My 2016 Honda Civic has a recurring safety-critical defect that began approximately 2–3 weeks after purchase. While turning (most often left turns), the vehicle suddenly shuts off without warning. When this occurs, the power steering assist locks, brake assist is lost, and the electrical system cuts off and then reboots. This has happened more than 5–6 times and nearly caused collisions. I had to apply extreme brake pressure to avoid hitting another vehicle during one incident. The steering becomes rigid, the dashboard goes dark, and the car restarts on its own while still in motion. Before I purchased the vehicle, a diagnostic inspection was performed and no issues were reported. Since owning the car, it has also been taken to a mechanic multiple times, and no diagnostic code or mechanical explanation for this shutdown issue has ever been identified. The defect appears intermittently and leaves no trace or error codes, making it extremely difficult to detect or repair. This is a serious safety hazard that could cause injury or death. The problem appears to be a latent defect that was present at the time of vehicle sale. I am reporting this so NHTSA can investigate whether this is a known issue with this model or whether other consumers have experienced similar sudden shutdowns.

Odometer Fraud. The contact purchased a 2016 Honda Civic in October 2024. The contact stated that while attempting to trade the vehicle at the dealer, the Carfax Report indicated a mileage discrepancy. The vehicle was a private sale. The contact stated that at the time of purchase, the odometer reading was 109,000; however, the Carfax Report indicated that the mileage was 172,000 in 2023.

I have a 2016 Civic LX, and the steering is sticking when on center when the vehicle has been driving for a while/is warmed up. I have read multiple instances and reports of this issue and the EPS/rack being the culprit even when this car was released 10 years ago. There was never a bulletin or a recall for this model year but it is the same issue for the 2022-2025 model years, and it is frustrating that it is still occurring. It requires more pressure than needed to move the wheel and then it jerks as it comes loose causing need to over correction. This is very unsettling when traveling at highway speeds. I purchased the vehicle in late September of 2024, and I believe the vehicle was doing it then but i did not recognize the issue and it wasn't consistent, especially as temps were cold. The issue has gotten worse, especially as the warm weather is coming around.

My manual key…it wasn’t program. I just found out when my battery died and we won’t able to open the door manually. And when I told the dealer where I bought it, they were charging me to program it. And it cost a lot, so, I didn’t had it done. Then, just two days ago, my car won’t start again. I just got a new battery from AAA. So, I have to call them again and re check it. The battery was fine. So, the AAA employee asked me to call you or email you. Coz prolly I have a recall problem with my car. Honda Civic 2016 Sedan. I always have this problem with the battery and the manual key.

Honda did a software update on my vehicle tied to the recall below. The dealership stated to me that they need to replace the VSA modulator and they are claiming this is not covered since they did the software update a few years ago. I believe they are directly corollated as I don't drive the car much only have 27K miles on the car. They are asking me to the pay for replacing the modulator VSA and are stating that this is not covered under the recall. It's hard for me to beleive how they are unrelated if the software is causing the unit to malfunction and we know the unit needs replacement there is a direct connection. This is costing me $2500. Alarm sounded, went outside with fob to shut off . Still alarm on . Tried to get in car with fob . Had to use key in door to get in . Stepped on brake and pushed start/stop button . Alarm now silent. Push start/stop button to shut off engine and message on dash read Keyless Start System Error. Engine still running. Pushed button again and AC shuts off , engine still running and dash still reading error. Put in driver, then reverse to park and pushed button again and engine shut off finally. Disconnect negative from battery and let sit overnight. Tried to start, but just kept cranking. Disconnect battery again, tried starting again and it started. This time it took me 10 minutes before I could shut off engine. Disconnect battery again and haven’t tried again. I’ve read about other people having the same issues. Most say start/stop switch. Mine is on order, will install asap and see what happens. Fingers crossed.

Car suffers from sticky steering like the other newer civics and it is a very scary issue. My car does not drive straight and as it is getting hotter in Louisiana my car is acting up more. I am constantly swerving to keep it straight. Almost hit car in another lane and I have to fight against the wheel to make it stay straight. There are no warning lights. I have regular maintenance done. It also tried to turn another way when I go from a slow to fast speed, making merging or turning into an interstate feel dangerous. Honda dealership checked it and found “no issues” they just did an alignment and said that was it. Well the sticky steering still exists and is getting worse. Please make a recall I do not feel safe.

I have noticed for a while now. When the light turns green or I'm at a stop and I have enough time to take off the car does not move when I apply the gas. It stalls and that scares me. I have noticed my cruise control shut off the other day when driving on the freeway. And I could not turn it back on. Now when I try to apply the parking bake when I'm parked the parking brake does not turn on nor the brake hold. The lights keep flashing than turn odd My headlight in the front and back passenger don't work. I've switched out the bulbs and it's an electrical problem. I see recalls on some of these matters but honda won't do nothing because it's not on their system when I bought this car in 2016.

