The transmission on my 2015 Honda Accord failed and I was stranded on the side of the road. The engine started to accelerate on its own and soon after the gas peddle was not working and I was forced to pull over. My safety was put at risk because I had to pull over on the highway late at night and was stranded. The transmission failed and the issue code is P1890. I found details on this known issue here: https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/2016/MC-10084981-2280.pdf There is no recall but it is a known issue, and I believe it is dangerous for Honda to allow these cars to remain on the road without new transmissions. According to the link I posted before, the only fix is a new transmission. I believe this should be issued as a recall so other Accord owners (2014-2016 years) do not face the same problem as I did. This problem was fix in 2017. There was no physical damage done to the car and the car received routine maintenance. T
Faulty starter which went and was replaced at least twice by previous owner. Upon 2nd replacement of starter by me, the car still would not run. It was determined by my mechanic that this was a bigger issue and probably the torque converter had been ruined by the starter as the wheel was missing and had broken teeth due to impact of the starter. Honda dealership/maintenance confirmed this and the torque converter and starter needed to be replaced. This cost me $4500, not to mention the previous starters and labor. Honda confirmed after market starters cause damage to the torque wheel/converter. Many mechanics use aftermarket parts, as they are more affordable for the consumer. Honda should have specific notes on this, as to not cause damage to the vehicle. Honda would not cover the costs, as they said my car was no longer under warranty at 155,000 miles. However the starter had been replaced before 100,000 another time.
1) Auto transmission. 2) Subject to failure at any speed. 3) Dealer confirmed problem. 4) Inspected by certified technician at the dealership(see report) 5) There are no warning or trouble codes, confirmed by technician report, it is a random event and can occur anytime the vehicle is in motion.
Door locks will stop working randomly. Some doors will not lock or unlock. I took to metro honda once to get it fixed and again it is happening. The driver side back door never locks or unlocks. The other back door started doing the same this past week. And the passenger door wouldn’t lock or unlock but since taking it to metro it has worked. This will start happening randomly. Also, i have been having problems with the starter. I got it replaced one a couple months ago from a mechanic and again it will not turn on on the first try.
The contact owns a 2015 Honda Accord. The contact stated while driving 70 MPH, the vehicle lost motive power. The vehicle intermittently stalled, and the contact stated that after waiting several minutes for the engine to cool down, the vehicle returned to normal operation; however, the vehicle was shuddering. No warning light was illuminated; however, the "VSC System Failure" message was displayed. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic to be diagnosed and the contact was informed that the throttle control system needed to be replaced. The independent mechanic made the contact aware of NHTSA Campaign Numbers: 23V858000 (Fuel System, Gasoline) and 20V769000 (Power Train); however, the VIN was not included. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.
My car has been reliable other than standard maintenance; oil changes, brake pad changes, etc. On Friday, April 12 2024, I was driving down the highway at 60-70 mph when the engine felt like it lost power for half a second and I saw the RPMs rev up and then drop down when this "skipping" occurred. It happened several times and made me feel very unsafe in a high speed situation if I suddenly lost all engine power. I drove straight to my mechanic - they did not experience the skipping at low speeds on a test drive, but they recommended a transmission fluid flush. On draining the fluid, they said it was clean but had more metallic debris than would be expected for a usual transmission service. I drove the car over the weekend and the same engine loss of power was evident, but happened infrequently. Then on Monday, April 15 2024, the engine was losing power on the highway again and on the dash, a "D3" code was blinking. I went back to the mechanic, at low speeds, where they determined the transmission needs to be replaced - upon speaking with their Honda contact, this is becoming a known problem where transmissions are needing replacement in the 60-90k mile range. My car is at about 78k miles, we did have the transmission serviced at 34k miles and then not again until Friday the 12th - however there were no warning signs/sounds or error codes until the power loss on the highway and finally, the error code on Monday. The car is currently at the repair garage awaiting the expensive, replacement transmission and is available for further inspection.
