The contact owned a 2006 Honda Civic. The contact stated that while the husband was idling behind a bus, a second vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed crashed into the rear end of the vehicle. The impact of the rear-end crash pushed the vehicle into the rear of the bus causing severe damage to the vehicle's front end. During the crash, the air bags did not deploy and the seatbelts on both the driver's and front passenger's side had malfunctioned and did not properly secure the occupants. The driver sustained bruising of the chest and torso. The front passenger sustained a head injury. No medical treatment was immediately required. The vehicle was destroyed. A police report was taken at the scene and the vehicle was towed to a local service center. The cause of the failure was not determined. The manufacturer and local dealer were not contacted. The failure mileage was 170,000.

I WOULD LIKE TO MAKE AN APPOINTMENT FOR THE AIRBAG RECALL.

On Friday 8/12/22 at about 12PM, the drivers side airbag on my Honda Civic inadvertently deployed while driving west on Hwy 28 in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan (coords 46.310194, -85.627542). I was driving the speed limit (65 mph). The car did not collide with any object. I noticed the airbag light had come on before the incident, however, there were no service centers or Honda dealers within at least a hundred miles. My safety was put at risk by the sudden and unexpected deployment of the airbag. My left wrist and elbow were injured by the deployment along with laceration on my wrist. I have an appointment at the local Honda Dealer (Thelen Honda - Bay City, MI) on 9/2/22 at 9:30am to have the vehicle/airbag system inspected. Unfortunately, there are no earlier openings for service. A claim has been filed with my car insurance. They have not inspected the damage at this time and probably won't because they informed me my policy won't cover the damage.

This was a drive from NY to Boston. In Boston, I was driving about 45MPH, 1 mile before the last exit from HWY. Suddenly, the car is out of control, probably the brake system, making the car turning around until it hits the divider on the rear right side of the car. Both right-side passenger airbags were activated, but none inflated as expected. Luckily, we didn't hit any other cars. Three people in the car were safe, except I have muscle pain near the neck and shoulder.

I WAS TOLD MY CAR NEEDS AN INFLATOR BUT THAT IT IS NOT COVERED UNDER RECALL. WHY DOES THIS CAR HAVE AN AIRBAG ISSUE THAT IS NOT COVERED? 802 HONDA, IN MONTPELIER VT HAS REPLACED THE DRIVERS SEAT BELT BUCKLE TWICE AND EACH TIME THE AIRBAG LIGHT GOES OUT BUT NOW THEY SAY IT NEEDS A RIGHT SIDE AIRBAG INFLATOR IN THE SEAT WHICH IS NOT COVERED BY THE RECALL AND THEY GAVE ME A REPAIR ESTIMATE (RANGE) OF $1,000 TO $1,500. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE AND SHOULD THEREFORE BE COVERED BY RECALL. ADDITIONALLY, THERE WAS A RECALL ON THE VISORS WHICH FALL INTO THE LINE OF SIGHT WHEN DRIVING AS A RESULT OF SPLITTING APART WHICH SHOULD ALSO BE COVERED BUT THERE WAS AN EXPIRATION ON THAT RECALL. THE SAFETY ISSUE IS THE SAME REGARDLESS OF WHETHER THE CAR IS SIX YEARS OLD OR 16 AND REGARDLESS OF THE MILEAGE SO THIS TOO SHOULD BE COVERED BY THE MANUFACTURER.

WHEN I SPOKE TO HERSON'S THE POC TOLD ME THAT THE REPLACEMENT PART IS NOT AVAILABLE AND DEALERSHIP WILL CONTACT ME ONCE IT ARRIVES. HE ALSO MENTIONED THAT IT COULD TAKE MORE THAN 90 DAYS. AS OF TODAY, I HAVE NOT RECEIVED ANY CALL FROM THE DEALERSHIP. I AM NOT SURE WHAT IS GOING ON BUT I DO NOT THINK HONDA IS TAKING THIS SAFETY ISSUE SERIOUSLY.