The past few weeks I’ve been taking my vehicle for service to the Honda Dealership located in Daphne, Alabama and I’ve been complaining about suspension problems and my main concern is my tie rod end and the dealership refuses to repair, then yesterday when I brought it in for service they charged me for a diagnostics without my permission and I asked for the report and won’t hand it over and today [XXX] they did the diagnostic again and won’t hand over the report then lied and said it’s my Mass airflow sensor and there no check engine light on. For the past for weeks I’ve been wondering why the dealership has been mistreating me and it is because of the Honda manufacture, today I called the Honda manufacturer and ask if I’m listed as the vehicle owner in their systems because my vehicle is a 2016 and I haven’t had any open recall associated with my vin in the 4 years I’ve owned it. The Honda dealership gave me a document for a vin check and I’m not listed as the owner so perhaps the recalls aren’t being inserting into the proper file. I called the manufacturer and asked to speak to a supervisor and the representative refused to do so and I have a recorded conversation that I would like to forward to you once an investigation is opened. I also asked if my vehicle is apart of the national recall on the fuel pump and the manufacturer agent said no. I bought my 2016 Honda Civic and never had issues with it besides the AC unit not working which was resolved because of the recalls and was repaired by my local dealership. Now I am having issues when it comes to accelerating. There is an accelerating delay/ stall when completing a stop and there’s a delay to get the car to move after pressing on the gas pedal or when reversing when getting out of th driveway. The most dangerous event is when I’m driving and i come to a stop to make a right turn and right after ensuring there is no upcoming traffic to make the right turn my car does not accelerate and it’s very scary because I can get hit by another car. There’s times where I’m driving and the car can turn off. I feel like my life and other drivers life’s are at risk. Honda has recalls for fuel pumps for other year/models but not for mine. I just want to make sure if this is something that can be recalled. Thank you

While driving on the freeway at 70-80mph the car begins to lose acceleration, stutters and faults all fault codes on the car. Car then begins to brake itself to a stop all while on a freeway at a high rate of speed. I have to pull over to the side of the freeway, crossing up to 5 lanes of high speed traffic all while my car is braking itself to a stop. I have narrowly missed 5 accidents in the 7 times this has occurred. Each time while in the left or carpool lanes of traffic while passing other vehicles at a high rate of speed. I have to bring the car to a complete stop on the side of the road, turn the car off to disengage the braking system, turn the car on, all fault codes remain, car stays in limp mode or safe mode, I limp to the dealer and drop it off. 2 Honda dealers in 2 different states can’t figure out what’s wrong with it. Replaced multiple replays and other components and I am now about $3800 in repairs and the car is not fixed. This has been happening since March when the first occurrence happened. Second and 3rd in Washington while visiting family in June and as of today, the 7th time occurred this morning while taking the car back to the dealer to have it looked at because it faulted on Saturday evening. Codes cleared when I started the car this morning and happened again as I was driving to the dealer. Each time the dealers have the car for a week. Say this fixed it, test drive it have no issues return it to me to have it happen within days of being returned. I’m terrified to drive the car at high speed even when I do get it back as “fix”🤞🏻. I feel like my issues and security is being constantly over looked by Honda. Arrowhead Honda in Arizona currently has the car for yet again more “repairs”.

My car has had a sticky steering wheel problem for over a year now. I’m at 75k miles, the problem started at least around 60k miles. The wheel feels heavy and I have to over correct due to that stickiness. I can’t drive straight when I am on the highway. I continuously have to correct to keep the wheel straight. It does not feel safe. Last year my battery died and changing the battery helped the sticky steering a little but only for a short time. I think the problem has something to do with the power steering.

All engine lights flashed while driving, check engine light remained on after all others went off, emission system warning keeps prompting attention, and car just slowed to only 8 mph as I was driving down the road. Available for inspection any day. I had my 7 month old child in the backseat and almost got slammed in the back while going down the road as my car slowed abruptly as I was driving. Nothing was wrong prior, and I took it to a service department when I went for my oil change, but it was going to be very costly to just hook up for diagnostic testing. Car ran at normal speed after this incident, but engine sounds louder and rougher and check engine light and warnings are still present.

The Electronic Power Steering is failing and causing the vehicle to swerve, get stuck in one direction, and sway into other lanes almost striking other vehicles. The vehicle is a huge safety concern on the road. I Myself have had to roughly pull my steering before crashing into another vehicle. At times, the vehicle looses traction while actively driving because of the steering becoming stiff and stuck. The vehicle has been brought into Honda, they confirmed the power steering rack is failing and will continue to diminish over time thus causing the vehicle to crash. Multiple other Hondas have been brought in for the same issue according to Honda and stated the steering rack part has no estimated time when the part would be in the shop. I was told it could take anywhere from a week to months before Honda receives the necessary part. There are no warning lights appearing but Honda did confirm the steering rack is failing more and more and there’s nothing they can do for it yet. I’m not sure how people are supposed to drive a car that is bound to crash into someone? The part itself is no where to be found easily, so do Honda owners pray they do not crash?

