Component/System: Engine – piston ring failure; oil control issue related to VCM system. Available for inspection: Yes. My 2009 Honda Accord EX-L V6 (J35Z2 engine with VCM) has developed repeated misfires due to oil entering the combustion chamber, consistent with Honda TSB 13-078. It began around 96,000 miles with cylinder #3 fouling. At 121,000 miles, cylinder #2 also misfired. A Honda dealer confirmed the issue as piston ring failure, and oil loss was measured at ~1.5 quarts per 1,000 miles. The issue causes sudden power loss, rough running, and hesitation, especially during highway driving or acceleration. This creates a serious risk of rear-end collisions or inability to safely merge. The misfire occurs without warning; no warning lamps were active beforehand. Brandfon Honda confirmed the diagnosis in May 2025. Honda acknowledges the defect in TSBs and prior class action litigation (Soto v. Honda), but refuses to assist because my car is outside the 8-year extended warranty window—even though I was never notified of that warranty. I’ve maintained the car carefully and reported the issue to Honda through multiple channels. This is a known defect affecting many 2008–2012 Accords. It compromises driveability, increases oil consumption, and creates safety concerns due to unpredictable engine performance. I’m submitting this to ensure it is recorded as part of a broader pattern that may warrant further investigation.
Rattle noise at start up when engine is cold.
The engine is burning oil, about 2 quarts a month. The oil level consistently runs low when checked and I have to top it off with 1 qt every 2 weeks. There is no leaking under the car so the mechanic said the engine is burning the oil and I would need to replace the whole engine!. The cost of replacing the engine is more than the car is worth. I just bought it a year ago and thought Hondas were more reliable than this. The mechanic said Honda had some issues with the "rings" and tp check this website for a recall. I do not see a recall but if many other similar cars have the same problem there should be a recall that Honda should fix.

The contact owns a 2009 Honda Accord. The contact stated that the vehicle had been experiencing an oil leak. The dealer diagnosed that the valve cover gasket had failed and needed to be replaced. The contact stated that the valve cover gasket was replaced several times; however, the failure persisted. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that a hairline fracture in the engine housing had caused the oil vacuum seal to fracture and the oil to leak. The dealer replaced the engine housing. The contact stated while driving at various speeds, there was an abnormal loud sound coming from underneath the hood, and the vehicle skipped gears and lunged forward. Additionally, the contact stated while driving 70-75 MPH, the contact noticed a burning chemical odor. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The contact pulled over to the side of the road and turned on the hazard lights. The contact then drove to the residence, where the contact opened the hood and noticed that the battery had melted. The dealer was not contacted. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and a case was opened. The failure mileage was approximately 84,000.

Burns oil due to bad piston rings. They are notorious for it and everyone that has a 8th generation Honda Accord (2008-2012) knows this is one of the biggest problems with the vehicle.
The bolt that secures the Serpentine Belt tensioner broke off at the engine block. This disables the power steering and the alternator. This is the third time this has happened. Fortunately for me it has happened when I could stop the car without wrecking it. Without power steering it is all most impossible to steer. I have learned that this is a problem with several Honda models. The tensioner is hydraulic and is secured with one bolt. Honda has issued service bulletins about the problem, but they still break. If mine had gone out at road speed or in traffic I may have been seriously hurt or killed. Some other Honda models come with a spring tensioner, and apparently work OK. I have found a lot of information about this problem on Honda forums. Arlington Car Care, in Upper Arlington, Ohio has been great to me in researching the problem and fixing mine 3 times at their expense. I feel Honda should recall cars with this tensioner and replace it with a spring tensioner that is safe. I wonder if the hydraulic unit is affected by cold weather, making the tension too strong and overpowering the single bolt. The shop has been able to get the broken bolt out of the block so far but it has been problem getting it out. Honda recommends bleeding the tensioner 3 times at installation and oiling the bolt and using a washer between the tensioner and the block. In my opinion tensioner was under designed and needs a fix.
