The contact pulled over to the side of the road and turned off the engine. After the vehicle was restarted, the air bag warning light was no longer illuminated. The contact stated that the air bag warning light was intermittently illuminated. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The contact stated that while in the right land, making a right turn, a bicyclist was coming towards the front passenger side of the vehicle however, to avoid injuring the bicyclist, the contact merged over the lane divider and hit the ground with force. The contact then stated that all the driver’s side air bags failed to properly deploy. The contact stated that the steering wheel cracked, and air bag inflator deployed from the steering wheel and the airbag deflated. As a result, the contact sustained injury to the chest and her lower back. Medical attention was required. A police report was filed. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The vehicle was towed to the contacts residence then towed to a tow lot and deemed a total loss by the insurance. The dealer nor the manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 103,000.

I got into an accident and my air bags never deployed.
Air bags: passive restraint system items and devices that protect occupants in a crash such as front, side, side curtain air bag light stayed on after taken to a recall devices that may present a safety hazard. Body: Windshield panel flew away ,failure or detachment body and frame components flew away all body pain pilled away with no reason, and other structural components like inside of car sieling cover pilling off like that may present a safety hazard. Steering: devices and systems used to control vehicle direction to the driver's intent such steering rack/box leaking, hydraulic power steering pumps problem like alot noise and hoses leaking that may present a safety hazard.
I believe the airbags should have deployed. Maybe its a sensor thing as well because a while back my side airbag light would go on and off but it stopped. Anyway the ending of the crash, I lost control and smacked into a rail head on. Also causing my face to smash into the wheel busting my lip. Required stitches. Everyone. The tow people and police report thought it was undrivable. Because the frame was bent on the hood. My bumper was hanging on to the screws on the front so both sides were dragging. Radiator bent in half because that metal bar, behind the front bumper, bent into it.

I accidently hit a curb on a dark road making a right turn after a stop and 1 second later side curtain airbags deployed. So I was less than 5mph There is no exterior damaged just hit the curb with the rear right wheel. Tire is perfectly fine. This should be a safety concern because airbags can cause serius injuries. They are too sensitive.
On March 4th, 2019 I totaled my car during rush hour on I-44 Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. I hit the back of an F-150 pickup which resulted in totaling my car. My front bumper was pushed in and the hood of my car was bent in half. None of my airbags activated. My car was towed to Service King located in Moore, Oklahoma where the damage was assessed and reported to State Farm Auto the car was totaled. I didn't know where to report the airbags until I saw a story on our local news about NHTSA to investigate 30 million vehicles for defective air bag inflators. That is the purpose of this message. Several months before my accident, I took my car into Eskridge Honda in Oklahoma City due to an airbag recall. They checked and replaced the front passenger airbag saying the rest of the airbags were fine. The Driver Airbag lamp is on and it has been recommended by dealer that the Driver Airbag Inflator needs replacing. Yes it is available for inspection up on request. The Driver Airbag Inflator may fail. Yes the dealer has confirmed that the Driver Airbag Inflator needs replacing. The vehicle and the Driver Airbag Inflator has been inspected by the dealership. Yes, there is a warning lamp on the dash for the Airbag.

HONDA EXTENDED A WARRANTY FOR 2006-2008 CIVICS TO REPLACE DEFECTIVE ENGINE BLOCKS. I HAVE A 2008 CIVIC THAT HAS VERY LOW MILEAGE SO I WAS UNAWARE OF THIS ISSUE UNTIL NOW. THEY WILL NOT HONOR THEIR REPLACEMENT WARRANTY, NOR DID THE DEALERSHIP SAY ANYTHING TO ME WHEN I HAD MY CAR SERVICED THERE SEVERAL TIMES A YEAR SINCE 2015. WHY WOULD THEY NOT SAY SOMETHING? THEY SUPPOSEDLY CHANGED IT AND SHOULD HAVE DONE THE PROPER CHECKS TO MAKE SURE ALL IS WELL BUT IT WAS OBVIOUSLY NOT DONE AS THE CAR ENDED UP LOCKING UP SEATBELTS ON DRIVER AND PASSENGER FROM A MINOR POTHOLE THAT THE CASE MANAGER IS CALLING A COLLISION. I COULDNT BELIEVE HE INSISTED THAT THIS (HITTING A POTHOLE AND AIRBAGS GOING OFF) HAD HAPPENED TO HIM ALREADY TRYING TO MAKE IT SEEM NORMAL. MORE IMPORTANTLY, FROM THE CODES THAT THE SHOP INFORMED ME OF, SEAT SENSOR ON PASSENGER SIDE WAS NO GOOD AND ALTHOUGH NO ONE WAS SITTING ON IT IT LOCKED BELTS AND THE AIRBAGS FAILED TO INFLATE. THEY ARE WITH MY CAR 60 DAYS AND COUNTING.... NEVER HONDA AGAIN.