I’ve had this car for about 1 year now. On the 4th month of having the vehicle I got the battery replaced by the dealer for free. Now here we are a year later and my car is having the same issue. When I go to crank it, it stutters as if it doesn’t want to turn on than turns on. I went to autozone and they said battery needs to be changed again. Which makes no sense because never in my life have I had to change a battery 2x in year & it’s practically still a new vehicle. I started to investigate and when I go in my trunk That I barely use. I have a little bucket with things I keep in it. The bucket was filled with water as if it was leaking from the tail light area. So my trunk is soaked. I’ve noticed before a little moisture back there but I thought nothing of it. I wonder if others are having the same issue or they may not have noticed yet. The vehicle getting wet in the inside can become a very big electrical & rust issue. Which is very unsafe, can lead to things like a fire or even mildew which can get you sick breathing in it. I feel this matter should be addressed and investigated immediately! For not only the safety of my self but the other civic drivers !

2016 Honda Civic sport- push start ignition can turn engine power off when parking without the operator knowing, or receiving sufficient warning that the automatic transmition is still in drive or neutral. Yes, the vehicle is available for inspection. Yesterday, my husband parked our 2016 Civic after a trip to the store. He was unaware that the had not placed the vehicle in park, as he was able to turn off engine and exit the car without sufficient safety warning. He took an item from the trunk, closed it, walked down the street and into the house. A few minutes later our neighbor got an alert on her security camera. Our unoccupied car is seen in the video rolling forward, down the hill, before crashing into shrubs and trees at bottom. When we got up to the car, my husband unlocked it and climbed in through passenger seat, to find it was still in drive, but was not running.This could have seriously injured or killed a child or anyone else if they had been standing in its path.Thankfully, it didn't roll into a child or one of our neighbors. No one was injured, though they certainly could have been. The car does have damage, but that can be fixed. We have not taken it to the dealer yet, but I am contacting them now. We have not contacted our insurance company yet. But we will be submitting the photos and videos with the claim. My husband said there was not a warning light on the dash and he did not observe any indication that the car was still in gear or he would not have gotten out of the car. The car gives a warning light if you leave your lights on, when you are approaching a service interval, low fuel or change in tire pressure, low battery life, and a dozen other things. He has had the car for more than five years so he is very familiar with it. It is serviced on time, and our mechanic does annual inspections every year. We will test it again tonight to see if we can duplicate it, but with a driver inside to apply the break if it rolls.