I took my Honda in regarding a rattling noise coming from the engine while driving. It has become more noticeable in the cold and during acceleration. After taking it to the dealer I was told the engine is burning oil. Keep in mind my 2009 Honda Accord has 42k miles on it and is regularly maintained. I was told there is a large amount of carbon build up and it would require a number of this needing repair. Piston Rings, Actuator, Timing Chain, gaskets, seals and the list goes on. The alternative was bring the car in every 3k miles for oil changes because of this issue and monitor the oil consumption. Baffled by how this is possible with carbon build up and using premium fuel. Now I come home and search the internet and find out Honda has an issue with the 2.4 liter Engines in 2009 Honda accords. Apparently a service bulletin was issued but I was never made aware of this issue. Clearly this is a manufacture defect and there should have been a recall. The technician heard the issue and explained the engine would require this major repair or I would be forced to bring the car in for oil changes every 3k miles. The alternative was $6k in repairs total, $2k in parts to replace what they have identified as the issue. There was never any indication that the oil levels were low. And when the vehicle was brought in for oil changes they would note they would change the oil and top it off it was low but never checked why and what the underlying issue was for any lower oil levels. It's really disappointing when you follow all the maintenance protocols to find out they are hiding behind a bigger mechanical issue that can/will have escalating impact on the engine life of my vehicle.
My Honda vehicle’s engine grinds or rattles at cold start-up. Honda dealerships or manufacturer (Honda) are not cooperating and not able to fix it with the reason that my vehicle is out of warranty. I have complained several times since several years however Honda / Honda dealerships have been under playing and rejecting my complaints. This is clearly a manufacturing defect. Please do something about it.

1st the check engine light continues to come on, when it does it makes loud noise and seems to either speed up like idling to fast or loss of power, continues the normal maintained, already replaced the head gaskets and belts it burns through so much oil when we do test on car they say catalytic convertor and then it will stop and work and some thing over and over again, I have 157000 on my car the leather in the car it is forming hard spots on seats front and back I don't have other passengers its like the seats are superglued . I have heard Honda is aware of these problems and with this amt of complaints why is not Honda heard accountable, in park city a fire started due to faulty catalytic convertor I don't want that to happen to me

THE 2009 MAKES MORE NOISE THAN THE 2016. IT SEEMS TO BE AN ISSUE WITH THE VCT ACTUATOR ON THE CAR. THIS IS JUST AN ISSUE AT STATIONARY STARTUP. WHEN THE CAR IS IN MOTION THERE IS NO ISSUES. OCEAN HONDA IS WHERE I TAKE MY HONDA FOR SERVICE. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT HAD BEEN COMING ON OVER A YEAR OR SO. I WAS TOLD MY CAR IS USING TOO MUCH OIL AND NEEDED PISTONS, RINGS AND VALVE REPAIR. THAT COST ALMOST $6000.00. FROM RESEARCH I DISCOVERED THAT THIS IS A PROBLEM WITH THIS ENGINE GENERATION. THE CAR WAS IN MOTION WHEN THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. I WAS TOLD BY OTHER MECHANICS THAT I SHOULD HAVE GOTTEN A NEW ENGINE, IT WOULD HAVE BEEN LESS EXPENSIVE. I FOUND INFORMATION THAT THE NHTSA ISSUED A NOTICE TO ADD YEARS TO THE WARRANTY WHICH WOULD COVER MY SITUATION. AS OF THE REPAIR I HAD OWNED THE CAR FOR 6 YEARS. I NEED THE INFORMATION ON TSB A12-087.
VTC ACTUATOR IS BAD AND REQUIRES REPLACING ALONG WITH PISTON RINGS, ACCORDING TO THE DEALER. THE COST IS $2400.00. WHILE I KNOW THERE WILL BE THINGS THAT HAPPEN TO AGING VEHICLES, THIS IS AN ISSUE FOR A VERY LARGE NUMBER OF 2008-2013 HONDAS.