AS I WAS DRIVING STRAIGHT DOWN RT 102 WEST BOUND IN RHODE ISLAND, IN THE LEFT LANE OF A TWO LAND ROAD IN ROUGHLY THE 30 - 40 MPH RANGE WITH MY 7 MONTH OLD TODDLER IN THE CAR SEAT IN THE BACK SEAT, THE SIDE AIR BAGS ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE OF THE CAR DEPLOYED WHILE THE CAR WAS IN MOTION FOR NO APPARENT REASON. MY CAR WAS NOT IN AN ACCIDENT AND DID NOT HIT A POT HOLE OR A BUMP IN THE ROAD. IT WAS A SMOOTH DRIVE UP UNTIL I HEAD A LOUD BANG AND WAS SMACKED IN THE SIDE OF THE HEAD WHILE DRIVING THE CAR, WHEN THE SIDE AIR BAGS DEPLOYED. MY DRIVER'S SIDE SEAT BELT IS LOCKED UP AS WELL. I WAS LEFT WITH A TEMPORARY RED MARK ON MY NECK AND A RINGING IN MY EARS. AFTER 3 HOURS THE HEARING IN MY LEFT EAR HAS YET TO RETURN BACK TO NORMAL. I DO NOT KNOW WHY THE DRIVER'S SIDE AIRBAGS DEPLOYED OR WHAT COMPONENT IS THE CAUSE. THIS INCIDENT ENGAGED MY SAFETY AND THE SAFETY OF MY CHILD.

OUR DEALER RAN INTO A PROBLEM WITH A MOUNTING BOLT (APPARENTLY A BOLT WAS CROSS-THREADED AND TWISTED OFF). A CALL TO HONDA AMERICA CONFIRMED THE ENTIRE AIR BAG WOULD THEN HAVE TO BE REPLACED. OUR DEALER ORDERED THE PART THAT DAY. AND HAS OF THIS WRITING NOT YET RECEIVED THE AIR BAG FROM HONDA AMERICA. OUR DEALER GAVE US A LOANER CAR FOR TWO MONTHS, BUT THEN TOOK IT BACK AND GAVE US OUR CAR BACK, WITHOUT A FRONT PASSENGER-SIDE AIRBAG, ON OCTOBER 31, WITH INSTRUCTIONS TO NOT PUT A PASSENGER IN THE FRONT SEAT. I RECEIVED A LETTER IN JULY 2016 (OFFICIAL DATE MAY 23, 2016) DETAILING AN IMPORTANT SAFETY RECALL ON MY 2006 HONDA CIVIC. THE PROBLEM IS THAT "THE PROPELLANT WAFERS IN SOME OF THE SUBJECT INFLATORS MAY DEGRADE OVER TIME, WHICH COULD LEAD TO OVER-AGGRESSIVE COMBUSTION IN THE EVENT THE AIRBAG IS ACTIVATED." THE LETTER GOES ON TO EXPLAIN THAT THIS COULD CAUSE METAL FRAGMENTS TO PASS THROUGH THE AIRBAG CUSHION AND HARM THE VEHICLE OCCUPANT. THE ONLY OPTION GIVEN IN THE LETTER IS TO AVOID HAVING A PASSENGER SIT IN THE FRONT PASSENGER'S SEAT UNTIL THE RECALL REPAIR HAS BEEN PERFORMED. ACCORDING TO THE LETTER, THE PARTS WERE SUPPOSED TO BE AVAILABLE BY NOW. UNFORTUNATELY, BOTH OF OUR VEHICLES DON'T DO THAT, THE LIGHT NEVER INDICATED THAT THE AIRBAG IS SHUT OFF AND THAT MEANS THAT THE AIRBAG IS STILL ACTIVE. SO IN OTHER WORDS IF WE GET HIT, EVEN THOUGH NOBODY IS IN THE SEAT, OUR PASSENGER AIRBAGS ARE GOING OFF. IVE SPOKEN TO SEVERAL PEOPLE REGARDING THIS AND EVEN SUBMITTED PHOTOS. FINALLY, THEY CALLED ME REGARDING ALTERNATE TRANSPORTATION ON 8/15 BUT TODAY, 8/16, MY CASE MANAGER YVONNE, STATED THAT I WAS DENIED ALTERNATE TRANSPORTATION. I LOVE THAT HONDA THINKS THIS IS A GAME. THEY ARE IMPLYING THAT AN AIRBAG RECALL ON THE PASSENGER SIDE IS NOT AS HAZARDOUS AS ONE ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE, AND ALSO THAT A REASONABLE SOLUTION IS TO JUST NOT USE THE PASSENGER SEAT. THIS IS NOT AN ACCEPTABLE RESPONSE, AND IT HAS LEFT MY FAMILY IN DANGER UNTIL THE REPAIRS CAN BE MADE, WHENEVER THAT WILL BE. NO ESTIMATED TIME LINE HAS BEEN GIVEN.