THE CAR HAS A PROBLEM WITH THE SRS WIRING HARNESS THAT CONTROLS AIRBAG DEPLOYMENT AND DRIVER AND PASSENGER SAFETY. THIS CAUSES THE AIRBAG LIGHT TO COME ON AND PREVENTS PROPER DEPLOYMENT. THE PROBLEM IS EXTREMELY COMMON IN HONDAS, SPECIFICALLY 8TH GENERATION CARS. THE CAUSE IS A POORLY MADE WIRE THAT GETS CAUGHT IN THE PASSENGER SEAT TRACK, CAUSING A SHORT IN THE WIRE. IT CAN ONLY BE REPAIRED PROPERLY AND SAFELY BY REMOVING THE ENTIRE WIRING HARNESS AND REPLACING IT. THIS REQUIRES THAT THE CARPETING AND THE DASHBOARD BE REMOVED AND TAKES 6-8 HOURS WORTH OF WORK, AND IS REPLACED WITH A $200-400 PART DEPENDING ON WHERE YOU TAKE IT. IT CANNOT BE FIXED EASILY OR AFFORDABLY BY THE CONSUMER, AND PREVENTS THE CAR FROM BEING SAFE TO DRIVE OR PASSING INSPECTIONS IN THE STATE OF VIRGINIA. THE PROBLEM MAY HAVE OCCURRED SOONER, AS THE VEHICLE WAS ONLY PURCHASED USED A FEW MONTHS AGO. IT HAPPENS IN MOST HONDAS AND IS NOT COVERED BY THE MANUFACTURER'S 150,000 MILE WARRANTY ON OTHER PARTS DESPITE HAVING RELEASED A TSB TO ALL DEALERSHIPS BECAUSE THE PROBLEM IS SO COMMON. IT PRESENTS A DANGER TO DRIVERS AND DESERVES TO HAVE A RECALL ISSUED.

ON MARCH 15, 2018 I WAS TRAVELING NORTHBOUND I-294 WHEN MY VEHICLE COLLIDED WITH A POTHOLE AT APPROX. 65 MPH AND THE DRIVER CURTAIN AND DRIVER SEAT AIRBAG DEPLOYED. THE IMPACT WASN'T HARD ENOUGH TO DAMAGE MY WHEEL OR BODY OF THE CAR. THE POTHOLE SHOULD NOT OF INTERRUPTED THE SRS SYSTEM. THIS IS A RESULT OF A DEFECT IN HONDA'S AIR BAG/RESTRAINT SYSTEM.

I HAVE HAD TO HAVE THE SUN VISOR/AIRBAGS ON MY 2008 HONDA CIVIC REPLACED 3 TIMES BECAUSE SOMETHING KEEPS POPPING IN THEM. HONDA REPLACED THE FIRST 3 TIMES UNDER WARRANTY. THE FOURTH TIME IT POPPED, HONDA SAID THAT THEY WERE OUT OF WARRANTY AND THEY WOULD NOT REPLACE THEM FOR FREE. I FEEL HONDA SHOULD STILL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE REPLACEMENTS, AS THEY KEEP REPLACING THE SUN VISORS WITH THE SAME OLD CRAPPY ONES THAT BREAK WITHIN 2 YEARS. HOPEFULLY, WE CAN GET HONDA TO TAKE THE RESPONSIBILITY FOR KNOWINGLY REPLACING THE PARTS, WITH PARTS THEY KNOW ARE DEFECTIVE.