DEALERSHIP CONFIRMED NO LEAKING OIL, BUT THERE WAS OIL CONSUMPTION. NOW INVOLVED WITH A OIL CONSUMPTION TEST. DEALERSHIP COULDN'T REPLICATE THE RATTLING NOISE. WE NEVER RECEIVED THE NOTICE FROM HONDA ON THE SERVICE BULLETIN ABOUT OIL CONSUMPTION. CURRENTLY 1K MILES INTO THE CONSUMPTION TEST AND WE ARE HALFWAY TO THE LOWER MARK ON THE DIPSTICK. UPDATED THE DEALERSHIP OF THE STATUS AND WAS TOLD NOT TO BRING IT BACK UNTIL IT WAS AT THE LOWER MARK ON THE DIPSTICK. CAR CONTINUES TO HAVE THE RATTLING NOISE, WHICH NOW THE DEALERSHIP IS ADVISING US THAT IS A SEPARATE ISSUE. CURRENTLY STILL COVERED UNDER THE EXTENDED WARRANTY FOR THIS ISSUE, BUT A TEST HAS TO BE COMPLETED BEFORE THE ISSUE IS RESOLVED. RESULT SAID THE CAR CONSUMED 1 QUARTER OF OIL FOR EVERY 1000 MILES (I NEVER SEE ANY WARNING LIGHT WHEN OIL GETS THIS LOW.) HONDA SERVICE CENTER, AFTER TAKING ABOUT A MONTH, SAID THE VEHICLE MEETS THE REQUIREMENT AND THEREFOR DON'T QUALIFY FOR REPAIR. SO LOOKS LIKE I WILL HAVE TO CHECK THE OIL LEVEL EVERY WEEK OR SO, AND ALSO REFILL OIL AT EVERY 1000 MILES INSTEAD OF STANDARD 3000 MILES.

WHILE DRIVING AT ABOUT 55 MPH ON ROUTE I-287 IN MORRISTOWN, NJ, THE CAR BEGAN TO SHAKE BADLY AND THE ENGINE MADE A LOUD RUMBLING NOISE. I GOT THE CAR TO MY LOCAL SERVICE STATION IN MORRISTOWN, WHERE MY MECHANIC TOLD ME THAT ONE OF MY SPARK PLUGS HAD FAILED TO FUNCTION, HAVING BEEN BADLY OIL FOULED. HE REPLACED THE SPARK PLUG AND SAID THE COMPUTER SCANNER SHOWED CODE P0303 MISFIRE CYLINDER #3. HE ALSO NOTED THAT HONDA HAS A SERVICE CAMPAIGN FOR PISTON RING REPLACEMENT INITIATED IN 2013 TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM. I BROUGHT THE CAR TO HONDA ON MONDAY, FEBRUARY 13. THEY REPLACED 3 OF THE 4 SPARK PLUGS IN QUESTION (1 HAVING ALREADY BEEN REPLACED) AND UPDATED THE CAR'S COMPUTER PROGRAM, CALLING THAT STEP ONE IN SOLVING THE PROBLEM. THE HONDA SERVICE MANAGER EXPLAINED THAT HONDA'S PROTOCOL FOR THIS IS TO UPDATE THE SOFTWARE AND REPLACE SPARK PLUGS AND THEN WAIT TO SEE IF IT HAPPENS AGAIN. (I LATER CONFIRMED THIS PROTOCOL BY PHONE WITH HONDA AMERICA.) LACKING THAT, HONDA WILL NOT REIMBURSE THE DEALERSHIP IF THEY DO THE REPAIR, BUT THIS FIX SEEMS TO WORK ABOUT HALF THE TIME. WHEN THE SERVICE CAMPAIGN WAS INITIATED IN 2013, I WAS NOT NOTIFIED. CLEARLY, HONDA RECOGNIZED THAT THERE WAS A PROBLEM OF OIL LEAKING INTO THE CYLINDERS BUT DID NOT ISSUE A RECALL, AS I BELIEVE THEY SHOULD HAVE. IN MY CASE, MY ENGINE FAILED WHILE I WAS DRIVING AT HIGH SPEED ON A MAJOR HIGHWAY. THIS IS NOT SOMETHING I WOULD LIKE TO HAPPEN AGAIN, BUT MY LOCAL MECHANIC SAYS IT DEFINITELY WILL HAPPEN AGAIN, BECAUSE HONDA DID NOT FIX THE PROBLEM. REPLACING SPARK PLUGS IS NO MORE THAN A BAND AID. I'M LEFT WITH A SERIOUS AND EXPENSIVE PROBLEM, AND HONDA'S INTENTION IS TO SKIRT THE REAL ISSUE BY RISKING MY SAFETY IN ORDER TO AVOID ACCOUNTABILITY.

