Since I have owned this vehicle (bought used with 68,000 miles) it has had an issue that over 10 mechanics have not yet solved. It has slowly escalated to the point it is now unable to be driven at 250,000 miles. It is an idle issue, the car started revving up to around 3,000 rpm’s (on hot days it seemed but it also started to happen in the winter ) whenever I would put the car into park after driving it a small amount of time. The safety mechanism would kick in on the vehicle making it impossible to put back into gear and I would be forced to shut the car off and let it rest for around 30 minutes before it would start without immediately revving up to the red line again. I’ve replaced everything that every mechanic has told me that it could be. Even tried to replace almost everything all at once. Over time this issue began to get extremely worse and the vehicle would start to accelerate on its own to the point I almost crashed it three different times because I would be unable to slow the vehicle down coming to a stop sign and I’d have to throw the e brake on while pressing the main brake system. Afterwards I’d have to quickly find a parking spot and shut the car off due to the damage I felt like the engine was taking. Then it seemed like possibly an electrical issue because the power would drain overnight and the car wouldn’t start without a jump even after replacing the starter, alternator, battery, etc. I’ll end by saying now when I can get the car started, the last time that I drove it, it had the same issue of accelerating on its own and the rpm’s increasing to around 2,500 or 3,000 or even more at times and felt as if the automatic transmission was missing or slipping gears and the car would almost stall out and shake violently as if you were driving a manual transmission and it was the moment right before you killed the engine. The last time I drove it I had to pull over at a gas station and call someone to come pick me up and pull the car home.

ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS MY 05 ACCORD COUPE WILL STAY ACCELERATED WHEN BRAKES ARE PRESSED, IN NEUTRAL, OR RELEASING THE ACCELERATER. ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS I HAVE PRESSED THE BRAKE ONLY TO NOT SLOW DOWN. THANKFULLY I WAS ON OPEN HIGHWAY. THIS HAS HAPPENED AND CONTINUES TO HAPPEN ON CITY STREETS AND HIGHWAYS. AT LOW SPEEDS AND HIGH.

ENGINE STALLED MULTIPLE TIMES WHILE DRIVING (AT VARIOUS SPEEDS) AND ALMOST CAUSED CRASH. VEHICLE SOMETIMES WILL NOT START, IDLES ERRATICALLY WHILE RUNNING OR WHILE DRIVING, OR STALLS WITHOUT WARNING WHILE DRIVING. APPARENTLY THERE IS A RECALL FOR THIS ISSUE ON OTHER 2005 HONDA ACCORDS HOWEVER WHEN I LOOK UP MY VEHICLE'S VIN, THERE IS NO RECALL. I CALLED HONDA AND THEY TOO SAID THERE IS NO COVERAGE FOR THIS REPAIR AS MY VEHICLE IS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL.

SIMILAR ISSUE AS REPORT 10659813. THE AIRBAG/SEATBELT LIGHT ABOVE THE GAS GAUGE RANDOMLY STAYS LIT. DOESN'T HAPPEN EACH TIME THE VEHICLE IS USED, AND OCCURS MORE IN COLD WEATHER THAN WARM. DEALER HAS BEEN NOTIFIED SEVERAL TIMES AND EACH TIME STATES THAT THEY COULD NOT DO ANYTHING UNLESS WE BROUGHT THE VEHICLE TO THEM WHILE THE LIGHT WAS ON. THIS SITUATION DOES NOT HAPPEN CONSISTENTLY ENOUGH TO ALLOW US TO TAKE IT TO A DEALER WHEN THE LIGHT IS ON. ALSO SPEED CONTROL DOES NOT WORK!

