The contact owned a 2003 Honda Civic. The contact stated while driving at approximately 30 MPH and attempting to proceed at a green light, the front passenger side of the vehicle crashed into the front driver-side of another vehicle. The air bags were not deployed. The contact noticed that there were bruises on both of her knees and endured neck and back pain from the impact. Medical attention was sought. No one else was injured that was not in the vehicle. No warning light was illuminated. The contact stated that the vehicle stopped in the middle of the intersection. The vehicle was not drivable and was towed to a dealer; the vehicle received a diagnosis stating that the vehicle was totaled. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 154,311.

Air bag light came on for no reason. [XXX]

The contact owned a 2003 Honda Civic. The contact stated that while driving at 55 MPH, a semi-truck unexpectedly crossed into his lane which caused him to crash the truck's land gear. The air bags did not deploy upon impact and the seat belt pretensioners failed to restrain the contact. The contact was taken to the hospital via ambulance and was treated for multiple torn ligaments, a chest injury, and back pain. The other driver did not suffer any injuries and a police report was filed. The vehicle was initially towed to an independent tow yard and was later towed back to the contact's residence where it remained in his possession. The dealer and the manufacturer were both notified of the failure. A case was filed. The vehicle was deemed a total loss. The failure mileage was unknown.

Both the side airbag and front airbag lights on the dashboard are on, and the mechanic I go to has no clue why the warning lights are on. I am concerned about my safety in the event of a crash, as I don’t know if they will deploy, or fail.

My Air Bag light indicator light has come on and does not go off. My car is a 2003 Honda Civic LX module. I am the third owner of this vehicle. I bought it at Kelly Nissan on 248 E in Easton, Pa with 117,880 miles. It has 123,000 miles on it now. There were no other indicator lights on prior to this safety issue, air bag light indicator light coming on and it is still on at the present time, I need it fixed, because it has to be inspected by July 31, 2022, and I do not think it will pass Pa inspection. The contact stated that she had previously received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 19V499000 (Air Bags) and the vehicle was taken to the dealer for the front driver's air bag replacement; however, upon picking up the vehicle, she noticed that the air bag warning light was illuminated. The dealer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that the warning light was illuminated prior to the recall repair. The vehicle then was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that a disconnected electrical wire for the air bag might have caused the impact sensor to fail. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 140,000. The VIN was not available.

THE CONTACT WAS ALSO TREATED FOR A CONCUSSION. THE CONTACT'S PASSENGER NOR THE OTHER DRIVER WERE TREATED FOR INJURIES. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED AT THE SCENE AND TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. NOTHING HAS HAPPENED YET, BUT I AM WORRIED SOMETHING WILL. THE PROBLEMS WITH THE AIRBAGS ON MY CAR ARE BEYOND RIDICULOUS AT THIS POINT AND SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE. I AM WORRIED ABOUT MY SAFETY WHEN DRIVING MY ONLY CAR. THE VEHICLE HAS ALREADY BEEN RECALLED TWICE NOW AND IT SEEMS THAT THE AIRBAG PROBLEMS HAVE STILL NOT BEEN RESOLVED. HONDA IS UNABLE TO FIX THE CURRENT ISSUE UNTIL THEY HAVE THE PARTS, WHICH COULD BE A LONG TIME. (I HAVE NOT SCHEDULED THE POINTLESS ACT.) I SPOKE TO SOMEONE IN COMPLAINTS. IF THE SRS LIGHT IS DUE TO A SENSOR PROBLEM, REPLACEMENT WILL COST ANOTHER $1900. SINCE IT WAS NOT PART OF THE RECALL I DID NOT CONTACT THEM FIGURING THAT IT WOULD NOT BE COVERED. HOWEVER, I HAVE SEEN NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE SAME THING HAPPENING TO OTHERS ONLINE. IT ALSO HAPPENED TO A FRIEND OF MINE AND HONDA COVERED IT SO I CALLED AND WAS TOLD IT WOULD NOT BE COVERED IT MUST BE A COINCIDENCE AND CERTAINLY NOT FROM A DEFECT OR IMPROPER WORK. I FIND IT VERY ODD THAT THE LIGHT CAME ON RIGHT AFTER THE WORK ON THE RECALL. I HAD DOUBTS ABOUT BRINING IT IN AND SHOULD NOT HAVE DONE IT. I WENT BACK TO SPEAK WITH THE DEALERSHIP AND THE WOMAN SAID THAT LIGHT IS NOT PART OF THE RECALL! HOW ABSURD IS THAT?! THERE'S A DIAGNOSTIC CHARGE FOR FIGURING OUT WHAT THE PROBLEM IS. WHY ISN'T THIS PART OF THE RECALL, HONDA?!?!

THIS IS AN INTEGRAL PART OF A SAFETY SYSTEM THAT SHOULD NOT FAIL UNDER NORMAL WEAR AN TEAR. THE PART WAS ON BACK ORDER AND REQUIRED A DEPOSIT OF $800 TO ORDER. WE LEFT THE DEALERSHIP NOT KNOWING IF OUR AIRBAGS WOULD WORK OR NOT.