Initially it started as ignition starter issues, now there seems to be what may be concluded as transmission issues. After doing research i see Hondas history of bad transmissions. Extremely low acceleration causes dangerous lane switching or merging with traffic, also the fear of it stalling and no longer working as I drive.
The contact owns a 2015 Honda Accord. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the transmission failed to shift gear as needed. Additionally, the contact stated that while the accelerator pedal was depressed, the vehicle failed to accelerate as designed. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or dealer. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 23,088. The VIN was not available.

I Was driving my vehicle on, standing on the Expressway heading east. The roads were snow and sleek. Out of nowhere. My vehicle start to lose power. And suddenly stopped. I was stuck in the middle of the highway, very scared and feared for my life and I feared for the other peoples lives and their vehicles and hoping no collision occurs. Luckily. I was able to avoid the collision. And a tow truck came to tow my car to the Honda dealership. I had a recall for the drive shaft. A corroded drive shaft broke on which the vehicle was unmovable. My vehicle also roll away when I shifted to parked and I had to set the parking brake. This almost cost me the risk of a crash or injury without prior warning. And the Honda dealership did not correct the problem. I had to tow The vehicle To my mechanic shop and the next following day my mechanic expected that my drive shaft was not good. Mechanic had to order The drive actual shaft And get it replaced and fixed.
I can always feel that the transmission is not responsive. Every now and then when I back up or the car moves into the first gear after I put it in the drive mode it takes awhile before it really moves. It staggers and stalls before the acceleration finally kicks in. The scariest incident was when I needed to accelerate onto the highway on the entry ramp and the car was stalling and refusing to increase torque and speed even though the acceleration pedal was all the way floored. It almost caused a major crash from the rear. Every Honda dealer I go to cannot seem to replicate the issue I keep experiencing and dismiss my account as if it is in my head. I wish someone addresses this important warning urgently before there is a catastrophic car incident involving our lives. Looking forward to a prompt resolution to a recurring issue. My guess is that there was a transmission software update from the dealership when I first bought the car which has caused this recurring transmission issue which Honda refuses to acknowledge.
Everything in the car shuts off and on all of a sudden; this includes the screen the air all the lights and the car kind of jerks. it goes back almost immediately but I'm afraid it will do this on the freeway. It has done this at least 4 times in the last month.
The shucks began shuddering at highway speeds and upon stopping within 1 mile of first incident the vehicle was unable to move under its own power. Further inspection of the car by the Honda dealership determined the transmission failed.
Driving at Interstate speeds, I had the engine suddenly **THUNK** and lose power. I limped it to the side of the road to get out of traffic. I went to investigate and the vehicle would not even idle. It just shut off After having it towed back to local service company, looked at, and the dealership I bought it at to look at, I am told the main bearing failed on the connecting rod. The thunks I hear is the rod spinning in there, shearing off metal shavings that are now all over inside the engine bay. Honda has a TSB out for the car, for this exact issue, but my VIN number somehow doesn't fit in their window. Component that failed - Main bearing on the Connecting Rod Safety of myself and others - Gave out while driving highway speeds, which caused the car to lose power to keep it at highway speeds. Had to limp it to the shoulder Reproduction of problem - Yes, at an independent service center and a dealership service center Component inspected - not by any of the listed people, just the service centers Warning lamps, messages, symptoms - None whatsoever I have amazon receipts of items purchased for all at home maintenance done on the vehicle since it was bought new. I do not have a scanner handy for the service center documentation and receipts
Transmission is not shifting. Also, when backing up car may jump and then stall.