ALSO, WHEN GETTING INTO CAR (UNLOCKING DOORS) AND THEN DRIVING AWAY, AS THE DOOR AUTO-LOCK THE ACTUATOR IS ENGAGED AND IT MAKES A LOUD NOISE. SOUND ONLY HAPPENS WHEN THE ACTUATOR IS ENGAGED. WE HAVE VERIFIED THAT NOTHING IS DRAINING THE BATTERY AND HAVE HAD THE BATTERY TESTED TWICE. THE BATTERY MUST NOT BE THE PROBLEM BUT THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM IS MESSING UP SO MUCH THAT WE ARE SCARED TO DRIVE IT. INSTEAD, ALL SYSTEMS WARNING LIGHTS CAME ON: POWER STEERING, PARKING BRAKE, BRAKE FAILURE, TPMS, TRACTION CONTROL SYSTEM, HILL ASSIST SYSTEM, ABS SYSTEM, ETC. ALL THESE WARNINGS KEPT CYCLING THROUGH ON THE DASHBOARD WHEN I TRIED TO START CAR. TOW COMPANY CAME AND JUMP STARTED BATTERY JUST TO SEE IF THAT WOULD START CAR. IT DID! OVER 12 DIFFERENT TIMES IN THE PAST 6 MONTHS SINCE I PURCHASED THE CAR IT HAS HAD SERIOUS ELECTRICAL ISSUES RANGING FROM LOCKING ITSELF WITH THE KEYLESS FOB INSIDE THE VEHICLE DURING A SNOW STORM, ALL WINDOWS INCLUDING MOON ROOF ROLLING COMPLETELY DOWN DURING A RAINSTORM WHEN PARKED OR IN MOTION. WHEN PARKED, THE ALARM BLARING NON STOP FOR HOURS AND THE BATTERY DYING COMPLETELY WITHOUT WARNING OR DRAINAGE ON MY PART OF ANY KIND. ALL SYSTEMS ON THE CAR SHUT DOWN COMPLETELY AFTER LOSS OF POWER INCLUDING THE BRAKING SYSTEM AND YOU CAN DIVE IT THAT WAY. IT BRAKES HARD ON ITS OWN ON THE FREEWAY. THERE IS A USB PORT IN THE CENTER CONSOLE RIGHT NEXT TO CUP HOLDER THAT CAN GET WET IF YOU HAVE A DRINK IN THERE. I'VE HAD MY CAR FOR LESS THAN A YEAR AND ON THREE SEPARATE OCCASIONS IT HAS FAILED TO START. THE FIRST TIME IT HAPPENED, I DID A GOOGLE SEARCH AND SAW THAT THIS WAS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THE CAR. I FOUND A YOUTUBE VIDEO THAT GAVE INSTRUCTIONS ON A POSSIBLE REMEDY -- WHICH INCLUDED GOING UNDER THE HOOD OF THE CAR AND FINAGLING WITH THE BATTERY, ETC. MY HUSBAND TRIED THIS REMEDY AND ONCE MY CAR STARTED, I IMMEDIATELY TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP. AT THE DEALERSHIP I WAS TOLD THAT MY BATTERY WAS DEAD; THEY REPLACED THE BATTERY. MONTHS LATER, WITH MY NEW BATTERY, THIS HAPPENED AGAIN. MY HUSBAND TRIED THE REMEDY AGAIN BUT WHEN I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP I TOLD HIM THAT THEY SHOULD LOOK FURTHER INTO THIS ISSUE BECAUSE IT IS NOT JUST THE BATTERY. TO ME, IT WAS SOME KIND OF ELECTRICAL GLITCH. THE DEALERSHIP INFORMED ME THAT BECAUSE THEY COULD NOT REPLICATE THE PROBLEM OF THE 'NO-START', THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO. AT 6 MONTHS PREGNANT I TOLD THEM THAT I WAS BEING LEFT IN A VULNERABLE POSITION WITH A VERY UNRELIABLE VEHICLE. I TOLD THEM THAT A GOOGLE SEARCH WOULD SHOW THAT THIS WAS HAPPENING WITH MANY HONDA CIVICS AND THAT THIS MUST BE A KNOWN ISSUE. THEY SAID THEY WOULD HAVE A HONDA REPRESENTATIVE CONTACT ME AND THAT NEVER HAPPENED. I TOLD MYSELF THAT IF THIS HAPPENED AGAIN, I WOULD DO NOTHING MYSELF. I WOULD GET MY CAR TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP. WELL, OF COURSE, IT HAS HAPPENED AGAIN AT 9 MONTHS PREGNANT. I HAD MY CAR TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP BECAUSE IT AGAIN HAS NOT STARTED. THE CAR REMAINS IN ACCESSORY MODE AND THE BRAKES AND SHIFT GEAR IS LOCKED. I TRULY THINK I HAVE A LEMON VEHICLE BECAUSE THIS COMPANY IS REFUSING TO LOOK FURTHER INTO THIS ISSUE. THEY CLAIM THEY CHECKED THE BRAKES AND EVERYTHING WAS FIND. I HAD A MAINTENANCE CHECK AND AN OIL CHECK. A MONTH IN HALF LATER I EXPERIENCE THE PROBLEM WITH THE BRAKES I WAS COMPLAINING ABOUT IN SEPTEMBER. ON 11/14/19 I DROVE MY CAR TO A LOCATION NO PROBLEMS. I PARKED THE CAR . WHEN I WENT BACK TO TURN ON THE CAR THAT'S WHEN THE BRAKE LIGHTS CAME ON SAYING ELECTRICAL BRAKE PROBLEM. I READ THEY HAD A RECALL ON THE ELECTRICAL BRAKE SYSTEM. I WONDER DID THIS CAR EVER GOT FIXED FROM THE RECALL. TURNED MY CAR ON AND THE BRAKE SYSTEM LIGHT BEGIN FLASHING STATING ELECTRIC PARKING BRAKE PROBLEM. THE RED LIGHT CONTINUED BLINKING. THE VEHICLE EXPERIENCED AN INTERMITTENT BUT SUDDEN AND COMPLETE LOSS OF BRAKING POWER WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY MOVING AT AROUND 40MPH. THE CAR DEALERSHIP WAS ABLE PIN THE ISSUE TO AN ELECTRICAL CIRCUIT FAILURE IN THE BRAKE CONTROL UNIT (HONDA ERROR CODES V300-49 AND V3003-68) AND RECOMMENDED CHANGING THE VSA MODULATOR UNIT. REGULAR SCHEDULED MAINTENANCE DONE ON THE VEHICLE JUST A MONTH PRIOR TO THE INCIDENT AT THE SAME DEALERSHIP INDICATED NO OBSERVED ISSUES WITH BRAKING. I WOULD LOCK THE CAR AND ALL WINDOWS WOULD BE UP WHEN LEAVING THE CAR BUT I'D RETURN TO ALL WINDOWS DOWN AND THE SUNROOF OPEN! THIS HAPPENED TWICE WITHIN THE FIRST TWO YEARS OF OWNING THE CAR! LAST BUT CERTAINLY NOT LEAST IS THE BATTERY ISSUE. THE BATTERY WON'T LAST 10 MONTHS WITHOUT ISSUES! IF YOU TRY TO CHARGE YOUR CAR IN ACCESSORY MODE, THE CAR BATTERY WILL DIE AND YOU WILL NEED A JUMP. IT HAS LOST ALL FUNCTIONING. THE 2ND IS THE AIR COMPRESSOR. IT HAS A LEAK AND APPARENTLY THIS IS AN ISSUE WITH A LOT OF THE TOURINGS. PEOPLE HAVE REPLACED THEM AND HAD THE SAME ISSUES. THE DISPLAYS HAVE HAD PROBLEMS BOTH IN DRIVE MODES AND PARKED. I HAVE GOOGLED ON HOW TO FIX THOSE ISSUES AND WE HAVE DISCONNECTED THE BATTERY TO DO THE SAME. UPON HIS INSPECTION OF THE ENGINE HE ONLY LOOKED AT WIRES WITH PREDETERMINATION THAT THE CAUSE OF THE ISSUES WAS WIRING. THIS APPEARS TO BE A COMMON COMPLIANT AMONG THE HONDA COMMUNITY AND LAW SUITS HAVE BEEN FILED, ONLY TO BE DISMISSED DUE TO TECHNICALITIES OF PROBABLE CAUSE. THE DAMAGE ENDANGERS THE CONSUMER DRIVING BECAUSE THE CAR STALLS AND THE DRIVER LOSES THE ABILITY TO STEER BECAUSE OF THE LOSS OF POWER STEERING AND FUNCTION. BECAUSE THESE ARE SHORTS OCCURRING IN THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM THEY TEND TO CLEAR UP IN BETWEEN DRIVES MAKING THE DRIVER BELIEVE THE CAR IS FUNCTIONAL, BUT THIS ONLY RISES THE RISK TO INJURY BY ACCIDENT AND OR EVEN DEATH.

I PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE FROM A HONDA DEALERSHIP VANCOUVER, WA IN 2016. RECENTLY, THE CAR ALARM WOULD GO OFF RANDOMLY THROUGHOUT THE NIGHT. I TOOK THE VEHICLE INTO THE DEALERSHIP AND THE BATTERY WAS CHECKED AND REPLACED. THIS DID NOT SOLVE THE ISSUE. I WENT IN AGAIN TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY DID A DIAGNOSTIC CHECK OF ELECTRONIC SYSTEM AND FOUND SECURITY CODES RELATING TO HOOD SWITCH IN THE SECURITY HISTORY. THEY SUGGESTED TO REPLACE THE HOOD LATCH/SWITCH ASSEMBLY AND RECHECK. ANOTHER PERSON I SPOKE WITH, THAT HAD THE SAME ISSUE, CLAIMED THAT REPLACING THE HOOD LATCH ASSEMBLY WAS UNSUCCESSFUL. I ASKED ABOUT MANUFACTURER'S WARRANTY SINCE THIS ITEM ISN'T COVERED BY DEALERSHIP WARRANTY OF 3 YRS/36K MILES. THE DEFECT IS FROM A PART THAT IS CAUSED BY AN ELECTRICAL ISSUE AND FALLS UNDER MANUFACTURING ERROR AND NOT A WEARABLE PART THAT HAS ANYTHING TO DO WITH WARRANTY OR SOMETHING THAT FATIGUES OVER TIME. I WROTE HONDA REGARDING THIS. IN THE MEANTIME, I CANNOT USE MY SECURITY SYSTEM, THAT I PAID FOR ON THE VEHICLE, DUE TO IT POSSIBLY DRAINING MY NEW BATTERY. HONDA (REGIONAL SERVICE MANAGER) STATED, OVER THE PHONE, THAT THEY WOULD NOT COVER THE COST OF REPLACEMENT AND THAT IT FALLS UNDER THEIR WARRANTY OF PARTS. THIS ISSUE IS HAZARDOUS BECAUSE THE SENSOR FOR THE CAR ALARM TRIPS ITSELF ELECTRONICALLY WHEN THE HOOD IS SHUT. THIS COULD POSSIBLY CAUSE A FIRE AND/OR GREATER DAMAGE TO THE VEHICLE OR OTHERS. THEY REPLACED ONCE AND THEN "UPDATED" THE INFOTAINMENT SYSTEM ONCE BECAUSE OF VERY DISRUPTIVE THINGS THAT HAPPEN ON THE SCREEN WHILE DRIVING. ONCE (THIS WAS PARKED) IT TOTALLY LOCKED UP MY IPHONE SO THAT I COULD NOT USE IT EVEN AFTER I SHUT THE CAR OFF (I WAS PARKED AND HAD TURNED THE CAR ON ) AND REBOOTED MY PHONE! ONCE I GOT LOCKED OUT OF MY CAR AFTER OPENING THE TRUNK AND CLOSING IT...MY FOB WOULD NOT WORK AND WHEN I USED THE KEY, IT SET OFF THE ALARM, FLASHED THE LIGHTS AND RESET ALL MY PERSONAL SETTINGS. SOMETIMES THE STEERING WHEEL RADIO CONTROLS LOCK UP AND DON'T WORK. MANY TIMES THE RADIO SCREEN GOES BLACK WHEN I AM DRIVING AND NOT TOUCHING IT. ONE TIME IT STARTED BEEPING AND WOULD NOT STOP....VERY DANGEROUS AS I TRY TO DRIVE WITH THE BEEPING. I HAVE TO SPEND TOO MUCH TIME TRYING TO GET THE CAR SYSTEMS TO WORK WHILE DRIVING THAT THIS IS AS DANGEROUS AS CAN BE. THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM OF THIS CAR IS A LEMON...AND HAS BEEN FROM THE START. THEY ALSO WANTED TO SELL ME SPICY RODENT TAPE FOR $48, THIS IS A SCAM, HONDA NEEDS TO FIX THIS PROBLEM, THEY WILL BE LOSING LOYAL CUSTOMERS. APPARENTLY THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE AS THE DEALERSHIP TOLD ME THAT THIS HAS HAPPENED MULTIPLE TIMES TO CARS BROUGHT IN. THIS IS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRENTY ALTHOUGH IT SEEMS TO BE A MANUFACTURING ISSUE. SO NOT ONLY DID I LOSE POWER STEERING WHILE DRIVING WHICH IS A SEVERE SAFETY CONCERN ESPECIALLY WHILE DRIVING MY 6 MONTH OLD CHILD IN THE VEHICLE, BUT ITS MY RESPONSIBILITY TO FOOT THE $240 BILL TO REPAIR THE DAMAGE. ON TWO OCCASIONS, MY CIVIC HAS "LOCKED UP". UPON STARTING THE VEHICLE, ALL OF THE WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATE AND THE CAR WON'T GO INTO GEAR. WHEN DRIVING THE CAR, ALL OF THE WARNING LIGHTS WERE STILL ON AND THE STEERING WHEEL WAS DIFFICULT TO MOVE, THE VEHICLE WAS VERY HARD TO MANEUVER, THE BRAKES DID NOT WORK WELL, AND THE PROBLEM PERSISTED. I EVENTUALLY DISCONNECTED THE BATTERY AND "RESET" THE COMPUTER THAT WAY. THE PROBLEM WENT AWAY FOR A FEW MONTHS, THEN CAME BACK AGAIN SAME EXACT WAY. THE NEXT TIME, I DID THE SAME THING, DISCONNECTED THE BATTERY AND IT RESET. I DO NOT KNOW IF THIS PROBLEM IS WITH THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM, TRANSMISSION, BRAKING, OR WHATEVER. ALL I KNOW IS IT WAS VERY DANGEROUS TO DRIVE AFTER I WAS FINALLY ABLE TO ENGAGE THE TRANSMISSION. ONE OTHER POINT TO MAKE, I ALREADY HAD THE "PARKING BRAKE RECALL" SOFTWARE UPDATE COMPLETED BY HONDA. THE DEALERSHIP SAID THEY DID NOT HAVE A RECALL FOR THIS TYPE OF PROBLEM AND ALL THEY COULD DO WOULD BE RESTART THE CAR UNTIL THEY WERE ABLE TO RECREATE THE PROBLEM. I DID NO THINK THIS WAS A GOOD USE OF TIME (THEIRS OR MINE) SO I AM HOPING FOR A RECALL SOON!