MY 2009 HONDA ACCORD WAS PURCHASED BY OUR LOCAL HONDA DEALER OFF THE LOT BRAND NEW. VEHICLE HAS ALWAYS A GOOD VEHICLE AND NO SERIOUS PROBLEMS. IT WAS IN A MINOR CRASH AND HAD SOME OF THE FRAME READJUSTED. RECENTLY, (WITHIN 6 MONTHS) I HAVE NOTICED THE VEHICLE CONSUMING MORE OIL THAN USUAL. I FOLLOWED UP WITH HONDA TO SEE WHAT I COULD DO WITH THE EXTENDED WARRANTY NOTICE I RECEIVED IN THE MAIL REGARDING THE VEHICLE. THE EXTENDED WARRANTY STATED THAT THE PISTON RINGS MAY BE STICKING MORE THAN USUAL AND THE VEHICLE COULD BE CONSUMING MORE OIL THAN NORMAL. THE WARRANTY STATED IT WAS GOOD FOR UP TO 8 YEARS FROM THE PURCHASE OR 125,000 MILES, WHICHEVER CAME FIRST. AT THE TIME THE HONDA WAS AT 134,000 MILES. HONDA TOLD ME TO TAKE IT TO MY LOCAL HONDA DEALER AND ASK HOW TO START THE PROCESS ON THE PISTON RINGS. THE LOCAL DEALER STATED THEY NEEDED TO START WITH AN OIL CONSUMPTION TEST WITH AN OIL CHANGE, THEN I WOULD HAVE TO COME BACK AFTER 1,000 MILES FOR THEM TO TRACK THE OIL. I BROUGHT THE VEHICLE IN AND WAS DEALT WITH MORE BAD NEWS. THE LOCAL DEALER STATED THAT I COULD NOT START THE OIL CONSUMPTION TEST UNTIL I FIXED TWO OTHER OIL LEAKS THE VEHICLE CURRENTLY HAS. I WAS TOLD THE VEHICLE HAS A VALVE GASKET LEAK WHICH ALSO NEEDED A VALVE ADJUSTMENT AS WELL AS A CRANK SEAL LEAK. THE LOCAL DEALER QUOTED ME THAT THE VALVE GASKET WOULD COST $225, THE VALVE ADJUSTMENT WOULD BE $325, AND THE CRANK SEAL LEAK WOULD BE $245. EVERYWHERE I HAVE HEARD OTHERWISE THE COST OF THESE FIXES WOULD BE MUCH MORE THAN I WAS QUOTED. AFTER RECEIVING THIS NEWS I CALLED HONDA AGAIN TO CREATE A CLAIM. I STILL HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO SPEAK TO MY CASE REPRESENTATIVE ON THE PROBLEM. MY CONCERN IS THAT THE STICKING PISTON RINGS COULD HAVE LEAD TO THE TWO OTHER LEAKS MY VEHICLE IS HAVING. I TOOK IT TO THE LOCAL HONDA DEALERSHIP ON A FRIDAY WAS TOLD THAT THEY COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING. I TOLD THEM THAT I SMELLED ANTI-FREEZE BUT DID NOT SEE ANY LEAKING UNDER THE CAR. THEY ASKED ME TO BRING IT BACK THE NEXT WEEK SO THEY COULD HAVE MORE TIME TO ANALYZE THE COMPLAINT. THEY PROVIDED ME WITH A LONER CAR FOR THREE DAYS. WHEN THEY COMPLETED THE DIAGNOSTICS THEY CALLED ME AND TOLD ME THAT I NEEDED AN ENGINE, I WAS DEVASTATED. WHEN I PURCHASED THE AUTO, IN HAD 22,000 MILES. AT THIS TIME IT HAD ABOUT 80,000. I PURCHASED THE AUTO OCTOBER 2011. MY THOUGHTS WERE, THIS IS UNHEARD OF. I STILL DON'T KNOW WHAT HAPPENED. IT HAS NEVER RUN HOT WITH ME. I HAVE RECORDS OF THE MAINTENANCE. WHEN POSING THAT QUESTION, I WAS TOLD THAT MORE-THAN-LIKELY IT WAS SOILED BEYOND CLEANING. BUT THAT IS MINOR COMPARED TO HAVING TO PURCHASE AN ENGINE FOR AN VEHICLE THAT IS KNOWN TO ENDURE THRU 300,000+ MILES DURING ITS