2015 HONDA ACCORD V6 BOUGHT AS NEW NOW WITH 72K MILES HAS STARTER PROBLEM. CAR WILL HAVE A WINDING/GRINDING NOISE WHEN ATTEMPTING TO START (FROM OFF AND STATIONARY POSITION) BUT WILL NOT START. WHEN INSPECTING PROBLEM, IT WAS FOUND THAT THE FLYWHEEL HAS BEEN DAMAGED LIKELY DUE TO MISALIGNMENT OF TORQUE CONVERTER RING GEAR OR BAD STARTER MOTOR. CALLED TO HONDA DEALERSHIP AND THEY SAID THE COMPONENTS ARE NOT COVERED BY WARRANTIES. SERVICE CAMPAIGN ONLINE WAS FOUND WITH REFERENCE TSB NO. 16-002 ISSUED FEBRUARY 5, 2016. BUYER WAS NOT AWARE OF SUCH PROBLEMS SINCE DATE OF PURCHASE AS HONDA NEVER ISSUED A RECALL OR MAILED OUT NOTIFICATION TO THE BUYER. MANY HAVE REPORTED THE ISSUE ONLINE. BUYER WAS NEVER MADE AWARE OF SERVICE BULLETIN VIA PAPER OR ELECTONIC MAIL, NO RECALL WAS MADE, CAR IS NOW APPARENTLY NO LONGER COVERED UNDER WARRANTY, AND REQUIRING MULTIPLE PARTS REPAIRS.

STICKING PISTON RINGS RESULTING IN HIGH ENGINE OIL CONSUMPTION: VEHICLE MAINTAINED BY DEALER INCLUDING OIL CHANGES. VEHICLE HAS NO OIL IN RESERVOIR BETWEEN OIL CHANGES. VEHICLE BURNS OIL. PISTON RINGS STICK AND IT CAUSES OIL TO BURN EXCESSIVELY. THERE ARE MULTIPLE CAMPAIGNS THAT HONDA KNOWS ABOUT. THEY KNEW ABOUT TSB 17-089 AND STILL GAVE MY VEHICLE A CERTIFIED PRE-OWNED STATUS WITHOUT FIXING THE ENGINE PROBLEM FIRST. IT IS DANGEROUS TO DRIVE A VEHICLE WITH NO OIL IN IT!

AT ~92,500 MILES, THIS CAR HAS SUDDENLY BEGUN IN THE PAST WEEK TO SHUT OFF WHILE ACCELERATING/DRIVING (IN MOTION) ON SURFACE STREETS AND FREEWAYS. THE MULTIFUNCTION SCREEN AND/OR SOUND SYSTEM AND/OR DASH/ENGINE/ACCELERATION WILL SHUT OFF WITHOUT WARNING WHILE I AM OPERATING THE VEHICLE IN TRAFFIC ANYWHERE FROM 15-65 MPH. WHEN IT HAS HAPPENED, THE SYSTEM HAS QUICKLY REBOOTED AND ALLOWED ME TO RESUME DRIVING. IT FEELS VERY UNSAFE AND UNPREDICTABLE.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2015 HONDA ACCORD. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE FAILED TO START. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO HENNESSY HONDA OF WOODSTOCK (3701, 8931 GA-92, WOODSTOCK, GA 30189, (770) 924-9000) WHERE THE STARTER WAS REPLACED, BUT FAILED TO REMEDY THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS CURRENTLY BEING TOWED TO THE SAME DEALER FOR THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.
