THIS IS THE THIRD TIME MY PASSENGER SIDE MOTOR MOUNT HAS COMPLETELY BROKEN OFF!!
BOUGHT THE CAR 2 DAYS AGO. DID TEST DRIVE IT WITH NO NOTABLE ISSUES. I DID NOT TAKE IT ON THE HIGHWAY BECAUSE I WAS NOT FAMILIAR WITH THE AREA AND THE SALESMAN INSISTED NOT TO GO ON THE HIGHWAY DUE TO ROAD CONSTRUCTION OUTSIDE THE DEALERSHIP. SO ON THE WAY HOME I DID TAKE THE HIGHWAY FROM THE DEALERSHIP FOLLOWING MY HUSBAND OUT OF THE AREA UNTIL I GOT TO FAMILIAR TERRITORY. THEN HE GOT BEHIND ME. WELL WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY I FELT THE CAR SWAYING SIDE TO SIDE HAVING TROUBLE STAYING BETWEEN THE LINES. DIDN'T FEEL RIGHT AND WHEN I WOULD HIT A BUMP THE BACK END OF THE CAR MOVED ALL OVER THE PLACE. WELL WHEN MY HUSBAND AND I GOT HOME I MENTIONED IT TO HIM AND HE SAID WHEN HE WAS BEHIND ME HE NOTICED THE RIGHT BACK OF THE CAR WAS BOUNCING UP AND DOWN. WITH THAT SAID I HAVE A 16 MONTH OLD GRANDSON THAT I INTEND TO HAVE IN MY CAR ON OCCASION AND IT'S SCARY TO THINK THAT MY CAR MAY NOT BE SAFE FOR THE ROAD AND/OR PUT MYSELF OR SOMEONE ELSE IN DANGER. THE SALESMAN SHOWED ME THE CARFAX REPORT AND SERVICES THAT WERE DONE ON THE CAR. BUT DID NOT DISCLOSED ANYTHING OF WHAT I AM EXPERIENCING WITH THE VEHICLE

LIKE MANY OF THE TIRE WEAR COMPLAINTS FOR THIS VEHICLE, REAR TIRES DEVELOPED IRREGULAR FLAT SPOTS, AND REAR TIRES WERE VERY NOISY. TALKED WITH KEN IN TORRANCE, CA (AMERICAN HONDA) BUT HONDA REFUSED TO ACCEPT ANY RESPONSIBILITY. AFTER TWO SETS OF TIRES IN 33,000 MILES, KEN AGREED TO PAY 50% OF NEXT TIRE PURCHASE. IF THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE VEHICLE, THEN WHY WOULD KEN AGREE TO PAY HALF OF NEXT TIRE PURCHASE?
ONE OF THE CONTROL ARMS, I BELIEVE IT IS CALLED, WENT BAD AND CRACKED. THE FRONT ONES WENT BAD AND HAD TO BE REPLACED, BUT WERE UNDER WARRANTY. THESE WOULD BE THE ARMS THAT CONNECT AND HOLD THE TIRES/BRAKES BUT NOT THE SUSPENSION. I MAY HAVE REFERRED TO THEM WRONG, BUT THEY WENT BAD NONETHELESS.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 HONDA CIVIC. WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED AND THE VEHICLE MADE AN ABNORMAL NOISE. THE FAILURE RECURRED NUMEROUS TIMES. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE AIR BAG WARNING INDICATOR ALSO ILLUMINATED CONTINUOUSLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE COMPLIANCE BUSHING FRACTURED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 73,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.