I WAS TOLD THEY WOULD ORDER THE PART. I CALLED THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT IN JANUARY 2015 AND WAS TOLD MY NAME WASN'T EVEN IN THE SYSTEM BUT HE WOULD ORDER THE PART. I CALLED AGAIN ON MAY 18, 2015, AND WAS TOLD THE PART WAS STILL BACK ORDERED.

THE AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED TEN TO FIFTEEN MINUTES AFTER THE INCIDENT. AFTER EXPERIENCING THE FAILURE, IT WAS DISCOVERED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBERS: 15V37000 (AIR BAGS) AND 15V320000 (AIR BAGS). THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS CONFIRMED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS INCLUDED IN THE RECALLS. DUE TO THE FAILURE ALREADY BEING EXPERIENCED, THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED AND THE RECALL REMEDIES WERE DECLINED. A POLICE REPORT WAS NOT FILED AND NO INJURIES WERE SUSTAINED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 127,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.

SRS LIGHT IS ALWAYS ON. I HAVE RESET IT A NUMBER OF TIMES BUT IT WILL GO ON AGAIN AFTER A FEW DAYS OR WEEKS. THE AIR BAGS WILL NOT DEPLOY WHEN THE LIGHT IS ON. I AM SURPRISED THAT THIS IS NOT A VERY SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE. FROM REVIEWING THE COMPLAINTS, THE DEALERS ANSWERS OR GUESSES AS TO WHAT'S WRONG ARE TOO NUMEROUS TO LIST HERE AND THE COST JUST TO INVESTIGATE IS JUST TOO HIGH. THERE IS SOMETHING OBVIOUSLY WRONG WITH THIS SYSTEM AND HONDA NEEDS TO SERIOUSLY ADDRESS THIS ISSUE.