LIFE. SOMEONE IS NOT BEING TRUTHFUL. I NOTIFIED CARL HOGAN THAT I WILL NEVER PURCHASE ANOTHER VEHICLE FROM HIS DEALERSHIP AND I WILL DO MY PART TO ENSURE THAT THOSE I COME IN CONTACT WITH REFRAIN AS WELL, EVEN IF THEY HAVE TO TRAVEL TO ANOTHER CITY OR STATE. THEY HAVE NOW HAD IT FOR TWO MONTHS. AFTER RECEIVING A NEW ENGINE, I INSTANTLY RECEIVED CHECK ENGINE LIGHTS STATING THE CAR WAS RUNNING TOO LEAN. AFTER RETURNING IT FOR ANOTHER WEEK, I RECEIVED IT BACK, BUT THIS TIME, IT WOULD LITERALLY CHOKE OUT AND STALL AT EVERY OTHER RED LIGHT. I RETURNED TO HONDA WITH A CHECK ENGINE LIGHT FOR TOO RICH AND A CAR THAT WOULD NOT MAKE IT MORE THEN A FEW MILES IF STOP SIGNS WERE INVOLVED. HONDA RECENTLY HAD A CLASS ACTION SETTLEMENT FOR 6-CYLINDER VEHICLES FOR EXCESSIVE CONSUMPTION. HOWEVER, BASED ON ONLINE RESEARCH THERE APPEARS TO BE MANY OWNERS OF 4-CYLINDER ENGINES THAT ALSO HAVE SIMILAR PROBLEMS. CLEARLY HONDA KNEW/KNOWS THERE IS A PROBLEM BUT HAS FAILED TO ADDRESS IT. A NOISE WAS COMING FROM THE ENGINE. I HAD IT CHECKED TWICE BY AN OUTSIDE MECHANIC THEN TWICE BY HONDA. THEY ALL AGREED THAT THERE ARE 2 ISSUES. ONE IS PER HONDA'S SERVICE BULLETIN 08-017, THE ROCKER SHAFT BRIDGE HAS EXCESSIVE CLEARANCE WHICH CAUSES THE ROCKER TO ROTATE AND MAKE NOISE. THE SECOND, AND MOST IMPORTANT, IS AN OIL CONSUMPTION ISSUE, OF WHICH HONDA IS WELL AWARE OF A PROBLEM. I CURRENTLY GET 755 MILES PER QUART. I WENT TO INDEPENDENCE HONDA AND ASKED AS TO WHY BETWEEN MAINTENANCE, I WAS HAVING TO ADD OIL. I WAS TOLD TO BRING IT BACK WHEN IT WAS NEEDED, AND HE WOULD DOCUMENT IT. COME TO FIND OUT, THEY WERE DOING AN OIL CONSUMPTION TEST. INDEPENDENCE HONDA CLOSED AND IS NOW LEGENDS HONDA. HE TOLD ME TO BRING IT IN AND THEY WOULD FIX IT. GAVE ME A LOANER CAR. CALLED ME BACK AND SAID THEY WOULD HAVE TO DO A OIL CONSUMPTION TEST. THEY CLAIM THEY ONLY PUT IN ABOUT A QUART PER 1000 MILES. REGARDLESS OF WHAT MY DIP STICK SHOWS. THE SAFETY BULLETIN DESCRIBES THE VARIABLE VALVE TIMING CONTROL (VTC) ACTUATOR AS BEING, "DEFECTIVE". ADDITIONAL INTERNET SEARCH IDENTIFIED THAT THE GRINDING NOISE WAS COMMON WITH THE 2009 ACCORD. I SPOKE WITH MY DEALER, HUGH WHITE HONDA, COLUMBUS, OHIO. THE DEALERSHIP AGREED WITH MY DIAGNOSIS AND NOTED THAT HONDA WAS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM, BUT HAD NOT ISSUED A RECALL ON THE VTC ACTUATOR. FURTHER, THE DEALER NOTED THAT HONDA ISSUED A 2011 SOFTWARE UPDATE ON THE 2009 ACCORD TO ADDRESS COMPLAINTS OF EXCESSIVE OIL CONSUMPTION. A SEPTEMBER 2011 NOTICE FROM HONDA IS TITLED "PRODUCT UPDATE: SOFTWARE UPDATE TO IMPROVE FUEL-INJECTOR AND VTC TIMING" THE NOTICE STATES THAT THE FUEL INJECTOR TIMING AND VTC TIMING AT COLD START MAY CREATE DEPOSITS ON THE OIL CONTROL RINGS THAT COULD CONTRIBUTE TO INCREASED OIL