THEY'LL RUN THE DIAGNOSTIC AND TELL ME THEY CAN'T FIND ANYTHING WRONG BECAUSE THEY CAN'T RECREATE THE PROBLEM. MEANWHILE I'LL BE OUT $100 AND MY TIME. PURCHASED A NEW 2016 CIVIC TOURING IN MAY 2016. WITHIN A COUPLE OF WEEKS I WAS HAVING SMALL ELECTRICAL ISSUES SUCH AS SCREENS GOING BLACK, REBOOTING, AND STEREO NOT WORKING. I WOULD GET A FAILURE WARNING ON THE DASH ONCE IN AWHILE (DIFFERENT EACH TIME). CAR FAILED TO START ON JULY 26TH 2016. ALL SCREENS WERE FLASHING ERROR MESSAGES. CAR WOULD NOT START. I CALLED THE DEALER AND HAD THE CAR TOWED. DEALER CLAIMED THEY HAVE NEVER SEEM THIS PROBLEM. THEY KEPT THE CAR FOR A COUPLE OF DAYS AND STATED THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG, AND THEY COULDN'T REPLICATE THE PROBLEM. I WOULD CONTINUE TO HAVE THE SAME SMALL PROBLEMS WITH THE CAR EVERY SO OFTEN. UNTIL, THE CAR SLAMMED ON THE BRAKES COMING TO A COMPLETE STOP BY ITSELF AND COMPUTER TOOK 100% CONTROL OF THE CAR. I COULDN'T STEER, ACCELERATE, OR CONTROL THE CAR AT ALL. I NEARLY GOT REAR ENDED IN AN INTERSECTION. THERE WAS NOT A CAR DIRECTLY IN FRONT OF ME THAT WOULD HAVE CAUSED THE COLLISION AVOIDANCE TO BRAKE IN ORDER TO AVOID AN ACCIDENT. AFTER THE CAR CAME TO A COMPLETE STOP I REGAINED CONTROL AGAIN AND THE CAR OPERATED NORMAL. SOON AFTER, WHILE ATTEMPTING TO START THE CAR I RECEIVED THE ALL THE ERROR CODES AGAIN AND IT THE CAR WOULDN'T START. I AGAIN CALLED THE DEALER AND HAD IT TOWED. DEALER CANNOT TELL ME WHY THE CAR SELF BRAKED AND CANNOT REPLICATE IT. I HAVE AN OPEN CASE# WITH HONDA OF AMERICA. I HAVE TOLD BOTH THE DEALERSHIP AND HONDA OF AMERICA THE CAR IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE. MY WIFE AND DAUGHTER ARE BOTH SCARED FOR THEIR SAFETY TO DRIVE IT. NO ONE FROM MY FAMILY INCLUDING MYSELF WILL BE DRIVING THE CAR EVER AGAIN, NOR CAN I SELL IT TO SOMEONE ELSE. AS SYSTEM RESET, LARGE "H" WAS DISPLAYED FOR A PERIOD AND THEN INSTRUMENTATION WAS RESTORED. QUERIED SERVICE REP AT THE DEALERSHIP WHO SAID IT WASN'T A KNOWN ISSUE. OCCURRED ABOUT MAR 16. HASN'T REOCCURRED YET.