WE HAVE HAD INTERMITTENT PROBLEMS WHERE THE CAR WILL NOT START. IT JUST MAKES A CLICKING SOUND. WE CAN JUMP START IT AND DRIVE IT AROUND AND SOMETIMES THE PROBLEM GOES AWAY FOR MONTHS AT A TIME. THEN RANDOMLY IT WILL NOT START AGAIN. I HAVE HAD THE BATTERY AND CHARGING SYSTEM CHECKED MULTIPLE TIMES BY AUTOZONE, ADVANCE AUTO, O'REILLY, AND WALMART SERVICE CENTER. THE BATTERY AND CHARGING SYSTEM ALWAYS REPORTS AS FINE. I RECENTLY HAD THE OIL CHANGED AT WALMART AND THE SERVICE TECHNICIAN COULD NOT GET IT TO START. HE JUMPED IT AND DROVE AROUND TO THE OTHER SIDE OF THE BAY TO CHECK THE BATTERY AND IT HAPPENED AGAIN. HE REMOVED THE CABLES AND CLEANED THE TERMINALS AND SPRAYED ON BATTERY POST PROTECTANT AND THEN JUMPED IT AGAIN. I DROVE HOME AND HAD NOT HAD ANY PROBLEMS FOR OVER A MONTH AND NOW IT HAS HAPPENED AGAIN. THIS ALL STARTED AFTER HAVING THE FACTORY RECALL BATTERY MANAGEMENT SENSOR REPLACED IN LATE 2017. THIS IS AT LEAST THE EIGHT TIME OVER THE PAST 1+ YEARS. I WAS TOLD BY AT LEAST ONE AUTOZONE EMPLOYEE THAT THEY HAVE SEEN MANY HONDA VEHICLES WITH A SIMILAR PROBLEM BECAUSE THE BATTERY SENSOR OR MAIN FUSE BLOCK WILL INTERMITTENTLY BLOCK ANY VOLTAGE COMING FROM THE BATTERY INTO THE STARTING SYSTEM. IT IS RANDOM AND WILL SOMETIMES EVEN PREVENT A JUMP START UNLESS YOU TAP ON THE TOP OF THE SENSOR. AND THEN IT STARTS FINE. MY LOCAL HONDA DEALERSHIP CLAIMS THERE IS NO SUCH PROBLEM AND REFUSED TO CALL ME BACK TO HAVE THE VEHICLE CHECKED WHILE STILL UNDER WARRANTY. I AM NOW OUT OF WARRANTY DUE TO THE DATE OF PURCHASE AND NOT MILEAGE AND ALL THEY WILL SAY IS THAT IT SOUNDS LIKE MY STARTER IS BAD AND NEEDS TO BE REPLACED WHICH WILL COST OVER $700 NOW THAT I AM OUT OF WARRANTY.

WHEN STARTING CAR INITIALLY IN THE MORNINGS AND DRIVING CAR IN REVERSE WITH ONLY BRAKING AND NOT APPLYING ANY GAS, AFTER THE FIRST 10 FEET IN REVERSE THE ENGINE WILL REV UP BY ITSELF AND THEN STABILIZE, OR ENGINE WILL GULP AIR WITH ENGINE JERKING, OR ENGINE WILL REV UP VERY HIGH WITH THE FINAL LAST SOUND OF CLASHING METAL BETWEEN THE ENGINE/TRANSMISSION AND THE ENGINE DYING ON THE SPOT. THESE PROBLEMS ONLY OCCUR WITH THE INITIAL STARTING OF THE CAR AND ONLY IN REVERSE. THE CAR FUNCTIONS NORMALLY AFTER THE EVENTS DESCRIBED ABOVE. THE CAR IS ALWAYS GARAGED. THE ENGINE BEHAVIOR DESCRIBED IS INTERMITTENT AND UNPREDICATABLE. CLASHING METAL AND STOPPING OF ENGINE LAST OCCURRED JULY 26, 2017.