I HAVE PICTURES OF THE CAR AND THE LATERAL ACCELEROMETER ON THE RIGHT FRONT IS HANGING. THIS SYSTEM WAS FULLY OPERATIONAL, AND HAD NO CODES STORED IN THE SDM NOR ANY LIGHTS ON THE DASH. 6/2013 CAR ACCIDENT I HIT A PARKED CAR TRAVELING AT APPROXIMATELY 20-25 MILES PER HOUR. THE AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. THE COMPANY CHOSEN TO DO THE WORK (CUSTOM INNOVATIONS IN EUGENE, OREGON) DID NOT REPAIR THE MOTOR MOUNTS. WHICH IM VERY UPSET ABOUT AND TRYING TO DEAL WITH. AFTER HAVING THE WORK DONE THE CAR WAS TAKEN TO HONDA (KENDALL HONDA ALSO IN EUGENE, OREGON) TO HAVE AN ASSESSMENT OF MY CAR DIAGNOSED. THE WAS THE MOTOR MOUNT ISSUE AND OTHER ITEMS OIL CHANGE, TRANSMISSION FLUSH AND THE SRS LIGHT WAS ON. HONDA SERVICE DEPT. COULD NOT DIAGNOSE THE SRS AND SAID THEY WOULD GET BACK TO ME. THEY NEVER DID. APPROX 1MO. DIAGNOSIS AT HONDA, I WAS SITTING IN A PARK PARKING LOT CHARGING MY PHONE IN THE CAR WITH IT IN THE ACCESSORY POSITION. I HAD BEEN THERE ABOUT 10 MINUTES WHEN ALL OF A SUDDEN THE DRIVERS SIDE AIRBAG IN THE SEAT AND THE REAR DRIVERS SIDE CURTAIN AIR BAG DEPLOYED. SCARED THE CRAP OUT OF ME AND MY DOG. I SUFFERED MINOR CUTS, ABRASIONS AND SEVERE BRUISING TO MY LEFT ELBOW AND TRICEP. I IMMEDIATELY WENT TO HONDA. IT WAS A SUNDAY SO ONLY THE SALES TEAM WAS THERE. AFTERWARDS, THEY DIDN'T HAVE MUCH TO TELL ME EXCEPT THAT IT WOULD COST ME THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS TO REPAIR AND NO THEY DIDN'T HAVE AN ANSWER FOR WHY THE AIRBAGS WENT OFF. I WENT TO YET ANOTHER DEALERSHIP WHO COULD NOT TELL ME ANYTHING SUBSTANTIAL ABOUT THE PROBLEM BECAUSE THE LIGHT WAS OFF WHEN I BROUGHT THE CAR IN. AROUND MID-JUNE, THE SRS LIGHT STARTED COMING AND STAYING ON. I CALLED HONDA THIS MORNING TO SEE IF THERE WAS ANY RECALL AND WAS TOLD THAT THERE WAS NO RECALL RELATED TO THIS ISSUE AND THAT I CANNOT BE HELPED. I AM TAKING MY CAR IN AGAIN TO SEE WHAT THE PROBLEM IS, SO THAT AT LEAST I CAN PINPOINT THE ISSUE. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE IN THAT IT APPEARS THAT WITH THIS LIGHT ON, MY AIRBAG SYSTEM IS DISABLED. I BROUGHT IT TO ANOTHER HONDA DEALERSHIP, WHERE IS STILL SITTING, BECAUSE I AM IN A CATCH 22. HONDA CLAIMS THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE AIRBAG SENSORS; THEY ARE NOT DEFECTIVE. I SINCE THEN HAVE HAD TO PAY $1500.00 TO COVER THE REPAIR. I FEEL AS IF THIS SHOULD HAVE BEEN COVERED THROUGH AMERICAN HONDA AS A SAFETY ISSUE DEFECT. THE DEALER STATED CODE F311 INDICATED LEFT SIDE DEPLOYMENT AND THE VEHICLE DOESN'T APPEAR TO HAVE ANY BODY DAMAGE. THE DEALER ALSO STATED THAT THERE WAS NO WARRANTY FOR THE FAILURE AND TO REQUEST ASSISTANCE FROM THE INSURANCE COMPANY. THE VEHICLE IS CURRENTLY AT THE REPAIR SHOP. THE INSURANCE COMPANY AGREED TO ASSIST HER WITH THE REPAIRS. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 21985 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 25000. RK