CONSUMPTION." THE DEALERSHIP CONFIRMED THAT MY CAR HAD THE SOFTWARE UPDATE. THE DEALER ARGUES THAT THE UPDATE IS SEPARATE FROM THE CURRENT GRINDING NOISE AND THAT THE VTC ACTUATOR HAS FAILED. THE DEALERSHIP COULD NOT EXPLAIN WHY MY GRINDING NOISE APPEARS TO HAVE STARTED AFTER THE 2011 SOFTWARE UPDATE WAS COMPLETED. BASED ON THE FOREGOING, I AM FORWARDING THIS COMPLAINT. I HAVE READ SEVERAL DIFFERENT REASONS FOR THE PROBLEM AT HAND BUT, THE CAR IS CONSUMING FAR MORE OIL THAN IT SHOULD. FROM THE CONSUMING OF THE OIL IT IS ALSO CAUSING SPARK PLUGS TO FOUL. THERE ARE TONS OF FORUMS ONLINE WITH PEOPLE THAT HAVE THE SAME COMPLAINT AS WELL AS A CLASS ACTION LAW SUIT THAT WAS FILED SOMETIME IN 2012. FROM EVERYTHING I HAVE READ FROM RESEARCHING THE PROBLEM, HONDA EITHER DENIES THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THE VEHICLE, SUPPOSEDLY INSTALLS SOME COMPUTER UPGRADE THAT DOESN'T FIX THE PROBLEM, TELLS PEOPLE THEIR ENGINE NEEDS TO BE REBUILT, IS TOLD THEY NEED TO RUN A DIFFERENT TYPE OF OIL, OR LIKE MYSELF WAS TOLD THAT IT IS COMPLETELY NORMAL FOR THESE ENGINES TO CONSUME 1 QUART OF OIL PER 1000 MILES DRIVEN. I NOTICED OIL LIGHT GLOWING. CHECKED OIL LEVEL, NOTHING SHOWED ON DIP STICK. UNDER 3000 MILES SINCE LAST OIL CHECK. TOOK TO DEALER AND COMPLAINED. CHECKED FOR OIL LEAKS-NONE. FLASHED ENGINE MANAGEMENT WITH UPGRADE SAID SERVICE BULLETIN FROM HONDA SHOULD FIX ISSUE. KEPT CHECKING OIL LEVELS AT EACH GAS FILL UP. NOTICED A QUART OF OIL USED AROUND EVERY THOUSAND MILES OF MIXED DRIVING. BY 50,000 THAT HAD DROPPED TO USING A QUART OF OIL EVERY 600 MILES AND BY 56,000 MILES A QUART OF OIL EVERY 500 MILES. ENGINE RAN ROUGH ALL THE TIME AND BLEW SMOKE. NO VISIBLE ENGINE LEAKS FROM DYE TEST. ENGINE OIL WOULD TURN BLACK WITHIN 1000 MILES AFTER AN OIL CHANGE AT DEALER. DEALER INSTIGATED OIL CONSUMPTION TEST EVERY 1000 MILES. USED 2.5 QUARTS OF OIL. AT 58,000 MILES DEALER RECEIVED PERMISSION TO REPLACE MOTOR WITH NEW SHORT BLOCK FROM HONDA AND REMANUFACTURE HEADS WITH ALL NEW PARTS. THIS WAS AFTER DEALER TORE DOWN THE MOTOR AND CONFIRMED IT WAS SHOT. SCORED BORE AND DESTROYED RINGS, AND BLACK OIL SLUDGE IN MOTOR. ENGINE OIL HAD BEEN REPLACED AT DEALER WITHIN HONDA RECOMMENDED INTERVALS. NEVER HEARD OF A HONDA MOTOR FAILING AT 58,000 MILES IN MY LIFE. NEW MOTOR RUNS GREAT AND CAR IS LIKE NEW AGAIN. I'M GLAD THE ENGINE FAILED WITHIN THE 60,000 DRIVETRAIN WARRANTY. IT WOULD HAVE BEEN THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS TO REPLACE IF HONDA DID NOT COME THROUGH WITH A NEW ENGINE. READING ON THE INTERNET THAT THIS IS AN ALL TO COMMON PROBLEM WITH 2008, 2009 4CYL ENGINES. I AM TO RETURN THE CAR TO THE HONDA DEALERSHIP TO CHECK THE OIL LEVEL AT 1,000 MILES INTERVALS FOR AN UNSPECIFIED PERIOD OF TIME.
