The contact owned a 2008 Honda Accord. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed on a highway, an abnormal burning odor leaked through the air vents into the interior cabin. The contact stated that his girlfriend was sitting in the front passenger seat during the failure. The contact managed to pull over to the shoulder of the road after a fire appeared from under the driver's side of the hood. The contact attempted to extinguish the fire with a fire extinguisher, but was unsuccessful. The local fire department arrived on scene to extinguish the fire. The source of the fire was undetermined. A police report was filed. The contact fractured the fire extinguisher emergency glass with his hand and was injured. The contact did not seek medical attention. The vehicle was towed to a local independent tow lot, where it remains for further investigation. The vehicle was deemed a total loss. The local dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 200,000.

The contact stated that she noticed flames coming out from underneath the hood. The contact stated that the front end of the vehicle burned significantly and was propelling burning particles. The fire department advised the contact to exit the residence and to stay in the backyard for safety. The fire department extinguished the fire. A fire department report was filed. The contact was unsure whether the police arrived at the scene and whether a police report was filed. There was no injury sustained. The contact stated that the front end of the vehicle had melted. I am having issues with my transmission. My gears get stuck between 2nd and 3rd gear while driving. It loses power and I have to switch to Neutral and put it back in Drive in order for it to become unstuck. I have taken it to Honda, and they told me it was the computer, and several other things. They replaced $2000 worth of parts and the problem still happens. I took it back to Honda and they told me I needed a new transmission after they took $2000 from me. This initially started approximately 5 months ago when my engine light came on.

MY HUSBAND AND I WERE ON A TRIP AND I DIDN'T REALIZE IT, BUT PEOPLE KEPT FLASHING US AND I DID NOT HAVE MY LIGHTS ON. WHEN WE PULLED OVER, MY HUSBAND COULD NOT GET OUT OF HIS SIDE OF THE DOOR. IT WOULD NOT OPEN. WE WERE ON THE FREEWAY, ON A COLD RAINY DAY AND VISIBILITY WAS BAD, AND NOT BEING ABLE TO HAVE LIGHTS, OR DEFROSTER WORK PROPERLY PUT US IN A HAZARDOUS POSITION. LATER I FOUND OUT AS I TOOK IT TO A MECHANIC WAS THAT OUR FUSE BOX WAS NOT WORKING CORRECTLY, AND THE LIGHTS ON THE RIGHT SIDE ONLY AND THE DOOR AND THE DEFROSTER WERE NOT WORKING. IT COST ME $951.09 TO GET THIS REPAIRED ON MY 2008 HONDA ACCORD. I THINK WHEN PEOPLE GET IN A CAR, AND DRIVE IT ESPECIALLY IN HAZARDOUS CONDITIONS, EVERYTHING SHOULD WORK PROPERLY. I DID SEE ON SEVERAL SITES THERE WAS A RECALL ON THIS, BUT I NEVER RECEIVED A RECALL LETTER, OR WAS CONTACTED BY MY DEALER. I WOULD LIKE TO BE