GEOMETRY PROBLEM ON SUSPENSION CAUSES EXCESSIVE UNEVEN TIRE WEAR. THE DRIVER MAY BE UNAWARE OF THIS DAMAGE BECAUSE THE OUTSIDE OF ALL THE TIRES APPEAR FINE. IF NO CLOSE INSPECTION OF THE INSIDE TREAD OF THE TIRE IS DONE, DANGEROUS CONDITIONS CAN BE OVERLOOKED. THIS PUTS THE PASSENGERS OF THIS CAR AND ANYONE AROUND IT IN DANGER. A MECHANIC AT THE LOCAL FIRESTONE STORE SUGGESTED THAT THE REAR WHEEL TOE-IN BE SET @ 0 DEGREES INSTEAD OF THE STATED FACTORY SPECS, BUT HONDA HAS ALREADY RECALLED MY 2006 CIVIC LX AND FIXED THE REAR SUSPENSION UPPER CONTROL ARMS IN A RECALL (ITS REAR TIRES HAVE WORN OUT PREMATURELY, ALSO, BUT THIS PARTICULAR RECALL DID NOT COVER MY 2008 CIVIC, WHICH SEEMS TO HAVE A WORSE CASE OF THE SAME PROBLEM). THE FIRST TIME I WAS TOLD THE REAR SHOCKS WERE THE CAUSE (@55-60K MILES). THE SHOCKS AND TIRES WERE REPLACE AND THE SAME EXACT PROBLEM HAS OCCURRED AGAIN! 90%+ OF MY DRIVING IS DONE ON THE HIGHWAY AND NOT POORLY MAINTAINED BACK ROADS. IT IS VERY CLEAR THAT THERE IS AN ISSUE WITH THE REAR SUSPENSION ON THESE VEHICLES THAT HONDA NEEDS TO BE FORCED TO ACKNOWLEDGE AND ADDRESS. *TR
THE REAR TIRE WORE OUT FAST, THEY WERE CUPPING AND VIBRATING AND NOISY/THUMPING STARTING AROUND 25,000 MILES. AT 30,000 MILES I COULD NOT WAIT ANYMORE. I BOUGHT 2 NEW TIRES FOR THE BACK, THE FRONT TIRES WERE STILL OK. THEN I TOOK IT TO ROUND ROCK HONDA FOR ALIGNMENT. EVERYTHING WAS GOOD THEN, I HAD THE NEW TIRES AT THE FRONT. AFTER ANOTHER 20K MILES, I REPLACED THE 2 OLD TIRES WITH NEW ONES. I KEPT BALANCING AND ROTATING THE TIRES. BUT AT AROUND 70K MILES THE REAR TIRES STARTED TO WEAR OUT AGAIN. I ROTATE AND BALANCED THE TIRES. NOW AT 88K MILES, THE CAR STARTS TO VIBRATE AND NOISY AGAIN AT 65MPH. THE TIRES WERE SUPPOSED TO BE GOOD FOR 60-70K, BUT THE UNEVEN WEAR SHOWING UP AROUND 30K . I CHECKED W/ DISCOUNT TIRE, THEY CLAIM CIVIC HAS PROBLEMS W/ TIRE WEAR. SO I CHECKED ON INTERNET, FOUND THE ISSUE ABOUT HONDA CIVIC PREMATURE TIRE WEAR. I WENT TO ROUND ROCK HONDA, BUT THEY WON'T REPLACE NEW CONTROL REAR ARMS AND DO ALIGNMENT FOR FREE. I HAVE TO PAY AROUND $450.00. I FILED THIS COMPLAIN FIRST. I'M PLANNING TO REPLACE THE OLD TWO TIRES AGAIN FOR NOW. THE LOOK FOR HONDA TO REPLACE NEW CONTROL REAR ARMS AND DO ALIGNMENT FOR FREE. I CALLED ANOTHER HONDA DEALER TO VERIFY, THEY ARE CLAIMING THERE IS NO ISSUE W/ 2008 CIVIC LX SEDAN, WHICH IS NOT LISTED IN THE TSB 08-001 (2006 AND 2007 ONLY). SO I GUESS THERE IS NOT ENOUGH COMPLAINS ABOUT THIS TIRE WEARING FAST ISSUE YET. IF HONDA KEEPS PLAYING DUMB, MY LAST RESORT WOULD PROBABLY BE SELLING THIS CIVIC AND CONSIDER BUYING A TOYOTA INSTEAD OF A HONDA. *TR

UPON INSPECTION, IT WAS FOUND THAT THE TWO REAR TIRES ON THE VEHICLE HAD PREMATURELY WORN. THE REAR TIRES WERE REPLACED PREVIOUSLY BY AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. SIX MONTHS LATER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE PROBLEM. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 50,000.