I BOUGHT MY 2006 HONDA CIVIC EX COUPE BRAND NEW IN NOVEMBER 2005, PROBLEMS STARTED TO OCCUR SHORTLY AFTERWARDS FOR INSTANCE THE AIRBAG LIGHT HAD A MALFUNCTION AND RECALLED THE DEALER DIDN'T FIX IT THE FIRST TIME, VERY INCONVENIENT, BRAKE PEDAL WAS FIXED BEFORE I BOUGHT THE VEHICLE, THERE WAS A RECALL ON THAT AS WELL BECAUSE COULD FALL OFF AND CAUSE A CRASH. I HAVE TAKEN IT IN TO HONDA SERVICE TO GET PROBLEMS FIXED AND NUMEROUS TIMES, BEEN TOLD THAT ITS NORMAL OR SOME OTHER ?!@#$% THEY ALWAYS GAVE ME THE RUN AROUND,THE SERVICE PEOPLE ARE RUDE, MEAN AND INCOMPETENT AND IGNORANT. I HAVE TAKEN MY 06 CIVIC IN A TOTAL OF 8-10 TIMES NOW TO FIX PROBLEMS THEY NEVER FIX ANYTHING! INTERIOR TRIM IS POOR/POOR ALTERING FROM THE FACTORY, PANELS LOOSE AND POPPING OUT INTERIOR SCRATCHES TOO EASILY/FRAGILE CHEAPLY MADE ?!@#$% (STILL), FRONT DRIVERS SEAT WONT RETRACT ALL THE WAY BACK ANYMORE LIKE IT USED TO (NEW) WEATHER STRIPPING IS LIFTING UP BY FRONT WINDSHIELD (STILL) VARIOUS RATTLES FROM INTERIOR (STILL), UNDERCOATING/UNDER BODY SPRAY FROM FACTORY IS PEELING COMPLETELY OFF (NEW) DOOR PANEL FLEXES AND RPMS RISE WHEN USING WINDOWS/NOW SEEMS TO ROLL UP/DOWN SLOWER THAN BEFORE (STILL/NEW) KEEP IN MIND IM ONLY AT 11,000 MILES TOO! HONDA AND TOYOTAS QUALITY IS GOING DOWNHILL VERY FAST ESPECIALLY WITH THE CIVIC, CRV, RDX, MDX, CAMRY, TUNDRA, HIGHLANDER, LANDCRUISER, YARIS, AND RAV4. THE LAST YEAR BEFORE THE REDESIGN OF THESE VEHICLES THE QUALITY WAS GREAT, NOW IT SEEMS LIKE HONDA AND TOYOTA ARE EITHER TEAMING UP TOGETHER OR COMPETING TO SEE WHO CAN MAKE THE CHEAPEST AND ?!@#$% VEHICLE WITH CHEAPLY MADE MATERIALS AND TAKING SHORTCUTS, CHANGED A SUPPLIERS OR SOMETHING, THESE PROBLEMS ARE UNACCEPTABLE FOR A NEW VEHICLE. *TR
I WAS PULLING AWAY FROM THE CURB IN FRONT OF MY HOUSE. AFTER MOVING ABOUT 1.5 FEET, THE PASSENGER SIDE AIR BAG DEPLOYED BREAKING THE FRONT WINDSHIELD. ABOUT 10 SECONDS LATER, THE DRIVER SIDE AIRBAG DEPLOYED. THE SEQUENCE REPEATED ABOUT EVERY 10 SECONDS WITH THE DEPLOYMENT OF BOTH SIDE CURTAIN AIR BAGS. FINALLY, AFTER ABOUT A 2 MINUTE PAUSE, THE AIRBAG CONTAINED IN THE REAR OF THE PASSENGER SEAT DEPLOYED. THE AIRBAG CONTAINED WITHIN THE BACK OF THE DRIVER'S SEAT DID NOT DEPLOY. *TR

