The contact owns a 2002 Honda Civic. The contact stated while trying to fasten the driver’s side seat belt, the seat belt failed to release, not allowing the contact to fasten the seat belt. The vehicle was not diagnosed. The dealer was contacted and stated that the vehicle needed to be diagnosed. The manufacturer was contacted and also stated that the vehicle needed to be diagnosed. SRS Light on for a while in Honda Civic, Contacted Dealer as this car was messed with by another dealership last year during light swsitch recall, so wanted only other Dealership to diagnose the issue with SRS but diagnosis alone is $157 and since my auto mechanic cannot read the diagnosis Honda has put or installed this restricted setting on the car. Seat belts and seat bekt sensors may be bad and seat belt cant stick on driver;s side, indicating a safety issue, Transmission exhibiting trouble and revs up when shifting, hard to shift gears with automatic gear shift problems. This should not be happening and brand new engine had to be competely installed with new engine blocks, and new radiator and watter pump need due to failing.
SINCE THE PURCHASE OF THE VEHICLE THE SRS WARNING LIGHT HAS CONTINUOUSLY STAYED ILLUMINATED ON THE DASH BOARD. MY FIRST THOUGHT OF COURSE WAS SOMETHING WAS EITHER WRONG WITH THE AIR BAG SYSTEM OR THE VEHICLE WAS INVOLVED IN A COLLISION THAT LED TO THE AIR BAGS (WHICH ONES I HAVE NO CLUE) BEING DEPLOYED AND SO WHEN I SIGNED THE BILL OF SALE WITH THE DEALER I INQUIRED ABOUT THIS ISSUE AND WAS GIVEN A PAPER THAT STATES THE DEALER DID NOT KNOW AS WELL AS TO WHAYLT THE AIRBAG SYSTEM STATUS WAS BUT WAS TO BE EXCLUDED FROM LIABILITY TO THIS ISSUE BY MAKING UP THIS RIDICULOUS DOCUMENT. AFTER SEEING THE CAR FAX THE VEHICLE WAS THEN KNOWN TO HAVE BEEN IN A HEAD ON COLLISION IN 2018 AND SO THE DEALER LIED A BOUT NOT KNOWING ANYTHING ABOUT THIS ISSUE. THIS DEALER HAS BEEN TOTALLY NON COMPLIANT WITH THE PROCESS OF GETTING THIS ISSUE ADDRESSED LET ALONE FIXED AND I HAVE TRIED ON SEVERAL ATTEMPTS TO TALK TO OWNER WITHOUT ANY CALLBACK OR ANSWERS. I KNLY GET HOUNDED ABOUT WHAT THEY BELIEVE TO BE THE BALANCE DUE ON THE VEHICLE THAT'S IT . JUST TODAY I RAN THE VIN INN THE DATABASE AND SURE ENOUGH THERE WAS AN OPEN RECALL ON THE AIR BAG SYSTWMM IN ACCORDANCE WITH THIS VIN AND THAT'S WHEN I DECIDED TO FILE THIS COMPLAINT .
I HAVE HAD MY SRS LIGHT ON SINCE I PURCHASED THIS CAR IN JULY OF 2017. MY SEAT BELTS DO NOT LOCK AT THE APPROPRIATE TIMES. I WAS ALSO INVOLVED IN A WRECK DRIVING IN RAIN ON THE INTERSTATE AND HYDROPLANED. I HIT A MEDIAN GOING ABOUT 50 MPH. NO AIR BAGS EJECTED FROM THE IMPACT. THE RESULTS OF THE IMPACT WERE A DENTED FENDER, REPLACEMENT OF THE DRIVER SIDE CONTROL ARM, NEW BALL JOINTS, AS WELL AS A DESPERATELY NEEDED TIRE ALIGNMENT. I FEEL IF THIS IMPACT WAS HARD ENOUGH TO BEND THE CONTROL ARM THEN MY AIR BAGS SHOULD HAVE EJECTED, BUT I'M NO MECHANIC. THANK YOU.

AIRBAG (SRS) LIGHT CONSTANTLY APPEARS FOR FAULTY SEATBELT SENSOR. THE SEATBELT SENSOR IS CONSTANTLY FAILING DISPUTE GETTING IT SERVICED. IT'S VERY DANGEROUS AS IT COULD RESULT IN THE AIRBAG NOT DEPLOYING.