THIS VEHICLE WAS HAVING A CONTINUOUS ROARING NOISE FROM THE REAR WHEN THE VEHICLE IS BEING DRIVEN. TOOK TO PROCTOR HONDA OF TALLAHASSEE AND MENTIONED THE PROBLEM. HONDA DEALER NOTICED THE REAR TIRES WERE BEGINNING TO CUP AND ROTATED TIRES TO ADDRESS SOUND ISSUE AND BLAMED THE TIRES AS THE MALFUNCTIONING PART BY RECOMMENDING A TIRE REPLACEMENT. AT THAT TIME THE TIRE TOYO SPECTRUMS WERE ONLY 1 YEAR AND 9 MONTHS OLD HAVING BEING INSTALLED ON 3/2009 , HAD A 65K TREAD LIFE WARRANTY. THE 2006 AND 2007 MODELS OF HONDA CIVIC HAD TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETINS ISSUED REGARDING THE REAR UPPER CONTROL ARMS CAUSING UNEVEN WEAR OF REAR TIRES (CUPPING) SERVICE BULLETIN NUMBER : 08-001DATE OF BULLETIN : FEB 08, 2008 ,NHTSA ITEM NUMBER : 10024687. THIS HONDA WAS PURCHASED ON 11/2007 AND WAS OBVIOUSLY MANUFACTURED DURING THE 2007 YEAR. THE PROCTOR HONDA MECHANICS BELIEVE THAT THE REAR UPPER CONTROL ARMS HAVE ALREADY BEEN REPLACED ON THIS VEHICLE BUT I HAVE NO DOCUMENTATION REVEALING A DATE ANY SUCH WORK WAS DONE. I HAVE CONTACTED THE PREVIOUS DEALER HENNESSEY HONDA AND THE PREVIOUS OWNER AND NEITHER HAVE HAD THESE UPPER CONTROL ARMS REPLACED. NOW IN MAY 2012 THESE TIRES THAT WERE ROTATED WITH THE TIRES ON THE VEHICLE THAT WERE NOT CUPPING IN 2010 ARE NOW SEVERELY CUPPED ( HIGH /LOW AREAS) WHILE THE FRONT TIRES ARE NOT CUPPED AT ALL FROM MY INSPECTION. SEEMS ISOLATED TO THE REAR OF VEHICLE. THE REAR CUPPING OCCURS PRIMARILY ON THE INSIDE PART OF THE TIRE NEAREST TO THE VEHICLE BUT IT IS SEVERE. THIS VEHICLE HAS ALREADY HAD THE LOWER ENGINE BLOCK REPLACED DUE TO CRACKING COOLANT PASSAGES WHICH I MIGHT EMPHASIZE THAT THE 2007 HONDA CIVIC ALSO HAS ISSUES WITH. THIS IS MY MOM'S VEHICLE AND I WANT HER TO BE SAFE DRIVING THIS AND DO NOT WANT TO KEEP BUYING NEW TIRES ( OF A DIFFERENT BRAND) ONLY TO HAVE THEM PREMATURELY WORN AND CUPPING OF TIRES CAUSED AS WELL. ABOUT A MILE DOWN THE ROAD I HEARD WHAT SOUNDED LIKE A TIRE POP.WHAT ACTUALLY HAPPENED WAS MY REAR DRIVER SIDE LOWER CONTROL ARM HAD SNAPPED COMPLETELY THROUGH, ABOUT 2 INCHES IN FROM THE BOLT CONNECTING IT TO THE WHEEL ASSEMBLY. HONDA HAS ADMITTED TO HAVING A PROBLEM WITH THEIR 06 AND 07 MODEL REAR CONTROL ARMS NOT BY ISSUING A RECALL BUT A SERVICE BULLETIN BOTH IN JAN. AND FEB. OF 2008. I BELIEVE THERE STILL WAS A PROBLEM IN SEVERAL 2008 MODELS THAT WERE MANUFACTURED IN 2007. I CONTACTED AMERICAN HONDA AND THE REP. THERE SAID THEY WILL NOT DO ANYTHING ABOUT THIS PROBLEM. ALL THE MECHANICS I HAVE TALKED TO HAVE SAID IT WAS A CLEAN SNAP AND THAT THERE WAS NO RUST INVOLVED. I THINK THIS PROBLEM DESERVES TO BE LOOKED AT CLOSER THAN IT SEEMS TO BE. *JS