I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY. THE CRUISE CONTROL BUTTON WAS ON BUT I WAS NOT USING THE CRUISE CONTROL. HAVEN'T USED IT IN A COUPLE WEEKS BUT THE BUTTON WAS SHOWING ON THE DASH. I TOOK MY FOOT OF THE GAS PETAL TO SLOW DOWN AND THE CAR BEGAN ACCELERATING. FIRST I TRIED TO APPLY THE BRAKE AND THAT SLOWED THE CAR DOWN CONSIDERABLE BUT I I COULD TEL IT WAS STILL TRYING TO ACCELERATE AND I DIDN'T WANT TO WEAR OUT THE BRAKES AND HAVE NO WAY OF STOPPING SO I TOOK MY FOOT OFF THE BRAKE AND TRIED JIGGLING THE GAS WITH MY FOOT THINKING IT WAS STUCK OR BLOCKED AND IT WASN'T. IT FELT LIKE HOW THE GAS PEDAL FEELS WHEN IT'S IN CRUISE CONTROL JUST KIND OF JIGGLING AS YOU PRESS IT. SO I TURNED THE CRUISE CONTROL BUTTON OFF DID AND IT WAS STILL ACCELERATING SO I PUT TH CAR IN NEUTRAL IT REVVED UP TO A VERY HIGH RPM CAN'T REMEMBER EXACTLY WHAT BUT IT SOUNDS LIKE IT WAS FULL THROTTLE DID THAT FOR ABOUT 2-3 SECONDS WHILE I BRAKED AND SLOWED THE CAR DOWN THEN IT STOPPED REVVING AND AFTER I STOPPED FOR S COUPLE MINUTES I DROVE AGAIN AND IT WAS FINE THE REST OF THE DAY. I WAS GOING ABOUT 65 WHEN IT GOT STUCK AND IT GOT UP TO HIGH 70S BEFORE I APPLIED THE BRAKE AND GOT IT DOWN TO 60 THEN IT BEGAN ACCELERATING AGAIN AND GOT UP TO LIKE 70 BEFORE I PUT IT IN NEUTRAL. IF SOMEONE ELSE WAS DRIVING AND DIDN'T THINK TO PUT THE CAR IN NEUTRAL IT COULD HAVE BEEN MUCH MORE SERIOUS.

"SUDDEN UNINTENDED ACCELERATION" IN A PRIVATE PARKING. THIS HAPPENED WHEN THE DRIVER WAS ABOUT TO PARK THE CAR ON FEB 27, 2017. I WAS THE DRIVER AND MY HUSBAND WAS A PASSENGER IN THE PASSENGER SIDE OF THE BACK SEAT, WITH SEAT BELTS ON. AFTER I ENTERED THE PARKING AREA, AS I WAS ABOUT TO PARK, THE CAR ABRUPTLY SPED UP, CRASHED INTO THE BUILDING AHEAD OF ME, AND THE DRIVER'S AIRBAG WAS DEPLOYED. THE FRONT OF THE CAR AND THE BUILDING WALL WERE DAMAGED (PHOTOS ARE ENCLOSED). ALL THIS HAPPENED SO SUDDENLY AND UNEXPECTEDLY. SEVERAL PEOPLE FROM INSIDE THE BUILDING RUSHED OUT TO SEE WHAT HAPPENED. I WAS VISIBLY SHAKEN AND QUITE FRIGHTENED BY THIS ACCIDENT. THE BUSINESS OFFICE STAFF TOOK PHOTOS OF THE DAMAGED WALL AND THE VEHICLE. MY TWO THUMBS WERE ACHING WITH MINOR BURN, BUT SINCE THERE WAS NO OTHER OBVIOUS PHYSICAL INJURY TO US, WE DECLINED THE EMERGENCY MEDICAL CARE. STATE POLICE TROOPER CAME, TOOK SOME INFORMATION BUT SAID THAT BECAUSE THIS ACCIDENT HAPPENED IN A PRIVATE PROPERTY IT WILL NOT BE REPORTED. I HAD NEVER THOUGHT ANYTHING LIKE THIS ACCIDENT COULD EVER HAPPEN. I GOOGLED AND FOUND CASES IN WHICH UNINTENDED SUDDEN ACCELERATION HAD ACTUALLY HAPPENED. HASN'T THIS SAFETY ISSUE BEEN ADDRESSED? MY HUSBAND I ARE THE ORIGINAL OWNER OF THIS CAR.