CERTAIN HONDA CIVIC'S HAVE APPLE'S CARPLAY INSTALLED, THROUGH THE IOS IPHONE MOBILE PHONE PLATFORM. WHEN ENABLED, OR PLUGGED INTO THE CAR, NAVIGATION SUPPORT PROVIDED BY APPLE'S MAPS APPLICATION GOES INTO 'DAY MODE' WHILE AT NIGHT. THIS CREATES A HUGE AMOUNT OF BRIGHTNESS IN THE CAR AND BLINDS THE DRIVER WITH BRIGHTNESS. THERE IS NO FIX FOR THIS PROBLEM AND I CAN EASILY SEE HOW ACCIDENTS CAN BE TRIGGERED DUE TO BLINDING INTERIOR LIGHT DUE TO THE APPLE MAPS (THROUGH CARPLAY) NOT WORKING PROPERLY. THIS IS CLEARLY AN ERROR, OR POOR DESIGN BY APPLE/HONDA. I BELIEVE THAT CARPLAY'S NAVIGATION FUNCTION IS A DANGER TO THE AMERICAN PUBLIC BECAUSE HAVING HUGE AMOUNTS OF SUDDEN BRIGHTNESS CAUSES DISTRACTION AND MAJOR PROBLEMS WITH VISION.

BOUGHT THE CAR IN MID FEBRUARY AND IT BEGAN TO READ "BRAKE SYSTEM PROBLEM" ONCE THE CAR WAS TURNED ON AND STATIONARY A FEW WEEKS AFTER. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP IN MARCH AND THEY "CLEARED" THE CODES AND TEST DROVE IT. IN APRIL, THE SAME ERROR APPEARED BUT NOW WITH MORE ERRORS SUCH AS "TIRE PRESSURE LOW, BRAKE SYSTEM PROBLEM, CHARGING SYSTEM PROBLEM AND ANTI LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM PROBLEM." I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP ONCE AGAIN AND THEY REPLACED THE "ABS MODULATOR" AND "CLEARED" THE CODES. ONCE AGAIN A MONTH LATER (JUNE), THE SAME ERRORS ARE APPEARING.