AT ABOUT 15,000 MILES, WE HAD TO REPLACE THE ORIGINAL 2 REAR TIRES DUE TO UNEVEN WEAR. WE REPLACED THE TIRES AND HAD TO REPLACE THEM AGAIN AT 40,000. NOW, AT 60,000, THE REAR TIRES ARE UNEVENLY WEARING AGAIN SO MUCH SO THAT THE CAR IS NEARLY UNDRIVABLE ON THE HIGHWAY DUE TO THE SHAKING. WE'VE HAD THE ALIGNMENT AND BALANCE CHECKED MULTIPLE TIMES AND NOTHING HAS BEEN OFF AND THE TIRES HAVE BEEN ROTATED AT EVERY OTHER OIL CHANGE.. WE'VE TRIED DIFFERENT BRANDS OF TIRES AND NOTHING SEEMS TO BE HELPING THE PROBLEM. EVERY TIME WE'VE CONTACTED HONDA, THEY'VE INSISTED THE TIRES HAVEN'T BEEN BALANCED CORRECTLY (EVEN THOUGH IT WAS DONE AT THEIR DEALER) OR THAT WE'VE GONE 500 MILES TOO FAR PAST GETTING THEM ROTATED AND THUS WON'T REPLACE THEM. I PURCHASED A 2008 HONDA CIVIC NEW FROM THE DEALER. AT THE PRESENT TIME I AM ON MY SECOND SET OF TIRES AND MY THIRD REAR DRIVER SIDE TIRE. I KEEP THESE TIRES INFLATED PROPERLY AND ROTATE THEM AT 5000 MILES. THE DRIVER SIDE REAR TIRE BEGINS TO CUP AFTER A FEW THOUSAND MILES. I DRIVE IN A REASONABLE MANNER AND AM NOT ABUSIVE TO THE VEHICLE. ON REPLACING THE DRIVER SIDE TIRE MY AUTO REPAIR FACILITY SUGGESTED THAT THEY CHECK THE ALIGNMENT OF THE VEHICLE. THE ALIGNMENT NUMBERS ON THE REAR WERE WAY OUT OF SPECIFICATION AND MY MECHANIC SAID THE NEW TIRE WOULD NOT HAVE LASTED LONG .THIS HAS BEEN A PROBLEM SINCE THE VEHICLE WAS NEW. THIS PREMATURE TIRE WEAR PRESENTS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE ON THESE VEHICLES. MY REPAIR FACILITY ADVISED ME THERE IS A KIT REPAIR FOR THIS PROBLEM. WHY HASN'T HONDA ADDRESSED THIS PROBLEM? *TR

MY WIFE PURCHASED HER HONDA CIVIC BRAND NEW FROM THE DEALER. APPROX. 50,000 WE STARTED TO NOTICE HUMMING AND VIBRATION IN THE FRONT END ALONG WITH EXCESSIVE WEAR ON THE TIRES. SINCE THEN I HAVE REPLACED SEVERAL SETS OF TIRES. HAVE APPROX 75,000 ON THE CAR AND WERE HAVING FRONT END PROBLEMS THAT CANNOT SEEMED TO BE CORRECTED. AT VARIOUS SPEEDS WE GET A PULSATING OR VIBRATION OUT OF THE RIGHT SIDE; AND WE'VE HAD TO HAVE SEVERAL BRAKE JOBS AS A RESULT INCLUDING REPLACING THE ROTOR, CALIPER, ETC. THAT SAME ROARING NOISE IS BACK AND I WENT IN FOR MY ROUTINE CHECK UP AND WAS TOLD THAT MY TIRES NEED TO BE REPLACED AT 61285 MI. DECEMBER 31, 2011. ONE TECH GUY HINTED THAT THERE HAVE BEEN PROBLEMS WITH THE REAR-UPPER CONTROL ARM CAUSING POSSIBLE PROBLEMS WITH CERTAIN CIVICS. IF THIS IS THE CASE, I WANT IT CORRECTED, AND I WANT MY TIRES REPLACED AT NO COST TO ME. HONDA TELLS ME THEY DON'T KNOW WHAT THE PROBLEM IS AND WILL ALLOW ME TO PAY FULL PRICE FOR NEW TIRES WHILE THEY TRY TO GET ME A 50% PRORATED REIMBURSEMENT FROM KUHMO. I AM NOT SATISFIED WITH THIS AT ALL. THIS IS A COSTLY SAFETY ISSUE. THERE HAS BEEN HEAVY RAINFALL IN MY AREA AND MY CAR HYDROPLANES. THE LAST CAR I OWNED THAT SHOWED SIGNS OF REAR TIRE CUPPING WAS MY 1970 FIAT 850 RACER. I REPLACED THE REAR PRODUCTION SHOCKS WITH KONI ADJUSTABLE SHOCKS AND THE CUPPING CEASED. WE ARE EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED WITH HONDA USA REGARDING THIS DEFECT, THE DAMAGE CAUSED, WHAT IT HAS COST US, AND LOVED ONES LIVES PUT IN JEOPARDY! THE CAR BEHIND HER PASSED ALONG SIDE HER AND SIGNALED HER TO PULL THE CAR OVER IMMEDIATELY. SHE PULLED OVER AND GOT OUT TO INSPECT THE VEHICLE, AND SHE FOUND OUT THAT THE AXLE (SUSPENSION SUPPORT) HAD BROKE OFF. THE ONLY THING THAT HELD THE SHAFT FROM FLYING OFF THE ROAD WERE THE BRAKE CABLE AND ELECTRICAL CABLE. THANK GOD, NOTHING HAPPENED TO HER AND MY 10 MONTH OLD SON AND MY SECOND CHILD ON THE WAY. FOLLOWING THIS REPAIR I NOTICED A PRONOUNCE ROAD NOISE INSIDE