The contact owns a 2009 Honda Accord. The contact stated that the vehicle had been taken for an alignment. While performing the alignment, the parking brake activated independently. After the service was completed, the contact disengaged the parking brake and noticed that the vehicle seemed a bit more difficult than normal to steer. The contact pulled over, stopped, and became aware that the rear rotors were overheated and turning red. The contact stated that the parking brake was still activated even though the instrument panel had indicated that the parking brake was disengaged. The contact turned off the vehicle until the vehicle had cooled off and then returned home with the vehicle. Once the contact was home and the vehicle was parked, the contact noticed that the parking brake was still engaged even after disengaging the parking brake. The contact stated that the brakes were still overheated. The contact also noticed that the brake pads had started to fracture from the overheating. There were no warning lights illuminated. The contact had not taken the vehicle to the dealer. The vehicle had not been diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 128,000.

VEHICLE HAS BEEN CONSUMING OIL SINCE PURCHASED WITH 9,500 MILES. OIL CONSUMPTION HAS CONTRIBUTED TO FOULED SPARK PLUGS. FOULED SPARK PLUGS TRIGGERED "CYLINDER #3 MISFIRE" CODE AND EXTREMELY POOR PERFORMANCE AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. TWO DIFFERENT OCCASIONS THE CAR EXPERIENCED DIFFERENT CYLINDER MISFIRE ISSUES. HONDA DEALER PERFORMED ENGINE COMPUTER SOFTWARE UPDATES ON TWO DIFFERENT OCCASIONS THAT DID NOT REMEDY THE OIL CONSUMPTION ISSUE. NO WARNING LIGHTS TO INDICATE THAT THE ENGINE WAS 3 QUARTS LOW ON OIL. IF THE CONSUMER IS NOT AWARE THAT THE VEHICLE IS USING OIL, THERE IS POTENTIAL FOR THE ENGINE TO SEIZE CAUSING COSTLY REPAIRS OR TO LOSE POWER IN A DANGEROUS SITUATION. DEALER IS NOW PERFORMING HONDA OIL CONSUMPTION TEST. ACCORDING TO HONDA, CONSUMING 1 QUART OF OIL IN 1,000 MILES IS NORMAL AND ACCEPTABLE. THIS BURNED OIL IS BEING RELEASED INTO THE ENVIRONMENT AS EVIDENCED BY THE BLACK CARBON ON THE TAIL PIPES. IT IS HARD TO BELIEVE THAT A LEADING CAR MANUFACTURER WOULD DEEM OIL CONSUMPTION IN A BRAND NEW VEHICLE AS NORMAL OR ACCEPTABLE. THIS IS THE FIRST VEHICLE OUT OF 12 THAT I HAVE EVER OWNED THAT CONSUMED OIL. EVEN VEHICLES WITH OVER 200,000 MILES DID NOT CONSUME OIL. I PURCHASED A HONDA SO THAT I DID NOT HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT RELIABILITY OR BREAK DOWNS FOR MANY YEARS. NOW I HAVE TO WORRY WITH CHECKING THE OIL EVERY WEEK AS TO NOT GET LOW OR RUN OUT. SAME VEHICLE HAS ALSO HAD PREMATURE REAR BRAKE PAD WEAR AND HAD TO BE REPLACED AT 60,000 MILES. COMPLAINT HAS BEEN FILED WITH AMERICAN HONDA. CLASS ACTION LAWSUITS HAVE BEEN FILED AGAINST HONDA OVER THE PREMATURE REAR BRAKE PAD WEAR AND THE OIL CONSUMPTION ISSUES.