CALLED DEALER AND AFTER A BIT OF "PHONE TAG" AND THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT STRUGGLING TO FIND MY VIN, INFO, ETC. I WAS TOLD THE PARTS WERE ALREADY ON ORDER AND I WOULD BE CONTACTED WHEN THEY WERE IN. THE RECALL LETTER STATES 'IN THE EVENT OF A PASSENGER FRONTAL AIRBAG INFLATOR RUPTURE, METAL FRAGMENTS COULD PASS THROUGH THE AIRBAG CUSHION MATERIAL, POTENTIALLY RESULTING IN INJURY TO VEHICLE OCCUPANTS. THE RISK OF SUCH OCCURRENCE INCREASES OVER TIME.' IT HAS NOW BEEN A YEAR SINCE I REPORTED THE RECALL AND HAVE YET TO BE CONTACTED TO HAVE IT FIXED. I'VE RECEIVED A SECOND NOTICE IN THE MAIL IN APRIL 2017 REGARDING MY AIR BAG RECALL. THIS NOTICE SAYS THAT IF THE HONDA DEALER HAS FAILED OR UNABLE TO REMEDY THE DEFECT IN MY VEHICLE WITHOUT CHARGE WITHIN A REASONABLE PERIOD OF TIME (60 DAYS) I CAN FILE A COMPLAINT. IT'S APPROACHING NEARLY A YEAR SINCE I WAS FIRST CONTACTED AND I TRIED TO MAKE AN APPOINTMENT THREE TIMES WITH MY LOCAL HONDA DEALERSHIP TO HAVE THIS AIR BAG REPLACED. NO OTHER VEHICLES WERE INVOLVED IN THE INCIDENT, NOR DID DRIVER HIT OR RUN INTO ANY OBJECT ON THE ROAD. WEATHER CONDITIONS WERE ABOUT 35-40 DEGREES, PARTLY SUNNY SKIES. VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL HONDA DEALER, WHO STATED THE COMPUTER SYSTEM SHOWS IMPACT CONDITIONS CAUSED THE DRIVERS SIDE AIRBAG SENSORS TO FIRE THE AIRBAG. AFTER REPORTING THE INCIDENT TO MY INSURANCE COMPANY, THE INSURANCE ADJUSTER INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AT THE HONDA DEALER, REPORTING THE ISSUE AS "ELECTRONIC FAILURE". THE ADJUSTER'S REPORT ALSO STATES THERE WAS NO IMPACT THAT CAUSED THE AIRBAG TO DEPLOY. THERE IS A RECALL FOR THE PASSENGER AIRBAG INFLATOR (NHTSA RECALL # 16V-346), WHICH WAS REPLACED AT NO COST. HOWEVER, THE DRIVERS AIRBAG INFLATOR IS NOT COVERED (ESTIMATE OF REPAIR APPROX. $3,200). IF THE DRIVER WERE 5 MORE MINUTES DOWN THE ROAD, DRIVER WOULD HAVE BEEN ON A 45 MPH ROAD. IF ANYONE ELSE HAS HAD AN ISSUE WITH THE DRIVERS SIDE AIRBAG, PLEASE INFORM THE NHTSA.