REIMBURSED FOR THE $951.09 OH, AND I ALSO WOULD LIKE OTHER HONDA OWNERS TO BE AWARE OF THIS PROBLEM. IT COULD POSSIBLY PREVENT AN ACCIDENT, SOMEONE IN DIRE SITUATION THAT AFFECTS THEIR SAFETY. I STARTED MY CAR UP IN THE MORNING AND WARMED IT UP FOR ABOUT 15 MINUTES THEN AS I GO TO PUT IT IN REVERSE THE BATTERY LIGHT CAME ON I THEN PUT MY CAR IN PARK AND TURNED IT OFF THEN I TURNED IT BACK ON AND THE BATTERY LIGHT WAS STILL ON I DECIDED TO JUST GO BECAUSE I HAVE TO BE AT WORK IN AN HOUR AS I AM DRIVING DOWN I FIVE THE RADIO STOPPED WORKING LIKE THE SIDE OF THE VEHICLE STARTED FLICKERING AND MY HEADLIGHTS TURNED OFF AND I WAS NOW DRIVING DOWN I-5 IN THE DARK. FORTUNATELY I MADE IT TO MY LOCATION PARKED MY CAR AND IT COMPLETELY DIED. I DIDN'T OPEN MY HOOD AND STARTED CHECKING MY BATTERY AND MY ALTERNATOR ETC. I CONFIRMED MY BATTERY WAS FINE AND THAT MY ALTERNATOR HAD FAILED. I THEN NOTICE FLUID WAS LEAKING FROM THE POWER STEERING PUMP TO THE ALTERNATOR. THE CONTACT REPLACED THE FUSE ON HER OWN, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. TAKATA RECALL, WE BOUGHT THIS CAR FOR OVER 16,000 AT GORMLEYS AUTOMOTIVE. AFTER GETTING IT HOME THERE WERE CERTAIN REPAIRS THAT WE NEEDED ASAP. THE CAR WAS DEFINITELY IN A PREVIOUS ACCIDENT AS WE COULD SEE WHEN THE PAINT CHIPPED THAT THERE WAS THE ORIGINAL HONDA WHITE UNDERNEATH. THE CAR HAS 3 RECALLS. LIGHTS COME ON THAT DO NOT MAKE SENSE AND EVEN THOUGH WE DIDN'T RECEIVE A MANUAL, I LOOKED THINGS UP ON THE INTERNET. THE ENGINE BELT RUMBLES, THE SUSPENSION IS WAY OFF, THE LEATHER SEATS AND SIDEARMS HAVE RIPPED BECAUSE THEY WERE REPLACED BY CHEAP PARTS. THE CAR LOAN IS FOR 331.00 MONTHLY AND STILL IS OWED A SIGINIFICANT AMOUNT ON. STEWARD FINANCIAL HARASSES WITH PHONE CALLS IF YOU ARE AN HR LATE ON A PAYMENT. UNACCEPTABLE. I AM DISABLED AND CAN BARELY MAKE ENDS MEET. I DO NOT WANT TO PAY FOR A CAR THAT RUNS LIKE A HOOPDEE WHEN ITS SUPPOSED TO RUN LIKE A HONDA. THEIR SOLUTION WAS ANYTIME I NEEDED OIL I COULD STOP BY ANY HONDA DEALERSHIP & THEY WOULD BE HAPPY TO TOP IT OFF FOR ME. BECAUSE OF THIS OIL PROBLEM & THE SENSOR CONSISTENTLY STAYING ON THE CAR BEGAN TO LOSE POWER & SHOT OUT THE TIMING BELT. MY CAR HAS BEEN IN MY DRIVEWAY SINCE LAST JULY2015. AFTER SENDING HONDA NUMEROUS LETTERS RON FROM HONDA MOTOR CO FINALLY CONTACTED ME. ON THANKSGIVING NIGHT 2012, I WENT SHOPPING AND GOT BACK TO MY PARENTS HOUSE AROUND 11:00PM. I HAD GIFTS AND FOOD IN THE CAR AND THE POWER DOOR LOCKS LOCKED ON ME AUTOMATICALLY WITH ME IN IT. I FINALLY WAS ABLE TO OPEN THE PASSAGE DOOR AND GOT OUT. THE CAR DOOR LOCKED AGAIN AND I WAS NOT ABLE TO GET INTO THE CAR EITHER BY USING THE KEYLESS ENTRY NOR BY MANUALLY TRYING TO UNLOCK IT WITH THE KEY IN THE DOOR LOCK. I HAD TO LET THE FOOD STAY IN THE CAR OVER NIGHT AS WELL AS THE OTHER THINGS I HAD PURCHASED. I AM SO GLAD I DID NOT HAVE MY NIECE WITH ME. THE NEXT DAY, I HAD TO SPEND $60.00 TO GET A LOCKSMITH TO OPEN THE DOOR. BACK IN AUGUST I TOOK MY CAR TO SOUTHEASTERN