I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AND I WHEN I REMOVED MY FOOT FROM THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL THE CAR KEPT UP THE SAME SPEED. I PUT MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE AND IT DID NOT SLOW THE CAR. I DOWNSHIFTED ALL THE WAY DOWN TO FIRST GEAR YET WAS UNABLE TO SLOW THE CAR. I FINALLY TURNED OFF THE ENGINE AND WAS ABLE TO STOP THE CAR ON THE SIDE OF THE HIGHWAY. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 HONDA ACCORD. WHILE DRIVING AT ANY SPEED, THE DRIVER STOPPED AT AN INTERSECTION AND THE VEHICLE IDLED AT A HIGH SPEED. THE DRIVER HAD TO APPLY EXTRA PRESSURE TO THE BRAKE PEDAL TO PREVENT THE VEHICLE FROM ACCELERATING. DURING THE FAILURE, THE CONTACT HAD TO SHIFT INTO NEUTRAL AND TURN OFF THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC AND THE THROTTLE BODY WAS REPLACED TWICE; HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURES. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 167,000.

AND MY CAR WAS AT ABOUT 40 MPH AND ALL OF A SUDDEN STOPPED MOVING AND I FELT THAT IT WAS SOMETHING BAD SO I CUT THE CAR OFF AND RESTARTED MY CAR AND IT STARTED UP NICELY ONCE I SWITCHED GEARS FROM PARK TO REVERSE THE CAR DIDN'T MOVE. SO I WENT TO PUT CAR INTO PARK AND THERE WAS A REALLY LOUD NOISE WHICH SCARED ME CRAZY. I CUT THE CAR BACK OFF AND IT BEGAN TO ROLL BACKWARDS IN THE PARK GEAR SO I HAD TO PUT THE CAR EMERGENCY BREAK ON TO KEEP IN PLACE. MONDAY MORNING WHICH I'D TODAY I GET MY CAR TOWED TO AAMCO AND THEY DIAGNOSTIC MY CAR AS A SHAFT FAILURE WHICH HAD BROKEN WHICH CAUSED THE CAR TO MAKE THE LOUD NOISE WHEN PLACED IN THE PARK GEAR AND THE CAR DOESN'T REALIZE WHICH GEAR IT'S IN BECAUSE IT IS BROKEN INSIDE THE TRANSMISSION