CAR AT SPEED RANGE FROM 30 TO 55 MPH. A ROARING NOISE FROM THE REAR TIRES STARTED WHILE ON A ROAD TRIP. WHEN I GOT HOME, I TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP TO HAVE IT LOOKED AT. BEFORE I WENT IN, I HAD DONE QUITE A BIT OF RESEARCH ABOUT THIS PROBLEM SO I WAS PRETTY SURE IT WAS THE CONTROL ARM DEFECT THAT MANY OTHER PEOPLE ARE HAVING. I TOOK THE CAR TO THE HONDA DEALERSHIP WHERE PURCHASED AND WHO SAID THE TIRES IN QUESTION WERE WORN AND HAD FLAT PLACES PROBABLY DUE TO SKIDDING (THIS CAR HAS NEVER BEEN 'SKIDDED') AND THAT IF I HAD ISSUES WITH THE TIRES I SHOULD GO TO BRIDGESTONE (THE OEM FOR EL400). I WENT TO FIRESTONE (BRIDGESTONE DEALER) AND WAS TOLD IT WAS THE CAR CAUSING THE PROBLEMS. I WENT BACK TO THE DEALER AND AFTER MUCH DISCUSSION AND GETTING NOWHERE CONVINCED THEM TO CHECK ALIGNMENT AND SUSPENSION. THEY DID AND FOUND THE REAR TIRE ALIGNMENT OFF. THEY ALIGNED THE REAR TIRES (THE FRONT TIRE ALIGNMENT HAD NO ISSUES) AND SENT ME ON MY WAY WITH NO OBLIGATION TO REPLACE THE WORN/DEFECTIVE TIRES. I REPLACED THE TIRES AT MY OWN EXPENSE TO AVOID POTENTIAL HAZARD OF KEEPING THE CAR ON THE ROAD AND FEARFUL FOR SAFETY OF MYSELF, MY FAMILY, AND OTHERS. NEW CAR ' NEW TIRES IN 9 MONTHS ' THIS AIN'T RIGHT. I WAS SHOCKED AT THE FACT THAT THE OEM TIRES HAD NO MILEAGE WARRANTY AND WERE ONLY WARRANTED BY THE TIRE MANUFACTURER FOR DEFECTS. I WAS ALSO CONCERNED WHY THE HONDA DEALERSHIP WOULD NOT PROVIDE SUCH INFORMATION TO THE CONSUMER AT THE TIME OF SALE. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 HONDA CIVIC. THE CONTACT HEARD A LOUD CLUNKING NOISE WHENEVER SHE MADE A LEFT TURN. THE NOISE GREW LOUDER AND BEGAN TO AFFECT THE VEHICLE WHEN MAKING RIGHT TURNS. THE NOISE COULD BE HEARD FROM BOTH THE INTERIOR AND EXTERIOR OF THE VEHICLE. THE DEALER REPLACED THE LEFT FRONT STRUTS AND UPON LEAVING THE DEALER, THE NOISE CONTINUED. THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE; HOWEVER, THEY CALLED THE MANUFACTURER FOR FURTHER ASSISTANCE. THE MANUFACTURER ADVISED THE CONTACT TO CALL A DIFFERENT DEALER. THE SECOND DEALER STATED THAT THE CV SHAFT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 1,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 13,510.

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 HONDA CIVIC. WHILE DRIVING 35 MPH, THE CONTACT HEARD A HOWLING NOISE COMING FROM THE FRONT END OF THE VEHICLE. HE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE TIRE SHOP TO HAVE THE TIRES ROTATED, WHICH DID NOT REMEDY THE ISSUE. THE CONTACT WENT TO THE DEALER AND THEY TEST DROVE THE VEHICLE. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE WHEEL BEARING WAS DEFECTIVE AND FAILED. THE WHEEL BEARING WAS REPLACED ON THE PASSENGER SIDE; HOWEVER, THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE WHEEL BEARING ON THE DRIVER SIDE WAS ALSO DEFECTIVE AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE DEALER ORDERED THE SECOND BEARING FOR THE DRIVER'S SIDE REPAIR. THE MANUFACTURER HAD NOT BEEN NOTIFIED. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 5,900 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 5,700.
