WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY DOING 60MPH, MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON SO I PULLED INTO A LOCAL PARTS STORE HAD THEM LOOK UP WHAT HAD MADE MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT TO COME ON AND THE CODE THAT SHOWED UP WAS P0740 (TORQUE CONVERTER CLUTCH CIRCUIT MALFUNCTION). NOW MY CAR IS HAVING HARD TIMES SHIFTING UP AND DOWN IN ALL SPEED RANGES. I HAVE BEEN RESEARCHING THIS PROBLEM AND HAVE FOUND SEVERAL COMPLAINTS BUT NO ACTION TAKEN. *TR

THE PROBLEM STARTED WITH A DEFECTIVE CVT TYPE TRANSMISSION. COMPLAINED TO AMERICAN HONDA AND THEY AGREED TO REPLACE THE TRANSMISSION IF I PAID $504 IN LABOR COSTS. ONE YEAR LATER THE TRANSMISSION DIED AGAIN, I NOW BELIEVE THEY ONLY FLUSHED OUT THE OLD TRANSMISSION I DOUBT THEY REPLACED THE TRANSMISSION. I COMPLAINED AGAIN AND HAD IT REPLACED. NOW THE PROBLEM IS THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT. IT COST $80 JUST FOR THEM CHECK THE COMPUTER WHICH HAS BEEN DONE TWICE. I WAS TOLD THAT THE CAR'S COMPUTER WAS MALFUNCTIONING AND THAT THERE WAS NOTHING SERIOUSLY WAS WRONG WITH THE CAR. HAD THE COMPUTER REPLACED AFTER SPLITTING THE COST WITH AMERICAN HONDA SO IT COST ME $396. TWO WEEKS LATER THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS BACK ON, I WENT TO ADVANCED AUTO PARTS AND HAD THE COMPUTER CODES READ FOR FREE THEY SAID IT WAS A MALFUNCTIONING O2 SENSOR, NOW THE DEALERSHIP WANTS ANOTHER $260 EACH SENSOR PLUS LABOR TO CHANGE BOTH SENSORS. *JB

I HAVE A 99 HONDA ACCORD V6 COUPE. MY TRANSMISSION STARTED HOLDING OUT GOING INTO SECOND GEAR, AND HAD A SMALL JERK. WHEN COME TO A COMPLETE STOP, IT WOULD DOWNSHIFT HARD BACK INTO 1ST GEAR. THE TRANSMISSION FINALLY GAVE UP ON THE HIGHWAY ON MY WAY TO WORK. THE TRANY WOULDNT SHIFT OUT OF SECOND GEAR, AND WHEN IT DID, IT WOULD QUICKLY SHIFT BACK DOWN, AND CAUSE THE ENGINE TO REV AT A HIGH RPM. I CALLED HONDA AND THEY SAID THEY COULDNT HELP ME. I HAD MY CAR PUT IN THE SHOP, AND MY TRANY REBUILT. COST ME $1200. I WAS READING A CHAT FORUM, AND HAVE DISCOVERED A TON OF PEOPLE WHO ARE HAVEING TROUBLE WITH THEIR TRANSMISSIONS IN THEIR HONDAS'!!

AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION ON MY 1999 HONDA ACCORD V-6 COUPE BEGAN SLIPPING AND SHIFTING ROUGHLY AT APPROXIMATELY 75,000 MILES. AAMCO DIAGNOSED A LUBRICATION PROBLEM CAUSING EXCESSIVE GEAR WEAR, AND RECOMMENDED REBUILDING THE TRANNY. HONDA DEALERSHIP CONCURRED WITH THIS DIAGNOSIS, AND REPLACED THE ENTIRE TRANSMISSION. THE 2001-2003 V-6 ACCORDS HAVE ALREADY BEEN RECALLED FOR THIS EXACT PROBLEM. I BELIEVE A TRANSMISSION DESIGN FAILURE EXISTED AS FAR BACK AS THE 1998 ACCORD MODELS. A QUICK SEARCH ON THE INTERNET REVEALED OVER 200 COMPLAINTS REGARDING 1999 ACCORD V-6 TRANSMISSION FAILURES. THERE IS THE POTENTIAL FOR A SERIOUS SAFETY PROBLEM IF SOMEONE'S TRANSMISSION FAILS WHILE THEY ARE DRIVING. ON 1 FEB 05, I TOOK MY 99 HONDA ACCORD, [XXX], TO A HONDA DEALER HERE IN FORT WALTON BEACH FLORIDA DUE TO SLUGGISH ACCELERATION. THEY TOLD ME THAT THE TRANSMISSION SYSTEM NEEDS TO BE REPLACED FOR APPROXIMATELY $3,700. I ASKED THEM WHY THE TRANSMISSION WOULD BREAKDOWN AT 47,000 MILES ONLY. THEY SAID IT IS NO LONGER COVERED BY WARRANTY BUT THEY WILL CHECK WITH HONDA HQS. LATER ON THE DAY, THEY CALLED AND SAID HONDA WILL PAY FOR THE PARTS BUT I HAVE TO PAY THE LABOR COST ($504) TO REPLACE THE TRANSMISSION. MY QUESTION IS: WHY DO I HAVE PAY FOR THE LABOR IF THEY AGREE TO PROVIDE THE PARTS. I READ THAT THERE IS A LOT OF PROBLEM ON HONDA TRANSMISSION SO I PRESUMED IT IS A FACTORY DEFECT. THE HANDLE THAT IS THE "SHIFTER" FOR PUTTING THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION INTO GEAR BROKE OFF! COMPLETELY CAME OFF THE STICK AND ALL THE PIECES INSIDE THE HAND HELD PIECE FELL OUT, LEAVING THE METAL ROD EXPOSED WHICH, THANK GOODNESS, I COULD PUSH IN AND STILL GET THE CAR IN GEAR. IT IS A 1999 HONDA ACCORD THAT ALSO HAS THE PROBLEM OF A PREVIOUS RECALL WHERE THE CAR WILL ROLL EVEN W/THE KEY TAKEN OUT. I LOVE MY HONDA BUT HAVING THE GEAR HANDLE COME OFF IS A SERIOUS SAFETY HAZARD AND I HAVE NO IDEA IF I DRIVE IT IF IT WILL CONTINUE TO ALLOW ME TO SHIFT IT. I WILL HAVE TO TAKE IT TO A DEALER? I OWN A 1999 HONDA CIVIC HX. I PURCHASED THE CAR LAST YEAR AND IT HAD 29,000 MILES. I TOOK IT FOR A TUNE UP RECENTLY AND THE MECHANIC TOLD ME THAT THERE WAS SOMETHING WRONG WITH THE TRANSMISSION. MY CAR WAS SHIFTING FROM 1 TO 3RD GEAR AND MISSING 2ND GEAR. HE CONSULTED WITH A MECHANIC THAT HAS A TRANSMISSION SHOP NEXT DOOR AND HE TOLD ME THAT NO ONE WILL TOUCH THE TRANSMISSION THAT I HAD TO TAKE IT TO THE DEALERSHIP. *AK I TOOK MY CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP TO GET A DIAGNOSTIC. I WAS TOLD THAT THE WHOLE TRANSMISSION NEEDS TO BE REPLACED AND THE COST WOULD BE AROUND $7,000.00. IT DOESN'T MAKE SENSE FOR ME TO SPEND THAT KIND OF MONEY ON A CAR THAT IS WORTH SLIGHTLY OVER THAT PRICE. THE WORST PART IS THAT THE TRANSMISSION HAS BEEN THE SAME SINCE I BOUGHT IT. SO THE PROBLEM WAS THERE BEFOREHAND AND NOW MY CAR IS NOT UNDER WARRANTY. I'M VERY UPSET ABOUT THIS WHOLE ORDEAL. I'M NOT THE ONLY ONE DEALING WITH THIS SITUATION. I RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE ON MY 1999 HONDA CIVIC FOR THE IGNITION SWITCH IN SEPTEMBER 2002. I TOOK THE CAR TO GET A NEW SWITCH INSTALLED. AFTER THAT I DID NOT SEE A POSITIVE CHANGE OR FASTER START UP OF THE CAR . IN FACT, IT SEEMED TO START SLOWER AND SLOWER. WHEN I WOULD PRESS THE ACCELERATOR I FELT A GRINDING SENSATION UNDER MY FOOT FROM THE GAS PEDAL, WHICH SOUNDED LIKE THE CAR WAS STRUGGLING TO SPEED UP. ALSO, WHEN I WOULD TURN THE KEY IN THE IGNITION THE CAR WOULD NOT START RIGHT AWAY, IT STALLED FOR ABOUT (7) SEVEN SECONDS OR SO. I BELIEVE THIS CAR IS A LEMON. WHEN I BOUGHT IT, THE GEARS WOULDN'T CHANGE PROPERLY. I WOULD PRESS THE ACCELERATOR TO GO UP TO SPPED ON THE HIGHWAY AND IT WOULD TAKE A LONG TIME FOR THE CAR TO CHANGE GEARS, IT SOUNDED VERY LOUD BECAUSE OF THIS. I DON'T KNOW WHY IT DID THIS, I AM CONCERNED AND IT BECAME VERY ANNOYING. I HAD AN ACCIDENT WHILE DRIVING THIS CAR ON OCT. 16, 2002. AS I WAS DRIVING I HEARD SOMETHING CRACK UNDER THE CAR AND THE CAR STARTED TO SPIN TO THE OTHER SIDE OF THE ROAD CAUSING ME TO LOSE CONTROL OF THE CAR. I BELIEVE THE CAR HAD A SAFETY DEFECT THAT CAUSED THE WHEELS TO BREAK, RESULTING IN LOSS OF CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. THE INSURANCE ADJUSTER TOLD ME THESE ARE SOME OF THE DAMAGES TO THE CAR: THE BOTTOM OF THE FLOOR SHIFTED, THE AXLE BROKE, THE TIRES AND WHEELS BROKE, THEY DECLARED THE CAR A TOTAL LOSS. I BELIEVE THE WHEELS/TIRES BROKE FIRST, WHICH IS PROBABLY WHAT THE CRACKING SOUND WAS THAT I HEARD WHICH CAUSED THE CAR SWERVE. MY INSURANCE COMPANY PAID THE CAR OFF SO FAST WHICH LEADS ME TO BELIEVE THEY ARE HIDING SOMETHING.