ON MARCH 20, 2015, I LEASED A HONDA ACCORD FOR 3 YEARS FROM THE HONDA OF MENTOR AUTOMOBILE DEALERSHIP. IMMEDIATELY AFTER TAKING POSSESSION OF THE CAR, I NOTICED THE CAR HAD A VERY SIGNIFICANT VIBRATION PROBLEM. AFTER DRIVING THE CAR FOR A FEW DAYS, I TOOK IT BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP AND COMPLAINED ABOUT THE VIBRATION. THE SERVICE PERSONNEL I COMPLAINED TO ACTED LIKE THE CAR HAD NO VIBRATION PROBLEM AT ALL --- INTIMATING I WAS IMAGINING THINGS. AFTER DRIVING THE CAR A FEW DAYS MORE, I NOTICED THAT WHEN STOPPING AT A STOP LIGHT AND SHIFTING THE TRANSMISSION FROM DRIVE TO NEUTRAL, THE VIBRATION LESSENED CONSIDERABLY. MY CAR CAME EQUIPPED WITH A "CONTINUOUSLY VARIABLE TRANSMISSION (CVT)", SO I ASSUME THE VIBRATION IS MOST LIKELY RELATED TO THE TRANSMISSION (I HAVE NEVER BEEN AN AUTO MECHANIC). I HAVE HAD THE CAR FOR 22 MONTHS NOW AND, ALTHOUGH THE VIBRATION PROBLEM HAS LESSENED SOMEWHAT, IT IS CAUSING ME CONSIDERABLE CONSTERNATION BECAUSE I HAVE DECIDED TO PURCHASE THE CAR OUTRIGHT WHEN MY 3-YEAR-LEASE EXPIRES. I AM WORRIED THAT SHORTLY AFTER I PURCHASE THE CAR OUTRIGHT I WILL BE FACED WITH A HORRENDOUS BILL TO REPAIR/REPLACE THE CVT OR WHATEVER IT IS THAT IS CAUSING THE VIBRATION. QUESTION: IS THE NHTSA MAINTAINING A LOG OF COMPLAINTS REGARDING HONDA"S "VIBRATION COMPLAINTS" SIMILAR TO MINE? I AM 82 AND WITH MY MEAGER PENSION I CERTAINLY DO NOT WANT TO BE HIT WITH A HORRENDOUS REPAIR BILL IF THE VIBRATION PROBLEM IS DUE TO THE HONDA'S INCOMPETENCE. *TR

PAGE 1 OF 2 - I PURCHASED MY 2015 HONDA ACCORD COUPE EX-L WITH 2.4L CVT IN JUNE OF 2015 NEW WITH MAYBE 5 MILES ON THE ODOMETER. I STARTED HAVING ISSUES JUST MONTHS AFTER PURCHASING THE VEHICLE FROM BRANDON HONDA. THE FIRST INCIDENT OCCURRED WHEN PULLING OUT OF MY OFFICE COMPLEX ONTO A BUSY HIGHWAY WHEN THE CAR DECIDED TO JUST SHUT OFF CAUSING THE STEERING COLUMN TO ALSO SEIZE WHILE THE ODOMETER FLASHED "FCW FAILURE" ALONG WITH SEVERAL OTHER INSTRUMENT PANEL LIGHTS ON STEADY. SINCE THAT OCCURRENCE IT SEEMS AS IF I'VE HAD NOTHING BUT PROBLEMS WITH THE VEHICLE. I HAVE ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS TAKEN THE VEHICLE IN FOR REPEATED TRANSMISSION/FRONT END ISSUES ' SUCH AS JERKING BETWEEN RPMS, DOWN 'SHIFTING' FOR NO REASON CAUSING RPMS TO JUST DROP INSTEAD OF HOLDING WHEN RELEASING MY FOOT FROM THE ACCELERATOR AND WHILE TRAVELING AT HIGHWAY/INTERSTATE SPEEDS OF 55+ MPH, ETC. THE LAST 3 TIMES INCLUDED AN ADDITIONAL ISSUE WHERE THE GEARSHIFT WOULD GO FROM (D) DRIVE AND INTO (R) REVERSE WHILE CONTINUING TO GO IN A FORWARD MOTION WITH BACK UP CAMERA