THIS IS THE SECOND TIME THAT THIS VEHICLE CAUSES AN ACCIDENT DUE TO INVOLUNTARY ACCELERATION DEFECT. I WAS COMING TO A COMPLETE STOP TO PARK THE CAR WHEN ALL OF A SUDDEN IT ACCELERATED ON ITS OWN AND SPED INTO A BUILDING. FIRST IT HIT AN IRON BENCH PUSHING IT INTO THE WALL. THE CAR MISSED HITTING A YOUNG MOTHER AND HER FOUR LITTLE KIDS BY MERE SECONDS. MY INSURANCE COMPANY SENT ONE OF THEIR OWN ADJUSTERS TO INSPECT THE DAMAGES, AND DETERMINED THAT THE CAR SHOULD BE REPAIRED. IN THE MEANTIME THE PEOPLE AT THE BODY SHOP WHERE THE CAR WAS TOWED TO KEPT TELLING ME THAT THE CAR WAS NOT SAFE TO BE PUT ON THE ROAD AGAIN. I PLEADED WITH MY INSURER TO HAVE IT TOTALED AS I WAS TOO AFRAID TO DRIVE IT AGAIN AFTER TWO ACCIDENTS, AND MY CONSCIENCE DID NOT ALLOW ME TO SELL THE CAR AFTER THE REPAIRS PUTTING SOMEBODY ELSE IN SAME KIND OF DANGER. I ALSO CALLED HONDA, BUT THEIR REPLY WAS THAT HONDA WAS NOT GOING TO DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT. HONDA FOLKS WERE EVEN ANNOYED THAT I CALLED THEM SAYING THAT MY INSURER WAS THE ONE TO CONTACT THEM THROUGH THE PROPER CHANNELS. FINALLY MY INSURANCE AGREED TO TOTAL THE CAR. HOWEVER, I SAW THAT THE CAR WAS SOLD TO AN AUCTION DEALER LISTING IT AS "SALVAGE TITLE/REBUILDABLE." THE CAR IS FOR SALE AGAIN STATING THAT IT WILL COST $4,872.00 TO FIX IT. MY INSURANCE COMPANY INCREASED MY PREMIUMS CONSIDERABLY CONSIDERING ME THE PARTY AT FAULT. CAR DETAILS: - 05 ACCORD SE COUPE WITH ~65K MILES (AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION, 4 CYLINDER) RECENTLY, I HAVE NOTICED THAT THE CAR WILL NOT ACCELERATE EVEN WHEN I KEEP PUSHING THE GAS PEDAL. TYPICALLY HAPPENS AT AROUND 50 TO 60 MPH MARKER (THE MPH NEEDLE WILL JUST STALL AT ONE LOCATION AND NOT MOVE). I HAVE TO TAP THE BRAKE LIGHTLY A COUPLE OF TIMES OR LET THE CAR COAST DOWN WITHOUT GIVING IT ANY GAS (IT KIND OF RELEASES WHATEVER IS HOLDING THE CAR FROM ACCELERATING AND RELEASES THE MPH NEEDLE). I THEN ACCELERATE THE CAR AGAIN AND IT WILL GO HIGHER THAN 60 MPH. KEEPS HAPPENING OFTEN (NOT EVERY TIME THOUGH). MY GAS MILEAGE IS LOWER WHICH CONFIRMS THAT SOMETHING IS HAPPENING. I WAS DRIVING ON INTERSTATE 20/59 NEAR FT. PAYNE, ALABAMA WITH THE CRUISE CONTROL SET ON 75 MPH. I CHANGED LANES TO PASS A SLOWER CAR BUT DID NOT TOUCH THE GAS PEDAL. THE CAR STARTED TO ACCELERATE ON ITS OWN. I TAPPED THE BREAKS TO TURN CRUISE CONTROL OFF BUT THE CAR CONTINUED TO ACCELERATE WITHOUT TOUCHING THE GAS PEDAL. THE ACCELERATION WAS NOT A FULL THROTTLE ACCELERATION, JUST A MODERATE INCREASE. I THEN SHIFTED THE CAR FROM DRIVE TO NEUTRAL AND THE RPM'S JUMPED UP TO REDLINE, AGAIN WITHOUT TOUCHING THE GAS PEDAL. LUCKILY, A REST AREA WAS APPROACHING AND I MANAGED TO PULL THE CAR INTO THE REST AREA PARKING LOT PLAYING WITH THE DRIVE/NEUTRAL OF THE TRANSMISSION AND USING THE BRAKES. ONCE I MADE IT TO A PARKING SPACE I TURNED THE CAR OFF AND SHIFTED IT INTO PARK. I WAITED A FEW SECONDS AND TURNED THE CAR BACK ON. THE RPM'S AGAIN JUMPED UP TO REDLINE WITHOUT ME TOUCHING THE GAS PEDAL. I SHUT THE CAR OFF AGAIN AND PUT MY FOOT UNDERNEATH THE GAS PEDAL AND PULLED UP. I CRANKED THE CAR AGAIN AND IT ACTED NORMAL. I CHECKED UNDER THE HOOD AND EVERYTHING LOOKED FINE. AFTER SOME DELIBERATION, WE DECIDED TO CONTINUE ON OUR TRIP AND THE CAR WAS FINE FOR THE NEXT 4.5 HOURS. WE DROVE BACK SUNDAY, MAY 19 AND THE CAR AGAIN DROVE FINE FOR 6.5 HOURS AND HASN'T HAD A PROBLEM SINCE. THE MORNING BEFORE THE INCIDENT, I CHANGED THE ALTERNATOR AND OIL. I STRONGLY BELIEVE THAT THIS HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH THE ALTERNATOR OR OIL CHANGE. ALSO, I DOUBLED CHECKED THE CARPET MAT IN THE CAR AND IT WAS NOT EVEN CLOSE TO THE GAS PEDAL. MY BROTHER WAS DRIVING OUR CAR ON THE 278-BQE IN BROOKLYN, NY. THE RPM ON THE CAR SUDDENLY WENT TO 7000 RPM AND THEN THE CAR STARTED TO DECELERATE. THE CAR WOULD NOT ACCELERATE AND IT ENDED STOPPING ON THE EXPRESS LANE ON THE HIGHWAY. HE HAD THE HAZARD LIGHTS ON BUT CARS WERE STILL COMING AT 60-70 MPH, MANY BARELY MISSING THE CAR AS THEY SWERVED INTO THE NEXT LANE. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 HONDA ACCORD. THE CONTACT HAD A 40,000 MILE REPAIR PERFORMED AT THE DEALER. FOUR DAYS LATER, THE GAUGE CONTROL MODULE SHORTED OUT INTERNALLY. THE DEALER ATTEMPTED TO REPROGRAM THE MODULE, BUT WAS UNSUCCESSFUL. THE MODULE WAS SENT OUT TO PAOLO ALTO, CA TO BE REPROGRAMMED. ONCE IT WAS COMPLETED, THE MODULE WAS RETURNED TO THE DEALER FOR INSTALLATION IN THE VEHICLE. A COUPLE OF MONTHS LATER, WHILE DRIVING AT AN UNKNOWN SPEED WITH THE CRUISE CONTROL ACTIVATED, IT WOULD NOT DISENGAGE WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED. THE VEHICLE WAS LOCKED IN THE CRUISE CONTROL MODE AND IT CONTINUED MOVING TOWARDS ONCOMING TRAFFIC. THE CONTACT LOST CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE AND CRASHED INTO TWO VEHICLES. THE CONTACT AND ANOTHER PERSON WERE INJURED. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE INVESTIGATOR STATED THAT THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER MODULE CAUSED THE CRASH. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 40,000.