TAKATA RECALL: I ROLLED MY CAR ON MY WAY TO WORK IN AUGUST OF 2015. I HAD GOTTEN A LETTER 2 WEEKS PRIOR OF AN AIRBAG RECALL. I CALLED THE LOCAL DEALERSHIPS BUT DUE TO HIGH VOLUME I WAS PUT ON A WAITING LIST. MY AIRBAGS DIDN'T DEPLOY AND MY DRIVER'S SEATBELT DIDN'T LOCK. I SUFFERED A FRACTURE TO THE BASE OF MY SKULL AND A TRAUMATIC BRAIN INJURY. I COULDN'T WORK AT ALL FOR 9 MONTHS AND COULD ONLY WORK 10-15 HOURS A WEEK FOR SEVERAL MONTHS AFTER THAT. A WEEK AFTER THE CAR ACCIDENT I WAS FIRED FROM MY JOB WITHOUT SEVERANCE PAY AND I CALLED HONDA HEADQUARTERS AND THEY TOLD ME TO KEEP CHECKING FOR CLASS ACTION LAWSUITS. I WAS DRIVING ON A BACKROAD GOING 40 MPH AND I HIT SOME LOSE GRAVEL. I OVER REACTED AND TURNED THE WHEEL CAUSING ME TO MAKE A U TURN. I HIT MY BREAKS HARD TO STOP AND MAKE SURE MY SEATBELT WOULD LOCK. THE MOMENTUM OF STOPPING CAUSED MY HONDA TO ROLL. SINCE THE AIRBAGS DIDN'T DEPLOY MY FACE REPEATEDLY HIT THE STEERING WHEEL AND BECAUSE MY SEATBELT DIDN'T LOCK MY HEAD SMASHED THE ROOF OF THE HONDA REPEATEDLY.

THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN A RECALL. NO FURTHER ASSISTANCE WAS OFFERED. FOR EVERYONE WONDERING IF THE SRS SENSOR IS SOMETHING THAT NEEDS TO BE RECALLED.. I WILL TELL YOU YES!! I BOUGHT MY 2002 CIVIC NEW AND IN AUGUST 2003 I TOTALED OUT MY CAR. NEITHER AIR BAG DEPLOYED AND MY SEAT BELT (WHICH I USE TO BELIEVE IN) RELEASED WHILE MY CAR FLIPPED SEVERAL TIMES AND I WAS EJECTED. SINCE MY SEATBELT RELEASED IN THE MIDDLE OF FLIPPING SOMEHOW WRAPPED AROUND AND CUT AND BURNED MY ARM. MY ARM WAS ALMOST AMPUTATED 3/4 OF THE WAY. THANK GOD FOR THE 2 INCHES AND MY AMAZING DOCTORS I WAS ABLE TO KEEP MY ARM AFTER SIX SURGERIES INCLUDING PLASTIC SURGERY. MY ARM WAS ALSO BROKE. I NOW HAVE RADIAL NERVE DAMAGE WHICH MEANS I CAN NOT OPEN AND CLOSE MY HAND ALONG WITH LIMP WRIST. ALSO BOTH HIPS WERE FRACTURED ALONG WITH MY PELVIC.DUE TO THE LACERATIONS FROM MY SEAT BELT AN ARTERY WAS CUT WHERE I LOST ALOT OF BLOOD AND WAS TOLD I WAS TOUCH AND GO AT THE TIME AND WERE NOT SURE IF I WAS GOING TO MAKE IT, AFTER BLOOD TRANSFUSIONS AND SURGERIES I AM BEYOND THANKFUL TO BE HERE TODAY. AT THE AGE OF 25 I WAS PUT ON DISABILITY AND ALSO HAD TO FILE BANKRUPTCY DUE TO I HAD OVER 100K IN MEDICAL BILLS. FOR THOSE OF YOU THAT ARE HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THIS PLEASE GET IT FIXED IT COULD MEAN MORE THAN YOU KNOW. I BELIEVE THIS MEANS THE AIRBAGS ARE NOT WORKING. HONDA ACCEPTS NO RESPONSIBILITY FOR THIS DEFECT. AFTER RECENTLY LOOKING THROUGH OLD RECEIPTS, I FOUND THAT THERE WAS A RECALL IN 2007 FOR THE OPDS AND THE SRS LIGHT STAYING ON. IN THAT CASE, THE AIRBAGS WERE IN DANGER OF NOT DEPLOYING AS WELL IF SOMEONE WAS OUT OF POSITION IN THE SEAT. IT SEEMS TO ME THAT THERE