TL*- THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING HER 2006 HONDA CIVIC AT 40 MPH, SHE TRIED TO APPLY THE BRAKES BUT COULD NOT GET TO THE VEHICLE TO BRAKE ON TIME BEFORE IT COLLIDED WITH THE REAR END OF ANOTHER VEHICLE. AT THE TIME OF THE COLLISION THE CONTACT AND PASSENGER WERE WEARING SEATBELTS, AND THE DAMAGED WAS IN THE FRONT END OF THE VEHICLE. THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY AND THE VEHICLE WAS NOT WAS TOWED. THE DRIVER SUFFERED INJURIES ON HER NECK AND WAS EXPERIENCING CHEST PAIN AND HAD TO BE TAKEN IN AN AMBULANCE, THE PASSENGER DID NOT NEED MEDICAL ATTENTION OF THE TIME OF THE INCIDENT, BUT SINCE THE INCIDENT HAS BEEN EXPERIENCING SORENESS. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 18,000 MILES. THE CONTACT CAN PROVIDE POLICE REPORT IF NEEDED.

I OWN A 2006 HONDA CIVIC. THIS CAR IS EQUIPTED WITH A COMPLEX WEIGHT SENSOR SYSTEM WHICH ARMS/DISARMS THE PASSENGER SIDE AIR BAGS. WHEN THE CAR LEFT THE FACTORY THE SYSTEM WAS DEFECTIVE. AFTER ONE ROUND OF RECALL WORK, THE SYSTEM WAS STILL DEFFECTIVE. I DO NOT BELEIVE THE COMPANY HAS ANY CLEAR IDEA HOW TO MAKE THIS COMPLEX SYSTEM FUNCTION IN A RELIABLE MANNER. I WANT THEM TO FIX THE SYSTEM SO THAT THE AIR BAGS ARE ARMED ALL THE TIME. HONDA REFUSES TO ALLOW THIS TO BE DONE. MY PASSENGER'S SAFETY IS BEING COMPROMISED BECAUSE THEY REFUSE TO TURN ON THE ARIR BAGS ALL THE TIME.

THE CAR IS A NEW HONDA CIVIC LX WITH LESS THAN 650 MILES ON THE ODOMETER. WHEN I AM A PASSENGER IN THE FRONT SEAT, THE AIRBAG SYSTEM WARNING INDICATOR LIGHT COMES ON. WE TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AT 400+ MILES AND WAS TOLD IT WAS CAUSED BY ELECTRONIC INSTRUMENT INTERFERENCE - POSSIBLY A CELL PHONE. THE FAULT CODE WAS CLEARED AND THE LIGHT WENT OUT. HOWEVER, THE PROBLEM REMAINS - ONLY WHEN I AM A PASSENGER IN THE FRONT SEAT THE AIRBAG WARNING LIGHT TURNS ON. I AM A 6'3" MAIL AND WEIGH 300 LBS. SMALLER, LIGHTER PEOPLE DO NOT SEEM TO CAUSE THE WARNING LIGHT TO REGISTER. I STRONGLY SUSPECT THERE IS A MANUFACTURING DEFECT WITH AN AIRBAG SENSOR IN THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT.