VEHICLE HAS BEEN IN THE SERVICE SHOP 5 TIMES FOR "BRAKE SYSTEM FAILURE", "ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM FAILURE", "TIRE PRESSURE MONITOR SYSTEM FAILURE", "TIRE PRESSURE LOW", AND "CHARGING SYSTEM FAILURE" WITH NO RESOLVE BY THE DEALERSHIP. THESE MESSAGES WERE ALL ON THE RADIO DISPLAY PRIOR TO TODAY TO WHICH THE DEALERSHIP SAID THEY ARE FALSE FLAGS. I AM NOT SURE HOW A "BRAKE SYSTEM FAILURE" ANYWHERE ON A DASH IS A FALSE FLAG. THESE MESSAGES GENERALLY OCCURRED UPON STARTUP BUT MANY TIMES WHILE DRIVING. LAST NIGHT, ERROR MESSAGES APPEARED IN THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER AND THE VEHICLE REFUSED TO START. THERE ARE THREE PROBLEMS I WANT TO COMPLAIN: 1) INFORMATION SCREEN FLICKERS FOR 10 MINUTES AFTER STARTING THE ENGINE. I SENT IT TO DEALER SHOP, BUT THEY SAID THAT THEY NEVER HEARD OF SUCH A PROBLEM, AND HAD NO SOLUTION. THE PROBLEM HAPPENED AT LEAST THREE TIMES PER WEEK IN THE PAST TWO MONTHS. 2) INFORMATION SCREEN SHOWS SIX DIFFERENT WARNING MESSAGES AFTER STARTING THE ENGINE, INCLUDING ABS FAILURE, VSA FAILURE, LOW BATTERY LEVEL, COLLISION MITIGATION FAILURE, ADAPTIVE CRUISE CONTROL FAILURE ETC. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER, THE REASON THEY TOLD ME IS THAT THEY HAD ONE OF MY TIRES REPLACED ONE WEEK BEFORE AND TPMS HAD NOT BEEN RESET CORRECTLY. HOWEVER, WHY IT TOOK TWO WEEKS FOR THE SYSTEM TO GIVE THE WARNING MESSAGES INSTEAD OF RIGHT AFTER TIRE GOT CHANGED? 3) TPMS FAILED TO DETECT FLAT TIRE. I WAS DRIVING A CAR WITH ONE FLAT TIRE FOR 1 MILE, AND THE TPMS EVEN FAILED TO DETECT THE FLAT TIRE.

I CRANKED UP MY BRAND NEW HONDA AND A EMISSIONS SYSTEM ERROR DISPLAYED. I CONTACTED THE DEALER AND DROVE IT TO THEM. IN RETROSPECT THAT WAS PROBABLY A BAD IDEA. MY ENTIRE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM COULD HAVE GLITCHED AND I COULD HAVE BEEN HURT. RODENTS ATE MY WIRING HARNESS THIS WEEKEND. AS PER THE SERVICE TECH AT MY LOCAL HONDA DEALERSHIP THE WIRING HARNESS AND SURROUNDING PIECES ARE MADE FROM A SOYBEAN DERIVATIVE. THEY ARE ATTRACTED TO IT BECAUSE ESSENTIALLY IT'S A PROTEIN PACK ON TIRES. THIS IS MY 7TH HONDA (PRELUDE SI, CIVIC SI, ACCORD EX, CIVIC DX, HONDA ATV, HONDA ATV) AND I'VE NEVER HAD ANY CRITTER EAT ANYTHING HONDA RELATED BEFORE. I STILL PARK IN THE SAME PLACE. NOTHING HAS CHANGED. MY ANGST IS THAT HONDA IS UNABLE TO PROVIDE PARTS NOT MAD FROM SOYBEANS. IF MY NEW HONDA HAD BEEN MANUFACTURED WITH SOMETHING LESS ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY IS IS HIGHLY PROBABLE THIS LOSS WOULD NOT HAVE OCCURRED. THE THING THAT FRUSTRATES ME THE MOST IS THAT HONDA'S BRAND OF RODENT DETERRENT TAPE IS NOT PART OF ANY DEALER OPTION PACKAGE. THEREFORE I WASN'T OFFERED A CHANCE TO BUY THE $30 ROLL OF RODENT TAPE FROM THE HONDA PARTS DEPARTMENT. NOW I'M LOOKING AT OVER $1000 IN DAMAGE THAT COULD HAVE BEEN PREVENTED BY TAPE AND HONDA CANNOT GUARANTEE THAT THE WAY THEY REPAIR IT WILL NOT PREVENT IT FROM OCCURRING AGAIN. I'VE ONLY OWNED THE CALL FOR 3 MONTHS. I'M EXTREMELY CONCERNED IT COULD HAPPEN AGAIN AND THAT WOULD BE ANOTHER $1000 REPAIR. DOES HONDA TRULY BELIEVE THAT USING THESE PARTS IS OKAY?