LAST WEEK I HEARD A NEWS STORY ON TELEVISION AND THEN SAW AN ARTICLE IN THE L.A. TIMES WHICH STATED THAT NHTSA IS NOW INVESTIGATING THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM IN 2008 HONDA ACCORDS. NHTSA HAS RECEIVED 19 COMPLAINTS, INCLUDING A CONSUMER WHO WAS IN A 50 MPH ACCIDENT WHERE THE AIRBAG DID NOT DEPLOY. THE ARTICLE STATES THAT THIS IS THOUGHT TO BE A DEFECT WITH THE "AIR BAG CONTROL COMPUTER MODEL". THE DEFECT CAUSES THE AIR BAG STATUS INDICATOR LAMP TO ILLUMINATE AND THE AIR BAG SYSTEM IS DISABLED UNTIL IT IS REPAIRED. THE ESTIMATED COST TO REPLACE THE ACCORD UNIT IT $ 455. MY SON WAS DRIVING MY 2008 HONDA CIVIC TO COLLEGE ON HIGHWAY 44 HEADING WEST AT APPROXIMATELY 2:10 PM TOWARD JOPLIN MO. WHILE DRIVING WEST ON 44, THE DRIVER SIDE AIRBAG SUDDENLY DEPLOYED. HE WAS SHOCKED AND OVER WHELMED THAT THIS OCCURRED BECAUSE HE DID NOT HIT ANYTHING. A HELPFUL PERSON STOPPED AND HELPED REMOVE THE DEPLOYED AIRBAG. SOON AFTERWARD, STATE POLICE ARRIVED AFTER ANOTHER MOTORIST CALLED AND CONFIRMED NO DAMAGE OCCURRED TO THE CAR TO WARRANT DEPLOYMENT OF AN AIRBAG. MY SON THEN CONTINUED ON TO JOPLIN. THE FOLLOWING DAY, MY SON TOOK THE CAR TO THE HONDA DEALERSHIP IN JOPLIN. AFTER INSPECTION, THE DEALERSHIP CLAIMED THAT A SMALL HOLE IN THE FRONT FENDER CAUSE THE AIRBAG TO DEPLOY...THEY FOUND GRASS AND DEBRIS FROM THE HIGHWAY MEDIAN AROUND THE DAMAGED AREA. THEY WERE VERY UNCOOPERATIVE AND MORE WILLING TO BLAME THE CAUSE ON MY SON RATHER THAN A DEFECTIVE AIRBAG SYSTEM THAT IS KNOWN TO BE A PROBLEM IN SEVERAL OTHER MODELS. MY LOCAL REPAIR SHOP, PLAYA WEST AUTOMOTIVE (310-822-9115) INVESTIGATED & RECEIVED A "32-10" OPEN CIRCUIT INDICATION FOR THE PASSENGER SIDE AIR BAG, SHOWING THAT THE PASSENGER SIDE AIR BAG DEPLOYMENT SYSTEM WAS DE-ACTIVATED. THIS EXPLAINS THE LIGHT COMING "ON". THEIR INVESTIGATION FOUND A FRAYED WIRING HARNESS UNDER THE PASSENGER SEAT. THE SHOP CALLED THE LOCAL HONDA DEALER & WAS TOLD THAT THERE WAS A REPAIR ADVISORY ABOUT THIS ISSUE, BUT THE HONDA DEALER REFUSED TO DO ANY REPAIR TO FIX IT B/C THE CAR IS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY. THIS REPAIR IS GOING TO COST ME OVER $700 FOR PARTS & LABOR B/C THE PASSENGER SEAT HAS TO BE REMOVED TO ACCESS THE WIRING. I IMMEDIATELY HAD TO HAVE TO ROTORS RESURFACED WHEN I TOOK DELIVERY OF THE VEHICLE...AS I WAS DRIVING HOME, I COULD FEEL THE BRAKES PULSATING WHEN I APPLIED THE BRAKES. I RETURNED TO THE DEALER AND THEY HAD TO RESURFACE THE ROTORS THEN. AFTER THAT, THE FIRST PROBLEM I HAD WAS WITH THE REAR WHEEL BEARINGS AND THE LEFT REAR BRAKES (PADS, CALIPER, ROTOR). AT APPROXIMATELY 18K BOTH REAR WHEEL BEARINGS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED, THE LEFT REAR CALIPER WAS FROZEN, THE PADS WERE WORN DUE TO THAT AND THE ROTOR NEEDED TO BE RESURFACED. THERE WAS NO DEPLOYMENT. THE AIR BAG WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL AND REMAINED LIT UNTIL THE ENGINE WAS TURNED OFF. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER FOR INSPECTION AND THEY STATED THAT THE AIR BAGS WERE EXPELLING FROM THE HEAD LINER. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 5,500 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 7,256.
