. HAD TO PULL OFF FWY VERY SLOW WITH HAZARD LIGHTS ON. CAR BEGAN TO SPUTTER AND JERK. FEB16. CHECK ENGINE AND TCS LIGHT TURNED ON WHILE STOPPED AT STOP LIGHT. CAR LOST POWER AND SLOWLY TURNED INTO INTERSECTION. PULLED OVER. NOW GOING HIGH SPEEDS FOR LONG DISTANCES THE DASH BOARD LIGHTS UP, THE D LIGHT BLINKS, THE TRIANGLE COMES ON, THE ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON. ONCE THE CAR COOLS DOWN MOST LIGHTS GO OFF AND AFTER 3 CYCLES, THE ENGINE LIGHT GOES OFF. AUTO ZONE CAME UP WITH SOME P CODE THAT IT WAS A SENSOR. THE TRANS GUY REPLACED IT., I AM STILL GETTING DASHBOARD LIGHTS AND THIS TIME I LOST THE SPEEDOMETER. SOMEONE SAID THE TRANS IS OVERHEATING. BUT THEN WHY THE P CODE THAT IT IS A SENSOR ELECTRICAL PROBLEM? IF HONDA IS HAVING SUCH A BIG PROBLEM WITH THIS WHY ISN'T THE HIGHWAY SAFETY COMMISSION GETTING INVOLVED? WHY DOESN'T EVERYONE WRITE TO THEM AND MAKE A COMPLAINT? WHY AREN'T YOU GETTING INVOLVED WITH THIS ISSUE? HONDA PUT A BAD PRODUCT IN THEIR CARS AND THE CONSUMERS ARE SUFFERING. IN 1970S CHEVY PUT A SMALL TRANS IN A MID SIZE CAR WITH PLASTIC PARTS. AFTER 3 TRANSMISSIONS AND A TRIP TO COURT THE JUDGE ORDERED THEY PUT A BIGGER TRANS IN MY CAR. IS THIS THE SAME THING? THIS IS A VERY SERIOUS PROBLEM WITH HONDA AND THEIR TRANSMISSIONS AND I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHY THE CONSUMERS ARE GETTING THE RAW DEAL ON THIS? UNINTENDED ACCELERATION CAR SHIFT LEVER WAS IN D3 AND THE BRAKE WAS DOWN WHEN THE ENGINE STARTED REVVING UP AND DOWN AS IF IN NEUTRAL. THINKING THE RACING NOISE WAS FROM ANOTHER VEHICLE THE DRIVER RELEASED THE BRAKE IN PREPARATION OF DRIVING. THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY LURCHED FORWARD BURNING RUBBER. RE-APPLYING THE BRAKES BROUGHT IT TO A STOP. AT THAT POINT IT WAS NOTICED THE GEAR SELECTOR WAS ON D3 RATHER THAN D. THE GEAR WAS PUT INTO DRIVE AND ALL SEEMED OK. THE FAILURE COULD NOT BE DUPLICATED LATER AND NO WARNING LIGHTS CAME ON. THE ONLY UNUSUAL THING WAS THAT WE HAD JUST USED THE VEHICLE TO JUMP START ANOTHER. *NM

AS I WAS PULLING OUT OF MY PARKING SPOT AT THE LOCAL KMART, IN MY 2004 HONDA ACCORD EX, I NOTICED ANOTHER CAR BACKING OUT ALSO. I APPLIED MY BRAKE AND PUT MY CAR FROM REVERSE INTO DRIVE TO PULL A LITTLE WAYS BACK INTO MY PARKING SPACE SO I WOULD NOT GET INTO AN ACCIDENT, WHEN SUDDENLY AND WITHOUT WARNING (THE BLINK OF AN EYE) MY CAR CRASHED INTO ANOTHER VEHICLE. IN SHOCK, I PRESSED HARDER ON THE BRAKE, BUT MY CAR CONTINUED TO ACCELERATE AND I COULD NOT STOP IT. I HIT TWO OTHER PARKED CARS BEFORE THE BRAKES FINALLY STOPPED THE CAR. THANK GOD IT STOPPED AS MY CAR WAS HEADING TOWARD THE KMART STORE. ONE 85-YEAR OLD LADY WAS INJURED WHILE IN HER CAR. THE OTHER TWO CARS WERE EMPTY. A LOT OF DAMAGE TO 3 VEHICLES PLUS ALMOST $7,000 DAMAGE TO MY ACCORD. AFTER MY CAR WAS REPAIRED, I ASKED THE HONDA DEALERSHIP TO LOOK AT MY CAR AND THEY COULD FIND NOTHING WRONG. I ASKED TO HAVE THE CRUISE CONTROL DISCONNECTED AS I HAVE READ THAT MAY BE WHAT CAUSES "SUDDEN ACCELERATION ACCIDENTS" AND HONDA REFUSED SAYING IF SOMETHING WENT WRONG THEY WOULD BE LIABLE. THIS IS A NIGHTMARE, JUST HORRIBLE, AS I AM BEING FORCED TO DRIVE MY CAR AND I AM FRIGHTENED ANOTHER INCIDENT WILL OCCUR. SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE! *JB

WAS ATTEMPTING TO EXPLAIN TO MY SON HOW TO STOP MY 2004 HONDA ACCORD BY PULLING THE EMERGENCY BRAKE, WHILE THE CAR WAS MOVING IN CRUISE CONTROL. THE CRUISE CONTROL DOES NOT DISCONNECT. PULLING ON THE EMERGENCY BRAKE ONLY MAKES THE CRUISE CONTROL INCREASE THE SPEED OF THE ENGINE. *JB
I WAS DRIVING ALONG AT APPROXIMATELY 35-40 MILES PER HOUR WHEN I STARTED TO BRAKE AT A RED-LIGHT. MY CAR DID DID NOT STOP ACCELERATING. I PRESSED THE BRAKES AS FAR AS THEY WOULD GO TO SLOW DOWN. WHEN I GOT TO A LOW SPEED I PUT THE CAR IN NEUTRAL AND THEN I PUT THE CAR IN PARK AND TURNED THE IGNITION OFF. A MINUTE LATER I TURNED THE IGNITION ON AND THE ENGINE WAS STILL RACING WHILE IT WAS IN PARK. I BROUGHT IT TO A DEALERSHIP AND THEY HELD IT FOR 2-3 DAYS AND INFORMED ME THAT THEY DIDN'T FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH MY VEHICLE. I AM VERY CONCERNED DUE TO THE FACT THAT THIS WAS THE THIRD INCIDENT OF UNCONTROLLABLE ACCELERATION.

(THE VEHICLE IS AT D-DRIVE GEAR) WHEN I PUT MY FOOT ON BRAKE PEDAL TO SLOW DOWN MY 2004 HONDA ACCORD EX-L FOR A RED TRAFFIC LIGHT, WHEN THE SPEED METER WAS LOWER THAN 20 MPH SOMETHING FUNNY WITH ENGINE HAPPENED. THE VEHICLE ENGINE RPM JUMPED HIGH TO AROUND 2000 THEN STAYED AT AROUND 1300 EVEN THOUGH IT IS TOTALLY STOPPED. ENGINE WAS STILL DELIVERING EXTRA POWER AND MAKING NOISE LOUDER THAN IT SHOULD BE. I HAD TO STEP HARDER ON THE BRAKE IMMEDIATELY TO STOP THE CAR TO AVOID HITTING THE CAR IN THE FRONT. IT WONT HAPPEN OFTEN BUT HAVE ALREADY HAPPENED 3 TIMES (MAY 28TH, JUNE 16TH AND JUNE 18TH). *AK