WHEN WE CALLED, THE DEALERSHIP STATED THAT OUR VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. WE RESET THE SRS COMPUTER. WE NEVER RECEIVED ANY PAPERWORK STATING THERE EVER WAS SUCH A RECALL. WHILE OUT RUNNING ERRANDS ON 01/31/2015 WE HEARD A NEWS REPORT ABOUT A PRIOR RECALL FOR THE TAKATA AIRBAGS DID NOT WORK PROPERLY. OUR SRS LIGHT IS BACK ON AFTER A COUPLE OF COMPUTER RESETS WITHOUT A CODE EVER PULLING UP ON THE VEHICLE. WHEN WE GOT HOME WE DECIDED TO DO A RECALL CHECK BY VIN ON HONDA'S WEBSITE. THE VEHICLE HAS INCOMPLETE RECALL FROM 06/19/2014. THE CALL NUMBER IS 14V-351. THIS IS A SERIOUS ISSUE WHEN IT COMES TO SAFETY: 1. FOR NOT BEING NOTIFIED OF A POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS RECALL, 2.FOR BEING LIED TO ABOUT THE RECALL WHEN CALLING THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP. I WAS TAKEN ABACK BY THIS BECAUSE IT IS NOT PART OF REGULAR WEAR AND TEAR, BUT A VEHICLE MALFUNCTION AND I DID NOTHING TO CAUSE THE AIRBAG LIGHT TO COME ON. I HAVE NOT YET GOTTEN THIS ISSUE FIXED AND THE AIRBAG WARNING LIGHT IS STILL ON. I AM THE ORIGINAL OWNER OF A 2003 HONDA CIVIC SI THAT HAS APPROXIMATELY 58,000 MILES. THE CAR HAS ALWAYS BEEN GARAGED AND HAS ALWAYS BEEN MAINTAINED BY HONDA DEALERS. I HAVE ALWAYS MET AND IN SOME CASES EXCEEDED THE RECOMMENDED MAINTENANCE INTERVALS. IN NOVEMBER OF 2009, THE SRS LIGHT APPEARED ON MY DASH AFTER STARTING THE VEHICLE ONE MORNING. THIS OCCURRED ABOUT 2 WEEKS AFTER A ROUTINE OIL/FILTER SERVICE VISIT AT MY LOCAL HONDA DEALER. I RETURNED TO THE DEALER AND PAID APPROXIMATELY $85 FOR THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT TO EVALUATE WHY THIS SRS INDICATOR LIGHT WAS ILLUMINATED. I WAS TOLD MY VEHICLE HAD A "BAD INFLATER" THAT "WOULD NOT INFLATE THE AIR BAGS DURING A [COLLISION]" AND THAT I NEEDED TO ORDER/PURCHASE A NEW CABLE REEL ASSEMBLY. THE ESTIMATED PARTS AND LABOR CHARGES WOULD BE $540. THE SERVICE PERSONNEL TOLD ME THAT THEY WEREN'T SURE IF THE NEW CABLE REEL ASSEMBLY WOULD RESOLVE THE SRS ISSUE BUT THEY BELIEVED THAT IT WAS AT LEAST PARTLY TO BLAME FOR THE SRS LIGHT BEING ILLUMINATED ON THE DASH. I AM PRESENTLY AWARE OF THE RECALL OF A NUMBER OF MANY 2003 HONDA CIVICS BUT MINE HAS NOT BEEN INCLUDED. THE ISSUE WITH MY VEHICLE REPRESENTS AN UNEXPLAINED FAILURE OF A CRITICAL SAFETY SYSTEM THAT IS UNACCEPTABLE GIVEN THE AGE AND USAGE OF THIS VEHICLE. THE DOCTOR SUGGESTED THAT HE HAVE SURGERY, BUT THE CONTACT IS AVOIDING THE PROCEDURE. HE FEELS THAT IF THE AIR BAGS WOULD HAVE DEPLOYED, HE WOULD NOT HAVE TO SUFFER SO MUCH PAIN IN HIS BACK, NECK, AND STOMACH. THE MANUFACTURER HAS NOT RETURNED ANY OF HIS PHONE CALLS. THE VEHICLE'S SRS LIGHT STARTED TO COME ON. IT WOULD COME ON AND OFF UNTIL IT FINALLY STAYED ON. WE TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AND THE DEALER SAID IT WAS THE AIRBAG CONTROL MODULE. IT WOULD COST $700 TO REPAIR. BASED ON A DIFFERENT DEFECT, HONDA HAS EXTENDED THE WARRANTY ON THEIR SRS IF THE ERROR CODE COMES UP AS 15-1, 15-2, 15-3 (OPDS SENSOR OR CONTROL UNIT). THIS WARRANTY DID NOT COVER THE DEFECT I HAVE ON THE AIRBAG. MY ERROR CODE WAS 7-2, THE "CONTROL MODULE. WITH THE SRS LIGHT ON, THE AIRBAG (ACCORDING TO THE DEALER) IS NOT ACTIVE. MY 2003 CIVIC HYBRID WAS T-BONED ON THE DRIVERS SIDE BY A NISSAN ALTIMA TRAVELING 30-35MPH. THE MAJORITY OF THE IMPACT WAS ON THE LEFT REAR DOOR AND MIDPOST BETWEEN THE LEFT FRONT AND LEFT REAR DOOR. THE LEFT FRONT DOOR WAS CRINKLED LEAVING WINDOW AND DOOR UNABLE TO FUNCTION. LEFT REAR DOOR COMPLETELY SMASHED AND LEFT REAR WINDOW BROKEN OUT. THE SIDE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. I INQUIRED WITH HONDA (LOCAL AND NATIONAL) INQUIRING IF THE SIDE AIR BAG SHOULD HAVE DEPLOYED. BOTH LOCAL AND NATIONAL HONDA SAID THE DEPLOYMENT OF THE SIDE AIR BAG DEPENDS ON THE ANGLE OF IMPACT, ETC. I TOLD THEM I WAS CONCERNED IF THE AIRBAGS WOULD FUNCTION IF I HAD ANOTHER WRECK. THEY SAID IF SIDE AIR BAGS WERE NOT FUNCTIONING, A WARNING LIGHT WOULD BE ACTIVE ON THE DASH. NO PARTS WERE REPLACED, ETC. WHEN THE CAR WAS BEING REPAIRD AND WAS TORN DOWN IN BODY SHOP, I WENT TO THE SHOP AND LOOKED AT THE SENSORS AND THEIR LOCATION. THEY WERE LOCATED AT THE BASE (FLOOR LEVEL) OF THE CAR, MIDWAY BETWEEN THE FRONT AND REAR DOOR. THE CAR IS A COMPACT, AND NATURALLY SITS LOW ANYWAY. MOST CAR BUMPERS ON IMPACT WILL HIT 1/3 OR 1/2 WAY UP THE DOOR, ESPECIALLY TRUCKS/SUVS. IT SEEMS TO ME THE SENSORS ARE TOO LOW. ALSO, I RECEIVED A LACERATION ON MY HEAD. AS THE CAR SHIFTED STRONGLY TO THE RIGHT AT IMPACT, MY HEAD SLAMMED INTO THE SUPPORT HANDLE THAT IS POSITIONED ABOVE THE DRIVER'S WINDOW IN THE INTERIOR. IN MY CALL TO HONDA'S NATIONAL OFFICE, I SUGGESTED THEY CHECK THE SIDE AIR BAG SENSORS ENGINEERING, AND THAT THEY REMOVE THE INTERIOR HANDLE ABOVE THE DRIVER'S WINDOW (I'VE NOTICED OTHER BRANDS OF VEHICLES DON'T HAVE THEM THERE). SECOND INJURY WAS MY WIFE'S NECK BEING SORE AFTER THE WRECK FROM WHIPLASH. SUMMARY: TWO CONCERNS 1) ARE SIDE AIR BAG SENSORS WORKING AND/OR ENGINEERED PROPERLY, AND 2) THE SUPPORT HANDLE THAT IS HEAD- HIGH ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE SHOULD BE REMOVED.*AK