HONDA DEALER LIKE I ROUTINELY DO TO HAVE MY OIL CHANGED. IT WAS SUGGESTED BY SERVICE REP TO CHANGE MY TRANSMISSION FLUID, WHICH I DID. ON MY WAY HOME FROM WORK ONE NIGHT MY ENGINE LIGHT STARTED FLASHING AND MY CAR WAS DRIVING LIKE IT IS GOING TO SHUT OFF. I TOOK MY CAR TO THE DEALER AND THEY HOOKED IT UP TO A MACHINE AND SAID IT WAS 2 OF MY SPARK PLUGS, IT'S A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THE ACCORDS V6 SO IT'S BEST TO CHANGE ALL OF PLUGS WHICH I AGREED TOO AND THIS WILL SOLVE THE PROBLEM. AS SO AS I WAS ABLE TO I TOOK IT BACK TO SOUTHEASTERN HONDA, THE SAME SERVICE REP SAID THEY HOOK IT UP AND IT WAS THE SPARK PLUGS WHICH WAS CHANGE BACK IN AUGUST AND IT SHOULD NOT BE OCCURRING BECAUSE ALL THE PLUGS WERE CHANGED AND IT'S A DEFECT IN THE ENGINE. HE WILL SPEAK WITH THE GOOD WILL HONDA PERSON BECAUSE THE CAR NEEDS AN ENGINE. HE CALLED BACK A COUPLE OF DAYS LATER AND SAY IT'S THE ENGINE AND I WILL BE REQUIRED TO PAY HALF FOR THE ENGINE. I WAS HAVING PROBLEMS WITH SHUDDERING IN MY CAR. ON JANUARY 21, 2013, I LOGGED A COMPLAINT NUMBER WITH HONDA USA. TODAY I ASKED THE HONDA ADVISOR WHAT DOES MY $2,200.00 "EXTENDED WARRANTY" COVER? HE SAID NOTHING MECHANICAL. THE HONDA DEALER INSPECTED THE ISSUE ONCE AND STATED THAT THERE WAS NO DEFECT, BUT THAT THE CAR OPERATES TO NORMAL SPECIFICATION AND ID COMPARABLE TO ALL 2008 HONDA ACCORD 4 CYLINDER MODELS. THIS ISSUE WAS PREVALENT SINCE I TOOK DELIVERY OF THE NEW CAR IN JULY, 2008. 2.) SINCE TAKING DELIVERY OF THIS VEHICLE AND TO THE PRESENT DATE, THERE IS A WOBBLE/WHEEL SHIMMY IN THE SUSPENSION AT VARIOUS SPEEDS AND DIFFERENT DEGREES OF SEVERITY ON A DAILY BASIS. ON THE FIRST REPAIR ATTEMPT THE DEALER REPLACED SEVERAL TIRES AND PERFORMED A HIGH TECH WHEEL BALANCE USING A HUNTER 9700 ROAD FORCE BALANCING MACHINE. THE PROBLEM WAS NOT CORRECTED. ON THE SECOND VISIT THE DEALER TEST DROVE THE CAR AND STATED THAT THE ISSUE IS A CHARACTERISTIC OF THE VEHICLE AND OTHER HONDA ACCORD 4 CYLINDER MODELS WITH THE SAME ENGINE, TRANSMISSION AND SUSPENSION. CONCLUSION: THIS CAR IS DANGEROUS, EXHIBITS VERY POOR STEERING AND RIDE AS IT WANDERS AND SHIMMIES ALL OVER THE ROAD. CARS LIGHTS DIM AND BLINK EVERYTIME THE COOLING FAN KICKS ON AND OFF,THIS INCLUDES HEADLIGHTS,BRAKE LIGHTS,ALL INTERIOR LIGHTS,A/C FAN DIMS,RADIO GETS SOFTER. THIS IS DANGEROUS TO DRIVE AT NIGHT. PEOPLE THINK YOU ARE FLASHING THEM AND JAMMING ON MY BRAKES. I ALSO HAVE PROBLEMS WITH UPHOLSTRY,SIDE AIR BAGS,RIGHT SEAT TRACK, OUT OF LINE BUMPER AND PEALING PAINT. WHILE AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS AND WITH THE TEMP CONTROL ON, MY HEADLIGHTS DIM / FLICKER ABOUT EVERY 20-30 SECONDS. THE DEALER SAID THIS IS A NORMAL CHARACTERISTIC OF THE CAR AND THERE IS CURRENTLY NOTHING THEY CAN DO ABOUT IT. I HAVE SINCE HEARD OF OTHER PEOPLE HAVING A SIMILAR PROBLEM. THE VEHICLE IS AN 08 HONDA ACCORD 4CYL EX-L. HONDA IS NOT GIVING ME ANY INFORMATION ON THIS AND NOT ADDRESSING THE ISSUE TO MY SATISFACTION.