IS AN ISSUE WITH CIVIC'S SRS SYSTEM AND THE SEAT BELT BUCKLE SWITCH IS AN ONGOING AND RELATED ISSUE AS WELL. SEAT BELTS ARE COVERED UNDER A LIFETIME WARRANTY BUT FOR SOME REASON THE BUCKLE SWITCH IS NOT. IN ANY CASE, I'M WONDERING WHY THERE HASN'T BEEN A RECALL ON THE SEAT BELT BUCKLE SWITCH WHEN IT IS A PREVALENT PROBLEM WITH THIS VEHICLE. YEARS AFTER I HAD THIS ISSUE, I AM SEEING ON THE INTERNET THAT MANY PEOPLE ARE STILL HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM. THE CONTACT HAD NOT RECEIVED ANY FURTHER NOTIFICATION STATING THAT THE VEHICLE HAD BEEN ADDED TO THE RECALL. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNAVAILABLE. WHILE FLIPPING MY SEATBELT RELEASED ME THROWING ME OUT OF THE DRIVER WINDOW LANDING FACE FIRST IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD. MY INJURIES MY LEFT ARM WAS SEVERELY BURNED DOCTORS CONCLUDE MY SEATBELT WRAPPED AROUND MY ARM DUE TO THE FLIPPING THE SEATBELT CUT MY ARM 3/4 OF THE WAY ALMOST AMPUTATING IT. OUR SRS LIGHT HAS BEEN PERMANENTLY ON FOR AT LEAST 6 MONTHS AND OUR DRIVERS SIDE SEAT BELT IS STICKING AND NOT ALWAYS LOCKING IN PLACE. THE SRS (SECONDARY RESTRAINT SYSTEM) LIGHT IN OUR 2002 HONDA CIVIC HAS COME ON. THIS IS AT LEAST THE THIRD TIME THIS HAS OCCURRED. THE FIRST TIME BEFORE WE OWNED THE VEHICLE AT ABOUT 30,000 MILES. THE SECOND SOME TIME IN BETWEEN. THIS LAST TIME AT ABOUT 70,000 MILES. THE HONDA DEALERSHIP SAID THE COMPUTER TELLS THEM THE LIGHT COMES ON BECAUSE OF THE BUCKLE ON THE PASSENGER SIDE SEA BELT IS DEFECTIVE. THEY HAVE REPLACED THE BUCKLE AT LEAST TWICE. THEY REFUSE TO REPLACE IT AGAIN BECAUSE THEY CLAIM THAT IS NOT THE PROBLEM, THE SEAT BUCKLE WARNING LIGHT DOES NOT COME ON WHEN A PASSENGER IS SITTING IN THE PASSENGER SEAT, WITHOUT THE SEAT BELT BEING LATCHED. I BELIEVE THIS MEANS THE AIRBAGS ARE NOT OPERATIONAL. THE HONDA DEALERSHIP DOES NOT KNOW WHAT THE PROBLEM IS. THEY CLAIM THAT THE PROBLEM IS EITHER IN THE WIRING HARNESS OR THE COMPUTER. ONE FIX WOULD COST $400, THE OTHER $600. THEY REFUSE TO DO ANYTHING FURTHER, ALTHOUGH THEY OFFERED TO SPLIT THE COST OF REPLACING THE HARNESS OR COMPUTER. THEY CLAIM A LIFETIME WARRANTY ON THE SEAT BELTS BUT ARE NOT HONORING IT IN THIS CASE. *JB

IMMEDIATELY, THE SEAT BELT WAS SECURELY ENGAGED INTO THE BUCKLE MECHANISM. THE "SRS" WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL AND REMAINED LIT UNTIL THE ENGINE WAS TURNED OFF. THE FAILURES OCCURRED SPONTANEOUSLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR INSPECTION AND THEY STATED THAT THE FAILURE WAS RELATED TO THE SEAT BELT SENSOR. THE CONTACT WAS CONCERNED OF THE SAFETY RISK INVOLVED. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 48,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 51,000.