I FEEL THAT THE COLD IDLE RPM ON OUR CAR IS SET TOO HIGH AND CAUSES THE CAR TO LURCH WHEN PUT IN GEAR FOLLOWING A COLD START. I HAVE CONTACTED BOTH THE MANUFACTURER AND THE DEALERSHIP AND BOTH SAY THAT THE COLD RPM SETTING ON MY CAR IS WITHIN SPECIFICATIONS AND CANNOT BE ADJUSTED. THERE HAS BEEN NO FAILURE OR INCIDENT OR CONSEQUENCES, BUT I FEEL THAT UNDER CERTAIN CONDITIONS SUCH AS A COLD START ON AN ICY DRIVEWAY WITH AN INEXPERIENCED OR ELDERLY DRIVER, THERE MAY WELL BE A FAILURE/INCIDENT/CONSEQUENCE. *JB

I WAS TRYING TO MANEUVER THROUGH A CROWDED GAS STATION AND HAD BACKED UP. WHEN I PUT THE CAR INTO DRIVE, IT LURCHED FORWARD AND ACCELERATED. PRESSING THE BRAKES AS HARD AS I COULD HAD NO EFFECT. THE ONLY WAY TO STOP WAS TO HIT SOMETHING (WHICH ENDED UP BEING CARS STOPPED FOR A RED LIGHT, BUT IT COULD EASILY HAVE BEEN A GAS PUMP, PEDESTRIAN OR PERSONAL PROPERTY). MY CAR HAD TO BE TOWED AND IS IN THE BODY SHOP NOW. I WILL HAVE HONDA INVESTIGATE THE ENGINE. *JB