DISPLAYING ON DASH SCREEN AND (R) DISPLAYING ON THE ODOMETER WHERE THE GEAR IS DISPLAYED. THE DISCOVERY OF THIS SAFETY HAZARD TOOK PLACE FOR THE FIRST TIME ON AN INTERSTATE WHILE TRAVELING 65+ MPH. THE PASSENGER AT THE TIME WAS REACHING TO GRAB THEIR BEVERAGE FROM CUP HOLDER CLOSEST TO THE GEAR SHIFTER WHEN IT WAS HIT/TAPPED IN THE UPWARD MOTION ENGAGING THE TRANSMISSION INTO (R) REVERSE. IT TOOK ME A MINUTE TO GRASP WHAT HAPPENED BECAUSE WHILE I'M LOOKING FORWARD INTO THE DIRECTION I'M DRIVING, I GLANCE DOWN AT THE ODOMETER AND NOTICE (R) IN PLACE OF THE (D) WHERE THE CURRENT GEAR ENGAGED WOULD BE INDICATED. THEN OUT OF THE CORNER OF MY EYE I NOTICE THE CAMERA WAS ON DISPLAY BUT NOT REALIZING THE CAMERA WAS FROM THE REAR AND COULD SEE THE VEHICLES DIRECTLY BEHIND ME ON THE INTERSTATE. *TR

PAGE 2 OF 2 - I HAVE SINCE TAKEN THE VEHICLE TO BRANDON HONDA AND BASICALLY WAS ADVISED BY A SERVICE ADVISOR, MANAGER AND AMERICA HONDA CO THAT MY VEHICLE IS 'OPERATING BY DESIGN', 'MY ISSUES COULD NOT BE DUPLICATED ON SEVERAL TEST DRIVE ATTEMPTS' AND 'IT'S A SAFETY FEATURE' TALKING ABOUT WHEN THE VEHICLE CAN ENGAGE INTO REVERSE. AS OF TODAY I HAVE NO RESOLUTION TO THE CVT TRANSMISSION AND FRONT END CONCERNS BROUGHT TO THE ATTENTION OF BRANDON HONDA. I WAS ALSO TOLD BY A SERVICE TECHNICIAN THAT 'THIS WAS A SAFETY FEATURE' AND 'IT'S OPERATING AS DESIGNED' WHICH BOTH ARE NOT SOLUTIONS TO RESOLVE A MECHANICAL/SAFETY DEFECT IN THE VEHICLE OR DESIGN. I HAVE GIVEN BRANDON HONDA MULTIPLE TSBS TO REVIEW EACH VISIT AND KEPT HAVING THEM REJECTED. ONE OF THOSE TSBS MENTIONS HAVING TO DROP THE TRANSMISSION TO REPLACE A MODULE INSIDE OF THE CASING. OBVIOUSLY THE DEALERSHIP IS DOING WHATEVER THEY CAN TO AVOID HAVING TO PERFORM THIS REPAIR AND KEEP DRAGGING THEIR FEET TO ACCOMPLISH ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. THE ORIGINAL HONDA CASE # [XXX] WAS OPENED AND THEN CLOSED VIA VOICEMAIL PRIOR TO ME RECEIVING MY VEHICLE BACK FROM THE DEALERSHIP TO DETERMINE IF THE ISSUE WAS RESOLVED, YET TO MY SATISFACTION. WHAT WILL IT TAKE FOR HONDA TO ACT AND MAKE MY VEHICLE, EXPERIENCE WHOLE????? I BOUGHT MY VEHICLE WITH HARD EARNED $ NOT COUNTERFEIT, BROKEN OR LIFE THREATENING. NOTE: I HAVE VIDEO OF THE VEHICLE IN REVERSE MOTION WHILE CONTINUING FORWARD, ALONG WITH SEVERAL TSBS, WORK ORDERS, PICTURES AND DOCUMENTS TO SUPPORT MY CASE. THIS IS MY ONLY MEANS OF TRANSPORTATION AND I'M DRIVING OVER THE HOWARD FRANKLIN BRIDGE (15,899') EVERY DAY IN MY COMMUTE TO AND FROM MY OFFICE. FEEL FREE TO CONTACT ME FOR THE VIDEO, PICTURES OR DOCUMENTS NEEDED TO SUPPORT MY CASE.