I FIRST WENT TO THE DEALER ON 10/6/06 WHERE THEY DID A SCAN ON MY CAR AND WAS TOLD IT WAS A UNIT FAILURE AND I WOULD HAVE TO REPLACE MY SRS UNIT ($530.09). I WAS UNABLE TO AFFORD THE REPAIR, SO I HAD TO TAKE THE RISK AND DRIVE AROUND (AVERAGE 60 MILES A DAY FOR COMMUTE) WITH NO AIR BAGS TO SAVE MY LIFE IN AN ACCIDENT. I WAS TOLD TO CALL THE AMERICAN HONDA COMPANY TO SEE IF THEY WOULD COVER THE COST. THEY TOLD ME AIRBAGS ARE NOT AN IMPORTANT SAFETY FEATURE, THEY ARE MORE OF A BONUS. THEY SAID IF IT WAS MY SEAT BELT THEY WOULD HELP ME, BUT THEY DO NOT FEEL AIR BAGS ARE IMPORTANT ENOUGH TO FIX. THEY ALSO SAID THEY DON'T REALLY SAVE LIVES. MY 7 1/2 YEAR OLD SON GOT INTO THE BACK SIDE PASSENGER SEAT OF MY MOTHER'S HONDA CIVIC, (WE WERE VISITING THEM FROM OUT OF TOWN)-- I WAS DRIVING, AND MY MOTHER WAS IN THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT. I HAD ASSUMED MY SON WAS BUCKLED IN (HE ALWAYS IS ABLE TO DO SO WITHOUT ANY PROBLEMS, AND HAS DONE SO FOR A LONG TIME NOW), AND WE HAD GONE DOWN THE ROAD FOR A COUPLE OF MINUTES, AND I LOOKED BACK AT HIM AND THE SEAT BELT WAS NOT BUCKLED, BUT THE LENGTH OF IT HAD LOOPED AROUND HIS NECK SOMEHOW, AND WAS TIGHT AROUND HIS NECK. HE SAID "I CAN'T BREATHE," AND HIS FACE WAS RED. I IMMEDIATELY STOPPED, JUMPED OUT AND RAN AROUND THE BACK TO TRY TO DISLODGE HIM, BUT COULD NOT PULL THE STRAP AT ALL FROM WHERE IT GOES BACK INTO THE TOP OF THE SEAT AREA ABOVE HIS HEAD--IT HAD LOCKED IN THE RATCHETING MECHANISM AND WOULD NOT RELEASE AND IN FACT, AS I PULLED ON IT, IT SEEMED TO ONLY GET TIGHTER. I YELLED TO MY MOTHER WHO WAS IN THE FRONT SEAT-- SHE REALIZED WHAT WAS GOING ON, AND SHE GRABBED A LARGE PAIR OF SCISSORS (MIRACULOUSLY, SHE KEEPS THEM IN HER CAR. . .) AND WE WERE ABLE TO CUT THE BELT AND GET MY SON RELEASED. HAD SHE NOT BEEN THERE, AND HAD SHE NOT KEPT THE SCISSORS IN THE CAR, (I NEVER WOULD HAVE KNOWN SHE KEPT SCISSORS), WELL, I CANNOT EVEN DEAL WITH SUCH AN UNTHINKABLE POSSIBILITY. FOR NO DISCERNIBLE REASON THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM MOMENTARILY FAILED UPON START UP AND THEN THE SRS INDICATOR LIGHT CAME ON. THIS IS THE COMPUTER THAT CONTROLS THE AIR BAGS AND SEAT BELTS. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AND WAS CHARGED $80 FOR A "DIAGNOSTIC" - BASICALLY, THEY REBOOT THE SRS COMPUTER AND TOLD ME IF IT HAPPENS AGAIN I WOULD HAVE TO BUY A NEW COMPUTER AT A MINIMUM COST OF $800 PLUS LABOR. *JB

THE SEAT BELT DOES NOT FULLY RETRACT, IT ONLY GOES ABOUT HALF WAY IN BEFORE SLOWING DOWN OR STOPPING. IT THEN GETS STUCK IN THE DOOR WHEN YOU CLOSE THE DOOR. I WOULD EXPECT THAT THIS WOULD WEAKEN THE BELT. THIS HAS BEEN A PROBLEM FROM DAY ONE. I'VE ALREADY HAD THE CAR TO THE DEALER TO FIX THIS AND MANY OTHER PROBLEMS, AND, EVEN THOUGH I HAD AN APPOINTMENT, THEY DECIDED THAT THEY WERE TOO BUSY TO LOOK INTO ANY PROBLEMS.