MY CAR SUDDENLY ACCELERATED UPON EXITING A CAR WASH AS I CHANGED FROM NEUTRAL TO DRIVE. THE DESIGN OF THE EXIT LANE FROM THE CAR WASH DRIVEWAY AND ACCESS TO THE FOUR LANE STREET WHERE THE CAR WASH IS LOCATED DOES NOT ALLOW FOR ANY SPEED AS THERE ARE TWO SHARP TURNS . MY CAR SPED ACROSS THE DRIVEWAY, INTO A CULVERT AND TOWARD THE HEAVY TRAFFIC. I APPLIED THE BRAKES IMMEDIATELY AND STEERED THE CAR AWAY FROM THE STREET, CROSSING SEVERAL BUSINESS PARKING LOTS AND LANDSCAPED AREAS. MY 2005 HONDA ACCORD RECEIVED SEVERAL THOUSANDS DOLLARS IN DAMAGE. HONDA DENIED IT WAS WARRANTY AND DID NOT SHOW ME THE COMPUTER DIAGNOSTIC EVALUATION. IN FACT, THIS INFORMATION SEEMED TO BE CLOSELY GUARDED BY THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT AT HONDA ORR IN HOT SPRINGS, AR. I WAS TOLD TO CONTACT MY INSURANCE COMPANY FOR REPAIRS. THIS CAR EXPERIENCED WHAT I WOULD EXPLAIN AS AN OPEN THROTTLE WHICH MAY BE A NEW PROBLEM FOR COMPUTERIZED CARS. I HAVE TAKEN SEVERAL PHOTOS OF MY CAR AND THE SCENE, WHICH SHOWS SEVERAL FEET OF SKID MARKS. *NM

WHEN THE GAS PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED THE VEHICLE FELT LIKE IT AS BRAKING AND ACELERATING AT THE SAME TIME. THE VEHICLE WAS PULLED OVER. WHILEPULLED OVER THE CONSUEMR TURNED THE VEHICLE OFF FOR ONE MINUTE, THEN TURNED IT BACK ON. PRIOR TO THE VEHICLE BEING PULLED OVER THE IOL AND ENGINE LIGHTS WERE ON. WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS RESTARTED THE LIGHTS WERE OFF. THE CONSUEMR ATTEMPTED TO DRIVE OFF BUT THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO PERFOR ERRATICALLY AGIAN. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP. DT*: THE CONTACT STATED UPON PURCHASE OF THE VEHICLE THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT, THE TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT AND THE TCS LIGHT ILLUMINATED ON THE DASHBOARD. ALSO, WHILE ATTEMPTING TO PUT THE VEHICLE IN PARK, THE DRIVE AND PARK LIGHTS ILLUMINATED. UPON INSPECTION THE DEALERSHIP DETERMINED THE SENSOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. FOUR DAYS LATER WHILE PULLING INTO THE DRIVEWAY THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED WITHOUT WARNING AND CRASHED THROUGH A FENCE AND INTO A BOULDER. ALTHOUGH SEAT BELTS WERE WORN AND THE AIR BAGS DEPLOYED, THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER SUSTAINED INJURIES. THE VEHICLE WAS TOTALED. THERE WAS PROPERTY DAMAGE AND A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED.

2005 HONDA ACCORD EXPERIENCED COLD ENGINE START AND UNEXPECTED ACCELERATION. *MR AT START UP THE ENGINE WOULD RUN AT 1500 RPM. WHEN PLACED IN GEAR WITH THE BRAKE PEDAL DEPRESSED, THE RPM WOULD DROP TO 1000. UPON RELEASE OF THE BRAKES, THE VEHICLE WOULD BEGIN TO ROLL AS NORMALLY EXPECTED FOR ABOUT 2 SECONDS AND THEN THE RPM WOULD SUDDENLY JUMP TO 1500 AND THE VEHICLE ACCELERATES IMMEDIATELY TO 10MPH OR LESS. HONDA SUGGESTED THAT THIS WAS NORMAL. *SC *JB