AFTER MUCH COMPLAINING (BECAUSE BRAKES AREN'T USUALLY A WARRANTY ITEM, AND THIS WAS PRIOR TO THE CLASS ACTION SETTLEMENT) THEY DID REPAIR AND REPLACE THEM FOR FREE. 1 YEAR LATER I BEGAN EXPERIENCING A SHIMMY WHEN BRAKING ON THE FREEWAY OR ESPECIALLY ON A HILL, AND WAS TOLD THEN THAT THE FRONT ROTORS ARE NOW MAGICALLY "WARPED". I DEALT WITH IT FOR A WHILE, BUT THEN RECENTLY BEGAN HEARING THE METAL ON METAL SOUND OF THE REAR PADS GOING OUT AGAIN. SURE ENOUGH, UPON TAKING TO THE DEALER WE PURCHASED THE VEHICLE FROM, IT DOES IN FACT NOW NEED REAR PADS AGAIN AT 46K MILES, AS WELL AS FRONT ROTOR RESURFACING....WHICH NOW I'M ALSO TOLD YOU CAN'T USE THE FRONT PADS ANYMORE WHEN YOU RESURFACE THE ROTORS. SO ESSENTIALLY, I'M REPLACING BOTH FRONT AND REAR BRAKES(REAR BRAKES FOR THE SECOND TIME), AND RESURFACING FOR THE SECOND TIME AT ONLY 46K MILES. NATURALLY, THE HONDA SERVICE DEPARTMENT PEOPLE DON'T CARE AND WON'T COVER ANYTHING UNDER WARRANTY EVEN THOUGH THIS IS CLEARLY A WELL KNOWN HONDA DEFECT. THE DEALER REPORTED THAT THE REAR BRAKES WERE WORN AND THE PADS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED EVEN THOUGH THERE IS ONLY 12,901 MILES OF USE ON THE CAR. ACCORDING TO THE DEALER, THIS HAS BEEN A COMMON PROBLEM WITH 2008 AND 2009 MODEL ACCORDS BECAUSE THE REAR BRAKES WERE REDUCED IN SIZE EVEN THOUGH MORE OF THE CAR'S BRAKING POWER WAS SHIFTED TO THE REAR AXLE. THE DEALER STATED THAT MANY RECENT HONDA ACCORDS WERE NEEDING REAR BRAKE PADS REPLACED WITHIN ONE YEAR AND IN AS FEW AS 7000 MILES OF USE. AS A "GOODWILL" GESTURE, THE DEALER AGREED TO REPLACE THE BRAKES FOR FREE. I THEN CONTACTED HONDA'S CORPORATE CUSTOMER SERVICE CENTER IN TORRANCE CALIFORNIA AND WAS INFORMED THAT HONDA IS AWARE OF THIS ISSUE, BUT DOES NOT CONSIDER IT A SAFETY MATTER AND HAS NOT ISSUED A SERVICE BULLETIN REGARDING THIS ISSUE. I BELIEVE THE MATTER IS A SAFETY ISSUE AS FEW DRIVERS WOULD ASSUME THAT THEIR REAR BRAKES MIGHT NEED TO BE REPLACED ANNUALLY OR AFTER AS FEW AS 10,000 MILES OF USE OR LESS. I PURCHASED A BRAND NEW 2009 ACCORD EX-L V6 COUPE IN SEPTEMBER 08. I ONLY HAVE ABOUT 19K MILES AND THE DEALERSHIP SAYS THE REAR BRAKES ARE AT 0% WHILE THE FRONT BRAKES ARE AT 90%. THIS IS A FRONT WHEEL DRIVE VEHICLE AND THERE IS NO REASON THE REAR BRAKES SHOULD BE COMPLETELY GONE. *TR

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 HONDA ACCORD. THE CONTACT PURCHASED THE VEHICLE ON APRIL 1, 2009. SHE HEARD A SQUEAKING SOUND WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED. THE DEALER STATED THAT THIS WAS A COMMON ISSUE WITH HER MAKE AND MODEL VEHICLE. THE MANUFACTURER ADVISED THE CONTACT TO TAKE THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE DEALER. A MECHANIC TEST DROVE THE VEHICLE, BUT FOUND NO FAILURES OTHER THAN THE SQUEAKING BRAKES. THE CONTACT BELIEVES THAT THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE. THE DEALER ADVISED HER TO WAIT UNTIL HONDA ISSUED A RECALL. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 200 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 2,000.

2008 HONDA BOUGHT NEW AFTER 28,000 MILES HONDALAND SAID I NEEDED BACK BRAKES, EVERYONE KNOWS THE FRONT ALWAYS GO OUT FIRST AND I CALLED THE HONDA CORP. AND AFTER ALL THE FRUSTRATION THEY INSISTED I PAY BY CASH OR CERTIFIED CHECK, MY WIFE WAS ON THE WAY TO PICK UP THE CAR WHEN THEY CALL ME STATING THIS. WHEN SHE GOT TO HONDALAND THEY INSISTED THAT SHE HAVE THEM SHUTTLE HER TO OUR BANK TO GET CASH, THIS IS TOTALLY RIDICULES AND I WANT SOMETHING DONE ABOUT THIS. THE HONDA CORP. CALLED THE DEALERSHIP AND SAID I MUST PAY CASH, I WANTED TO PUT IT ON MY CREDIT CARD SO I WOULDN'T BE SHORT ON CASH THIS MONTH. I AM APPALLED AT THERE ACTIONS AND I EXPECT A CASH REFUND AND I WANT HONDA TO PAY FOR THIS BRAKE JOB THAT NEVER SHOULD HAVE BEEN NEEDED, I WENT ON THE INTERNET AND THERE HAVE BEEN OVER 200 COMPLAINTS, THE WORST WAS ONLY 5,000 MILES AND THE BACK BRAKES WERE SHOT. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER, BUT THEY COULD NOT DUPLICATE OR REMEDY THE FAILURE. UPON FURTHER INSPECTION, THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT WATER WOULD FREEZE INSIDE THE WHEEL RIMS IN WET, FREEZING CONDITIONS. THE FAILURE CAUSED THE ROTORS TO RUST AND THE BRAKING SYSTEM NOT TO PERFORM AT ITS FULL POTENTIAL. THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER AND WAS INFORMED THAT NO COMPENSATION WOULD BE PROVIDED BECAUSE THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN A RECALL. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
